 37 Weeks Pregnant + Antenatal Check-up

On Monday I went for my 36 week check-up with my obstetrician. Of course Sean came with me and we took the twins with us. The 4 older kids were all over at their friends houses on play-dates, so luckily we didn’t have a whole room full of kids! Anyway, back to the appointment, I had to switch obstetricians because my previous obstetrician decided to take a sabbatical, so now I have a lovely lady OB/GYN. Monday was the second time I’d seen her and she just puts me so at ease.

First up she took measurements of my uterus and we couldn’t help but laugh as she struggled with getting the tape all the way across my belly. Honestly, at this point I am bigger than I was with the twins. She wasn’t surprised I was measuring a couple of centimetres over the expected for this stage of pregnancy, but she assured me it was fine, especially as this my fifth pregnancy to reach the third trimester and my seventh pregnancy overall. She then checked the position of baby. She confirmed that they are head down in my pelvis, so ready to come down the birth canal when I go into labour. At my last appointment there was a bit of concern as the baby hadn’t turned much, so there was discussion of having to turn the baby in the womb, which is known as  external cephalic version. I had to have this done with Milena as she was breech when I went into labour and it was extremely painful, almost as painful as the birth. So I was relieved when she was able to confirm the baby was now head down. She also said she reckons the baby will be about 9lbs at birth, Harley 10lbs 13oz so I’ve given birth to big babies before.

She then checked my blood pressure, amazingly it was completely normal and she also took a urine sample to test for protein. Then we talked about post-birth. She asked me if I would be breastfeeding and if I felt comfortable with it, which of course I do as I have breastfeed all of my babies, with the exception of Evelyn as she was already being bottle fed when we took her in the adopted her. She also talked me through the vitamin-K injection that babies receive shortly after birth and the newborn screening tests. She gave information on the ‘baby blues’ and post-natal depression, plus information on postnatal health for the mother.

Finally, she performed at ultrasound. I’m not sure if its mandatory at this stage but she decided to do one. I love that tingly sensation when they squirt the gel on your belly, it always makes me giggle! It wasn’t a long ultrasound but we got to hear the baby’s heartbeat again and it was so strong. The twins were pretty fascinated by everything too. Alessia even got the bed so she could have a closer look. My OBGYN thought the twins were adorable! She said they were going to be great big sisters.

Pregnancy Update!

How far along - 37 + 1

Baby fruit size - Honeydew Melon

Total weight gain - About 35 pounds.

Bump - Enormous, absolutely enormous! I look like I’m having triplets! I mean several people have asked me if its twins!

Sleep - Sleep, what is that? Between baby kicking, the back pain and the twins getting out of their new beds, sleep is difficult.

Maternity clothes - Yes!

Food cravings and aversions - No craving or aversions anymore.

Symptoms - Some heartburn of course. I’ve been having Braxton-Hicks quite a lot too. And of course my back is pretty sore and my pelvis aches a bit. But to be honest with size of my belly, and the baby being on the big side, it is expected. Oh and my ankles are a little swollen.

Stretchmarks - A lot!

Doctor’s appointment - See above.

Next appointment - My next appointment is at 38 weeks, on Friday 10th.

Movement - Not quite so much, but when baby moves head down they tend not to make such big moves and also as they’re getting quite big there’s less space to move about.

Belly Button - Out!

Gender - It’s a surprise!

Due Date - 19th January 2019

Best moment of this week - Getting the twins big girl beds.

What I’m looking forward to -  Harley first day of nursery.

We’re getting so close now baby! Given that none of my previous pregnancies have gone past 38 weeks we could have our new little one very soon!

Hana’s generally very flamboyant and talkative but when she’s around her mother she gets completely quiet. Her mother’s been very actively involved in her life growing up and won’t ever say anything that her mum could disagree on. 

She’s really annoying when she’s around her crush but when she’s with her best friend she’ll be super loud and feel herself to the max. 

With her dad, she’s super lovey-dovey and touchy. Always hugging him and playing with his hair.

I was tagged for @shysimblr’s the Magazine Tag by @streetlightaurora ...thank you so much! RULES. I revamped an old post featuring Bridgeport’s most fashion-forward, (semi-retired) celebrity-supermodel-slash-acrobat Tasty Terry for this tag. Longtime followers of this blog may recall that the above pictorial was shot in the Maldives by Mario Testino for Vogue Brides’ December 2012 edition. Mario fondly recalled the shoot in a recent interview with Vogue Italia: “Terry was at the height of his powers. He was very professional but very demanding. Posed on a snow white stallion against a backdrop of icy-blue surf, he was something ethereal, a singularly exquisite study in colour and texture, a Pre-Raphaelite nymph if you will in diaphanous silk-tulle and antique lace.”
