Okay so with the biblically accurate turtles, would them having more turtle DNA make them more dangerous? As in, more unstable? That reptillian brain just kicks in sometimes and raph will open his mouth and wiggle his tongue at random times to try and "lure" prey in, or donnie hisses and snaps and his brothers if they annoy him too much, and especially things like mating season for turtles some get especially aggressive and territorial (poor splinter prolly has so many scars from when they were babies)

Buckle up, this is gonna be long.

Let's start off with the fact I'm not changing anything, so I won't call this an au (that's just how i like to draw the turtles) i'm merely deepening the existing lore and making sense of it, at least for myself.

To explain how their brains came to be and answer the first part of your question I'll start at the beginning. I'll start with Draxum, what his goal was and how he planned to reach it, what he did, some canon related theories and from there and in the process I'll answer the rest of your first ask. 

I don't have many headcanons actually, most of what i did was explaining things with my existing knowledge, this ties to my theories and my love of realistic sci-fi and worldbuilding.

Read this however you want, I'll call this an essay.

Draxum has been planning on the turtles long before he found Splinter. We know he schemed against humanity for years or possibly decades, maybe even a century (He is stated to be a couple hundred years old). With counting on the genocide of the human race he may have gone through countless drafts that for some reason didn't suit him (I could have suggested more efficient ways but then the turtles wont be born), In the end it led him to come up with the idea of warriors for mass destruction. Draxum could have created beast mutants, but I understand the ways in which intelligent fighters could be better, for example they could be taught magic when mindless animals couldn't.

We know that he has been looking for a powerful warrior to act as a surrogate DNA donor to perform the mutation, the moment he found one he would have done it, at least i believe these were his intentions, which must have meant the base subjects, or at least the plans for them, were already done.

[base subject/base/base entity/base creature]= the original specimen the mutation is performed on.

[surrogate DNA]= the additional genetic material which when infused into the mutagen can react with other DNA, the form doesn't matter, and replace up to 70% of the base’s dominant genes.

This may result in a cancerous outbreak and or death.

As in, he removed everything that he deemed unsuitable in his base subjects. He probably had years to do that, to nitpick gens, essentially directing and speeding up evolution, creating a special kind of turtle with both physical, hormonal, and behavioral traits he wanted even before he found a creature to mutate them with. Getting rid of some traits and strengthening/ adding others, heck, he may have even involved prehistoric gens that have gone recessive or added gens that were not in the base creatures at all.

I'll elaborate; part of the instincts were bread out due to being no longer necessary or a hassle in general. The brumation season was removed, but not the turtles ability to brumate, let me explain:

Yokai (I assume Draxus thought to find a yokai DNA donor) are homeothermal, meaning warm blooded. while turtles, our dear ol’ reptiles, are ectothermal, meaning cold blooded (I'll also assume you know what is the difference between them, if you don't, that's what Google is for). Draxum needed to combine these two, making a type of bi-blooded creatures that can slowly adjust to their environment’s temperature. But, if the difference between the internal and external temperatures is too big, they will brumate to minimize the strain on the body and adjust, obviously this takes longer.

About the breeding season you mentioned, the issue in it was it lasted just a month or so and made the subjects aggressive more towards each other (earlier in the research two died of injuries caused overnight) which he really didn't want, so he cut it out their yearly cycle.

 he didn't know he would find his suitable warrior to be a human, but let's say he found splinter as soon as he was shown in the battle nexus (would make sense for him to check there regularly), he would have another 16 years to adjust his base subjects for binding with human DNA until he re-kidnapped Splinter. I also think there were things that were pre-set in the mutagen infusion (you can ask and remind me later, there is much there and here is already enough).

It took Draxum about 13 years to reach the correct formula of mutagen after his lab (and I'm assuming all his documented research) were destroyed by Splinter when he ran with the turtles. And I think the second version is much much different from the first, let's start with the obvious, the second mutagen is already infused with different kinds of surrogate DNA and is inserted by the oozasquitos directly into the bloodstream. It does not affect the general silhouette of the base subject and most importantly, it doesnt change the nervous system.

