Ah thank you! So the biggest fic that I have posted recently that I have had sort of director's cut thoughts about is Get You Down.
For those who haven't read Get You Down - this is my Jamie & Rebecca canon divergence AU fic where Rebecca becomes Jamie's 'godmother' after they meet when he is about 10.
I'm going to put the analysis under the cut but for this ask I'm going to focus on the idea of what stays and what changes in canon divergence what if style fics.
I love writing and reading canon divergence style fics. I find it the most interesting thing to think about what impact would the little butterfly wings have and for this fic the big question was "would Jamie being in Rebecca's life for ten or so years before he came to Richmond make each of them worse, better or the same but with a friend?" and I still think there's evidence to support each of those paths and each of those paths would have been a valid route to take.
I chose to go for same but with a friend. And I did that because of what I think the duo would be looking for in a familial relationship, unconditional love. Based on what we know about Rebecca's family life I don't think she has experienced unconditional love. Her father was absent and cheated on her mother at least once. Her mother is flighty, too forgiving of her husband and seems emotionally detached and Rupert, that man never did anything unconditionally. Jamie on the other hand had the exact opposite of unconditional love from his father and I think did have unconditional love from his mother but seems to have the reaction of himself feeling like he has to earn or pay back everything she did for him even though she doesn't want that. Therefore he doesn't see it as unconditional even if she does. So you've got two people who are used to fighting for affection just wanting someone who loves them and cares for them as they are. Therefore they are not going to try and change anything about each other, they just want to be there and involved in each other's lives. Jamie will still be a primadonna and bitchy towards his team. Rebecca will still be angry that she allowed Rupert to ruin her life and their actions will still stem from that and may even be bolstered by having someone in their corner even if they are making bad decisions.
(Which is why in the fic the biggest canon divergence comes when Rebecca steps over the line and reveals she is tanking Richmond. Because there is nothing in Jamie's brain that can justify deliberately losing and Rebecca has unknowingly found the line of Jamie's devotion and stumbled over it into bad news territory.)
My point being - when writing canon divergence like this, it is so easy to see it as an opportunity to make the characters better because they had different influences in their lives but in this case I think it is more likely that the duo would act as an echo chamber of familial trauma and need outside influence to start pushing each other to be better.

ATTENTION DPS FANS: i’m rewriting the Dead Poets Society book right now! I just finished the first scene in the chapel with the four pillars and where Neil and Todd talk to Nolan with their parents. I’m taking script from the actual movie and book but improvising it. This will transcend the book, END HAPPILY (no neil death, no fired keating, no expelled charlie), and go on through their sophomore, junior, and senior years because I want this to be very long! It will be Neil/Todd-centric with ships of temporary Knox/Chris, endgame Knox/Charlie, Ginny/Chris, and Meeks/Pitts. It is on ao3 under @/mqddiegh.

siiiigh. todd autism headcanons because im projecting.
(using they/he/she pronouns for todd in this post. will explain but also if u dont agree i dont care, tw for alcoholism. time period is vague but autism hasnt existed as a legitimate medical diagnosis for all that long, so keep it in mind i guess.)
- cannot for the life of him stand welton's blankets. so itchy, just thin enough to not warm you up enough but still make you sweat, not long enough to cover your entire body. yes im making the blanket line in their poem about actual blankets, a boy needs to vent somewhere.
- beyond terrible temperature regulation, ALWAYS just a little too hot which is made worse by her sensory issues when it comes to wet fabric. constant slight agony and it never really goes away. theyre about 5 minutes away from crying about how uncomfortable they are at all times.
- had god awful handwriting until high school, like his teachers could BARELY read his handwriting it was Bad. OOOOOH OH MY GOD THERES A TRAIN GOING BY I CAN HEAR IT HONKING this is a really ironic thing to be pointing out rn but its sooooo worth mentioning. its still honking this is fun. 🚂. anyway. her parents made her spend an entire summer fixing her handwriting bc that was like the One thing her teachers criticised. its Fine now but their motor function simply doesn't deliver in the handwriting department.
- had a VERY INTENSE special interest in aquatic life + marine biology growing up, like read every book about any ocean animal in any library intense. his parents eventually forced him to abandon it because its "not a good career focus" but he still perks up when anyone mentions fish. once talked neils ear off about the biodiversity of coral reefs for roughly 2 hours, neil took her to an aquarium for their first date. rip todd anderson you wouldve loved spongebob squarepants.
