Hi All, welcome to the 2024 edition of the annual be_compromised epic summer promptathon!

Been wanting to jump into the fandom but not sure where to start? Now’s the time. Newbie or a lurker? Here’s the perfect opportunity to say hello! Not been active in the fandom for a while? Welcome back. Promptathon is a fun, no-pressure environment where you can post zero to as many prompts as you like, zero to as many fills as you like, and join in the squee or just quietly enjoy the fun.

We’re a Clintasha (Clint Barton/Natasha Romanoff) community that welcomes ALL THINGS MARVEL. We’d like Clint and/or Natasha to show up in prompt fills somewhere, but what that means is up to you - individually or as friends, lovers, spouses, partners, gen fic, ANYTHING. Yes, that means we also welcome other characters and pairings (and threesomes or moresomes.)

If that sounds like the kind of party you’d like to join, please read on for the event timeline, how to leave prompts and fills, and a few rules to make sure everyone has a fun time.

TIMELINE

TODAY: Prompting starts! GO, GO, GO MONDAY 5 AUGUST: Now is when you can start leaving fills for prompts! (You can also keep prompting) MIDNIGHT SUNDAY 29 SEPTEMBER: Promptathon, both prompts and fills, ends at midnight in whatever your timezone is. 

A masterlist will be posted shortly after the event ends, on Dreamwidth and tumblr.

HOW PROMPTATHON 2024 WORKS

Promptathon takes place on Dreamwidth, but you do not need an account to prompt, fill, or join in. Anonymous comments are enabled; if you comment anonymously please consider including your online handle(s) in your comment so we know who you are and can credit you!

LEAVING PROMPTS

Please post each prompt in a separate comment to this post.

Prompts can be anything – simple or elaborate, words or pictures, songs or poems, lyrics or phrases, anything that could inspire a fanwork. Use your imagination. Go wild! You can also re-use prompts from previous events, whether they were filled or not.

You can leave as many prompts as you want. We’re serious. Keep coming back. We want as many prompts as we can possibly get.

Please put a spoiler warning at the start of your prompt if it contains spoilers/speculation relating to any Marvel films/tv shows released in the last six months.

SUBMITTING FILLS

Comment in a reply to the prompt that you are filling.

The subject line of your comment should be: ‘FILL: title, rating.’

You can then post your entire fanwork in the comment if it’s short enough AND/OR you can post your fanwork anywhere else on the internet and post a link to it in your comment.

Your comment must also include: > Title > Rating (ie film ratings or AO3 style ratings) > Any warnings OR you can say ‘choose not to warn’ (think about the AO3 warnings or take a look at our comm guidance if you’re stuck) > A spoiler warning if your fill contains spoilers/speculation relating to any Marvel films/tv shows released in the last six months. (Not everyone has Disney+/can get to the cinema.)

Following these guidelines 1) makes it easier for people to find your fills during the event as a one-stop shop, and know what they’re clicking on and 2) makes it a LOT easier for your mods to create a masterlist at the end, without missing any of your fills. Thank you!

If you’re posting your fill elsewhere, consider including a teaser to catch people’s attention! If you’re posting on AO3, we have a ‘Community: be_compromised’ tag and a promptathon collection available if you like those sorts of things. If you’re posting on tumblr, let us know or tag it with ‘clintasha’ so we can find it and reblog on the be_compromised tumblr. We want people to be able to find and appreciate your fills <3

There’s no length requirement on fanworks submitted. You can create drabbles or epics, vids, art, fanmixes, anything at all; it’s just all about getting creative! Fills do not have to be complete or completed during the promptathon. You can fill as many prompts as you want, and prompts can be filled multiple times by whoever wants to fill them. You can fill more than one prompt in one fill, or make a series out of fills for various prompts. Zero pressure; all fun.

QUESTIONS AND SQUEE

We have a general thread for comments, questions, and general chat as the first comment thread in this post. We welcome reactions, discussion, and cheerleading in replies to prompts and fills. (This is where posting each prompt separately and labelling the subject line of fills helps to keep things organised.) We also have a be_compromised discord server if you prefer a chatroom-style space. (Although as above, all prompts and fills will be in this post as a one-stop shop.) Commenting, cheerleading, and enthusiasm is a huge part of fandom and you are very welcome to join in! Yes, even if you don’t post any prompts or fills.

It's 2024. Are you still thinking about movieverse!Cherik? Because I am.

For the past several months, there's only been a very slow trickle of posts/fics in the xmcu cherik tag. Let's try to breathe some life back into this incredible pairing!

With one clear winner of my poll, here's thirty prompts for the thirty days of April. (This is a super chill, laid-back event---do these in any order, interpret them as loosely as you like! Create in any medium! Fic, art, gifs, meta, incoherent screaming about the otp…all winners in my book.)

The only rule here is to cherik too close to the sun. Alright. Here are the prompts.

