The Ragwitch (Garth Nix) "Ten-year-old Paul and his sister Julia are on vacation at the beach one day when they find a shell midden on the shore. When they climb it, they find a crow's nest with a creepy little ragdoll in it. Paul distrusts it immediately, but Julia is entranced, and brings it home, where their parents don't seem to be able to see it. The next morning, Paul hears someone moving around, and follows the sound out to find his sister, possessed by the doll, building a strange blue fire on top of the midden. She freezes him helplessly in place, then jumps into the fire and disappears. Paul rebuilds it and follows Her through, determined to rescue his sister.
So begins a quest to stop the Ragwitch and save his sister (and maybe the world he finds himself in on the side). Throughout, the narrative switches between Paul's journey and Julia Fighting from the Inside despite the Ragwitch's attempts to control her mind."
Coraline (Neil Gaiman) "The presence of another world that resemble the one you know but different, the Other Mother whole deal and the fact that she spies on people using dolls and sews buttons in place of her victim's eyes."

Gingerbread Hot Chocolate - Bucky/Darcy
Tumblr media
For: @ragwitch Pairing:  Bucky Barnes/Darcy Lewis Prompt: Gingerbread Hot Chocolate Rating: T
"They're going to love you, don't worry!"  Darcy gushed, linking her arm through Bucky's and pulling him up the snowy walk towards her parents' home. "Anyone who makes me slow down is aces in their book, I promise!"
"You seem so sure about that, doll… but I think you're forgetting that I'm over a hundred years old and up until recently, public enemy number one." Bucky reached up to straighten the tie he'd insisted on wearing. A tie and a sweater vest and a brand new haircut.  Basically, he'd told the stylist to do anything to make him not look like a hundred-year-old assassin.
Darcy shot him a look, one that warmed his heart almost to the melting point. "I think we'll be fine. It's obvious I adore you. And I'm super picky, so I think they'll overlook most of your sharp edges. Besides, they're my parents. I should know what to expect more than you, James." She punctuated by poking him square in the chest. A poke which turned into a full-palm caress of his pecs.
He caught her hand before it could go any further. "No matter who I am, I'm pretty sure your parents don't want us groping each other on their porch…" he said with a smirk, lacing their fingers and pulling her hand down between them as they continued to walk.
"We haven't rung the doorbell yet…" she reminded him. A little heat in her voice that made him go against his better judgment and slip his hand behind her head, pulling her close for an open-mouthed kiss that was extremely promising until her mother opened the door.
"I thought I heard someone out here-- oh!" Mrs. Lewis stopped in the middle of her thought and chuckled a little before pushing the door closed. "Don't mind me, just ring the bell when you're finished…"
Bucky's face blazed red with embarrassment as Darcy didn't even try to choke back a laugh.

Last to Leave the Room (Caitlin Starling) "The city of San Siroco is sinking. The basement of Dr. Tamsin Rivers, the arrogant, selfish head of the research team assigned to find the source of the subsidence, is sinking faster. As Tamsin grows obsessed with the distorting dimensions of the room at the bottom of the stairs, she finds a door that didn’t exist before - and one night, it opens to reveal an exact physical copy of her. This doppelgänger is sweet and biddable where Tamsin is calculating and cruel. It appears fully, terribly human, passing every test Tamsin can devise. But the longer the double exists, the more Tamsin begins to forget pieces of her life, to lose track of time, to grow terrified of the outside world. As her employer grows increasingly suspicious, Tamsin must try to hold herself together long enough to figure out what her double wants from her, and just where the mysterious door leads…"

4. What is your zodiac sign?
I’m an Aquarius! :D
40. Have you ever had a secret admirer?
Nope. (Or maybe I have and they’ve just been very, very good at that ‘secret’ part of secret admirer.)
63. Biggest fear?
Mediocrity.
100. Color of your room?
Currently it’s 90s sea-foam green from the previous people who lived here. I’ve thought about repainting but the thought of moving the furniture around and putting down canvas over the carpet makes me tired already lol.

So, I’m going to go ahead and blame @ragwitch and her absolutely wonderful story Command the Moon It Will Come Down for why I was a half hour late for work this morning, mmmkay?  I mean, I told everyone it was because an accident backed up traffic on the BQE this morning, but really, we all know the truth.
*rolls around in all the story feels*
And I’m also blaming you for me now wanting to dive back into that Darcy/Johnny ABOverse wip I started ages back and let lay fallow since...

