The Christmas Dinner
Summary: You go to your parents Christmas dinner for work and you two get forced to sit next to each other
Reader x Seonghwa
Fluff and hints of smut
use of the word “oppa” a few times (literally once)
25 Days of Christmas- Day 5
Word count- 2.3k (unedited)
12-5-19
_______________________________
You absolutely loved Christmas. It was your favourite time of the year, but this time specifically you dreaded. It was time for your mother's Christmas dinner. You were usually the only non-employee there because your mom usually takes advantage of the fact the company pays and you get a free dinner, which you aren’t really complaining about free food. It was normally a bunch of old guys and middle aged women along with two or three younger people near your age. It was a formal event so you wore the fanciest dress you could find. The dress you decided to wear was a short black dress that went a few inches above your knees. The top of the dress was embroidered with sequins and rhinestones that made your cleavage stand out. You looked in the mirror and saw your curled hair that fell perfectly around your shoulders and your sparkly makeup that would make anyone want to look in your direction. You honestly looked hot, too bad there wasn’t anyone you could fuck in the restroom. Just kidding… unless… anyway y’all were running a little late and it may or may not be your fault. Your family finally arrived at the restaurant and you had to practically run after your parents while wearing heels. You were way behind them since you decided to be an idiot and wear heels. Everyone was now sitting at the long table including your parents. Everyone’s eyes were on you, obviously, because you were running in the room with your heels clicking on the floor looking like a crazy person. You saw the only empty seat was at one of the ends next to a boy you didn’t know. You looked at your mom cursing her for leaving you by yourself. You awkwardly sat next to the boy after giving him a small smile. You immediately took the menu and began looking at it trying to make yourself look as un-awkward as possible. You honestly were too scared to look at anyone because you probably looked crazy. You look up and turn to find your mom but you immediately made eye contact with the boy next to you and you feel your heart stop in your chest. He’s cute. No, he’s perfect. You feel a blush start to creep up on your cheeks and you hear a chuckle next to you, “I’m Seonghwa.” You turn to look at who you know who is Seonghwa, “I-I’m Y/N.” You watched as his eyes scanned you, eyes lingering on your chest. You also took a minute to look him over, he had dark hair that went over his piercing brown eyes. He was so good looking it physically made your heart feel like it was gonna pop out of your chest. He looks back to your face with a smirk, “so, what’re you doing here?” You gestured to your parents, “they dragged me here so they wouldn’t have to make me dinner.” He laughed and even his laugh was beautiful, “Yeah same, except I volunteered to come for the free food.” You made a noise of understanding, “yeah, I did that the first year then my mom thought I liked it so now I’ve been dragged here for the past 3 years. Is your mom or dad new at the company? This is the first time I’ve seen you.” He nods, “yeah, it’s gonna be a year in late January. For the first 20 minutes we were sitting here I honestly regretted coming here. But then, a cute girl came in running in heels and it made it a lot more interesting.” Your heart was beating so hard in your chest, you were sure Seonghwa could hear it from where he was sitting. You looked down and bit your lip to contain your squeal. “Y-yeah… You’re gonna regret it anyways probably. I’m not the most interesting person to talk to.” He was about to respond but got cut off since we had to order. You usually got the garlic roasted spaghetti but now that you’re sitting next to a cute boy, you weren’t gonna do that to either of you. You were listening to the other orders to see if there was anything that caught your interest, but of course you didn't, so you end up getting the homemade ravioli. You and Seonghwa were basically secluded as you two were at the very end and there wasn’t any chairs in front of either you or seonghwa so it’s most likely no one is even noticing either of you. You were getting uncomfortable in the stupid dress you were wearing. You never wore dresses, not even to parties or certain fancy events, but since you were representing your mom you thought it was the least you could do. “So… Tell me about yourself.” You look up at him with a small pout, “I’m not very interesting. I like really boring things to be honest…” Seonghwa was already so interested in you he’d probably think it was cool if you said you collected sponges. “Umm… well, I like watching documentaries mostly ones about history and even the nature ones… like the ones about cute pandas and tigers. I also have a record player and I collect a bunch of vinyls because I like the aesthetic… Umm- I also study a lot about film making even though I really have no interest in actually ever doing it… S-sorry, I’m just rambling now.” Seonghwa thought you were literally the cutest. He knew you for maybe 30 minutes max and he already wanted to give you the whole world. You honestly looked kinda intimidating to him because of how you looked, like your makeup and the outfit you were wearing, but when you talked you sounded so soft and he wanted to cuddle you. “No, it’s okay,” he was looking at you with the cutest smile and honestly you were whipped and you didn’t even know him. “I think it’s cute, you’re cute.” You were blushing hard. It was obvious to the both of you. After a few seconds of just kinda staring at each other you hear your name being called. “Hey babe- say hi to Mr and Mrs Park, they’re Seonghwa’s parents.” Your mom calls to you from a few chairs down. You look to where she’s at and you see people who resemble Seonghwa so you assume they’re his parents. You greet them politely as they do the same. You look to Seonghwa and his cheeks are dusted pink from embarrassment. “Wow~ you’re so much more beautiful in person from the pictures your mom has shown me.” You thank her as she’s giving you more compliments, “you know… you and Seonghwa would make a cute couple, he’s only two years older than you. And he’s been single for quite some time now.” She winks at you and your mom laughs next to her. Poor Seonghwa looks like he’s about to die of embarrassment, his head in his hands and you can see how red his ears are, “you know Mrs. Park, I might just take up on that offer.” You wink back at her and she giggles turning to your mom as they have a little moment. You see Seonghwa peak out of his hands and look at you with wide eyes. Once again he was interrupted by the waiter starting to bring the food to our table. After you get your food you turn to Seonghwa and joke, “look, I’m a really messy eater so please don’t feel the need to see me spill all my food on myself.” He looks between you and your food, “hmm… tempting offer, but I’d rather watch,” you offer a scowl but smile right afterwards. You pick up a ravioli with your fork and you can feel Seonghwa watching you. You awkwardly turn with the food halfway in your mouth, Seonghwa laughs but turns so you can eat peacefully. You two eat in a comfortable silence for a while, “want a bite?” You offer with a ravioli on your fork. He nods and opens his mouth for you to feed him. You put a hand under the fork so you would spill anything and stain his pants, “swoosh! swoosh! swoosh!” You attempt to make the best airplane noises you could while bringing the fork to his mouth. You both start laughing as the ravioli enters his mouth. Seonghwa covers his face as his heart explodes in his chest by how cute you are. He nods in approval as he swallows a mouthful of food. He then offers you a bite of the stake he got. In acceptance you open your mouth and Seonghwa does a similar thing to you but makes cute “boing” noises as he feeds you the steak. You’re