Reminder that I was inspired by @solar-tl-27 dragon universe concept, but mine is circular and their's is more branched, (? words are hard). Pink text is canon elements changed to planets, green is things I've made up completely, the color of the underlines is what revamped school they go to.

She reached under the table and revealed her personal reserve bag of treats that she brought from her room. With a flourish, she spread the contents across the table for all to admire.

At long last.... this body-swapped saga has come to an end! It took so long to write that Canto 8 came out in the meantime, hahaha.

So many things happen in this last chapter that picking just one bit for a preview is a bit challenging. I was able to fit in all kinds of random ideas and gags that I wanted to include!

I am so, so interested in the power dynamics and hierarchy in the Proto Era (before the war and all) that I really want to know more about it. More specifically I really want to know more about interactions between the Rocky Planets and Giants or anything with them moons. This ask is pretty vague but I'm just wondering if you have any facts about your Au's Proto Era that you couldn't insert into any of your fics.

i haven't focused much on the Proto Era, but i really want to try with both Ouroboros and As the Years Go By and even make a one-shot for Pluto. Anyways. I decided to dig through a bunch of AO3 comments I can't remember answering until now, so you're getting a bunch of stuff I remembered just now!

the rankings of the smaller planets are different from the Giants. they have arabic numerals as rankings while the Giants have Roman numerals. here are their numbers:

they are all ranked based on how useful Hades thinks they are, with Jupiter dead last because of his terrible eyesight and how he cant really comprehend any basic task before. it really bit Hades in the ass, though. (last chapter of ouroboros and the entirety of aftermath redux) Phaeton is first because he's Hades's favorite.

Here are a few facts that I have no idea how to implement into fics, thus here we go:

Chrysalis was the first moon of Saturn, and she is one of the few that makes up the rings surrounding Saturn. She was everything a planet, especially a Giant could want for a moon: meek, docile and obedient. She has Chrysalis from MLP's color scheme.

Pandemonium, Mars's first moon, is almost his size. Think of Pluto and Charon. Mars felt threatened by the idea of being superimposed by his moon, so he went about demeaning him and making him seem like he is nothing special and just a moon. He was such a JERK but you already knew that

Brahma and Indra, Uranus and Gaia, were the only moon-planet relationships. They have weird philosophies when it came to justifying their relationship.

I KEEP forgetting to remember this, but: Mercury and Vulcan were not turned into favorites by anyone, Theia and Venus are Saturn's favorites due to their beauty and personality, Anthichton is Brahma's favorite because of his peacemaker personality, Phaeton is Hades's favorite because out of all the rocky planets he has the most potential and knows how to keep them in line, Tierra was Jupiter's favorite since he is always at the background, Mars was Shiva's favorite because of his eyes that can see fears and sow anger, and Tyche is Iris's favorite for being just as weird as her. Krypton and Oceanus don't see why they should find them entertaining.

Nemesis is mute and can only communicate through telepathy, because Sol tore out part of their throat so they can no longer access the Astran Realm where they often meet with other stars

Charon was created after Pluto got banished to the Kuiper Belt. Thanks to her, he kept his sanity and anger towards Jupiter in check.

Pluto was not included in most Solar meetings, as he was considered too small to make any difference in their decisions. Jupiter regards him with neutrality, but eventually knows he has potential and tried to get him to join his side to no avail. If Hades thought Jupiter was an embarrassment already, he treats Pluto as though he'd never existed.

Space chess exists. Sol plays it time to time with other stars, and sometimes even Jupiter if they're civil enough with each other.

Phobos and Deimos are, unsurprisingly, made from Pandemonium's remains. Whether or not this has effects in the current saga will be solved in due time.

Neptune slowly went insane as he keeps touching cores of moons and Giants scattered around the orbit, their memory intertwining with his and making him more confused and despondent.

Phaeton was the one who broke down the most when his potential for life was destroyed, so he went "If I'm going down, you're going down with me!" On Mars before poisoning him.

Brahma is an even bigger bitch than Shiva. At least Shiva is straightforward with what he feels, but Brahma can make you feel you're going in circles. He's the type to insult you with a smile and gossip about you behind your back.

