fuuuuck yes fantastic news irt pleasure islands infamously horrific moby dick animatronic (peep below)

for the longest time, people passed around rumors that he’d long since been demolished, sitting at the bottom of his lake as nothing more than a metal skeleton attached to a set of tracks

but this dude bought a 1.5k underwater drone, prodded around for a while, and actually FOUND Moby. mostly intact!! i just wish we could see him in his full glory. one can only hope this’ll encourage some animatronic conservationists to make their way over to Massachusetts for an eventual retrieval (if not, broader photographs)

HOO BOY! Just like GloMas, we went from 0 to 1000 REAL QUICK! And I can't believe I'm saying this...but this place is somehow WORSE than the flowers that sap away your magic...

So this shows just how fast technology progressed in the last 20 years! So as a kid/when it first opened, this place was the coolest thing ever and was ground breaking technology. However, as a teen in 2012, this was a portal into a 90s/early 2000's time capsule! It was charming and amazing in such a different way! I miss it every day. From the build and ride your own virtual rollercoaster (Cyberspace Mountain), tons of arcade games, make your own toy thing, this bumper cars that yeet balls at other cars themed to Buzz Lightyear ride thing, 'virtual' jungle cruise(where you are 'paddling' in a blow up river and it corresponds to the screen/your actions), Pirates of the Caribbean cannon blaster thing, to a virtual reality Aladdin carpet ride game, and so much more! And like I said, depending on when you went, it was either a technological marvel, or a nostalgic blast from the past that had you appreciate how far tech had gone!

Fun fact: Guillermo del Toro wasn’t the first one to turn Pinocchio’s Pleasure Island/Land of Toys into a fascist training ground. Or even the first to depict the story of Pinocchio as a fascist allegory.

In 2008, a comic book was released in France by Winshluss, a famous BD maker (BD = bande dessinée = comic book). A comic book called “Pinocchio”. And in this “silent comic book” where no word is pronounced, the story of Pinocchio becomes a bizarre, surrealistic, both hilarious and disturbing parody. 

Just so you get the basics: in Winshluss’ version, Pinocchio is not a little wooden boy brought to life by magic, but a child-shaped robot supposed to be the ultimate war-machine for an ongoing war, a sort of “final solution” equivalent to the atomic bomb. But upon being created, this robot-Pinocchio, innocent and oblivious to his own deadly powers, accidentally kills Gepetto’s wife, destroys his house and then wanders throughout the world as Jiminy decides to live inside the robot’s metallic skull - not a Jiminy Cricket mind you, but a Jiminy Cockroach... And the entire tale is rewritten like that, from the sea monster becoming an irradiated fish that mutated to grotesque proportions, to Stromboli now being a factory-owner using child labor. 

This Pinocchio is heavily “dedicated” and inspired by the horrors and socio-political events of the 20th century, and in the Land of Toys we don’t have a Coachman luring kids with pleasures, but a disturbing clown waiting under a circus tent to have an audience for his big show... and then you have this scene:

I think you can see on your own the political imagery behind it. It is even more jarring when you actually see that the children here are not turned into donkeys, but rather into wolves - and they are not shipped to become beasts of burdens, but rather sent by the clown into the war... the same war Pinocchio was created for. 

Yeah, Winshluss’ Pinocchio is really something.

Disney Descendants : Fern Coachman

The Adult VK Daughter Of The Coachman From Pinocchio 1940 and Childhood BFF Of Alice From Alice in Wonderland 1951 before Auradon was Founded . Later Gains 2 younger siblings who were born on the isle of the lost named , Warren and Gardena who were tragically murdered by their father .

Fern, Daughter of The Coachman Description - Hates her dad. Works for Hades. BFFs with Alice. Crush on Panic. Awkward when dealing with people who know her dad. Just wants to feel okay. Good with tools and working with her hands. Super curious and loves to read.

Fern's backstory -Fern grew up with the Coachman. To this day she has no idea what the situation was with her mother and she saw him go from a loser to a nightmare and that scares her really bad. She’s not sure he’s still human and the evil fairy scares her more than anyone. For a long time he made her help him lure people in - children trust other children - and kept her away from them once they got to pleasure island. She finally couldn't stand it anymore and ran away. She survived on her own for a while and promised whoever was listening she'd serve them forever if they'd help her. Luckily for her, Hades was listening.

Au in which you went to Pleasure Island (from Disney's Pinocchio) with Wally and escaped in the nick of time, forever sported with long, brown donkey ears and a tail.

Headcannons:

Those long ears certainly does not take away from Wally's beauty. I swear to Henson that puppet boy looks handsome, no matter what happens to him. In fact, he kinda likes how he can hear all the gossip of the Neighborhood, thanks to these new ears (donkey ears can hear at a very wide range)

You learn to both laugh at how you bray like a donkey when you laugh. You keep yourself from laughing in public, though, unless it's around friends.

You learned to slowly dare to walk outside the Neighborhood, minus hats. Took a longer time for you to do it, but Wally ended up not caring about his ears (a hat can hurt after too long, after all).

You discovered a magic spot that makes Wally melt when you scratch it (the very base of his ear). He freezes, pupils shrinking then he just goes limp like a rag doll. Wasn't long before he used it against you as well (You: (melting) No fair....🥴) And if you scratch each other's both ears, at the base, all at once, forget it...You're out of it for the whole evening...

Wally's tail tend to wrap around himself when he's angry. And yours tend to whip the air.

I honestly thought that Disney Knowledge Yuu would be “okay, it’s just a tale here, a very REAL one but, it can’t be that bad. Leona is here, Trey too and even Vil! They are really responsible and will make us go back at a reasonable time! Plus, they are really powerful! There is nothing to worry about!”

Also, do you think there is a figure like the coachman? The guy that employed Guidel and John to lure children into pleasure island? Maybe he’s the guy that transforms the people into donkeys

Yep, that's about right XD

And while that would be cool, I doubt we're getting anyone else new, since the tradition has always been one new guest per event, with Fellow and Giddel slightly breaking it by being considered a unit.

Fun fact though, I actually made my OWN TWST Coachman OC a while back for a roleplaying server :3

His name is Carlo Omino (a combination of the author of Pinocchio, Carlo Collodi, and the Coachman's original Italian name, Omino di Burro). He runs a similar trafficking ring, except it hides in plain sight in a regular theme park in Port O'Bliss, and it involves animal transformation (any kind of animal, not just donkey) AND the capturing and selling of rare magical creatures and species. The animal transformations are mostly via potion created by sisters TWST Yzma and Kronk (named Eartha (after her VA) and Risu (Japanese for squirrel))

Carlo's also Rollo's abusive father in this universe but that's not important-