attempting to chew the steak with a huge smile on your face. You throw him a thumbs up in approval of his steak. You both fall into comfortable conversation about your life, school, and random things like what your favourite nature documentary is. In a span of around 2 hours you developed the biggest crush on Seonghwa and you don’t know what to do with yourself. You know that probably after this you’re probably never going to talk to Seonghwa again unless your parents decided to play Cupid. You know the dinner is almost over as you can see people starting to finish their dessert and for once you’re wishing it would last longer. You and Seonghwa were sharing a piece of chocolate cake and your mom decided it would be the perfect time to ruin the little moment you two were having. “Come on lovebird, we’re leaving.” You sighed disappointingly as you gave Seonghwa a smile and started to stand up. “Y-you know, Mrs. Y/LN, I drove here by myself and if it isn’t a problem I could take Y/N home sometime later?” You bit your lip trying to hide the smile that was threatening to take over your face. Your mother looked between you and Seonghwa then to your father who honestly just looked like he wanted to leave already. “Is that alright with you y/n?” Your mother asked and you nodded comically sitting back down, “y-yeah it’s fine.” You nodded blushing with a smile on your face. “Alright then, you’re an adult so it’s up to you what time you come home but don’t forget where the key is because I’m not going to open the door for you.” You laughed and nodded as your parents turned to walk out of the restaurant. “We can leave in a minute and go somewhere else, maybe walk around a little bit.” You agreed, 100x more nervous now you know you two were going to be alone. After you both finished your shared dessert Seonghwa told his parents you two were going to leave. You said your goodbyes to his parents and his mom once again winked at you. You grabbed your bag, double checking your keys were in there, and you and Seonghwa walked out of the restaurant. “I know you’re wearing heels, but there’s this really cute park about a block away we could walk to, only if you can if not… I can carry you.” He said smirking. “N-no it’s okay- we- we can walk.” You checked the time, only 9:13, and you made a mental note to not be home past 1am. Seonghwa walked Closely beside you, hands brushing every once in a while. Your feet were lowkey starting to cramp up but you tried your best to ignore it as Seonghwa grabbed your hand to hold it in his. You turned to look at him, he was really good looking. The street lighting were giving him a golden glow along with the coloured store lights that illuminated his face with splashed colours of red, blue, and purple. You felt him pull you closer to him by his side, “careful love, you’re gonna run into stuff if you’re not paying attention to where you’re going.” You snapped your head back to looking forward. You suddenly get a small surge of confidence and you riskily say, “sorry oppa, you’re just too good looking.” You feel his grip on your hand tighten slightly as he chuckles, “L-Look come on love, there’s the swings. Go sit on one and I’ll push you, okay?” You look up and see the park in view. You comply and go towards the swings to sit on one. You feel his hands on your back starting to push you softly on the swing. He was pushing you on the swing when he started to tell you how you interest him, “I don’t really know what it is or why I’m so interested in you,” you don’t really know if that’s a compliment or not but you decide it most likely is and you keep your shut. “But you do, and I understand we’ve known each other for like what? 3 maybe 4 hours now? But yeah I swear I’m not ever sappy like this but you’re honestly the cutest person I’ve ever met and you make my heart wanna explode by your cuteness. But yeah, let me just- stop now because I’m gonna creep you out if I keep going, but I’d really like to take you out on a proper date… if that’s okay with you?” You’re still being pushed in the swing so you can’t really turn to look at him but you agree to the future date you are going to take. This is just the beginning of the long ass journey of you and Seonghwa. And for the first time in 4 years you’re actually glad you went to your mother's company Christmas dinner.

_______________________________________________________
Ch 5 .:Not According to Plan:.
The next day you found yourselves outside the Hawkins community pool after the kids, aside from Max, begged you to drive them there.
“You're lucky I'm taking you anywhere after you spied on me,” you said, hands on your hips.
“I wouldn't exactly call it 'spying',” Lucas said.
“You were staring at us from the bushes,” you deadpanned.
“Fair enough,” Dustin said.
“Listen, I don't know what you guys thought that was, but Steve and I were just hanging out and I don't want to hear you guys spreading rumors around, okay?” you sighed.
“Sorry, (Y/n),” Will said.
“It's alright,” you said, “Just don't go sneaking around in the fake plants at the mall again, someone might call Hopper.”
Everyone got their swimsuits from the trunk and ran to the changing rooms, eager to jump in the pool and cool off a bit.
You locked up your car, tying your swimsuit cover around your waist. You were lucky this place had life guards, at least; you wouldn't have to keep track of everyone all the time. As you looked up to the guard seat, however, you began to think maybe you weren't so lucky.
“You've got to be kidding me,” you said to yourself. Now you understood why Max was less than enthusiastic to come here.
“Of course you would work here,” you said, walking up to Billy.
“Just couldn't get enough of me, hm?” He grinned, stepping down from his perch.
“Don't flatter yourself, hotshot,” you said, elbowing him in the ribs.
The razor sharp glares you were receiving from the middle aged women around you were kind of hard to ignore. Moms everywhere were wishing you would drown as Billy's attention shifted solely to you.
“I see you're popular with the PTSA,” you said, leaning back against the ladder.
“You could say that,” Billy chuckled, “I don't mind. Boss gives me extra shifts because I bring in more customers.”
“I wonder why,” you said, rolling your eyes, “Have you ever considered putting on a shirt?”
“People seem to like me better without one,” Billy said, eyeing you.
Your throat suddenly felt dry as his eyes traveled down your body, leaving shivers in their wake. You bit your lip, trying to clear your mind, an action that Billy's eyes followed. You took a small step back, and the energy seemed to disperse.
'Don't fucking do this,' you thought to yourself, 'You know how he is, you're just gonna get your heart broken again.'
Billy seemed to sense the shift in the air too, clearing his throat a bit.
“Where's your boyfriend?” he asked as a joke, but you could have sworn his tone turned a little bitter despite the unwavering kilowatt smile on his face.
“Boyfriend?” your eyebrows shot up as you looked at him.
“King Steve,” he said, making air quotations with his hands.
You felt a hot blush creep onto your cheeks, hoping you could pass it off and blame it on the sun.
“He’s not my boyfriend,” you said.
Billy scoffed at that.
“Come on, with the way he looks at you? I bet he wishes he was.”
“And you don’t?” you smirked.
Billy looked at you, surprised, before chuckling and letting out a low whistle.
“Bold today, aren’t we?” he said, leaning against the life guard post and giving you a full view of his chiseled chest, “I must be rubbing off on you.”
“Yeah, well you’re a terrible influence,” You laughed.
While you and Billy talked Max looked over to you guys, watching. A small crease formed in her brow as she saw Billy smile at you, his laugh ringing out through the pool. How long had it been since she saw him smile? Really smile. She couldn't recall any time in the last few years. Maybe in California when they were younger? As Max watched you she couldn't help but think this was the calmest she'd seen her stepbrother in a long, long time.
