I think it’s safe enough to finally talk publicly about it.

Basically the vday video was a video Phil made for Dan for Valentine’s Day. He uploaded it privately onto his YouTube channel which Dan had the password to so Dan could see it. At this time, Dan was on vacation (pretty sure in India) and he wouldn’t have been able to see a video of that quality just through text or email. Shitty luck, the same time he privately uploaded it, infamous YouTube glitch happened where all private videos became public. And one of the videos that went public was the v day video.

There’s a lot of jokes about Dan in 2012, but it’s actually really depressing. Dan wasn’t out yet and he had a fuck ton of trauma surrounding his sexuality. 2012 is when dnp started blowing up enough to where they became part of popular early YouTube so people saved the v day video when it was uploaded.

They’ve only addressed it a few times in which they said it was an April Fool’s prank, which obviously doesn’t make sense, but what were they supposed to say? According to legend, people would keep reuploading the video and Phil would spend hours taking them down one by one and it would say “AmazingPhil took down this video for copyrite.”

It was a catalyst to just a really shitty period for dnp. All aggressively heterosexual clips from Dan’s liveshows are my 2012. “FYI I like vagina” is 2012. People were contacting his 14 year old brother to ask about him and Phil. That alone is both fucked up to drag a kid into this, but remember that Dan still wasn’t out to his family. It was probably so fucking terrifying when his YouTube life, especially regarding his sexuality and relationship, clashed with his family life for the first time.

There’s a noticeable difference between their relationship in videos from 2009-2011 and 2012-2015. And it is most likely because dnp blew up pretty big in 2012 and started going from making YouTube videos for fun to doing it as a job with the added pressure of millions watching. And the catalyst, or at least metaphorical catalyst, from the switch between being openly touchy feely giggles to strict, five feet apart mates is considered to be the vday vid.

It was a big problem in the phandom since it was leaked to around 2017ish. A lot of people were circulating it and word was that they were still being taken down years later, implying that Phil was still searching for the video years later.

The phandom used to be primarily 12-16 year olds. And when you’re that age, speaking from experience, you don’t understand the complexities of the situation and just kinda thought “teeheehee phan is real XD.” When in reality, it was a very sensitive and serious thing that wasn’t meant to ever be seen by the public. It’s literally where the cherry lube and kissing at the Manchester Eye reference is from.

Rightfully so, the video became more and more taboo to mention and most people caught on that it was a shitty thing to upload or share it. It used to be really taboo and affectionately was often referred to as “the video that shall not be named.”

It honestly has a backstory that is so story-like that it seems unreal. So much had to happen for it to be leaked and the impact it had on them was so large it’s like a black hole in phandom history.

It’s possible not all of this is accurate, this is just the basic lore of it. So while I don’t think the internet police will drag you to prison for saying you watched the vday video, this is the context behind it. Do with it what you will.

Spending your entire preteen, teen, and now 20s as a phannie will fry your brain in unimaginable ways. I knew this off the top of my head😭

FTH Fanbinding: "Disrespect" 'verse by Khashana

And here is my last fanbinding for the FTH crafts bazaar! @khashanakalashtar won one of the raffles and decided on having their own fic bound, a series of 12 parts for Avatar: The Last Airbender. I’m unfamiliar with the fandom; I know some basics like a few characters’ names and the elemental bender thing but that’s about it. But when I read the fic, I found that it didn’t matter all that much because it was a modern AU and was really enjoyable even without knowledge of the show!

As it’s set at Bryn Mawr College, I decided to use that as a bit of a throughline for the design, because it definitely was easier than trying to find many fitting pictures from ATLA where I often can’t even tell if it’s official promo or fanmade stuff. XD

The design for the cover was quite clear early on. Khashana had said that they’d like the colour red for the case (fitting, as Zuko is the central character), and so I settled on this lovely Duo bookcloth. Depending on how the light hits it, the linen looks either red or slightly orange as it mixes threads of different colour.

This was the first time I tried a full linen case and it worked super well! I had no problems and no creases, so I’m very happy that it was quite easy to do, actually. 

I didn’t want to go yet again for the red/gold type of cover, so I decided to write the title with blue, as Katara and Sokka are also heavily featured in the fic and they're colour-coded blue. *g*

For endpapers, I kept to Zuko’s colours, basically. I think it looks appropriate. Same with the ribbon and headbands.

The typesetting, ohhh boy. This took me the longest out of all the books, because I’d gotten it into my head to keep to the 12-part-structure (instead of, say, making chapters out of the parts). That meant that I wanted to make a little title page for each part. Which also meant doing graphics. Lots of them. T_T

Khashana had done graphics for all the fics/podfics, but not all of them worked for this book as they of course came from the show. So I used a few of them, doing some editing to get them to the right size, and then went hunting for more. I settled on a mix of edited photos of the college (like the houses that are mentioned in the fics) and edited screenshots of the characters that did a least look slightly like it could be a modern setting. *g* In any case, I tried to find a connection to the fic when choosing the graphic.

I also added little graphics at the beginning of each part that illustrated something from it in one way or another, sometimes basically repeating the title page, sometimes choosing a different image. 

Halfway through these edits, I was like, "OMG this takes forever, I should've just gone with a text-based title page." T_T But now I was committed! XD

I also added their current map to the book as I really liked how it looked.

I think the book came out really well in the end and it’s a well-rounded concept, but wow, did it take me a while. XD

Anyway, I’m very pleased with this book! :D

TMNT Donatello x reader

"Look Donnie all I'm saying is you don't need that many pop tarts.." I look over at Donnie who was still shoving all the boxes of pop tarts from the shelf into the cart.

Donnie turns to glare at me

"We saved him. He said help yourself. I'm doing just that!" He turned back to throwing every single box into the cart which was now overflowing.

I let out a sigh. If you can't beat 'em join 'em.

"I'll get another cart."

"Thank you!"

I walked to the front of the store and grabbed another cart. Giving the owner of the store a sympathetic look, because Donnie as clearing their store of pop tarts. I finally made it back to aisle Donnie was in and let out a laugh at the sight before me.

There lay Donnie on the floor covered in pop tart boxes and the cart lay next to him on it's side.

"Well I see you couldn't wait to dig in!" I laughed harder as he grumbled.

"What was that?" I asked again as I stepped away from the cart towards him.

"Raph pushed the cart and it fell on me!" He cried out and I chortled before moving the boxes off of him.

He sits up slowly and the boxes fall around him and fixes his glasses before looking at me

"Thank you for freeing me."

"No problem, but why all the pop tarts anyway?"

"oh..well you said they were your favorite snack when your over and I wanted to make sure you had a lot of your favorite snack.."

"Donnie that's so sweet!" I cooed at him before pulling him into me. Passionately kissing him before pulling away.

"Well then let's finish collecting pop tarts." I stand from the floor wiping off any dirt that could have clung to my bottoms.

"Well now I don't wanna... can't you give me one more kiss." Donnie whined standing up. Holding onto my arm.

"Okayy just one more!" I smiled before kissing him again.

"My god he's so whipped." Raph let out a laugh turning to his other brothers.

"Leave him be Raph." Leo glared at Raph before turning to look back at y/n and Donnie.

"Yeah he's happy!" Mikey added on.

"I'm gonna throw more pop tarts on him." Raph began walking towards Donnie.

"Wait I want to help!" Mikey shouted following after his brother.

"No! Leave him alone!" Leo shouted out chasing after them.

