Labored breaths sawed through gritted teeth, and your jaw was clenched in pain. You were still confused as to how you got here, how a simple robbery devolved into you getting caught by Kraven. Peter warned you of him, and of his agenda to create the perfect hunt by hunting down heroes and villains alike. Since you shared the same powers as Peter, you would be a prime target. You were trying to be so careful and to check your surroundings, but you still got caught. You found yourself utterly surrounded by Kraven’s reinforcements, and you fought tooth and nail to get away. While you did escape, unfortunately, you weren’t able to leave unscathed.
Your body hurt. It hurt so much. It hurt just to be swinging, which you were doing wildly as Kraven’s hunters chased you through the streets of New York.
Bruises, welts, and gashes of every kind littered your body. Stab wounds and gunshots had you whimpering as blood soaked your spidey suit. You could barely breathe, your chest shaking as bone rattling coughs made you spit out some blood into your mask. From behind, you could hear your assailants gaining ground. You heard their yelling, and you felt your spider senses tingle aggressively. You webbed a line to a building, and using the momentum, shot yourself around the corner to make a hard left. You just heard the bullet bury itself into the passing concrete instead of your body. The next web you created was used to propel you forward, your body twisting on instinct, and while you were suspended in the air, you flipped yourself upside down to face the hunters that were pursuing you. You folded your two middle fingers against your palms and shot thick globs of web fluid. When it hit, the shot exploded on impact to web multiple enemies at once. They screamed before they fell from their airborne vehicles. Another hunter was preparing to shoot you, so you webbed the gun from his hand before you lassoed the weapon back at him. You could hear the crunch of metal against cartilage as your attack launched him backwards off his vehicle as well. That took care of the guys that were closest to you, but you could see more just several hundred feet behind gaining more ground.
You shot out another web to catch yourself, and after orienting back upright, made another hard turn to get out of their immediate line of sight. You could see the Avenger’s Tower ahead, and you felt some hope trickle into you. You had to make it home. You couldn’t die like this. Wanda was waiting for you. Just a few hours ago, she stopped you and told you to come back to her safely. Then, she rolled up your mask just enough to give you a tender kiss on the lips before she rolled it down and smoothed it back in place. It was the cutest thing that you’d ever witnessed, and you needed to go home to her. You promised. You couldn't break that promise.
The compound drew closer and closer, the wind whipping through you uncontrollably. The pain you felt increased in tangent with the amount of blood you were losing. Already, you could feel darkness prickling against the edges of your vision. As you got closer, you could actually see Wanda making herself a cup of tea as she wore one of your shirts and her sweatpants. She was right there. Right there. You were so focused on escaping and getting to your girlfriend, that you didn’t hear the cock of another rifle. You couldn’t focus on your spider senses, your panic driving you on, as you launched yourself forward. You heard the loud crack of a gunshot just milliseconds before blood exploded from your upper chest. A strangled scream tore from you, and you lost the grip on your web. You went limp, but that didn’t stop your body from flying ahead and crashing into one of the glass windows. Distantly, you heard and felt the glass shatter, a few shards cutting into you and imbedding themselves into your body like the bullets did. There was another explosion of agony in your body, one that made the world around you flicker, before you crashed into the floor. Wanda yelped, the tea in her hands slipping from her grip to shatter on the ground. Steaming, hot fluid spread on the wood floors, but it was abandoned as you skidded to a stop. Several streaks of blood followed your body. Red painted the floors from the moment you crashed through the window and until the moment you stopped. Now, it was pooling beneath you, ominously dark under your body. You were deathly still saved for the agonized breaths and wet coughs that left you. You heard footsteps sprinting towards you before someone dropped to their knees. As gently as ever, your mask was removed from you, and you were greeted with the blurry sight of your girlfriend. Her green eyes, eyes that you loved very much, were wide with panic. Russian curses fell from her lips in rapid succession as her hands flurried over you.
“Y/n? Y/n!” she called out to you, her hand cupping your cheek. You couldn’t feel it. You gave her a weak smile, your teeth shiny and tinted red with your own blood.
“Have I ever told you how much I love your accent?” you choked out deliriously. You coughed again, some droplets of blood staining your chapped lips before a dribble of it ran down your chin.
She was shaking her head, her eyes filling with tears. “What happened?”