__________________________________________________________
As soon as you got home you shrugged off your jacket and jumped onto your bed, sighing as you sank into the plush mattress. It had been an exhausting day making sure the kids didn't get themselves killed. After the pool you drove them to get something to eat, the group just as loud and rowdy as usual. You were lucky the restaurant owner didn't kick you out.
You reached over the mattress, flipping through the vinyls next to your bed. You smiled as you looked over your collection- Prince, Guns N' Roses, Bowie, Van Halen, Bon Jovi, Def Leppard, and anything else you could think of. You grinned as you picked one out, setting it carefully down on your record player. You leaned back as Ride the Lightning started playing, closing your eyes to focus on the guitar riffs.
Music was your happy place, pretty much everyone who knew you knew that. Every year for your birthday you'd get a new record from your brother, and some of your favorite memories from when you were younger were at the concerts your dad took you too. Music was always something that got you through tough times.
You were pulled out of your thoughts fairly abruptly as you heard pounding against your window. You pulled the needle off your record player as you turned to face the wall, covered mostly by your curtains. At first you thought it was just the nearby branches scraping against the glass, but fear crept up your spine as your window began to slowly slide open, the night breeze coming into your room. You wanted to scream, and you knew you should, but no sound came out of your mouth. Your only instinct was to reach for the switch blade in your bedside drawer, your hands shaking.
In the darkness a figure emerged from the window frame, one leg coming into your room followed by the other, and you froze as it revealed itself as. . .
“Are you fucking kidding me?!”
Billy jumped at your sudden outburst, covering his ears.
“You scared the shit out of me,” his eyes widened as he saw the knife in your hand, “Hey, put that down, would you?”
“I scared the shit out of you?” you said incredulously, “You're the one who just broke into my house!”
“Hey, quiet down, aren't your parents sleeping?”
You turned to him with a look that could cut glass.
“First of all, this is my house, Hargrove, so don't tell me to quiet down. Second, my dad's working late tonight and my brother can sleep through Armageddon like a log, so don't you worry about it.”
Billy just stared at you, not saying anything.
“What?” you seethed, practically feeling your blood vessels about to pop.
“Nothing, you're just hot when you're mad.”
“I can't fucking believe this,” you groaned. He laughed at your reaction. You closed your bedroom door with a huff and turned to Billy, less than impressed.
“How the hell did you even find my house?” you asked irritably.
“You can hear the music from the other side of town,” he said with a smirk, “There's not a lot of other people who listen to Metallica around here, you know.”
“And you just assumed it was me?” you scoffed, “Seriously, this house could've belonged to some middle aged dad with a gun for all you knew.”
“Well then this conversation would be very different,” he chuckled, making himself at home and sitting on your bed.
You huffed at his antics, taking a seat at your vanity chair.
“Nice room,” he said, looking around.
“Thanks,” you said, still weirded out at this whole situation. You were alone in your room with Billy Hargrove- This was a recipe for a world of relapsing bad choices. As he admired your room you couldn't help but notice how normal he acted after literally breaking and entering. You couldn't even imagine the number of window locks he'd picked for a quick hook up, and you swallowed hard as you mentally prepared yourself to kick his ass out the second floor where he came from if he tried anything.
Billy's eyes scanned over the posters on your wall, most of them were musicians or your favorite horror movies. There was also a bulletin board by your desk plastered with tickets from various concerts. He rose a brow as he spotted something in the corner of your room.
“You play?” he asked, walking over to your electric guitar.
“Yeah,” you said, “I'm not as good as my brother, he's in an actual band and shit, but my mom taught me.”
You reclaimed your seat on your own bed as he slipped the strap over his head and started playing softly. Without the amp hooked up you could just barely hear the notes as his fingers moved across the fret board.
'Damn it, (Y/n), don't think about how hot he looks playing that,' you said to yourself.
As he played Billy noticed a few marks on the body of the guitar and he turned it on its side to get a better look. His eyes widened as he saw it was an autograph. The writing was scrawled out in a mess of stylized letters, but the name was unmistakable.
“Mick Mars?” he said, sitting back on your bed and turning to you, “How the hell did you get him to sign this?”
“My dad grew up in LA,” you said, “Mars was with the guys opening for my dad's band at the time. When Crue made it big they met up when they were touring in New York and my dad had him sign his guitar. He kept it all this time and gave it to me when I turned sixteen.”
“That's fucking awesome,” Billy said, an excited twinkle in his eyes, “I got to see the first show they ever did at the Starwood.”
“No way,” you said, “They let you in?”
“Nope,” he grinned, “A friend sneaked me inside. It was fucking crazy. Tommy's kit practically fell apart before they even started and before I knew it there was an all out fist fight. Sixx jumped off the stage and slammed his bass into this guy's neck and security had to break it up. But they kicked ass once they got started. I remember when I was leaving the bouncer caught me because I was clearly under eighteen and he chased me down the street.”
“That is crazy,” you laughed, him joining you. Silence took over you two momentarily, but it was a comfortable silence. You looked over to him, your fingers playing with the hem of your shirt as you spoke.
“Do you miss it?” you asked quietly.
“What?” he asked.
“California,” you said, “I've only ever been once when we took a road trip to Disneyland, but I know that's not all there is to it. What was it like?”
You sort of regretted asking when you saw the far off look in his eyes, but it disappeared as soon as it came.
“Better than this shit hole,” he said, “I miss the beach, I guess.”
“Do you surf or something?” you asked.
“Yeah,” he said, kind of surprised, “How'd you know?”
“The hair,” you joked.
He scoffed, but the smile on his face defied his action of trying to shove you off the bed.
“Hey, this is my property,” you said, swatting his arms away, “If anyone's getting thrown off it's you.”
As much as you didn't want to admit it, you were actually enjoying the company of Hawkin's biggest asshole.
As your mock wrestling match died down the room slowly began to fill with the same energy you had felt at the pool, and from the way Billy was looking at you he could feel it too. You couldn't believe he hadn't tried anything yet; he had you alone in your bedroom and your dad wasn't home. You figured he'd make a pass at you right away, but his actions so far really did seem like he just wanted to talk to you tonight.
You pretended not be be disappointed that he hadn't, and you also pretended not to notice the way his eyes drifted down to your lips. You were a mere few centimeters away from each other now, some invisible force pulling you closer together.
To your surprise it was Billy who pulled away, clearing his throat.
“Listen, I should bounce,” he said, getting up from your bed and leaving you shocked, “I'll bother you more tomorrow at school, yeah?”
You stared at his back as he went to open the window again, your head spinning. As loud as the voice of caution in your head was, there was something about this situation and this stupid asshole in front of you that made you say ‘fuck it.’
