Post 7 Comfort Movies and Tag 7 people
I was tagged by @silver-dream89, thank you bby! This is def a spur of the moment list and a few of these would change if I made the list tomorrow, but it works!
The Matrix Resurrections — I MEAN. The fucking best, most non-problematic ship, an absolutely stellar love story, everyone wears black leather and is ludicrously hot, and Keanu Reeves sits in the tub with a rubber duckie on his head. I just cannot.
The Princess Bride — Imho, one of the most perfect movies ever made. Funny, touching, smart, ethereal. Nothing about it ever gets old to me, and the script is so goddamn fantastic; I must quote this damn movie at least once a day. “You’re only saying that because no one ever has!”
The X-Files: Fight the Future — Forever mad about the bee, but otherwise this movie has everything I love about Mulder and Scully — separation angst, mortal peril, witty banter, that sexual tension that makes me want to climb the walls, and one of my favorite jump cuts that has ever existed in cinema.
Sneakers — Yes Redford is my dad’s age and no I don’t want to think about that. But the ensemble cast is fucking adorable, I will NEVER not laugh at cootys rat semen, and the dancing scene to Chain of Fools improves the quality of my life every time I watch it.
Dirty Dancing — The soundtrack is fire, the setting is gorgeous, and the nostalgia for movies that I loved when I was 15 never leaves me. RIP Patrick Swayze; this movie gets me even more now that he’s gone. Plus, “I carried a watermelon.”
Die Hard — First, it’s a fucking Christmas movie and I will die on this hill. But also it’s just fucking ludicrous and I love everything about how absolutely silly it is, like when German-speaking Hans switches to English to tell ANOTHER GERMAN-SPEAKING DUDE to shoot at the glass. Insanity. But augh, Alan Rickman. “Nice suit.”
Notorious — Like what’s not to love about Ingrid Bergman and Cary Grant smoking, getting drunk, looking illegally hot, and fighting Nazis? And “I was a fat-headed guy, full of pain” or “Say it again, it keeps me awake.” I’m flailing just thinking about it. Might have to put it on tonight:)
I’m tagging @catelyngrant @philipspiderman @the-night-time-rain @ktlsyrtis @lookforastar @danainthedogpark @dealanexmachina but natch only if you want to play!

one thing that's always been so confusing to me for years now is the way people like overexaggerate how deku was treated in middle school and their whole middle school experience in general it's so ... 😭 like in order for them to push their own perception of bakugou (unapologetic villainous sadistic cruel bully who shows no sign of remorse and will never own up for or change his behaviour AKA people incapable of deducing what a character arc looks like and a pretty simple one at that) and sort of like i guess be like SEE... deku is a VICTIMMMM!!! and must be Saved and Nurtured or something. i would say it's woobifying him if he weren't the like protagonist lol.
like this isn't even about he and bakugou's relationship as is bc that's a whole other thing i just mean like. the other kids at their school poked fun at bakugou and didn't take him that seriously EITHER, no one was trembling in fear or letting him do whatever ... he wasn't Top Dog just because he was generally "popular" and to be honest from my perception i don't even think he was popular considering the way people reacted to him i think they all knew he was well. bakugou. they all also called him by his first name and willingly yelled at him and junk which is indicative of a more casual relationship lol not whatever it is ... fanon says. the two friends that were there even made a point to be like "well that was harsh weren't you childhood friends" when he told deku to jump off a roof.
i dunno it's just funny at this point when people act like it was this horrific particularly cruel school full of people who would beat deku every day and make him eat dirt when the whole point is it was kind of an incredibly average school where they all have known each other their whole lives and the casual cruelty of kids words and actions still having an affect on someone and their general self esteem and perception. "kids make fun of me [for being quirkless & wanting to be a hero]" like you don't need to exagerate or just plain make up harsher bullying scenarios just to get people to take deku as a protagonist seriously or something let alone if you're just doing it because you hate bakugou which is just like what the hell ever man. the notion that in order for him to overcome something bakugou needs to have ruined his life from when they were babies (categorically untrue and you don't understand anything going on w their friendship and the way it affects the narrative at ALL!) AND his mom neglects him or something (insane and you're all actually evil) and all might told him to kill himself as well (would have been funny as fuck to be honest but obviously not what happened) is so dumb and offensive to the actual story being told. and i mean above all else at the end of the day this is a shounen and they're a bunch of kids who are meant to be kids And kids act ... childishly. crazy. everyone needs to stop taking it so seriouslyyyyyy can we just be silly please...

