Walz has served as Minnesota’s governor since 2019 after 12 years in the House of Representatives and now chairs the Democratic Governors Association. He has built a reputation as a folksy politician who can get things done, as Minnesota has adopted a number of progressive laws during his tenure. According to a poll conducted earlier this year, Walz enjoys an approval rating of 55% among Minnesotans. Since Minnesota Democrats achieved a legislative trifecta in the 2022 elections, Walz and his allies have used their power to push a slate of progressive policies. The governor has signed bills protecting abortion access, expanding background checks for prospective gun owners and legalizing recreational marijuana. “Right now, Minnesota is showing the country you don’t win elections to bank political capital,” Walz said last year. “You win elections to burn political capital and improve lives.” That philosophy has endeared him to progressives, who threw their support behind him as the veepstakes kicked into high gear over the past two weeks. They reshared clips of Walz lovingly mocking his daughter’s vegetarianism and tinkering with his car to paint him as the dad that America needs right now.
This is fucking awesome! Honestly, sincerely good news and a very promising pick for the potential Harris Administration. An aggressive, unabashed, popular, populist left-winger with a track record of enacting real, substantive help for people is capital-G Great.
What has he done, specifically?
Abortion rights
In a 1995 ruling, the Minnesota Supreme Court upheld abortion rights in Minnesota. In January 2023, Walz signed the PRO Act (Protect Reproductive Options Act) into law, making abortion a "fundamental right," as well as access to contraception, fertility treatments, sterilization and other reproductive health care.
The law made Minnesota the first state to codify abortion rights in the aftermath of the U.S. Supreme Court's 2022 ruling in the case of Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization, which nullified Roe. v. Wade after nearly 50 years of precedent. In April 2023, Walz signed the Reproductive Freedom Defense Act into law, shielding women and providers from any legal action originating from the patient's state.
Pro-LGBTQIA+ legislation
In March 2023, Walz signed an executive order to protect the right of residents to have access to gender-affirming health care. Weeks later, he signed the "Trans Refuge" bill, banning the enforcement of arrest warrants, extradition requests and out-of-state subpoenas for those who traveled to Minnesota for care.
"When someone else is given basic rights, others don't lose theirs," Walz said. "We aren't cutting a pie here. We're giving basic rights to every single Minnesotan."
Paid family, medical and sick leave
In May 2023, Walz signed a law creating a state-run program to provide paid family and medical leave for Minnesota workers, funded by a 0.7% payroll tax on employers, by 2026.
Legalization of recreational marijuana
In May 2023, Minnesota became the 23rd state in the nation to legalize recreational cannabis use. Three months later, people 21 and older could start to possess certain amounts of marijuana at home and on their person, in addition to legally growing up to eight plants at a time.
Restoration of voting rights for former felons
In March 2023, Walz signed a bill that restored the right to vote to more than 50,000 convicted felons who had already served their time.
Universal school meals
Amid the increase in food insecurity for many Minnesotans during the pandemic, and the subsequent strain on the state's food shelves that remains to this day, Walz signed a bill in March 2023 that ensures all K-12 students in the state have access to free breakfast and lunch on school days.
Do you know what makes this even better?
Tumblr media
Fuck 'Em. I know negative partisanship is important and can help motivate right-wingers to vote, but they're going to vote anyway. And him being afraid of Walz is just a sign that he's a good pick, in policy and politics.

BRANDS TO BOYCOTT
1 Consumer boycott goals:
Let's start by boycotting these brands that are directly involved in Israeli apartheid
'' BIG THREE''
Mc Donald: gives free meals to Israeli soldiers
Disney ( sadly, Disney was my childhood): declared support for Israel by pledging $2 million
Starbucks: sued his union over its pro-Palestine positions
Siemens
Siemens (Germany) is the prime contractor of the Euro-Asia Interconnector, an Israel-EU undersea power cable that is expected to connect illegal Israeli settlements in the occupied Palestinian territories to Europe. Siemens brand appliances are sold all over the world.
PUMA
PUMA (Germany) sponsors the Israel Football Federation, which governs teams in illegal Israeli settlements in the occupied Palestinian territories.
Carrefour
Carrefour (France) is a facilitator of genocide. Carrefour-Israel supported Israeli soldiers who took part in the genocide of Palestinians in Gaza with gifts of personal parcels. In 2022 it entered into a partnership with the Israeli company Electra Consumer Products and its subsidiary Yenot Bitan, both of which were involved in serious violations against the Palestinian people.
AXA
When Russia invaded Ukraine, the insurance giant AXA (France) took targeted measures against it. Yet as Israel, a 75-year-old regime of colonialism and apartheid, wages a genocidal war on Gaza, AXA continues to invest in Israeli banks that finance war crimes and the theft of Palestinian land and natural resources.
Hewlett Packard Inc (HP Inc)
HP Inc (USA) provides services to the offices of the genocide leaders, Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu and Finance Minister Smotrich.
SodaStream
SodaStream is actively complicit in Israel's policy of displacing Israel's indigenous Bedouin-Palestinian citizens in the Naqab (Negev) and has a long history of racial discrimination against Palestinian workers.