- looooves pets, namely cats, but they have Too Sweaty hands all the time so any animal fur sticks onto their hands and just feels. so awful.
- had a brief period in his 20s where he was definitely an alcoholic, started as a social drinker but got too addicted to the feeling of not having to adhere to social conventions quite as hard, especially around other drunk ppl. eventually went sober after they realised they just Cant Stand the feeling of a hangover anymore. autistic ppl r more likely to develop a dependency on alcohol if we do start drinking. just btw.
- gets a Pretty Expansive vocabulary after actually starting to pursue literature. sometimes his family lightly teases him about using big words but it confuses the hell out of him. its just a word she thought would apply best!!
- soooooo obsessed with what other ppls idea of them is, both in an anxious way and out of genuine curiosity. would never ask ppl what they think of her bc she thinks thats 1) very broad 2) seems compliment fish-y and 3) just gonna lead to "i think ur great/ nice/ whatever filler compliment." but the dream is to sit someone (neil) down and just ask him every single question possible about how he perceives him.
- asks a billion clarifying questions about anything someone asks him to do, gets anxious about how many questions he's asking, tries to just figure it out, freaks out about the possibility of getting it wrong, ends up doing the thing perfectly. weekly occurrence.
- never fully grasped the appeal of religion (most definitely grew up catholic or christian or Something) just bc she could NOT let the lack of proof go. ALSO not an atheist bc the vastness of space scares them out of it. religious beliefs r a weird topic for them.
- suppresses a good chunk of his stims in public bc One total time someone looked at him weird while he was chewing on a sweatshirt string and he was like i gotta stop NOW. eventually develops tics and has to mask THOSE in public too. dear god someone let this girl unmask. also i started ticcing while writing that bc my body does this great thing where i only tic when im reminded of the concept of ticcing. its great and totally doesnt make me think im faking them (faking for who? dunno bc it usually happens when im alone)
- DOES in fact stim around neil bc NEIL STIMS TOO!!!!!!!! joyous day when they found THAT out! gets vocal stims of random lines from whatever play neil is practicing for. YEAA ART THOU THEEEEREE was a vocal stim for a solid week and a half which made neil VERY excited (autistic neil. how i love u autistic anderperry)
- velcro is The most evil vile disgusting material to ever grace this mortal realm. he hates it more than anything ever and i mean that fully. the feeling of BOTH sides, the noise, how easily it comes apart, she hates it all.
this is the gender part
never really viewed gender and gender roles as anything to adhere to beyond the fear of punishment if they dont. finds any social convention relating to gender to be Really dumb and meaningless, bc gender isn't (scientifically) real in any capacity, so why treat it like that? for the longest time just shrugged and said "eh, i guess im a boy" bc thats what she was used to being told, and didn't feel particularly drawn to agree OR disagree. eventually realised on a late night that Wait. i dont Actually care what i am. like yeah im a Male i guess but also im just me. my brain doesnt have a gender and i basically am my brain, right? and then never really thought about it again because that's genuinely how little he cares. adhering the most to canon with that mindset, she never really tells anyone (for obvious reasons on top of the overall apathy) and just lets the he/him happen to her but. in my dream world? agender they/he/she todd anderson. and this is MY blog so those are the pronouns im using from now on. i will forever love talking abt how autistic ppl very often view gender differently than allistic ppl, will forever love talking abt how autistic ppl are more likely to be trans. autism!!!
also yes that entire paragraph is just my view of gender, change the pronouns and the todd mentions and its just me. what of it.

Banter (Ch. 3)

Pairing: Roy Kent x f!Reader
Summary: You break the ice with Roy and befriend Rebecca. Keeley lays down the facts with Roy.
A/N: I started a new job today!! Getting this up and out before the insanity of all of that begins.
(Ch. 1) (Ch. 2) // (Ch. 4) (Ch. 5)
series masterlist
Tumblr media
Shutterbug: Hey
Shutterbug: Can we talk?
Tumblr media
You messaged Roy two days ago and still hadn’t gotten a response.
Maybe he’d deleted the app. You’d certainly been tempted to after your failed date.
But Keeley was right. You needed to talk to him. To properly communicate now that you weren’t dealing with heightened emotions.
That’s what a real adult did. And God above did you want to behave like an adult.