You didn’t get the chance to answer. From behind, the hunters jumped onto the balcony, and sprinted towards the compound with their weapons drawn. The one that shot you was at the forefront of the group, and he had his rifle pointed at Wanda. You had just enough strength to save her, and you looked into your girlfriend’s shiny, green eyes.
“I love you, Wands. And I’m sorry.”
Her eyes were widening at your words, but you were already moving as you drew on the last of your strength. You grabbed her by her shoulders, flipped her around in one smooth movement, and pressed her against the floor right as the hunter fired. You felt another explosion of pain in your body, and everything suddenly went dark as you collapsed.
***
Indiscernible and fractured scenes came to you as you floated in and out of consciousness. You heard Wanda’s screams. You heard more voices, some of them familiar. There were more sounds of fighting and struggling. There was a flash of red light. You swore that you saw a body being flung around. Shivers of ice coldness ate at your body, every breath you breathed more labored and sluggish than the last. Then, you felt pressure on your body. There were more flashes of light, but this time, from the ceiling as you were rushed down a hallway. When you turned your head to the side, you saw Wanda. She was covered in a little blood, but more than that, she was crying. Her lips were moving, her hand wrapped around yours. You could only hear hellish echoes of her voice, but you swore that she was telling you to hold on. How could you tell her that you were trying when your lips wouldn’t move, wouldn’t cooperate? You tried to squeeze her hand to let her know that you were still here, that you wouldn’t go anywhere, but you couldn’t feel that either. All you could do was succumb to the darkness once more as an oxygen mask was placed over your mouth. When you woke up again, the sounds of conundrum incased you. You were surrounded by Dr. Cho, Bruce, and Stephen. Dr. Cho had her hands overlapping each other and pressing rhythmically against your chest.
“We’re losing them!” you barely managed to hear.
Bruce had pads in his hands. He rubbed them together and you heard something power on, the deep whine of energy gathering somewhere beside you. Dr. Cho pulled away from you right when he yelled clear. Something cold touched your bare chest right as you lost consciousness again. You awoke. It could have been seconds, minutes, or days later. Your eyes flew wide open, and a gasp of air filled your lungs as your back arched. Immediately, a scream of pain shredded your throat as awareness slammed into you with the force of a speeding train.
“Y/n! Y/n!”
This time you heard her. Your panicked gaze turned to Wanda, who was crying hard and cupping your cheek with one hand.
“You’re okay,” she soothed tenderly. “You’re okay. You’re going to be okay.”
More agonized breaths sawed in and out of you as your vision blurred. You squeezed your eyes shut when another wave of pain drowned you alive, and you felt your tears spill down your cheeks. People were moving behind Wanda frantically and they were all covered in your blood as they rushed to stabilize you.
“Wanda, I’m dying,” you whimpered as you tried to open your eyes and look at her. Your entire body burned sickeningly. Sharp bouts of stabbing and searing pain lit your nerves on fire, and you couldn’t keep still as you writhed. “It feels like I’m dying.”
“You’re not dying,” she reassured you. “Let me do it, Stephen.”
He turned to look at you, his gaze full of sympathy before he gave her a single nod. Immediately, red magic blossomed to life around her fingertips. Those fingers then reached to your other cheek to cup it in warmth.
“Go to sleep, detka,” she murmured, her accent weaving around the words that you were compelled to obey.
Wanda watched as her magic washed over you, the red seeping into your skin before it manifested in your eyes. Red met red, her eyes meeting yours as magic emanated in both, and your breathing slowed. The pain was easing away from you, whether done so by Wanda or the morphine that was being injected into your IV, but your body slumped back in the bed and went slack.
“Don’t let me die, Wands,” you whispered, your eyes fluttering as they began to shut. “Please.”
“I’ll be right here, baby.”
It was all you heard before everything faded into nothing.
***
A kiss on your cheek and the rhythmic beeps of a machine next to you was what coaxed you awake. You took a deep breath, your head throbbing as your eyes fluttered. Already, the lighting in the room was dimmed, so when you forced your eyes open, all you had to do was blink away the blurriness. Wanda came into focus slowly, and you saw the dried tear tracks on her cheeks. Her eyes were horribly red, but not from her magic. She sniffled before she slightly leaned over you.
“Y/n?”
You gave her a groggy smile. “Hey there, baby girl,” you croaked.
Wanda smiled at the pet name, and this time, when she gently kissed you, she did so on your lips. It was wet from her tears, but you savored it all the same.