Ahava cosmetics
Ahava have their production site, visitor center and main store in an illegal Israeli settlement in the occupied Palestinian territories.
D/MAX
RE/MAX (USA) markets and sells property in illegal Israeli settlements built on stolen Palestinian land, thus enabling Israeli colonization of the occupied West Bank.
2 Divestment objectives:
Elbit Systems
Elbit Systems is the largest apartheid Israeli arms company. It “field tests” its weapons against the Palestinians, including in Israel's ongoing genocidal war against the Palestinians in Gaza. In addition to building killer drones, Elbit produces surveillance technology for the apartheid wall, checkpoints and fence in Gaza, enabling apartheid. The US and EU use Elbit technology to militarize their borders, violating the rights of refugees and indigenous peoples.
HD Hyundai/Volvo/CAT/JCB machinery
by HD Hyundai (South Korea), Volvo (Sweden/China), CAT (United States) and JCB (United Kingdom) have been used by Israel in the ethnic cleansing and forced displacement of Palestinians through the destruction of their homes, farms and commercial activities, as well as the construction of illegal settlements on stolen land, a war crime under international law.
Barclays
Barclays Bank (UK) holds more than £1 billion in shares and provides more than £3 billion in loans and subscriptions to nine companies whose weapons, components and military technology have been used in Israel's armed violence against Palestinians.
CAF
The Basque transport company CAF builds and provides maintenance services to the Jerusalem Light Rail (JLR), a tram line serving illegal Israeli settlements in Jerusalem. The CAF benefits from Israel's war crimes on stolen Palestinian lands.
Chevron
The US fossil fuel multinational Chevron is the main international company extracting gas claimed by Israeli apartheid in the eastern Mediterranean. Chevron generates billions in revenue, bolstering Israel's war chest and apartheid system and exacerbating the climate crisis.
HikVision
Amnesty International has documented high-resolution CCTV cameras made by Chinese company Hikvision installed in residential areas and mounted on Israeli military infrastructure for surveillance of Palestinians. Some of these models, according to Hikvision marketing, can connect to external facial recognition software.
TKH Security
Amnesty International has identified cameras from the Dutch company TKH Security used by Israel for surveillance of Palestinians. TKH supplies the Israeli police with surveillance technology used to enforce apartheid.
Other brands:
Zara
Zara's latest marketing campaign uses corpses in plastic wrapping, and warzone aesthetics, mocking the genocide by israel in Gaza. In a previous incident Joey Schwebel, a Canadian-Israeli dual national and chairman of israel's Zara franchisee Trimera, hosted the convicted terrorist Itamar Ben-Gvir at his home in the lead-up to the Israeli elections. Zara did not made a statement distancing themselves from this association and allowed this ad campaign to run.
Adidas
Adidas uses isr@eli manufacturer, Delta Galil, to manufacture its underwear range.
Prada:
Prada Beauty is a partnership with L'Oreal, which is a 'warm friend of Isr@el'.
Louis Vuitton:
The owner of Louis Vuitton's parent company, LVMH, Bernard Arnault invests hundreds of millions in Isr@eli companies
Dior:
The owner of Dior's parent company, LVMH, Bernard Arnault invests hundreds of millions in Isr@eli companies
Caterpillar:
Caterpillar bulldozers have been used in the demolition of Palestinian homes. The D9 bulldozer was specifically designed for the IOF.
American Eagle:
American Eagle posted an image of the Isr@eli Flag on their flagship billboard in Times Square showing their support for the apartheid state.
Fenty Beauty by Rihanna:

Review: the Daedalus Falcon e-spinner
Tumblr media
Originally posted on my blog: https://garaksapprentice.blogspot.com/2023/09/review-daedalus-falcon-e-spinner.html
(There's a ton of photos in this one and much as I love you all, I cannot brain moving them all over here. So if you want all the pics, please check the blog.)
I confess, this is a departure from my usual "let's do things with the least amount of money we can get away with" style. In my defence, I strive to be frugal rather than cheap. I don't mind spending the money to get a good quality, durable product, if it's something I know will get a lot of use. An e-spinner definitely fits that category for me, for several reasons.
One, I fall well on the frog hair end of the spinning spectrum, something most traditional wheels just aren't designed to accommodate. I actually found it faster (and easier on my legs) to use a spindle for the kinds of fine, high-twist yarns I prefer to spin. But, there are limits to how fine I can comfortably go on a spindle - anything past about 50 WPI and I have to concentrate just on the spinning. Not good when you typically use a spindle on the go.
Two, I have a lingering knee injury that doesn't like the treadle action of most spinning wheels (something I find hilariously frustrating given I ride a cargo bike anywhere I can't take the train).
Three, I spin mostly to weave. Much as I love spinning, I like it to end eventually so I can move onto the weaving part of the equation.
After three straight months of research, the Daedalus Falcon came out as the hands-down winner for my goals of speed, fine yarn, and product durability.
Why Daedalus?
Daedalus manufacture high-end e-spinners and spinning accessories. All their products are designed to need little to no maintenance, and to last 20+ years - they're seriously well put together.
