found a decent looking job that I am actually qualified for but it means that now I have to do one of life's most evil tasks (job application đ€ą)
#if anything i am actually somewhat over qualified because it's a graduate programme so doesn't require any experience#whereas i have two years of pretty much as relevant experience as possible without having done this specific role#the starting salary is more than what i'm on now and after two years it would increase to way more so i want it#but alas that does mean reopening my cv file that i haven't touched in two years#talking

IKIZULIVE / LOVE LIVE! BLUEBIRD master post

I'll be compiling what we know about Ikizulive so far to try and bring info about the project over to people who don't use twitter and are interested in getting into it. This post will be edited as more information is released so check back for updates.
About Ikizulive
Ikizulive or Love Live! Bluebird is a new project under the Love Live! franchise. While little information is known so far, their activities will primarily be held on YouTube and Twitter. It's speculated that this will be a Vtuber project possibly similar to Bandori's Yumemita spinoff, but that hasn't been confirmed yet. The official youtube channel can be found here, and the official twitter account here. Each character also has their own personal Twitter account, which will be linked in character bios below.
The project officially launched on May 12th with the release of character designs and their debut song, What is my LIFE?. More information will be revealed in the first cast stream on June 17th.
Story information
Not much about the story is known so far, but you can piece some information together from the tweets made by the girls. The girls attend an online high school called Love High School (LovećŠéąé«çćŠæ Ą, Love Gakuin Koutou Gakkou), which they shorten as L High (Lé«, Lkou). The academy has satellites schools in Asakusa, Tokyo (near Otonokizaka) in a multi-tennant building, Fukui (Fukui prefecture), and Umeda (Osaka prefecture). The facilities at the schools are poor, and they don't have a uniform. There are rumours that they may have to close due to a lack of funding and decreasing enrolment. Four of the girls at the Tokyo branch have started a school idol club called (roughly) Hard Life Club (ăăă„ăăéš, Ikizurai Bu), named such because they claimed an unused club channel on their school server which used that name.
The story is set at some point in the future after the Hasunosora story. On the character page of the official website, there is a heading that says "What are school idols". The description reads:
Idol groups that once existed across the country. Winning Love Live, a school idol competition, attracted a lot of attention at the time.
Interestingly, the group/project color is orange. Honoka is also quoted on the website. Though I might be thinking too hard about it...

Self-intro

A first year at L high's Tokyo branch. She enroled in online school after to failing her high school entrance exams due to being really bad at maths. She lives with her grandmother in Tokyo while her parents live overseas in Argentina. She doesn't like tight clothes and prefers skirts and shorts that are easy to move in, as she likes to dance, so she's happy about not needing to wear a uniform. She's not very good at using a computer, and Mai had to help her with learning how to use it and signing into lessons. She learnt about school idols not long after starting high school and decides to find some friends to start a school idol club with. She officially started IkizuraiBu with Mai, Hanabi, and Akira not long after.

Another first year at the Tokyo branch. She enrolled in online school so she could focus on her hobby/'job' as a programmer. Her parents made her attend in-person classes, and she reckons this is because she missed a lot of classes in middle school due to staying up all night and sleeping during the day. She values simplicity and doesn't like wasting time on school because it takes away from programming time, so she plans on watching her online lessons at 2x speed. She finds Polka a bit annoying at first and thinks she is the type of person who could easily fall for a scam. Mai also seems to be interested in making money, and wants her name to be known around the world. She is vice-president of IkizuraiBu.

A first year at L High's Tokyo branch. She enroled in online school so she could balance school with working at her parents' kimono shop, and so she didn't have to join a club. She loves kimonos and wears them all the time, even wearing one to school. People often stare at her because of this, but she wants to normalise kimono-wearing in everyday life. A second year student at L High's satellite school in Fukui. She's a pastry chef and runs an online bakery called MiraMiraMiracle Patisserie. She enroled in online school so she had more time to practice baking on her own after not liking the methods taught at confectionary school. She meets Noriko at school and offers her a muffin, but Noriko is incredibly shy around her. She finds this cute, and keeps bringing her more cakes. She talks in a lot of English, similar to Mari
She brought back souvenirs from LA, including a local team baseball cap, Anastasia cosmetics products and Trader Joe's eco bags
She's only following Midori
Despite her profile saying otherwise, her character description says that her motto is "love is justice"

A first year-aged girl. She doesn't seem to like school very much and often skips classes. She also has a difficult home life, and mentions feeling a constant weight of parental pressure, and gets into arguments with them sometimes. From many of her tweets, it's apparent that she has depression. She mentions in one tweet that people online probably know her better than anyone who knows her in real life. She also releases videos/streams on another platform, including a video of her new school uniform.
She does not have a school profile card on the website, and it does not mention what branch she attends. It's possible she has not enroled yet
Her height and blood type are not listed in her bio
Her hobbies are social media, puzzles, reading, and model kits
Her special skills are violin and piano
Her favourite foods are meal shakes, french fries, ramen, and spicy foods

