i've returned for 2 seconds to tell you that they're not leaving my head. (sort of unrelated but i've been thinking as well. what if vasco died before machete ? what would go down)
.
#ah this is so terribly cute#makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside#“possessed by the vaschete spirit” you and me both#their expressions are so sweet#couple of dorks#and I like the dusty desaturated color scheme! with pink and darker brown accents#gift art#insect-shenanigans#own characters#Vasco#Machete#as for what would happen if Vasco died first#and I'm assuming of natural causes like illness or old age#I suppose Machete would try to sneakily sponsor his funeral#throw the fanciest burial possible#and maybe add some kind of anonymous half hidden obscure tragiromantic inscription on the grave#about wishing to see him again one day#and then either go on to do what Vasco did and commission art in his honor#or get a bad case of widowhood effect and go downhill quickly after his passing#oh yeah he might start to financially support Vasco's widow so that there was a little less pressure on her to get remarried#as you may remember she's a lesbian and one lavender marriage was probably enough for her#I can see that being a thing in certain circumstances

I just explained this to someone and I thought I'd make a post for it on here too.
Shrouds in Percy Jackson are like this right?
But their siblings decorate and make them out of silks with decorative embellishments on them?
The empty ones are burned after a quest to symbolise that the person they were made for came back from a quest ALIVE.
The lack of cemetery at chb shows that when they burn Silena, Charlie, Luke, Lee, Castor, everyone's shrouds, they have their bodies in them. They're being cremated.
#which is horrible to think cus while you're on a quest your sibs are preparing for your possible death. which ig is a coping mechanism?#`i know your worring about your sibs possible death why dont you make them a burial shroud! if they come back alive we burn it with them!`#`what if they don't come back alive?`#`....ummm well still burn it`#castor and pollux#lee fletcher#michael yew#charlie beckendorf#silena beauregard#luke castellan#percy jackson#annabeth chase#percy jackon and the olympians#pjo#pjo hoo toa#now some might get taken home idk rick never says. it is a kids book he can't out right say it ig#rick riordan#now i dokt think decorating burial shrouds is a an mythology thing or greek thing i think its a 'shit we have to destract these kids from#thinking about the possibility of their siblings death! uhhhhh...... decorate a cloth with us? two birds one stone?'#thing. which is depressing but fair it gives them something else to work on instead of worrying#camp half blood#chb#dont quote me on ancient burial rights but cus idk#the last olympian#the lightning thief#the sea of monsters#the titans curse#the battle of the labyrinth

I love the Hualian adopting wwx as much as the next mentally ill gay but I also do think it would change his entire attitude towards certain things
Like
Wwx getting in trouble in the Cloud Recesses for the 200th time in a row:

You feel me?
#I’m just saying he would be more of a little shit which I didn’t think was possible at this point#he’s got a god and a ghost king on his side. he would know how best to utilize this#and they would only encourage this kind of shit#wei wuxian#hua cheng#xie lian#hualian#he calls his dad when he gets trapped in the burial mounds. coincidentally the war ends five minutes later#like it WOULD fix whatever’s wrong with him. but it would ALSO make him worse in different ways

@kinslayersadvocate you just gave me an excuse to post this doodle i had lying around
sim! :3c the classic lampião-style cangaceiro is from the 1920's so he doesnt get to match it 100%, but he grew up no sertão raised by his father's group in the 1880's and is fiercely attached to his culture. thinking about him reacting in ptbr to london's weird bullshit sparks joy