The first version doesn't just do that, it is its foremost purpose, it is meant to bind the human anatomy with the turtle base in a way that it would make a human shaped turtle, not a turtle shaped human. It essentially packs the human neuronal-cells to body mass ratio compressed into a reptile skull. Only, the reptile brain doesn't go anywhere, it just expands to the point it is capable of comprehending the universe. there are instincts left, they are just drowned out by everything else. there are instances where you are more likely to see them, like in moments of extreme emotional instants, overloads, shutdowns, meltdowns and the such, but also, in their fighting/ defense styles.

there was a major reason Draxum chose to mutate baby turtles, baby turtles he molded into something that can stand the mutation by selectively breeding them for it. baby turtle brains that would forget how painful the mutation was and would likely not suffer from PMSD (post-mutation-stress-disorder) and the likely following after that depression, and they won't need to walk and move all over again because they didn't know that yet.

there is seriously still so much i gotta tell, like, i cut out of this answer so much, about how the mutagen works, what else did draxum do to the turtles, and so so so so so much details i left out because this was getting long and i need sleep

I thus present to you Zedaph as Poudretteite as well as Worm Man as 'Pink Chalcedony' and a fusion of WM with @sweetest-honeybee 's Evil Xisuma design. (Mainly bc i had a better idea of a fusion btwn the two rather than with chrisrin's tango and impulse, but i might figure it out) Thanks for letting me use your design! It let me make Covelite!

Okay so I immediately jumped to Zed being a pink colored gem and stumbled upon a few options. I knew I wanted to pick 2, one to be Zed's gem and the other to be WM's supposed gem, and almost swapped their gem types before learning that there was a chalcedony on the show.

I think it is a fun thing to have Zed and WM insist they are totally not the same person (or gem in this case), and here we see that WM is shapeshifting the gem position around, and that could have worked... if it weren't blatantly obvious that he looks nothing like a chalcedony. I mean look at how close the different colored Pearls look, or Sapphire and Padparacha.

The base form I used for Zed is from a gem silhouette from 'The Answer', which was the only one to have those lil ball hands as the others had at least some semblance of regular hands. So I kept that detail and even made a joke about how Zed can still just pick stuff up, and that even carries over to the fusion

speaking of the fusion.

Other than a ZIT(S) fusion, the most obvious one is w/ Evil X. And I absolutely love Bee's design and brain went nyoom with it, expecially the fact that he's corrupted??? Hello???!??! We saw in the show w/ Jasper and one of the corrupted Jaspers fusing that it left remnants of the other's corruption on Jasper herself. I loved the idea that Zed could get lil sheep like horns post-first fusion with Evil X, so boom, it now exists.

(Also the lil spots carrying over makes it even more obvious Zed/WM are the same gem so haha lol)

As for the fusion itself, I saw that Evil X seemed to have dragon elements, and that fits perfectly w/ my personal headcanons of them being an ender dragon (hybrid), and then we have sheep hybrid zedaph, and what is a fluffy dragon? luck dragon!!!

The front legs are more dragon like, back legs more sheep like (claws and then hooves respectively) and then there is fluffy luck dragon tail! oh! and I had fun with making the mane of hair work as Evil X's fancy collar thing.

Their head is based a lot on Alexandrite's, with the two mouth thing going on. I thought it would go nicely with their concept and i think it works well.

And then other details! I used the distance models style to show off the past reformations of Zed and WM. Also slight drawing mistake, in the lil comic of WM showing off his new corruption marks, he should be in his 'Early s5' design (I'll prolly go back and fix it in the morning fixed 'n added Covelite's colors). I picture the first fusion btwn the two being an adaption of when EX trapped WM in prison, then reappeared being good now to help him escape, but they needed to fuse to do so. (Oh i also used the distance models to do a lil size comparison)

they used to live in a seaside village (childhood friends), ill prolly draw/write more of the group's backstory soon but uh. Random tidbit helen used to get teased for her "creepy eyes" (based off of makima from csm) so now she usually keeps them closed (based off of falin from dungeon meshi).

