How Riku has no idea that Riku means so much to Sora

An Analysis through mom

Riku has always been afraid of being forgotten and left behind by Sora. And this is how he is able get manipulated by Maleficent. She tells him his greatest fears, that Sora found new friends and doesn't care about him anymore. She gives him proof letting him watch Sora being silly and argue with Donald and Goofy.

But from day one as soon as Sora is separated, he wants to find Riku. All on his mind is finding Riku (and Kairi too) and when he finds Riku in Traverse Town he is happy and to make sure he isn't dreaming he goes up to him and pulls on his mouth.

Riku is glad he had found Sora and wants to continue to play the role of protector but when it seems Sora can handle himself he doesn't know where he is supposed to fit in. Sora has these new friends and now can handle himself, Riku is afraid of being forgotten.

But throughout kh1 Sora keeps trying to reason with Riku and it's important that his friend sees what's right. And when they close the door Riku tells Sora take care of Kairi.

COM

He doesn't exactly do that.... The first thing he does is wanting to find Riku. That's on his mind. He ventures through castle oblivion in hopes he can find Riku. And when he faces Repliku he is so happy even though his thoughts of trying to find Riku is almost replaced with Naminé.

This Repliku is bitter about that and upset even saying how Sora never care about that or cared about him (being Repliku). But Riku hates how he feels towards his friend and how he wants his friend still even though he believes Sora has forgotten about him saying, You always have wormed your way into my heart," and Sora is confused by this statement.

And once Naminé tells Repliku to stop and he falls back Sora is completely overwhelmed by what happened to Repliku and what did Naminé do to him. This scene is especially good in the novel where it shows Sora holding Repliku.

Later Repliku realizes how true Sora's feelings towards him are (how he cares for him as an individual not being a Riku) before leaving, still Sora is sad he is leaving and still wants to find him.

During Rebirth/Reverse when Repliku fades away into darkness he doesn't mind if he fades away but what he actually cares is that Sora remembers him. He doesn't want to get forgotten by Sora or get mixed up with the real Riku.

Kh2

Sora wakes up and forgets everything in Castle Oblivion and still has the same desire to find Riku. Throughout kh2 all on his mind is where is Riku, is he okay, I really miss him. And it's the most precious thing. He integrates Mickey about it and it isn't until Mickey accidentally slip up that Sora is so happy and jumps for joy.

Another time during land of the dragons when he finds out Riku been there he is excited because it meant he is okay and nearby. He didn't care that he might be with the organization, he just cares about Riku. During the novel, Sora talks about fighting Riku was so fun.

And finally when he actually sees him he goes on his knees crying because he misses him and is happy to finally be with Riku. In the novel he states how happy he is to be fighting by Riku's side and is just bashful about this.

Riku doesn't care that much about himself and thinks less of himself on why anyone would actually care for him. And is surprised when Sora helps him up and brings him through the dark world. He admits in the novel, he is sad Sora is there and didn't want him to fade into the darkness but is glad he isn't alone. Sora seems to precious and important to Riku that he doesn't believe he deserves his friendship.

He is afraid of being forgotten but he accepts that he might not be worth it and as long as Sora is happy that is all that matters. He doesn't realize how much Sora truly cares about himself. They come to the conclusion they both will be okay because they're together.

Even though it's technically not them in recoded data Riku doesn't believe in his worth after how he messed up everything in the data worlds. Sora is sadden by how little he thinks of himself and thinks he is the only one trying to maintain their friendship.

When Data Sora hears him talking to him in the Olympus Coliseum worlds, he is glad to hear Riku's voice. Even when his keyblade gets destroyed Riku comes in and Sora is just happy that he is there. It means everything to him and he doesn't care that he has no way to fight, Sora was determined to save data Riku

Even ten years prior when Terra gave Riku the ability to wield a keyblade, Sora immediately wants to know about Riku. He wants to know who that man was and if he knew him. In BBS it has them both care for each other. Riku admit how important Sora is to him and wishes to get stronger to protect him while Sora blatantly tells Aqua he likes Riku, he is his best friend. He seems to want to do everything with him and wouldn't hesitate to help him from darkness.