Before he got his legs through the window frame you turned him around by his shoulders and pulled him into a heated kiss. It was as if all the tension between you two that had been building since you first spoke had just been acknowledged, and damn if it didn't feel good.
As you pulled away, the possibility of that whole exit act being a ploy to get you to make the first move crossed your mind, but the Californian was visibly surprised.
For the first time in his life Billy Hargrove was speechless.
Well, almost.
“I thought you said 'no thanks,'” he chuckled breathlessly.
“Shut the hell up before I change my mind,” you said, pulling him back in for another kiss by the collar of his leather jacket.
Things heated up quickly, but it always seemed like that when it came to Billy Hargrove. He shrugged his jacket off with ease, not breaking your kiss. You bit his lower lip slightly and he let out a low growl, his fingers pulling you forward by your belt. Your arms snaked around his neck as you deepened the kiss, and his hands wandered down to your waist.
You started unbuttoning the remaining half of his shirt and he seemed hesitant for a moment before sliding it off his shoulders.
Maybe you wouldn't notice.
You froze as his chest was fully exposed to you. Even in the dark you could see the angry bruises that littered his torso. He winced as you ran your hand over them gently, and you pulled your hand away.
“Billy-”
“It's fine,” he said quickly.
“It's clearly not fine,” you countered.
“Well it's none of your business,” he said, his voice wavering.
There was no real threat behind his words, if anything it sounded like a cry for help, and your chest tightened. A thought crossed your mind just then: why was Billy out of the house on the wrong side of town in the first place? There were no parties happening tonight, and it wasn't as if there were clubs in Hawkins. He left his house for a reason.
“Did your dad do this?” you asked quietly.
His head snapped up to look at you, and for a moment you were scared of what you saw in his eyes.
“I'm sorry,” you said, “When I dropped Max off that one day I heard him yelling and. . . I don't know, I shouldn't have-”
You were cut off sharply by Billy's lips crashing into yours, his actions hungry and more forceful than before. He pulled back just enough to look into your eyes, his hot breath fanning across your neck.
“You fucking tell anyone about this-”
“I won't,” you said, chest heaving, your hands gripping onto his bare shoulders, “I wouldn't do that to you.” Your heart was pounding out of your chest as you chose your next words carefully. You didn't realize until now just how broken he was.
“It's gonna be okay.”
He swallowed hard at your words, gritting his teeth. You tried to steady your shaking hands as you cupped his cheeks, kissing him softly. He kissed you back like a man starved. His grip on you was like a vice, as if he was afraid you would disappear at any moment. His hands weaved through your hair as you moved to straddle his hips, pressing your foreheads together.
“God, you're fucking killing me,” he groaned.
Your breath caught in the back of your throat as his lips latched onto your neck, feeling heat start to pool in your stomach.
“Are you sure about this?” he asked.
“Don't pretend to be a gentleman all of a sudden, Hargrove,” you smirked.
Just before you could pull him back in, you heard the sound of your front door closing and you both froze.
“Shit,” you said in unison.
You scrambled off him hurriedly, hearing the stairs creak as the footsteps got louder. Billy didn't bother with his shirt, slinging his jacket on before practically diving out the window and pressing his body against the outside wall so he couldn't be seen.
You rushed under the covers just as your door creaked open.
“You still awake in here?” your dad asked.
“Well now I am,” you groaned, pretending to rub the sleep from your eyes.
“Sorry, kiddo,” your dad laughed, “Just making sure you didn't die.”
“Goodnight, dad,” you said, smiling as you rolled your eyes.
“Goodnight,” he smiled back, shutting the door gently.
When you heard the door to his office shut you heaved an audible sigh of relief.
“That was fucking close,” Billy said, poking his head in through the window.
“I know,” you said.
“Well, that's one way to kill the mood,” he sighed, running a hand through his hair.
“Sorry,” you said, “He's not going to sleep for a good few hours, so. . .”
His hand lifted your chin up and you saw that stupid shit eating grin of his plastered onto his face.
“Don't worry, I'm sure we can pick up where we left off real soon,” he said, planting one more kiss on your lips. “Don’t miss me too much, princess.”
And with that, he slid down the roof of your house, hanging off the edge for a moment before dropping down and landing perfectly on his feet.
He shot you a smirk over his shoulder as he hopped into his Camaro, tossing his shirt onto the passenger seat. You fell back onto your bed as the roar of his engine grew quieter and quieter until only the sound of the wind and the cicadas could be heard.
Your heart was still beating stupidly fast, and you couldn't help the giddy, breathless chuckle that left you. You just did the exact thing you promised yourself you'd never do again. Things certainly didn’t go according to plan, but it felt so good that you didn't even care.
As sleep slowly claimed you the last thing you saw was the hungry look Billy gave you, the feeling of his lips still lingering on yours.

I was tagged by @lazingonsunday and @shes-outta-sight to do one of the long tag, get to know them, type of things. Which I absolutely love by the way. I don’t talk about myself much.
What was the last thing you read?
Well I was editing the latest chapter of my fic of that counts? If not some random josh one shot a couple hours ago lol.
Favorite Movie?
Man it’s ever revolving. It was Django Unchained for a long ass time, but now I think it’s Baby Driver.
Favorite Book?
Misery by Stephen King. I read it years ago and I have a lot of good memories tied to it. Me and my friend became closer through his works and this was the first one I read. It’ll stay close in my heart.
Dream Date?
It’s one I’ve been on before but just Vinyl Shopping. It’s simple and easy but music in a relationship is important to me. I gotta make sure they have good picks. But there is something so soft about it all.
Do you have a crush?
Sadly no. But I’m fully in Joshes lane rn if that means anything?
What are your hobbies?
Oof okay. I mostly draw like all hours of the day. But I very actively keep up with guitar and bass. I write as well. I make videos for my friends. I collect old and beat up vinyls. Lot of art stuff
Favorite time of day?
Night time. Like from hours 10-3. That’s my true alone time and it’s something I cherish and look forward to everyday.
If you could look like anything, what would you like to look like?
I don’t wish to change anything about my body. I think I’d be silly to. But man I wish I could actually afford clothes I’d like to wear. Real bellbottoms you know? I want that vintage shit.
Are you romantic?
In a secure relationship yes. I show too much emotion too fast in the beginning. But boy oh boy when I get romantic. I get very touchy feely. Man date ideas. Lot of carefully curated playlists.
Favorite type of weather?
That time in like August/September when I can wear jeans and maybe a light jacket. But it’s still warm, you know?
What do you like talking about?
Music. I talk about it all day long. The foundation behind it. The artist. I could discuss guitars and instruments with people all damn day. I just. I love everything about it. But also GVF is my hyperfixation rn and my friend is ready to shoot my head off if I speak another word about Jakes guitar playing.