Twenty things I wish Iâd known when I started my PhD
- according to Nature.com
Maintain a healthy workâlife balance by finding a routine that works for you. Itâs better to develop a good balance and work steadily throughout your programme than to work intensively and burn out. Looking after yourself is key to success.
Discuss expectations with your supervisor. Everyone works differently. Make sure you know your needs and communicate them to your supervisor early on, so you can work productively together.
Invest time in literature reviews. These reviews, both before and after data collection, help you to develop your research aims and conclusions.
Decide on your goals early. Look at your departmental guidelines and then establish clear PhD aims or questions on the basis of your thesis requirements. Goals can change later, but a clear plan will help you to maintain focus.
âI donât need to write that down, Iâll remember itâ is the biggest lie you can tell yourself! Write down everything you do â even if it doesnât work. This includes meeting notes, method details, code annotations, among other things.
Organize your work and workspace. In particular, make sure to use meaningful labels, so you know what and where things are. Organizing early will save you time later on.
Itâs never too early to start writing your thesis. Write and show your work to your supervisor as you go â even if you donât end up using your early work, itâs good practice and a way to get ideas organized in your head.
Break your thesis down into SMART (specific, measurable, attainable, relevant and timely) goals. You will be more productive if your to-do list reads âdraft first paragraph of the resultsâ rather than âwrite chapter 1â. Many small actions lead to one complete thesis.
The best thesis is a finished thesis. No matter how much time you spend perfecting your first draft, your work will come back covered in corrections, and you will go through more drafts before you submit your final version. Send your drafts to your supervisor sooner rather than later.
Be honest with your supervisor. Let them know if you donât understand something, if youâve messed up an experiment or if they forgot to give you feedback. The more honest you are, the better your relationship will be. Helping your supervisor to help you is key.
Back up your work! You can avoid many tears by doing this at least weekly.
Socialize with your lab group and other students. Itâs a great way to discuss PhD experiences, get advice and help, improve your research and make friends.
Attend departmental seminars and lab-group meetings, even (or especially) when the topic is not your area of expertise. What you learn could change the direction of your research and career. Regular attendance will also be noticed.
Present your research. This can be at lab-group meetings, conferences and so on. Presenting can be scary, but it gets easier as you practise, and itâs a fantastic way to network and get feedback at the same time.
Aim to publish your research. It might not work out, but drafting articles and submitting them to journals is a great way to learn new skills and enhance your CV.
Have a life outside work. Although your lab group is like your work family, itâs great for your mental health to be able to escape work. This could be through sport, clubs, hobbies, holidays or spending time with friends.
Donât compare yourself with others. Your PhD is an opportunity to conduct original research that reveals new information. As such, all PhD programmes are different. You just need to do what works for you and your project.
The nature of research means that things will not always go according to plan. This does not mean you are a bad student. Keep calm, take a break and then carry on. Experiments that fail can still be written up as part of a successful PhD.
Never struggle on your own. Talk to other students and have frank discussions with your supervisor. Thereâs no shame in asking for help. You are not alone.
Enjoy your PhD! It can be tough, and there will be days when you wish you had a ânormalâ job, but PhDs are full of wonderful experiences and give you the opportunity to work on something that fascinates you. Celebrate your successes and enjoy yourself.
This was part of my required readings this week and I have never related to an academic text more so I had to share.

oh forgot to mention, i am seeking help/advice! williams f1 has opened up their work experience for applications and i need to submit a cv as well as a video application
first, i have no idea how to write a cv because i haven't started working yet and i don't know how to make it good đ also, i barely have any experience besides my academics but idk how to twist that into "i'll do great at williams"
i have to include in the video:
Why you want to take part in work experience at Williams Racing
What skills you think you'll gain from the work experience programmeÂ
What makes you the perfect work experience candidate, why we should pick you
but i have a feeling i'm going to be awkward as fuck and i don't want to seem like the basic "choose me" videos, i want to do something unique and to show that i love f1
also i'm not telling my parents about this because then they'll probably stop me from applying âșïž (gotta love asian parents đ) if i get in, then i'll tell them but they might not let me go anyways because i didn't tell them about it
any advice/tips would be greatly appreciated because i am wandering blindly in this! thank you!