Tierra knows Mars is in love with Theia and likes to provoke him to make him look bad. Mars knows he's an artificial bitch but no one believes him.

Anthichton and Phaeton have long standing beef with one another. No one knows why but it exists.

Planet X and Tyche CAN remember their moons' former names, and they felt when their ties to their moons are severed.

Aaaaaaaaaand good afternoon everybody, Mr. Baggins here with our Afternoon Stack of Classic Wax! Today the dial on my Wayback Machine is going all the way back to 1941, but will then be literally all over the map. We're having another installment in our series on Herb Alpert and The TJB! This time we are going to hear tunes that they made cover versions of; first by the original artist, and then by The TJB. Why, you may ask? Because their cover versions were never just straight covers! They radically re-imagined almost every cover tune they did and made unforgettable arrangements out of them. Case in point? The ancient (1941) song "Flamingo", originally sung by Herb Jeffries with The Duke Ellington orchestra, and re-imagined on the TJB's "SRO" album.

And now, from 1966, the TJB's version!

Another song that received an amazing re-imagining at the hands of Herb and the TJB was the Gene Pitney-sung theme to the movie 'A Town Without Pity". Here's the original Gene Pitney version from 1961:

Now let's hear the absolute polar opposite version of it by The TJB, which drummer Nick Ceroli provided the vocal ad-libs on, giving it the flavor of a Mexican cattle-drive!

And we've heard this next pair already, but it's another textbook example of the complete redux that the TJB gave it. We went from this lament of lost love at the beginning of the week, by the Mamas and the Papas from '66...

Herb and Crew turn it into an upbeat little ditty, complete with sleigh-bells and chimes!

And this pair is also a textbook example: The song that took Jack Jones into the limelight in 1962, Lollipops and Roses. Here's Jack's original:

And here is Herb's version, again a complete re-imagining from top to bottom, including yes, those Sleigh Bells. Fitting, since it became the song that they played as they gave out the prizes on The Newlywed Game!

And this last pair I've saved because it was the very first song by the TJB that I ever heard when I was six, and as I have said before, this was a very important song in my musical education! Here is the original version of "A Taste of Honey". It was written as a film theme for a 1960 adaptation of a British play:

And here...HERE is the TJB's magnificent re-imagining of the tune. The arrangment...the way it starts and drops off, and then those bass-drum kicks...ALL of it! It's just sheer fucking GENIUS!

There are many other examples I'd love to play for y'all, but this is all the room I have today! I have quite a few for DD (TV):

Epistaxis Anime currently working on the 8th and final chapter of Matt's nosebleed saga. now that Foggy knows his secret, how will things end up between them?

A Gentleman Caller working on chapter 2 of this one where vampire!Matt shows up at Foggy's window one night supposedly looking for romance. i've started the second of two scenes and it's been fun so far! i don't usually do much worldbuilding but i'm having fun with it here.

Out of the Darkness, Into the Limelight another one i'm working on chapter 2 for. Matt and Foggy kiss for a student film and things spiral from there. in chapter 2 we start to see the fallout of the kiss and all the mess that ensues!

Fake Breakup (working title) the premise of this one is that Foggy asks Matt to break up with him in public to gain sympathy and an extension from a professor for one of their assignments. they weren't even dating, so why does it hurt? i'm only a few hundred words into this one and am still thinking about its scope.

Saint Anthony this is a collab oneshot i'm doing with happybeans where Foggy gets kidnapped and Matt prays to St. Anthony to help him find him. it's very cracky but i'm having a lot of fun writing St. Anthony's POV.

i'm also working on a series of unrelated works where i post one for each season of the show:

Foggy Nelson, Super Sleuth! (season 1) this one is very old. i originally posted chapter 1 in 2019 and then fell off the wagon, but i'm currently rewriting the first chapter in preparation for eventually continuing it. the premise is that Foggy tries to figure out why Matt keeps showing up to work bruised and battered, and Matt has to try and thwart his sleuthing before he figures out he's DD.

S2 Karen Thinks Their Breakup Is Romantic Fuckery (working title) (season 2) i'm really excited for this one even though i haven't written a single word of it lmao. basically what the title says. when Matt and Foggy are having their friendship troubles in s2 Karen assumes the problem is due to their having feelings for each other and Foggy doesn't correct her.