Did someone ask for more radio stations? XD Right, so let me tell you--I've not only added more radio stations, but I also updated a few of them as well as having made "add-on" versions to a few of the stations. Add-on stations are "added on" to the already existing stations in Sims 3: Soul, Disco, Spooky, Pop, Latin, and Electronica. Only three of these need base game, so you're fine there. However, 70's, 80's, & 90's Stuff is required for the Disco station (( I will leave 'NuDisco' up for those without it )), Ambitions is required for 'Soul', and Movie Stuff is required for 'Spooky' (( again, will leave the 'Harvest' station up for those without this pack )). And maybe it will work if you don't have the pack--can anyone confirm this? Also, if you want me to make a separate station for 'Soul', please let me know. New stations include: Alternative, University Rock, METAL, Romance, and Talk Radio. The "Romance" station is not pictured in the above because, for some reason, I never made it originally? Like... why didn't I ever do that? XP Honestly, I thought I had. Apparently not, and when I was testing the other stations out, I was in the middle of making the 'Romance' station. Uma's crew's 1st week at Auradon prep hc ?

So, immediately they ran into a problem. What were they gonna do for Valor? Auradon Prep has many things but a daycare is not one of them. And well.....there was no fucking way they were going to just not have a plan. Ben made a hasty deal with a nearby daycare that she could be dropped off during school hours. (And Fairy Godmother quietly added a parenting class onto his schedule which was probably for the best).

Computers! Science stuff! Oh, Gonzo and Vince are having fun. Should they be left alone in the labs? Probably not. XD

Desiree starts charging for her art pretty fast. She's good at commissions.

Family Day was. A well meant disaster. That call was NOT a fun one, even without Desiree hiding behind the tv because she'd really rather Shan-Yu think she's dead. Him knowing she's not was....not fun. Gonzo ended up turning off the call after that.

Bonny would have a lot of fun doing sports. She might also get into a fight if someone told her she couldn't but I'm assuming there's girl's sports teams too. She'd have to for ROAR though. She and Lonnie can scheme together.

I think they'd get along alright with Lonnie. I'm assuming her heart still breaks when she learns their parents suck. It feels awkward for Desiree but she means well.

Rosita is probably the one Chad targets for homework help. And that's okay because she's using him too - she wants closer to Ben and if Ben has a girlfriend, maybe dating his best friend works.

Uma starts off more distrusting of Ben but he just....keeps checking in to see if they're doing okay. The help with Valor got him some points too. As she realizes he genuinely does want to help, she starts to be more open to the people in Auradon. She still plans to steal the wand though. That's not gonna change.

FOOD. The crew wolf food down. They need to be careful not to get sick. XD

Drey is....terrified of dogs so yeah, she's avoiding Dude like the plague. It's something Ben will feel bad about once he learns why and how she lost her hand but that's probably not a 'first week' talk.

Fighting It Out

There was more lead up to this but fuck it we jump straight in. That's how I do shit XD. My break is over 😭. And I am academically fucking suffering. Let them go crazy. Ian towered over Elliot. Partially extended arm reached out towards the fellow deer morpher. A wrapped fist against his side. The other wrap cautiously wrapped over one of his branching antlers.

Elliot bounced on his toes. Shoes tossed aside to expose wrapped ankles. Socks grass stained. Both forearms shielding his face.

"Sure you want to settle this with a fight?" Elliot questioned.

"Better than going to the elder morphers," Ian grumbled.

Elliot rolled his eyes, but he agreed. The elder morpher's would take too long. And he didn't want to add any unnecessary stress to the bear morpher.

"One of us has to speak to them anyway," Elliot tilted his head looking into the fellow deer morpher's bright blue eyes.

Elliot felt himself shudder. He wished Ian's hair was down so he at least had some sort of barrier between them.

"And it's going to be Saz or you. This isn't a me problem. I don't understand why you're even dragging me into this."

"And you fucking wonder why Saz hates you," Elliot grumbled.

Ian rolled his eyes. Hate was an exaggeration. Though Saz was particularly good at giving Ian a cold shoulder. And this fight definitely wouldn't help his case. His ear flicked in the direction of Julie's approach. The hagfish morpher sitting off to the side as she pulled meat off of the charred skewer with her teeth.

Ian couldn't help but grin playfully slapping Elliot's block knowing it would annoy him, "Snack break over?"

"Stop shit talking." Julie spoke through her mouthful, "Go!"

The taller deer morpher took a step forward. Keeping an arm extended. His palm pushing harshly against Elliot's block.

Elliot's block pushed back against Ian's hand. Swerving aside quickly. Grunting when Ian's wrapped fist collided with the side of his head. Successfully dodging Ian's hastily returning fist. He shuffled back, putting space between them.

Elliot shifted his weight onto one foot, his body swiveling to the side. He partially throws out a foot his shin painfully meeting Ian's suspecting fist. Elliot retracts his foot in a wide sweeping motion. Planting his toes into the grass. The heel of his opposing foot landing a bit high into Ian's side. His block dropping as his torso swung lower.

Ian grit his teeth with a loud grunt. Elliot's heel crashing into one of his ribs. Ian took advantage of the lowered block. His hand grasping tauntingly at Elliot's face. Fist hitting right between Elliot's brows. And again into Elliot's side.

Elliot's head whipped back. The unexpected hits forcing his knee to buckle beneath him. Painfully holding himself up with a shaky leg.

He popped up. Bouncing breathlessly on his toes. He moved around another jab, aimed at his bruising side. The far smaller deer morpher grunting as he forced his knee into Ian's side. Cursing when a persistent fist and palm pounded against Elliot's block.

Elliot lifted his foot, pushing hard against Ian's thigh. Forcing space between them again. Fist whizzing past Elliot's face.

A Bit of a Conundrum

I've been waffling about this for a long time, and as I've already vented about it to my discord, I wanted to open it up to a possibly larger audience of my readers. And also complain about it more. XD I write. A lot. I have. A LOT of writing. We're talking like more than 2 dozen wips sitting in my google docs, some with 14k, some with 114k words in them. Some with a specific ending in mind, some with no plot beyond what's already written. Fuck dude, some aren't even Sterek/TW! I was fortunate enough to have someone go on my ko-fi and do a monthly donation to me for a few months. They stopped, which I'll never be mad at, but having them there at all, having someone say "I'd like to support your writing just for the sake of supporting it" meant a huge amount to me, and it made me think about all of my wips.

I don't post often, or regularly, or..well at all, for months and months at a time. This is because I almost only ever post fics when they're done. it's a personal rule of mine, and not one I used to follow when i first started writing fic. It's one I came up with shortly after finishing "Wanted" bc I felt terrible and pressured when I had to take breaks during that fic and when I couldn't keep up with a regular schedule for people. And for a long time it was a good rule for me. It helped me not to feel pressured or overwhelmed by the worry of abandoning a project on ao3 and getting bombarded with comments asking where the next chapter is. But as I've continued writing over the years, my wips have gotten more numerous, while my posted work continues to trickle in. I'm a chronic long-fic writer (though my currently posted fics don't reflect that), which means it takes way more time for me to finish a fic than it does for me to get distracted coming up with a NEW idea for a fic. It's hard to finish work. But that doesn't mean I don't love my wips. They're incredible. Some of them contain some of the best stuff I feel I've ever written. Poignant words and phrases and meaningful moments. And looking around at them, I realized that anyone who goes to support me on my ko-fi, or considers following me on Ao3, or even just subscribes to a series, isn't really getting to see what I"m actually doing. They see a fic posted every 9 months, or every year. There's no real indication that anything they do is helping me regularly, that they're even supporting a Current Active writer. In light of that, I've been considering starting to post wips of mine. The problems with that are numerous and a bit overwhelming, hence wanting to hear others' opinions and vent about it ad nauseum. I've got lots of wips, and if I were to start posting them, I wouldn't want to toss the whole wip out at once. But posting a chapter at a time every few days or even once a week, while it would mean a lot of content coming out, it would be a lot of content that I haven't finished. Cliffhanger chapters, and unfinished stories that I can't promise would ever be finished. And I know I don't owe my readers anything, but it's still unsatisfying to post something without an ending. Then there's the absolute overload of possibly too Much content for people. Getting an e-mail every other day about a new chapter for a fic you've no interest in reading isn't fun. And on top of all that, is the editing. Often when I'm struggling with a fic, I find that i need to go back and change the beginning. In honesty, part of why I wait to post until I'm finished with fics is bc semi-regularly I'll get to the end of a fic, go back to the beginning and edit it all over again to make it more cohesive. To me there is no such thing as a 'finished' chapter. only a finished fic. If I posted as I wrote, then I'd either not be able to go back and edit chapters, or if I DID go back and edit my chapters, they would then need updated, and people who'd read the first 4 chapters of something would end up needing to reread the fic to get the full sense of what I'm doing. But at the same time, posting my wips would mean finally getting to share some stuff that's been gathering dust for years in some cases, finally getting to see people's reactions to them. Finally getting to know that even if I don't end up finishing it, at least people can enjoy what's already been written. And of course, finally getting to show people that when they support me through donations or comments or what-have-you, they're supporting an Active writer, supporting work being made every day, even if it's not FINISHED every day. All of these things are stuff I'm trying to take into consideration, and it's been a hell of a struggle. Plus, as I'm unfortunately trying to manage doing a part-time job rn, just getting up the energy for this stuff is a big BIG task.

