Hi everyone! It's ya boi spreadsheets back with another fanfiction wrapped! This time I actually took the time to make it look really pretty (see: I half assed this in Google Slides for my discord server's swampmas wrapped event lmao).

Without further ado, here's what I read this year.

‘The self-centred asshole who can only be decent to a single human being, I get it. It works for you.’ Then he takes a thick, heavy breath. The alcohol is hitting him, Eddie can tell. ‘And I am being civil. I’m here, aren’t I? You have any idea how hard it is for me to be here?’

‘In a bar?’

Steve doesn’t answer.

Primarily, raising his daughter. As long as she's happy and healthy, Chad thinks that he can manage to be as well.

But when an old friend from high school stumbles back into his life, Chad's world gets just a little more interesting.

Zuko scowls. “What, so people can then say at least my father wasn’t lazy?”

Sokka tilts his head. “Don’t you think there’s a difference between laziness and, I don’t know, choosing life and happiness in spite of a terrible dad who tried to take both from you?”

Zuko is sixteen years old when he’s handed a crown, a throne, and a hundred-year ancestral legacy of colonial imperialism. He’s not scared of the work; he’s scared of being consumed by the responsibilities and burdens he’s claimed. What Zuko doesn’t quite realize, yet, is that he’s not alone in this.

The Fire Nation offers Prince Zuko’s hand.

The Water Tribes offer Princess Yue’s.

Sokka is apparently the only person in the world who has a problem with any of this.

Will We Last the Night by CSHfic | Rated T | 144k

Chief Arnook never assigns Sokka to protect Princess Yue, so he goes to fight the Fire Nation with the other men. When the moon dies, and the ocean spirit takes its revenge, Sokka is caught standing on the deck of a Fire Nation ship. Sokka should have drowned… and he would have drowned, if not for a certain Fire Nation raft fleeing the North Pole.

[An enemies-to-lovers season 2 rewrite, where Sokka is separated from the gaang during the Siege of the North, and travels the Earth Kingdom with Zuko instead].

War Crimes by Lovely_Elbow_Leech | Rated M | 90k (MAJOR CONTENT WARNING FOR SA, CHILD SA, TORTURE, MURDER, AND VIOLENCE - PLEASE READ THE TAGS AND CONTENT WARNINGS)

Book one ends with two major diffrences: 1. Sokka went on the mission with Hahn (it did not go well) 2. Zhao survives the North Pole and that proves unfortunate for everybody (except Zhao, obviously) 

Imprisoned on Zhao’s war ship, Sokka and Zuko have to work together to survive. They are not very enthusiastic about this prospect. 

And they argue. 

A lot. 

War games by Lovely_Elbow_Leech | Rated M | 428k (MAJOR CONTENT WARNING, TORTURE, VIOLENCE, MURDER - Unfinished)

After the events of War Crimes, Sokka and Zuko have escaped Zhao’s warship and are fleeing across the Earth Kingdom. As well as unfamiliar terrain, they have to navigate their shared trauma, work out where they fit into the war, and their place in each others lives.

Sokka is aware that being friends with the enemy is going to bring complications, but he probably should have guessed that being friends with Zuko in particular, was going to be a bit like dunking your head repeatedly into a bucket of angry Fire Ferrets.

Katara is also grappling with the confusion of befriending an enemy, something that doesn’t prove as difficult as she had expected with the bond of shared, furious grief bridging old wounds. (Learning a new way to look at her bending doesn't hurt either)

Azula, struggling with the Fire Lord’s mistrust, encounters a few nasty surprises and has to make some difficult decisions. Luckily, she is a great deal better at making sensible choices than her brother.

Her father may have made a slight tactical error.

In the Soft Light by CHSfic | Rated T | 84k

As the newly appointed cultural liaison to Northern Water Tribe, Zuko is the first Fire Nation Citizen to step foot inside the city's walls in nearly a century. He's determined to prove himself—to the Fire Lord and to his father—even if the Water Tribe's spirit-touched prince seems to want nothing to do with him.

Sokka raises his eyebrows. “That I…Focus on the present to the point of blindly committing to enormously questionable courses of action with significant long-term ramifications because they’re gratifying in the immediate moment, which is particularly concerning as our chief Maker of Plans?”

“Uh—That’s basically…Yeah.”]

