HAPPY BIRTHDAY RYUICHI, MY LOVE!!! : O !!! <3 !!!

Two days before Ryuichi's 54th birthday I went full force into my LUNA SEA love again.

I first started it as a way to show a friend how I sometimes get into drawing practice by making a drawing in the span of a song.

I ended up drawing, in that spirit, the whole "NEVER SOLD OUT" live double album from the may (29th) 1999, the whole 24 songs.

And I turned it into a FREE ZINE! You can find it on my itch.io page! Not linking it here because it will shadow ban the post but you can find all the links on my profile!

As usual my art wishes no harm, discomfort or disrespect to anyone!

The light shipping, sensual or violent elements are all symbolic. It's really light and general audience (no nudity, no gore,...) but just in case. It is also quite queer, but, come on! It's Visual Kei!!

It's difficult to navigate spirituality through lived experience while keeping an eye on my own mental illness.

I've been doing that by being frank with myself about whether I am becoming a person who can treat others better and bring something better to this world. I am, so I'll keep following where this journey takes me. Though it doesn't feel as if I have a choice.

Where's the line between feeling/knowing, on a profound and incommunicably meaningful level, things that align with the teachings of numerous world religions... and psychosis, when the symptoms are the same?

What does this say about the medicalization and top-down control of the human experience? the commonalities going back to prehistory in the magic/the ethereal/the otherworld/the All that people have always experienced?

What does it say about me that I feel these things as more real than daily industrialized capitalist life? Is this a symptom, something I need to treat, even though if it was contextualized within Christianity it would just be... the faith people are chasing?

I find a constructed separation too as I've tried to learn more about the varieties of magic and witchcraft that people identify with. It feels almost as if the crystals and good vibes people are frightened of the witches who have historically bridged the divide between here and the unknown. There's almost this air of "I just like candles and cleansing bad energy, I'm not like those scary people who chant around fires and dance naked in the woods"

But trance state is as key to human existence as art is and crops up places we probably don't want it, without ritualized outlets. Tapping into it purposefully is a journey I've had to become comfortable with alone before I find people I can engage in these parallel worlds with. Getting there.