They make five different e-spinners to suit just about any spinning preference, from super bulky art yarn to ultra fine frog hair. The Falcon is specifically designed for production spinning of fine yarns - it can reach speeds of 4,200 RPM, over twice what I could get from my Ashford Traditional wheel.
Ordering
I'll be honest, I spent a long time thinking about which model, and whether to order a Daedalus at all. These beauties are high-performance machines built to last. But, that means they come with the price tag of a high-performance machine. Plus currency exchange. Plus postage. (Yikes.) In all, I spent just under AU$2,000 on my Falcon set-up (I ordered three extra bobbins at US$90 and some yarn control cards for US$24).
At the time I ordered (November 2022), there was an estimated wait time of 12 months or more. Luckily for me, if not my bank account, Daedalus expanded their production capacity over the 2022 Christmas break. I reached the front of the Falcon queue in June 2023 (seven months from sign-up). At the time of writing (September 2023) there is no queue for the Falcon, and the Daedalus team are working to banish their waitlists completely.
The package
My Falcon came party disassembled, cradled in bubble wrap. (I wasn't thinking about writing a review when I ordered it, so I didn't take pictures.) The flyer assembly was individually wrapped for transport, as were the speed controller, inverter, cables, and welcome pack/spares bag.
The inverter is a standard laptop style pack. It comes with a US-ended jug plug, but that's easy to change out for whatever your local plug end is. I dove into my box of spare cables and leads and had a compatible jug plug in less than two minutes. If you don't have a box of old computer cords lying around, what century did you time travel from plan ahead and buy a new one.
Importantly, the inverter outputs 15 volts! Make absolutely sure that you've got the right one when you go to spin! Most laptops nowadays run on 20 volts - you don't want to damage the motor by running it faster than it's designed for.
{pic on blog}
The extension cable for the speed controller, and the power end on the motor itself, is some non-standard end that I've never seen before. (It's probably very common among people who know things about electronics; I'm not one of them.) It's similar to USB-A connectors in that the ends are directional; if you don't get them the right way up, they won't connect. The cord itself has a protective, braided outer and feels very sturdy.
Tumblr media
From top to bottom: the outside of both ends, the female end, and the male end.
The Instructions
The guidebook (also available as a PDF on their website) is beautifully designed, and clearly written. The parts diagrams are clearly photographed and labelled. I've found the instructions easy to follow, even with a scattered brain.
It includes:
getting started
fine tuning the tension
how to use the speed controller
a page of "handy tips"
how to change the bobbin
an RPM speed table
changing settings in the speed controller menu
maintenance
flat packing for travel
the Daedalus battery (purchased separately)
Daedalus' social media and contact details
The first page has a QR code that takes you directly to the Daedalus YouTube channel, where you can find videos on how to assemble and disassemble each model. My one quibble here is that the QR code takes you to the channel as a whole, rather than to the specific playlist for the model you bought. The videos themselves are short, to the point, and well shot with clear lighting and narration.
Also, the manual states that the speed controller has been limited to 50% max speed in the settings - mine wasn't. I've seen other folks on social media also say their controller wasn't speed limited for this model, so it's something to watch out for.
About that battery
Daedalus offer a battery bank that's designed to work with all their e-spinners (yay!). Unfortunately, due to issues with postage, they don't mail them outside the continental US (boo!).
While their website does say that they'll help you find a compatible battery that you can purchase in your country, this is complicated by the part where all their stuff runs on 15 volts. In Australia at least, 15v battery banks with a standard laptop cable input simply don't exist. I spent six weeks trying to find somewhere to buy a battery - I eventually gave up due to my brain frying any time I tried to look at listings.
While I'd like the option of a battery eventually (it would be much easier to set up in the back yard that way), for now I've made peace with needing to lug extension cords anywhere I want to spin.
Spinning Experience
So far I've only spun commercially prepared wools, so this won't be a thorough review of the Falcon's performance over a variety of fibres and preps. (I'll attempt that later, when I get the chance. And finer wool cards.)
Noise
It's quiet. Really quiet. At least two people at every guild meeting I've taken it to have commented on how quiet it is. Most of the noise comes from the flyer rotation, and considerably less from the motor. I'm quite sensitive to noise, especially higher pitches, so I was concerned about this. Luckily it hasn't been an issue. (If you're the sort of person who can hear electricity, it may bother you. I've lost that mysterious ability as I've aged, for the most part, so I can't say for sure.)
I have noticed that the noise changes/gets louder at speeds above about 70% - again, this is simply due to the fact that the flyer is turning at ~3,000+ RPM. At worst I have to turn the laptop up slightly to better hear the video I have playing. The breeze off the flyer sure helps with air circulation on a warm day, too.
Threading
The size of the hooks (loops, really) and the inner part of the orifice make threading a breeze. I do occasionally struggle with very fine, high twist threads, especially when I'm rethreading after a break. That's partly finding the right angle to hold the thread at so that it catches in the hook, and partly my fingers not always co-operating.This is the position I find works best for threading the orifice.
I wouldn't want to try it with a non-Daedalus orifice hook, though - there's quite a bend in the hook, and it's there for good reason. Luckily the Falcon body has magnets on it to always keep your hook nearby.