Surrounded by danger and doubts, separated by war and one irrevocable decision—after the world of just-Sokka-and-Zuko crashes into the world of everything else, what comes next?

What happens when trusting someone suddenly means something far different out in the world than it did in the space of a Ba Sing Se teashop?

I'll Share the Moon, if You'll Share the Sun by anarchycox | Rated M | 400k

An alternate world where Iroh leads a coup against Ozai on the eclipse and wins the throne for Zuko. The southern water tribe hadn't sent men to fight in thirty years, instead protecting their home, laying traps, using guerilla tactics so the fire nation gave up fighting them.

Sokka and Katara found Aang, but being frozen in ice for a hundred years has ramifications and for almost four years the tribe focuses on healing the avatar.

Zuko is advised for continued peace to have an arranged marriage outside the fire nation. The best option is a the child of the chief of the southern tribe. Katara is in love with Aang and is heartbroken, but will do her duty for her people. Sokka finds a loophole that they can carefully and craftily exploit.

Aka they lie. They lie so hard and Sokka becomes the one betrothed to Fire Lord Zuko. He is sure there will be no consequences to the plan. Certainly not going to fall in love with the man he is lying to. At all. Nope indeedy, no love on the menu. Dang it.

Everything That I Am Not by Benedick | Rated T | 85k (Unfinished)

Sokka isn’t stupid. Not that his sister is, mind you (at least, he’d never call her that to her face now that she’s honed her waterbending), or any of the rest of Team Avatar, although sometimes it feels like he’s living in a different world from the rest of them — a world where running out of food means starving, and walking into a town full of firebenders with the Avatar in tow will get you killed, rather than help you free a beaten-down Earthbender colony.

Anyways.

Sokka isn’t stupid, which is why he laughs directly in Aunt Wu’s face when she tells him that he will marry the Fire Lord.

A LOOK INTO MINGEUN'S G-SHOCK COLLECTION

1. It all started with Mingeun's first watch, the black GW-5600J. One of the more basic models, it was given to him when he was a kid by his parents, simply because they thought he needed a watch. In the years he's had it, he's done little more than replace the battery and wristband a few times. He also scratched the plastic screen years ago but never fixed it. Mingeun is more shocked than anything else that his childhood watch survived into his adulthood.

2. The white G-8900A was a congratulatory gift when he passed the SM Entertainment audition, once again from his parents. It’s held bad memories for years now, and Mingeun rarely wears it. Also, he used to wear it a lot as an SM trainee and the wristband started turning gray.

3. As a teenager, he was given the G-1400D in black. It was meant as a replacement for his first watch, but Mingeun used the two of them interchangeably. He has not impressed his parents enough in the past ten years to receive any more watches.

4. Mingeun received another watch, the gold-faced GMW-B5000KL, to celebrate his long-awaited debut. This one was given to him by his extended family he lived with while a trainee. He tends to favor it over the older ones from his parents.

5. The limited edition Transformers DW-6900TF (complete with Optimus Prime) was a gift to Mingeun from a fan, shortly after its release in 2019. He's not a Transformers fan, but it’s cool. There was a period around the time of his scandal where he refused to wear it. Recently, he’s brought it back.

6. With his first paycheck, Mingeun bought the bright blue GAX-100MSA. It was released a couple of years previously, and he had thought about it for some time. He quickly realized he didn't like it as much as he thought he would. Nevertheless, he forces himself to wear it if it matches his outfits because he spent his own money on it.

7. For his birthday in 2021, he received the limited edition MTG-B2000PH-2A from Andrew and Jaeseop. The watch is the most expensive one out of his collection, and one of his prized possessions. That doesn't stop him from wearing it almost every day.

8. As something of a gag gift, Eunsu bought Mingeun the green and white GBD-H1000 when Mingeun started going to therapy. The reasoning behind it was that the watch is made to be an exercise tracker. Eunsu thought it would be fun for Mingeun to monitor his own heart rate. Mingeun didn't. He wears it anyway.

9. Mingeun's latest purchase is the DWE-5610YU in green. It was somewhat an impulse buy, but he barely has anything green and he loves expanding his collection. Nevermind that he only has two arms and can only wear one watch at a time without looking ridiculous.

