I Was Thinking That He Was One Of My Earliest (And All-Time) Favorite Characters In Netflix. He First Showed Up As The Superintendent That Erica Said In Episode 12 (Season 1). He Became A Traitor To George And Harold Because He Found Melvin At The End Of The Episode, Trusted Him That He Will Go The "Super Smart School Of His Dreams" (Says George At The EP12 Recap) And Furthermore, Fires Mr. Krupp & Expells The Boys So He Can Stay At Jerome Horwitz Elementary School. Before He Stayed, He Tells The Boys To "Rearrange The Letters To Find My True Identity" (Superintendent Himself). As The Boys Rearranged, They Found A Minor New Character In The Show. As He Shows His "Awful" (Harold, S2 EP4) Look, The Boys Didn't Know He Had One (Which Is Being Held Again At The 5-Year Anniversary). In The S2 Credits, The Character's Name Is Undeniable. An Evil Cyborg Melvin From The Future Named Melvinborg (Full Name "Melvinborg Richard Sneedly"). He Invents The Teachertrons (Which Are Robots Whose Inventor Is A Robot) (Episode 1), The BNA-In-You 2000, The You-Want-Size-With-That 2000 (Which Is His Final Invention Along With Melvin), and so on. He was left by George and Harold trying to get Mr. Krupp back (Episode 2), didn't agree to meet him, and horrifyingly turns to a bee, which after he accidentally shooted Ms. Ribble (Episode 3). He asked Mr. Krupp to insert his Rank Tank 2000, became the judge of the "Advancimal" competition, extracted the bag of the lawn mower, and instantly knocked out by Poopacabra (Formerly Ratrick) (Episode 4). Eight Episodes Later, He Took The 4th Graders To His Tricky Final Exam, "Courtesy of this relevant comic". And An Episode Later After that, He turned to a hovercraft and Finally, No one else surely knew that he perished (but Mr. Krupp was happy to see him gone and to be principal again).

Time is fucked up in OFMD s2 and that's okay

I mean, we all know it. Time doesn't make any sense in ofmd. We saw in ep5 that Stede and the crew had a whole long ass adventure while Ed was just out fishing with Fang. The first arc isn't possible in one day, while fishing couldn't have taken more than 3 or 4 hours.

But what if it's more than that? What if it's a feature and not just continuity jokes or just super long ass days?

In season one, there was an active discontinuity in genre: comedic (some said muppety), romantic, dramatic or real-life like. Each character stuck to their own genre. This season, it's less the case, the genres all blend together to give us one romantic-comedy-drama show. I feel it's not as clear cut as it was, the vibes are more smoothed between scenes and characters.

What is not smoothed out this season is time. It makes no fucking sense. Here, we're made to believe, thanks to some continuity in some arcs, that everything happened in 4 days (one for each ep4-7). What if that's not true? What if each story advances within its own timeline, each arc independant from the others?

Let's recap some of the ep4-7 arcs. We have Izzy's self love/internal peace and discovery arc. Pete and Lucius relationship. Stede's growth as a pirate (with Izzy's help). Ed's own self acceptance. Ed and Stede romance of course. The crew, as a whole, also has its own timeline. We could add the Swede settling at Spanish Jackie's, Zheng's recruitment, or Minor Prince Dude launching a cabale against pirates with some Other British Dudes. And also, the delivery of the clocks in the thousands of Zheng's ship army.

Each one of those arcs/stories should take so much time, ranging from days to weeks or even months. Yet we're made to believe they all happened in 4—albeit very long—days? I call bullshit. It's not that ofmd's days are exceptionnally long. I believe each story took exactly the time it should have taken, but each in its own dimensional time pocket. They just happen to blur and meet sometimes.

Depending on which character you focus on, the time lapse between the scenes isn't the same, it's as simple as that:

Izzy's evolution makes perfect sense if you let him take his time. It's not out of character, it's out of time. His leg and forehead scar healing that fast are also proof of it. He had the time to heal and reconstruct himself. Something like months.

Ed and Stede felt to me as if at least two weeks had passed between their kiss on the deck under the moonlight and them making love after the Ned Low debacle. (It doesn't make it less rushed to them, mind you!)

