the smell of weed is strong enough to take over the small studio space, it slightly crowded with the amount of people in the room. a few producers sit in their chairs, altering the sound board controls every and now and then, a heavy bass booming through the system.

behind the door and in the booth is seungcheol, or s.coups (his stage name), spitting fire into the mic as he records the final tracks for an upcoming, anticipated mixtape. he had a pretty decent following after posting some songs on soundcloud for the fun of it, and it continued to grow when he released his first mixtape a few months ago. now pretty much everyone knew his name and it wouldn’t be long before he caught the attention of a mainstream, viral artist.

as he says his last words, the volume goes down and a voice fills the booth, “yeah man, that was great as fuck!” seungcheol smiles as he puts up his headphones and exits the room, dapping up all the producers to thank them for their hard work.

“this mixtape is gonna be so fire, cheol, you’re really out there now!”

“yeah, soon you’re not even gonna need us anymore, working with all those big time producers,” someone chimes in and seungcheol immediately frowns.

“hey man, don’t even say that. you guys were the first people to give me a chance, i’m never gonna forget my brothers,” he nudges them in their shoulder, and they respond by rolling their eyes.

“well that was the last track we had to do for today, what are you guys’s plans for tonight?” someone asks, but before he can even answer, seungcheol hears his phone ring with a text message alert.

“oh, that’s sage - she’s one of our main dancers. if you wanna see her dance for you though, you better ask fast. there’s a reason why she’s so popular,” she says as she walks away carrying the empty tray under her arms.

without a second thought, he gets up from the table and goes down the stairs, his friends groaning in disappointment that seungcheol was leaving them. “this is all for you and you’re leaving the fun?” someone calls out behind him.

“i’ll be back in a bit!” he waved his hand, motioning to shoo them away. “there’s something i wanna do first.” with his friends out of the way, now he could focus on what he really wanted - you.

little did the both of you know that you would meeting sooner than you thought. you needed to make your way to the dressing room to grab something, but you got so caught up in your drive that you didn’t even notice another body heading directly towards you. you and cheol then accidentally bump into each other, and luckily you’re able to regain your balance in your heels just in time.

“whoa, i’m so sorry, i didn’t see you ther-” seungcheol freezes mid-sentence when he realizes it was you he bumped into. “holy shit,” he thought to himself. you looked gorgeous from afar, but right in front of him? it was taking everything in him not to have his hard-on show.

“no, it was my bad, i wasn’t paying attention,” you respond, your voice flowing sweet like honey to him. you try to continue walking but cheol reaches out and grabs your hand. you look at him funny as he doesn’t say anything at first.

Those who weave (New Series Snippet)

So, I’m starting a new series! I’m not dropping Nostalgia of course, and that series is still my priority so this one won’t have scheduled updates, but I’m having a really tough time writing (in general, and for Nostalgia in specific) so I decided to start posting this one.

It is a Reincarnation fic, basically, with some curse elements. Of course, an AU, takes place mainly in the Viking era, late Middle Ages, and modern times.

It is an Ivar/Reader fic, but it does have a lot of Freydis in it, because...it’s me, of course it has Freydis on it. I am trying a new side of her on this one tho!

A few things about this story:

It is a Reader-insert, and though I do have a faceclaim for her (Turkish actress Özge Törer) it is for graphic thingies, no descriptions in the story. However, it isn’t very inclusive, since in some of their lives her and Freydis are half sisters. I’m sorry for that.

It will be divided into three acts/lives: Sight, Love, and Time.

It is a fucking mess. I have to leave behind very important themes of the canon story, like the aspect of Valhalla, and Ivar’s ambitions of fame, and many other things, because they simply don’t fit as conflicts or themes with a multiple-lives dynamic. But I have fun writing this, and I hope you will have fun reading it.

So yeah, I really don’t know how to make these announcement thingies, but I wanted to make one for this cause a) I worked really hard on that graphic thingy and I want you to see it cause I’m stupidly proud of myself, and b) I wanna check who wants to be tagged for this.

Snippet of...something under the cut. It technically happens during the Love Act, but it is a scene that doesn’t happen in the main story, an alternate POV of sorts.