Good Mansion Wines Marks 10 Years of Serving Italian Food Imports to Region

Good Mansion Wines (GMW) is now celebrating 10 years of importing the best in Italian foods just in time for holiday shopping. “This holiday season we are featuring the largest inventory of imports that we’ve ever had,” said Dominick Cerrone, owner of the wine shop that has grown into so much more. It began in 2013, when Cerrone imported his first monocultivar (single olive) olive oil from the Marche region of Italy. “I wanted a good olive oil for my home, made from the fussy but prized Ascolana olive, and when I placed a small order of it, an explosion of interest took hold. For the first time, customers were able to get an olive oil of prized quality and distinction, rated three leaves by the definitive Italian food media Gambero Rosso, instead of the industrial products found in big box retail in the states. This was occurring during the same time as the olive oil scares in the US market, where much of the oil on shelves and grocery stores was confirmed to be neither olive nor from Italy,” he explained. Customers caught on quickly, and Cerrone realized there was a demand for procuring prized regional products throughout Italy, from balsamic vinegar to tomato products, pasta, rice and more. Establishing a direct supply chain from the grower and producer to GMW, Cerrone traveled to Italian trade shows, farms and facilities, to work with these family producers, developing very tight friendships along the way. “It’s always a very special occasion when you know and trust the people who make the food you eat. How rare is that in today’s industrial consumer model,”  he added. Good Mansion Wines has become synonymous in the Italian export market with seeking out small, fledgling family enterprises that bring distinctive, regional products to an international market for the first time. This includes working diligently to register them with the US FDA and educating consumers about them.  “This is much more than simply importing. It’s a 360-degree process for both the small Italian family producers, as well as the American consumer,” he said. According to Cerrone, in Italy, food is the culmination and primary expression of tradition and family. “Food traditions are handed down from generation to generation, innovated upon and perfected. In America, food is largely based on fads and trends, and the familial bond is weaker. Therefore, it takes lots of education and promotion to get our American customers focused away from gimmicks and fads and in touch with these hand-grown and crafted products of authenticity.” “Our first venture with olive oil was with Italian food consultant Rita Lauretti from Rome, who was just emerging onto the fledgling international export scene of small high-quality Italian foods at that time, consulting with the family company producing that oil. We worked together closely in the early years, traveling together and identifying foods of great interest to the American consumer. In fact, our company was the first that brought some products to the US market, many of which have broad exposure now in the US 10 years later,” he said.  "I started working with Dominick more than 10 years ago,” explained Lauretti, who is a food export manager in Rome. “I quickly realized that he is a pioneer of high food quality in the United States. He had the desire to import extra virgin olive oils from small producers who were awarded for their outstanding production. “Over the years, he also imported savory and sweet products that were later taken up by other importers or distributors for their unique taste: capers from Pantelleria island (Sicily), organic tomatoes from Paglione farm, (Apulia) balsamic vinegar from Acetomodena (Emilia Romagna), Pasta Mancini (Le Marche), and many, many others. He has a special touch for scouting the food goodness.” Good Mansion Wines now offers more choices than ever for gift giving or enjoying a special treat at home. There are hundreds of choices in everything from fine French chocolates, delicious Italian panettone, impressive fig products, Italian pasta and sauces. The imported foods perfectly complement the selection of fine wines, ports and dessert vintages, from all the major wine producing regions in the world. In fact, this small shop can claim the largest selection of European wines in the tri-state region. “We pride ourselves on giving Wheeling the best,” Cerrone added. “We are the US importer that was first to market for some of our Italian food imports, some of which regularly appear now on larger e-commerce sites, national food media and international shopping venues like airports through subsequent importers.” International cheeses, French pastry, craft Italian coffee and daily lunch from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. are also on the menu. Cerrone wants to offer customers a one-stop shopping site for holiday needs, comparing it to the Eataly experience available in Chicago, New York, Boston and other major cities. “I like to compare Good Mansion Wines to an entire market house, but with carefully procured and sourced products, from fresh bakery and dessert products to charcuterie and cheese items, to shelf-stable foods and wines,” he said. This makes it an attractive shopping location for regular customers from Pittsburgh, Cleveland, and Columbus who drive specifically to Wheeling to get products that are not available in these larger markets. There also is an online e-commerce site that serves customers all over the US. “Our largest online markets are actually New York City and Los Angeles,” Cerrone said. Okay besides the whole Cory X Topanga and Shawn X Angela problem I had, Boy Meets World is an incredible show.