Doesn't really even need elaboration! Write that horrifically slow slow-burn. Gif every time McAvoy made insane fuck me eyes on screen. Make a playlist of songs about impossible love.

2024 Fic Year in Review.

@cassiesinsanity and @inkvoices did a fic year in review and I wanted to know the numbers of mine. I had done it for most other things like books and games etc. thanks for the idea guys.

Thanks @broken--bow <3 for helping me compile some of the fic and numbers, it was way more than I thought.

We did some ask games in Feb and April totaling around 4K, and a little over 20 of them across the months.

Black Widow Fest was a big one this year, and for once (proudly) I got the main fics up on ao3. There were also some short fics in there around 1.3k

The Truth the Dead Know - 3.6k (one of my fav fics of the year I think)

the letter be - 2.9K

Here Again Now - 19.6k

I loved @be-compromised promptathon - especially the parallel fic with @cassiesinsanity, that was so fun to see the different takes - this was a joy. Promptathon totaled around 3.2k… I still need to put them onto ao3. Maybe a goal for the year.

I worked on the Nat goes missing fic, which is a baby of mine which went from 53k- 65k and let’s face it, still has so much to go. It’s the go to fic when I want to just write pure angst and healing. She’s a beast.

Salt Roses (9k) was a stand alone fic, which was taken from all the prompts of April and weaved into one fic. It was such a challenge, to take such different ideas and sort them into one story but I quite enjoyed the challenge.

Ignite your bones was this years whumptober, and what a fun fic it was. I’ve always wanted to delve into Natasha’s early shield days, and chose the really early days, I don’t think I quite captured all the angst and whump of it, and potentially felt that it could have been darker(?) idk, but I did so love writing it. It was a behemoth at just over 53k.

Lastly was advent, which I forgot about really, so glad that we got 12 out, with the ask game and short fics which was about 3.7k.

So all up maybe around 111k words, but really, I don’t think it’s the words. I think my hopes for this year would to be some prompts on @be-compromised where possible, continue to build some connections with friends through fic, and write what I want to.

Anyway. Thanks for following along. Fic is always community, and I am lucky that be-compromised is here, and everyone that follows the fics. It means more than you all know. <3

2024 Fic Year in Review

Please feel free to play! I love to see what other people have written, and often spot fic I’d love to read that I missed 💜

So, every year I aim to publish more words on AO3 than the year before, just as a nudge to get fics finished. (The great thing about a low word count year is that publishing more the following year is easier, ha.) This year I published 16,991 words, which was less than last year but more than in 2022 and I'm pleased with that 😊

In January, I finally finished a festive fic for @cloud--atlas that I'd started the Christmas before: Retail, Love, and Other Festive Poems It was fun to write another prose-poetry fic.

In July I wrote infinity in the palm of your hand in response to the be_compromised 'one prompt challenge' as a warm up for promptathon, and managed to complete two fics for promptathon itself: Progress and After The Threesome.

I then finished off the year by writing over 8k for the second year running in the be_compromised Secret Santa 2024 exchange with Ain't A Saint!

To the surprise of no one, three fics were Clint Barton/Natasha Romanoff and two were Clint Barton/Natasha Romanoff/James Barnes, and all AUs.

Behind the scenes, I also chipped away at four WIPs (as opposed to just adding notes or staring at them in hope) and, of course, scribbled a bunch of ideas for promptathon fills that I'll probably never write 😂

Secret Santa 2024 Sign Ups Explained

Hi All and welcome to Secret Santa 2024! 

This is a Clint Barton and/or Natasha Romanoff end of year fic exchange where matching is based on prompts and everything is anonymous until the author reveals at the end. You don't need to be a member of the be_compromised community to take part, however almost all of the exchange will be taking place on AO3, so you will need an AO3 account; if you don't have one and would like an invite code please contact a mod. Prompt Choices is the one element that will be done on dreamwidth.

Whilst this is labelled a 'Secret Santa' as it takes place in the run up to Christmas, fics do NOT have to be related to Christmas, New Year, winter etc. We welcome celebrations of other holidays and no theme at all. However we understand if you would rather not take part due to the labelling. We wish you all a happy holiday season <3

TIMELINE

SIGN UP: from now until 16:00 GMT Monday 14 October. CHOICES POST: will go up as soon as possible and be available until 16:00 GMT Sunday 20 October. ASSIGNMENTS SENT OUT: we aim to have these to you within the following few days. (If all participants make their choices earlier, then we'll aim to get assignments out earlier!) HOW TO TAKE PART IN THE EXCHANGE:

1) SIGN UP HERE AT AO3.

In the REQUEST section in 'Details/Description' you must include: at least 4 prompts and no more than 6. These can be anything! From a one word prompt like 'kisses' to a specific AU idea. Past Secret Santa prompts (such as 2023 here) or promptathon prompts (2024 here) may be helpful if you get stuck. If you really don't mind what gift you receive then please feel free to say so, but you MUST leave at least 4 prompts for your giftee to have something to work with.