So, quick ground rules: Ivar remembers their past lives (not all of it, but he remembers the Reader and Freydis, and sometimes other people), Freydis and the Reader don’t remember anything most of the time (but Freydis has premonitions regarding her and her sister’s futures).

Katia sits before you on the bed, her back to you and her eyes closed as you methodically brush her hair. Just like you used to when you were children.

Your mother taught you differently than Katia’s mother did, and she remembers how endlessly fascinated you were while growing up at how she chose to wear her hair with rarely any coverings, just as she was so delighted in finding linens and jewels to make and adorn your shawls and veils.

Your fingers replace the brush, and she feels you carefully toying with the strands of her hair.

You sigh, a little wistfully, a little lost.

“I liked it better when your hair was blonde,” You tell her, chuckling after your words like you haven’t just stopped her heart with but a sentence, “I miss braiding it.”

Katia tells herself this is nothing out of the ordinary. Since you were children she has heard you talk of a world neither of you ever knew, little lost promises of a life that was nothing but a dream.

She remembers how you’d wake her up saying your chest hurt and that you didn’t want to leave her alone, how you’d sit at her side in the mornings and ask if you’d ever be back home even as you had breakfast in the only home you had known; and she remembers how just as easily you’d lay by her side and sleep again with no memory of your pain come morning, how you’d smile wistfully and forget your nostalgia with a bite of a biscuit and the start of your day.

All her life, she has written it off as nothing other than illusions, nothing other than the soft heart of her sister lingering in a world of dreams.

Now, she isn’t so sure they are dreams. Now, she isn’t so sure she doesn’t know Ivar, now she isn’t so sure he is crazy.

The man towers over her, but strangely enough, Katia doesn’t feel fear.

All she feels is anger. All she feels is rage and hate.

And a part of her feels strangely vindicated at the lost look in his eyes, like someone she never was -or someone she never stopped being- is cruelly delighted at his pain.

“You are Freydis,” He tells her, and she keeps careful eyes on him but says nothing, “You’re playing games with me, y-you’ve cursed me.”

“Cursed you?” She asks, the beginning of a smile on her lips. To anyone else, she might look like a woman that has lost her mind, but, to him, she dares think, she looks like a woman powerful, a woman he’d wage war against. “I would think I’d have a reason to curse you. Tell me…did I?”

There’s something there, something human in all the rage of a monster, something like pain, like grief. But the man doesn’t allow it to linger for long, and the pain morphs into wrath before her eyes.

“You took everything from me.” He snarls, rough hand grabbing Katia’s arm and forcing her closer. His eyes are piercing and wrathful as they look into hers.

“What is going on here?” You call out from behind her. And the man’s eyes leave her to focus on you as you approach. His hand drops from her arm, and Katia holds her breath.

Pale blue eyes shine as your soft footsteps approach, and as the man’s expression trembles with something like pain, something like hope, something like love; Katia finds herself afraid to turn around and find a woman she doesn’t recognize in her sister’s place.

She notices the change in him at the sight of you, and for the first time she feels fear.

And she waits now, with baited breath, for you to shake off the veil of dreams, the chimera of something that never was, that never would be.

But you don’t. You continue trailing soft and delicate fingers through her long hair, as if you aren’t making dread and fear poison her from the inside with each passing breath of silence.

“Blonde?” She asks, and her voice trembles, but she doesn’t care.

“Mhm,” You mumble, not really paying attention. After a moment, you take a breath and start again, “Ivar’s eyes were very blue today, di-…”

“His name isn’t Ivar. You should know that by now.”

“That’s what he said his name is.” You insist, but there’s a strange stillness to the way you hold yourself now, when she turns to meet your gaze.

“And he says my name is different too, do you believe him?”

“You aren’t Freydis,” You chuckle, saying the name that haunts Katia’s dreams with terrifying ease. And it feels familiar, coming from your lips. As familiar as the curve of your smile, as familiar as the way you look at that monster that pretends to be a man. You reach with your hand to put a lock of dark hair behind her ear, and offer a soft smile, “Your hair is different.”

She asks what she hasn’t dared ask in a whole life at your side, “W-What else is different?”

“Everything is, and…nothing is,” Your eyes are dazed, and though you are looking directly at her Katia would swear you cannot see her. “You’re my sister, and you love me. That hasn’t changed.”