The way it handles things and brings to light important issues? Amazing. I've never really seen a show like this before.

Not to mention it was funny and entertaining enough to keep people hooked.

Girl Meets World could've been a huge hit if done right, its a shame it didn't do well.

Gmw was too disney-fied imo. If it followed the same bmw formula it would've been a hit and this "X meets world" could've been an ongoing series that would show up every 10-15 years.

Boy Meets World (‘How to Succeed in Business’ - 5x09) - Cory/Shawn

When I first got into ‘Boy Meets World’ this was one of the few episodes that I missed (I forgot a lot of it when I watched it for the first time) but it’s now one of my favourite episodes of the series and its because its the first time that we get to see Shawn Hunter succeed.

Cory and Shawn get an internship at the same agency and Shawn does really well; Cory however, does not and gets himself fired. Of course, being quite self-centered, Cory thinks there’s something wrong with the universe as it’s always been the other way round ‘Shawn messes up; he cleans up after him’ and just then, Shawn says he’s got his job back - but as a janitor, which is an even lower position than what he had before.

The real climax to this issue, is when Cory finds out that Shawn was given a fax, cell phone and a credit card for working at the agency and he starts to feel bad about it which leads to Shawn going to him and saying

‘I can’t enjoy this because of what it’s doing to you’

‘Because it’s killing me. All my life your’e the one who messes up. I’m the one who cleans up after you, that’s the way it’s always been.’

‘I know. For the first time I’m doing something on my own and it feels good - it feels really good’

This softens Cory’s whole deminor when he realises what he’s just said.

‘Well I mean it’s supposed to feel good. You did great. I guess for the first time, I’m just jealous of you.’

(Right then Topanga tries to interrupt the moment with a statement that the audience already knows - that he’s putting too much pressure on himself but Cory’s focus is still on Shawn)

‘I’m sorry I underestimated you. I’m real proud of you’

‘Yeah well, I’m proud of you too.’

The narrative reminded me of the ‘Girl Meets World’ 4 or 5 episode plotline in Season 3 (When Maya was turning into Riley ) Because Maya was happier, getting good grades, “liking a boy her age” Riley made it all about her and said ‘You became me’ and didn’t listen/talked over her when Maya tried to call her out on her behaviour.

In that whole conversation - Shawn cared about Cory’s feelings, Cory spouted his insecurities, Shawn set him right, Cory listened to him, checked his behaviour and said what was really bothering him; while Shawn was empathetic. Then he apologised and said he was proud of him in which Shawn responded the same. And that right there. That 1 and a half conversation that the two of them just had, had way more character development/healthly communication than Riley and Maya had in 3 seasons.

Leonetta for the nostalgia? Franletta because... I've been crowned the title of the biggest Franletta shipper so I cannot not pick them?

Should I just go non-dcla and pick Rilaya from GMW? They are the reason my shipping type is besties to lovers dfxnmsnhj and also the only reason I watched gmw.

Very hard!

Now, for Ana and Mora - 8/10. Why? They are very gay. Very. Like just you wait until season 2 it's actually insane with the stuff they did with them. You know how in Violetta, everything got a bit more fruity in s2? Yeah the same thing happens in SL. Especially with Ana and Mora. I don't wanna say too much but they focus very much on a plotline about Ana and Nina living with Mora while their house is being renovated and Ana realizing she prefers to live with Mora... and it really FEELS intentional, like they wanted to take that step but stupid Disney didn't let them, so you sit there wondering why they focused so much on two besties wanting to move in together and making a deal out of it.

But still, no matter how fruity it is, they barely have any screentime in S3 which sucks, and therefore 8/10 - cause they still got a lot, even if it wasn't enough.

Anchor One: This just in! Newly christened CEO of Minkus International, Farkle Minkus, is what? That’s right, he’s married!

Anchor Two: Minkus was reported to be romantically tied to a civilian reporter for the New York Times over a year ago and it was announced via the Minkus International PR office that over the last weekend, the young bachelor tied the knot this his secretive, long-term girlfriend.

Anchor One: With the marriage announcement, however, came a full public introduction to the new Mrs. Minkus.

Anchor Two: New Mrs. Matthews-Minkus, actually. She’s a hyphen-er, apparently. According to social media platforms and released intel, Farkle married an average, all-American girl. Born to a middle-class family and growing up in public schools, Riley Matthews-Minkus isn’t exactly who most would have expected to snag one of the most eligible bachelors in New York.