“I’m sorry,” you whispered when she pulled away, but she shook her head.
“Why are you sorry?”
“I promised that I would be safe and come back to you. I fucked up.”
She was already shaking her head, her hand cupping your cheek again. “You came back, and then you took a bullet for me, babe. I almost lost you.”
The moment she said it, you had a broken flash of memory flit through you where you heard Dr. Cho yell that they were losing you.
“I died, didn’t I?” you whispered, and all Wanda could do was nod before she broke, more sobs spilling from her. She mumbled something in Russian to herself, but then spoke to you.
“I was so fucking scared, Y/n. So goddamn scared. I really thought that I was going to lose you.”
Despite the pain it caused you, you gently leaned up, careful of the wires and needles attached to your arms, and pulled Wanda in for a hug. You remembered begging her to not let you die, and you shook your head at yourself. The words had been out of your mouth before you could think of them, not that you could. Your biggest fear, in that moment, was leaving her behind when you wanted to build a future with her. Wanda was your forever and ever. You buried your nose into her hair and inhaled. It smelled like her shampoo, and you let the scent fill you before you pulled back and placed a kiss on her forehead.
“You’re not going to lose me, Wanda, not when there isn’t a force that can keep me from you. I am so in love with you.”
She pressed a kiss to the underside of your jaw. “I love you too, malysh. In every life and the next.”
Wanda laced her fingers through yours and held you close. From down the hall, you heard voices approach, and you looked at her with bewildered eyes.
“You had to know that the team was going to want to see you,” she said with a smile.
You chuckled and kissed the back of her hand. “Of course, of course.”
You wanted nothing more than to be surrounded by your family.

Imagine getting kidnapped when trying to help Regina save Henry.
Tumblr media
Finding Henry hadn’t been easy. And when you knew there were others being kept just as he was, you knew you had to go back. Your first priority was getting Henry back to Regina, but you couldn’t just leave the others behind, not that Henry would let you.
You motioned Henry onward as you stayed back to free the rest of the prisoners. Time was of the essence and you had less of it than you thought. You broke the final lock allowing the last of them to make their escape, and then the world went black.
You woke up to your head pounding and realized that while you’d staged a successful rescue, you’d landed yourself in their place. Regina was not going to like this news when it reached her.
“Henry, where’s—”
“Back saving the others,” Henry replied.
Of course you were, Regina thought. Now she had something else to worry about. Regina sent Henry with Emma to get him back to the relative safety of Storybrooke while she waited behind for those you’d decided to save. Too much time had passed and survivors had stopped coming. Something was wrong.
Despite your best efforts, you couldn’t seem to manage freeing yourself. You tried everything, but your energy was waning and all your attempts had proved fruitless. You braced yourself for one final effort when the doors came busting down. “How many times have I told you to stop playing the hero? One of these times, I won’t be here to save you.”
You smiled, despite the furious expression on Regina’s face. “I kind of doubt that,” you teased. “You like playing the hero too much too.”

There were many things about being an Avenger that you truly loved. Your friends and family were one of those perks, the line between the two blurring, ever since the Avengers defeated Thanos. The moment Thanos snapped, the moment you watched the people you loved turn into dust before your very eyes, was the moment where you realized, that everyone that fought by your side was your family. You didn’t care that you lost the war. It was a selfish sentiment that you would never dare to utter out loud. In that moment, where you felt your heart shatter a thousand times over, it didn’t feel like you failed the world. It felt like you failed the people you loved. You and the remaining Avengers stopped at nothing to get your team back, your family members. Consequently, with defeating Thanos came a satisfaction so resolute, that it almost healed the wounds in your heart. Almost. It still felt like you failed though you eventually got everyone back. It shouldn’t have happened in the first place. If you had been stronger, better, faster, Wanda wouldn’t have died in your arms on that day. You still remember the shaky breaths that left her, the rapid and jagged beating of her heart, and the slow tears that dripped down her pallid cheeks. When she collapsed, at first, you ran to her side and gently eased her into your lap as you ripped off your mask. In your mind, she was exhausted, tired, and hurting. Wanda had to destroy Vision, her best friend, to keep one of the stones from Thanos. In the end, her pain, her tears, and the guilt she felt at having to sacrifice someone she loved had been for nothing. Thanos still got the stone. He managed to collect all six, and everyone watched with fear and bated breath, as he snapped his fingers.