When Ven goes to Sora's heart, Riku notices something is wrong and knows how to help him. Without questioning it, he takes his advice even if it is strange.

DDD

He goes through the exam because Riku felt like he needed to be tested, Sora didn't think either of them needed to. Sora really wanted to take the exam by his side and is a bit sad that Riku isn't there. However through his heart he feels connected to Riku and when things happen Sora knows Riku will be there.

Joshua asks Sora if he wants to give Riku a message, he tells him there's no need because he knows they will see each other soon. On Riku's side he goes through a personal journey of accepting himself despite everything he has done. He doesn't know if he deserves everyone but knows he is lucky to have Sora.

KH3

Riku still doesn't see the full extent to how much Sora cares about him. Sora just wants to be with him through out the entire game. He is constantly worried about Riku especially going into the dark world. Sora wants to join him. And once they lose connection with Riku, Sora is sad and is like see this is why I should have gone.

And since discovering the Gummiphone being able to talk to Riku, Sora constantly thinks about calling Riku and just telling Riku about how cool this place is, when they went to Fransankyoto.

Riku is surprised when Sora comes in to save him the the dark realm. He's glad he is there but doesn't think much of it. At the pre battle Riku doesn't think he means that much to Sora, he's just like any of his other friends. He talks to Repliku and allows Sora to spent time with Kairi.

However Sora is questioning why Riku is alone there and seems to want to spend time with him. Then Riku and Sora are the only ones left. Sora breaks down. Riku wants Sora's happiness beyond anything else and reassures him with his words something only Riku can do. He feels better but still Riku doesn't think his life is that important and sacrifices himself. The expression Sora makes during this scene tells you everything. Sora is hurt that Riku is too doing this.

Riku is extremely important to Sora that when trying to recover him, he is floating in Olympus like he is the most important person ever to Sora.

Riku doesn't believe he means much to Sora. He doesn't see how he's the one that Sora just wants to spend time with and searching for. He rather put Sora's happiness before his own and believes in Sora. He let him save Kairi because he believes in him and his own happiness.

Mom

Riku thought it was Kairi who meant so much to Sora. He didn't believe it was him who was supposed to find Sora. That's why he was so shocked when the fairy godmother told him his dreams were the key and it was him who was supposed to dive to the Quadratum by following Sora's heart.

He didn't realize how important he was to Sora. He kept being selfishly selfless about this. Until he realizes it was him. He is the key. And Riku means so much to Sora, but he doesn't realize how much.

This could be a deep friendship or possibly something more, but he's very important to Sora and Riku just needs to realize it...

I'm not much of a complainer, but I'll speak up anyway.

You know I read RC and SHS, and I can't stop comparing certain things & reader reactions to some characters in books on both platforms.

I read a few days ago how RC readers were complaining that there is a LI in the new book that is violent, as he bashes MC's head in or something (I won't read the book because 1 the theme is not my cup of tea and 2 I saw pictures of the LI and he is physically the cheap version of Doran Basu + the GOE actor) anyway, let's move on.... There are readers who are angry at the writer because how can he choose someone like that to be LI, when NO ONE is forcing you to choose him in the first place.

There is one character in particular in one of the SHS books that believe me, RC villains are vanilla in comparison. Last night, I decided to read the two chapters of the last update. And believe me, the trauma is REAL. Because the scenes with that character, for the most part are free, I mean, whether it's your LI or not, they show it anyways.

W A R N I N G

In the first chapter he literally has oral sex with MC while she was passed out, then he abuses a maid while asking her to tell him how she bathed MC, he's not only a murderer but a rapist, etc. I understand the RU fandom complained about this, and asked them to do something to make his personality less grotesque. SHS gave this character a little daughter, in order for us readers to feel some kind of I don't know, affection?

Let's move on... In the next chapters (I'm still not talking about paid choices or if he's your LI, this all happens for free), he wanted to kill MC by shooting her with an arrow as if she was a hunting animal, as MC dared to answer him, he wanted to take it out on his sister-in-law's maid, wanting to rape her in front of everyone to which his father, replies that why all the fuss if she's a maid and his son can do whatever he wants with her (I understand it's based on another culture and other times)..In the last chapters, not only does he continue to harass MC with looks, etc. but also MC can see how he treated the women who rejected him. Leaving them naked, burning in the sun, without food and water, climbing a tree, because for him they were his rebellious birds. Not only MC witnesses the brutality of his actions but also how the poor woman from exhaustion falls from the top of the tree and dies.