Watched Nick Apostolides play Separate Ways and wrote down stuff that caught my attention.
Guests on the stream: Craig (Weskerâs VA) & Andre (Luisâ VA). Andre joins for a short while mid-way through the stream.
- Nick was there when he watched Andre film the cutscene of Luis doing the flamenco. Apparently Andre nailed it in one take.
- Nick says Andre spent months researching the Spanish culture. (Andre talks a little bit more about it later.)
- Craig went to Vancouver three times in 2022 to film RE4R & SW. The main game & DLC were shot together. He couldnât say he went to Vancouver more than once or else he would give away that there were extra content like SW & Mercenaries.
- Nick was not aware how Ada got infected.
- Craig played RE5 co-op years ago and is trying to play it solo but acknowledged itâs not that fun to play solo.
- Craigâs download for SW took 7 minutes and he was very amused by that.
- Craig can only talk about games that have come out so donât ask him if thereâs gonna be a remake for CV or RE5.
- Craig was not aware who or what he was auditioning for and only knew he was playing Wesker when he was flown to the studio. He asked them if he should play Wesker like previous incarnations or like what he did in his audition. They told him to play Wesker like his audition.
- Craig said when he filmed for RE: Outbreak 20 years ago, the actors only saw stick figures on the screen but now, as you stand in front of the mocap cameras, you can see your entire character model on the screen rightaway and heâs quite impressed how far technology has advanced.
- Craig said he did mocap for Outbreak for 6 months. He did not book a part in Outbreak initially but Alyson Court (Claireâs original VA) actually brought him to work on the game.
- Craig filmed all his scenes together with Lily and only saw Nick 3 times during filming since Wesker & Leon donât have any scenes together.
- Craig has been a fan of RE for a long time. He played RE1 with his acting classmates and they were happy for him when he booked a part in Outbreak.
- Craig says he has never gotten a copy of any game he has worked on as the people he works with donât work in game distribution. He only managed to get a copy of the RE4R deluxe edition thanks to an ex-girlfriend who works in game distribution.
- Craig & Nick know both Wesker & Leon are very beloved characters in the franchise and have given it their all for their portrayals.
- Both of them squeed when Wesker says âcomplete local saturationâ and Craig has been waiting for a whole year wondering how fans would react to that line.
- Nick had no idea what would happen in SW since he didnât get the script for it.
- Craig also had no idea Wesker would be in Mercenaries but put two and two together when he recorded lines for Merc.
- Scenes are filmed out of order. Craig didnât know if he was filming for the main game or SW. He had to wait till the main game came out to see what scenes were shown in RE4R. Nick also has no idea if he filmed anything for SW.
- While the VAs have their own general idea on how to play their character as they walk into the studio, how they express their lines are based on a combination of whatâs requested by Capcomâs Japanese team, how the translator translates Capcomâs requests, and Steve Kniebihlyâs (cinematics director) direction.
- Someone asked Craig if he thought when Wesker was a child, would he shine a magnifying glass on ants. Craig said probably yeah and maybe pulling the wings of flies too. (Side note: The Ashford twins did that in Code Veronica)
- Craig was a musician first before he got into acting. In high school, everyone was into music and he made some music with his friends. His then-girlfriend asked him to audition in a school musical and he loved the acting expect of it. He then auditioned in plays before he went to acting school for college.
- Craig applied to both music & acting programmes for college. He always wanted to be a performer.
- Andre joins halfway through the stream. He enjoyed filming the opening flamenco scene even though it took a while to get the steps right. He doesnât think he can do the dance any more since itâs been a while.
- Andre mimed the reaction to being pulled by a rope in chapter 1. He didnât have confidence to pull it off and the team also agreed. He doesnât have stunt training anyway.
- Craig on the other hand, recounted when he was filming being grabbed by a monster for RE Outbreak. He had a rope on his head while filming for that and he didnât get stunt pay. But things were different years ago.
- Andre said the team took safety really seriously and even for simple things like pretending to fall over, Steve Kniebihly would tell the VAs not to do it and let the stunt team do it instead.
- When Craig auditioned for Wesker, the description was âVillain in a video gameâ. That was it. All the audition scripts were fake so actors who donât book the part wonât leak that the game is being made.
- Andre lived & breathed Castellan Spanish culture for months while he filmed RE4R and it drove his family a little crazy. He even spoke with a Castellan Spanish accent for a while too. His family is of Mexican descent and Mexican Spanish pronunciation is different from European/Castellan Spanish.
- Nick was friends with Paul Haddad (OG RE2 Leon VA) before he passed away. He also took some voice lessons from Paul Mercier (OG RE4 Leon VA).
- Craig has not spoken to any previous Wesker VAs. He is long time friends with Alyson and she was his director on one project he worked in before. He has met OG Brad Vickerâs VA before.
- Andre has only met Neil Newbon (RE8 Heisenberg & RE3R Nikolai) in person.
- Craig enjoys playing bad guys since itâs fun to do something he canât do in real life.
- Nick had to lower his voice for RE4R Leon since Leon in 2004 is a bit âsick of the same shit happening repeatedlyâ instead of being a newbie cop surprised at everything.
- Craigâs favourite scene to film was the Wesker & Ada confrontation at the beginning of the Island. He had to do the Wesker smirk at the end a few times as the team had to ensure it looked right on the Wesker model.
- Craig has a Guinness World Record for playing in the longest concert which lasted for 19 days, around 437 hours. He was in the planning committee for it and he played 5 times during the concert. To qualify for the record, there were a lot of rules. For example: at least 10 people in the audience had to be awake at all times, each song had to last at least 2 mins, and there can only be a maximum 30 seconds pause between each song.
- Nick got electrocuted in science class when he touched a capacitor with his bare hands. He mentioned that it really freaking hurt and it was almost impossible to let go. He had to force himself to open his hands.
- During the recording of the injury effort sounds for when Leon got electrocuted, Nick clenched his fists and shook them while grunting through gritted teeth.
- For Weskerâs injury effort sounds during Mercenaries mode, the team had to tell Craig to dial back as Wesker responds to injuries in a calmer manner.
- Nick had a lot of fun filming the part where Saddler transforms into his final form.
- Nick mocapped the pilot flying Adaâs chopper.
- Nick was completely mind blown by the stinger at the end.