First, it was Bucky. Then, it was Sam. Then, it was T’Challa. And Groot. Then, it was Wanda. It started at her feet and slowly made its way up. Pieces of her turned into ash, inch by torturous inch, and floated away in the breeze polluted with the stench of death and darkened by the smoke of war and destruction. When you saw what was happening to her, all you could do was shake your head slowly, the denial at what was about to happen quickly engulfing you. The tears fell faster as sobs left your lips, and you clutched onto her with every ounce of your strength. Wanda reassured you over and over, her hand cupping your cheek as teary sobs left her, that everything was going to be okay, and that you were going to be alright. Her very last words to you were that she loved you, and the last of her that you felt before she disappeared from your hold had been the cold and shaky touch of her caress on your cheeks. You watched as what was left of her, the dust that had once been the woman you loved, disappeared into the orange hue of the sky that was ablaze with fire and explosions. Five years. That was how long it’d been. Five years. That was 260 weeks. 1,826 days. 43,830 hours. 15,780,000 seconds. You had to live that entire time without Wanda in your arms, without feeling her body against yours. Five years not seeing the gorgeous smile you loved. Five years not hearing the accent you adored. Five years not seeing the lush green of her eyes, eyes that reminded you of the green dahlias she loved to plant in her garden. Five years without the feel of her lips against yours. Five years not hearing her moans when you made love to her. Five years with you realizing, as every second ticked, the arms on the clock mocking you as they kept moving while your world ground to a screeching halt, that your future with her was gone. Just like that. All with the snap of two fingers. She was gone, and at the time, the last memory you had of her, was of her crying in your arms.
…but you couldn’t think about that right now. Not when you were in the middle of a mission, but also, you didn’t want to think about what those 5 years did to you. You could hardly remember them. The trauma had scorched those five years completely from your mind, and there were some things just not worth remembering.
Regardless of the hardships endured, there were only a few select things about being an Avenger that you truly hated. This one, you realized with growing dread, was one of them. You scaled down the walls of Oscorp Industries, silently making your way to the lower lab. It was eerie being in here by yourself. You weren’t in any immediate danger, or else your spider senses would have been bouncing off the walls of your mind, but you couldn’t shake the feeling that something was very, very wrong. To say that you hated Norman Osborn wasn’t quite true, but you didn’t like the man either. Rumors of his biological experimentation had spread like wildfire in the public news. However, the allegations couldn’t be proven without any substantial evidence. Norman was by the book. He crossed his T’s, dotted his I’s, and made sure that any mistakes that were made were taken care of internally. By government standards, what he was doing wasn’t illegal, just immoral. So, they allowed him to keep experimenting. Except, whatever happened just a few hours before you arrived was apparently so out of his hands that he had to call the Avengers. “His hand was forced” Nick repeated to you, Osborn’s words, not his, he told you as you were briefed on the mission details. Osborn had been less than forthcoming with any specifics, but he did say that the building was entirely evacuated of all personnel, and that whatever escaped was contained…for now.
This was where you came in. You made your way to the lower floors, and still crawled further down into the basement. Each floor you passed looked the same as the previous. Empty. Abandoned. Desolate. Eerie. Though the loud buzzer of the alarm was silenced, the overhead, florescent lights still remained off while the white, sharp lights of the alarms flashed repeatedly. It illuminated the space around you a millisecond at a time, and you felt like you’d dived head first into a scary movie. Someone would either scream at you to leave while they knew of the danger that lurked below, or would call you a dumbass for entering because they knew the danger that you weren’t aware of just yet. You would be the latter if you were in the audience.
The comm in your mask chirped to life and you flinched, your heart jumping into your throat at the sudden, unexpected noise.
“Any updates, Y/n?” Fury asked. You had to swallow your heart back into your chest before you could answer.
“So far so good,” you replied. “It’s spooky as hell in this building though.”
You could hear his chuckles. “Need back up?”
“Nah, I got this.”
“Copy that.”
You got lower and lower, your hands and feet gripping the walls securely as the lab you needed to enter came into focus. The moment you reached the ground and stood on two feet, you received a phone call. This, too, was patched through your mask and you smiled. You already knew who it was.
“My, my Ms. Maximoff,” you answered with a chuckle. “Don’t tell me that this is a booty call.”
You heard Wanda’s adorable giggles. In your mind’s eye, you could see the way her eyes squint when her smile reached them, the way the green would sparkle as her cheeks flushed a pretty pink.