Tumblr media
The magnets + hook combo is great for holding the end of the thread when you're not spinning, too. I just wrap it around the middle of the hook a few times and stick it back on the magnets.
Take-up and tensioning
The take-up is wonderfully light, and can be ridiculously fine-tuned to match what you're spinning. When take-up drops below an acceptable level (once or twice per layer of bobbin filling), a tiny adjustment (less than a quarter turn) is usually enough to get things back on track.
I've filled four part-bobbins so far (two I'm still working on, one I ran out of fibre), at ~65 WPI, 45 WPI, and ~85 WPI. On each empty bobbin, I started with the spring completely compressed and the cord just barely tight/without slack. It took a few minutes of trial and error with each fibre to dial in the correct tension, but once I did, it was basically hassle-free for each spinning session thereafter.
That being said - I found correct tensioning quite tricky to dial in at first, because the hook and dial had shifted on their arms during shipping. If you put your wheel in something to travel with and find the tension is all screwy next time you go to spin, that's something to look at.
This circumstance isn't covered in the guide book, so it took me a while to work out why my "maximum tension" on the dial still wasn't enough to draw on the yarn I was spinning (it only became apparent about a third into the bobbin). Once I realised that the tension dial had rotated on the shaft in transport, I was able to reset it by simply rotating it back to a more vertical position.
{pic on blog}
This is an extreme example, but both the tension dial and the spring hook opposite it can rotate like this if you're not careful.
Starting/Stopping
At first I didn't think I'd need the foot pedal extension cord - surely I'd just be able to bop the controller on and off with my hand while I was spinning?
I was quickly disabused of this notion partway through my second bobbin. When things go wrong while spinning a 60 WPI single at 2,500 RPM, they go wrong fast. Being able to turn the Falcon off with my foot, while frantically trying to salvage whatever's gone wrong, is essential.
A really nice bonus to the foot pedal is that I'm not stuck in one position while spinning - I can sit, stand, rock from side to side, even crouch or kneel. I have back and shoulder problems and an old knee injury, so being able to freely change posture is a godsend for keeping my muscles happy.
And the soft stop/start - oh. my. Dog. I did not realise how much nicer my wheel spinning life could be. A soft stop is built in to spindle spinning by default, and I genuinely didn't realise how much I missed that on a wheel until I started spinning on the Falcon. I sing its praises whenever the thread breaks - the end stays loose and easy to find on top of the bobbin. No matter how gently I tried to stop my treadle wheel, more often than not the thread end would be buried somewhere in the hills and valleys on the bobbin, and there would be much swearing during retrieval.
Bobbin size
Daedalus advertises the Falcon bobbin as holding "two ounces (60 g) of 30 WPI singles". After plying a couple of bobbins of sock yarn with it, I would call this a conservative estimate. I managed to fit 70g of a 32 WPI, two-ply yarn on one bobbin - and it wasn't even well packed!
I've included a couple of in-progress bobbin shots, and what the singles on them currently measure/weight, below. None of them are even close to full, unfortunately - this is the order I spun them in, and right now I need to concentrate on the last one since it's due by December.
{pics on blog}
Sliver from Bendigo Woollen Mills. ~75 WPI, 31g. 19.5 micron merino top from Nundle Farms. ~82 WPI, 29g.  Handpainted 20 micron merino from Kathy's Fibres, ~82 WPI, 12g.
Final thoughts
This powerhouse is not for everyone. It's made for a specific purpose, and it fulfils that purpose beautifully. But it would probably suck at doing things it's not designed for.
While I'm sure you could spin 20 WPI or even 10 WPI singles with it, it won't do the job as well as an e-spinner designed for that. The other Daedalus offerings are worth a look, if you're not as into spinning frog hair as me.
But if you have a deep, abiding love for spinning lace-weight and finer yarns, this is an e-spinner worth looking at. Expensive though it was, it's one of the best fibre-related purchases I've made. (It easily beats the sewing machine and the overlocker combined.)
I'm definitely an outlier here - I have the not-at-all-typical goal of one day having a completely hand-spun, handwoven, and hand-sewn wardrobe. As such, production spinning is my jam - I want fine, high-twist yarns, that commercial mills simply can't replicate. And I want them as fast as my skills will let me go. With that in mind, the Falcon makes complete sense for my spinning goals.
Obligatory disclaimer: I'm not affiliated with Daedalus, and this post isn't sponsored (not that I'm against that, mind. This apprentice has to eat). All opinions are my own.

Would you ever work at a movie theater?  Probably not at this point of my life, no.
Do you have a phone charger in your car?  Yeah we have the adaptor that's specifically built for cars – it's just your typical Apple gatekeepy shit that makes me unable to charge my phone in the car because iPhone chargers have different cable requirements. I just bring a power bank to solve the problem.
Do you live far from your parents?  I live with them.
What was the last type of smoothie you drank?  I have never had a smoothie because I don't like fruits. The closest I ever got to having one was buying something from Jamba Juice once, but I got one of their non-smoothie items (a chocolate shake) HAHAHA.
Do you think you have a wide vocabulary?  I like to think so. The thing that is limiting, though, about PR and even journalism as a whole is the general rule that you must be able to write just well enough for a 4th grader to understand. That means I'm constantly sacrificing the vocabulary I do know because I'm kind of required to dumb everything down (I once got told off for using 'plethora' and I've stopped using it since lol).