I have so many headcanons for the species/races in CoH (one of which is that the wings on the heads of celestians and drakes are kind of sensory organs? they them detect stuff. Sometimes they can convey the emotion of a person, like how when helen gets flustered the wings on her head unfurl (when she was a kid she was more mischevious, but her dad could instantly tell when she and marian were plotting something cuz helen's wings were up lol. Shes calmed down as a teen)

Honestly, not sure I can as I have so many of them, and a lot of them are old sketches I'd want to clean up before sharing, but of the ones I've made over the years, here are the most finished ones, ordered into a somewhat organized set

Neko Effect

a series of drawing from mostly 2020-2021 involving a fanfic I also wrote (and kinda left of an infinite hiatus. sorry bout that), involing the two of them getting cursed with a rare new status effect "Neko" which seemingly slowly turned them into cats. Yu adjusts to it pretty well, as he is want to do, while Yosuke has his more panicked response that is both super cute and what makes him a way too fun TF target.

2. Birthday Gift

what started as a birthday drawing of Yosuke for his B-day in 2021 kinda turned into this silly little sequence. of them turning into cats (with me as a cat playing an extra, cuz why not). I think this one was set in the Quirk AU I made? short version, basically going into the TV world and conquering your shadow gave you a super power similar to the quirks of MHA, but with the fun added twist that they were usually based in some way of the persons insecurities.

iirc, Yosuke has a power called Malleable, which was basically shapeshifting, but without the ability to directly control it. or at least, the people around him and his environment seem to have a greater control over what form he takes than he himself does. Yu has a power called Mirror, the ability to copy other people's power, holding only 1 at a time, and usually without the downside. for copying Yosuke's Malleable, Yu is still quite susceptible to outside influences, though he does have a small bit better at controlling it while he has it.

a lot of my random, usually less explicable TFs of them can prolly be tossed into this camp somewhere.

3. Commissioned Colorings

so, I have literally hundreds of sketches and doodles, all posted to my Patreon as one of my rewards. I draw 1 doodle (more closely a finished line art) a day and post it to my Patron discord, and every month post that months collection of doodles to Patreon for record keeping. I have been doing this more or less every day since 2021, so that's nearly a thousand sketches that can range from more tf sequences like the dogsuke sequence i recently colored, to more general ideas for one of my game projects I work on. if a patron likes a specific daily doodle and wants it specifically finished up, like these above, they can commission me at a significantly reduced price to take the drawing from a doodle to a completed work. because otherwise its left to my whims if I feel like coloring them

4. Seriously, so many doodles

seriously, sooooo many doodles. here's just a few i feel like sharing, plus one of my livestream sketch sessions (oh yeah, I do a free sketch request livestream every 1st sunday of the month over on twitch btw) which got a monkey-yu and batsuke, plus a chibi sketch of them being silly.

An Incomplete list of why I think Metatron is sus

Ok here’s my 1am, rambling, slightly drunk thoughts on Metatron cuz i have brainrot and can’t get my inebriated ass to think about anything else so,,, ik it’s been done before BUT—

1) He knows how to interact with humans

Every other angel in this show is a complete train wreck when it comes to interacting with humans. There is not one angel that resides in heaven that has any idea of human norms, customs, propriety, behavior, etc. They all just fumble along and think they’re doing well based on what other angels (who are just as clueless as they are) tell them.

But Metatron walks into the coffee shop and has an entirely normal interaction with Nina—he orders his coffee with no hitches (knows what oat milk, a latte, and almond syrup are), and even makes some perfectly ordinary (if a little bit boomer vibes) small talk with Nina about the name of the shop.

So this begs the question, how the hell does he know how to interact with people? It obviously doesn’t come naturally to angels (as we see plenty of times), so how?—especially if he’s spent most of his existence as merely a floating head doing the bidding of God. How does he know how to interact with humans so well?

One drunk brain theory I just came up with—DEMONS.

Demons seem to have a much better grasp of humans and how they interact, speak, and behave—for example, Beelzebub. They obviously knew human behavior and conventions much better than Gabriel, who didn’t even know what music was or to say “thank you” when given something. Granted we don’t see a ton of demon/human interaction in the show (at least that my last brain cell can remember atm), but what we do see is much more ordinary than any angel/human interactions. So is/was Metatron a demon, or related to hell in some way? Is that where his people skills come from?

Additionally, the demon prowess for human interaction could come from their jobs on earth. It’s mentioned numerous times that there are jobs in “temptations” for demons, and Fufur (i think that’s his name??) mentions that it’s not for him cuz he gets “all double tongue tied”. So demons maybe have some natural ability when it comes to talking to humans, or can at least learn, since a nonzero amount seem to have jobs that require conversing with humans.