I’m bored so let’s this brain on the road
I don’t know why but I can see Fred Jones yes from scooby doo not Velma please don’t insult me like that is white kid who has rich parents but is like neglected
And he’s basically raised by Latinos like straight up cause his parents are so rich that they have maids and gardeners and shit like that but most of are Latinos and so they’re like raising him and they teach him how to build houses and shit so much so that he’s obsessed with it and that’s how he gets into traps and all that jazz

so what im getting is that it was absolutely unnecessary to isolate raffi on gotham city in order for her story to go on.
a story that’s so halfhearted that five episodes in—halfway to the end. btw—her motivation is yet to be explained (why go back to this sector of intelligence work when teaching seemed to be fulfilling? was she made to do this?? did she volunteer because her son now lives on this planet now apparently?? was losing elnor cris and possibly seven so painful that burying herself in work seemed like a better option??? who knows! not me!!) and it’s definitely a retreat character-wise but the fact that they still haven’t laid the groundwork to make this stick is kind of amazing lol. it’s the way they’re not even pretending to give a fuck about her or any of the other women characters for me—they said you’re a womb or a subordinate ladies pick one and shut the hell up LMAO?
the fact that the ‘real plot’ is happening on that other ship while everything raffi does is basically an afterthought with backstory slipped in between the cracks like aged caulk is so disheartening and pathetic. star trek picard make an effort maybe. she’s a polarizing character that’s been stuck in impossible situations, weighed down with retractions and stereotypes (they thread the line but HM) because the narrative continually refuses to meaningfully engage with her and a lot of fans of the show wont examine their own biases to see why they have such a viscerally negative reaction to a complicated black woman character that’s good at what she does, knows it and refuses to kneel at the foot of their hero’s :)
and if it wasn’t for ms hurd elevating this performance with sheer will, massive talent and the whip of that (sexy) ponytail? shit would be so much worse. but it’s still bad! because instead of giving her a nuanced, thoughtful send off she’s once again being made to suffer for the nth time. because why? oh right so wise man worf can guide her to the light lol give me a fuckin break.
and it’s no accident that if you cut raffi out (which they literally did in ep4 miss musiker you WILL be avenged) the story could more or less proceed as usual. that’s by design.
because legacy characters or not, im simply not buying that the main white cast members (plus two interlopers idgaf about those new guys and they’re doing nothing to make me care either. pick a random channel and their stories are being told right now live and in color like don’t piss me off) just so happen to be on the ship with the lead yet the sole woc is sent away on some underbaked adventure because ‘reasons?’ please. this season literally could not be more transparent about the audience they’re catering to and who/whose stories are of importance and consideration.
and i knew this would probably happen once the premise for s3 was revealed but i still can’t get over how obvious it is that there really was no plan for raffi and that she only happened to bypass the cull of the la sirena crew because she was romantically linked with seven at the time. which is baffling considering how things are (not) going between them (#theyareMARRIEDletthemTALKandKISSandREST)
and it’s not just them like everything about this season is quite literally happening just because. every slightly interesting or fresh development (and character it’s true) from the previous seasons has been dismissed or diminished and for what? secret sons and man pain? ew lmao. no suspense no lingering threads just excessive shots of ships, an aggressive insistence on biological families and rampant, shameless references to past glory. a mess.