If you've got any thoughts or strategic ideas, I'd love to hear them. If not, s'all good, I mostly just wanted to vent. XD

Remind me, how does Shadow work in the IAU?

That is an excellent question! To which I have... somewhat of an answer XD

Base level, he’s got the role of the raccoon in the second movie that Jack-Jack fights. In IAU, it’s more Four woke up and heard someone rifling through their garbage and decided to chase him off himself (he’s got powers now, right? He can totally handle it!), while Shadow was just looking for something to eat and doesn’t give up so easy.

I don’t know where Shadow came from, and I don’t know what his backstory is apart from being a somewhat feral street kid. But the boys end up taking him in at least temporarily, and he gets dragged along on the messes they keep ending up in XD

He’s also adding to the chaos Time is trying to deal with— I needed to make some more problems for him, since in the movie there’s a baby with power stuff and Four is a good deal older and therefore slightly less chaotic, I needed some extra thing going on.

Shadow nicely fits that role :)

Ranking SxF episodes least favourite to most favourite

No, I have nothing better to do. Temperature reached 42 degrees today (Celsius. That's 107 if you're American) and it was like that most of the day so going out was out of the question. We were also let off work today so I had a little too much free time so what was left was being inspired by a random video for another show and going at it for SxF!

This is all my personal judgment heavily based on stuff I liked. You most certainly will disagree with me and that's fine! Just don't argue with me because that's just personal opinions, I'm not trying to change anyone's minds or prove anything!

I didn't want to say "worst" in the ranking because even the episode I consider the weakest, you'll find out soon which one I'm talking about, is still a great episode that I've enjoyed watching in my rewatches. Just not as much as the other episodes.

There's a high chance I will change my mind after a while on this. I made the rankings quite quickly and more on instinct than anything else. But hey this is my blog I post what I want.

I chose to rank each episode by five criteria, the things I love the most about the show: 1) Humor (intentional or not), 2) Character (defining or cool moments and such) 3) Cute (mostly Anya and Bond adding to that XD) 4) Plot (how much development there is and how well the action is delivered) 5) Feels (of any kind).

So under the cut the rankings go!

#25, Least Best: 10. The Great Dodgeball Plan

Humor: 7/10 Character: 5/10 Cute: 5/10 Plot: 4/10 Feels: 4/10

Yeah, I don't have much to say about this one. As far as fillers go, it's pretty good stuff, and the anime team did a good job adding new scenes to expand it so that they could fill an entire episode about it, instead of shoehorning this chapter into another episode that wouldn't be relevant. Again, it's a good episode, but one I had no problem skipping in my, like, fifth rewatch of the entire show XD

#24: 22. The Underground Tennis Tournament: The Campbelldon

Humor: 6/10 Character: 6/10 Cute: 4/10 Plot: 6/10 Feels: 5/10

I'm not into sport-y action in fictional media, and this episode has a little too much Nightfall and almost completely no Forger family moments so it was doomed for me to be at the bottom. Don't misunderstand me, the action was good and Nightfall's ridiculousness was enjoyable. But not something I'd rewatch a ton of times. I also like that we got a little bit of political mention in this one, so plot points were added.

#23: 17. Carry Out the Griffin Plan/ Fullmetal Lady / Omelet Rice

Humor: 7/10 Character: 7/10 Cute: 5/10 Plot: 6/10 Feels: 3/10

I think I've made my stance on the moments of Damian bullying Anya clear, and no episode of the show has made me as uncomfortable as this one has. It's still got nice moments between Anya and Becky and I love the small glimpse into Sylvia's life and the ending with Yor and smol Yuri, but my biases don't allow this episode to go any higher.

I'll be honest, I feel kinda sad this is so low because Anya is so adorable and such a GremlinTM in this one, but there's only so much her little back can carry. Extra feels though for Twilight worrying over Anya's stress. Again, a very well-standing episode as far as fillers go, but not one to keep me at the edge of my seat.

#21: 19. A Revenge Plot Against Desmond / Mama Becomes the Wind

Humor: 7/10 Character: 6/10 Cute: 7/10 Plot: 6/10 Feels: 6/10

I have to be honest. I don't really like George. He annoyed me more than anything else. Most of my enjoyment of this episode comes from the second part. Yor's part was funny and cute and even sweet, especially at the end, but as far as this ranking goes, the George plot dragged it down. Interesting addition, however, that xenophobia has run so deep in this country that George fears he'll be sold off as a slave in Westalis, so plot point up.

#20: 7. The Target's Second Son

Humor: 7/10 Character: 7/10 Cute: 6/10 Plot: 6/10 Feels: 8/10

The two different part of this episode, once again, make the ranking a little skewed. I actually love the second part, especially the discussion between Loid and Yor. Loid picking up Anya and whispering in the sweetest voice ever about recording Spy Wars for her makes me fucking melt. Unfortunately, it's tied to an episode with bullying and no retribution, so it's dragged down a little.

#19: 18. Uncle the Private Tutor / Daybreak

Humor: 9/10 Character: 6/10 Cute: 7/10 Plot: 7/10 Feels: 6/10

Yuri was fun. Daybreak was ridiculous (affectionate). Anya was cute. Twilight in action was interesting. I want to remind you that I absolutely adore this show, so this episode being number 19 on the list doesn't mean it's bad. It means it's very good but not epic like the ones on the top of the list.

#18: 23. The Unwavering Path

Humor: 8/10 Character: 7/10 Cute: 6/10 Plot: 7/10 Feels: 7/10

I laughed so hard at Yor decimating the tennis ball with the racket, that alone earns a high humor point. I loved the moment of Twilight supporting Carroll Campbell after he beat him at tennis, so character points added for that. Plot was interesting, at first I was annoyed that the tennis match was for nothing but then I found it interesting that it kind of paralleled Nightfall's obsession with Twilight. Feels points added for the end where Twilight goes and buys his girls' favourite snacks :D

#17: 25. First Contact

Humor: 5/10 Character: 9/10 Cute: 5/10 Plot: 8/10 Feels: 8/10

This one is only so low due to the limited points in humor and cute section. This was, after all, a serious episode, but you'll see down the line that there are other serious episodes that got more points in humor and cuteness. It still got 9/10 for character thanks to a great introduction on Donovan and 8/10 for plot and don't get me wrong, it's still a great episode that I like rewatching. It gets extra feels points because of Becky being best friend material and because of the "Is that why you're using force to bring other nations to their knees" moment. Hey, I never said the "feels" part didn't include angst :)

#16: 6. The Friendship Scheme

Humor: 7/10 Character: 9/10 Cute: 8/10 Plot: 6/10 Feels: 6/10

Unsurprisingly, the first part is more favourable to me. Yor saving Anya and Anya supporting her and loving her is adorable. We get a bit of spy stuff, we're introduced to the Handler and we love it, and Anya's punch was absolutely delicious.