To the Dregs Redux (Defenders) i wrote a ficlet ages ago where Foggy and Karen visit a witch to get Matt resurrected after Midland Circle and am planning to rewrite and continue it. probably going to go into doppelganger territory since Matt isn't actually dead

I'll Take All of My Wasted Love and Turn It into Wine in My Cup (season 3) i also haven't technically started this one yet. it's going to be angst about Foggy turning to alcohol when he still thinks Matt is dead.

now for DD (comics)!

The Advocate this is a ficlet i'm writing set in early volume 1 about Foggy trying to convince Karen to give Matt another chance before she goes to San Francisco, only for her to try to get him to realize the only reason he thinks Matt is so great is because he's in love with him himself. might be done soon???

His Wife Has Filled His House With Chintz my beloved wip. set in volume 1 after the Micah Synn stuff, Foggy tells Matt he's leaving Debbie and then they go fuck about it.

i am also doing a series for this, one fic for each comic volume:

Hearsay (volume 1) currently working on chapter 2 of this one. the outline is a bit more involved than my fics usually get so i'm excited about that! this one is about Foggy overhearing a rumor that Matt is dating Daredevil and he doesn't know how to feel about it. also there's a subplot about Becky and Foggy getting involved in a disability rights case which should be fun

Stitching Up the Seams on Every Broken Promise That Your Body Couldn't Keep (volume 2) this is another one that i haven't actually started writing. it takes place while Foggy is in witness protection, and Matt starts having sex dreams about his (presumably) dead buddy much to his horror.

Matchmaker Ben Urich (working title) (volume 3) not started. Ben finds himself temporarily reassigned to the gossip column beat as penalty for being too good of a reporter (you know how these things go). he decides to at least do something useful with his time and use his skills to get Matt and Foggy together using the column.

Cancer Arc Jealousy (working title) (volume 4) this one (unstarted) is probably going to be short. i'm thinking a little interiority from Foggy in San Francisco where he stews a little bit about the fact that Kirsten can go out in public with Matt but he's got to be in hiding.

Purple Children (working title) (volume 5) i have a tiny bit of this one written. Matt and Foggy are dating when the Purple Children wipe everyone's memory of Matt's identity. Foggy thinks he was cheating on Matt with DD the whole time and, horrified, breaks up with Matt but doesn't tell him why. angst and retroactive identity porn shenanigans.

Matt's Intimacy Issues (working title) (volume 6) not started, probably a oneshot. Matt hasn't slept with Foggy only because Foggy is the equivalent of a U-Haul lesbian and he's worried about opening up the door to having to be emotionally vulnerable.

Goldy Threatening Foggy (working title) (volume 7) not started. listen, while the Goldy thing never panned out (or at least not yet) you can't tell me there's not potential there both with him threatening Foggy to try and make Matt a better DD or something and Foggy getting a little jealous because he doesn't know what's up with Goldy but he does know that Matt has gotten increasingly weird about him.

Other fandoms:

Guesswork (The OC) working on chapter 3, or at least i should be but i need to have a hard think about where i actually want to take the fic first. Seth/Ryan where some dark things in Ryan's past weigh heavily on the chances of them working out.

The Good One (The OC) an in-progress oneshot tied to season 1 episode 3 where Ryan reflects on his relationship with his alcoholic mom.

Prequel (working title) (Matthias & Maxime) this in-progress oneshot is supposed to be a prequel about the first time Matt and Max kissed while high, as mentioned in the film. i've been having trouble with it so i have no idea when i'll finally get it out.

Cacoethes (Hannibal) need to continue with chapter 2 on this one, where Hannibal convinces Will he's got a sexual obsession with him.

So I wanted to expand the magical schools since in canon it kinda doesn't make sense, so I divided people into two categories of non-magic and magic, then each divided in two again, magically resistance and magically susceptible for non-magical; positive or negative for magical.

At first, I think they would be gender-locked but in more modern days the schools wouldn't be, just pass some type of admission exam.