“We live together, silly,” she finally said when she was able to talk. Still, some chuckles bubbled from the other end of the call, and you nibbled your bottom lip with your teeth as you felt your heart flip in your chest. “I was calling to see what you wanted for dinner.”
“You can be my breakfast, lunch, and dinner, baby girl,” you said with a husk. “I can always use the extra protein.”
Wanda snorted at your not-so-subtle innuendo. “As tempting as that sounds,” she said, her voice sarcastic but still humorous. “I was hoping that we could both eat. I’ve missed you and I wanted us to have a dinner together.”
You couldn’t help the bubble of emotion in your chest, your love for Wanda somehow growing stronger when you heard her words. It’d been a hectic few weeks, that’s for sure. It was mission after mission, assignment after assignment, and for those weeks, all you were able to share with her were only a few phone calls. You missed her too and you wanted nothing more than to be in her presence.
“I’ll cook us something,” she added when you didn’t immediately respond. You smirked.
“Do you want to cook?”
A laugh. “Not really, no.”
“Then, I’ll pick us up some Chinese on the way home.”
You could hear the excitement in her voice. “Oh! Can you get the potstickers?”
“Of course. Steamed not fried, with chicken not pork, and the ginger, sesame seed, soy dipping sauce on the side. Just the way you like it.”
“You know me so well, detka.”
“I try. I have to go and clean up a rich man’s mess. I love you.”
“One of these days, I’m going to put you in a maid’s uniform. It’ll be one of those slutty ones too, like what you see in anime? With as much cleaning Fury is having you do lately, I think you need a change in uniform.”
You smirked. “Don’t forget to buy the matching collar.”
“Now that is an idea,” she replied on a laugh. “I love you too. Be safe.”
“Yes ma’am. See you tonight.”
You ended the call and returned to the task at hand. Right as you webbed the doors and pulled them open with your strength, you heard the comm crackle to life in your ear.
“Y/n, I keep telling you to mute your comm when it concerns personal matters.” You smiled.
“And I keep telling you to not eavesdrop or you wouldn’t be as traumatized as you are. Besides, this isn’t the worst thing you’ve ever heard. Remember that time we all heard Yelena and Kate-”
“If you finish that sentence, I swear to god I’ll fire you,” Fury grumbled, the threat very much empty.
You couldn’t help the cackle that left you. Yelena and Kate thought it appropriate to have phone sex one day and they both forgot to shut off their comms. Fury was unable to mute the lines on his end so you, Natasha, and Bucky all heard what was said in excruciating detail. Bucky had turned an ugly shade of red before excusing himself. Natasha cackled the entire time, her phone out and recording what was being said before she sent it to both Yelena and Kate. Fury released a deep sigh before reaching beneath his desk and removing a shot glass and a bottle of tequila. He said that he was going to drink until the last few hours were completely scorched from his internal mainframe. It hadn’t worked. The only thing he successfully did was give himself a hangover that incapacitated him for two days. And you? Well, you grabbed a note pad and a pen from Fury’s desk and started scrawling notes. To say that the conversation you heard was colorful and informative was an understatement. There were things you heard that were definitely not a part of your sex ed curriculum when you were in high school. Later that night, you told Wanda what happened and what you learned. Then, you both decided to put your new knowledge to the test. It resulted in Wanda having some of the best orgasms of her life, and you sprinted into work the next day thanking Kate and Yelena profusely while they stared at you in horror. It took a month for the teasing to stop. It only did when Tony took a dick pic and sent it to the group chat and not to Pepper. Nick was a part of that chat, and when he saw it, he closed his one eye, sighed in defeat, and reached for the tequila bottle under his desk. He forwent the shot glass and wrapped his lips around the bottle instead, chugging mouthfuls at a time like the contents inside were water.
“I do like being employed,” you said.
“Then please do your job and go home to your girl.”
“Aye aye.”
You continued into the lab, the hallways just as pitch black as the floors were, and you moved silently. You listened intently and kept your guard up as you searched. So far, nothing was out of the ordinary, and you kept moving forward until you reached a reinforced metal door. You tried to enter the code Osborn provided, but the keypad would flash red and beep. You were about to contact Fury when you saw another means of entry. You shot a web at the vent and yanked the cover off before you webbed a line to pull yourself inside. You were only in there for a second before you removed another cover and dropped to the floor.