First Look: The Ferrari SF90 XX Stradale
Based on the SF90 Stradale, the new special limited series SF90 XX Stradale was unveiled today alongside its SF90 XX Spider counterpart. To be built in just 799 and 599 examples respectively, these new V8-powered PHEVs represent the latest and most extreme example of a concept of special versions, which pushes the performance of Ferrariâs road-going models to new levels.
The concept has been honed over the past 20 years or so, with many of these models quickly becoming considered benchmarks in the Prancing Horseâs line up, such as the 488 Pista and 812 Competizione. Over the same two decades, Ferrari has also developed the XX Programme to offer a select group of expert client drivers extreme cars that are not homologated for the road, but that can be driven at the very limit on the track. All of the models produced by the programme have proved a huge success, with the most recent addition being the FXX-K EVO.
Drawing on its experience in both of these spheres, Ferrari decided to create a road-legal car which embodies the maximum expression of the two programmesâ engineering concepts. The SF90 XX Stradale is based on the supercar in the range, the SF90 Stradale, and raises its already impressively exhilarating track and on-the-limit driving experience to new heights. Performance is boosted thanks to its impressive 1,030 cv (30 more than the SF90 Stradale), specific software logics and the use of radical new aerodynamics solutions, including a fixed rear spoiler â the first to appear on a road-going Ferrari since the days of the F50 â which delivers an unparalleled 530 kg of downforce at 250 km/h.

THE WAR BETWEEN THE LAND AND THE SEA: RUMOURS OF NEW DOCTOR WHO SPIN-OFF
Some information contained below is from speculative reports for which the BBC declined to comment.
A new addition could be set to join The Whoniverse next year when the latest Doctor Who spin-off series 'The War Between The Land And The Sea' lands on BBC One and iPlayer.
The Mirror newspaper were the first publication to reveal the commission late last year, where it was reported the series would focus on classic Doctor Who foes The Sea Devils, a villain first seen opposite Jon Pertwee's Third Doctor in the 1970s before returning opposite Jodie Whittaker's Thirteenth Doctor in 2022.
A source later told The Sun: "Doctor Who fans love the monsters and The War Between The Land and the Sea will hopefully give viewers something new and different to enjoy. The Sea Devils and their cousins, the Silurians, have both featured in 21st-century Doctor Who, so modern audiences are familiar with them too."
Production listings for The War Between The Land And The Sea suggest the fantasy drama is to commence production in September 2024, suggesting the series will air mid-late 2025 after Season 2 of Doctor Who.
Online CVs from those involved in the series state that the show will comprise of five 60-minute episodes which will air on BBC One and iPlayer in the UK. Also stated is that the series will be directed by Dylan Holmes-Williams, who directed Doctor Who Season 1 episodes 73 Yards and Dot & Bubble.
When it comes to casting, a member of Doctor Who forum GallifreyBase has suggested the series will be led by Freema Agyeman, reprising her role as former Doctor Who companion Martha Jones.
She will reportedly be joined by Jemma Redgrave (Kate Lethbridge-Stewart), Ruth Madeley (Shirley Anne Bingham) and Bonnie Langford (Mel Bush) as members of UNIT.
The same contributor suggested the Sea Devils will appear in the series, however will not be the main focus of the show, which will be set in present-day in a rural English village. The series will be produced by Bad Wolf Productions.
The BBC declined to comment on The War Between The Land The Sea when approached by TV Zone.
Meanwhile, the latest series of Doctor Who has become the BBC's biggest drama of the year so far for younger viewers, as well as consistently being one of the best performing titles on iPlayer.
Season 1 of Doctor Who saw Ncuti Gatwa return as the Fifteenth Doctor, alongside Millie Gibson as Ruby Sunday after they made their highly acclaimed debut on Christmas Day in The Church on Ruby Road. Within the series, the Doctor and Ruby travel through time and space on adventures to unknown lands, to the Regency era in England, to outer space worlds and the sixties.
A BBC spokesperson told The Times: "Overnight ratings no longer provide an accurate picture of all those who watch drama in an on-demand world. This season of Doctor Who premiered on iPlayer nearly 24 hours before broadcast, and episode 1 has already been viewed by nearly 6 million viewers and continues to grow...
"Doctor Who remains one of the most-watched programmes on iPlayer and is the BBCâs top drama for under-35s this year, making it one of the biggest programmes for the demographic across all streamers and broadcasters."
Doctor Who is available on BBC iPlayer in the UK and Disney+ worldwide where available.
-- I don't mind telling you that I am very sceptical about this possibility. Partly because I'm not sure Freema would want to come back to the Whoniverse after the way certain sections of the fandom treated her back in the day, but also because she has a very busy TV and stage career already. I mean, I'd be delighted to see her and Kate Stewart working for UNIT together, but...