But you were also dreading it. Keeley had made you second guess your assumptions about that night. You’d barely had time to dissect your own feelings about discovering it had been Roy that you’d been talking to for weeks. How that affected your feelings about him. It made sense that perhaps you’d been a bit too hasty in deciphering his own feelings about it based on his unreliable facial expressions.
But maybe Keeley was just giving you false hope. After two days with no answer, it was hard to read into that anything other than disinterest. Or maybe even some outright disdain.
Tumblr media
“Roy!” You shouted.
You were back at AFC Richmond today to meet with Keeley and Rebecca. You had proofs to show them from the shoots and even though you had initially wished this meeting could have been virtual – or better yet – an email.
But now that you could see Roy Kent’s all-black form heading down the hallway ahead of you this presented a unique opportunity for you to put on your big girl pants and attempt a conversation.
Though, even with your ear-piercing shout that had caused every other person walking through the halls to turn and stare at you, Roy seemed to be intentionally ignoring you.
“Roy!” You tried again. Now walking at a near pace just below a jog to catch up to him.
You heard a grunt in response this time.
When you reach him he finally turns around and you try to remind yourself that the glare on his face is a permanent resident so as to not deter you from saying what you need to say.
“I just wanted to clear the air,” You tell him as he stares back at you.
“After last week and the whole… y’know,” You add to fill the silence.
“Mhmm,” Roy grunts.
“I just wanted to apologize if I came across rudely that night,” You continue. “I think we were both just surprised and obviously you wouldn’t have even shown up if you knew it was me so I’m sorry.”
You catch Roy’s bushy eyebrows furrow slightly and he parts his lips as if he wants to interject but he doesn’t say anything.
“We’re going to have to see each other around,” You continue. “Keeley keeps adding shoot days to this project.”
“Can we just… I don’t know, be friends?” You ask. “Colleagues?”
“Colleagues it is,” Roy replies with a nod.
“Great!” You reply with a relieved smile.
“See you around, Roy,” You tell him as you head up the stairs to Rebecca Welton’s office.
Tumblr media
“You’ll be very proud of me, Keels, I just spoke to Roy in the hallway and neither of us yelled or insulted the other,” You announce as you walk through the open door leading into Rebecca’s office to see Keeley sitting in one of the chairs in front of her desk, her legs hooked over the armrest.
Keeley simply grins at you and you hear a small chuckle from the side of the room and see Rebecca Welton in all her glory fixing herself a cup of tea while she glances over her shoulder at you in clear amusement.
“Oh! Hi, Rebecca!” You exclaim as you try to figure out how to backtrack out of the personal information you just shared about yourself with the women signing your paychecks for this gig.
“Hello,” She greets you with a smile as she gestures for you to take a seat next to Keeley while she makes her way to sit behind her desk.
“Is that an impressive feat for you and Roy? Not arguing?” Rebecca asks.
“Um, yes,” You tell her. “This is the first time we’ve managed that.”
“Ah,” Rebecca replies with a nod.
“They matched on Bantr and their first date didn’t exactly go to plan,” Keeley adds.
“Keeley!” You hiss as you reach out to swat your friend and her oversharing.
“Oh, don’t worry about it, it happens to the best of us,” Rebecca reassures you. “I’m happy to share any number of my dating horror stories if it will make you feel better. But seeing as the most glaring one is plastered all over the tabloids every week I’m guessing you have some idea.”
“Rupert Manion’s a dick,” You reply without even thinking about it, causing Rebecca to choke on the sip of tea she’d just taken.
“That’s what I always tell her!” Keeley emphatically agreed.
“I can see why you two are friends now,” Rebecca replies with a small shake of her head.
“Should we look at the proofs before we end up tracking down a feminist rally and burning all our bras?” You offer as you pull your iPad out of your bag.
“Yes, plenty of time for all that after the meeting,” Rebecca replies, shooting you a look.
You grin back. Now you understand why Keeley likes Rebecca so much, you’re already bordering on obsessed with this woman.
You spend the next hour showing them your work and discussing how it can be used for the team’s marketing and communications before you work on coming up with a plan for what else they still need.
By the end of the meeting, you’ve made great headway on your plan and you’re also already ready for a drink.
“There’s a great little cocktail bar a few blocks down, should we toast to your amazing work and our success?” Rebecca asks as your trio walks down the hallway out to the car park.
“I’m always down for a drink or three,” You reply with a grin.