#15: 8. The Counter-Secret Police Cover Operation

Humor: 9/10 Character: 9/10 Cute: 6/10 Plot: 7/10 Feels: 6/10

I'll mourn the day where I'll watch the ending of this episode and not laugh hysterically. It's so dramatic, especially with the music added to it, I've laughed every single time like the first time I watched it. Again, Yuri is both satisfyingly funny and with good character motivations, with a great setting of his extremism and not a condemnation of him for it. A bit of cute points added for the Yor and Yuri flashbacks.

#14: 4. The Prestigious School's Interview

Humor: 8/10 Character: 8/10 Cute: 7/10 Plot: 6/10 Feels: 9/10

I'll always love the ridiculousness of the Forgers bringing three sets of clothing for the interview. Character points very up especially for Loid defending Yor and almost going ballistic on Swan. Feels especially for the ending family scene, and this whumper also appreciates how the anime added the bandage around Loid's hand :)

#13: 13. Project Apple

Humor: 7/10 Character: 7/10 Cute: 9/10 Plot: 8/10 Feels: 7/10

Again, I feel it's unfair that such a good episode ranks almost in the middle but that's just because the competition is very high lol. A good balance of Anya being an Ulcer-Inducing GremlinTM, Bond being the bestest boi, Anya and Bond being the cutest duo as well as all the other pets at the adoption fair, great introduction to the Doggy Crisis Arc, and Bond and Anya bonding!

#12: 3. Prepare for the Interview

Humor: 8/10 Character: 8/10 Cute: 8/10 Plot: 6/10 Feels: 9/10

After the first two episodes were packed with plot, the third episode comes with great balance of character and dynamic moments. Especially having read the original manga chapter, I feel the director and animators did a great job adding more stuff to expand this episode. The flow was so natural I felt shocked to know almost half of the episode was anime original. With all three Forgers coming together at the end to catch the thief, and with Twilight having a realization at the end of how Yor inspired him, I love what this episode makes me feel.

#11: 15. A New Family Member

Humor: 8/10 Character: 7/10 Cute: 10/10 Plot: 6/10 Feels: 9/10

An excellent conclusion to the Doggy Crisis arc and welcoming of Bond in the family. That moment in the above screenshot alone is enough to make the cuteness skyrocket. Plot doesn't need to be high as it's the conclusion of the arc, but feels and humor more than make up for it. The only thing I would say about it is that it's hard for me to watch it on its own, it kinda needs to follow the impact of the previous two episodes. Which says a lot about how good the build-up and conclusion of that story was, by the way!

#10: 9. Show Off How In Love You Are

Humor: 9/10 Character: 8/10 Cute: 6/10 Plot: 8/10 Feels: 9/10

A lot of humor for Yuri's overdramatic reaction at the first part! Also for Anya's reactions the next morning XD This episode is very defining for Twilight's perception of Yor. He opens up to her about feeling jealous of her relationship with her brother, and the next day, from the first moment he feels hesitant and guilty over doubting her. Yor unintentionally but honestly proves how much she already cares for him and respects him and it's the beginning of her realizing how much she values being a part of the Forgers. Overall, satisfying and fulfilling despite the secrets those two keep from each other.

#9: 5. Will They Pass Or Fail?

Humor: 10/10 Character: 7/10 Cute: 9/10 Plot: 6/10 Feels: 8/10

This episode sold me with how unapologetically it gave no single fuck. It was ridiculous and they loved making it so and it shows. Such kind of humor is art. A relaxing episode (for us, certainly not for Loid) after the heavy packed introductory episodes and the stressful interview one, we get to sit back and enjoy Twilight becoming the butt of the joke and get his butt kicked, while Anya, Yor, and even Franky have the time of their lives. Princess Anya is adorable, especially with her badly-acted "Oh, no, save meee" and the ending scene of Loid and Anya warms my heart!

#8: 12. Penguin Park

Humor: 8/10 Character: 7/10 Cute: 10/10 Plot: 7/10 Feels: 9/10

PENGUINS! Enough said! I had so much love for penguins as a kid that if I was gifted a huge penguin plush I would be hysterical. Among the best fillers, it still has a solid plot and good character moments, and I absolutely adore how Anya tries to help Loid in his mission in such a way that the only reason he doesn't get suspicious is because she's too little for him to imagine ever being involved in something like this. Which adds both to the humor and the feels. Extra feels because again, this whumper appreciates an exhausted Loid :D

#7: 11. Stella

Humor: 7/10 Character: 10/10 Cute: 8/10 Plot: 7/10 Feels: 9/10

Anya showcasing massive amounts of bravery and kindness, and finally being recognized for it. Twilight feeling genuine pride for her. A legit intense moment of a kid almost drowning. A grand rescue! It's SO GOOD YOU GUYS!

#6 21. Nightfall / First Fit of Jealousy

Humor: 8/10 Character: 9/10 Cute: 8/10 Plot: 6/10 Feels: 10/10

My biases all out in the open. A subtle hint that Twilight is genuinely happy as a part of the Forgers and I become a puddle of feels. At the same time, while it's clear we should root for Yor and distrust Fiona and her methods, it's great character building for her and spot-on dynamics between the rest of the characters. Anya rubbing her face all over Yor and Bond to basically tell Fiona "begone you foul witch we are happy as we are" is perfect. Loid supporting Yor (with a heavy hint that it actually means a lot to him that Anya is happy with Yor as her mother) and then showing a hint of genuine emotion that's so strong he doesn't even realize is seeping through his smile and I AM DONE. It's the beginning of my end.

#5: 14. Disarm the Time Bomb

Humor: 6/10 Character: 10/10 Cute: 6/10 Plot: 9/10 Feels: 10/10

I cannot express how much I love the "You know nothing about war" scene. It's so raw and so human and so disturbing (in a great storytelling way) that this moment alone makes me trust fully in the way Endo will handle the story in regards to war and politics later on. It's more of a character moment, mostly for Sylvia but in a subtler way about Twilight too, so it deserves a solid 10 in that regard. Plot is still heavy and action-packed, some humor and cuteness manages to sneak in, and then there's the moment of Bond having the vision of Loid dying which I kid you not, when I first watched the episode I felt like someone punched me in the gut. That alone skyrockets feels up to 10, but then there's also Anya apologizing to Yor for running off on her own and Yor hugging her tight while being realistic about the situation. Deserved spot in the top five.

#4: 16. Yor's Kitchen / The Informant's Great Romance Plan

Humor: 7/10 Character: 10/10 Cute: 9/10 Plot: 6/10 Feels: 10/10

Look. I tried to be as honest as possible in my rankings, and I ranked each episode separately before seeing where they ended up on the list. The fact that with absolute honesty, this episode ranks so high says a lot about how, though combining two wholly different plots, it does so many things I love about this show so good. Yor feeling accepted and genuinely happy over seeing Loid and Anya enjoy the food she made for them means so fucking much for me. That's her revelation of love for this family, and she's still got way to go before she even falls for Loid romantically. It's still a filler but it's so good for character and long overdue focus on Yor. Franky's part has sufficient humor and character on its own, and with Twilight deciding to console him at the end it's all tied up with a neat little bow.

#3: 24 The Role of a Mother and Wife / Shopping with Friends

Humor: 9/10 Character: 9/10 Cute: 9/10 Plot: 6/10 Feels: 10/10

I unapologetically barely acknowledge the second part of this episode because the first part hits SO HARD that the second feels like a commercial break in comparison (apologies to any who loved it. I actually find it a great part on its own, but when put next to the first part, it pales in comparison for me).