Same for the crew: they're bored at the beginning of ep6, telling stories and rearranging furniture. Jim says things are going slow now. Do you say that after only 2 days of peace after escaping a storm and a death condemnation? Nope. Some weeks has passed.

Pete and Lucius are going at another pace entirely. When it's fast for the others, it's going slow for them (Lucius coming to term with his Blackbeard's obsession). When it's slow for the others (the weeks previously mentioned) it's fast for them (24h).

I'll stop here for the examples, you can figure out some others for yourselves.

Also also. The clocks. It's the symbol of it, really. First in ep4 Mary destroyed that cuckoo, then in ep7 all those clocks literally exploding? The show is literally saying: "time is fucked up, we know, what if we didn't bother with it?" It's honestly the same with all the (brilliant) historical inaccuracies happening.

They wanted to tell a story, which had many other stories within, but it didn't fit. So creators just said fuck it, it's a story, we can do whatever the fuck we want. They know what they're doing with their characters. They're writing their stories.

So yeah. We shouldn't try to take it too seriously and bother about time accuracy. It just won't fit.

Mashle: Magic and Muscle Season 1 Re-Cap + Season 2 - Episode 1

This anime shits all over JKR in the best way possible. Highly Recommended if you can make it through the 2nd half of Season 1.

Overall Rating So Far: 8/10 with hopes it will stay there.

For comparison, season 1 ended up 6/10. TToTT as to why...

I'm writing this while re-watching season one, and maaaaan what a strong start Season 1 had!! 9/10 for the first 4 episodes!!

I LOVE MASH AND HIS REALISTIC TAKES.

The pacing got completely thrown off after episode 5. Did we really need those fight to be THAT long and drawn out?? No. I get that animation studios are limited in how far into the manga they can go in a given season, but I would have preferred anime original filler over 2 episodes of metal punch dude, and the whole "chamber of secrets" esque episodes...

Despite being sorely disappointed by the second half of season 1, I did finish it. Starting episode 1 of Season 2, I completely forgot where the last episode had left off and it hasn't even been that long!! I had to laugh at just how much my brain had tuned out by the end, which is sad, because this is such an amazing premise.

HOWEVER

SEASON 2 EPISODE 1 BROUGHT BACK THE DRIVE TO WATCH!!

The first episode of season 2 doubles down on poking ALL sorts of holes in the plot of Harry Potter and sidestepping any massive overlaps to avoid copyright. BUT IT'S SO OBVIOUS, I LOVE IT.

We started off with a small recap of the end of season 1 and honestly I don't remember most of it happening.

Woo they beat the Tom Riddle/Abel Walker, Woo they won tons of points for their dormitory, Woo Mash's super special "magic spell" the Suplex!!!

But oh no! There is a rumor that Mash can't use magic has gotten out! To be fair, it was only a matter of time. Bicep Smash Magic can only get you so far lolol.

The little celebration party is very cute, and suddenly Abel and Abyss show up, and Mash is just totally chill with them joining in their party. Abel even brought a deck of cards and they're playing bullshit of all games lmfao

Personally I want to know why Dot has his mouth and face all bandaged up, but I assume that's Lemon's doing for some reason or another lol

Let me just say, I love Abel and Abyss. Abel is terrifying and carrying around his creepy doll and freaking Finn out, and literally just wants to have fun with everyone. He's far more incompetent, or maybe just normal? than he seems. And cares about Abyss!! And Abyss is doing his best to take care of his master, and thanks Mash for stopping them both. And can't talk to women!!

We love a traumatized bishonen.

Mash gets called to the Bureau of Magic and basically gets called a Mudblood to his face for not having magic and is being sentenced to death.

AND DRACO MALFOY SHOWS UP TO SAVE HIM.

You cannot dissuade me that this isn't another Draco.

And of course, to counter Draco/Ryoh Grantz, we get Knock Off Harry Potter and gang!

Neville with a dragon? Snow girl is Luna? The one with the book is Hermione? Obviously these are also original characters and there is no one to one with characters, but it's fun to try and place them.

Fake Harry Potter / Orter Madel says the most Not Harry Potter thing ever, and its hilarious that a character known for going against the rules has a caricature doing exactly the opposite.