“Keels?” You ask as you turn to see if Keeley is down to come out too. You can’t imagine Keeley ever turning down the option to go out, but you never know. But when you glance at her she’s glancing back down the hallway at something.
“Yes! Totally!” Keeley replies after a moment. I just need to grab something from my office real quick, but I’ll meet you two there, kay?”
“Okay,” Rebecca replies. “Shall we?”
“Yeah, we’ll order your first glass,” You tell Keeley before heading out the door behind Rebecca.
Tumblr media
Keeley turns on her heels once the door closes behind you and Rebecca and makes a beeline down the hallway to where Roy is in his office playing with lineups on a whiteboard.
“Roy,” Keeley calls softly as she pokes her head through the door.
“Keeley,” Roy greets her as he glances up at her briefly.
“I heard about what happened,” She tells him.
“Fucking hell,” Roy replies with a sigh. Trying not to let his irritation at anyone knowing about his vulnerability show. Even if that person is only Keeley. One of the nicest people he knows. But the sympathy or pity or whatever you want to call it in her voice is grating.
“And when you just walked past us you looked like a grumpy little kitty so I wanted to check on you,” Keeley says.
“I didn’t-” Roy hisses before he catches himself and takes a deep breath. “I don’t need your fucking pity, Keeley.”
“I know, but I’m also (Y/N)’s best friend, and I know how hard it is for her to be vulnerable. Frankly, I’m surprised that the two of you ending up on a date didn’t go worse. You two are some of the worst communicators I’ve ever met.”
“Thanks?”
“What I’m trying to say,” Keeley says as she tries to get herself back on track. “Is that you both suck at being vulnerable. And a blind date with someone you already have some tension with was bound to blow up in your faces. And that’s no one’s fault! But she really liked you, Roy, the version of you that she met on the app. And she likes Roy Kent too, as much as she would hate to admit it.”
“If you both want to, I think you two should try again,” She tells Roy.
“She told me earlier that she just wanted to be friends,” Roy replies as he shakes his head at Keeley. “She doesn’t like me. I’d have to be a fucking idiot not to understand that.”
“Because she thinks that’s what you want,” Keeley argues. “She thinks that you’re the one that doesn’t like her and you obviously think the opposite.”
“The two of you need to be honest about your feelings and figure this out,” She tells her.
“I’m going to bring her to Sam’s restaurant opening,” Keeley adds. “Talk to her.”
Roy watches Keeley turn to leave and stares at the now-closed door to the office as he tries to process everything she just told him.
Could you really like him back but have rejected him in some strange self-defense mechanism? Roy would hate the idea of someone doing that to him if I didn’t know in the back of his mind that he had done the same thing.
How is he supposed to set the lineup for the Manchester United game with all of this shit in his head?
“FUCK!” He hisses as he turns back to the board in front of him.
“Oh!” a small voice squeaks and Roy whips around to see Will standing at the door with a box of cleats. “I just- I’ll just um, I’m going to-”
“Spit it out!” Roy huffs. “I’ll just leave these here,” Will whispers as he sets the box down and essentially runs out of the room.
Now what was Roy supposed to do?

Little Red Book Part 1 - Neil Perry x fem! OC
Tumblr media
Introduction: This is my first post so be aware of that! Also english is not my first lenguage so we'll see how this goes.
Warnings: my english, in this story Welton has an all girls school aswell that is in a seperate building next to the boys school.
Summary: "You never talk anything but nonsense! Nobody ever does." The story of how Neil Perry fell in love with that beautiful girl that always had her face buried in this little red book.
Monday Morning
Another year at Hellton. Nothing out of the ordinary.
Neil just sat down in his seat in Mr. Keatings class with the rest of the dead poets. The lesson went by normal. That is, if you can define Mr. Keatings classes as normal.
Towards the end of the lesson, Mr. Keating had a rather interesting announcement to make.
"Now boys, I have exciting news for you. For the duration of this semester, I want all of you to research about any writer. Could be an author, or a poet." he said. The boys began to whisper about the upcoming project. Neil could already hear some of his classmates arguing about the people they wanted to research about. His attention however, was full on Mr. Keating.
"Settle down boys, I'm not finished yet." he stated. "Every one of you will get a partner. This is a two person project, which you will have to present at the end of the semester." The chatter began again, this time louder than before.
"Sir can we decide who our partner is?" Charlie asked loudly as he had to talk over the whole class.