My goodness there is a lot of bullshit in the Jiang Cheng tag again.
#y'all really spend too much time thinking about a character you dislike#i on the other hand have severe jiang cheng brainrot and love thinking about him and reading scenes of the novel to back me up#so just to get it out#jiang cheng has at no point treated wei wuxian as a servant#he also did not abandon him right up until the moment wei wuxian killed jin zixuan and i think jc would've probably gotten over that#if it hadn't led directly to Jiang Yanli's death#again wei wuxian's defection was a fake ploy they made up to keep yunmeng jiang safe it is right there in the book#jiang cheng did in fact publicly acknowledge the debt he and wei wuxian owed to wen ning and wen qing (at least the amount he was aware of)#but was steamrolled over by the other sect leaders especially Nie Mingjue#talking about the wen remnants they were not just old people and kids like in the drama but actually cultivators#and it is very possible that they were part of the invading force of Lotus Pier because Wen Ning was there with some cultivators under him#and even though I still think it was wrong of jiang cheng to lead the siege of the burial mound why is anyone pretending that it was about#murdering the wen remnants for him and not getting to wei wuxian#and this isn't to say that Jiang Cheng is completely misunderstood and all good#he is still a deeply unpleasant person with a mountain of trauma#he isn't as bad or selfish as some of you make him out to be#just like wei wuxian isn't as good and pure as some of you like to pretend#all of the mdzs characters are at least a little awful with the notable exception of the kids and maybe Xiao Xingchen#thank you for coming to my ted talk

the evil indie game dev in my head keeps showing me tragic metaphors for loss via dreams structured like end of chapter minigames
#too poetic to be pissed#day one#my dead dog is back and healthy#but I don’t pay attention to him bc I’m too busy denying or trying to figure out why he’s back#day two#he’s there in photos but not there physically#and every time you look away he gets worse#so we ignore him in order to take as many photos as possible#day three#not really a metaphor for loss but#I get a call trying to bill me for burial#and I have to keep saying he’s dead and I’m holding the ashes#so there’s no body for their burial charges#more a take on capitalism#but still#loss#grief#indie games#five nights at loss

alright this one is a bit dark but. current spin sooo . out of the following options how would you most like to be remembered & reasoning if you'd like
sentient ai of you in a big computer
tree grown out of your grave/with your body
ashes scattered (where?)
bones fossilized for display
buried regularly / mausoleum
used to grow biodegradable bricks out of mushrooms
traditional burial
other?
FOSSILISE ME CAPTAIN
#asks#ok but genuinely a lot of these are cool#sentient ai might be fun but i fear that my postmortem conciousness would be used for bad...#tree is alright!! but i would have a difficult time choosing the type of tree etc and it seems like a logistical nightmare#im actually more familiar with the process of cremation but its not really my thing...#regular burial is EXPENSIVE and also the whole thing where you have to go clean the headstones or nameplates -#is kind of inconvenient. sure i love cleaning headstones but i wouldn't wish it on anyone else#the bricks one is so interesting... mushrooms pale in comparison to museum though#and then yeah same thing for traditional burial its just too formal and boring to me#<- guy who's been to enough funerals etc#anyways MUSEUMS.#now that's a real cool thing#i have actually been to a museum near me that had people's organs and bones and even preserved muscles in there#and i was like woah hell yes. all of that is me#so yeah. scientific donation is for me.#and also if possible i would love a little plaque or note by my bones that reads like. idk something nice or thoughtful#anyways. intriguing ask thanks anon

It seems [Edward IV] wanted a form of tomb that included a figure of himself in death – a cadaver, a permanent memento mori for others, 'as I am so will ye be' – beneath a figure of himself alive, a double-tiered tomb which would include a chanty chapel and an altar.
— Anne F. Sutton and Livia Visser-Fuchs, "Laments for the Death of Edward IV: 'It was a world to see him ride about'"
#this is so fascinating to me - he's the last person of his time I'd expect to want to be buried in a cadaver tomb#it's possible he was inspired by his stay in Burgundy#but that doesn't explain what specifically drew him to the concept and made him want to use it for his own burial#edward iv#english history#15th century#my post