She doesn’t quite understand why a part of her sighs in relief at hearing you admit you know -knew?- of her love for you, but she does understand why a part of her tightens in fear at the implications that swim in her mind.

And she voices another question, “And what he is to you, has that changed?”

The promised post on why Dany was never meant to become the mad queen

 In the following essay I will try to pick up most of the reasons people try to push down our throats on how this was foreshadowed. A few disclaimers first:

- I am a 27 yr old female with a happy life (and yet look at me bitching on tumblr) so please save your patronising ‘Dany fanboy’ bullshit

-I have read the books and seen the show more times than I can count

-I am judging Dany based on GoT world not modern-day morals

-I believe in eye-for-an-eye justice when fighting a greater evil. E.g. You SHOULD punch a Nazi in the face and no, there weren’t ‘bad people on both sides’ in Charlottesville. There are certain people you just cannot reason with and if you’re weak they will fuck over you and anyone they consider weak.

-I agree Dany is ruthless but not mad to the level portrayed by season 8 and she would never go on a rampage the way it happened. I could’ve believed her going straight for the Red Keep and burning it down. This would still result in killing innocent people due to falling debris/excess fire - which is pretty awful for someone trying to save innocents but would make sense in a ‘this is personal’ shitty moment they’re trying to achieve. Burning KL street by street makes no sense.

So without further ado, here goes:

1) Not caring about Viserys being killed violently

Viserys sexually abused his younger sister, sold her off to a warlord and said he’d happily let savages and their horses rape her to death. If that’s not bad enough, he also threatened to kill not just her but her baby. I would be really worried for her state of mind if she DID care about him dying

2) Loving Drogo’s speech about raping/pillaging in Westeros

I’m pretty certain it wasn’t the raping/pillaging part that she liked. For the first time in her life someone believed in her and was willing to do something extraordinary (i.e. crossing the Narrow Sea) and win back her birthright. For her. Also, later she forbade the Dothraki from raping (which eventually led to Drogo being wounded) so pretty sure this is not her aesthetic.  "I have claimed many daughters this day... so they cannot be mounted.""It pleases me to keep them safe."  pretty possessive but you get the point. If you need another example, she also explicitly forbade Yara’s people from doing the same.

3) Burning  Mirri Maz Duur

Oh come on, do I really need to explain why it makes sense after someone kills your husband, your baby and then puts a curse on you that you would kill them? Oh, and all this after you save them. Sure, Mirri had a point about having been raped already but did she want it to continue or something? Makes no sense that she took out all her vengeance back on Dany. Is anyone calling Mirri mad tho?

4)  “When my dragons are grown… we will lay waste to armies and burn cities to the ground.”

She’s starving and her entire Khalasar is close to dying- of course the girl is gonna try anything to get inside Qarth! GoT is a harsh world where even an illusion of strength gains respect and this is exactly what she’s doing here. I cannot count the number of times she has said things like ‘I will not be queen of the ashes’ or saying she will spill ‘blood of her enemies, not innocents’. We clearly should not judge her words but her (pre-S8E5) actions instead. (This also applies to her  “I will take what is mine with fire and blood.” line and any other time she threatens to burn down a city. They’re just angry, desperate words and she never goes through with it. Until D&D forgot how to write.)

4) Burning the house of the Undying/Locking up  Xaro Xhoan Daxos

So they steal her dragons and murder her close friend and fellows and what? They get away with it? No self-respecting person would allow that in GoT reality. Just remember that Jon kills a 10 yr old boy (who saw his parents get murdered by wildlings) and Arya murders the entire house Frey in a pretty disgusting way. No one is calling them mad.

5) “Half the Targaryens went mad, didn’t they? What’s the saying? ‘Every time a Targaryen is born, the gods flip a coin.’”

Jon didn’t. Dany’s mother didn’t. Aegon the Conqueror didn’t. She literally spends hours on this show saying she is disgusted by her father, is not him and has many main characters say it too.

6) Crucifying 163 slavers in Mereen

You lost me when you tried to defend slavers.

Also, to those complaining of her killing slavers as young as 13- she was 13 in the books at that time and felt that if she knew better others should do.