Fuckin' mood Mash. Where the hell did RON come from??? ah.. his only purpose is to narrate what's happening. Makes sense.

The magi-parasite shows up, mob deals with, and it should be a done deal, but Orter continues to push the issue as Ryoh tries to stop him.

Will Mash be taken away and executed? He's not budging. Will Draco and Harry fight? What will become of Mash now that Dumbledore and Finn's Big Bro have shown up?

Only Friends Music EP3 (1/2)

What am I to you?

Another installment of the Only friends music series. The details continue to be amazing, all praise JoJo. 

Quick recap, music is used in three different ways:

Just background music (Background) - It’s important and creates an atmosphere, like using Disco Frog for Mew and Cheum’s chat at the bar. These I will not use unless I see a theme or something important later.

Playing with Music (Playful) - It’s like body language, the music will pause, start up, move along faster or slower. It's intentionally moving with what is happening on screen.

Verbal/Vocal - Music that is telling us things. It could be songs that have names that seem important or have lyrics that may or may not be in the show. If there are lyrics I will include them, but will specify if they are in OF, and where they start and stop.

Nick’s fallen hard, so hard, he’s using sex to plead with Boston to need him, love him, SEE him. Nick loves Boston, knows him better now, knows he can’t step out of the narrow box Boston has put him in, but now he’s cornered. Even though Nick sees himself in Boston, he has to keep his pride in check so he can play the submissive cute boy Boston wants. 

“You're down for me. You can’t survive a day without me. I guess my status will be promoted soon.” He knows he’s being needy, Boston’s told him as much, so he’s doing the only thing he knows Boston won’t hate: Using sex to make Boston love him. Nick’s been throwing himself at Boston over and over, everyday. Until he feels sure that Boston will do anything to keep him from going away. Nick got brave, bringing up his status again with Boston. Boston says “It did. I’m your regular now.” Not what Nick was hoping for, he goes quiet. 

Song: Daydreaming At Night by Heyson Scene: Boston and Nick discuss what they are Type: Playful

Song starts after “I’m your regular now” with a ticking sound, the keyboard chords come in when Boston becomes soft to him, and the drums start after “we did promote our status though” the music sounds more and more hopeful, mirroring Nick's mood. And as Boston stands up we get the vocals. 

Nick’s other tool he can use to get Boston to bend, to become a little more soft to him, is to sulk. He did it in the darkroom, asking If he should be glad that he’s a favorite. He did it when he it asked what they were and ended up choosing Fuck Buddies. This time he’s getting Boston to give him a few more crumbs of hope. He'll do it again and again.

Song ends when Nick sets down the picture of the friends.

This whole song hurts so much, unrequited love, maybe even obsession over someone who the singer thinks of as a replica.

It’s a simple scene, Boston comes to ask about cameras for the Hostel, and this cute song starts playing as they discuss security cameras. Nick brings up sound recording 3 times, Boston saying no each time, and Nick accuses him of not being interested in education. 

Nick might be disappointed in Boston not wanting to share in what he likes. This is a maybe for me.

Nick wanted Boston to not just rely on him for camera stuff, wanting Boston to do some work on his own. This feels weak to me.

Nick is disappointed in Boston not wanting to be “educated” by spying on people. Nick is seeing himself in Boston, just like he tells Top in ep4. This is the second song that’s brought it up. So what in Boston is he seeing of himself? This is the explanation I like the most.

Boston is heavy handed with his manipulation, Nick is softer, quieter, quite literally. But they’re still out to get to their goal, they’re both obsessed. Boston uses mostly video surveillance, Nick uses sound, but I would not be surprised if he’d use anything he can get his hands on. Whatever is best for the situation. 

Nick is trying to stretch Boston's morals, no matter what the education comment means. He tries three times to convince Boston to use sound recording. As @rocketturtle4 said, "He is trying to lead Boston astray." And I agree. Nick is soft, Boston is loud.

Putting in what was heard in the show because the rest is much the same, I’m going to say I don’t have enough information on this. It looks like Top is letting down his barriers and is enjoying his time with Mew. This is a song I’d love to come back to in the future.