What are your turn ons?
Ngl I’m akin to a boy with long hair. It’s my vice. I’ve only dated long haired musicians. But I just want someone who radiates some kind of light you know? I’ve seen too much darkness. I want someone genuine and real. Is it too much to ask for a positive person?
What are your turn offs?
I’ve dealt with a lot in my past. Basically anything that’s negative. Ignorance mostly. I don’t want someone who refuses to learn. It’s stupid. I just want honesty and someone with an open mind. Anything else is a no go.
If you got a tattoo what would it be and where would you get it?
Okay so. I really want tattoos. I designed something about a year ago I want really badly but it’s so expensive. Thinking rationally. Right now I’d really like some line art of bust. Idk what tho.
Do you have any pets?
3! 2 dogs, Ruby and Nellie, both too six year old mutts. Nellie is the weirdest god damn dog I’ve ever had. And ruby is basically a fox dog. And then there is Friday my cat. He can be a bitch boy but he’s a sweet boy who’s just being a cat. (I also have ten plants but most people don’t consider them pets)
Dream Job?
I’m still searching for that. Recently my heads been floating towards playing live shows as a guitar or bass player. But I’m no where near the point of even considering. I’m pretty shitty. But how Cool would it be to play that violin bow with my guitar on stage?
Dream place to live?
Not considering any potential jobs. I just want to live in a big log cabin somewhere on the outskirts of a town. Out in the wilderness and free to just live.
Dream vacation?
I’ve never been to Europe. I’d love to just road trip around in a van honestly. But before that visit my great grandfather grave in Scotland. He was a kings hand and did a lot back in the day. I’d be cool to see. But then I’d fuck around in Europe.
Do you have any piercings?
I’ve got my nose and ears pierced. I’m pretty happy with that
If you had kids what would you name them?
Man I don’t even want to think about that.
What are your best traits?
I’m a great listener. I’m extremely compassionate. Will do anything to help friends. And I feel like my music taste isn’t half bad.
Worst traits?
The compassionate thing tends to bite me in the ass. I’ve got a lot of emotions. I also have 20 things I want to do all at once all the time. I loose sleep because of it. There is more but I’d go on too long.
Worst fear?
Weirdly enough any type of natural disaster. When I was way too young I watched “The Impossible” and then shortly after learned about techtonic plates and I never forgotten about it or where they are.
What do you want to eat right now?
Brownies. And a fucking burrito.
Best vacation you’ve been on?
I went on a road trip to Chicago recently and I just makes so many good memories. I saw ninja sex party’s 10th anniversary, which was fantastic. But I got to visit a friend all weekend. But my favorite part was the ride back. The whole time we just talked but also sang to old 50s songs and just had this moment of unity. I still think about it
Favorite City?
I haven’t been to too many places yet so I’m gonna go with my hometown, Nashville. If you look past all the tourists. It’s got a very rich musical history and in certain places you just feel it. I loved living there and it made me who I was.
Favorite social media platform?
Tumblr. It’s really the only one I ever check anymore. Plus I’ve made some great friends on here.
Favorite article of clothing?
My fucking bellbottoms. I wear them whenever I can. They give me so much confidence.
Do you play any sports?
Fuck no. I have no coordination whatsoever.
Favorite meal of the day?
Lunch. You have a lot more options. Plus I just like the vibe
What are you excited for?
Starting the tenth I have a lot of good things coming my way. In that week I get to finally end this semester, the new Harry styles album releases, I get a new bass, and I get to see fucking Greta Van Fleet. None of you know how excited I am for that. Pit tickets. Jesus it’ll be good.
Not excited for?
Finals. And an um.. upcoming funeral.
When was the last time you cried?
I honestly can’t remeber and that really scares me.
Dream house?
I basically answered this earlier but gimme that big ass log cabin.
Something you hate about this world?
Don’t get my started. I hate that everyone hates themselves all the time when they have no reason to. I hate that 8 people have most of the worlds money and are doing nothing to help global warming. I hate the man that’s in power and what he’s helped cause. I hate everyone who refuses to accept literally any fact. I hate that my future is bleak because of some old ass white men.
Something you love about this world?
I love the light that radiates off of certain people. I love that our generation has hope and that some people are actually trying to make change. I love the raw creativity I see in others and I love that we are bringing back the resurgence of peace and love.
What scents do you like?
Old records and books. Its the simple pleasures.
What kind of sleeper are you?
Typically heavy but sometimes I Sleep so little it feels like I got nothing at all.
Cat or dog person?
Don’t make me pick! I grew up with both, and very partial to both.
How long would you survive in a zombie Apocolypse?
I wish I could tell you. I’d like to think I’d live awhile but I would probably be the ones who look like they have hope and then accidentally get taken out.
Are you trusting?
I used to be. I realized recently how thick my walls really are.
What fictional character do you identify with?
Sorry to be boring but nothing is coming to mind. But then again I never felt akin to anyone really?
What labels do you commonly get?
In high school I was called “the quiet one” if that tells you anything.
What song would be your life anthem?
Sunshine on my shoulders by John Denver is the only one coming to mind. I think I just want the feeling it gives me to be what I feel all the time.
What issues are you dealing with right now?
Two friends in the last month Um. Took their own lives. One being an old friend. I’ve never dealt with death. My brain doesn’t know how to handle it. I also think I might have ADD. But. That’s the tip of the iceberg rn
How can someone win you over?
Typically I’m drawn to people who are the loudest in the room. I like that their confident and can speak their minds but what wins me over about them is when they really open up. When I learn about the real then rather than the face that they put on. Most of the time it goes that way.
What’s something people don’t know about you?
I’m making a short film with some friends who go to Columbia. Should be out soonish.

2018 Game of the Year Top Ten List I guess
2018 has been an interminable mire of exhausting miasma and quite frankly I feel like it has been longer than the entire stretch of 2010-2015 combined. I also didn't play many games released this year because, like last year, I'm still poor. I'll see what I can dig up.
10. Sunset Overdrive PC edition: It's a fun open world game by insomniac. The PC Port is actually balls but like. It's a good game with a unique emphasis on how you traverse the game world, where you can grind and bounce on just about anything and indeed to do so is the only way to not get totally chewed up by the hordes of mutants and scavengers and robots you have to fight. There's also some pretty fun and out there weapons to use, like a gun that shoots vinyl records or one that deploys little auto-turrets kept aloft with propellers or one that shoots out a bowling ball at terminal velocity. The base game didn't actually come out this year (I dont... think it did...?) but it was an XBone exclusive so I didn't play it then. It's got some weird problems with narrative tone and some kind of out of the blue racism but the M rated Nickolodeon toy commercial aesthetic is charming in a weird way. I guess.
