imma just rant about my wof hybrid ocs i have that i have yet to draw but still love with all my heart- it's long so prepare yourself to view my ramblings after the cut

wildfire (she/her), a leaf/sky gal with firescales. she's got a sage green body with a deep green underbelly that slowly fades from red, to orange, to yellow. her eyes are bright blue and she's got wings in between that skywing shape and that leafwing shape. her wings are deep red that fades to a coal black at the edges as if they were charred, and she's got splotches of fire colors all over her body. the formation at the end of her tail that looks a lot like a leaf on normal leafwings looks like fire on her.

desert rose (she/it), a sand/rain girlie. she's got both venom and a stinging tail, but both are weaker than normal. her body scales are a pale, sandy color like most sandwings, and her underbelly is a dull pink. her sail a similar, yet darker than her underbelly. she's got a mix of bright orange and deep pink freckles on her wings, nose, talons, and legs. instead of her stinging tail getting darker at the end, hers gets lighter and pinker, with the actual stinger being orange, her frills are a similar color. her eyes are a deep, dusty shade of green that looks similar to moss. she wears a lot of jewelry, most being silver and obsidian.

dawnkeeper (he/him) and duskbreaker (he/they), night/sky boys that are complete opposites and also twins! dawnkeeper has a mostly skywing look, a slender body yet a small size. his colors are pale and muted, yet he has pinks, oranges, and deep purples with hints of blue. he is also piebald, with cloud-like splotches over parts of his body. his eyes are a deep red and he often keeps to himself. duskbreaker has a larger, stockier build moreso like a nightwing, yet a long neck. his wings are large and deep, dusty purple with faint star-like and constellation-like patterns on them. he a mostly black and purple body, and has hints of blue on him, most are accompanies by oranges and pinks. his eyes are pale blue and shimmer in the sunlight. like dawnkeeper, he is quiet and often alone, yet is better at sneaking away from social situations.

last but not least.....

abyss (it/he/they) and trench (they/them)! these guys are conjoined twin sea/night fuckheads. they have a deep purple body with pale navy back scales. they have bright cyan, nearly white, bioluminescent scales but fewer than a pure seawing. they also have bioluminescent teardrop scales next to their eyes, but do not show evidence of being able to read minds or see into the future. the only reliable way to differentiate them is their eyes. their scleras are black, but abyss has bright lavender eyes and trench has baby blue eyes. their tail is shorter and less maneuverable than a seawing's, like a nightwing's is, which makes swimming a bit harder but not too bad as they still have webbed talons.

thinking about flame again (as per usual).. genuinely i dont and never will understand wof fans who saw him be bitter and angry and cold and shut off from years of never having a home or real friends and feeling isolated and say "yeah, no, he's evil."

he lived his whole life in the talons, constantly moving and never having any place to tether himself to emotionally. imagine the impact that must have on a literal child. i know i like to headcanon that he and viper and ochre were friends but nothing in the books actually indicates that he found any emotional consolation in ANYONE with the exception being his mother, who probably never even really got to spend much time with him. i dont really remember what exactly the talons did though so idrk. he probably had to witness the horrors of war via the aftermath of battles that he likely saw when traveling, and even though he was shielded from being drafted into the skywing army that still doesnt lessen the emotional impact that that'd have on a fucking kid.

imagine you go through years of that, and finally, one day, some big, majestic, 'allknowing' nightwing shows up and tells you that you're a part of the fabled dragonet prophecy, and you finally have some hope that maybe it was worth the struggle, that you are actually worth something, just to find out that you were nothing but a replacement. and don't even get me started on when he and the other alternates were transferred to the nightwing volcano, where they went without food for DAYS and were forced to fly nonstop to some remote island and for probably the first time in his life, flame met other skywings- just to watch them burn alive in front of him. all while he is STILL A KID.

then the literal NEXT DAY he is forced to fight the other alternates, and winds up with an unimaginably (both physically and emotionally) painful scar that makes him feel like an unlovable, weak, ugly monster. all while he watches a dragon who's essentially his sister die right before his eyes in the lava.

this all makes him wall himself off from other dragons, because he's scared that they'll think he's as weak as he sees himself; it makes him angry and bitter at the world, it makes him hate himself and it eats him up inside. we get a really good insight on this in book 6 when moon reads his mind, where he thinks that he doesn't even deserve his mother's love because of how scarred he his, where he thinks that nobody takes him seriously, where he thinks that he has no friends nor allies.

and then people still have the sense to call him evil because of, not despite, the emotional barriers he has from the turmoil and trauma he's experienced.

Okay quick rant about something i really dislike with Qibli (i can feel the incoming hate)

I really don't like how he constantly pushes Winter's buttons and worms into his boundaries and people treat that as an admirable trait

Like that's really uncool of him and the constant flirting despite Winter shutting it down is uncomfortable to read like can you not take no for an answer??

Like call me a priss or frigid or whatever but if i say "stop saying that kind of thing" just stop, if I'm joking I'll let you know but don't keep up with it and be so insistent

About Prickle...

I feel like so many people forget that Prickle exists and it makes me so sad. Her story is genuinely heartbreaking and I wish Tui did more with her. She warned her sister about running away with the prince's egg, got wrongfully accused of being her sister, most likely got chewed out by Oasis, was thrown in prison and forgotten for almost 20 years during the war, and then--after 20 years--meets the prince that ruined her life and her niece that's there because of her sister.

Prickle started off rather antagonistic and snarky towards Palm's relationship with Smolder (rightfully so given Oasis's rules) and then Palm knowingly gets Pickle thrown in prison. Prickle spent a good portion of her life in prison only to realize that her sister died and she never knew. A whole war started and she most likely didn't know, her queen died and she most likely didn't know. Then on top of it, Prickle spent her whole time in jail begging and pleading to be released. Nobody would listen or go near her. It's implied that she went days or weeks at a time without food before a guard would give her scraps and leave. Prickle literally lost her mind and all sense of time being trapped. Her story is genuinely so upsetting and I want a winglet where Thorn finds a way to get her help and maybe help her try and adjust to a new life.

I want to keep this brief, but justice for Prickle. She literally didn't deserve anything that happened to her and she had to pay the price for her sister's wrongdoing. So fucking unfair and I feel so bad. Genuinely one of the worst backstories of any character imo.

A part of me misses wof and the "good old days" and sometimes I wish I had stuck it out, but everyone has to go through phases and find what makes them truly inspired in order to create art. Wof was what really pushed me to improve, and I'm thankful for all of the fun we had back then!! Rereading TLC and I'm where Blue and Cricket meet. I enjoy reading TLC but this scene always makes me wanna punch a wall.

They've just met and their just flirting back and forth like:

Cricket: aww your adorable!

Blue: what? No, you are :)

If Tui didn't rush their love story so fast, I would've actually loved it. Heck, it could have been the second most popular ship if it was slow and thought put. All it takes to make me actually love this ship is if it was written throughout the arc and not in 1 book.. I felt like Tui was in the middle of track practice writing this.

The only reason why I like it but not love it is because of this small rewrite in my head when they first meet. Instead of them flirting, blue just acknowledges the fact a HiveWing is helping him. He might think have a thought like, 'she's pretty for a hivewing who are usually mean to me for no apparent reason.' I would've loved that.

Overall, their relationship was so rushed, and I hate it for that. But with the help of my wings of fire rewrite, I'm actually able to think the ship isn't that bad after all.

I am the No. 1 Webs hater. There is nobody out there that despises this character like me.