Anyway, I try to compensate by just writing A LOT on here (i.e. overexplaining in my answers haha) and reading articles so I get to expand my vocab further and to learn more writing styles.
Describe your current position:  I just have my legs propped up. My laptop is balanced between my tummy and thighs.
Have you used a microwave today?  I have not.
What is your favorite mobile app?  Twitter, Instagram, Reddit, YouTube, Facebook.
Have you ever slept through an alarm?  Many times. I'm a terrible waker-upper(??).
Do you have lactose intolerance or know anyone who does? I am lactose intolerant but it has never stopped me before.
Can you go see a doctor alone or do you like to take someone with you?  I can.
Which household chore do you hate the most?  Folding laundry, particularly someone else's. I'm a bit of a germaphobe when it comes to other people's clothes, even if they are fresh out the washing machine.
Do you like pineapple on pizza?  No.
Do you like to hold hands?  Only with a significant other. I feel squeamish if a non-SO does it, even if they mean to be sweet/affectionate.
Will you sleep alone tonight?  Yes.
How do you feel right now? Relaxed and content. But omg my lower back and shoulders hurt. Nothing Katinko can't fix though hahaha.
What are your plans for tonight?  Eat all the shit I ordered from Dunkin' and maybe watch an episode of Run BTS to help lull me to sleep.
Do you want a tattoo?  I want them, but I'm not willing to get them.
Have you ever kissed the last person you text messaged?  Nopes.
Who was the last person you cried in front of?  Technically it was Celeste and Pau but I didn't show it. It was last Tuesday when PH won against New Zealand in the Women's World Cup. Who knew I'd be this invested in football??? LOL
Are your eyes the same color as your dad’s?  Yes.
Have you smoked a cigarette in the past 24 hours?  Nope.
Are you the youngest?  In the family? No.
What’s your favourite type of cake?  Cheesecake with a graham crust is just to die for.
Do you have any life changing plans within the next 6 months?  I wouldn't say so, no.
When’s the last time you played the board game Clue? I have never played it.

M.E.R.C.s - Location is Everything
4-12-890 AR
A heavy knocking came from the small pod’s door. The android occupant bolted forward in his seat as soon as he could complete an emergency quick boot. His cameras were still recalibrating as he approached his pod’s door, and after unplugging himself from the power cable he hurriedly put the clothes he’d hung by the door over his frame.
The pod was miniscule, consisting of a “hallway” just three meters in length, ending in a recessed alcove. The sole feature of the alcove, a seat with little padding, had a number of cables and plugs that allowed for an android to recharge and connect to the intranet from the convenience of their pod. Along the hallway and above the alcove there were a number of hatches that opened to shelves and cabinets for storage. Aside from these features the pod was quite barren, and of course cramped.
“Seer Eckord? You on? I wanted to get going sometime soon, you better be packed.”
Eckord cast his optics around the pod. What little that he owned was packed into a suitcase by the door and two cardboard boxes that were currently tucked away in a cabinet. The Divinist opened the door and greeted the two who had agreed to help him move.
The young human and the android looked at the mildly disheveled Eckord expectantly. Deckord’s sun-bleached faceplate looked stern, but the cybernetic eyes behind betrayed his hesitance.
“Eckord,” started the other android. “You are ready to get moving, right?”
“Yes yes, of course,” responded Eckord, pushing his suitcase towards his compatriots.
The shorter human pulled the suitcase towards himself. The human was only a boy, not even out of his teenage years. Evan Theos, if Eckord’s memory banks were referencing the right memory. He had been a faithful assistant, and if Evan continued being so helpful Eckord was considering elevating the messy-haired, scrawny boy to the station of tech-supplicant, to continue aiding him in holy endeavors.
The large labor android pushed his way past Eckord to grab the tech-seer’s boxed belongings. Accion’s large chassis made Eckord look like a pencil next to a steel girder, and the mono-eye android’s large manipulators were able to carry the priest’s belongings with ease. While not utterly militant, Accion usually wore surplus Machine Corps gear that had been bleached white, as few other pieces of clothing could accommodate his bulk.
“Ah, yes, thank you Accion, I was about to grab-”     “Look, Seer, I want to get you moved into my place before sundown,” Accion said before pausing. “Sorry to be brisk.”
Eckord accepted the apology as he readjusted his garments, attempting to look a bit less like he had gotten dressed in a hurry. The tech-seer’s chassis was on the thinner side, and the robes of his station came in sizes much more fit for humans. He probably should have had a tailor readjust them for his frame, but Eckord had put off the task since he had received the garments some decades ago.
Accion nudged the tech-seer from his now former residence. Eckord looked at the diminutive dwelling, one among the two dozen others built in stacked rows in the weed-choked lot. He had lived in this humble home for nearly three decades now, and despite how meager it was, he was sure that he would somehow miss it.
