[We marinate it 24 hours. We're heating this to a precise temperature -- 82.2 Celsius. Now you submerge this slow -- super-slow-cook it for seven hours. Yes. And then when we bring it out of the sous-vide, we'll cool it.]

We have also just finished a replay of Pokemon Super Mystery Dungeon. We highly recommend playing this game! We are being attacked by a game that we last beat several years ago when it first came out, where we went in knowing nothing of the story and went out having been dealt a physical blow to our heart. Very fun game. For legal reasons how to obtain it is A Mystery For Sure but you should play it.

Physicists have carried out precise calculations based on this proposal, and generated predictions for how the microwave radiation's temperature should vary from place to place across the sky, as illustrated in Figure 11.1a.
Tumblr media
In Figure 11.1b, these predictions are compared with satellite observations, represented by little diamonds, and as you can see there is extraordinary agreement.

s. s ave me, meoto…
#n o t me clinging to meoto to retain my sanity bc g o o d l o r d today was the worst#today was truly a very bad; very horrible day indeeeeeeed#man. today truly was a comedic tragedy in every way possible. i’d laugh if i were anyone else tbh#first i couldn’t start my workstation bc we were out of this cleaning acid thing.#t h e n this other branch lab sent over a precise amount of [reagent] that we needed to make the cleaning acid thing#*and* what’s worse was that they also demanded like. 1/5 of the acid we mixed. like bro. make it yourself mans.#but the worst part was when i tried to use a dropper to poke this sediment out of [tube i was supposed to be cleaning]#bUT THEN HALF OF THE DROPPER MELTED BC THAT BUGGER CAN’T HANDLE HIGH TEMPERATURES AAAAAAAAAAAAAA#stupid new droppers man. the old droppers could handle 100 degrees just fine. s o now the tube is clogged with melted plastic and it’s just.#life’s *really* great sometimes yk~~~~? (ʘ‿ʘ)#and so the night shift dude who came to take over the workstation against expectations seemed kinda pissed that i hadn’t started anything#and im just there. with my intestines wriggling about like internal abdominal worms. tryin not to cry in the face of my mistake.#while he’s fumin’ away like a freakin’ chimney or sth. like. man. no one asked you to take this workstation. you came here on your own. :(#anyway i ditched him and left for my break to calm myself down only to be approached by some random terribly lost middle aged to old lady#who was looking for directions to *somewhere* but she only spoke chinese aaaaaaaa#and i can’t read maps/i don’t even live in the area of my workplace so i have no idea if the lady managed to make it safely#but. lol. the lady showed me her message screen when she asked me for directions to her destination#and by pure coincidence the person she was texting is apparently related to someone with the same first name as me#the cons and cons of having common names man. i hope the lady managed to find her friend with the same name as me though lol#anyways. pls hw im begging. pls drop the crossfade for lxl birthday tmr i n e e d more meoto to carry on—#s o b s this is what im living for now ig. meoto………..

my brain is very gone. i cannot read questions but i wanna participate. what’s your fav kind of tea? how do you take your tea?
ooh i love a lot of types of tea so i could never pick a single favorite. i'd say for a single (though often large) cup of hot tea my preference is usually for something strong and fruity. i like herbal blends with hibiscus, peaflower, rosehip etc and/or dried fruit pieces, although this year i've really been enjoying a couple of fruity white or green tea/herbal blends. i love these hot and either unsweetened or with just a drop of honey. this is also usually what i take in my thermal mug to campus bc it doesn't easily suffer from overbrewing so i can brew it in the morning at 9am and have a still-hot cup of tea to drink in rehearsal at 6pm. although occasionally i'll take something black to drink as a single cup; my preference is usually for something strong and spiced, with a bit of cream and lightly sweetened. but if i'm sitting down for an hour or two and enjoying a whole pot of tea, i'm usually drinking either one of the fruit/tea blends or i'm drinking an oolong, no sweetener. i have this WONDERFUL oolong in my cabinet right now from a regional teashop i love that's scented with grape and blackberry and it's got the most well rounded, juicy body to it -- if i had to pick a single favorite it might be that but it's expensive and small batch so i try to save it for when i can really sit down and enjoy it.
as for iced teas: love a cold fruity or hibiscus tea, barely sweet; black tea, strong and lightly sweet, especially with milk (a la boba shop milk tea or chai latte); LOVE an arnold palmer (half unsweet tea/half lemonade); and whatever the hell they put in diet snapple, i could go through cases of that shit all by myself in no time flat.
basically the only teas i don't really like are anything minty, chamomile, and plain green teas and matcha. although i'm recently becoming a convert to the joys of jasmine tea. besides it just tasting good what i love about tea is that there's just So Much out there that there's always something new to try and fall in love with

