cw : spoilers for the darlin’ / vampire storylines, biting / turning + unaliving

as we know, sam hasn’t bitten darlin’ yet. there hasn’t been much discussion between the two about it, at least not that we’ve heard in audios, they haven’t sat down and gone much into it; there may be a few small instances, but again, it’s nowhere near as in depth as vincent was with lovely or sam was with his turning – the latter which i’ll touch on in a minute.

someone who has mentioned it is quinn in one of his audios ( Your Mate Confronts Your Cruel Vampire Ex ) where he points out how sam hasn’t bitten darlin’ yet and there is this obvious tension surrounding it. and, obviously, most of that tension comes from the situation and the direness of it and just quinn as a person / character. but it serves as confirmation to us – the audience / listeners – that sam is still yet to bite darlin’, if at all. ( yes, i know it’s a slow burn, that’s not my point right now /lh )

now, when you look back and remember sam’s turning, it makes a lot of sense. for the unaware, spoilers coming up from here and down, so if you don’t wanna know, scurry off.

sam was turned by his then girlfriend ( or, i guess, “girlfriend” as they were more fuck buddies with one-sided love on alexis’ end ) following a car crash that nearly kills him. what makes his turning even more tragic aside from, y’know…a car crash, is it’s not something he wanted. he expresses this not only to alexis at the time, but darlin’ as well whe he’s recounting the memory to them.

nearly every other instance of someone being bitten ( by a vampire ) has been tragic and / or violent. vincent was turned by william to save his life after nearly dying from the rollercoaster crash. lovely was turned by vincent after nearly dying from an attack during the inversion. quinn and adam as whole characters with darlin’ and lovely, every bite with them ( both that we’ve experienced and heard ) has lacked real tenderness or arguably consent. again, sam was turned by alexis after nearly dying from a car crash.

even in the imperium. imp!damien is turned by imp!sam for really no reason to my knowledge, imp!huxley is turned by imp!damien for selfish means, imp!ivan is bitten by imp!baby for once again selfish means, both imp!vincent and imp!adam bite and drink from imp!lovely – and then imp!vincent later using them as a thrall which is a whole nother mess.

then there’s fred and bright eyes. though they’re sadly no longer on the channel, we do have some scraps of what happened thanks to sam in one of quinn’s audios ( Your Mate Confronts Your Cruel Vampire Ex ). fred was turned by sam after a bloody altercation with quinn, then fred turned bright eyes shortly after.

you can even pull adam and william into the mix! we don’t know how their turnings went, but we do know they both k*lled their makers. and, again, we also don’t know the reasoning behind why ( at least not that i personally can remember ), but the fact that they k*lled their makers at all…i don’t need to be the one to tell you how violent m*rder is.

off the top of my head, there are at least three instances where someone is bitten and it’s not violent or tragic, and those occur in:

( Flirty Vampire Loses Control ) after scaring off adam, vincent drinks from lovely’s wrist – this one is debatable cause…adam

( Your Flirty Vampire Boyfriend Finally Bites You ) vincent drinks from lovely’s neck and the mood is very sweet and intimate

and vincent ba’s where again he ( and i believe lovely as well ) drinks from them and the mood is again sweet and intimate.

( side note : i love how all three are vincent. )

when you compare the non-tragic bites and turning to the tragic, they make up a mere 3 out of roughly 13. it doesn’t even make up half! like…dude! no wonder sam isn’t ready to bite darlin’. even when you remove both of their individual trauma’s surrounding biting and turning, there are all these other instances.

sam was there after vincent found and saved lovely from adam; he was there with darlin’ and david during the interrogation of quinn; he was there when vincent turned lovely during the inversion. add onto all of this even more reason behind sam’s hesitance to biting given to us in Your Mate Confronts Your Cruel Ex. then, when it comes to darlin’ solely, who knows how many people they potentially saw quinn turn if not straight up k*ll.

i know a lot of people want sam to bite darlin’ ( though it may have tempered down a bit after the quinn arc ), and i’m sure it will likely happen, it’s just a matter of when. but what i feel makes it so much more not only bittersweet, but heartbreaking, is why it hasn’t happened yet – at least not narratively or in-character wise.

the trauma they both have combined and separately, the instances we’ve seen turnings and bites happen across videos, the ways it’s been described by vincent and sam. it was something big for lovely and vincent, and the same will be true for darlin’ and sam. and i hope when it happens, that it will be handled with the care and patience and respect it deserves.