The three set off, crossing the span of the Hemotte Sector to reach the nearest metro-line station. While uneventful, Eckord took a final note of the sector he had occupied for some time now. It had definitely seen better days, but it was always hard to not think of the past through rose-tinted lenses. Before the pawn shops, gold lenders, and less-than-legitimate pharmacies had taken hold, Hemotte had been quite nice, really. A lot of young families had once walked the streets before they were cracked and pitted, and that was when the vacant lots here  had been parks.
Eckord led the way down the steps into the Hemotte station, his metallic feet clacking on the concrete steps. Evan struggled a bit to get the overstuffed suitcase down the stairs, but insisted on moving the luggage himself, without Accion’s help. Eckord admired the boy’s spirit. The android knew that Evan was also a good soldier, but a certain partition in his mind couldn’t help but question if his family forcing him into the brigade’s service was for the better. Part of his reason for hoping to induct the boy into the Divine clergy was to move him away from the life of a M.E.R.C., but Eckord knew that unless he did something that the mercenary’s way of life would have its hooks in him.
As they approached the graffiti’d subterranean platform Eckord noted some of the more colorful examples of language exhibited in the vandalism. He felt like every time he ventured out into Newland that he learned a new ethnic slur or curse word. The culture of the city-state, and the Capital language itself, moved at the flow of a rapid storm drain, while Eckord felt as though androids and the Divine Church moved at the speed of high-viscosity oil on a cold morning.
Rather than let himself be absorbed in quiet contemplation, Eckord engaged Evan in conversation, not wanting to waste the chance to learn of a younger human’s perspective on matters. He jumped from topic to topic, bringing up recent news from the last few years, prodding the Vatinsaran youth’s thoughts on each thing he could think of before moving on. The assassination of the president, the Holiday bombings, the resurgence of dangerous, decentralized movements like the Neo-Fasces and the Anti-Android Front. Eckord had his own ideas on the matters, but those mental processes, he knew, were quite removed from the thoughts of humans. Their conversation was cut short as their subway train arrived. Eckord saw what he swore was a fleeting look of relief on Evan’s face as he led the way onto the train car.
***
Besides the few punks that Accion scared off with a synthetic growl, the subway ride was relatively uneventful. Seeing brief slices of Newland as the train made its way from sector to sector was always an experience Eckord enjoyed. The crumbling underground of the Hemotte Sector. An elevated rail across a canal filled with boats. A much more well appointed subway station. The backlots of a number of industrial sectors. A quarantined sector blocked off by tall concrete barricades. A trainyard filled with freight. A packed parking lot feeding into a sports arena. Towering apartment buildings whose ground floors were stories beneath the subway’s elevated tracks.
The city just seemed to go on and on forever. Eckord knew that he could look at a Newland atlas, or even install a map implant, but the technical part of the equation didn’t matter, it was something he felt deep in the seat of his soul. Much of the Divinist faith spoke of the spirit of machines, and of Great Works, but the android wondered if Newland itself could be considered a Great Work. The city was hundreds of years old, by some reckonings, and it had been made by untold millions of hands over the course of generations, and even now it fostered life among its buildings, streets, and megastructures.
***
As Accion led Evan and Eckord out of the Bonville subway station, still carrying the tech-seer’s boxed possessions. Evan stopped as he finished pulling Eckord’s suitcase up the station’s stairs. He paused and sniffed the air.
“Do you smell that?” he asked, before realizing the company he was keeping.
“It smells like smoke,” Evan added, hoping to clarify his previous statement to the two androids that likely didn’t have olfactory senses.
All three of them looked up at the sky, to see a number of black plumes rising up into the late afternoon air. Eckord heard his large friend mutter a low-volume curse before setting off towards one of the columns of smoke. Not wanting to be separated from his belongings for too long Eckord set off after Accion, leading to Evan running after the two androids in short order.
After a short spree of jaywalking and ducking through a number of alleys Eckord caught up with Accion, just in time to see the hulking android sit down on the curb, across from a burned out warehouse. Eckord resisted a disapproving vocalization as Accion dropped his boxes to the sidewalk with little care.
“My…” started Accion. He couldn’t finish the vocalization, and Eckord followed his gaze.
The warehouse across the street was in ruins. The roof had collapsed in on itself, and the whole structure looked like it had been alight not all that long ago. It had been of a decent size, and what remained among the ruins was still smoldering. Eckord sighed. It seemed like both him and Accion were out of a home now.
“Should we see if there’s anything we can salvage? Maybe there’s, um…” Eckord trailed off as he realized how little could possibly remain among the charred metal and synthwood.
“Maybe. Deus willing,” replied Accion as he rose up from the curb, trudging into the wreckage.
Evan had just caught up with the androids, and Eckord ordered him to watch his belongings as the two picked through Accion’s ruined warehouse’s remains. Evan nodded gladly, running with the weighty suitcase had obviously been draining.
Eckord trotted across the street, following the path of the labor android, into the blackened, twisted wreck. Accion hadn’t gotten far into the warehouse, and he seemed to be transfixed by something in front of him. He started to discourage Eckord to come in further, but the tech-seer squeezed in past him.
In the middle of an open area flanked by charred ruin was an intensely obscene monument. Constructed from charred synthwood timbers and bones, an Infernalite sigil was laid in the middle of the clearing, surrounded by the blackened remains of five people. Their corpses were butchered and mostly incinerated, with their heads, now scorched beyond identification, placed in key positions around the vile offering.