Watching this scene “knowing” Beam is a dealer, not a lover, makes me think Beam knows Mew is a potential partner, and he wants to mess with Top. Beam “I’m taking care of you well in and out of bed” Beam knows what he’s doing and I don’t think Top told the whole truth. I think there is more to Beam and Top's relationship.

Is the song from Beam and Mew’s perspective? This interaction did mess with Mew(and me) 

Another option is the song is from Top’s point of view, a version of Top who wants to date Mew, but is being made into a villain who Mew has to hold at a distance. 

I do want to say Top starts calling Mew his boyfriend after this at the Pool party. Although that was in front of Ray, who he was feeling threatened by.

As Ray and Sand are eating together, they continue the food innuendo. “It’s so good, I guess I have to eat it more often.” Sand replies “what is this? You’re not my special one. I don’t have to cook for you repeatedly” The music starts here, a bassline just repeating a riff. Sand reminds Ray again that they are not together, and that he said it was a one time thing.

As Sand walks away, Ray grabs his hand, and the music changes, we get rhythm guitar and wordless vocals. “Hey, Seriously, Are you ok with this?” More guitar as sand replies “Yeah, You’re happy, I’m happy. We don’t develop it. It shouldn’t be a problem, right?” Another change in guitar melody with “But I still want to talk to you” Sand reminds Ray, “I can differentiate between love and sex.” As they settle out the rest of it the music goes quieter again. Until Ray says “Finger-licking good.” and walks away, and we finally get the lyrics.

Stuck in a cycle, going around and around, we’re back at just friends, separating love and sex, Ray going off after flustering Sand “Finger licking good” “Priceless Night” They’re both making the same mistakes, Sand falling in love, saying he can separate love and sex. Ray falls for the person who saves him. 

They can’t get unstuck from the cycle, they can't communicate, but every time they go around this cycle, they might hope that it’ll be different.

Ray himself is stuck in a cycle with his mom’s death and falling in love with his savior. Sand might also be stuck in his own cycle with the baggage of his ex and Top.

Okay so I got through ep4 of Queen Charlotte a few days back and didn’t have much to say because it was mostly ‘recap but from George’s pov and he’s maaaaaaaaad.’

I do think, knowing the little I do about George III (namely, that he was, as monarchs go, apparently a pretty decent, intelligent, moral person, and has probably been unfairly slandered by happening to be the person in charge when America kicked off and had a revolution) that it’s both unfair to him and uninteresting to him to have the central concern of his mental instability be how it affected Charlotte, at a time when he had known her for a few days. Like, for someone who has a certain level of introspection, the fear of being mad would be, I think, terrifying on a number of levels — and if that person were a king, no matter how infatuated he was with his wife, his concerns about what that would mean and how it would affect the people around him would realistically range rather more broadly. Much like the thing with Lady Danbury and her rapey marriage, it’s not really a funny or lighthearted subject for the person who is experiencing it. It can be told in a funny and lighthearted way, but doing that requires a certain narrative remove from the real impacts it has on the person most affected. AND ALSO I really didn’t like the throwaway notion of Pompom being a rescue dog from Munroe’s dungeon of horrors. So that episode was, imo, a boring fail.

On the other hand, this is explicitly a romance series, and the genre framing encourages a level of shallowness. The best romance writers can include these themes in a sensitive and thoughtful way without disrespecting the genre, and indeed in a way that can empathise with and enhance the motifs of the genre, buuuut….I think we’re all aware that Netflix neither hires the best nor allows them to work at their best because everything is workshopped through 5000 sensitivity and advertising advisors until you have the proverbial committee designing a camel disguised as a twitter trend.