The lab you were in was massive, and it was completely wrecked. Electric panels had been ripped from various machines and the walls. Sparks of energy crackled and flew haphazardly to the ground before they fizzled out. Ripped wires and tubing hung from the ceiling. The white flashing of the alarms barely illuminated the space before you, but thanks to your enhanced vision, you weren’t having any problems. There were cracks and craters in the floors. As you looked around, you saw what looked to be a black rocked housed inside of a tank. The reinforced and impenetrable glass was cracked. Pieces of it were still breaking off and falling to the ground in sharp twinkles of sound. Something destroyed this place, and as you glanced back to the door you tried to enter from, you saw the deep indents of something strong and seemingly incorporeal in the metal of the door. It tried to batter its way out, the metal warped beyond repair.
“What do you see?” Fury asked after a while.
“It looks like someone released the Hulk in here.” You knew that Fury could hear the sparks flying from the demolished electronics in the room. “Beyond that, I am not seeing anything.”
You turned and looked towards the black rock. It was iridescent, shiny, and shimmering as it reflected what little light still shined on it. Something inside of you told you not to touch it.
“Any casualties?”
“No.”
Something shifted behind you. It’d been quick, just the sound of movement that had you spinning on your feet. You looked around and held your breath, the seconds passing by without you hearing anything else before you relaxed. Maybe it was a trick of your senses. The darkness coupled with the unexplained destruction you were seeing played with your nerves. You turned to leave, but you still remained vigilant.
“Sorry, Nick, but there’s nothing-”
Your words were suddenly cut off when you felt your spider senses tingle, and you were about to whirl back around when something wet and dense slammed onto your back. What would have been a retaliatory attack against whatever was on you, morphed into you gaining your footing, standing there, and staring around the lab with confusion. What just happened? That fleeting feeling of panic was there and gone in a flash, and a sudden feeling of being okay replaced whatever had gripped you at first. Your spider sense faded back to normal, and you reached behind your back to feel nothing but the smooth texture of your suit. Nothing was out of place, and you furrowed your eyebrows. The more you thought about it, the more you couldn’t remember why you were so ready to attack in the first place.
“Y/n? Are you okay?”
You looked around once more, before turning to leave. “Yeah, I’m good. I almost tripped over something, I think. Osborn must be getting sloppy in his old age, but there’s nothing down here anymore. Whatever was in here must have escaped.”
“Okay, return to the compound, debrief, and go home.”
“Understood.”
You started to make your way back out, but had you been able to see what happened on your back, you would have seen the last few remnants of black soak into your body before it disappeared from sight altogether.

Imagine wanting Alex to be your girlfriend for Christmas.
Tumblr media
You’d had a crush on Alex since forever, at least, that’s what it felt like. It was actually going on a year now. You’d attempted to flirt, but it never went quite the way you planned and Alex wasn’t picking up on your signals. So you’d resigned yourself to wishing on a star. The holidays were around the corner and all you really wanted for Christmas was Alex. So, despite the childlike quality of it, you wished for it to be true. That Alex Danvers would be your girlfriend this Christmas. It was the best you could manage at this point.
When Christmas Eve came, you were headed to the party the super friends were throwing, content enough to just enjoy an evening with your friends. You saw Lena walk in just ahead of you and Alex welcomed her in. You smiled just at the sight of Alex. It was a reflex you couldn’t help. You followed behind Lena by several seconds just as Alex was reaching to shut the door. She hadn’t seen you in the hallway behind Lena.
Now, the two of you shared the tight space in the doorway, you with gifts in hand and Alex not knowing what to say, having almost closed the door on you. Then Kara chimed in from the kitchen. "Aww, look who's under the mistletoe," to which you blushed and Alex let out a nervous giggle.
"We don’t have to," you said, offering Alex a way out of the awkward situation. But Alex didn’t take it. Instead, she leaned in, bending over your short stack of presents and softly kissed your lips. It looks like you got your Christmas wish after all.

9. Do you have any hobbies? Is fangirling counted as a hobby? If yes, then fangirling!
10. If someone gave you a penguin, would you keep it as a pet? I'd love to have a penguin, but I think it would be better off somewhere else since I would have no idea how to take care of that kinda cutie.