7) Burning Vaes Dothrak

She wouldn’t have been able to escape, even with the help of Jorah and Daario. Nor was the three of them strong enough to battle all the Dothraki so it makes sense she figured out a way to avoid getting raped and killed. Many other women on this show don’t seem to like the idea of rape and yet they’re not called mad! Funny.

8) Burning the Tarlys

This one annoys me so much I made a whole other post about it.  Not only did she offer for them to take the black but they were traitors. They were sworn bannermen to house Tyrell. House Tyrell was sworn to Dany. By turning on house Tyrell they became traitors and deserved to die. Traitors get killed in GoT. Also, can we stop acting like Dickon was innocent? Not once has he defended Sam and he admitted to killing many of his friends in Highgarden in what was basically a massacre.

Just a few additional good things that don’t get pointed out enough:

1) "Khaleesi, this man has been sentenced to death." Dany offers a crucified, dying slave some water.

2) Time and time again she listens to her advisors despite them giving her the shittiest advice ever which continue to make her lose more of her forces when she could’ve just burnt the Red Keep.

3) She does not go straight for the throne when in Westeros and instead fights with the North (despite all the hate she gets from the folk up there) to save innocent lives. She easily could’ve pulled a Cersei and waited it out. She also saves Jon’s ass whilst there. Once to complete Tyrion’s ridiculous plan of bringing a wight to KL and twice during the battle of Winterfell. 

4) She ignores advice from Olenna 

4) She reaches out to Cersei multiple times to avoid spilling blood

I could carry on with the good stuff but I just wanted to confront the BS about how it was always obvious she could become mad. I can see it was ‘foreshadowed’ that ‘a’ Targaryen could go mad but this is NOT the same as character development.

First of all before I respond to anything, you do not have to apologise. This is quite literally my dream way to spend my time- talking to someone about a thing I like at length. The fact that you checked all the posts I made and took time to respond to them with your thoughts means the world to me.

2- I’m also really hoping we get a lot for McGregor (wtf is with that alternate spelling Disney?? But I do want the other two to call him Mac, I’d love that), learning to relax and find his place. I LOVE that Lily gets to do physical comedy, you’re right female characters often only get to be funny so long as that means they can still be sexy while doing it. Lily looks like she just goes “nope” to that and dives headfirst into a bit of slapstick and I love her already- cont

3- I really like Dwayne, hes got a warmth to him that comes across in Frank, even if hes trying not to show it to the siblings at first. I really want proper sibling moments too and I love that little one we got in the clip. Like, “you don’t get to laugh at my sister, now excuse me while I go give her a hand while laughing at her”. 4- I love your idea for the coming out scene. I think they’d be walking a very fine line in order to get it right, but if they did it could be wonderful. I really really hope we get that scene, no skirting around it or making vague illusions, I want McGregor to say “I’m gay” outright. Like, we’ll all know he is even if they don’t let him say it but for once I want Disney to live up to what they promised and let an actual main character be actually gay.- cont

5- I love the connection with the lights for our trio in the posters, I didn't put that together. I really want them to be a proper Trio, I’m really hoping this is a success so we can get sequels. Even if they’re terrible I still want them to see these three together. FRANK IS HUGGING MCGREGOR, I’VE GOT A GOOD FEELING ABOUT THIS ALREADY. 6- I LOVE THAT GIF SET OF THE PUNS SO MUCH!! McGregor’s little smile and his laugh, hes loving it, Frank is loving getting a reaction, Lily is going to eventually find it funny how unfunny they are. I can’t get over how much I love McGregor’s little face in this, I can’t want for this scene, I’m gonna join you in imploding. Also, in your protective brother gifset, is he wearing a little tartan/ plaid suit? Love it. And on that note, I adore Lily’s costumes- practical and realistic but flattering

So on to my very long response!

I've watched SO much about the ride just so I'm prepared to catch any reference. They just released Behind the Attraction on Disney+ and ep 1 is about the Jungle Cruise ride (Dwayne Johnson is in it too!). He talks about how much he loved the ride as a kid and used to imagine himself as a skipper which is SO cute and I'm so happy his dreams came true (and I find it very relatable as someone who dreams about being a raptor handler at Universal).

I'm genuinely a lil mad that the spelling changed. Because if you google it really everyone thought it was McGregor, they must've at some point released something on the movie for the press with that spelling and then changed their mind. Now everyone has it wrong because I suspect these featurettes are also gonna be the DVD/Bluray extras so I'm confident this is the final spelling. However I will continue to live in denial until I see the other spelling ON SCREEN.