Timeline of George Russell to Mercedes
2014: His manager got a hand of Toto's e-mail, gave it to George, he sent his CV to Toto after winning British F4. Toto answered several weeks later, they met up alongside other racing executives in Mercedes, George came there alone and presented his CV to Toto. Toto invited him to join the junior programme but could only offer him a seat at MĂŒcke Motorsport (based in Germany which could mean him moving to Germany) due to Mercedes limited seat connection (wants to put George on PREMA but is a Stroll focused team). George rejected the offer but Toto and George kept in contact for the future. He joins Carlin Volkswagen, a british team (currently Rodin Motorspot)
2015: George enters F3 European with Carlin Volkswagen. Finishes 6th. Due to financial problems, he was driven to the edge because he could no longer continue Formula careers with his own funding. As a back up, he tested for BMW in DTM series. He tops the testing, beating Mercedes and Audi's time (even beating BMW's drivers) and BMW offered him a $$$,$$$ contract. At the same time, he was already an unofficial test driver for BMW.
Mercedes heard of this through an ex-BMW employee who moved to Mercedes and Gwen Lagrue contacts George for the second time (For reference, Gwen Lagrue. Not Toto. Gwen Lagrue has known George since karting and helped him to get a seat in Eurocup Formula Renault while Gwen was at Lotus, but couldn't bring George to Lotus Junior Academy due to financial problems). Mercedes met up with him and explains if George picks BMW, Mercedes will close their door on George and he will no longer be their option.
George and Gwen sat down, agreed on one-year testing period in which George will do sims for Mercedes and they will see his performance on and off track before accepting him as a junior driver. In 2016, he became an unofficial Mercedes Junior Driver and signed up with HiTech GP, a Mercedes powered team for his second season in F3 European, leaving Carlin Volkswagen (because it's powered by VW and Merc don't want that). George finishes 3rd in a completely new team and behind two PREMAs.
2017: George was officially signed as a Mercedes Junior Driver. He got his first F1 test at Budapest 2017 and he joined ART Grand Prix for his GP3 and F2 stint.

my new uni (where i'm starting my phd??!! still wow) has really strong exchange programmes and fellowship opportunities so my (very cool but also very scary) supervisor was like âsince half your research is centered around england and youâve got a solid academic cv you should definitely apply to be a visiting scholar at oxford or cambridge at some point."
and now iâm just sitting here like⊠am i about to live my babel by rf kuang fantasy?? my dark academia dream?? will i at some point be whimsically frolicking around oxbridge in a too-long coat, clutching obscure monographs in beautiful historical libraries??? doing my phd at some of the most prestigious universities in the world??

