Hopefully something to keep your mind, what are your favorite moments from Better Call Saul? I loved how after season 3 ends you can almost instantly see by the next episode what makes BrBa era Saul tick and how Jimmy became him when he seemed to be a down to earth guy with a number of ethical lines he wouldn't cross at the start of the series, which only gets further compounded by the season 6 midseason finale, which has one of my favorite fictional deaths and my favorite use of a character saying "I love you" ever

My friend i must say that i am a fake fan. I've watched season 1 and managed to snag this url on a whim and am not letting go. I also do not remember season 1. I'm so sorry 😔

Every time the zionist project cruelly strikes Palestina I worry for Nedaa and her elderly parents. [Vetted here and here (No. 107)]

She doesn't post often and that also worries me too. Could be because she's at capacity trying to make sure her elderly parents are alright, or because there's a significant lack of e-sims available to Gazans. And that's just scratching the surface of the horrors.

Could you imagine losing your home, being sent on a death march to a zone you think is safe but ends up being bombed, and then taking your grandparents along with you while their medical needs go unmet?

But imagining isn't enough to help the people of Gaza. It's why they make GoFundMes and Tumblr blogs and why the present Palestinians on Tumblr have gone to such great lengths to vet these fundraisers.

All of this has been done to give them a chance of surviving the bombardment and war crimes and yet they STILL have trouble gaining traction.

So they'll get picked up by someone who wants to spotlight them. The post will have an eye catching graphic or some soft pastel art of the Palestinian they're signal boosting. But all I have are my words, and there are only so many ways I can say that the situation is dire. Nedaa and her elderly parents need money, and that the funds she so desperately needs aren't gonna come from anywhere else.

@pokeblader3 all fiction is fine to make. It's fiction. It cannot harm you or anyone else. It can be debated and criticized and confronted, it can be checked for accuracy if it's making real world claims, but at the end of the day it is a pretend made up story. Yes, even RPF. If I write a story about Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman fucking, they are not harmed. They don't even know. If someone draws their attention to said fic and makes them know, that person is harassing those celebrities. Harassment and stalking of celebrities is a real problem with real impacts on real humans, because they are actions taken in the real world. Words on a page/screen are words.

does hilda have good storytelling? it didn't really seem like my kinda show bc I didn't think it'd have strong writing as main boon to it, but neither did steven universe before i watched it and i ended up loving that for its occasional really strong emotional episode along with overarching storylines often going on in the background

season 1′s storytelling is a lot more simple and kid-aimed, i think it’s really more about establishing the world and the characters, but stick around for season 2 because i feel the storytelling there is AMAZING and a lot of those episodes are living rent-free in my brain

Hi you draw the ATLA characters as adults in a way that they still look visually like the same characters we saw in ATLA just older, which is really hard to pull off! I felt that even the adult designs from LoK looked a little too generic to be the very recognizable designs of the Gaang, you're really good at drawing them :)

micaiah's healing powers were cool in concept but they never appeared in story cutscenes past P1 and sacrifice was practically useless in gameplay(especially when she got staves on promotion), I really feel like her branded powers and heritage could have been conceptualized better for her

i have alot of opinions about how the game treats the branded narratives too so i agree with what you said!

What are some more of your takes on improving/fixing Heroes of Olympus? Similarly to aging up Hazel and making better antagonists than Octavian Gaea and the Gigantes?

I hesitated to answer this because of how much hate the last post I made about this routinely gets me, but fuck it: 

1) I honestly don’t think Percy and Annabeth should have been part of the seven. I think Rick should have waited a few years in between the series’s, set Heroes of Olympus a few years in the future, and let Percy and Annabeth just be cameos. 

2) I’ve made this post before, but if Percy and Annabeth are going to be there, Clarisse should have played more of a role in the story as well. She should have had a role similar to Reyna’s where she wasn’t part of the seven, but she was one of the camp leaders. This would have worked to emphasize the bifurcation of the gods by having Clarisse side-by-side with Frank, as well as the bifurcation of the camps, with two war-god kids on each side. 

3) There never should have been serious conflict between the two camps as long as there was some major existential threat. Like, neither of the camps were pro-Gaea, so why were they fighting? It was just another conflict without an antagonist. 

4) While I do appreciate that this series had a totally different structure and style than PJO, I think it did lack a Luke-style villain. It had it’s big bad with Gaea, but we didn’t have that antagonist that we really cared about. That duel villain structure works so well It worked in PJO. We had the guy we had to defeat (Kronos) and then we had the guy who’s motivations, humanity, and potential for good we actually cared about. You could argue it was suppose to be Octavian, but that just fell flat. 

5) Drew shouldn’t have been such a flat character. It was misogynistic and racist, on top of just being flat out lazy writing. It would have been really interesting to show Silena as having a kind of ambiguous legacy at camp. Nuance around the effects of the first war would have been a really neat detail that could have fleshed out what camp was like after those events. 

It seems like The Trials of Apollo gets some of this treatment. I think Rick did find more footing in that series in terms of how he wanted to continue to explore the world, which is why I wish he’d taken the time in between PJO and HOO to prep the novels more.  As much as I love the HOO characters, I have never reread the series. There’s nothing about them that routinely draws me back in. In contrast, PJO just has so much heart and love and humor and wit that, even though I’m 25 and have read so many “better” books in my life, I still go back to The Lightning Thief.

I have a Jewish character in a fantasy story who has a guardian golem who protects them from monsters on their adventure(with the character repairing it when it takes damage doing so), and if I did keep this guardian as being explicitly a golem I'd make sure to try and portray it well and in a sensible way, but as I'm not Jewish myself I'm not sure if I should be using golems in any form. If I shouldn't use golems for this character's guardian, is there any depiction of golems I could use in the story, like as guardians of synagogues or historic temples the character wants to visit during the story, or are they off-limits fully?

A golem is a Jewish mythical creature, so it's fine to write them if you have a Jewish character! Just make sure you research them fully 🙂

​I'm fine with this because that's what golems are for! Just research golem lore and make sure you trade beta-reads with a Jewish writer friend or get a paid sensitively reader (whatever's appropriate for your situation) to make sure you're on the right track and to smooth over any unintentional rough edges. I don't know everything there is to know about golems, but what I've heard includes that you write 'truth' in Hebrew on their forehead to wake them up (אמת) and then erase one letter to switch 'em back off again.

I'm so excited for this story! This is exactly the place for a golem. I will echo the suggestions to read up on the extant lore on golems. Honestly, the wiki article has a fair bit to get you going. Read that, and look for stories on the Golem of Chelm, and the Golem of Prague (and Rabbi Loew, its creator).

As Shira said, commonly golems are shown with a word on their forehead. Emet (loosely, "truth" or "faithful") is very common, but I have also seen stories where it's one of the names of God, and others where the name Adam (אדם) is put on, with an 'H' added (אדמה) to deactivate (making adamah, or 'earth').

The area where I feel compelled to add a truly personal opinion is in the ending. It is common for golem stories, told both from within the community and outside it, to end with the golem becoming unstable, or difficult to control. There are good reasons for this, and those are valuable stories, and I wouldn't say you shouldn't write one like that, but it also might be nice to see a golem story, especially one written by someone outside the community, where we get to keep our ally on our side.