Accion broke Eckord’s fixation on the heretical monument as he punched a crumbling brick wall in frustration.
“OF COURSE! Fucking of course it was Deus damned Infernals!”
Eckord hushed Accion, “Keep it down, who knows how many might still be around. We need to get going, now. We need to collect Evan, we need to get out of the sector.”
Barely finishing his sentence Eckord flung himself out of the ruin’s still standing front door, intent on reaching the young Divinist that he had left to watch his belongings. Last rites for the deceased would have to wait until the living were attended to. The android seer realized with horror, as he reached the burned curb, that the youth had a small group of black-clothed people surrounding him. At least one of them was a devilkin, and another bore the skull mask of an Infernalite temptor. Eckord powered towards Evan, before he himself was sent flying.
The tech-seer only realized what was happening a few moments after it had happened, when he was laying on the pavement of the street he was trying to cross. A car horn was blaring. Eckord tried to pick himself up, but he realized that the hinge of his right arm’s elbow was bent back in the wrong direction. The vehicle’s driver, a chimera woman, was leaning out of the window of the car, with an expression between annoyance and concern written on her features. Helping Evan once more rose to the top of Eckord’s task priorities as he clumsily got to his feet. The boy was still surrounded by the Infernalites but the lot of them were quite distracted by the spectacle that had occured out on the street, making them focus on Eckord.
“Oh man, another priest!” cried one of the Infernalites, his voice dripping with eager malice. The Infernalite was a human with a shaved head and a tattoo of a Hellish glyph that covered most of his face. He stepped out onto the street as he approached Eckord, pulling out a wickedly curved knife.
The thug held the knife aloft, calling out to the Hellish power that he’d contracted, “INFERNUS IN MACH-”
He didn’t get to finish his invocation, as a fist the size of his own head knocked him out cold. Accion had charged out of the ruined warehouse, as he had lingered behind Eckord by a few moments. The Infernalite first collided with the hood of the car that had hit Eckord before collapsing to the ground in front of it. The chimera woman within the car seemed irate, but knew better than to get involved with the religious conflict unfolding in front of her.
The other Infernalites, including the priest, were quite startled by the sudden appearance of the enormous android, and even more so by his dynamic entry upon the scene. Accion approached them, kicking their unconscious comrade out of the middle of the street, making him collide with the door of a parked car. The thug’s body left a dent.
The Infernalists were almost frozen in terror as the hulking Divinist strode closer, with each one backing away as though they were moving in slow-motion. Eckord shuffled off the road, sticking to the sidelines as he watched Accion bear down on the Infernalites. The larger android was getting heated, which was bad for anyone standing in his way. Evan was sitting still, letting the Infernalites back off as Accion approached. He looked unharmed, but was unsurprisingly a bit wary of the situation unfolding around him. The human met eyes with the seer’s cameras. Eckord gave him a small thumbs up with his still functioning hand. Evan grimaced in return.
Accion charged at the Infernalites, before stopping at the curbside to wrench a parking meter out of the ground. The thugs ran down a nearby alley, which partially spared them the android’s wrath, until he flung the piece of metal after them. Eckord didn’t see the impact but he heard a heavy clang and a yelp as it hit at least one of the fleeing demon-worshippers.
Eckord approached Evan, and the boxes of his belongings.
“Let’s get moving. I don’t want to find out if they have more friends loitering about the sector.”
Accion lifted the seer’s property once more, “I’m not scared of any of these low-lifes. But I don’t want either of you two being fried like those poor bastards in the warehouse, so where are we going?”     Evan piped up, “Well we could go to my family’s place. Mom and dad run a motel, I’m sure they’d be willing to start a tab for you guys. We’re just three sectors over, it’ll be quick if we ride the subway again.”
The androids were already moving, with the young human pushing his way in front of the two of them.
“That sounds perfect, private. I think that will do well enough for the two of us in the interim.”
    “Yeah, thanks kid.”
***
Eckord stared at the motel’s ceiling. Evan was a kind boy, but his parent’s motel left a bit to be desired. His monthly stipend from the Divine Church and the bullion he made from working for the 3rd Illigan Brigade was more than enough to pay for the motel room, but he was already missing his tiny pod. The noises of the other rooms, the bold vermin, and the beds obviously made for non-androids were all annoying him greatly. Eckord had never understood why organics loved when their beds were plush and smothering, and he still couldn’t see the appeal as he lay on top of the one provided for him.
The seer shifted to his one side, looking at Accion sprawled out on the bed next to him. He was deep in his recharge cycle, and seemed less bothered by the accommodations than he was. Then again the huge M.E.R.C. had lived in a warehouse before this evening, so it was likely that little bothered him in general.
Eckord rose and approached the window, looking out into the Newland night. Even when viewed from a rundown motel the city’s anima was so strongly apparent to him. The lodgings were far from ideal, but they were in the midst of the Crossroad City, so Eckord could hardly complain.