Cool, Calm, and Collegiate - Chapter 4
Day 4 of @blupjeansweek is the prompt "Duet." I went with a classic.
Read below or on Ao3. Catch up with yesterday's here if you missed it.
-
âAre you going to go tonight?â Lucretia asks. âI know how much you love to socialise.â She smiles so he knows sheâs only joking with him.
He laughs along with her softly, but doesnât answer.
âBarry?â
âUhâŠâ He looks into the crowd and finds Lup. She smiles brightly enough that he forgets a bit of the panic heâs feeling.
âIâm in.â He hears Lup say from across the room.
âYeah. Er, yeah, I think I will.â Barry turns back and nods at Lucretia, who has the grace to wipe the shock off her face quickly.
âBig fan ofâŠâ Lucretia pauses and glances at Lup. â... singing, are you?â
âIâm not a singer, but people are always telling me I should be more social.â Barry shrugs and tries not to look too defensive.
âOkay⊠well, you should know that I double checked the policies and itâs not against any of the guidance.â Lucretia says, as if Barryâs supposed to know what sheâs talking about.
âSinging?â Barry asks. If thereâs an anti-karaoke policy then he absolutely needs to know so that he can read it and find out the story behind it.
Lucretia gives him a long, searching look. âYou donât think thereâs anything else there might be a policy about which I think is relevant?â
Barry thinks⊠and thinks⊠and thinks. âNothing that comes to mind.â
âOkay Barry, good luck. Sing something fun for me.â Lucretia pats him on the arm and pushes him towards the summer staff. Davenport is already there.
âI think itâs good to show the staff youâre not some terrifying tenured monster with a fancy office and no more compassion.â Davenport says by way of greeting.
âThey think Iâm a terrifying tenured monster with a fancy office and no more compassion?â Barry asks, heâs alarmed at the concept. How could anyone think he didnât care, Barry exuded caring, well, okay, maybe he can be slightly gruff, but he carries tissues in case he sees students crying (a worryingly common occurrence on campus around examination period)! He cares so deeply.
Davenport cocks his head. âNot you personally, you know, just the machine of it all. Weâre big scary cogs now. Not the little ones doing laps and laps to help us turn.â
Barry doesnât even begin to know how to reply.
âOh, here we are.â Davenport disappears into the crowd as the sound of a very enthusiastic version of YMCA slams into them.
Barryâs soon absorbed into another group though, one he wishes he wasnât part of.
âItâs so nice that you feel comfortable enough to come out with the other staff.â Lydia says at his elbow.
âHonestly, itâs so brave.â Edward says from the other side.
âThanks.â Barry replies gruffly. He tries hard not to let the exhaustion seep into his voice, but heâs 48, thereâs nothing these two can do to him that bullies didnât do at school 40 years ago and 30 years ago, and if heâs honest, 20 years ago. Barryâs frankly tired of their behaviour.
âSo how long have you and Lup been together?â Lydia asks.
Barry is fairly sure he mishears. âWeâve known each other for nine years.â
âOh, fascinating, long term. Is that why she was allowed to teach on the programme?â
Barry turns sharply and Lydiaâs smile is perfectly in place, and perfectly poisonous.
âI donât make recruitment decisions, but Dr Taccoâs CV is very impressive and I believe she was one of the first hires this year.â Barry uses his most measured tone in the hope it doesnât betray exactly how angry he is. How dare they imply that Lup doesnât deserve her place here. Sheâs smashing all of her teaching, he knows that for a fact (heâs seen the feedback and observed some of her sessions). Sheâs creative, passionate, and knowledgeable. The perfect person to be teaching the topics theyâre looking at. The twins however, theyâre certainly wow-ing some of the students, but they seem to kick up negative energy everywhere they go. Their classes have higher instances of bullying, bigger disparities in learning, and less support for students with accessibility needs than any of the others. They could only wish they were more like Lup.
âMaybe a diversity quota. They do have some people here with⊠interesting backgrounds.â Edward muses loudly.
Barry resists the obvious trap, although itâs difficult. âIâm sorry you think that way, Edward. It must be difficult being so concerned with backgrounds and unable to look past that. Anyway, Iâm going to get a drink.â
He leaves as fast as he can and hopes the bar isnât in the opposite direction. He finds it just as Davenport takes the stage to croon out the beginning of Sail On by The Commodores. Barry would stop to listen, but heâs scared the twins will get him again.
By the time heâs armed with a gigantic novelty cocktail in a hollow pineapple (he asked for what was good assuming itâd be a house beer or something), Sloane and Hurley are singing a particularly avant-garde version of Telephone. âIâll have one of whatever that is.â Lup says to the bar tender, pointing enthusiastically at Barryâs pineapple.
âYou can have this one if you want it?â
âNah, itâs more fun if you have to drink it.â
âIt tastes like sugar.â
âExactly. Delicious!â
He shakes his head, takes a long sip of his drink, and relaxes. Lupâs good for him.
Once the drinkâs in her hand sheâs tugging him towards the stage. âLetâs find the book!â
âOkay?â Barry lets himself be dragged along. Heâs not entirely sure what kind of book she needs right now, but heâs not one to argue with the impulse to read.
âThere!â Lup points at a table to the side of the stage and drags him faster.
Once they arrive sheâs immediately flicking through the pages. âCould you pass me a slip please?â She asks, reaching out her hand without looking away from the book.
Barry spies a stack of small papers further down the table. âThese?â
âPerfect, thanks.â She scribbles on it while he waits. âNow you go!â Lup nudges the book towards him.
He flips the pages gingerly. Theyâre lists of songs, which, in hindsight makes sense, because he obviously agreed to come here, to the place where karaoke happens, which generally does involve singing.
Barry looks up. âLup, I don't know what I'm doingâŠâ Barry knows he sounds irrational, but how is he supposed to do this? It'd be mortifying to embarrass himself in front of the other teaching staff, even more so in front of Lup. He wants her to think positively about him. It's important.
âNo one does.â Lup says and smiles like it's that simple.
âNo, I really really don't know⊠which songâŠ? How do IâŠ?â His questions keep cutting themselves off before he can even really ask them.
âHey, woah! Chaâgirlâs got ya. This isn't about knowing what you're doing or being good or any of that. It's all attitude, my dude. Gotta just sell it.â
âWhat if I haven't got anything to sell?â Barry asks, because honestly, he's got no idea what his karaoke wares would even be.
Lup considers him for a moment, scrutinising him like heâs a particularly tricky puzzle. âDo you want to sit this out?â
âNo.â He says quickly. Heâd say it surprises him, but he doesnât know that it does. Heâs been feeling more adventurous, more sure of himself, more confident. He can try this, itâs fine if he doesnât like it, but heâs a scientist, heâs gotta try.
âAre you sure, because Iâll never force you to do something youâre not comfortable with and I know this is outside your usual wheelhouse.â Thereâs so much concern in her face, itâs nice to feel so cared about.
âIâm trying new things.â Barry raises his pineapple to emphasise the point.
âCanât argue with pineapples.â Lup says. âOkay, how about we sing something together?â
âTogether?â
âYou and I. Canât fall off the karaoke tightrope if Iâm holding you up.â Lup raises herself onto her tiptoes and demonstrates her imaginary tightrope prowess.
âWhat if I pull you down when I fall?â Barryâs still not entirely convinced.
âItâs karaoke, people love it when you fuck up.â Lup replies, unphased.
âOh.â Well if itâs that simple.
âHonestly, the worst you can be is mediocre, which is also fine.â Lup shrugs.
âOkay.â Barry says. âIâll do it.â
âOkay youâll sing with me?â Lup sounds delighted. Itâs nice to know he brought her that joy.
âYeah. Yeah, what shall we sing?â Barry glances down at the page heâs on. âThereâs the Monster Mash⊠thatâs about science?â
âSo it has to be about science for you to sing it with me?â Lup pretends to look horrified. Well, he hopes sheâs pretending.
âNo, I justâŠâ
âI cannot believe our friendship is nothing but grave robbing and reanimating corpses to you.â Lup wipes an imaginary tear from her eye.
âHow aboutâŠâ Barry flips some more pages.â âŠShe Blinded Me With Science?â
âIâm your hot Japanese lab assistant?â
âGood point, nevermind.â Barry flips past that, keeps flipping, finishes the book and starts again.
âCâmon, youâve got this.â
âErm⊠okay, hear me out⊠Short Skirt, Long Jacket?â
âI do like to cut through red tape.â Lup looks pleased.
âSo weâll do that one? Together?â
âThatâs the idea.â
âOkay. Thatâs good. We can just do that.â Barry starts writing the song title on the scrap of paper. âEr⊠how do we know who does which bit?â
âThereâs not really rules. We can just sing all of it or split it up in advance if you want?â
âNext on up we have Lup and Barry Bluejeans. Give it up everybody!â Thereâs a smattering of polite applause.
âOh⊠Sorry⊠I didnâtâŠâ he had thought using the silly name would make her smile, but heâs definitely inadvertently made it sound like they were married instead. Thankfully Lupâs laughing too hard to look upset about it.
âCâmon.â She marches towards the stage.
âAre you the Bluejeanses?â The man who looks like space Elvis asks.
âYep.â Lup says without missing a beat. Barryâs stomach clenches, probably nerves.
âHere you go then.â He hands them the microphones.
âItâll come up on the screen there.â Lup points as she passes him a microphone. âDonât worry about perfect, they can smell weakness, just make it fun, you got dance moves? Crack âem out.â
Barry has dance moves, he does, but heâs not entirely sure whatâs okay and what isnât. Heâll just stay relatively still, maybe some gentle rocking. Itâll be fine.
â
âNAH NAH NAH NAH NAH NAH, NAH NAH NAH NAH NAH NAH!â Lup yells into the mic as Barry gets a bit of breath back from the leaping. Heâs gotta be ready for the next chorus. He finally figured out the back bend.
âI like a girl with a short skirt, and an looooooooooooooooooooooooooooongâŠâ Lup sings as Barry bends back to lay a hand partially on the floor.
âJacket!â He shouts happy and inverted.
â
âThat was incredible.â Barry laughs as they leave the stage.
âThose dance moves Barry! Sildarâs been holding out on me.â Lup sounds positively delighted, it's nice that she's laughing with him. There's no sense of her mocking him.
âWell⊠Theyâre hard to explain without music⊠uh⊠you know.â Barry gestures flippantly.
âHey, if you donât wanna talk about it then fine. But weâre doing the Monster Mash next. Iâve already got the slip.â
âWho am I to argue with the perfect plan?â Barry grins his most Frankenstein-esque grin. This being social stuff had caught on in a flash.
â
Heeeellllllllllooooooo âKo!
Thought Iâd stopped? Think again! Thatâs right, thereâs nothing but postcards, baby. Iâve got a bunch of stamps and Iâm not afraid to use them. I know I already sent you the video, but singing with Barry was hilarious. Heâs nearly as good a duet buddy as you, though obviously not as good, that goes without saying (but Iâll say it anyway or youâll be mad.)
The ridiculous drinks are perfect and Iâll have to take you if you do come visit. Bring Kravitz if youâre worried about missing him while youâre gone (I know, I know, you donât even care, itâs definitely not about that⊠now tell me how many nights youâve spent alone in the last month?) But seriously, Iâm glad youâre happy. You deserve it!
Love you!