general hcs for aftg zombie apocalypse? me i think kevin would try to be leader but unfortunately no one would listen to him/take him seriously :(
now i think if we’re talking like a few years into the apocalypse then it gets interesting like how the characters would change physically like….and what weapons would they use!! they’d def run into people who use exy rackets as weapons and kevin would be disgusted with them i think.
i LOVE apocalypse aus but none center kevin or write him right i wanna know what you’d think he’d be like in one
SUCH A FUN ASK THANK YOUUUUUUU! first of all your idea for kevin is so funny i have to concede. its true no one would care for him at all even if he tries.... honestly though (thinking hard) i think what kevin lacks in leader charisma he makes up for in the department of giving the rest of the group a Reason To Live and creating schedule and purpose where there is neither, so maybe he ummm...... well he's not gonna be the leader of the pack but he can be like the mascot. the shiny thing to cling to. you know what i mean. kevin's indomitable human spirit!
not to be guy who is kandreil pilled but i do think kevin would be very important for andrew and neil to live beyond the survival! i will put a dollar in the kevin day bird motif jar for this but in a way hed be like their little canary in a coal mine... while the crew travels i think kevin would be the one to point out the scenery or the bits of history along or to go over peoples houses and find pieces of life that are useful and maybe even endearing. and yeah hed hate the racquets as weapons! the complaining and the grumbling about it is not as annoying as andreil thought it would be (they are pleasantly surprised kevin still has it in him to care about anything)
AHHH sorry u asked for fun hcs and i gave you a long poem about kevin day being everyones special little boy lets see hmmm... of course andrew has the knives but i think he would eventually pick up something more violent as the world falls deeper in despair. a mallet perhaps? a hammer? something heavy! neil would i think do well with a gun and not actual hand to hand combat, sniping behind them....... i think kevin would also have a weapon of sorts something like a switchblade or a baseball bat. non-lethal but definitely harmful
#sorry i think kevin would be one of those terrible terrible people (me) who would not want to kill#even after fights i think hed be the person to give andreil the stink eye and ask them why they didnt aim for the leg or the arm#kevin would be actually Very methodical about all of this. have many rules as to when its fair to kill a human and when its not#and of course he has his little list of priorities on what to do. it should go something like this#talking first always. never shoot the first shot! we are gentlemen after all andrew#second if talking isnt achievable and violence has to be the answer#you should always incapacitate first#only when That isnt possible do you actually kill someone. its the last resort. for him at least#obviously andreil dont care but you know#also i think hed be a stickler about burials and funeral rites and sending people off#which drags the journey a lot admittedly#but he does insist. so#its faster if andreil help anyway. and they do. Theyve no choice#asks#kevin#andrew#neil

#this whole mini series takes place between episode 2 and 3 btw#racules likely just doesn't want to keep arguing about who's the spy bc he probably knows it's not the researcher though i don't necessaril#think that he genuinely thinks boshimaru is the spy at this moment like he knows it could be possible but doesn't see it as definite#he kept his promise of a proper burial had they just discarded her carelessly they would not have found the crown#the other researcher also puts trust in racules' promise to take care of his burial once he's executed and i think it shows how racules#is respected by his staff and there's and understanding between them#i'd like to see how this has changed since so much has happened from episode 3 to 20#also wondering how the researching changes under gira bc i doubt he'd want to kill them for knowing too much#i don't think it was something racules even necessarily 'wanted' to do but saw that they could be a threat to his kingdom's security and wa#able to say he'd do it as he found it necessary#but then again we never actually saw him kill anyone and he makes a lot of threats he never goes through with#vedalia was taken over by a bugnarak and he took the bugnarak out and that just so happened to also end vedalia's life#it seems like racules has to believe that this was right for vedalia as she cared about shugoddam and her findings and would have preferred#death over being used by the buganark#i have a lot of feelings about this as you can see#king ohger lb#super sentai lb#king ohger spoilers#umbrella.thoughts#umbrella.posts

Me: This job you're telling me, the one in the middle of nowhere and away from every big city in the state... Well, I checked the map, and you'd actually be closer to this big city in the neighboring state
My girlfriend: I will not be going there
Me: There's a Jewish community
My girlfriend: I will be going there
#Personal#It's in the southern US so the closest she can be to the Jewish community in the area... Well the better#I specially worry about possible funerals because she told me you need ten people for a Jewish funeral so I'm like “shit#“she gotta have another ten Jewish people if she wants a proper burial” like I know she's young and healthy but like#She's clumsy enough#You never know with her#I've known her since two years ago and she's managed to break her arm twice#So like#Highly accident prone