That question seemed to make all of the boys go quiet. All eyes now on Mr. Keating again.
"As I was about to say. You are not the only class that is going to do this project. I will partner every one of you up with a girl from my class at the Welton all girls academy. You will meet your partner next lesson on wednesday." he said and with that, the belll rang signaling for the boys to go to their next class.
Time skip, the dead poets are hanging out outside
"Which of these girls do you think will be our partners?" Charlie asked, eyeing the girls that were also outside right now.
That's when Neil first noticed her. She was sitting on a blanket. Her back leaning against a tree. She was wearing a pair of dark blue flared jeans and a maroon coloured hoodie. Her fluffy looking brunette hair that only reached her shoulders hung slightly in her face. Which was buried in a little red book that she was reading.
"Neil? You there?" Todd asked. He noticed his best freind zoning out.
"You looking at a pretty girl Mr. Perry?" Charlie teased. "What? No. Why would you think that?" Neil asked, his attention now full on his friends.
They all just laughed and the conversation changed course again.
However, as Neil turned his head to look at the pretty girl again, he noticed she was gone.
The following day he did not see the girl anywhere. Or maybe he did, he could not see much of her face because of the book.
Damn that little red book. He thought to himself as he met up with his friends wednesday morning to go to their english class.
Somehow they found themselves in the lunch hall, waiting for Mr. Keating to come back with their partners.
pov switch
I was nervous. What if my partner didn't like me? As my head filled itself with more and more doubts my friend Becca put her hand on my shoulder.
"Relax, it's not like you never saw a boy before." she said.
"No, but what if he doesn't like me and then I'm stuck with him for an entire semester?" I said, Worry clearly visible in my eyes.
However, we did not have time to finish our conversation as Mr. Keating opened the door to the lunch hall and we bagan to enter. I purposefully hid in the back of the crowd as Mr. Keating started talking.
"Let's start, shall we? Now, I will read the names of the partners out loud. If you hear your name being called, please proceed to come forward to meet your partner. I will first read the boys name and then the girls. When you have found your partner, please choose one of the tables here to start with the project, I want everyone to decide on a writer they want to present today." he said cheerfully.
Pair after Pair found themselves and went ahead to sit at one of the many tables in the lunch hall. Becca was still standing next to me when I was called.
"Next we have, Mr. Neil Perry and Ms. Stefanie Krammer. Please come forward." Mr. Keating said as Becca shoved me a little to get me going.
Neil could not believe his eyes, before him stood the girl from monday afternoon.
"Hi" he said a little breathless
"Hi" she answered with a shy smile.
"You want to go sit down?" he asked.
"Yeah sure." she answered as the two began to walk to a table.
As they sat down, Neil noticed Charlie looking at him and wiggle his eyebrows. Neil just grinned and focused on the girl next to him. Now he could finally look at her face properly, her dark blue eyes were even more beautiful than he imagined. They even looked like a mixture of dark blue and grey. He could not stop looking at them.
Stefanie, the name suits her, he thought.
She began to unpack her things from her bag. That's when he noticed the little red book as she placed it on the table.
"The Importance of Being Earnest by Oscar Wilde." he read out loud.
"That's what you were reading on monday." he said before he could stop himself.
"You saw me on monday?" she said, looking surprised. When I saw Neil with his friends on monday I didn't think he noticed me at all.
"Yeah, you were reading by a tree right?" he asked.
"Yeah I was." I answered.
"That book is very little." Neil said as he looked at it again.
"That doesn't stop it from having a lot of content." I said.
"Really? How's that?" he asked, intruiged.
"Well firstly it would be because it is actually a play, not an ordinary book." I said, confidently telling him about my favourite book.
At that point, Neil was even more intruiged. She liked reading plays, perfect.
"And do you only read plays or do you also act in them?" he asked.
"Oh god no. Acting is not for me, I almost had a panic attack when I had to sing a solo in choir in 9th grade." I told him.
He laughed. "Really? I love acting, I was in a play last year. Even got the main part." he said.
"That's so cool, but I can Imagine what your parents must have thought of that. They don't send their kids here with little expectations for them." I said, looking down.
Neil nodded.
"Let's do our presentation about Oscar Wilde. Maybe I could act as him at the end of the semester hm?" he said, trying to change te topic back to our project.
I laughed.
"I'm sure Mr. Keating would love that." I said, laughing a little.