I'm currently working on a PhD application (deadline Monday evening). I have four out of the seven statements completed and uploaded, a further three and my CV to upload. Hoping to finish today, sit on it tonight and submit tomorrow morning. The programme was created literally only two months ago, so it's been a bit hectic but from what I understand from the potential supervisor is that as its so new there isn't a huge amount of competition for the spots yet. And the project is the perfect combination of what I studied at uni (Neanderthals) and what I am working on professionally now (environmental archaeology)

So I made a GUI for my parents Campsite. They wanted a GUI on tablets, or maybe a PC where they could have costumers input the needed info from them.
I can make native GUI's on WIndows, Linux, Android but⊠this is not the smartest way to make 95% of programs.
You just write a website in HTML, CSS and Javascript, and have all the code in 1 file (You can easily write your own "compiler" that simply copies CSS or Javascript from many files into one file if you want to work with multiple files⊠And yes, you can write that in HTML and Javascript too)
Here I simply take in the values as strings, sanitize and treat them, and then save them in LocalStorage on the browser.
When you type "Excel" into the first textbox, it reveals 2 extra buttons to download all the data as a CVS file that my parents can open in Excel, and to clear the local storage so the GUI is ready for the next day.
Simple, safe, easy, and will work on any machine that have a browser⊠meaning them all.
Forget chefs kiss. Programmers KISS is what you want :p

