two people come to a realisation that day: one with joy, the other with sorrow. both are doomed by their realisation.
thinking about the idea that wolfwood just gets so devastated how vash, someone he cares about so much, could treat himself like that, and gets overwhelmed by the realisation that he can't do anything to stop him. how he loves this person but he can't do anything about it. how he loves this person and he can't do anything about it either.
and then there's vash who completely on the opposite end—found someone who cares enough for him when he doesn't anymore, and he can't do anything to stop it. it's too late, he knows it, the person will now shed tears in his stead.
(he realises it's too late to stop him, or himself. the gears on the clock turns again. and again. and again. it never strikes.)

it is unbelievable to me that fascism is such an infectious ideology in our modern time. even people whose great grandparents were directly murdered by colonialism and white supremacy engage in it

skk nation I have made a harrowing discovery.
last year, skk was number 4 on the top 100 ships of ao3 for 2023. when they catalogued the numbers, our boys had around 24k total fics, with about 6k new fics being added that year (new fics is what determines placement on the list). we did great last year :D let’s go gang.
BUT. pause. the list came out on august 7th, 2023. BEFORE the end of s5 and the whole debacle there.
due to this, the list cut off RIGHT before the absolute surge of fics from that. you add on the 15 manga and maybe stormbringer being animated this year, and BOY HOWDY. it’s been six months since the 2023 list and we’ve already surpassed what we wrote last year (we have like 31k fics now,,)
currently predicting either 2nd or 1st for skk in 2024. there’s already like 7k new fics and unless people start putting out ai fics to climb the ranks (please don’t do this ever) I don’t see any ship that could hold us back. skk is officially taking over ao3 and I cannot wait to see it happen.

"Padre nuestro, que estás en los cielos..."
Buck tries to open his eyes. they hurt too much, so he barely groans. he's moving, but he's not walking. how is he...?
"Santificado sea tu nombre..."
That voice... Buck knows that voice. He tries to move his legs, but they seem to be apart. there's something moving between them.
"Venga tu reino. Hágase tu voluntad-"
"Eddie," Buck groans, and he can hear his husband gasp. He can't open his eyes, but he wants to see him. Where are they? "Ed, what-"
"The building almost collapsed, I don't think it will take a lot longer for it to go," Eddie lets out a big breath, and now Buck can feel his lips against his cheek, repeatedly kissing him. He finally realizes: Eddie's carrying Buck on his back. "How are you? Anything hurts?"
"Legs, a litte bit," he coughs and his eyes open without permission. there's barely any light, probably sun light from where the debris is piling and letting small particles of light enter. they- "We were in the basement- How did we-?"
"I have no idea, but we're alive. And I'm getting us out of here, okay?"
"Christopher-" Buck sighs. Chris must be waiting for them. they were supposed to have greek food tonight. They watched Percy Jackson last week and Chris had gone on a tangent, searching any kind of information about greek gods, then about Greece...
"I'm gonna get us to him, okay?" Eddie presses another kiss to his head and turns towards his front again. "Don't you worry."
A few minutes pass like that, Eddie moving them through the debris and unstable floor. He's murmuring something Buck can't understand, so he must be speaking spanish.
"What- What are you saying?" Buck asks softly.
Eddie stops for a second and sighs. "It's a prayer. Im praying"
Buck smiles softly. "I didn't have you for a religious guy."
"Im not," his husband says through his teeth. he's trying to move some rock. "But you weren't responding. I- I needed to talk to somebody."
"Do you think he will hear you?" Buck asks softly a few minutes later.
Eddie scoffs. "I hope this is the only thing he ever hears me say."