At that point, Mr. Keating stopped by our desk to ask us if we decided on a writer yet.
"Yes, we would like to present about Oscar Wilde, Captain." Neil said.
"Good choice. Stefanie, I wouldn't expect anything else." he said with a knowing smile as he walked away.
Thats Part 1 guys! Hope you liked it!
I'm not sure when the next part is coming since I am in the middle of my exam season but I estimate it's next week or the week after.
Thanks for reading and have a great day!

Their very first year at Welton - Described by Steven Meeks
Tumblr media
Description: the tittle is kinda self explanatory. [1,3k words]
The prompt is inspired by @i-love-steven-meeks :3 I had fun writing this. It's pretty much just my personal hcs for pre-canon and there's a few more that I didn't include here actually, so I might make more posts on pre-canon stuff. Anyway, hope you enjoy <3
🧡🧡🧡🧡🧡.
The year was 1955. I was twelve, and starting seventh grade.
I had only been in Welton for a week and already missed home. It's not that I wasn't grateful for being at such a prestigious academy, but I had no time to do anything anymore. I had hoped I would at least have the weekends to go explore the library, yet soon I realized weekends were barely enough to finish all the assignments we were given.
The other guys in my class seemed to be in a similar situation, maybe even worse, actually. It didn't take long for some students to start realizing how tough the classes were.
There were a few boys that would stand out, as there usually is. Charlie Dalton and Neil Perry were two of them. They would laugh too loud, talk too much, and generally be disruptive. Charlie, contrary to Neil, was a huge back-talker to the teachers. He got particularly mad at a professor one day, when Neil asked to to go the bathroom and was denied. (I think they even called his parents to complain about him). Both of them mostly talked to each other, and it was clear they were already friends from before Welton.
Every once in a while, the class would be asked to pair up for some project. For as long as it was possible, I did the projects on my own. Pair or groups were always stressful and I like things to be done my way, which was often the right way. Eventually, a professor said no and forced me to look for a pair. That was when I started to get to know my roommate, Gerard Pitts, who also did most of his projects alone.
Pitts was quiet to the point no one actually knew what his voice sounded like. He was the tallest in class and seemed to be a very serious guy. At first, I thought he was intimidating, but soon I realized he was just terribly shy.
Being roommates with him was easy. Most of our interactions could be summarized by "good evening", "good morning" and "can I open the window?". And that was that for at least the whole first month, until the exams started. Pitts barely even slept sometimes, studying for hours on end and still barely getting decent grades.
I offered to help, and that's what I consider the beginning of our friendship. Although Gerard himself would disagree. According to him, we officially became friends when he made a reference to Aslan from Narnia and I actually got it.
As we started to learn how to manage all the school work, we were left with some free time that was mostly used to read and chat outside. Everything seemed boring when it rained though.
It was one of those days. A Saturday without homework was rare, and it was truly a shame how much it was raining. Me and Pitts sat on the stairs, feeling bored while watching the older students pass by.
"Hey, you two," someone called. It took us some time to realize we were the ones being spoken to. I looked up and saw Charlie and Neil, who I still hadn't interacted with before. "Want to play hide and seek? We need more people."
Gerard shrugged, so I said yes.
(Sometimes I wonder how many things would've been different if I hadn't done that. A few days ago, out of curiosity, I asked Charlie what his thoughts were on the matter. His answer was: "nothing, we would've become friends some other way", which is nice to think about.)
We played for pretty much the whole day and probably would've for longer if it wasn't for the chemistry teacher telling us to go back to our dorms at night. Neil won more times than all of us together, and Charlie bruised a knee while he ran from Pitts (who was very unsurprisingly faster), but we hadn't had that much genuine fun in a while anyway and I really needed some reason to laugh at the time. It's a day I hold dear in my memories. Little me had no idea how close I would grow to those people. Heaven knows it was hard for some of us to be away from home for so long.
In a couple months, the teachers already hated our quartet. Even though we didn't even particularly misbehave during class, we were insufferable to deal with if we were all together. I'd be lying if I said I'm proud of how I was, I was pretty stupid sometimes y'know. Not that I ever met anyone who likes their 12 years old self.
Something curious I particularly remember is thinking that Charlie was kind of a bully, and being quite confused on how he was even friends with someone as nice as Neil. As the weeks passed though, I started noticing he only picked on me and Pitts if he knew we weren't upset for real. Turns out Charlie was actually the sweetest out of us, in his own way.