Is there much of a difference between a digital media degree and a game design degree when it comes to applying for jobs within the gaming sector?
Or is it dependent on the role you are applying for?
There is a difference between having a degree and not having one in a relevant field, but it isn't as important as one might think. The kind of degree you hold really only matters for the initial application round, where the recruiters sift through all of the applications and decide who gets callbacks and who gets dropped. This is because, realistically, we can't call every applicant back for each open position. Large studios like Blizzard or Riot often have literal hundreds of applications for open positions, and calling everyone back would take an army of recruiters.
This means that recruiters are reliant on the presence of certain keywords in the resume/CV for that candidate to pass to the next round. "BA in Game Design" ticks a box that "BA in Digital Media" likely won't, though the kind of degree is only one of many keywords we're looking for. We're ultimately looking for candidates who can do the work that the job entails - cinematic designer, gameplay programmer, texture artist, associate producer, QA engineer, and so on. The degree is an indicator that a candidate might be able to do the job, but is not a full guarantee - that's what the additional rounds of interviewing and testing are for.
As such, I encourage job seekers to tailor their resume/CV to the role they are applying for - the descriptions of any project and work experience should show how those experiences would carry over to the job that we're hiring for. This should both maximize the chances of keyword hits as well as persuade the humans who read the resume/CV that you're a good fit for the position because you already know how to do the work and have been doing similar work in the past.
If any of you out there want specific assistance with your resume/CV, I would heavily suggest joining our discord server and asking, or reaching out to me privately via TwitterX or Bluesky. There are many experienced developers (including hiring managers) on our Discord who can provide resume/CV advice, and I've done a lot of resume/CV reviews personally as well (both as a hiring manager and for the readers of my blog). [Click here for an example of a CV review] I did for an entry-level gameplay programmer. If you don't want your stuff made public, you don't have to. I promise we'll still help you with the CV.

December 11th, 2023
These photos are from a couple of days ago, at the company party. Oh, just 9 more days of work and I'm going to have a holiday break, can't wait!
I'm applying to Erasmus mundus again this year. Of the required documents, I still have to adjust my CV and motivation letter. There'll be 3 programmes and I wrote a motivation letter for each one. I can only say that I have my favorite and this one goes to my choice number 1! The preliminary results come out on 02/15, I hope I pass this stage, fingers crossed! đ€đŒâš

British actor Larry Dann became a household name in the 1980s through his wholly believable performance as the likeable and dependable sergeant, Alec Peters, in 229 episodes of ITV's long-running police drama, The Bill (2500 episodes 1983-2010). His autobiography has just been published by specialists in British television tie-ins, Oliver Crocker's Devonfire Books.
In the days before internet and social media, it was too easy to assume that mature actors in high profile roles appeared out of nowhere, fully formed, but of course that wasn't the case at all. Actors of Larry Dann's generation learned their craft over many years, through determination, no shortage of courage, and sheer, unrelenting hard graft. Born in 1941, he worked as a child actor in movies, which included a brush with Spencer Tracy, Deborah Kerr and George Cukor, and studied at the Corona Academy stage school from where he built an enduring career on stage and screen.
One of many highlights in Larry Dann's memoir is the fascinating window he affords us into the iconic Theatre Workshop, run by Joan Littlewood, and the production of their huge international hit, Oh What a Lovely War which, according to Michael Billington in The Guardian, not only changed attitudes toward the Great War, it also 'remade British theatre'.
"âŠSo what effect did Oh What a Lovely War have? It helped change attitudes to the first world war. Although we may have read the poetry of Sassoon and Wilfred Owen, we had never before seen popular entertainment express the disenchantment felt at the time by the average soldier. Looking back at the 1963 programme, it is also clear that the production was intended as a political provocationâŠOn a purely theatrical level, the show also did a lot to loosen up the formal rigidity of the British theatre. It was active in demolishing the gap between stage and auditorium, promoted the growth of the musical documentary and encouraged actors to take responsibility for research and developmentâŠ"

In Joan Littlewood's Oh What a Lovely War, which also featured his friend Brian Murphy, who later starred as George Roper in George and Mildred, and who wrote the foreword to Oh, What a Lovely Memoir

Larry Dann's diverse film career included some major Hollywood productions and a joyous experience working with David Niven, who we learn was just as charming, generous and friendly as his image portrayed, and neatly bookended the Carry On franchise, appearing in one of the earliest offerings, Teacher (1959), and in the final three of the original run; Behind (1976), England (1977), and the widely maligned, notorious Emmannuelle (1978).

With Carol Hawkins, Sherrie Hewson and Brian Osborne in Carry On Behind
He also carved out a lucrative sideline in television commercials, working with some of the pioneering directors in that field, including Alan Parker, and Ridley and Tony Scott.
Larry Dann writes with pragmatic honesty about family troubles growing up, and the rollercoaster working life of an actor even with major roles in their CV. Oh, What a Lovely Memoir is a recommended read with some wonderful insights into the evolution of entertainment in post-war Britain.
Larry Dann was one of the first stars of The Bill to be interviewed by Oliver Crocker for The Bill Podcast.
