Hi! I recently blasted through all your stuff on ao3 and am thoroughly obsessed with your writing and I just saw that you’re writing a Jim prequel fic???? Yes PLEASE!!! Can I ask—is that mckirk too or just a solo Jim piece? Either way I am absolutely stoked, I’m just wondering <3 thank you!
Can I ask—is that mckirk too or just a solo Jim piece?
Yes.
So here's the thing: I'd never written a multi-fic series before pverse. I didn't mean to this time, either! I wrote palimpsest, and for reasons I'm sure you now understand I simultaneously started writing anagnorisis as a companion piece, and I thought at the time that those two would be it. But then I had readers asking me a bunch of questions, and my answers had a funny way of transmogrifying from long-winded Tumblr responses into full-blown fics, and then I’d get MORE questions, and all of a sudden I had a verse on my hands.
Anyway, it was while writing anagnorisis that I realized I needed a prequel to fully unpack how Jim and Leonard's relationship transformed over time. And then, in trying to tackle THAT story, I realized I needed a prequel to the prequel to fully unpack Jim's journey pre-Academy in order to understand his starting point when he and Leonard meet, since his evolving character arc is such a key driver of the gradual change in their dynamic.
So when I talk about “Jim’s prequel,” I’m often conflating two separate Jim POV WIPs: a solo piece that follows Jim from elementary school until the day he joins Starfleet, and then the follow-up to that, which is very much a McKirk-centered story that takes us from the Academy up to the events of palimpsest and beyond.
You, uh...you want a look-see at ‘em?

My discord buddies have started calling my Wildbow based alternative swear words 'Cryptid language' (I go by Cyber Cryptid there). They're even picking it up despite not reading the books themselves or in one case knowing about Wildbow books at all.
Always gotta laugh on the inside when I hear em go 'motherbudding gobhole' 'son of a lindt' or 'what a load of shard'.

The eyes emoji reminds me of Myth so I'm gonna ramble about Iridian
So Iridian's a fairy from Karamelle, however almost nobody knows this yet for a few reasons.
1) Iridian doesn't have wings yet.
2) Iridian's young enough that her shortness can pass as human.
3) Ive got this headcanon that Wizard City kids are naturally a bit gifted in basic magic because Wizard City itself is super magical and so they've always been surrounded by magic. It's in the air they breathe. So Iridian's talents in magic despite not being old enough to attend Ravenwood isn't completely out of the ordinary.
4) Dirk (their genetic sibling) put a glamour on Iridian to try and protect her in Wizard City.
Now what's glamour, you may ask?
I stole it from one of Wildbow's web serial thingies. Pact and Pale I think they're called. A friend of mine online is a huge fan of Wildbow's work and I wanna try to incorporate Wildbow stuff into my characters so that it's easier to RP with said friend.
Anyway, Glamour is fae's most notorious magic. It creates a disguise so powerful it can convince the entire universe. Basically the placebo effect but magical. However it isn't completely infallible. Glamour can be seen through if you're intentionally looking for it, and it can break from too much physical force or pure silver can burn it.
Anyway, Dirk specifically put a glamour on Iridian to help her pass as a human. After all, humans are more common in Wizard City than fairies, and they wanted to help Iridian hide from Karamelle. Dirk sometimes uses glamour on themselves while pirating for the same reasons.

Hey Zed! Have you seen Ghost in the Shell (2015 and/or 1995) What is your opinion of Motoko? How would a Cyborg like her fit in the PVerse?
Motoko’s got a cool design but I know nothing about GitS tbh

Just saying hi! I discovered your McKirk fics and I'm newly (re-)OBSESSED with that pairing. Your writing made me fall in love with them all over again. Thanks for sharing it with everyone! I had a rough week and dipping into the palimpsest verse was the distraction I needed.
Aww, thank you so much! I’m really glad to know that pverse was able to bring you some needed distraction and entertainment, and of course to notch a victory in my ongoing campaign to lure unsuspecting souls into (or back into) the McKirk pit. Enjoy your stay! 💙💛💙💛💙💛
Also, I’m sorry that you had a rough week. May I offer you an otter livecam in this trying time? Good for the soul.

THis is a bit of a wierd question but does anyones eyes glow with your ocs/
The truthful answer: Pretty much every single one lol
In essence, powers are an expression of inner energy, and so most powered humans when they use their powers have glowing eyes or a glowing aura of some sort.
Some characters always have glowing eyes- most notably:
Phoenix, Hellcat, Crimson, Dominatio, Trix, Cerebella, Vale, Pyre, Hive, and Zed for the UHVerse.
Bastion, Char, Dragon, Royalty, Oculus, Snow, Tarnish, and Luck for the SHVerse.
Obviously no one for the GAVerse since none of them are powered humans.
Only Sunflare for the PVerse.
Most of the powered humans that always have glowing eyes are either extremely powerful, energy manipulators, fire manipulators, or have eye-based powers.

having binged all of the Palimpsest series and scrolled through your blog for a while, I have happily adopted the worldview that Jim and Bones clocked each other as 'the one person balls to the walls nuts enough to keep up with me' and mutually decided 'This Is My Project,' so thank you for that
Congratulations on your new and exceptionally valid worldview! It's a perennially entertaining paradigm to operate in, if you ask me.
You know, at least in pverse, I feel like it took them both a minute to get to the This Is My Project stage, mostly because they were each too fucked up upon meeting to consider themselves capable of making a positive impact on anyone else. Arguably their starting point is something more along the lines of Wow, What A Mess. ...Well, I Guess I Probably Can't Fuck Him Up Any Worse. You know? Like, if someone hands me their pristine brand-new top-of-the-line phone without a case, I’m going to be on edge the entire time I’m holding it. But if it’s already got a cracked screen, a scratched-up case, maybe a mysterious bite mark or two - I mean, I’ve got questions, first of all, but that’s none of my business and the important thing is that short of throwing that bad boy into the sun my own careless handling ain’t gonna make a dent, so I can relax a little.
Jim is that phone when he walks onto that shuttle - just an Absolute Wreck of a human being. It is pure glorious serendipity that he ends up sitting next to a guy who is a completely different but equally intense flavor of Absolute Wreck, and even more incredible that those flavors happen to pair so naturally together. (Hey, you got your chocolate in my peanut butter abandonment issues in my caretaking fixation! Yeah, well, you got your anxiety and depression in my performative overconfidence and obsessive drive!)
They don’t know that last part right away, of course. But game recognizes game, and so each of them in their own way kind of shrugs into that initial stage of their relationship - like, yeah, what the hell, I guess there’s room for one more vagrant around the roaring trash barrel fire that is my existence. Set down your bindle of barely repressed trauma and make yourself comfortable.
Both Leonard and Jim are too blindered by self-hatred, at first, to have any aspirations of helping each other, let alone consider that they themselves might be helpable. It's only once they’ve started settling into their fixer-upper of a friendship - the cartoonishly ramshackle haunted house that is their combined dysfunction - that they start looking around and going, hmm...I mean, since I'm already here...