As you can see here on Tumblr there aren't many SHS readers and I don't follow other social media to know what they think of this update. Now, where am I going with all this? I don't want to say that RC readers complain about everything, but I do want to say that they complain about things they can avoid.

You're not going to tell the creator of The Handmaid's Tale, hey, I think it's a bit too much I'd like you to cancel the show. No, you just DON'T WATCH IT, because you know it's brutal. If RC is giving you the option to avoid some scenes or characters and you still choose them and on top of that you COMPLAIN, my god shut up.

Believe it or not, there are people who end up feeling a kind of romance with their abusers. But that doesn't make it not real, so why do you want to fuck with a writer, go read novels from the last century and tell me about it. Writing is an art and these platforms give you the possibility to avoid unpleasantness or go on under your own will. So stop complaining, or what are you? 15 years old? Oh, my God.

One thing is that they give you the possibility to avoid characters or situations and another is that it is directly part of the story (example the character in the SHS book I mentioned before) AND YET, I am the one who keeps reading it even knowing that it is going to cause me repulsion. YOU DON'T HAVE TO READ ALL THE BOOKS, NO ONE IS POINTING A GUN AT YOU. If something is too much for you, stop reading it.

And yes, I complained to the SOTCN scene leak because they never put a freaking WARNING WHAT YOU'RE ABOUT TO READ IS A LITTLE TRAUMATIC. Anyway. Grow up a bit and before complaining ask yourselves if you are the one choosing or not, and even then if it makes you uncomfortable stop reading it.

Hearing the glass shatter, Lane allows herself to take a deep breath. The threat had gone. When a shadow passes over her window, fear strikes through her heart for a moment. But she realizes quickly it’s just Cain. His silhouette appears, sharp and unmistakable, carved against the dim moonlight. Her body deflates with relief as she rushes to unlock the window, her fingers trembling. The lock sticks for a moment, and panic surges before it finally opens.

His face is tight with rage, eyes glittering with something barely contained. Wind has torn through his usually styled silver hair, and his breathing is heavy, shallow. He’s not even trying to hide how unsettled he is.

“Are you hurt?” His voice is clipped, urgent. His eyes trace every inch of her with surgical precision, circling her like a sentry. She shakes her head once, and only then does he meet her eyes again, stormy and carrying something unsaid.

“What happened? Where is it?” He’s standing closer than usual, much closer. She should feel suffocated, maybe. But she doesn’t. There’s something steadier about his presence. Something grounding. As if she could lean into him and the rest of the world would fall away.

“It was bashing at the door. Then... nothing. Just silence. And then it broke something.” Her voice shakes as the words fall out. “I heard glass break.”

She hates how small she sounds. Hates how she’s still shaking, even though the danger is gone. No matter how much she wills it away, fear clings to her like a second skin. Her heart’s still racing, and her muscles are coiled like a spring.

Cain doesn’t say anything. He watches her as she sits down heavily on the bed, her fists curled in her lap. Without a word, he moves to her, standing in front of her. His fingers are cool as they brush her chin, lifting it gently.

“You have nothing to fear,” he murmurs, and she wants so badly to believe him. The steel blue of his eyes is mesmerizing, like winter sky before a storm. She lets herself breathe him in.

But just as quickly as he came close, he pulls away, the coolness of his touch vanishing like a ghost.

In the window reflection, she catches the sudden flash of crimson wings. Pileon. Cain gives a subtle nod, and the demon disappears to enter through the main entrance of the estate. Cain straightens with a sigh, his expression unreadable.

“We’ll have to inspect the house,” he says, voice flatter now. Tired.

As he steps toward the door, something inside her clenches. A flicker of dread. She doesn’t want to be alone again. As if sensing it, he turns to her with a faint smile, barely there, like a promise not fully spoken.

“Lock the door behind me. Anhea will be here soon.”

And just like that, he’s gone.