9. The Forest: I think this got an official release this year? I don't know I can't fucking keep track. Speaking of a game with weird problems with racism, if you can look past the garbage "main quest" and really deeply uncomfortable racial politics where you murder and steal from cannibal mutants, The Forest is probably the best cool treefort building simulator I've ever played. This game has a love affair with lumber and I respect that. Shouldn't you be looking for Timmy, you ask me? Shouldn't you be shutting the fuck up before I put this airplane axe in your skullmeats? Gazebos are nice. I guess.
8. Spyro: reignited trilogy: haven't actually played this yet but let's be real the spyro games were fucking dope back in the day and giving them an HD coat of paint and packaging them all together is a real standup thing for insomniac to do in between slinging webs and making questionable pc ports. Also its like Dark Souls so it has to be good, right? Everything old is new again. I guess.
7. Super Smash Bros. Ultimate: haven't played this one either but like. I know that I am a smash-enjoyer. I even liked Brawl. This is the biggest, smashiest one yet and it's also on the switch which means it could also be portable if I decided I never wanted to leave my bed again. I'm probably going to find some money to get it soon. Should be fun. I guess.
6. The Quiet Man: look no game that is THIS hysterical can be all bad alright? Didn't play it. Won't play it. It's awful. But it's so fucking funny like oh my god. Still better than Fallout 76. I guess.
5. Dark Souls Remastered: was this even a good remaster? I don't fucking know. It's Dark Souls. It's better than 90% of released games by default. I miss Solaire of Astora. I guess there's Shadows Die Twice to look forward to. I guess.
4. Subnautica: I wrote a lot about this actually. Subnautica is great. Just fantastic. A wonderful, visually stunning (mostly) (when it works) journey under an alien ocean to unravel an ancient mystery behind a deadly plague. Building seabases is so much fun (when it doesn't hard crash your computer) and the peaceful playstyle you adopt where you really only kill things for food until you can grow your own, much more efficient produce is a welcome change of pace from everything else. Leviathans are scary, especially now that your cyclops is mortal and not indestructible. This game actually Came Out this year so it deserves to be on the spot. I guess.
3. Dragon Ball Fighterz: Honestly I'm hell trash garbage at fighting games that aren't smash but this was a very well put together, visually impressive as all hell fast paced tag fighter where you can have 3 gokus on the same team fight 3 other gokus on the same team. Goku density alone makes this game worth recommending. The eSports scene that has popped up around it is fun too. I guess.
2. Dead Cells: Another game that gets to be on the list by virtue of it actually coming out this year. Wait, was this on last year's list? Let me check. Ok good it wasn't. Early access is a fucking trip. It's fun, stylish, challenging, has a great deal of variety in ways to play, might have erased my entire save because it became obsolete and I'm definitely not bitter, and it has that classic rogue-lite replay value to give you some bang for your buck. There was that one review plagiarism scandal. I guess.
1. Monster Hunter World: If you really want to know what I think of this game my previous piece on it is a good place to start. In addition to everything said there, MHW is just a fun game. The loop is satisfying and, later on, quite challenging. The combat system takes some genuine getting used to and some monsters like Nergigante actually literally cheat but for the most part the game's unique fighting style, spread across several unique weapon types, is rewarding to learn because it demands some effort be put into it and the dividends of fighting well are very cool, like just knocking a flying monster on its ass with a single mighty swing of the hammer. When a game is hard in any capacity games journalists get dollar signs in their eyes and start drooling uncontrollably because they can immediately declare that Farm Sim 2020 is the next Bloodborne because they somehow managed to roll their tractor into a ditch, but MHW is actually quite similar in style and execution to deliberate Souls combat, but the comparison is made in reverse. Dark Souls is quite similar to Monster Hunter, the first game of which was popular and a couple of years old before Demon's Souls was even a twinkle in Miyazaki's eye. There's a lot of parallels between fighting a big ol' rathalos in monhun and going for the toes against a dragon in Dark Souls, but I think MHW actually does that kind of fight better.  There are a lot of modern conveniences present in MHW that are a godsend to newer players, making the game pretty easy to get into if you're willing to try. It was my favorite game of the year that actually came out in 2018. I kind of wanted to put Warframe in this list but it's been out of early access for years now. I guess.
There were a lot of games this year that I wanted to play, but couldn't. I don't think 2018 was a weak year for video games. It wasn't as strong as 2017 but it had some hits, I just couldn't afford to play them all. Maybe next year I'll be able to give a better list. I think that the whole industry is in for some hard choices and major restructuring of how things get done and how they look at the end result. Stocks continue to trend downward - not just for Bethesda but for most mainstream, prominent AAA developers like EA and Take2. Given the well documented volatility of "The Shareholders", I imagine that they would be most displeased by downward trends even if they were still making a modest profit.
The situation has been likened to an economic bubble ripe for bursting. Games as a cultural institution have come a long way since the catastrophic days of Atari's warehouses of unsold copies of E.T., and I don't believe that we're in any danger of a complete collapse of the institution, but the fact absolutely remains That Something's Gotta Give. The increasingly predatory practices that game developers put in place as they pathologically attempt to Make Every Money Ever are intrinsically unsustainable. People are willing to forgive and overlook the now ubiquitous microtransaction if a game is good enough to overlook it, or if it's the game's only real way of actually making money. Warframe's microtransactions, for instance, are reasonably priced, platinum is often heavily discounted as a login bonus, and you can make large amounts of it without ever spending money thanks to the game's surprisingly robust trading economy. So. Yeah. They get a pass. Warframe is also good on its own merits, despite being free to play. They also listen to their community about pricing. Go check out Warframe. It's free. It's free!!! Warframe is my unofficial top spot.
Sorry I got a little bit distracted. So there's only really two instances where people will tolerate microtransactions and lootboxes in the contemporary sense: either a game is good enough and polished enough and the lootboxes are unobtrusive enough that you can just sort of shrug your shoulders and say "it sucks but what are you gonna do" or it genuinely relies on those microtransactions to support itself. When these tenets are violated, people WILL get mad. People raised absolute hell about Battlefront 2's scummy monetization schemes, enough to get EA to back off. Fallout 76 is getting lambasted in no small part due to its utterly overpriced "cosmetic" shop where you pay ten real dollars to get your power armor to look blue. You can buy fullfeatured, critically acclaimed games for half that price and you already dumped $60 on this lemon of a game. Destiny 2 got into hot water for being cagey about how its exp values were calculated and how the previously free and user-friendly shaders became one-time use items you could only get from rolling the dice. The public is getting positively irate about all of this nonsense, and if Fallout 76 (and evidently battlefield V?) is any indication, we are fast approaching a breaking point where shareholder demand for profit will outpace the consumer's ability to provide it and the developer's ability to skinner box it out of us.