Amaury Guichon makes all of that chocolate willy wonka miracles of science and art and cuisine in a temperature controlled incredibly high tech room that can barely be described as a kitchen using chocolate us mere mortals have absolutely no access to. We all know we can’t do that but ya gotta fully comprehend whyyyyy

"Boil water to turn fan" as if multistage steam turbine generators are not one of the sexiest kinds of machines every made
Tumblr media
Tumblr media
nuclear power is impressive until you get up to why. "we use the most precisely engineered machinery ever created to split atoms to release energy" oh yeah how come? "boil water to turn a fan" get the fuck out
#its genuinely crazy the math and engineering that go into making these absolutely massive steam turbines#its an incredible balancing act to optimize between the interconnected variables of pressure velocity and temperature in order#to extract as much energy as possible from the steam as it moves through the system#especially like. those generators need to maintain a very precise rotational speed in order to prevent the coupled generator#from going out of phase with the power grid#(3000 RPM for 50 Hz grids and 3600 RPM for 60 Hz grids)#like the reactor part sounds like a lot of engineering work (and it is!) but like. the turbine is fucking incredibly impressive too#each one of those turbine stages needs to have very specifically shaped blades in order to control steam pressure drop and steam velocity#and the blades need to be able to physically handle being in a wet (at least for nuclear plants where the steam is pretty wet) high temp#environment and constantly being spun at high rotational speeds for decades at a time.#we had to develop specialized nickel titanium superalloys with tightly controlled crystalline structures in order to build turbines this big#stare into the depths of “wow we really just use steam to spin a big fan that sounds simple” and you encounter#the lifes work of thousands of mathematicians computer engineers material scientists and mechanical engineers#the first device we could call a steam turbine was made as a toy in tthe first century ancient greece and egypt#the first steam turbine with a practical use was described in 1551 in Ottoman Egypt. it was used to turn a spit of meat over a fire.#the first modern multistage impluse steam turbine was made in 1884 and revolutionized electricity generation and marine propulsion#in the 141 years since there have been more improvements than one could even list#from major design changes credited to great men to miniscule efficiencies and optimizations gained from tweaking the composition of an alloy#idk. i think its beautiful to think about the web of human knowledge woven collectively by thousands of hands across history#could you imagine what the ancient greek engineers who first put together the prototype for an aeolipile would think to see what we have#made now. could they even recognize our designs as belonging to the same category of object as their little toy#anyway#appreciate the humble steam turbine with the same eye you give to the reactor core#mine#just my thoughts

Oh so this is why I like to bake, its the simple pleasure of following arcane instructions and at the end I get brownies instead of a spell explosion
the funniest dynamc between my boyfriend and i is the chef/baker divide runs so deep. experimentally my boyfriend is a genius with figuring out what flavor profiles will not just taste good together but also will be enjoyed by the specific audience he is cooking for. a recipe is not a guidebook so much as a suggestion and he will frankenstein ideas together to get exactly what he wants to happen. he also didnt know that sugar will not work properly if you dont mix it with the wet ingredients in banana bread and when i asked 'why didnt you do it in the order of the recipe' he said 'i didnt really think it mattered'. autistically i exploded his head in my mind