This episode ended me. I don't know if I'm biased on my rating because I recorded my reaction to watching it, and I saw myself laughing so hard and so often, as well as saw my own near-crying face in both scenes where baby Twilight was shown, that I can't help giving such high numbers on the humor and feels part. Though okay this episode wants you to feel stuff, so maybe it's just the humor part that may be a little biased. I wouldn't actually consider it the funniest episode of the season. Anyway, I don't think there's actually a lot to say regarding why I rated with the numbers I rated. It's a great episode that has a lot to say about Twilight, Yor, and their relationship and connection, and it's made with so much love by everyone, from Endo himself, to the cast and crew. I love it and I will continue to love it.

#2: 2. Secure a Wife

Humor: 10/10 Character: 10/10 Cute: 7/10 Plot: 8/10 Feels: 9/10

Yor's introduction is, for real, one of the best and most satisfying character introductions I've ever had the pleasure to lay eyes upon. She is flawlessly presented in her full glory, with her (natural) weaknesses revealed. From her first episode you learn everything you need to know about her, and she is seamlessly inserted into the plot and the lives of the established characters so past that, you get to enjoy her being an irreplaceable part of the story. Her motivations are clear, her character agency is well established, and it's all done succinctly and efficiently within 20 minutes of screentime. It's fabulous. At the same time, the episode delivers great humor, a bit of expansion of plot and world building, as well as feels for how Twilight and Yor start connecting without even realizing it, and the hands-down best proposal scene I've seen in fictional media in my entire life.

It's for a fake marriage and still nothing compares to it. Your otp could never.

#1: 1. Operation Strix

A quite honestly perfect introductory episode. In a little more than twenty minutes of screentime, it establishes all of the following:

Twilight and Anya's characters and motivations, as well as their strengths and weaknesses.

The basis of the relationship between Twilight and Anya.

The plot of pretty much the entire story.

A succinct presentation of the political situation without long exposition scenes.

The mood and setting; a careful balance of found family humor and realistic anti-war stance.

At the same time, it manages a tight and self-sufficient episode plot that fits the characters' backgrounds and MOs, it delivers meaningful flashbacks, and all that while being honest about what it's trying to be, without fanfare and badassery trying to cover up leaks like flex tape. Every scene, every shot, every second has a reason and meaning. Paired with episode 2, it's genuinely a near flawless introduction to everything Spy x Family is about. It gives you all you need and prepares you for the awesomeness that follows!

What if Minato and Rin decided to actually do something and didn't keep it a secret.. so as a result, Obito didn't find out about the reason Kakashi changed as late as he did in canon?

Discussions of suicide

It wasn’t like Obito was watching Kakashi all the time, but still he noticed the change in demeanour instantly when it happened. It was the day he came back to school after having been absent for about a week with what the teachers called “a need for some rest” which added no information. That day Kakashi, when he walked past Obito, didn’t even look up to exchange eye contact with him, not taunt him, not make fun of him, he just walked on without a word. Obito knew something must be very wrong then.

He kept Kakashi in his eye, not because he particularly cared, but because he knew Rin did and everything Rin cared about also was something Obito cared about, at least that was a way to rationalise it to himself. Kakashi remained quiet for the rest of the month when they attended the academy together, answered only when asked, didn’t play with his classmates, didn’t say a word while sparring, he seemed all in all completely absent.

Not that Kakashi had previously been the life of the party. Obito had never been able to stand Kakashi and his big mouth. He knew how talented he was and how famous his father was and as such he liked bragging a lot. They had never gotten along for more than to make Rin happy, who tried to be friends with both of them.

But still, now, Kakashi had almost become mute, as if that week away from school had taken his voice completely. Something must have happened, Obito concluded, but when he asked the teachers they didn’t want to give him a straight reply and nobody of the other students seemed to know (at least those that didn’t immediately walk away from him when he asked.) Asking Kakashi directly would be fruitless too, because he would never admit to having problems.

It was clear to Obito though that Kakashi was having problems and maybe he would have eventually approached the younger boy if by the end of the month he hadn’t stood in front of them with a shiny new headband. “Kakashi is graduating early,” the teacher said with a smile. “He will be a genin from now on.” 

Kakashi was just staring into space in front of him, giving no indication that he had heard Obito say “what that guy?!” or taking a stab back at him. He just bowed, said goodbye with a proper thank you to the class he was now leaving and then he was out the door. It took months before Obito saw him again. 

This was also how Obito, momentarily, forgot about the change in Kakashi’s mood. He didn’t see him for a long time, and didn't hear of him either. Rumours said he was difficult to work with other Genin teams, that he did a lot of stuff alone and refused to communicate. That aligned perfectly with the arrogant, know it all Kakashi Obito had always argued with and so Obito let it slide. Kakashi seemed to be Kakashi again anyway.

It wasn’t until autumn came around when Obito saw Kakashi one afternoon at the river fishing. He was talking to himself. “If I catch one more I should have enough for dinner…” Obito wondered why Kakashi didn’t just go to the store to buy fish to eat or why his father wasn’t providing him with food.

Then Obito realised he hadn’t seen Kakashi with his father for a long time. Even before Kakashi graduated and left. He couldn’t even recall the last time he had seen the older Hatake.

Parents could disappear for weeks on end for missions, that was something Obito, himself an orphan, had learned from classmates. They were in a war and so every hand was needed. It was not unusual for younger children to be alone for a long stretch of time. But several months? That seemed incredibly unlikely. Especially at the age Kakashi was at. Not even seven now, he was definitely not a child to be left alone for half a year.

That brought the thoughts back into Obito’s head. Of how speechless Kakashi had become from one day to the other and how he had tried to figure out why he had been out of school for a week. The way the teachers had put on the fakest smile they could find to tell him that nothing had happened. It was a lie, Obito knew that now. His first instinct that something must have happened was probably right.

And though he despised talking to Rin about it, because talking about Kakashi with her was always so extra exhausting, he didn’t know who else to approach. 

“Rin,” he said eventually one morning at school when he had finally gotten over himself. “I have seen Kakashi fishing at the river recently. Do you happen to know if his father is on a long mission?”

The Nohara were part of the hospital and had run it since Konoha’s inception and as such they had eyes and ears in many places. Rin scratched with her feet on the floor. “He is not on mission”, she said shortly.

Obito narrowed his eyes: “Uh, in the hospital?” Maybe Hatake had been injured on a mission and now needed long term treatment. That would qualify Kakashi for some support payments, so that wouldn’T explain the fact that he felt like the need to fish, but maybe Kakashi was smart in everything but budgeting money. Obito certainly wasn't good at it.

“No, he -uh, is also not in the hospital.” Rin seemed reluctant to talk about whatever was going on. She started again: “He..” but was interrupted with a loud crash as Gai flying kicked Genma right out of the hand to hand combat circle. There was some noise for a moment, a little exchange between the boys and it took a moment before quiet was restored.

The topic seemed to have been lost for a moment and both of them moved on to their own matches, but after school Obito suddenly remembered again. He followed Rin out of the school gates. “Wait, wait, you didn’t tell me what happened to Kakashi’s dad!” 

Rin stopped and looked at him, suddenly a deep sadness in her eyes. “I’m not sure it is my story to tell, Obito. Kakashi might not want it.”

“Come on Rin, is Kakashi here to say no?” Obito whined and then said: “I just… worry about him a little.” One time in his life he was honest about Kakashi and he would never ever be again, he told himself.

The strategy seemed to work though. Rin stepped a bit back so she could be closer to Obito. “Promise me you won’t make fun of him for it.”

“Fun? When do I ever-”

“Promise me.”

Obito made a face but then offered his fingers for the unison sign. Rin took it and they held it for a moment, making their promise count. Then, Rin sighed deeply. “Hatake Sakumo has died. Months ago. You know when Kakashi was out of the school for a while.”