Of course Nintendo continues to march on to the beat of its own drum seemingly unaffected by all of this garbage. Not out of any moral superiority, I imagine. More likely it's just a consequence of that company still being in the process of being dragged kicking and screaming into the 21st century. Maybe a few years down the line when everyboy else has abandoned microtransactions Nintendo will pick them up, put a cute Mario motif on it, and we'll be back to square one. Time will tell. We're in a volatile time for games and the timebomb keeps ticking. I just hope the explosion isn't too messy. I guess.

INTERVIEW WITH RYAN WISE
Tumblr media
I have absolutely no idea where to start with this.  I have been thinking about how I would start this article for months, and now that the moment is here I still don’t know.  Not in a bad way at all, it’s just that the person I interviewed has changed the way I view the world, a lot.  There aren’t many words to describe it.  I guess I’ll start with how we met, which is also kind of hazy.  Bear with me. I was in the common area at the NYU hall I stayed at for two weeks over the summer.  I was trying to play pool when I saw two guys dressed in really cool clothes.  One had grey overalls with an orange polo shirt and yellow sweatband on.  The other one had a black tee, Comme Des Garcons sneakers, and a bandana with flames.  I guess it was the vibes they were giving off, but I somehow managed to approach them.  I learned their names were Justin Miller and Ryan Wise.  You’re probably thinking Justin Miller sounds really familiar. It’s because I interviewed him! You can read it HERE. (By the way, Justin was wearing the overalls and Ryan was wearing the bandana with flames.)  I don’t remember what we talked about, or how I even approached them, but I told them how a bunch of us jam out every night in the basement and they should come.  They did end up coming, and it was probably the best jam sesh we had.  We even ended up writing a song all together.   On my last night at NYU, I don’t really know how Ryan and I found each other, but I feel like that’s how we grew closer.  We ended up in the jam room together and he started talking about his experience at NYU and ended up showing me a song he wrote.  I fell so in love with it and I promised to share his music on here when it’s finally out.  When I went back home, I had some stupid drama going on and he was always there to listen.  In fact, he would share his problems with me too, which would become the basis for his EP.  I specifically remember talking about how NYU sick we were, and how we felt so at home there.  We felt like we belonged.  I don’t think my NYU experience would have been the same if I hadn’t met THE Ryan Wise himself.  This was honestly all over the place, but without further ado (can’t believe I just said that, OK), here is my favorite interview to date!
Give us some basic facts about yourself!
Name: Ryan Alexander Wise Born Day: 9/13/2000 Sign: Virgo Favorite Food: Rice Favorite Color: Black Base: Central Ohio Nicknames: Whatever you want, but don't call me RyRy or nigga if you ain't black.
How and when did you start making music?
I wrote my first song when I was a toddler and my dad recorded me singing it and like put music behind and it and everything. It was hella extra. I've come up with songs for as long as I can remember, but I guess the turning point was when I was 11 and I got my grandma's old iPad. I downloaded GarageBand on there and started producing and have been going ever since.
Who are some of your musical influences?
I wouldn't be doing any of this if it wasn't for Michael Jackson. When he died I looked him up to see what all the fuss was about, and was literally obsessed with his discography for 18 months straight. My current favorite artists are Kanye West, Frank Ocean, and Childish Gambino, so I'm sure they have a big influence on me. However, whatever influences my art is really what I'm listening to while I'm creating it.
What have you been listening to lately?
I've been trying to broaden my scope and get away from hip hop a little more since that's been all I’ve listened to for like 6 years now. Willow Smith and Tyler Cole came out with amazing albums this year, especially for how young they both are. Hella inspiring. Speaking of the Smith family, “SYRE” by Jaden Smith has been in rotation since its debut. “Chamber of Reflection” by Mac DeMarco, “Lone Wolf” and “Cub” by Thundercat, and “Swell” by Archy Marshall are favorites now too.
What was your inspiration for your new EP, Room & Bored?
My time at NYU this summer. I was working on a different project going into my month long stay there, but I ended up writing some new stuff while there and as a reflection of my time there when I got back. I looked at what I wrote (R&B’s three songs in particular) and realized that I had something there. I dropped everything else and started making those, because I felt an urgency to get that out there. Through the help of people at NYU, like you Aryana, I finally had enough confidence to release a body of work. NYU influenced what I wrote about, how it sounded, its title, aesthetic, everything.
Tumblr media
This is a picture I took of Ryan in the jam room on the last night.  He was performing one of the songs he wrote during his stay at NYU.  Bad pic, but high quality sentiment.
How long did it take you to write and produce R&B?
I wrote 227 in a couple minutes one day at the beginning of my stay in New York. Same with 908 but like two weeks later. 197 amassed itself over a couple of days after I got back and was eventually trimmed down from 9 minutes to 5. I then produced the bulk of it through August and kind of sat on it, making tweaks until I told myself I had to put it out and tweeted “november 1st” to hold myself to releasing it on that date. So all together a little over 3 months.
How did you think of the title, Room & Bored?
I'm still kinda iffy on the title. I like it, a lot, but not sure that it really connects with the story of the project much. It’s playing on Room and Board obviously, and I think it’s clever and fits within my aesthetic, but the EP doesn't really convey a sense of boredom. Maybe 227, since it’s about suggesting that fun should be had rather than describing the fun. I don't know. But since it was based on my experience at a college, I wanted that to be incorporated into the title. I wanted this to be a project where different people can experience it differently based on their relation to me. So if you just happen to find this on SoundCloud, you might think I'm a college student. If you know me, you probably know that I was at NYU for a part of my summer and will get that it’s a reference to that. If you were at NYU and were good friends with me, you might get more things: who the songs about, the events that inspired the songs, the room numbers’ significance, and the title plays into that.
Each song title is a number, what do those mean?
Each is a reference to a room that was significant to the circumstances that inspired the songs. 227 was my friend Anthony's room, and that's where we would hang out and party most of the time. Since that song deals with themes of not necessarily fitting in at the party, but wanting to because “she” does, I named it after the room where I felt that. 908 was another friend of mine’s room, where an interaction happened between me and someone else. To fully feel and release the emotions that were ignited as a result of that interaction, I wrote 908. I also learned that it was the room number of my other friend, on the opposite wing of the dorm, and coincidentally it applies to things that happened there too (coincidence = the universe stunting on you with Jay-Z double entendres). 197 has to do with where I live. Since I wrote it after returning home from New York and it was a reflection on my experience there, I named it after where I was at the time.
Tumblr media
What’s your dream venue to perform at?
I'd love to say like Madison Square Garden, but that seems hella overwhelming. Maybe like the Roxy, because I'd love to be in a more intimate setting with people that know my music better than I do. I’d take a ton of those over one MSG performance where 60% of the people there only know that one song that charted.