Alfea, Cloudtower, Red Fountain, Malacoy are canon names. Deeplake's name is based on Cloudtower. Oskuria's name is based on Alfea. Zaltora's name is based on Malacoy. Green Scales' name is based on Red Fountain.

Alfea and Zaltora are positive magic users. Deeplake and Cloudtower are negative magic users. Malacoy and Oskuria are magically susceptible, focuses on non-magical calamities. Red Fountain and Green Scales are magically resisted, focused on magical calamities.

need custom campaign recommendations for hotline miami 2 !! looking for more serious stories that could be canon but I don't mine campaigns set in an alternate reality where everyone lives. off the top of my head here are some campaigns I've played through and enjoyed: hunter saga, hotline miami 1.5 (hoping author updates sometime), vengeance, the rooster files, wildstyle, extended cut, civil war, buried, blessed redux, the whole oneshot series. I'd prefer no romance between existing characters since I don't think it fits the theme of the game but I'll take a look regardless :))

The Archaeology of Shamanism Redux: Part 5

in which we burn animals

Chapter 13: Cremation rites and animal sacrifice in early Anglo-Saxon England, by Howard Williams

Apparently we've got some method by which we can look at the ash in an urn/cremation burial and tell what manner of creature they came from, and when we do this the answer is: Not All Human. Lots of sheep and goat in there. Also some horses, cattle, pigs, and dogs. This does not give us any information on the status of the animal pre-burial. The fellow also tries to break it down by the gender of the grave, and I will grant him that he chooses 4 genders (Male, Male?, Female?, and Female) but I know for a fact that sexing skeletons is a chancy business and I've got no clue how he's proposing to sex ashes. Doing it by burial goods requires making a lot of assumptions about how a culture did gender - never mind that we were just talking about how shamanistic cultures probably did not do a mere 2 genders - and then trying to conclude things about whether horses are a male-coded burial good is frankly circular logic. Again, I will grant him that his conclusion is "we can't make any conclusions about animals being gender-coded". I just don't think it's a very strong study, and then he gets into decorations in arguments that even he admits are weaker, in order to conclude that "animals were fundamental to the identities and memories of the communities of both the dead and the living" which. Is one of those scientific conclusions that it's good to have written in the literature so that you can cite it, but is pretty obvious generally.

Chapter 14: Neo-shamanic engagements with archaeology by Robert J. Wallis

This is probably not a topic I should discuss in my current state, but here we are.

Wallis is speaking as a neo-pagan in 2001, and arguing that we should not be dismissing neo-pagans as 'fringe' or 'eccentric'. His argument is not, to my surprise*, that neo-pagans have any sort of insight into historical cultures. I mean there's a small bit of 'these folks are basically doing experimental archaeology on themselves' but he's more interested - or perhaps just thinks he'll have more success arguing - in telling stories about site conservation.

Okay, he does get into a particular neo-pagan shaman possessed by the spirit of Odin, and I did lose a lot of respect for him when he uncritically cited sagas as historical sources. Insert rant about how sagas are historical fiction written centuries after the fact by people with no sense of rigorous study and a great deal of uh Christian fetishization of their own pagan ancestors. Anyway.

One case study he cites is about how there are, in the UK, a great deal of archaic sites and if you tried to protect them all you wouldn't ever build anything. So when they dug up a wood circle they went "that's very nice, we'll take some pictures, move it inland, and carry on". And ultimately it was the unholy row the neo-pagans put on that resulted in the preservation of this site in-situ, and the resulting tourism boost to the locals.

Which brings him to his discussion of 'extra pay' that pagans bring to shamanism - non-monetary benefits to modern shamanistic cultures and archaeologists. Which is partly the increase of attention --> increased grant money or tourism or whatever else you might get, and partly the different perspectives, especially from uh women and queer people getting into seidr.

So, those are his arguments For. I will leave you to make your own conclusions about them, as best I can, and as with every aspect of this, if you want to hear it from the horse's mouth, The Archaeology of Shamanism as edited by Neil Price remains in print for, uh, textbook money. If you want specifics my askbox is open.

*and great relief, due to my valued emotional alchemy around Steven Flowers, may he rest in dirt.