***10 years later***
Retirement had never felt so good. After almost 15 years of traveling and making music, it was finally time to unplug the guitar from the amp. You made many memories as you traveled across the world. It was truly an experience you were never going to forget, but it was time to settle down. Your bandmates felt the same. All of you had partners and families. You, yourself, had a daughter and a wife, and you missed them every time you went on tour. It wasn’t enough for you to see them during Facetime. The phone calls weren’t enough anymore. You were missing out on crucial milestones with your daughter. You missed her first words and her first steps. You didn’t want to miss anything anymore. So, after one last farewell tour, where you said goodbye to your fans, you spent the rest of your time with your daughter, Ruby, and your wife, Sam.
You loved your family. Ruby had such a personality for a little kid. She was curious. Good lord, was she curious. She got into everything, climbed on anything. She asked loads of questions about anything she laid her big brown eyes on, and you loved it. You let her explore. You let her question whatever she wanted and answered everything as best as you could. You let her be autonomous, and as she got bigger, you discovered just how intelligent she was. The things she used to build with her legos were astonishing. At Sam’s suggestion, you both taught her how to read and write, and within a month, she was already writing her name. Honestly, her intellect scared you a little.
“What the hell did you eat while you were pregnant?” you often asked your wife, and every time she would laugh and kiss your cheek.
“Must have been the spinach and mini wheats.”
By the time Ruby reached kindergarten, her teacher was astonished by her wit and intelligence. She was miles ahead of the other kids except for one other person. Her friend, Alexa. Ruby had so much to say about her new friend. It was always “Alexa taught me a new way to tie my shoes” or “Alexa taught me how to say hello in French.”
“You’re making Alexa sound like a superstar,” you said to her once. You watched as her eyes lit up with excitement and admiration.
“She’s the best, Mommy! I think you would like her if you met her.”
You smiled and kissed her cheek. “I’ll tell you what. If you want to make a play date with her, I’m game.”
“Really?!” she practically screamed, and you winced a bit as her voice pierced your ear drums.
“Of course, baby girl. Let’s make it happen.”
And she did make it happen. That was how you ended up in the park right now. You and Ruby arrived at the park before Alexa and her parents did, so you told her to go play until her friend got here. You sat on the park bench with an acoustic guitar in your lap and you strummed a few cords as the wind blew through the vibrantly green leaves. You watched your daughter play with some other kids, smiling at the way she was having fun. She was the light of your life, and you were so happy to be a part of hers. After a few moments, you heard her giggle, and you looked up to her running towards a little girl in the parking lot. She just made it out of her car before Ruby wrapped her little arms around her body and scooped her up into a bear hug. The little girl screamed as she hugged her back and you smiled fondly at the interaction. Ruby put her down and pulled her towards you.
“You gotta meet my Mommy!”
You chuckled when you saw two little girls run to stand in front of you. Next to Ruby stood Alexa, and when you looked into her eyes, you were overcome with the strongest wave of recognition. They were an effervescent shade of emerald green, and she gave you a sweet but shy smile.
“Hi, my name is Alexa,” she said politely.
“Hello, Alexa. My name is Y/n, and I am so happy to meet you. This one over here,” you said as you winked at your daughter. “Had so many wonderful things to say about you.”
She blushed a little as she played with her hands shyly.
“The day is all about you two. Go have fun.”
Ruby started to pull her away and Alexa let her, but before she could get out of earshot, she looked at you. “My mom plays your music all the time. I really like your voice.”
You furrowed your eyebrows in confusion but thanked her, nonetheless. What a small world that her mom happened to know of you. You went back to strumming lazily. You played one of your old songs, the strings producing hushed melodious music that carried in the slight wind. As you watched the girls and played, you heard footsteps approaching you from behind.
“I haven’t heard that song in a really long time.”
You paused as your eyes widened. Were your ears playing tricks on you? Because you knew that voice. You turned around to meet the same green eyes her daughter had.
“Lena?”
“Hey stranger,” she said with a flawless smile.
You put down the guitar and stood up. “Oh my god. Oh my god! I haven’t seen you in forever!”
Lena approached you excitedly and gave you a polite hug. “How have you been?”
“Good,” you said. “How have you been?”
“Busy,” she answered truthfully.
“I can only imagine. You’re running an entire company. Congrats for that by the way!”
“Thank you! But it’s not just one,” she said as she held up two fingers and wiggled them.
“Two?!” you exclaimed incredulously. “What’s the other one?”
“CatCo. I recently bought it and I’m having someone else run L-Corp for me.”
“This person. Is her name Sam?”