“To no man does the earth mean so much as to the soldier. When he presses himself down upon her long and powerfully, when he buries his face and his limbs deep in her from the fear of death by shell-fire, then she is his only friend, his brother, his mother; he stifles his terror and his cries in her silence and her security; she shelters him and releases him for ten seconds to live, to run, ten seconds of life; receives him again and often forever.
Earth! – Earth! – Earth!
Earth with thy folds, and hollows, and holes, into which a man may fling himself and crouch down. In the spasm of terror, under the hailing of annihilation, in the bellowing death of the explosions, O Earth, thou grantest us the great resisting surge of new-won life. Our being, almost utterly carried away by the fury of the storm, streams back through our hands from thee, and we, thy redeemed ones, bury ourselves in thee, and through the long minutes in a mute agony of hope bite into thee with our lips!”
– All Quiet On the Western Front, Erich Maria Remarque

#This has been rattling around in my head all afternoon#It feels fitting somehow but I can't articulate it any further than that yet#It's about home and Hole Media and the land and a lot of other things I've been thinking about recently#Burial too#Something about how unnatural it is for them to be on dry land at all#But also how the land has the possiblity of comfort and refuge and salvation that the open sea can't provide#I don't fucking know#But I will soon#i have more thoughts on this

the uffington horse is incredible, partly also because of its position in an ancient landscape!
it's very close to uffington castle, which is not a castle, it's a bronze age hill fort, possibly made by the same people who made the horse, at a time when the use of horses was really just starting in britain.
just below the horse is dragon hill, an artificially flattened hillock (likely iron age), which legend states is where saint george slew the dragon.
passing by uffington castle is the ridgeway, an ancient long-distance trackway that crosses england's southern chalk downs, from east to west, on an upland route that avoided what would have been areas of undrained marsh on the flats. the ridgeway also takes in avebury stone circle, which is the largest stone circle in the world (big enough to have a village in the middle of it) and part of a vast complex of ancient monuments. parts of the ridgeway are believed to be 5000 years old, and it continued to be used by the romans and then by medieval (and post-medieval) drovers, people who drove livestock long distances on foot to reach markets. it's now a national trail.
just a few miles from uffington, along the ridgeway, is wayland's smithy, actually an early neolithic chambered long barrow, said in legend to have been the forge of wayland, a germanic smith-god.
im having feelings about the uffington white horse again
#sorry i just have a lot of feelings about these places too#trackways where people have walked for 5000 years!#ancient burial chambers that story turned into a smith-god's forge!#chalk horses and mythological dragons!#if you ever have to make the choice skip stonehenge and go here#it's one of the most atmospheric and magical places i've ever been#but also be aware that the view of the horse pictured above is only possible from the air#you can only see bits at a time from the ground#which is frankly even more amazing because they made it without being able to see it

No wait, random worldbuilding idea:
A people who have an age-old tradition, that when warriors left home to go to war, their family that remains home prepare funeral goods for them while they wait, sewing them the clothes and preparing the tools and all that they will be buried with - to emotionally prepare them to the hard possibility that the one who left will not return home alive. If the warrior returns, their burial goods are all burned in a bonfire that is lit for the celebration of their return.
And to this modern day, mothers of the culture will tell their children "fine, but let me take your measures for burial clothes before you go" as a way of telling them that something they're about to do is lethally stupid. Sharing stories about just how dramatic their mothers are, someone tells their group of friends that his mother once actually took out a measuring tape to start taking his measures when he said he's leaving home for a work trip.
And another one goes "pfft, yeah. This one time I went to a rock concert and came back home to mom sitting on her sewing machine, fucking making me a funeral coat."
#and then the one not-from-this-culture friend of the group is completely out of the loop and HORRIFIED by the thought of all thid#and nobody will explain them why their mom passive-aggressively making funeral clothes for their living children is hilarious