Somehow Obito had suspected something like this, but hearing it out loud was different. “On a mission?” he asked. That was something that seemed to happen quite often in this war. HIs parents had died on a mission as well.

“No.” Rin bit her lower lip. “No, he was out of mission rotation for a while at this point.” She stopped for a moment, as if the next words caused her physical harm saying them out loud.

“He killed himself.”

Obito’s jaw dropped open against his will, but the only thing that came out was: “Oh.”

Rin continued. “Kakashi found him and reported him dead. Kakashi organised the wake and the funeral, since then he has lived alone. I guess money is scarce now that his fathers’ mission earnings are no longer there. I should go by his house and help him if I have time…” She seemed to lose herself in her own thoughts.

“Why?” Obito found his voice again, but he could feel himself shaking. “Why would his father do something like that?”

He hadn’t expected to react so heavily to this news. He felt a mixture of anger and rage. His parents hadn't left him because they wanted to, they had died for a cause. But Sakumo had apparently decided that caring for Kakahshi wasn’T worth it and now his son was starving.

“I don’t know the exact details,” Rin explained, “I heard adults whispering about a mission that Sakumo was the leader of. He was supposed to assassinate someone high ranking in the enemy's military and didn't do so. It turned out that he could only go through unnoticed if he’d sacrifice his entire squad and he decided to save them instead. The target stayed alive and the war is still going on. My dad said many had hoped the death of that one person would have ended the war, but my mom thinks that it would have just led to more violence.”

Obito needed a moment to parse through the entirety of the information that had just been provided to him. “So,” he said trying to draw a conclusion, “He made sure everyone in his team made it home alive and he killed himself because… he was ashamed?”

Rin scratched her foot over the ground again: “I think the other people in the village shamed him for it, not him so much himself.” She looked up into Obito’s pale face and then added quickly: “But I don’t know the details, Obito, I just…. I’m just sorry I can’t help Kakash in his grief.”

“It’s okay, Rin” Obito put one hand on her shoulder, “Thank you for telling me what I asked you to tell me. I will need to head out now, but thank you anyway.” He put his googles down over his eyes and gifted Rin his brightest smile and a thumbs up.

The girl seemed like she was half crying, but when they looked at each other she found a smile too. “Just remember that you promised not to make fun of Kakashi for this.”

Obito nodded and then ran off as fast as he could. He didn’t understand why Rin thought he would ever make fun of Kakashi for this. The opposite really. For the first time in his life, Obito openly admired something about Kakashi’s life.

The Hatake compound was located outside the village in a little clearing in the forest. Once they had been farmers, Kakashi had told the others in school, and so they were not one of the big clans of the village, at least not like the Uchiha were. Obito had proudly made fun of him for this. Called him a peasant and pointed at him. It was the only thing Obito had superior to Kakashi and he wouldn’t let him forget it.

“Kakashi!” Obito yelled when he arrived, almost ripping the door open when he arrived. Kakashi, eyes wide, stood in his own kitchen, another fresh fish half cut open on the counter. Obito wanted to hurl at the sight of the animal, but he couldn’t show weakness in front of Kakashi so he made a face and then looked away.

“Why are you here?!” Kakashi looked around himself as if he expected other classmates to jump out of the bushes any minute now. It wouldn’t have surprised Obito if Kakashi had thrown the knife like kunai, expecting just another invader, but luckily for Obito that had not been the case.

Obito threw off his shoes and barged into the house, even though it was rude to enter a place without being invited in. “I have come to tell you something!” he announced and pushed his pointer finger into Kakashi’s chest.

“What…. Why?” Kakashi shook his head. 

“Rin told me what happened to your father,” Obito said deadpan. “I’m sorry.” He meant it.

Kakashi’s eyes went dark very quickly. He turned away from Obito and looked at his half gutted fish again. “I don’t care about that,” he replied in an icy tone. “Please leave.”

“Bullshit! Of course you care!” Obito felt enraged again.

The boy did after all throw the big knife, but not in Obito’s direction, but against the wall at the backside of the kitchen. He looked up to his former classmate. “My father broke the rules that it takes to be a successful shinobi. He died in his own shame.” It was like Kakashi pressed out each word with pent up cold anger. “I don’t care for trash.”

Flabbergasted, Obito took Kakashi by his shoulders and shook him a little: “What are you saying? What the hell?”

“If you can’t stick to the rules, you are trash.” Kakashi’s eyes were hardened. “That is what you need to know to be a shinobi. He should have known that.”

Obito wanted to hit him, but instead let go and took a step back. “It is true that those who break the rules are trash,” he said. “But to me, those who abandon their friends are even worse trash!”

Kakashi’s eyes opened and he for the first time actually looked at Obito.

“I think your father is a hero for what he did!” Obito put his hands into his side. “I think, if we had more shinobi like him in this village, it would be a better place.” 

He paused for a moment to watch Kakashi’s mouth quiver beneath his mask. Then he let out a big breath to continue: “Ah, if he had been my father, I would be so proud of him.”

Finally, the dam broke and Kakashi’s knees gave in. He crashed onto the floor and curled up into himself as if he was trying to make his body as small as possible. Obito had never seen Kakashi show any sign of weakness before, so seeing him sob so uncontrollably felt almost like it was a different person.

Obito jumped forward and wrapped himself around Kakashi as much as he could. “Hey, it’s fine, it’s okay,” Obito whispered, trying to imitate what his grandma did to him when he cried. “I’m here, you’re not alone.”

Kakashi cried for a while and Obito stuck around until he had at least somewhat pulled himself together. Once on his feet again Kakashi finished the fish he had been preparing and they ate dinner together, all without exchanging much of words. Neither was ready to discuss their new found understanding just yet, but from then on Obito would come by the house to eat dinner with Kakashi. Sometimes Rin or Gai accompanied them too.

In time, Kakashi put up a little shrine in memory of his father and Obito always brought a little rice for it. If he was Hokage, he swore to himself, then he would make sure that good shinobi like Sakumo would be rewarded for their heroism and not judged. Despite all the admiration Obito had for Sakumo, sometimes he also hated him just a little, for leaving Kakashi alone like this. That was when he tried hardest to spend time with Kakashi. Never openly of course. He couldn’t have Kakashi know that he cared. That would have ruined his image.

By popular request...or an anon commenting me last night about enjoying me creating posts about the flaws in TWST and wanting me to talk about the worldbuilding aspect specifically along with me having some free time between jobs, here it is!

Disclaimer: Keep in mind this is all personal opinion. If you enjoy the worldbuilding in the game and find zero problems with it, great! I don't care. You are entitled to your opinion and I am entitled to mine.

Where do I even begin? The shorter question would be, "What isn't wrong with it?" xD But seriously, oh, boy—there's a lot. Hell, this is pretty much my go-to example how NOT to write an urban fantasy world.

The closest thing I can compare the world of TWST to is the movie Bright—and that's NOT a good thing. For those of you who never had the misfortune of watching that late 2010s trainwreck, it's about a cop played by Will Smith teaming up with an orc to retrieve a magic wand. Sounds cool, right? However, like with TWST, the worldbuilding is something to be desired. It's an alternate universe where two thousand years ago there was a big war between The Nine Races where the orcs supported the Dark Lord, but an orc defected and lead an army that defeated him. Despite everything, it's pretty much exactly like real life with a few added fantasy elements. It even brings up real world pop culture references, containing such cringey and problematic lines like, "Fairy lives don't matter" after the Will Smith cop squishes a pixie that's on par with a raccoon in that world.

The worldbuilding in TWST feels like that. It's exactly like real life but with a few Disney and fantasy elements slapped on top, like magnets on a fridge. There is hardly any deviation from real life. Things like planes, cell phones, methods of measuring, days of the week, etc all exist just as they do irl. When you stop and think about it, half of these things shouldn't exist and the other should be a little different.