"I really like Dwayne, hes got a warmth to him that comes across in Frank, even if hes trying not to show it to the siblings at first." Yes! I love that every character is a trope that I ADORE. Frank is the cynic who thinks everyone just wants to cheat you anyway and miracles don't exist who eventually cracks and warms up to people and shows that there is a soft, warm person in there after all. Lily is wildly optimistic and aggressively individualistic, not trying to fit in or caring about what anyone thinks and will probably have a moment of losing that optimism and doubting herself after all. And McGregor is the person who appears to think he's better than everyone, who's pampered and refuses to sacrifice any of the luxuries he's used to until he reveals he's gay and you realise most of it was just a show to cover up how hurt he really is. Three PEAK character tropes we're working with here and COMBINED with a reluctant-allies to lovers and a siblings trope.

Like thats a great example of having siblings, I’ll help you out, but I’m totally going to mock you while doing it, but no one else can" I have a gifset for that queued already, I love that you also focused on that rightaway bc I really went "Siblings! peak sibling energy!!" and gifed it immediately.

Based on the reports (that I cannot stress enough I have no idea how accurate they are) he doesn't say "gay" but it's unambiguous what he's talking about. Let's hope that's true! I'm imaginging some sort of "relationships with men" or "no interest in women but rather men" or sth like that. I hadn't really considered that it might be ambiguous to someone who doesn't know he's supposed to be gay so that's a new fear unlocked lmao

I'm going to be so sad if we don't get sequels cause so many franchises with several movies don't have a core group of actors that are just friends and get along as well naturally as these three. Or if we get more movies and Jack isn't in them or sth like that. Like any future where these three aren't the leading trio in more movies is a nightmare.

McGregor laughing at Frank's puns alone could sustain me another year if I had to wait that long for the movie. Luckily I don't have to. It is so wholesome tho, like the fact that they're gonna get along and also get closer and McGregor won't end up sidelined for being a bitch until the last minute or sth is so wonderful.

And yes! It's tartan! We've seen p little of the beginning of the movie in London and since that's gonna be focused on just Lily and McGregor I'm so excited bc we got so little content so there's gonna be SO much in the movie to look forward to that I can barely even piece together!!! (All we know is lily will steal the arrowhead before falling out of the window which mcgregor sees and he immediately follows her so I assume he knew to come there and that there's a scene where she asks him in one of their bedrooms about wanting to go on an adventure. So I'm assuming the bedroom scene comes first and she'll tell him about the arrowhead, he'll refuse to help her but decide to come last minute because he's worried about her (and the worry is immediately proven right as she falls out of a window lol). But we know so little that it's a really loose theory.

And yes!! Lily's costumes are so good. Frank calls her Pants so they will absolutely address that she's dressed very unusual for a woman of her status in 1916/17 and I hope they explore that a little and address where she even gets her clothes and everything. I mean Emily Blunt looks good in everything but the costume department really made something gorgeous with this. She is, for the time the movie is set in, very gender nonconforming which I love in a female lead. And Emily described Lily's fighting style as very Indiana Jones and brutal without much tactic or thinking and just brute force and I really would die for this characterisation. Like when I compare this to similar female leads like in The Mummy for example they're usually highly feminine, aggressive only in their attittude and witty banter but always emphasised to be beautiful and wearing dresses and lots of (usually historically inaccurate) makeup and they get like one scene where they smack the bad guy with sth heavy or sth so noone can say they're a damsel in distress even though they are. But Lily feels very much like a coherent person to me. She's very unusual for a woman at her time, her desire for adventure is in line with how she fights and dresses but she doesn't seem to have the "uwu I'm not like other girls" thing going on, she's just exactly who she is and wants to be.

and of COURSE I wanna hear your theory are you kidding! Cause I still haven't figured it out at all lmao. I just settled on "she probably meant he was off screen but right next to them while they filmed it" or sth bc I couldn't make sense of it otherwise.

1. I WILL save money this year!

So I will be starting university from September (yaaay!) and I want to document my experience in some form or another. Believe it or not, the #studyblr community on tumbr helped me a lot in motivating me through my all nighters, so what is better than here!?