He saw me crying once. I will admit that I did cry a lot in my first year. I missed my room, my old school and my parents. Charlie made some joke about me needing to man up, I don't even remember exactly what he said. I think joking was his first instinct, the guy didn't really know what to do. He apologized later, and stayed with me until I stopped crying.
I mentioned that story to him in tenth grade one time, and he didn't really remember. He had just had a big fight with Neil and they didn't talk for like two weeks. It's the only time I ever saw Charlie cry. I did his homework for him that day and let him stay in my dorm for a while. He ended up falling asleep on my bed, so I had to sleep with Gerard. None of us ever mentioned it again, there was no reason to.
It was in that year that Cameron joined the group, because he was assigned to be Charlie's new roommate. I'm impressed they even let Neil and Charlie be in the same room for that long actually. The two scream so much, no wonder they had to switch rooms.
Knox, on the other hand, didn't share a room with any of us. We became friends in early eighth grade, as far as I can recall. My first impression of him was that he was pretty annoying. Time only proved me right, yet we got along surprisingly well. He became a part of the group quite quickly, although he and Charlie would argue a lot.
I can't quite process it's been four years since I became a student at Welton. It feels like a whole life. What's weird is that as much as I hate this place, I wouldn't change it for the world. Some people are meant to meet, y'know. Right now, I'm currently sitting on my bed as I write this, and Pitts is on his bed, snoring. I'm in eleventh grade now, and there's a new addition to our group. His name's Todd Anderson, he's roommates with Neil. He seems nice, I like him already.
I don't know exactly why I'm writing this. I guess I just want to keep these memories written somewhere, for me to read again someday.
Maybe in the future, like a decade later, I'll be able to bring this up if we still make the dead poets' meetings. I hope we're all still together by then, but I'm not too worried about it. Unless some of us die, we'll be.
I gotta go to sleep now. This was fun to write though.

Fandoms: 9-1-1, Ted Lasso
Relationships: Evan "Buck" Buckley/Eddie Diaz, Coach Beard & Ted Lasso, Ted Lasso/Rebecca Welton
Notes: Set after season 3 of Ted Lasso and season 7 of 911.
Sneak Peak:
Beard had only known Evan Buckley, who preferred to be called Buck, for a couple months, but he’d gladly kill for the kid.
“I’m sorry, but, who are you?”
“Legally, my name is actually Willis Hunt. But you probably know me as Coach Beard. Although, technically, you can also call me Uncle Beard; Margie’s little brother, the original black sheep of our family.”

Rebecca Welton spilled her oldest secret to her mother, buried her father, and then broke up with the most wonderful man she's ever been with. Escaping the mourners with a bottle of wine for her childhood treehouse, she wasn't expecting it to be already occupied by Jamie Tartt.

forgive me for leftist-posting abt the gay movie, but the dead poets society is soooo leftist-adjacent in my mind. "mona wtf does that mean" im not entirely sure! something about rebelling against a school with such strict rules and reliance on tradition just to read poetry in the woods seems very.. path to leftism to me. i feel like i can explain better with the original dead poets so ill do that.
warning: this isnt even speculation at this point, its me making shit up about the og poets for the sake of projection + i think it would be interesting + og poets being taught ww2 propaganda is smthn im always thinking abt. if u dont agree, thats more than fine, u have literally no obligation to esp considering this barely makes sense. also this isnt meant to be informative at all so if i get shit wrong then lmk, im neither a historian nor an expert in leftism.
to specify off the bat, ive always hced keating as an avid and involved leftist, although probably not publicly. is there any merit to this? absolutely not, it's entirely just me projecting, so take this with a heaping spoonful of salt.
so, around the time the original dead poets society was formed, we were in the sorta beginning of WW2 (if we assume the dps was founded in 1941, definitely couldve been later. u should read @pencileraser1's post about keating.), and if ur familiar with US history, propaganda surrounding the war was RAMPANT, most commonly in the form of "we want u to join the military!!!!1!!!!" ive mentioned this in a previous post from however long ago that pro-military propaganda was so rampant that they often taught it in schools, no doubt especially so in private schools. now this could ultimately mean nothing in relation to the og poets, they so easily could have eaten it up and thought nothing of it, they did essentially just do homework in the woods. but in my joe biden's america ass brain thats not how it goes, just cuz. to me its sort of a pipeline of start to rebel by forming the dps > slowly realise after talking that the things theyre teaching u in terms of "rahhhh military!!!" is kinda fucked up > growing distrust of us military in general > something something US wasting money on weapons and war and shit > something something anti capitalism.