‘Down’ - Bucky/Darcy/Steve
Ship:  Bucky Barnes/Darcy Lewis/Steve Rogers For:  @ragwitch Song:  'Down' by Harry Nilsson (1971) Word Count: 708
Tumblr media
She was the prettiest girl Bucky had ever seen. He was pretty sure Steve felt the same way, given how his eyes had nearly leapt from their sockets for the sheer pleasure of following her as she walked across the room.
He'd seen her before. She worked closely with Ms. Potts. With Tony. In the vicinity of himself and Steve, but their paths had never crossed. Not before today.
And certainly not under these circumstances.
No, Darcy Lewis hadn't ever materialized in his life outside of the Avengers complex. Not in a hoity-toity bar in Williamsburg that he and Steve only frequented because it was near their place. Definitely not in a floor-length black dress with heels and a slit cut to exactly there.
She was overdressed for this particular bar, but the look on her face told him she didn't give a shit, and Bucky knew better than to bring anything like that up. Just wasn't polite.
"We should tell her we're here," he mumbled towards Steve. Or he would have, if Steve hadn't floated out of his damn chair and across the floor towards the bar.
Bucky sighed and rose from the booth they'd staked out in the corner, he dropped the tip on the table and followed Steve. Still not a lick of sense in that punk's thick head.
Steve approached her from the wrong side and kind of hovered in her periphery like a big dumb moth fluttering around a porch light.
He rolled his eyes because it was sad how rusty they both were when it came to talking up dames.
"Speak now or speak later, creep," Darcy levelled over her shoulder in Steve's general direction. "If you choose later, it'll be a few octaves higher. I have four-inch heels and I'm not afraid to use them."
Bucky huffed out a laugh, amused at the way Steve's face immediately reddened. "Darcy, it's me. Steve?"
"Oh... Steve?" She whirled in her stool and looked him up and down. "If you're here, where's--" She cast that icy blue gaze around until it locked on Bucky.  The corner of her mouth quirked up.  "There you are."
Bucky felt something warm spread out through his limbs and he shifted his weight, jamming one hand in his pockets. "You looked alone."
"There's that sniper's eye for ya," Darcy teased, drumming her fingertips on the bar surface. "Can't get anything past you, can I?"
He didn't know what to say, so he just grinned and shrugged, glancing down at his feet.
"Sorry about the 'creep' thing," she said, directed mostly to Steve. "Just got done having half a date with a dude who made my creepometer go haywire, so I was just trying to cover my bases."
"Half a date?" Steve asked, raising his eyebrows in that cute quizzical way he had. It was the same look that made women want to help give him directions. Lost puppy. Hell, it worked on Bucky half the time, so he wasn't about to begrudge him for continuing to use it.
"Meaning it started, he creeped me out, so I left before the food came…" Darcy said with a half smile. "I came here so I could be sure he wouldn't follow me home and like… kill me or whatever…"
Bucky frowned, glancing around the bar. "What's he look like?"
"Don't worry about it, he's not here. He's probably not a killer, but you never know these days, ya know?"
"Yeah," Bucky admitted, still glancing around cautiously. "Darce, you need us to escort you home?"
"If you want," she said, swinging one of her legs. "Or you could… you know… finish the half of a date. Also if you want." She raised her eyebrows a little, giving them an out if they wanted it.
"But if it's just half a date, and there are two of us, wouldn't that make it a quarter of a date each?" Steve quipped, surprising even Bucky with his candor.
Darcy laughed. "I suppose it would. So what do you say, fellas? Help a girl out? Quarter of a date?"
Chuckling, Bucky moved a little closer. "I'm game if Steve is."
"Awesome." Darcy reached for her purse. "I was promised dancing, so let's shake a leg, guys."

Smells Like Home
for @ragwitch
Chapter Two -  Cheese Rolling and Sheepdog Trials
It was well after dawn when they went down to breakfast the next morning and they were mildly surprised to find the tavern full to overflowing.
“What in hells is going on,” Bucky wondered softly to Steve.
The barmaid was so busy serving tea and coffee to the early morning crowds that Bucky had been sitting in front her for more than a full minute before she noticed him. Between the width of the bar between them and the crowds buffeting him on all sides, he was hard pressed to smell anything other than fresh hot bread, bacon, sausage, people, and coffee, although he did catch a whiff of vampire when the redheaded barmaid passed behind him with a tray piled high with pastries. He watched her curiously for a moment, wondering how she’d ended up here before turning his attention back to his target who’d finally stopped in front of him.
“Morning, lass. Is it always this busy here?” he asked her, turning on the charm and flashing her a winning smile. It hadn’t failed him yet.
“Not usually,” she told him, throwing him the briefest of glances as she refilled the tea urn, “but the Harvest Festival finishes today with the finals of the sheepdog trials, along with the cheese rolling, and there'll be dancing tonight as well.”
“Cheese rolling?”
A small smirk flickered across her face at the tone of confusion in his voice. “It has to be seen to be truly appreciated,” she said, pouring two cups of tea and pushing them towards him. She looked up at him at last. He hadn't noticed how blue her eyes were in the gloom last night and suddenly she was the best thing he'd seen all day. Hell, all month if he was going to get picky. The journey over the mountains had been a long one.