Yana also never thinks of the implications all of this alternate history. Magic always existing and the Greek gods being real should have a huge ripple effect, creating a completely different history compared to real life, but yet it doesn't. Hell, the whole idea of knowing that the Greek gods are real alone would massively change world history, since they would be a proven concept, snuffing out every other religion in existence! The world should be more massively different than ours with Disney sprinkled on top. There's no imagination about how a world like this would work. To quote Lindsey Ellis, "You cannot import elements from our real world without including all of the history that comes with them. You can, but it's lazy, and it sucks." xD Sure, you can write a fantasy world with cars and stuff, but the histories and the ways those exist in those worlds cannot be the exact same. There must be some divergence for it to make sense.

None of the new worldbuilding elements sense or feels woven in. It feels like Yana tossing out whatever idea she comes up up with at the wall and seeing what sticks. A lot of it starts to fall a part or even contradicts itself.

Take the whole Stitch or Tsums events. The existence both of these imply that aliens exist. That brings up a lot of questions like...

What is this world's policy for alien life?

Are aliens well known entities for this world?

What are other's reaction to this?

How did his story play out in this world if that's the case?

Everyone in this world has a Disney counterpart, right? If that's the case, wouldn't that mean there's some TWST version of Stitch running around Night Raven?

Is any of this ever addressed? Nope. That's stupid. World shattering shit like that should be addressed. While I know these are probably more than likely corporate mandates, especially since Tmus are a Japanese Disney product while Stitch is super popular in Japan, she could've added a disclaimer saying that it's a crack au that has nothing to do with the canon. The fact that these are both canon is mind boggling.

Plus, both of these events create a giant plot hole. If aliens are known to exist in this world, then why the fuck can't Yuu go home? If aliens exist, wouldn't there be portals and other ways for them to go home? It just makes Yuu and the rest of the cast look like total dumbasses for never thinking of this!

It goes beyond stupid events, but happens in general. The game routinely brings up similar elements without thinking of their implications on the game as a whole. Take the whole existence of STYKs. It was never once brought up or foreshadowed in the game, but brings about a lot of questions that are hardly explored. Like if this has existed for hundreds of years, how the fuck hasn't anyone heard of it? If STYKS is attached has a branch which is like our world's, someone should've blew the whistle eons ago. Surely, someone as smart as Idia or another mage should've been able to hack them and expose that to the public. Right? Wouldn't there be more of a public outcry for stealing people away, including royalty? Wouldn't there be government oversight about this? None of these questions are never addressed. Yet that element is slapped in without a second thought. Same also goes for all of the new lore in regards to Lilia's past, those pointless prophet dreams or how Playful Land works.

The magic system and how overblot works also fall apart the more you think about it. According to the light novel, only one out of ten humans is a mage. The percentage goes up in other races, but it remains about the same. But that makes no sense. TWST isn't like the HP universe where mages are isolated from the outside world, they are a part of society. Wouldn't it be the DOMINANT gene after over centuries of mages fucking mortals? I think it being more like the ATLA or BNHA universe where mages are the majority would make a lot more sense. That's what I did in my fic. Hell, it would make the world more unique, because usually fantasy stories have it where mages are a minority.

How overblotting works is never fully explained. All that we know, despite being on the seventh fucking story arc, is that whenever a mage uses Okay, sure. But there are times where that isn't the case. Characters who hard use up any magic like Leona and Vil overblot. Even if you argue that they were emotional during those bits or something, wouldn't the other part play a bigger role, since they used up so little magic in those cases? How in the fuck is that unknown concept to the general public? Wouldn't that be common knowledge? Diseases like Alzheimer's aren't something that everyone experiences, but this existence of those things are still common knowledge. Hell, why is it extremely rare in the first place? Wouldn't it be more commonplace? I feel like having it be a biological consequence of a mage using up too much magic and it being a well known down side to the world like how it is in my writing makes a lot more sense and is much simpler.

The lore around the fae also make zero sense. Common elements in fae lore like never thanking them or accepting gifts from them for you owe them a favour to cream and honey making them drunk are never brought up or mentioned. These are not random tropes brought up in shit like Baldur's Gate 3, but ingrained shit to the fantasy genre. You can't strip them out, because it is what makes the fae, fae. Hardly any types of fae from folklore are ever brought up outside of dragons and Tinkerbell style pixies. Characters like Vil who act very fae like are completely human. To be honest, I genuinely get the sense that Yana has done no research into this topic at all, because that's how out of touch they seem compared to how they are in folklore and other fantasy series. But if that is actually the case, then she should've looked into it more or consulted another writer who knows a lot about it.

Plus, the whole idea behind Briar Valley also makes no sense. They are completely isolated from the rest of the world...because…well, nothing, besides possibly vague hatred of tech. That's dumb. Countries don’t isolate themselves for no reason. There is always some sort of explanation for them to do that, whether it's manufactured for political gain like Panem or out of protection like Wakanda. Seriously, am I the only one that thinks that Brier Valley is just the fantasy Amish? As for the Spinning Wheel Wars, that will be explored in more depth as the fics go on.

If you want to see a world similar to TWST done right, watch The Owl House. That series, too, has a modern fantasy world. Unlike TWST, it seems like a fantasy world with modern elements instead of the other way around. Despite having phone-like devices and manga, it feels like stepping into another world.

Either way, if you wondered why I came up with completely different worldbuilding for my fics—this is exactly why. The worldbuilding in this game is pure dogshit. I wanted to create something leaps and bounds better than the bullshit we got. The fact that me, an amuetur writer, gets complimented and praised for the worldbuilding in my fics and it being better then the game is truly sad. Yana is a seasoned professional with a published manga with dozens of volumes under her belt, she should be better at this than me, not the other way around! Same goes for @stormkitty97, because she helps me brainstorm ideas for my shit and uses it in her writing, too.

The biggest sin of all is that there are some genuinely really cool ideas in TWST. The idea of turning into a monster whenever you use up too much magic is terrifying. The story could've done so much more with that if it made more sense!

As much as I might get hate for saying this, Yana reminds me a lot of Stephanie Meyers in the sense that she can come up with cool concepts and ideas, but has no idea how to execute them properly. I would love to see a better professional writer tackle a concept similar to overblot, because it would be cool and scary in the right hands.

I think one big lesson that amuetur writers like myself can learn from the worldbuilding in TWST is that if you are a "Pantser", aka someone who writes on the fly, like Yana, great, all the more power to you. Hell, I confess that I'm more like Brandon Sanderson in the sense that I'm a mixture of both a "Pantser" and an "Architect" Writer, and I came up with some elements of my worldbuilding on my TWST fics as I was writing like the characters being able to teleport. But for fuck's sake, have a solid plan for your worldbuilding and stick with it. Because constantly throwing ideas at the wall beyond the outlining stage will eventually make these contradictions arise and make your world fall apart. Also, if you are building a modern fantasy world like TWST, always think through the implications each element bring. Adding in elements from our real world will always drag along all of the history tied with it. Having your modern fantasy world seem like TWST or Bright is the last thing you want.