You are also welcome to include in the 'Details/Description' section: - a Yes Please note: a brief list of things you like that aren't as specific as a prompt, such as a preference for the comics or film, sexy times, female friendships, hurt/comfort etc. Your gift giver isn’t obliged to use them, but it can help give them some ideas. - a No Thank You note: anything that you really do not want, such as character death, angst, fluff, anything that might be triggering for you etc. Feel free to specify if some things are just a rather not and some are no-way, not-ever.

Matching will be based on the information from the 'Details/Description' section ONLY. Optional: you can use 'Ratings', 'Archive Warnings' and 'Categories' to list all those that you would be comfortable receiving. You can use 'Characters', 'Relationships', and 'Tags' to select things that you like (from all canonical AO3 tags). As above, your gift giver is not obliged to consider or use these, but it may help them with ideas.

In the OFFER section the only thing you need to complete is the 'Details/Description' with: - I'd Rather Not: things that you don’t really like to create or feel uncomfortable with, anything you don’t feel confident in writing or a genre that isn’t your strength. As we have also been running this exchange for a while, also if there are any people you've written for a lot of times before that you'd rather not write for again this year. - Absolutely Not: Things that are an absolute no for you, such as anything triggering, character death, things that you will not do.

2) The prompts and any additional notes you included in the 'Details/Description' section for your REQUEST will be anonymised and posted to the community dreamwidth. You MUST reply in a comment to that Choices Post (comments will only be visible to the mods) with your top three picks of which requests you’d like to create for. You don't need a dreamwidth account to do this; you can comment using OpenID or anonymously, however please remember to include your AO3 handle in your comment so we know who you are! (More information will be available in the Choices Post.) This will be available as soon as possible following the closing of sign ups until 16:00 GMT Sunday 20 October. (If all participants comment earlier we will try to get matching and assignments out faster.)

3) Your prompt choices will be used by the mods to do manually match participants in the exchange. We can't guarantee that you’ll get your choices, but we’ll do our best keep to your choices as much as possible! Where there are any issues with matching or where participants have not commented to the prompt choices post as in (2) we will use your OFFER notes to help with matching and avoid your 'Absolutely Nots'. (In rare cases you may get a request that has something it in from your ‘rather not’ section that you can ignore, because the request has other prompts in it or because it’s not a deal breaker for the requester, but these are things that we will make sure you don’t get in your assignment if we can absolutely help it.)

4) Assignments will be sent out and you'll have until 16:00 GMT Monday 9 Decemberto submit your gifts (which aims to cover our usual 'midnight on the Sunday whatever your timezone).

5) We will reveal gifts in the week leading up to Christmas (aiming for 16 to 19 December; exact dates to be confirmed depending on any pinch hit requirements) and authors will be revealed the weekend before Christmas (aiming for 22 to 24 December).

2023 Fic Year in Review

Please feel free to join in if you'd like. I love to see what other people have written, and often spot fic I'd love to read that I missed!

So, every year I aim to publish more words on AO3 than the year before, just as a nudge. (The great thing about a low word count year is that publishing more the following year is easier!) This year I published about 21,600 words compared to 13,190 words in 2022! I say about, because unusually for me I had to do a bit of maths on a group project and a multi-chapter fic...

In January I contributed to the 31 Days of Winter project, organised by @cassiesinsanity in honour of the lovely and missed @crazy4orcas First time I've taken part in any kind of large collaboration for a long time and Cassie made it all run smooth. I wrote one happy chapter, one somewhat less happy with deaf!Clint, and enjoyed cheerleading on a few others.

In May I posted a second chapter to the only live WIP I have: these are the days. (Because of this fic I now can't make myself start posting any WIPs until the draft is actually complete.) I found the second chapter mostly written on my laptop, tidied it up, and went for it. Amazingly what you can do when procrastinating on other fics, ha.

I wrote two short and sad/angsty fics for the @be-compromised summer promptathon: A Different Call and this a very old story

And finished the year with Windows to the Soul for the @be-compromised Secret Santa. (I meant to meant the minimum word count for this, but @lostemotion's prompts grabbed me and I ended up with over 8k. Oops?)

Unsurprisingly all Clint Barton/Natasha Romanoff or Clint Barton & Natasha Romanoff and all AUs I think, unless one or two could be classed as missing scenes in canon. And overall a bit darker in tone than last year it seems.

Behind the scenes, WIPs I actually worked on in 2023 (as opposed to added notes to or stared at in hope) were:

a festive fic for @cloud--atlas that ended up being published in 2024 instead

a space AU that will be the longest thing I have ever written if I actually get around to finishing the thing (currently at 24k)

a PWP currently at 10k that is maybe nearly done?

a sequel to The Kindly Ones, currently at 6,800 and fighting me ever step of the way

Let's see what I can get inspired to finish this year...