I want start off with my university goals and hopefully turn it into a series. This is my way of keeping my mind stimulated during the summer and not simply spending copious amounts of time on YouTube (…..that will still happen tho! Oh yes, but girl’s still gotta work).

So to my first university goal: Saving money!

YES, I was actually the sort of millennial who believed if she did not look at her bank statement, everything was hanky dory…

So since 2013 I had been earning my own money - nothing too fancy, it was mostly through tutoring and last year during my year out, I found work which paid great (the work tho *siiigh* smh) but I did leave. Henceforth, since June 2016 till present June, ladies and gentlemen I had been living on ONE paycheck- yes ONE pay check, oh my! This is not unrealistic, I live at home, so main living expenses were taken cared, so my money could be used in other areas. BOY, now let me tell you, one would think to spend reasonably if they had ONE paycheck to spare, unfortunately I did not!

It cannot be said that I spent ostentatiously, but mostly just unnecessarily. You guessed it, most was spent on food 🙈🙈🙈 and I’m not too proud to say, but this was my first academic year where I bought lunch 95% of the time, instead of taking a packed lunch- and that’s a wtf moment for me, as I grew up on packed lunches and school dinners were a treat on fridays! (I’m British, so fish n chips ftw)

Like who did I think I was, buying coffee everyday before class?? and it was not even the crappy stuff, we’re talking artisan! But in short, I spent unnecessarily and I am so so glad that I girl’d up and looked at my bank statement and nearly passed out!

GUYSSSS and when I say God is good, He is I N C R E D I B L E. We will make a separate post about God helping me in my academic journey (and life), for all credit os due to Him for my accomplishments. Even when it came to me being at the edge of broke (we’re talking double digits, close to single) He has ALWAYS ALWAYS DELIVERED and I am ashamed that I will am not worthy.

Seeing my bank statement, really put things into perspective and I was like giiiirl, these broke b memes are an illusion, it ain’t “banter” anymore- you may have to sell an organ to afford a train fare and suddenly the memes did not seem funny anymore.

So I am more than determined to SAVE THE FUDGE out of my earnings this year.

And what earnings would that be you ask?

I was given an amazing opportunity to work on an initiative in my field of interest for the last 6 weeks and will continue for a couple more weeks. But I have also by God’s grace been offered a permanent, part time job!!!!

So I promise before you all (let me dramatic please!) that your girl WILL go to university and she will be a BAD ASS MONEY SAVER (Dear God protect me from all these food places in London. Amen!).

Another goal of mine before uni commences is to open up a savings account (…but first this girl gotta fix up her online banking eeek)

We will be frugal and we will be stingy, but most of all we will save for a better tomorrow.

What’s Important

If you were to scroll through my past posts, you would see I very rarely blog on tumblr.  I have used it only a few times to release my thoughts and also for my career path....The reason my lack of tumblr use is mentionable is because it shows just how important what I am about to discuss is.  There is a very serious reason why I turned to my blog at this moment in time.  The main reason is because I feel very strongly about a certain situation and needed somewhere to vent.  However, I came here, instead of the more traditionally and commonly used Facebook for two reasons.  For one, there is only a certain number of characters permitted which I knew I would quickly surpass.  Secondly, it is because I am not writing for comments or opinions or arguments, which so commonly occur on Facebook.  

What is the topic that has brought me to this point? Racism.  Human beings in which have been depicted one thing or another since the beginning of time, and answering questions such as why, how long will it last, what does it all mean, who created it, and when/where did it start? 

To start, I will say that although I have engaged in plenty of research, this is more of a free writing than factual, so I will not list multiple facts.  I will simply stick to the basics.  Clearly, (the majority of) racism began with slavery.  Sure there are several ideas and beliefs as to how and why slavery began, but the bottom line is black ‘versus’ white still exists today mainly because of slavery.   How did slavery begin and deem African Americans as slaves?  Simply put, “  the only justification by which humanity could face it was to divide people into races and decide that the Africans were an inferior race."

So without getting too in-depth, let’s think about the basics for a minute.  Africans were, no denying it, a part of slavery.  IMO, this is a huge factor in where racism stems from.  This is why so many Africans are against anyone who isn’t African.  This is why African's are bothered by their own race engaging in friendships and relationships with those that are not African.    