Lena’s eyebrows flew up. “Oh! You know her?”
"She's my wife!” you said with a laugh.
Lena laughed as well, but you watched her gaze shift to your left hand. She stared at your ring long enough for you to notice and you chuckled awkwardly.
“What are the odds that your daughter would know mine?” Lena asked as she sat down next to you on the picnic table.
You could only shrug. “Small world or crazy odds. We should go play a lottery.”
Lena smirked as she looked at you. You looked good. The years were kind to you. You no longer had the baby face she loved once upon a time ago. Your features were more angular and mature. Even when wearing a leather coat, a band tee, and jeans, she could tell that you still took care of yourself.
You looked at Lena and smiled. The years were kind to her as well. She radiated a confidence she didn’t have when you knew her. She stood up straighter, carried herself better. Lena looked good.
“What’s happened in your world?” you asked her.
She shrugged nonchalantly. “Running businesses. Taking care of my partner. Keeping that one busy,” she said with a chuckle as she motioned to her daughter.
“Are you still with Kara?”
When you mentioned her name, Lena’s smile faltered a little, but she nodded. You looked down to see the modest ring on her left hand and you smiled. The air was silent as you watched your daughter play with hers.
“Y/n, I wanted to say I’m sorry,” Lena blurted suddenly.
You stared at her, her apology catching you off guard as you regarded her with wide, confused eyes.
“We just got here,” you replied with a hesitant chuckle. “What are you sorry for?”
“I’m sorry for what I did back then. To you, I mean.”
“Oh…”
She nodded as she went quiet for a few heartbeats. Then, she took a deep breath.
“I hurt you. Deeply. And I’m sorry.”
You listened to her, your eyes meeting hers.
“I accept your apology, Lena,” you told her. “We were both young with no real clue about what we wanted. I didn’t know it at the time, but I really was focused on the band. I wanted to travel the world, and see new things, and see new sites. I don’t blame you for leaving,” you said honestly with a shrug. “You had needs and they weren’t being met.”
Lena nodded. “I could have done it better. I shouldn’t have broken up with you over the phone while you were on tour.”
“Yeah, that kind of sucked,” you said as you laughed, and Lena offered a sad smile. “But I don’t hold that against you. As often as I was on tour, it wasn’t like you had many opportunities to break up with me properly.”
Lena snorted and looked away, her smile wide as she played with her hands nervously. You looked at her and gently bumped your shoulder against hers playfully.
“Water under the bridge?”
She nodded. “I would really like it if we could be friends.”
Right as she said it, you heard loud screaming and giggling as the girls played on the slide.
“I think I’d like that. It seems that we won’t be able to separate our kids from each other. I wouldn’t want anything between us to affect them, regardless.”
Lena nodded and was quiet again. “Can I ask you something?”
“Of course,” you answered.
“If it’s personal, you don't have to answer.”
“It’s okay, Lena,” you reassured her.
She swallowed thickly as she looked at the grass. “What did you do with the wedding ring?”
You instantly knew what she was talking about. “I still have it,” you answered truthfully. “Sam knows about the things that happened between us and I told her that I couldn’t part with it.”
“Why not?”
You shrugged. “I struggled after you left, Lee,” you admitted quietly.
Lena smiled softly at the nickname you used for her back when you were together. She put a comforting hand on your shoulder.
“I struggled a lot. I struggled with strong negative feelings, both towards you and myself. My band mates convinced me to do virtual therapy and it was then that things did start to get better. At first, that ring was a source of resentment, but as time went on and my perspective about everything that we went through changed, it became a source of nostalgia.”
You contemplated whether saying your next words out loud was a good idea. You didn’t know if it was, and almost decided against it.
But one thing that you wished you had was closure. True closure. There was the very last night you talked to her, but you had practically thrown her out in the rain. What you thought was closure had been your attempt at retaliation. After that, in your stubbornness, you wanted nothing more to do with her. You didn’t even want to hear her name again. You did a lot of unhealthy things to cope, things you weren’t proud of. That was what led you to therapy. It took time, but once your feelings changed, you wanted to call Lena and apologize. You didn’t get that chance then.
But you had it now.
“I loved you, Lena,” you said as you looked at her. “I did. I just didn’t love you right and I’m sorry.”
Lena nodded. She patted your shoulder before she removed her hand. You both watched your kids silently for the next few moments before she said her next sentence.
“Water under the bridge.”
