favorite type of villanous characters are the ones whose motivations boil down to

like they dont even have to have any stakes in the broader situation. they just have take pleasure in destruction

#sometimes this can be done in a very funee cartoon villain kind of way a la spike from buffy #and sometimes it can be done in a positively chilling way where this character knows for a fact that some of the effects of their chaos #will also make their life worse. but they just enjoy fucking with other people more than any privation they could personally experience #you can't sway this person with common sense because their own personal logic dictates that it doesn't apply to them #you can't sway them with emotion; your sadness/fear/anger/ineffectuality is part of the entertainment factor #can't sway 'em with threats because dodging threats is ALSO part of the whole point #this second version is the least pathetic type of character mostly because they simply do not give a shit about anything ever #any personal fears are buried or stomped out and figuring out why they do what they do won't stop them from doing it #and yet: in order to keep the relentless making-it-worse guy from being uninterestingly evil there does have to be SOME desire or need #bodily harm or lack of available victims could get you a moment of genuine terror or loneliness that sparks the audience sympathy #which you do need! just long enough for the sympathy to then be misplaced. which you also need bc this is an antagonist #the first version does very well at redemption arcs and is sort of built for them . they're almost too easy for the first cartoon version #the second version should be kept separate from redemption arcs at all costs #or you no longer have that character anymore now he's someone else #writing tag #q #god. one thing is that i know how to spot character types in writing and detail what's good about them and talk about it #but when it comes to then executing the concept? my perception of what's cool and works and my execution are MILES apart #frustrating as hell that i can identify this guy but not create him

If I have one wish for Hazbin season 2 it's please, please let Charlie go apeshit and just absolutely destroy someone.

Season 1's been teasing us with how powerful Charlie is and how much potential she has only to basically nerf her into the ground for the final battle so Lucifer could be all badass and shit.

Alastor's been allowed to go berserk so many times in season one and he's canonically weaker than the Morningstar family so can we let Charlie have the spotlight now?

Gonna be honest, I don't think any Sam ship will ever hit as hard as Sam/Ruby.

#decided to attempt to finally finish supernatural #watching 10x02 right now but i still can't help thinking how much better this all would be if ruby was still around lmao #i get she betrayed them but crowley got to stay on for sooo long #and meg sort of got a redemption arc #i feel like ruby could have been given a pretty good story if they'd tried #the demons have a pretty shit deal - especially the ones who were unjustly damned to hell #iirc meg seemed to see lucifer as a sort of savior figure for the demons - somebody who would free them from the eternal torture of hell #which ruby probably believed and didn't seem to know what the real plan was #maybe she wouldn't be on board with lucy riding sam's body into a doomed fight with michael that was preordained by an uncaring god #and with 10 more seasons of development should could have been a proper member of team free will #given the climate of the fandom in 09 i completely understand why this never happened - but imagine???#spn #ruby spn #sam x ruby #sam winchester

one of my toxic traits is that i can't stand writers as a class of people WITH THE EXCEPTION OF A FEW ONES ok some of them are also the loves of my life but. they're crucially a minority so apart from those they're all SO annoying to me. and the fact that i'm also one doesn't help. anyway if you're a writer and i don't know you personally you should die

so is the whole 'sam is a leader on this team and the new highly sought after star footballer of afc richmond' storyline ever going to get brought up again, or are the writers done caring about sam now that he isn't rebecca's love interest anymore

#this season has so many problems #chief among them is that toheeb is credited as a main cast member and he hasn't gotten shit to do in six episodes #even in 3.03 his restaurant was just a plot device in rebecca's love life #like why isn't sam getting special one on one training sessions with roy. that would actually be interesting #their relationship in s1 was so good and we've only gotten crumbs since and it genuinely saddens me #ted lasso #ted lasso spoilers #sam obisanya #i will eat my words if the next six episodes are good and do sam justice #but i doubt it #i really don't think the writers went into this season knowing what to do with anyone but ted and colin #even nate's 'redemption' arc is all over the place #it's been six episodes and we've only seen him in three!! we haven't focused on him enough!!#his eventual redemption is not going to have the emotional catharsis it could have if nate's storyline was given weight in every episode #like who gives a shit about that model and his date at a taste of athens #but that's a rant for another time