The squad’s arrival sounds like distant thunder through the floorboards. Anhea says something Lane can’t remember and slips out again before she can respond. She doesn’t stop her. She just lies back on the plush bed and stares at the ceiling. The idea of sleeping feels impossible. The shadows on the walls twitch and crawl, and her imagination feeds on every creak in the house.

Then—knock knock knock.

She doesn’t look up. “Come in.”

“Are you going to sleep like that?” Dmitry’s voice cuts through the fog in her head. She sits up quickly, startled. Cain’s behind him, quiet, still, his eyes locked on hers. Lane feels heat rush to her face and looks away.

Dmitry doesn’t wait for permission. He moves closer, reaching for her arm. “Give me your hand.”

She obeys out of confusion rather than trust. He probes gently at the muscle.

“Amir was attacked from behind. The depth required more strength than you’re capable of.” He seems pleased by that. Like her innocence is a needed win. He steps away, but Cain doesn’t.

“Cain will stay here tonight.” There’s no explanation. She doesn’t need one. The message is clear: whatever killed Amir had been looking for her.

“What about Anna?” Her voice comes out quieter than she expects.

“She’s staying with Kira.” Dmitry watches her a moment longer than necessary. There’s something like surprise in his expression, as if he hadn’t expected her to care. Then the door clicks shut behind him.

Cain settles into the chair beside her bed. She can’t stop looking at him.

She feels odd. Like she’s standing too close to the edge of something she doesn’t understand. Part of her wants to lean into it, reach for him, figure out what that thing is behind his eyes. Another part of her wants to run, to get as far away from that pull as she can.

“You’re thinking so intently it gives even me a headache.”

His voice cuts through the thick silence, almost teasing. She startles and glances over at him. He’s watching her with that steady, unwavering gaze. In the dim candlelight, he looks human. Almost. The wings are the only giveaway. Without them, he could be anyone. Maybe even someone she might’ve passed on the street. Someone she might have loved, in another life.

When an urge to lay down and shuts her eyes settles in her, she pushes it aside to sit up and ask Cain something, mostly just trying to keep herself from falling into an inevitable nightmare.

“Do angels need to sleep?” He raises an eyebrow as if aware that wasn’t what she had been thinking about. Shifting in the uncomfortable chair, he shrugs.

“Not as often as humans do.” He answers. Cain doesn’t look tired but she knows his appearance isn’t an indicator of his internal being.

“When was the last time you slept?” She lies down but keeps her eyes on him. He shrugs, seemingly indifferent. But she can see the way he leans against the chair, trying to get comfortable enough.

“It’s been a couple days. Someone has to watch over this place.” He tries to smile, but it’s thin, tired. She frowns. Cain always stands at the edge of everything, offering pieces of himself without complaint, without expectation. The kind of quiet sacrifice people don’t notice until he’s already bleeding.

The bed is big enough. More than big enough. She shifts, then pats the space beside her.

“You should sleep now.” He doesn’t move. Just looks at her, unreadable.

“That chair isn’t comfortable. And there’s no reason for you to stay awake all night and watch me sleep.” Her voice falters on the word watch. The idea should be strange, even unsettling. But it isn’t. It’s worse. It’s comforting. And she hates that. He thinks it over for a whole minute. She nearly falls asleep watching him weigh the unspoken cost of closeness, only jolting awake when the bed dips as he lays down above the covers.

“You can get under the blanket if you want,” she murmurs, trying to keep her tone even. It comes out too soft, too vulnerable. A flicker of amusement passes through his features before it’s gone in an instant. After another full minute of deliberation, he shifts to get under the heavy fabric. His wings fold in awkwardly, rustling softly with each motion. She can’t help but imagine how it must feel, being too large for the world, never quite fitting into the spaces meant for others.

Lane feels wide awake now that the angel is in her bed. The presence beside her is magnetic and terrifying. She stares at the ceiling, her pulse steady but fast. Unfortunately for her, the silence is unsettling and the fear from earlier begins to creep back in. Like something pressing at the door of her mind, waiting to break in.

“What’s wrong?” Cain asks, voice quieter than usual. She turns her head to look at him, surprised to find him already watching her.