FIRST UP This one hasn't actually been touched yet! by me at least aside from a doodle and adding my own two cents to it cause I keep forgetting to ask @pillowspace if they're planning anything more with it since the flailfest I unleashed over it XD And idk if tumblr search is being a butt but the only post/thread/thing I can find for it rn is this pic I did? no idea where the reblog chains went?? THOUGH in the last... 2 hours I think? I'd end up combining my thoughts on it with the red string soulmate AU cause who doesn't like to throw in the tension of 'how am I linked to a robot' as a soulmate??? THE MAIN GIST of it though was that YN has pretty bad vision. Enough to occasionally use a cane but not so much they can't get around on their own as long as they know where they're going. They have SOME vision but it's pretty blurry so their job options are also pretty limited (they insist on working to take care of their kid sibling, who's kind of a lovable brat). Sun/Moon have escaped from The Faz, and are currently in 'hiding' as a drifter/hobo sort. They've got a big hoodie and sun hides his rays during the day, but pretty soon after escaping they run into a street kid. Absolutely not standing for this, they end up doing what they can to help provide food/shelter for the kid, and eventually sort of gain their own little pack of them(and their families) and put their skills to use to build nice ish but still crappy shelters and work around here and there to bring back food. At some point they cross paths with YN and help them out with some heavy lifting, but YN doesn't pick up the fact they're an animatronic. They part ways, but run into each other again (pluck the red string a bit here for the pull of fate slamming them together again). Stuff happens, there's an incident with a third party, and Sun offers to walk YN home for safety. They talk as they go and things go well. They part. This goes on for a while and eventually Sun meets the sibling. Sibling is IN THE KNOW right away. BIG SQUINT. They get blackmailed by the child. Meanwhile YN is unaware and starts doing little things like making food for them as a thankyou. Food they cant eat, but the people they're helping can. THIS keeps going, more cute interactions, then one day there's a bigass storm and YN insists Sun stay over cause it's dangerous. He can't justify going out enough so he begrudgingly stays. The lights go out. NOW, MOON is not ok with this. Sort of. He doesn't trust YN at all at first and is only slightly ok when they start giving them food they can bring and also helping them out with more cash than they were making otherwise to get things their folks need. When he shows up though, he does his best(bad job) to try and pass for sun until the storm passes, but it's uh... A Struggle. YN isn't sure what's up but they shrug it off. Later after more basics, the news picks up The Faz is looking for the runaway animatronic. Sun/Moon panic. They're not in the most hidden area, but now there's a problem. MOON is not on board with maybe asking YN for help. They're definitely getting closer, but they're also positive that YN would rat them out. Not justified, but still. He's wary. SO time to test YN. He'll prove to Sun You can't be trusted, and one day after walking them home a little later at night, flips the switch and bam. Moon Time. Classic Moon Time. Well, Almost. Something of a chaotic reveal, YN is scared, but mostly taken aback they never put two and two together. BUT there's that pull. That little red string pulled tight in their soul. Moon won't hurt them. And they couldn't bear ratting them out. There's some back and forth along the way of the boys being in denial about actually having some kind of string of fate, and once the bot reveal happens, YN is like Oh god. Oh god I was falling for them. They aren't even Human. Im an IDIOT. But they also couldn't bear to throw them under the bus and let something bad happen. So as the Faz follows the rumors of the boys helping out this little pocket community, and they need somewhere to actually hide, the offer is made. Things are tense with Moon out and about freely now, now that Sun knows he won't be a problem, but Moon is still waiting for things to go south. The next while is pretty domestic, mostly them hiding out and getting anxious they can't help their kids. YN realizing how stupid they've been about SO MUCH. But also having Sun and Moon around the house as another pair of hands is... very helpful. Extremely so. And even though Moon is standoffish, both do go out of their way to make some things easier. YN can breathe for the first time in a while. they aren't doing things all on their own anymore, as much as they could, it's nice to be able to have someone loosen the line. They fuss over some things, the 'i can do it' vibe running strong, but Sun and Moon try not to step on their toes. Aaaand I tHINK that's about as far as stuff got in the rambling? (But Pillow, idk if you did wanna do stuff with this, but if not I am all kinds of on board to futz with it XD')

I don't have anything specific but just wanna say that I'd love to read anything that fills the 36 years gap - the missing scenes which could have happened alongside their growing relationship. Love confession? First kiss? First time? Secret proposal? Secret vacation? First time texting or using any modern tech? (XD) If you have any inspiration for these kinds of stuff please do!



Hey hey, here's a bunch of tiny ficlets for some of the stuff you mentioned. It's all unbeta'd so please forgive the typos!

Love Confession

Mav could feel himself figeting, but he couldn't bring himself to stop. His nerves were at an all time high as he contemplated his next move. He knew that today he could no longer hold his feelings about Tom "Iceman" Kazansky inside and before they got their next orders, Mav had to tell him how he felt.

In the time since Goose's death and MiG mission, Ice had been Maverick's closest friend. He ate lunch with Mav, watched hockey games, ran on the beach, tried new bars and more with Mav. After a while, people knew where you found Maverick, you would find Ice.

And in each encounter, every laugh and every touch Maverick fell a little bit harder than the day before.

When Ice enters the bar, before he can properly greet Maverick, Mav has blurted out "I'm in love with you" and ran before Ice could respond.

(Spoiler: He responded very well)

First Kiss

Maverick has made it his mission to keep such an intense pace, by the time Ice realizes what he said, Mav will have disappeared into the night. (This is a bad plan because 1. Ice knew where Mav lived and 2. Mav was walking and Ice drove)

The obvious problems in Maverick's plan became painstakingly obvious when by the time Maverick made it home, Ice was already sitting on his porch.

Approaching the porch slowly, Mav steeled himself in the event that Ice was a homophobe and here to hurt Maverick. Walking with his chin high and approaching Ice head-on, Mav was ready. Ice jumped to his feet and approaching Mav quickly.

Preparing for a fight, Mav shut his eyes.

Suddenly, a hand clasped around the back of his neck and he was dragged into a kiss. The kiss was rough and passionate. He could smell Ice's cologne.

Pulling back, Mav blinked his eyes open and stared into the heated eyes of Ice.

Secret Proposal

They were docked in Guam temporarily, waiting for next steps in targeting a foreign arms factory nearby. It was rare for Ice and Mav to be assigned to the same missions these days, as leaders were wondering how they could perform individually.

In a rare moment of freedom, the officers were allowing trips off the ship to explore the island some. Ice had spent some time peering at the island from the deck. The warm sunny beaches added a glow to his skin and he knew this was the closest he had ever come to paradise.

Later, as Ice brought Mav to a secluded spot on a beach, he'd embellish and say he found the spot from the view of the deck. But in actuality, he scouted the perfect spot. A place secluded for their privacy.

As Mav entered the secluded corner, he came face to face with 'Will you marry me?' in the sand. On a rock, used as the period on the question mark, was a model F14 with a simple gold band inside.

Maverick cries, both in happiness at his engagement and sadness, that the country they live in doesn't allow legal same-sex marriage.

First Time

Maverick can only describe it as love-making. It's slow and sensual and horribly indulgent. The entire experience feels decadent and it was the best of his life. The weight of Ice on top of him, the feeling of callous hands on his thighs, the grunts shared between the two of them.

Ice describes it as waking up. Nothing was there before Pete Mitchell and there will never be anything after him. He memorizes the touch of Mav's lips just behind his ear.

Secret Vacation

It's less a secret vacation and more that Ice has to trick Mav into thinking he's going on a mission and then he arrives and he's at a resort.

Part of Mav's resistance to vacation is the stares people give him and Ice. Mav isn't disillusioned enough to believe that people still hold contempt for same-sex couples. Some people still make their active mission to hurt them. And if someone were to figure out they were officers of the Navy, they could be reported and discharged. Mav can't help his discomfort when the concierge gives them a disapproving eye as they check into a single-bed hotel room.

They are able to enjoy themselves, but it doesn't change the sting of having to treat the love of your life as just a friend. To not know what it means to be public affectionate for the fear of safety.

They rarely vacation away from home. It's why Ice buys a sailboat, just for them to get away on their own terms.

Using New Technology

The first time, Mav facetimes Ice, Ice holds the phone to his ear the entire time because he still thinks a camera on the front of the phone is weird.

When Mav sends Ice an ice-cube emoji, he wonders where Mav got the cartoon.

He is very anti-phone technology, but it makes Maverick smile, so he sits through an hour everyday of tutorials to adequately respond to Maverick's gifs and emoji's.

Maverick tells everyone Ice has the best gif selection on the west coast.