So perhaps Metatron isn’t a demon, but fills the heavenly equivalent of hell’s “temptations” role. I’m also remembering at this point that Aziraphale was definitely said to do something of the sort (going around blessing humans), but perhaps he wasn’t the only one. I think it’s definitely possible Metatron was also doing something on earth, otherwise how does he understand human conventions so well?

There’s prolly more analysis to be done here and more to be said so pls feel free to continue on this train of thought, I just can’t squeeze anything more from my drunk and shriveled brain cells.

2) He wears a dark gray suit

Dark fucking gray. This bitch wears a suit that is dark gray. In no other scene or context do we see another angel wearing a color as dark as that, so why is the Metatron wearing it?

One could argue that his explanation is the simplest—“this look draws far less attention”—but i just don’t buy it. Aziraphale has been on earth for 6000+ years and he has always worn very light colors—white, cream, beige, mint, etc.

While he occasionally wears darker colors, that is only in the very specific context of his magic shows (both in s1/2). He wears the dark grays and blacks and the bright teal because he is putting on an act—he’s getting into character. No different than Crowley transforming into the light gray suit in heaven—we’ve seen enough of them to know that these are exceptions to the rules, and that these outfits aren’t something that Aziraphale or Crowley would wear under ordinary circumstances.

So what’s up with the Metatron’s outfit?

No wonder the other angels don’t recognize him—he doesn’t have the trademark angelic look. But why? Is or was he a demon, or in some way related to hell? Is he not an angel at all? Does being the “voice of God” disqualify him from angelic status or something? Is he the yin to God’s yang perhaps? Idk if there’s more to this or not, but my brain cells are slowly dying and I can’t think of anything more coherent; feel free to respond and add shit that makes actual sense.

3) He eats/drinks human foods and beverages

Ok ok ok disclaimer to start—we don’t see him eat anything and he doesn’t actually say that he does, but he definitely implies that he (at the very least) drinks human beverages. With that implication I feel like we can also stretch it to the safe assumption that “ingesting things” also extends to human food.

Wirh the exception of Aziraphale, who has been on earth for over 6000 years and was originally tempted by Crowley into eating human cuisine, we don’t see or hear of another angel ingesting… well, anything.

Please correct me if I’m wrong, but I don’t think we see another angel eat or drink anything throughout the series. We see Beelzebub and Gabriel sit down with drinks and food at the pub, but Gabriel doesn’t drink or eat. We see Muriel with a cup of tea from Aziraphale, but they never drink any of it. Gabriel s1 even remarks “I do not sully the temple of my celestial body with gross matter” or smth similar.

So what’s going on with Metatron? He waltz into the bookshop holding a goddamn oat milk latte with almond syrup and not only offers it to Aziraphale, but encourages him to drink it, as “[he’s] ingested things in [his] time”.

You what now???

Angels hardly even deign to interact with physical objects (as seen with the matchbox & Muriel with the cup of tea and with books), let alone drink a damn coffee.

But the Metatron seems to have no issue with it. Idk if it’s just me, but that seems incredibly sus. Idk if anything I’m writing is even making sense anymore but like Metatron? SUPER SUS.

4) His miracle doesn’t sound as angelic as the rest of the angels’ miracles

Now this one is a little harder to pin down and much more subject to individual interpretation, but it inspired this post so I had to include it.

The Metatron’s miracle.

After he and Aziraphale are walking across the street toward the Dirty Donkey and he mentions the second coming, there is the sound of a miracle. Let’s ignore for now what the miracle actually was (I think it’s widely agreed that it’s him summoning the elevator to heaven, but a friend recently pointed out that the elevator existed previously for Crowley, Muriel, and Shax, so who knows?) and focus instead on the actual sound of the miracle.

Mary Holden was so kind as to put together this very handy list of miracles from the show, as well as categorize them by sound and who’s performing them (well done Mary! We all share the brain rot, and the fandom thanks you for your service).

