(Get ready for a long rambly one folks)

So it is now Halloween (woop woop) and I'm all about that, but as someone who was raised by a Pagan mum I also know she celebrates it as Samhain and that it can be a good time to reflect as a season comes to an end.

AKA this is my reflection

Since I last saw this holiday a lot has changed in my life and it can be good to process things sometimes.

Academically, I've finished A-levels and proceeded to university. It's a big step and I often feel out of my depth there, but it's comforting knowing others feel the same and honestly the maths module always cheers me up.

In my family my niece is now 16 months old which is mind boggling cause wow she's like a tiny human who can walk and talk and everything. We also have a new dog at home who knows no boundaries at all but you can't stay mad at him because of how gosh darn cute he is.

Friends wise I've made new ones and kept old ones, I contact some less than I should but that's something to work on going forwards. It's weird having gone from hanging round one set of people all the time to suddenly having a new group that you find yourself getting to know daily, but I suppose that reflects the way life works. We move on and we grow and we repeat old cycles with new people.

Love life wise, well, nothing much to talk about there oof. This is, of course, drastically wrong as in a year I have gone from being the girl who secretly complains that everyone else is in a relationship and I'll probably be single my whole life to now being one of those other people. I'm in a serious relationship and I'll be damned if she isn't the best thing to ever happen to me. To outsiders we may seem like some of the most different people ever, but everything just seems to click when we're together. It's like despite how tired I get socialising with other people, I could never tire of her. It's like finding home in a person, her face, her voice, her political rants just have a way of grounding me and making me feel like everything's going to be okay.

Leading on from love life, I guess I have to mention that since last Halloween, I came out. To everyone. My friends, my family. It's weird going from only one person knowing I'm bi to casually dropping "Oh my girlfriend likes that" or something akin to that, into conversations without thinking about it. It was a strange journey and it was touch and go with my dad for a moment and I'm still not sure we're 100% but I suppose we'll see where we are next Samhain.

When I think about how my relationship with myself has changed it's been rocky. I do think I'm in a better place mentally, but there also some ongoing challenges which seek to break that, learning to live alone at university and be away from those I love being a big one. But I do think I've learned to cope better. I continue to have issues with how I look, what I weigh, what I wear, how people perceive me but I also know so do most students and I can get through this.

It's been a big year. Reflecting on what's passed is good, but looking forward to what's to come is even better. I know there are great things ahead of me this year and I can only hope that this time in a year I am able to reflect on every single one of them.