What genre would you define your music as?
I'd love to say Alternative, which to me just means the industry doesn't know what to call this, but right now I'd say hip hop or alt hip hop. I'm still very much in that state of mind. My ear is farther along than my voice, if you pick up what I'm putting down.
What was the first record or CD you bought?
I don't remember the first song or album I spent money on (it was probably trash and definitely on iTunes), but the first physical album I bought was Jay-Z’s “Black Album” on vinyl. Didn't have a record player yet. Hadn't even heard the album in full. I just saw it and impulse bought it because I felt like it. Listened to it later, and fortunately, it’s amazing.
Who would you want to open for?
Opening for Kanye would be dope but I'd probably be crying too hard to perform. Opening for Frank Ocean would be dope but I know everyone would forget about it as soon as Frank walked on stage. Maybe Kevin Abstract. Yeah, that would be dope. But opening for any of them would be a privilege and I would be so geeked to do so.
Any advice you have for young/ local/ up and coming artists?
Keep grinding. Don't let people discourage you. Yeah, not everyone gets to be a star, but you'll never be one if you let that get in your way. Don't aim for fame, aim for happiness. At least that's what I'm doing, and I hope it works out. Making connections with other, artistic peers can be very helpful. I wouldn't have R&B if it wasn't for people like Aryana and Justin (JUM The Lover) and others that I've become close to. They’ll help inspire you, make you feel at home if you're in a place where people don't tend to think like you, and will hook you up if you can't think of another verse and need a feature.
Can we expect more music from you? Is yes, when!!??!
Of course you can, but I don't want to give a date that I most likely won't keep. When it comes, it will probably be another EP, but longer this time. I'm not ready to come out with a full album yet. I don't know why. I have enough material, but need a concept or theme to tie it all together. If everything goes as planned, my next EP will be called COVER and you should look out for it.
Is there anything else you want to add?
If you've listened to R&B thank you so much. Even if you hated it, at least you tried. If you haven't, please give it a shot. The whole thing isn't even 10 minutes long. Support young artists. Retweet, reblog, repost, share, like, favorite everything by the young artists you know. Even if it’s not that great to you, it might be to someone else who’s in your sphere and wouldn't come across it otherwise. Listen to Room & Bored, or don't, it’s your prerogative, and why be racist, sexist, homophobic, or transphobic when you can just be quiet?
You can listen to Ryan’s debut EP Room&Bored HERE
Rock On,
Aryana

god what a week (warning: long post about meeting Sparks/Sparks shows)
monday was a gross, very rainy day and i got on my bus at 3:00, set to arrive in nyc at 5:15. it didn’t arrive until 6:50. as you may know i was freaking out on the bus and have never been so stressed in my LIFE, it was ridiculous. but i got off, paid way too much for an uber and literally ran into Rough Trade. i exchanged the cd i bought for vinyl (bc signed vinyl would be so much cooler wtf) and i was at the counter and i could like....see them sitting at a table on the other side of the counter and they didn’t even seem real !!?? but i got in the line that moved way too fast and the next thing i know the store associate handed my vinyl to Ron and i stepped up to them and said hello and they said hello back and Ron was signing my album and i was shaking SO MUCH and everything was a blur !! i told them how much i loved them and their music and thanked them for everything and told them that they’ve been pretty much all i’ve been listening to all year and they were really thankful. i told them i was really excited to see them live tuesday night and one of them (uhh i’m pretty sure it was Russell?! i have such bad memory 😭) was like “oh, so you live in new york?” lol, i told them i was from philadelphia and just had to take a bus there and Ron was like “oh, wow!” akdlsjf bless them. then i thanked them for the millionth and last time (they probably thought i was insane lmao) and went to the back corner of the store to freak the fuck out!!! i mainly just freaked out to Tally (lol Tally if you’re reading this, i’m sorry 😂) and paced around the store. i literally just wanted to run out of the store and just fuckin...run down the street or jump up and down i just had so much ENERGY. and that was honestly just my mood for the three days. but i ended up just looking at records, talked to a cool dude about gn’r, and then watched Ron and Russell leave from afar. i then somehow figured out how to get from Brooklyn to Penn Station via subways and went home.
my bus left for nyc at 7am the next morning, got there by 10am so i basically had a lot of time to kill. it was a somewhat long walk to the venue (maybe only because i ended up going in the wrong direction at one point) and so FUCKING hot out i was sweating so much, but i sat in Washington Square Park for a bit, stopped by the venue to check out the scene, walked a little further just to see those steps Billy Joel sat on for that album cover, and just explored for a bit before meeting some Sparks fans that were kind enough to invite me to lunch with them!  then we headed to the venue for the long wait until doors opened. once we got in i was front row front and center and i could not have been anywhere better and i was just so SO happy. their opener, Mister Goodnite (aka their second keyboard player) was really, really good! i really love his voice, he has funny lyrics, and tbh i’ve been listening to his stuff on soundcloud the past two days, i didn’t except to like him this much!! BUT then Sparks went on, and oh my god. i’d been obsessively watching videos from the european tour last month which sounded amazing but hearing it live in person was INSANE. i didn’t think it could get any better but it was a million times better. THEY SOUND SO GOOD. by the end of the first song i decided that as long as there was a bus for me to get home after, there was no way i was missing the second show. i don’t think i’ve ever screamed so much at a show before. i was tearing up for like 99% of the show. they!! were!! so!! good!! i couldn’t believe it was real. they were so close! it was insaneeeee. i know i’m repeating myself but i don’t even know what to say. i fucking love when Ron just stares off and mouths the lyrics, and Russell is just fucking adorable. i love them SO much.
took a bus back the next morning and went straight to the venue to line up.  an even longer wait (i even tried doing homework on my phone but then other people showed up and i just couldn’t lmao). but when we finally got in i was in pretty much the same exact spot as the night before!! they played the same set as the night before (oh yeah- i got a setlist the first night!!) but with Hospitality on Parade added to the encore, and Russell mentioned it was produced by Tony Visconti who may or may not have been in the audience. then during their final bows Russell went over to one side of the audience to shake hands with people and then he left that side and i put my hand out and he came over and held onto my hand for 3 or 4 seconds and i am DECEASED. highlight of my life. 😭😭😭❤️❤️❤️
then...the show was over, i said goodbye to all my new Sparks pals, sat in Penn Station and cried a bit, slept for about 3 hours before getting up for class at 8:30. i was still running on the adrenaline of...everything, and now i have a ton of work to make up (and my mom wants to visit me tomorrow wtfffff) and i’m surprised the post concert depression hasn’t hit (yet). i’m still just so happy. i love Sparks so much and this past week has just been incredible.