Anchor One: *Laughs* I feel like that might be putting in lightly.

Anchor Two: Matthews-Minkus is an outspoken liberal, having participated in several marches for the Woman’s Movement and actively speaking out about several other controversial topics.

Anchor One: She’s also been terminated from several news media outlets for her strong political views and ideology.

Anchor Two: Honestly, I can’t wait for the matriarch of the Minkus family, Jennifer Bassett-Minkus, to come out and just say, “What was my son thinking?” Oh, come on! We’re all thinking it!

Anchor One: The girl is a loose canon. No one knows anything about her! And how is she supposed to compete? This is the New York high society we’re talking about, not some public school. She’ll flop in a month and then all we’re be hearing about is her first stint in rehab.

Anchor Two: *Laughs* Oh, stop it!

Anchor One: Mark my words; rehab in a year and divorced in two.

Honey: I’m fine, Maya.

Peaches: Riley

Honey: I mean, I just don’t get it! They have no idea who I am! They don’t know anything about me and Farkle! And they can still just write us off as ‘rehab in a year and divorced in two’?

Honey: It’s bullshit.

Jennifer Bassett-Minkus: Honestly?

Talk-Show Host: We’re all friends, here, Jennifer!

Jennifer Bassett-Minkus: Well, my first thought was ‘Oh god, he knocked her up’

*Crowd laughs*

Jennifer Bassett-Minkus: It’s true! I mean, sure he’d been running off with her from time to time for months but it wasn’t serious!

Talk-Show Host: It wasn’t? So, How did they end up married?

Jennifer Bassett-Minkus: *Scoffs* I love my son, but he’ll do anything to prove a point. Even marry some low-class, bed-buddy of his just to show me and his father that he can *raises her hands to use quotations* ‘make his own choices’. Please.

Talk-Show Host: Oh my. So I can assume you and the daughter-in-law…?

Jennifer Bassett-Minkus: We don’t see eye-to-eye.

Talk-Show Host: But this is the girl your son picked. Obviously, he wants to spend the rest of his life with her?

Jennifer Bassett-Minkus: They ‘dated’, if you can even call their little hook-ups and late night booty calls that, for a year. He doesn’t even know her, he’s just under her spell.

Talk-Show Host: Do you think Ms. Matthews, sorry Mrs. Matthews-Minkus, has ulterior motives for marrying into your family?

Jennifer Bassett-Minkus: Does the sun shine, sweetie? Of course, that little leech has another motive. She’s been poor her whole life and a rich boy looked her way! Can you really expect anything else from her kind of people? I mean, the girl’s best friend has a police record, for god’s sake!

Talk-Show Host: Are you giving us an exclusive, Jennifer!?

Jennifer Bassett-Minkus: *Shrugs* Oh sure! Why not? *Leans forward* She grew up with this little delinquent named Maya Harris or Hart or something like that. And this girl! Let me tell you, I’m positive she stole some silver the first time Farkle brought the pair of them around. And the manners, you would not believe!

Talk-Show Host: Oh my god!

Jennifer Bassett-Minkus: I know! What was my son thinking?

Talk-Show Host: Maybe he thinks he’s really in love?

What Makes a Woman Powerful?: A Closer Look at New York’s High Society

What makes a woman powerful?

In today’s society, with a new social conflict every other day and a government that just loves to turn a blind eye, I think it’s a fair question.

Is it her beauty?

Because socialites, like Jennifer Bassett-Minkus, are definitely beautiful. The woman stands regal and tall, dominating any room she graces with her presence. Her blonde hair distinguishes her in a crowd and those eyes tell tales of wisdom that go far over the heads of those beneath her.

Is it her intelligence?

Jennifer Bassett-Minkus is incredibly intelligent. Honestly, it bewildered me upon my first meeting with the woman. She easily articulates herself such a way that you feel, without question, that she is smarter than you. Odds are that she is. She’s Harvard educated, you know, and married to a man that most of America agrees in one of the most brilliant minds to walk amongst us today. She’s the mother of the ‘Next Einstein’.

Is it her morals?

See, this is where I find an inconsistency in the data.