“Why do you think somethings wrong?”

“Your breathing changed.” He says, as if that’s a normal thing to notice about a person. As if he memorized her rhythm and caught the tremor in it the second it appeared. Letting out a soft sigh, she doesn’t shy away from his studious gaze.

“Whatever it was…it was trying to get to me.” Her voice cracks, just a little. And she hates that too.

Cain’s face gives away nothing. No pity. No worry. Somehow, that makes her feel safer.

“Nothing will get to you when I am near.” He states. A promise made like fact.

She wants to believe him. But her body remembers the moment she plummeted through the air, the emptiness of falling alone. How close she came to death.

“You’re not always near.” The words slip out, and they sting even as she says them.

A frown tugs at his lips. “That doesn’t happen very often. Believe me, I can be there for you.”

“Why?” The question leaves her before she can stop it. She doesn’t understand why he stays so close to her. Why he keeps showing up. Why it feels like there’s something unspoken between them, barely restrained.

“You’re just as lonely as I am.” The accuracy of the answer pierces through her chest.

Maybe that was it. The quiet recognition in each other. The ache of being apart from the world. Maybe that’s why she was drawn to Cain, why his coldness didn’t scare her, why his stillness felt like sanctuary.

Perhaps they could belong to each other.

“I don’t understand you,” she admits. The moonlight spills across his face. She studies the soft silver of his hair, the shadow of his lashes, the faint crease between his brows.

“Do you want to?” His voice is low, patient.

“I’m not sure. I don’t think I’ll like what I’ll find.” But a part of her already does. That part just scares her more than any abomination ever could.

He smiles faintly, like her fear is the most honest thing she’s said all night.

They’re both quiet after that, still facing each other, uncertain. She traces the shape of the beauty mark under his eye with her gaze. Not an imperfection, not to her, just proof that he was real, not a dream conjured by fear and longing.

He doesn’t interrupt her study of him. He lets her look.

She isn’t sure when exactly she falls asleep, only that the last thing she remembers is the soft sound of his breathing and the inexplicable sense that this moment was real.

In the early light of morning, Anna moves softly down the hall, the worn floorboards creaking faintly under her careful steps. The air is still, heavy with the quiet that follows a long night of fear and vigilance. She knows Lane is most likely still asleep by now, so she doesn't hesitate to gently ease open the door to their shared room.

A flash of white catches her eye. Silken feathers, impossibly pristine in the dawn light. Her breath catches as she takes in the sight before her.

Cain lies beside Lane, his wings partially unfurled, the tips resting against the edge of the bed like fallen snow. Lane’s head is nestled against his chest, tucked into the curve of his body as if she belongs there. His arms are wrapped around her protectively, most of their embrace hidden beneath the thick blanket. It’s not just closeness. It’s trust, vulnerability, something unspoken blooming between two people who rarely let anyone in.

Anna watches them for a moment, blinking in disbelief. The stoic, distant angel, asleep with Lane of all people, his face softened in slumber, no trace of the guarded expression he usually wore.

A smile curls on Anna’s lips as she steps back, careful not to disturb the scene. She closes the door with practiced quiet, her heart a little lighter than before.

Star Wars: Republic Commando: Triple Zero, Chapters 3 & 4

Chapter 3

It can be hard, sometimes, to differentiate what is what in this series. For example, Jedi-bashing or just general stupidity (either on the character or the author's part)? It's hard to tell. But, given these books' track record, I'm going to err on the side of cautiousness and give this a point.

Jedi-Bashing: 5

Because the phrase "without thinking" makes me think of brainwashing and certain anti-Jedi arguments. Am I jumping to conclusions? Maybe. Has this series given me any reason not to? No.

"It was another reason why Ordo adored his sergeant: he was the archetypal Mando'ad. A Mandalorian man's ideal was to be the firm but loving father, the respectful son learning from every hard experience, the warrior loyal to constant personal principles rather than ever-changing governments and flags.

Also, if Kal Skirata is the ideal of a traditional Mandalorian, then Satine's reforms were both entirely justified and did not go far enough.

Chapter 4

Out of all the characters in this series, Delta Squad have the most right to be full of themselves.