is this a stretch? absolutely, but it makes sense to me so thats what matters. also the leftist-ness?? exists on different spectrums in my mind, ranging from being against US military propaganda being taught in class to straight-up socialism (keating socialist...) so definitely dont take this as the dps being some sort of mini socialist party, in my mind its just a group of boys who happen to agree abt some aspects of society (hah). i also dont think this translated to any permanent ideals for a majority of the og boys, especially since anti-capitalism didn't exactly mix well with the cold war, the red scare, and all variants of etc after WW2 ended. except for keating, keating stays a socialist, CPUSA and eventual SDS keating (if he chose to stay in the US) are real to me.
now, would this translate to the reprisal of the dead poets (the movie ones)? i doooont think so? originally i was gonna say this only applies in my mind when the US is at war, but the US is kinda always at war, sooooooo. lets just say it applies when the US being at war is sort of a main concern to the general population (ex both world wars, vietnam, war on terror if welton was still around, etc). as to why this sorta hc only applies concerning militarism? i have absolutely no idea, probably something to do with my views on the military sorta long term leading me to my political opinions. but also! the effects that the red scare and mccarthyism definitely were still prevalent in 1959 despite soooooorta dying down around 1957. no doubt the US population's fear of anti-capitalism = ur a russian spy was still there. was that sorta thing taught in schools at that point? not sure, this is also a fictional school so it doesn't really matter and im going on a tangent. i suppose if the dps reprise continued for more than ~3 months then they could've gone down a similar path under the right circumstances? but i doubt it. although leftist neil is quite special to me. neil for SAG! neil for unionisation!
i like applying this logic to other periods, like the 60s for example (i knowwww keating was gone by then, lets just pretend, make it an au i guess) i can definitely see the poets (or some at least) delving into the hippie movement on the down-low, although its easy to call into question whether hippies were an actual group of activists or just a sort of cultural movement. again - i dont know much about the history of hippies so i dont have much to add, lets go with a general "anti vietnam war" ideology to keep things simple. sorta similar to the og poets in terms of war bad > socialism pipelines, and the SDS was formed roughly around this time? peak was in 1968-69, but thats kinda all i got. if anyone enjoys this idea and knows a lot abt that point in leftist history then definitely feel free to add anything on if u want.
in conclusion: mona hates war and the military and projects it onto the poets because they wanted to and also they had a conversation with tristan about propaganda in relation to dps. this is a bunch of random sorta points just strewn together so my apologies for how messy this is.

Hey guys, this is a late update, but I’m writing an Anderperry fic! It’s still a WIP, but I’m close to the end and will not abandon it. I’ll provide the link and summary down below if you’d like to read :)
Summary:
“Once Neil gets to about page 6 when looking over his play, he feels his eyebrows furrow. Now, obviously since the play was about the Poets as a whole, there wasn’t really a main character. There would be a more prominent character in each given scene, but Neil made sure to avoid making himself the one who narrated and directed the entire story himself.
But once he was about halfway through rereading what he had so far for his play, he realized that every character more or less revolved around one Poet in particular. Every scene managed to include the character, there were always in-depth descriptions of what he and his facial expressions looked like, and everyone either went to him for help or obviously valued his opinion highly.
Neil had named the character William, and he was realizing now that he had included a surprising amount of descriptions about this character’s blond hair, blue eyes, and unassuming but devout personality.
Oh shit, Neil thinks to himself, I accidentally made Todd the main character.
Or in which it's 1960, the Poets' senior year at Welton, and Neil's writing a secret play, his magnum opus, but there's just one problem: Todd keeps getting in the way.”

i do understand people being pro royjamie over roykeeleyjamie due to the argument that neither of them deserve keeley and she is above their mess (especially after the finale). but I also feel that sometimes fails to take into account that keeley likes/is attracted to chaos and mess lmao like. canonically she has dated/been attracted to: a series of 23-year-old pro footballers, unhinged season one rebecca welton, roy fucking kent, and a billionaire heiress who was also her boss. I’m not saying it’s healthy but I am saying that her taste indicates she likes a project and I simply think she would be bored in a relationship with someone normal and well-adjusted