Someone tries to kill Vera, dammit she killed the guy who tried.. Gustav reunites with the Eks. Zac interrogates Linus for nothing? Nina sets him straight, as she should. Linus attacks him for talking shit about Sonja, that makes me happy. Stay away from my traumatized boy. Winston! Barry gives him an apartment, he doesn’t want it. Winston needs a parent 😭 Emil informs his group about how they are looking for Sonja. Tony and Dante gets rid of of the body of the hitman and Vera calls the leak H-H and I fucking knew it! I knew it was him! Zac is home. And Vera is there! And Tony. Zac is so dead haha. Vera tries to talk Zac into giving her Sonja. The Ek family try to have a family dinner in custody and Zac returns. He talks to Nina. He asks Nina to tell him if she meets Sonja. Nina confesses to killing Roland. Zac is such an ass. Zac and Gustav have a chat about Sonja. Zac stops outside Linus’ cell and just stares at him? He is totally the reason why he gets kidnapped again later, I’m sure. Sonja leaves with Gerafi. Tove says Gustav have to choose between her and his job. Zac and Linus are missing. Linus is in the car with Zac. Looks like Zac said had told him that Sonja had texted him to meet up, but Zac is totally giving him to Vera. Tony pulls up and takes Linus and pushes him into the trunk. ZAC PLEASE DIE! Tony drives off with Linus. Linus is taken out and is with Vera. Vera calls and tells her she has Linus. She fight with Yussuf in the car and escapes. Kevin and Barry❤️ Kevin is going to Thailand? Good for him. Barry calls Emil. Vera shows Linus her weed plantation. Vera talks about her husband being killed by Sonja. Sonja is watching ice skaters? Lukas shows up. Zac lies to Emil about where Linus is. Barry and Emil chats. Barry wants to be a secret cop after serving jailtime. Lukas and Sonja chat in the car about Gerafi. Sonja and Lukas takes Zac! Good. And they taze H-H. Gustav thinks there’s another leak, and he is right. Sonja intergates Zac and finds out he gave Linus to Vera. She tries to attack Zac. Please shoot him. He has some valid points, but now I hate him. Zac talks about Gerafi. I have a feeling Lukas will kill Zac. He did, omg they actually killed him. OMFG!!!! I had a feeling they would since ep 1 of s6.

L-Pop on Disney + ep4-6 Recap/Review

So legitimately this is one of my favorite shows Disney+ Latin America has done. Did not see that on my 2023 Bingo card!

Ep4 - It’s the qualifier episode so we get more performances this time which was a lot of fun and just what I was hoping for. Sweet Ji-Won making Andrea an ugly poster - they are just the dumbest and cutest. Ofc the group is being absolutely insane as they prep. We got Indra with her sage, Tomas trying to hug Ji-Won, and them memorizing capitals to calm their nerves. The sillies are so silly. I’m just honestly having a good time. And the they miss the cut …by 1!

Ep5 - Obviously they weren’t going to stay down for long. Absolutely dying at Tomás not showering for days so he can scrub thru the videos to find the other team that cheated to get disqualified. And then Hye-Jin using her wits to blackmail the competition lady so she actually would disqualify them. I’m just obsessed with this group. They’re all absolutely insane and lovable. I love how invested everyone is in Ji-Won and Andrea’s relationship too - as am I!! They’re so adorable also the fact that he’s always bringing her food to flirt I’m 😭.

The scene with them filming their music video!! First the hilarity of them trying to scale the wall when Indra walks through an open gate 😂 and then the MV was really good! The song kind of reminded me of Dynamite by BTS lmao. I’m curious if we’ll get these songs on Spotify they’re all stuck in my head now (ticky ticky toc toc) . Also props to the director keeping the Pablo bit going even when they were all running away from the cop and still blocking Pablo’s face with his camera 🤭

Ep6 - The big finale already and I’m just sad this is already ending. But Andrea convincing Sylvana to stay and encouraging the team by showing her talent show video and them all agreeing to call the team L-Pop why are they all so cute?! The vintage shop scene was adorable and the whole group getting caught watching Andrea/Ji-Won again, it never stops being funny. And I really love that Pau always encourages Andrea with K-Pop even tho it’s clearly not her thing 🥲 and just always shaking her head at the parents pushing her into dentistry. Ugh supportive sisters got me 🥺

Idk what’s going on with Diego, like is he supposed to be flirting with Andrea bc I can’t. Im so glad Ji-Won finally made his move tho!! But ah that cliffhanger — I need a s2 stat!

Anyway this show was just good vibes, good heart, cringey but proud! 10/10 highly recommend for anyone with any fan obsession that should get them institutionalized 😍