While watching this I noticed something about Metatron’s miracle—it doesn’t entirely vibe with the rest. It doesn’t have quite as many ringing high notes as those of other angels. It seems a bit more muted to me, similar to the demonic miracles that are performed. This could entirely be a coincidence, but it seems to me that Metatron’s miracle sound is most similar to Hastur’s from s1 in Crowley’s flat.

Hastur’s does seem a bit more vibrant, but maybe I’m just overthinking this and my brain isnt working properly cuz aLcOHoL but,,, lmk what y’all think ig? I’d love to hear your thoughts, as well as any more things you guys have caught that make the Metatron suspicious, and if anything I wrote tn made an iota of sense lmao. This page! This page make me feel things that I can't put words on! Notos last request, appreciating the stars with saint and that sentiment of a sad peace, of what is to come.

Love this panel! I like how you conveyed that they are Seeing, appreciating and waiting.

That Notos was capable of putting almost all of themselves inside an overseer is impressive! It makes me want to make an OC based on that.

And now Notos is becoming one of my favorite, along with Zephyr and Crows.

it's!!! not really puttin themselves into the overseer (so feel free to snatch that idea n run wild with it), it's more like replacing the puppet with the overseer- its umbilical equipment being the radio signals and the Root signal. what the overseer can retain information-wise sucks ass the further it goes (+ Notos fell just like everyone else so its neurons are limited as well), but the most important thing about it was that replacement of the puppet since Notos sees the thing as largely useless

thank fuck Euros collected some experience with tinkering with overseers, otherwise that monstrosity of an overseer that Notos has wouldn't exist at all gjklsdcmsld that thing can Zap shit with the same power as a well sized centipede

headcanons under the cut

if you didn't read my previous post on slugcat headcanons, then you prolly should as i'll leave out some stuff i explained there.

basically though, there is two slugcat species or subspecies. still not sure what they count as. We have slugcat felis (surv, monk, riv, saint) and slugcat panthera (arti, hunter, spear)

Spearmaster and rivulet are modified, so it's more saying what type was used as a base.

Gourmand is a special case, as they are actually a hybrid! The hybridization caused some weird stuff to happen, and they actually have a form of gigantism. It also caused them to have a weird digestive system, letting them eat meat but not process it well. This is probably the reason behind their size as well. Gourmand is not only fat though, they are buff! it's just not visible. They're like the equivalent of a strongman.

Saint is a bit special, as they're so far in the future. They're still felis, just how it evolves in the future! I'm not sure if it world require it's own taxon name, though.

It requires going into lineage trees, but a rough timeline chart should explain things.

Panthera and Felis were seperate, but ended up merging together (gourmand is an example of this). And over time, Felis evolved to deal with the cold. Leading to saint. Thick, long fur, and a larger body do this.

Saint is likely also modified as well, mostly their grapple tongue.

Anyways. This also shows the general stature of the slugcats. Not heights, but their builds at least. Some of their colors / patterns were changed / removed for better visibility, as well as being easier to draw. I kept important details though!

As for ships i won't draw? tbh, i think the main thing that keeps me from drawing most any ship is more based on how easy the characters are for me to draw. I feel like usually when people make requests and don't get stuff back its less out of not being willing and more of not being able. Like??? some of these fuckers are so kibbled it makes me want to bash them to dust with a rock.

as i get more confident with it though I'll prolly draw most things! I feel like most of it is just personal taste. I try not to worry about.. drama and stuff. Toxic yaoi is just as fun as regular yaoi tbh.

btw, i am a gay man, i think calling gay shipping yaoi is fucking hilarious.

So instead of looking into the Falz seal I whipped up this Algolian seal but took an alchemic approach to it. Almost looks like an upside down Philosopher’s Stone. This was mostly free-handed in Photoshop if you can tell by the line width inconsistency, but it was much easier than on paper. The Marquee and I aren’t BFF’s as you can see my text is even a lil wonky, so I just draw a big dot then erase the middle with a slightly smaller dot!

I also stuck with the PSO font because I already write my magic in it so its fitting in all ways. Here’s a breakdown of it if you’re curious but I mostly just wanted to share the design cause it was fun to come up with :3 

This is a prosperity spell based on the middlemost circle of text. The outside circle reads “And why may you multiply this medicine”, the inner circle reads “So you have more than you need to spend”. These quotes are from George Ripley’s “The Twelve Gates” or “The compound of Alchemy” regarding the multiplication process in alchemy. Changing the outer circle of text would change the process, and changing the middle text would change its intent.