Because Jennifer Bassett-Minkus has no morals. She does not sympathize with those less fortunate than her. She does not care that millions in her country work nine-to-five, minimum wage jobs and still cannot feed their families. She does not fight or speak for those too fearful or unable to speak for themselves.

But she’s still powerful.

No one, especially not you, dear reader, can dispute that.

You see her style and you mimic it.

You watch her choices and you trust them

You listen to her words and you believe them.

Without fail, without independent thought, because she’s Jennifer Bassett-Minkus and she’s powerful, so you mimic, you trust, you believe.

So it is not morals that make a woman powerful, but that doesn’t mean that it shouldn’t be.

A new generation of women is coming into power. Women who do care about the poor. Women who do give their own resources just so that another may suffer less. Women who fight like hell and don’t back down just because someone else feels that they should be seen and not heard.

Those are the women to mimic. Those are the women to trust. Those are the women to believe in.

Root for them!

Stop being so enamored by women like Jennifer Bassett-Minkus and start looking to the ones that have morals, that have love and fire in their souls.

Because here’s the real secret, so read carefully: You, those who view her, give a woman power.

HSM:TM:TS 1x01 Review

The Auditions was a great series premiere for High School Musical: The Musical: The Series and I’m very excited for all that’s to come. Let’s dig in!

Disney certainly got its money worth with this show. The gorgeous Utah scenery and actual on location filming really helps ground the series with a sense of realism. To that end, I really liked the little details, like the principal not wanting to spend anything on the musical, the kids social media use, and that the kids actually look like regular kids who live in regular houses and go to a regular high school

Such a talented cast! Olivia Rodrigo is a showstopper, what a wonderful rendition of Start of Something New that was and Joshua Bassett seems born to play Ricky. Sofia is an amazing dancer and I’m excited to see some of the productions they put on later in the season 

Miss Jenn reminds me of April Rhodes from Glee and I mean that as a compliment. Her delivery of, ‘’that is so fresh’’ still makes me laugh. I love that she cast Ricky as Troy on a whim for maximum drama and  of course she wants a Ms. Darbus song, she’s an agent of chaos and I’m here for it. I also liked her begging her mom for car loan payment money, you’re not really a millennial if you haven’t lived pay cheque to cheque at some point

Even though we’ve seen them in the trailer, Carlos’ first 15 minutes of both sequels and Broadway lines still made me chuckle

I like the glimpses we get of the kids home lives. Very refreshing to see Nini’s two moms and see that she has a mixed race family and with Andi Mack off of Disney Channel, tonight’s showing of HSMTMTS might be the last time any kind of lgbtq rep is seen on Disney Channel itself for quite a while. Her grandma looks too young to be in a nursing home but it was nice to see her helping Nini with her self-confidence. Poor Ricky with his parents marriage collapsing, that’s gonna be a tearjerker if and when his mom returns from Chicago to officially end things with his dad. Seems like Gina’s mom has high expectations of her which eventually lead to their scene we saw in the promo where Gina breaks down

We dove right into the love triangle at the heart of this season: Nicky vs NJ. As I was watching the first flashback scene between Nini and Ricky, I thought to myself that if they keep writing them scenes like this I just might become Nicky trash, I was trying to stay neutral but after Ricky’s audition I’m definitely team Ricky, that really was the #ultimatecomeback. Ricky singing ‘’I Think I Kind of You Know’’, the song Nini wrote for him was just too sweet; it warmed even my cold, black heart. And that shot of Ricky and EJ lighting Nini with their phones and forming a triangle? Poetic cinema

It really does seem like Nicky is the endgame ship with NJ just an obstacle in its path especially with Nini having been in love with Ricky just six weeks ago and only having met EJ four weeks ago. EJ is very supportive of Nini and I did like how sweet he is with her, that line about her being a cute chorus cow was great. I saw on Disney +’s twitter poll that the fandom is split about 66% team Ricky to 33% team EJ which is an interesting split but also reflects the writing tipping it’s hand, it does want us to like NJ but not at the expense of Nicky

One thing that I don’t like so far is the age gap between Olivia and Matt, she’s 16 and he’s 21 and they both look their age. I’m not saying that all teen roles need to be played by teens but that age gap is significant when they’re playing girlfriend and boyfriend and was an unforced error on the shows part. It reminds me of the problems GMW suffered by casting a much older Peyton Meyer to play Riley’s love interest. Matt Cornett’s age as well as EJ being the only senior of the main cast is another hint that he won’t be playing Nini’s love interest past this season