Oh, but wait....It really isn’t as previously mentioned, is it?  Is it not crazy to anyone else that the non Africans are the ones that have the biggest issue with their race and culture engaging in relationships with those that are Africans?  Because to me it is. Yes there are plenty of ‘blacks’ that are homeless, unemployed, living off welfare, in jail, absent from their children’s lives, thieves, murderers, etc., etc., etc.  But are there not people of every other race that all are/do the same????  Why is it that they are the ones constantly and continuously judged for honestly nothing more than their skin color??

Again, this is a personal writing so I want to get back to my own feelings and thoughts without anymore history of the subject.  Flat out, I am a Caucasian with many African friends.  I am the person who goes out for smoke breaks at work, out to dinner, out for drinks, and now currently lives with, an African-American.  I am the person so many people have an issue with, all the while, they don’t realize the bigger issue is the one I have with them, for even having an issue with me.

I come from an Italian family that ‘taught’ me I was never to date a man outside of my race.  (Particularly a ‘black man’).  On the same note however, my non-Italian mother always told me to never date an Italian, I guess because she did and was so dissatisfied with her decision (based off of my experiences and outlook on their dysfunctional marriage).  

Luckily enough for me, I never really listened or paid any attention to either of their idiotic ideas about who I should or should not date or befriend.  I dated an Italian at the age of thirteen, who was also my first kiss.  Was my mom thrilled? No.  I had a best friend who had an African friend, also at the age of thirteen.  The first time we all went to my house to go swimming I recall it being an issue.  Almost twenty years ago, it is a day that still sticks out to me because of how it made me feel.  I did not understand why it felt ‘not okay’ for a person of another color to come swimming with us.  

Somehow, even at that age, I was still innocent and ignorant to the awful truth.  Even thought I knew my friends’ friend was not allowed over because of her skin color, I had no idea the depth of it nor how serious it would become later in life.  

I didn’t have many friends of another race for many years after this, simply due to environmental surroundings.  At a later age, in my mid-twenties, I become super close with a co-worker.  Several years later, he is still one of the few people I can always count on.  He was the first person to begin my birthday celebrations with me this year.  He found my brand new sweatshirt at a bar the first time we hung out outside of work and made sure I didn’t drive home alone from Downtown Cleveland.  He is African-American.   Does it bother me? Not at all.  Would not even mention it if it were not the point of this blog.  Love you day1.

Last year on my 30th birthday, I went to Put-in-Bay.  Something I really, really wanted to do.  It took forever to plan and I had a very hard time trying to put a group of people together for it, mostly due to their schedules (work, kids, family, etc.). Like i said tho, I did go.  With one person.  Someone who also began as a coworker but became one of my very best friends.  Someone who also is of African descent.  Does this bother me?  Not in the least.  My wife means the world to me :)            

And last but not least, my best friend, boyfriend, partner, love of my life, and so much more, is also a different color than me.  And my favorite part is the fact that my daughter, only after having been exposed to the idea of racism, still only referred  to him as “he’s just a different color, I don’t understand what the big deal is”.  People, especially children, are so very innocent and unaware of the idea of racism.  It is NOT something people are born with, it is taught.  Although I was raised to turn away, I rose above the idiocracy of the idea and became a much better person because of it.  I would never change who I am who what I think or how I feel.  And I can only pray my daughter will continue to feel the way she does now and not be so unfortunately tainted with the horrible illusions that remain.

      Do I think black is all right and that none of them hate white people? Absolutely not.  Do I think it’s possible for it all to just disappear overnight? Not at all.  (I could only wish). Am I ignorant to the fact that there are plenty of ‘blacks’ out there that are racist too?  Nope.  There are.  I totally get it.  Are there several that fit the ‘stereotype’?  Of course.  But don’t plenty of other races fit their stereotype too, and yet we give certain ones a chance because they are different or mean something to us or impact our life in  an unforgettable way???  Or because their race isn’t so noticeably different immediately, on the outside? I have fallen in love with a person whom has a different skin tone than myself and it has caused several complications so early on and we both are aware that it will only continue to happen and although we are both more than willing to face any and all issues together, I cannot help but question WHY at the end of the day...Why must it continue to go on like this, to this extreme???
