Pretty?
Eleventh Doctor x Fem!Reader (Mentioned Only)
Synopsis: When the Cyber-Doctor looks into the Doctor's mind he finds out about a woman. The most important woman in the whole Universe. Just who is she and why won't he talk about it?
(Taken from the epsisode 'Nightmare in Silver')
Word Count: 1,248
A/N: Could be read as most Doctor's if comments about the bow tie are ignored. I'm just obsessed with Eleven at the moment so if anyone has any requests? Happy to help!
Clara bounced into the throne room of the castle, quickly checking on the kids, who were still unresponsive and to see the still tied up Doctor who was sitting playing chess with the robot that is inside his head.
He clicked the fingers on his left hand when he saw her, “Hey! Clara, there you are. Now, quick rundown. What's our weapons strength?”
Without second guessing Clara rhymed off as she walked in front of the chess board and faced the giddy alien, “One big gun, five of those hand-pulser units and a shiny black bomb that implodes the planet.”
He nodded eagerly, waving the same hand in the air, “Yeah. Yeah, that one. Now, tell me, does it happen to, possibly, have a remote triggery thing?”
Clara nodded and brought the trigger from out of her pocket, "Like this?"
“Ah. Brilliant. Pass it here.” he held out his hand expectantly.
Clara went to press it into his palm before snatching her hand away again, “No.”
“Why not?”
Clara shrugged, “In case you're not you right now. Or even if you are, just in case.”
The Doctor leans back in the chair and points to the metal at his temple, whispering, “Oh, don’t worry. The Cyberplanner’s hibernating between moves right now.” He pressed a finger to his lips, “Shush.”
Clara squinted her eyes at him before placing her hands on the table and leaned into the Doctor’s face, “Prove you’re you. Tell me something only the Doctor knows.”
He thought for a moment before a glint appeared in his eye, he leant across the chessboard, looking Clara in the eye as he speaks softly, “Clara, I suppose I'm the only one who knows how I feel about you right now.”
Clara’s mouth falls open at his words. What?
“How funny you are. So funny. And pretty. And the truth is, I'm starting to like you in a way that is more than just-”
With a raised hand, Clara, for all she’s worth, slaps the Doctor right across his silly face.
The Doctor’s head snapped to the side before he jerekd in the chair, touching his cheek with his left hand, “Ow! Oww! Owwwww!” Recovering from the slap he clicked his fingers, “Yes!” He grins before pointing to his face, “It's me.” He rubs his cheek, “That really hurt. How did you know that wasn’t me?”
Clara moved her head from side to side, “Um... well. Even if that was true, which it obviously isn't, I know that you would rather die than say it.”
The Doctor's lip raised in a sneer, “Hmm, yes. He is a little emotionally stunted, isn’t he?”
Clara stood up straight, “What?”
The Doctor... the cyber-Doctor was smirking, “I’ve had a little dig around in his brain and in his hearts and ohhh, Doctor. Ooh la la.”
He jerked in his seat, “Stop it.”
Another jerk, “Oh but she’s just so pretty.”
Clara stumbled back as the Doctor started jerking violently in his... their... seat.
“Who? Who is?” she asked.
“Stop it now!” The Doctor yelled.
“Oh. But why stop now? You seem so rattled! Maybe I should dive back in and see more of her.” The cyber-Doctor yelled back.
Entering the Doctor's memories he saw flashes of her. Old adventures. Weeping Angels, the Pandorica, dancing around the Tardis. Holding hands as they run across planets and spaceships
"Oh, poor Clara." He spat, "His hearts belong to someone else."
Clara backed away from them as the shouting began to get louder and louder.
The real Doctor slammed his fist on the table in a rage, “Leave her out of this!”
Was the last thing she heard before she thought it best to remove herself from the situation. The mystery woman could wait until after they fight the killer tin men.
-
After narrowly escaping the Cybermen with their lives, Clara and the other survivors run through the castle corridors to the throne room.
Entering the room they saw him smiling as he fixed his bow tie. All of the circuitry at the side of his face was gone.
He smiled and waved at them with both hands, “Ahhh! Hello. Can someone untie me, please?”
Clara ran straight over to him before stopping at the other side of the table, holding up a finger to silently tell him to wait. Squinting at him before asking, “Do you think I’m pretty?”
"No." He answered quickly. She wasn't her, not the hair, eyes, nose, ears, height. Nothing matched. Nothing would ever, ever compare to her and he knew that. He'll know that for the rest of his lives and doesn't that strike him with a fear he never knew he had.
She watched as a range of emotions crossed his face, happiness, love and sadness all flashed before her eyes before he cloaked it with his usual childlike giddiness, "Definetely not. You're too short and bossy, and your nose is all funny.”
“Good enough.” She smiled before untying him.
-
The Doctor and Clara were alone in the Tardis. Clara was waiting for him to say something and the Doctor was staring at anything other than Clara.
Biting the bullet she opened her mouth first, “Doctor?”
The Doctor stopped fiddling with the switches and levers, “Are you still here?”
Clara sighed and walked around the console, “Doctor.”
He started wringing his fingers together as he looked across at her.
“Back at the castle. That cyber thing.” she gestured to the side of his face.
He clicked his fingers, "Yes! Right. No. Nothing to worry about. All back to normal now. Well..."
"No, Doctor. Not that." She ran her finger along the console, “He, the cyber thingy, talked about a woman. Who was she?”
The Doctor sighed, a lump forming in his throat as tears stung his eyes, “An old, old, friend of mine.”
“What like... like an ex?”
Blinking hard he pressed a few buttons on the Tardis, “Yes.”
Clara’s eyes widened.
“Only, if an ex never becomes an ex.”
“Wait. What?”
Inhaling deep he turns to Clara with a sad smile, slowly waving his hands as he explained, “She isn’t an ex, Clara. She’s the woman I love.”
Clara’s breath left her lungs. The Doctor loves someone? Like, really, really loves someone. Looking at his face she saw nothing but heartbreak, she walked over and placed her hand on his arm, “What happened to her?”
“The same thing that happens to everyone. I lost her.”
“How did you-”
The Doctor smiled and gently placed a finger on her lips, “Not a story for today.”
“But-”
The Doctor clicked his fingers to open the door and span away from her pulling leavers and pressing buttons, “Too much to do! So much to see.”
Clara sighed as the childlike Doctor was back and the wall was put back up.
The Doctor clicked his heels and gave her a salute, “Until next Wednesday.”
Knowing that she wasn't going to get anywhere else she nodded, “Yeah. Sure. See you then, Doctor." Giving him a reassuring smile before walking out of the Tardis.
The Doctor circled the console slowly as he drifted through time and space. He pressed a few buttons and grabbed the monitor.
A small smile spread over his face as a video from his memory played over and over again.
The Tardis hummed and he looked up at her. Raising his hand, he touched the glass in a comforting gesture.
“I know, old girl. I miss her too.”