My Rechargeable Light Tube review (w/ my paper dolls) - Full [Nov 15th, 2022]
Hi! Here's my item review this November (2022), and for the first time, I decided to make a full review in one sitting post.🪑🙂
So, this is my full review of the Rechargeable Light Tube (featuring my Paper Dolls).💡⚡🙂
BTW: If you haven't watch my revealing parcel for this particular item, then please [CLICK ME!].
So, without further ado, let's get started:
1st & 2nd Image(s): ↑
• Here's the box itself. Now, I've already tackled some unnamed brands before, so I'm assuming that this is "Made in China". 🇨🇳 But hey, we can't live without an item that is made from it, right? My paper doll says "probably". 🙂
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
3rd to 5th Image(s): ↑
• Out of the box, here's the main item along with other accessories, such as two adhesive magnetic patches that I can stick to a nonmetal wall, and a short (generic) micro USB cable. Here's a closer look at the 5th Image.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
6th to 10th Image(s): ↑
• Now, let's take close look at the main item.
• [6th & 10th Images] Here, there are two mini magnetic pieces on each side, which I can stick to any metal walls or beams, or even the aforementioned adhesive metal round stickers onto the wall or ceiling (depending on my choice).
• [7th & 8th Images] On the other side, there's a micro USB port where I can charge my tube via either a power bank (in case the electricity was blackout) or a USB wall charger. Plus, there's a hidden lock where I can hook at any place.
• [9th Image] And lastly, the power button. Where I can turn on the light, as well as 5 different modes 🖐 by pressing it 🔘. Which, I'll show you that in a bit.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
11th to 13th Image(s): ↑
• Comparison time! Here, I have my old functional Xiaomi LED Light Enhanced Edition & their heights differ from front to back. When it comes to the side, my Xiaomi LED light E.E. is very slim and bendable. In fact, my paper dolls say that they prefer my old Xiaomi LED light for true portability, although it requires a power bank. Whereas my tube light, it has a built-in battery of 2600 mAh (40W) capable of usage for up to 8 hours. Hmmm... That sounds promising, but is it true? I'll keep an updated, soon.
Recorded video 🎦📲 (edited using Wondershare Filmora): ↑ (Pls watch my video)
⚠️FAIR WARNING⚠️: Strobing lights may cause seizures!
• Alright, it's testing time! In my first part, I try to turn it but it won't work. So now, I'll charge it with my included short cable, my trusty genuine Romoss power bank 🔋⚡, and also my USB multitester to see the stats. Once that, my tube light started to charge, and as you can see from the stats from my multitester it has a low milliamp albeit upside down (0.064A). While it's charging, I'm testing the power button & here you can see I toggle the switch in 5 different modes albeit a low light. Hang on, let me turn off the living room light.
• Alright, on my second part, where the light turns off & here you finally see what I'm talking about. The first three modes are the light adjustments, from high, to medium, and then low. Whereas other two are strobing lights (once again, pls be warned ⚠️), and SOS morse code light, both of which are for emergency purposes 🚨. Here, you could see I'm doing another comparison with my Xiaomi LED Light E.E. & it seems my old Xiaomi Light has brighter than my tube light's low energy. Yeah, that doesn't seem right. Maybe I'll be charged with my wall charger this time. It won't take a while, so give me a minute.
• Alright, so now my light tube has half charged, and here's what it looks like in the dark. More brighter than before. Here, once again I'm doing a comparison for the third time, and it seems that my tube light had taken over (or something), well you know what I'm mean. Uh yeah, I forgot to mention that I can stick my tube light onto that metal bar beside my gaming keyboard thanks to their built-in magnetic pieces.
• As for the weight of the tube light (and built quality), it's quite light on the other side & on the other has little heft to it. And that's because there's a single battery inside. To be honest, this is quite okay. I wish the battery inside should go in the center to make it balance, but that's my preference. And if you're curious to see what it looks like, then there's a Youtube video about it → [CLICK ME!].
BTW: Uh yeah, I almost forgot. While the design itself doesn't match nor advertise as their pictures, at least their features are very identical.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
14th & 15th Image(s): ↑
• Finally, here's what it looks like when my tube light can hook up at any place while the light turns on. 🪝💡
Overall & Price:
• This is a solid simple tube light for emergency purposes 🚨 or going out for a night camping 🏕️. You may require a power bank, in case you need to charge though, otherwise, it has a 2600mAh (40W) built-in battery 🔋💡 which should be lasted. So take my word for it if you're friends/families want it to go a long way journey 🛣️🚐.
• As for the asking price, I bought it from Lazada PH 🛒🌐🇵🇭 for ₱106 (roughly $1.85) 🏷️ without a shipping fee, and that's the 40 Watt variant. Because there are three different sizes of tube light with their respective watts, the small one has 20 Watts, the medium one was 40 Watts that I have, and lastly the long one has 60 watts. You can choose either 3 or 5 modes depending on their price range, so I ended up with the 40 Watts with 5 modes for only ₱106, which is very cheap & a decent quality look. And this seller right here offers a Buy 1 Take 1 for double the cost → [CLICK ME!]. So, is it worth it? Well, they're not for everyone, but in case you want them for your own personal, then I have no problem buying that tube light. 😊
Well, that's the end of my topic!
And you haven’t seen my previous topic, then I’ll provide some links down below. ↓😉
