My months of rest and relaxation // day 9

Lately I have found a way out of some negative mental loops. I often find myself overthinking things I have said and done, it's like my brain has a default setting that critiques anything I do or not do, one way or another I always feel like what I did/said was wrong. Same goes for a general sense of guilt that comes up with no apparent reason way too often. I have been trying to work on both things for a long time, and lately I found the simplest way to stop this wave of thoughts. There's this song called Flow by Shawn James, an artist I really admire. In these moments I just stop, I close my eyes and mentally sing this song to myself: "and I'll flow like the river". I imagine myself litteraly in a river not fighting against the current just flowing as I were part of it. For some reason doing this thing brings me an immense sense of peace, and puts my mind to rest.

Productivity:

Started working on a new set of notes in my Irish grammar notebook, following the new material I am currently read

Practiced Irish on duolingo

Continued my re-listening of the magnus archives

Went to ikea with my parents and my aunt to get some stuff

Self care:

Did not set an alarm in the morning

Read first thing in the morning

Found these great sun flowers at a local market in Deal, Kent, they might be the cultivar Helianthus annuus 'ProCut Plum'. This annual produces stout, upright, stems and leaves. The flowers have a dark centre and red-pink petals tipped with cream.

It feels old enough for a procut, and I Don't know of any slime tutorials of it, but I feel I'm gonna need to see it to understand.

With this spate of ridiculous weather in the middle of May I have gotten almost the last of my garden planted for the year! All that’s left is to pick up a basil sometime this week.

I have some old favourites and some total experiments going this year - clockwise from bottom left:

- “Jilly Blend” zinnias (front) and “ProCut White Lite” sunflowers (back), both from West Coast Seeds and courtesy of my MIL’s Jilly Box subscription.

- Just planted, “Celine” bush beans and “Glass Gem” corn, also WCS

- round blue pot, empty for now (basil pending)

- round purple pot, blackcurrant mint

- larger round grey pot, “Arp” rosemary and “All Season” Mexican tarragon

- smaller round grey pot, thyme and chives

- three-tiered stand in the back corner, a mix of wildflower mixes from WCS (Pacific Northwest blend, Bee blend, Hummingbird blend - whatever I had left over)

- hanging from the railing, the left and right ends both have “Laguna Dark Blue” lobelia and “Vermillionaire” cuphea. Centre left is “Superbells Lemon Slice” calibrachoa and “Supertunia Black Cherry” petunia. Centre right is “Superbells Blackcurrant Punch” calibrachoa and “Surfinia Heavenly Blue” petunia, all from Proven Winners.

- terracotta strawberry planter, “Bloody Mary” nasturtiums from WCS

- back right corner, a carnation my kid picked and a pot of self-seeded California Poppies (and also several native varieties of moss, lol)

- little purple pot, something random sprouting from the root ball of an aster that didn’t survive the winter. It’s probably a weed but I kinda wanna see what it is

- hanging on stand, strawberries

- domed standing planter, half carrots and half mesclun

All that in not a ton of square footage! Some of it is definitely experimental (corn? Full size sunflowers? FAFO I guess) but the local hummingbirds will be happy in a couple weeks anyway!

Was Hopes doodoo-ing all over Houses lore, while also removing most of the good parts of the latter game's story and characters and quadrupling down on the bad ones, worth Rhea getting meaningful interactions and relationships with her family and friends for the first time outside of Heroes and having a badass death scene in SB?

This is a difficult question lol -

More seriously, I guess everyone expected something different from the finished Nopes product.

Given all the "attention" Fodlan receives that completely ignores Nabateans (tfw there are no nabatean bond rings bar Flayn who might have been Billy's student, but plot wise?) bar the Heroes alts, I'm very happy for the tasty breadcrumbs Nopes offered.

But if you order a burger, and if only the sesame seeds on the bun are tasty - is it a good burger? I don't think so.

So while another Fodlan procut/content might have forgotten or straight up ignored Nabateans (I just remembered the uwu drama CD :( ), imo those breadcrumbs wasn't worth getting Nopes, aka a game full of retcons, developed as a cashgrab by people who forgot FE16's plot (remember Hayashi said FE16 only had 3 routes !) to get an AU where everyone loses characterisation to uwu, even more than in the base game, about Supreme Leader.

Mind you, the devs from Nopes thought adding Monica and Holst were necessary additions to the story, but apparently, the evil lizard lady wasn't.

On paper, I like the idea of an AU and seeing how characters develop differently if some events of the base game never happened, but at least make them plausible! There's a reason why AG is so well liked, it's different from its FE16 version (unlike Supreme Bullshit and Tru Piss) and has meaningful characters developing in ways they didn't in FE16 (tfw Sylvain and Felix become mature!) while still remaining their core selves (unlike Clout).

But it didn't happen, while I try to find positivity in the game, I'm still a bit miffed that this spin-off could have been a WoH prequel, with giant armies clashing (the Larva paralogue!) where Rhea interacting with her brother (?) and friends while being a badass wouldn't just have been confined to 5% of the game (+3% for the opening cutscene).

Sure, that would have implied yeeting the student/modern world cast and not making a game based on them - still I never hid the fact that I care most about Nabateans in that game than about the student-modern cast, but hey, if I'm wondering about my dream "Nopes", I can be a little self-indulgent right?

Decided to look up the movie "drei Haselnüsse für Aschenbrödel" (a version of Cinderella) because I wanted to know what country that was from.

So, keep in mind the movie is from 1973.

It was a co-procution from CSSR and DDR, neither of those exist anymore.

This movie is both german and czech. It's always german (+ another country, a lot of the time) media from the 70's. Why do I never look up german (+) media from any other decade. What was going on in the 70's