The planets chosen; Jupiter, Saturn and Mercury were picked in my best attempt to follow the “Body, Mind, Spirit” / “Salt, Mercury, Sulfur” concept in Alchemy, as well as best representing prosperity. The names of the Zodiac they rule over are across from them, where the photon blasts would go, followed by their symbols in the space below. I’m fortunate the planets I picked all ruled over 2 Zodiacs otherwise I’d have much more trouble writing this lol. In attempt to keep the rule of 3′s, I added the symbols for the metals/minerals in correlation with the Zodiacs and the planets that rule them. I did have to cheat a bit though. Non metals are present such as Salt and “Crystal”. I’ll get into the messy bit in a sec. Here’s the breakdown;

♃ Jupiter: Metal- Tin ♃ | Zodiacs- Sagittarius ♐︎, Pisces ♓︎ | Zodiac “Metals”- ♐︎ Salt 🜔 & Tin ♃ , ♓︎ Neptunium ♆ & Silca (used symbol for crystal which is n/a)

☿ Mercury: Metal- Mercury ☿  | Zodiacs- Gemini ♊︎, Virgo ♍︎ | Zodiac “Metals”- ♊︎ Brass(n/a) & Mercury ☿, ♍︎ Copper ♀ & Phosphorus (n/a)

♄ Saturn: Metals- Lead ♄, Iron ♂, Steel (n/a) | Mineral- Sulfur 🜍 | Zodiacs- Capricorn ♑︎, Aquarius ♒︎ | Zodiac Metal:- ♑︎ Platinum(n/a)

So with everything laid out, we can see Saturn has a few metals in association whereas Mercury and Jupiter only have 1 main one. So some things had to be filled in, where Saturn I had to pick and choose from.

With Jupiter’s lacking of fitting metals and minerals, since salt is a direct association with prosperity as is Jupiter, and a necessity in the formula, it got placed here. We also have Neptunium which I know completely different planet but is all Pisces had for me to work with. Silca is a mineral in association with Jupiter but there isn’t a symbol for that to my knowledge so I used “crystal” instead.

Mercury is as close to normal as it can get but prolly don’t fuck with actual phosphorus less you’re doing actual alchemy/chemistry, its there cause its a mineral directly linked with the planet Mercury and Mercury only has one obvious metal to it. (incorporate phosphate minerals, such as turquoise)

Saturn is a fucking mess and can be chaotic to work with. Fortunately it has a bunch of metals its associated with as do both Aquarius and Capricorn. So I picked and chose from what is most stable. Sulfur is thrown in to follow the formula and a mineral associated with Saturn.

The energies work as Jupiter generates, Mercury directs or “communicates”, Saturn contains, stabilizes and prolongs.

I’d also like to mention the alchemy processes the Zodiac signs represent;

♊︎  Fixation, ♍︎ Distillation, ♐︎ Ceration, ♑︎ Fermentation, ♒︎ Multiplication, ♓︎ Projection.

Briefing this from a non spiritual standpoint; Fixation: A liquid or gas to a solid. Distillation: To seperate & purify. Creation: Addition of water through absorption. Fermentation: To cook over time. Multiplication: To increase potency Projection: Transmute / Change anything into anything (ultimate goal) However we know alchemy is chemistry now, so most people of this era when talking about alchemy are talking about spiritual alchemy.

The symbols inside the 3 circles pointing at the planet symbols are the alchemy symbol for “essense”, the tridents coming off of the circles toward the text use the planets to create the alchemy symbol for “compose”. Here is my reference sheet of Alchemy symbols in PSO lettering, I circled the symbols used. (There are a variety of symbols for some of the same thing out there, this is what I’ve compiled so far with keeping the symbols simple)

Trish is one of my favorite jojo chars and by that I mean that I really like the version of her I made in my head based off the potential I think the series forgot about. I love how she’s set up as a pragmatist in an awful situation and her parallels with Giorno wrt fatherhood, morality, being 15, etc but i really wish she could’ve gotten more focus. Also had a lot of drawing everyone’s hands around her and getting to personalize them.