I do hope that however this love triangle ends that it’s done as cleanly as possible. Love triangles are rarely pulled off well because the show or movie or book will usually tip its hand fairly quickly as to which is the ‘real’ ship but they also usually end up damaging the characters involved. In this case Ricky is not just a rival for Nini’s affections but a would be homewrecker who’s set out to breakup Nini and EJ which if not handled carefully could make Ricky look like a bad guy

As an aside, Nini having a shirtless photo of EJ on her phone and her and Ricky hanging out alone in her bedroom in the flashback is spicy for Disney but does at least gesture more to the reality of teen life than the typical squeaky clean Disney fare

Carlos is the colour guard captain, that was in the original casting notice (back when Carlos was named Vikram) and Tim Federle mentioned in an interview that he based Carlos off of one of his best friends who was also a colour guard captain. I’ve been wondering for a couple of weeks now if Frankie Rodriguez was actually allowed to reveal that Carlos is gay because it hasn’t been talked about in interviews or mentioned in any reviews so far. His line about EJ not knowing who he is, seems like it could potentially be set up for an arc about Carlos trying to make himself known. He knew that Seb wanted to try out for Sharpay rather than Ryan so presumably he already knows him? We know that something is being teased between him and Seb but I won’t hold my breathe for getting very much from Disney, at least this season

Not much to say about the other characters so far. Kourtney is barely a step above the sassy black friend trope but I think some of it has to due with the fact that Tim Federle originally just wanted Kourtney to be a one off supportive friend for Nini but so liked the actress that he decided to make her a main. Ashlyn is supposed to have a powerful duet with Nini in the second ep so that is something to look forward to as is her relationship with her cousin EJ. Big Red is a nice supportive friend and that’s about it. Not much to Mr. Mazara either. It does seem like the dividing line between major and lesser main characters are those who have lead roles in the musical itself

I love that the mockumentary interviews happen even when they make absolutely no sense in universe 

We get some full character names from the cast list: Seb Matthew- Smith, Ricky Bowen, EJ Caswell, Gina Porter, and Nini Salazar-Roberts

Looking Ahead:

I read in reviews that EJ teams up with Gina to take down Ricky while Gina tries to take down Nini. That’s a pretty easy path to villainize EJ and sink NJ eventually while then using EJ’s panic attacks and Gina’s story line with her mom to build them back up. I sincerely hope that they don’t even try to go for one sided Gina and EJ as Sofia is the youngest cast member

Sofia did say that Gina would make things complicated for the love triangle and in a promo clip she said she was ‘intrigued’ by Ricky so we’ll see what happens

Miss Jenn supposedly left New York in unclear circumstances so I wonder where they’ll go with that. My own theory is that she used to be an extra on Law and Order: SVU and was having a torrid affair with Dan Florek before being exposed

I’ll try to have these reviews up Friday evenings but that’s dependent on when I can watch the eps. Because the pilot aired on tv we’ll actually get ratings either Monday or Tuesday which will be the only time we’ll get publicly released data otherwise all we’ll get is what Disney wants us to know and that will often just be spin. I’m very excited for this season and for season two and I can’t wait to see what’s ahead. In Girl Meets Yearbook Maya and Lucas are named favourite couple despite not being a couple and it's revealed everyone thought of them that way.

It is revealed Maya might like Lucas in Girl Meets New Teacher where Auggie reads Riverdale and questions Betty and Veronica's interest in Archie.

In Girl Meets Texas, Riley and Farkle figure out that Maya likes Lucas after she gets worked up at the possibility of him hurting himself.

Maya is then forced to admit it after Riley tells Lucas.

They go on a date but we didn't really know what was going on until Girl Meets New Year where Farkle tells everyone Riley still likes Lucas and this starts a love triangle.

This continues through to season 3 and Riley then ultimately decides Maya is having an identity crisis *cough* BULLSHIT *cough* and that she needs to find herself.

Maya does and then decides that she doesnt like Lucas anymore because she like Josh. Lucas and Riley start dating while Maya and Josh are in it for the long game.

In the finale Riley and Lucas break up and it seems they dont get back together.

Most fans believe Lucaya gets together in the future along with Riarkle.
