Blasphemous Mockery at the 2024 Olympics
The 2024 Olympic Games, a global event meant to celebrate the pinnacle of human athletic achievement and international unity, has been marred by an outrageous and deeply offensive act. During the opening ceremony, a scene was staged that parodied Leonardo da Vinci's sacred masterpiece, "The Last Supper." This disgraceful display, featuring men dressed as women in flamboyant costumes, was nothing short of blasphemy.
Tumblr media
A Sacred Image Desecrated
"The Last Supper" is not just any painting; it is a profound depiction of Jesus Christ's final meal with His disciples before His crucifixion. This moment holds immense significance for millions of Christians worldwide. To see this sacred scene recreated with such irreverence, devoid of any sense of respect or understanding of its profound spiritual importance, is beyond insulting. It is a direct affront to the core beliefs of the Christian faith.
The Olympics: A Platform for Unity, Not Division
The Olympic Games are supposed to bring nations together, to promote peace, understanding, and respect among diverse cultures and beliefs. Instead, the 2024 opening ceremony chose to mock a central tenet of Christianity, sowing division and causing deep offense. This act was not just a misguided attempt at artistic expression; it was a calculated move that trivialized a moment of deep religious reverence.
Artistic Freedom vs. Religious Respect
While artistic freedom is essential, it comes with the responsibility to respect the beliefs and values of others. This performance was not about pushing boundaries or challenging norms; it was a blatant disregard for the sanctity of religious imagery. There is a fine line between creative expression and outright disrespect, and this display crossed it in the most egregious manner.
A Call for Accountability
The organizers of the 2024 Olympics must be held accountable for this disgraceful act. An apology is not enough. There needs to be a serious reflection on how such an offensive scene was allowed to take place. Measures must be put in place to ensure that such blatant disrespect for religious beliefs never happens again at any international event.
Standing Up for Our Beliefs
As Christians and people of faith, we must stand up against this kind of blasphemy. We cannot remain silent while our sacred symbols and beliefs are mocked on a global stage. It is essential to voice our discontent and demand respect for our religious traditions. Our faith is not a prop for cheap theatrics or a tool for shock value.
The 2024 Olympic Games' opening ceremony should have been a moment of unity and celebration. Instead, it turned into a platform for an offensive and blasphemous display. We must speak out against such acts of disrespect and ensure that the sanctity of our religious beliefs is preserved. Let us demand accountability and strive to create a world where artistic expression and religious respect can coexist harmoniously.
The organizers, performers, and all those involved in this travesty must understand that their actions have consequences. The Christian community, and indeed all people of faith, deserve an apology and a commitment to uphold the respect and dignity that all religions deserve.

Based on the search results and the query, here are some key points on achieving transparency in the separation of religious doctrines and civil law while remaining ethical:
Use of "neutral principles" approach: Courts can apply neutral, generally applicable legal principles to resolve disputes involving religious organizations without entangling themselves in doctrinal matters. This allows for transparency in decision-making while respecting religious autonomy.
Clear delineation of boundaries: Laws and policies should clearly define where religious doctrines end and civil law begins. This provides transparency about which spheres are governed by religious vs. secular authority.
Open discussion of foundational issues: As suggested in result [1], transparent doctrine encourages courts to directly address fundamental questions of speech values and harms, rather than obscuring them behind formalities. This principle could be applied to religious freedom cases as well.
Balancing transparency and other values: While transparency is important, it must be balanced with other considerations like predictability and consistency in the law. Fully transparent standards may sacrifice clarity in some cases.
Operational transparency: As discussed in result [2], religious organizations could adopt "operational transparency" - being open about their processes, decisions, and rationales, while still respecting their spiritual mission.
Avoiding assumptions: Result [3] cautions against assuming that mere notice or transparency justifies discrimination. Ethical transparency should reveal rationales, not just practices.
Respecting institutional independence: While promoting transparency, the unique nature of religious institutions should be respected. Courts should avoid excessive entanglement in internal religious matters.
Public engagement: Transparency could involve public discussion and debate over how to balance religious freedom with other rights and civil law, rather than obscuring these tensions.
The key is finding ways to make the intersection of religious doctrines and civil law more visible and understandable to the public, while still maintaining appropriate boundaries and respecting both religious liberty and the rule of law. This requires careful, context-specific approaches rather than blanket policies.

Pluralidade cultural
Mil religiões contando o mesmo fim
Com várias versões históricas
Para chegarmos todos no final do arco-íris
O pote de ouro que habita nosso ser
“É pras almas”
Deus que está sempre no meio de nós
Evil eye healer
Old black woman inside me
Protector, guardian angel
Storyteller
She was a midwife, a witch
Take away the slavery of souls with your hand
With guinea and rue
Where would we be without all these infantry?
Cultural plurality
Thousand religions counting the same purpose
With several historical versions
Everyone arrives at the end of the rainbow
The pot of gold that inhabits our being
“It´s for souls”
God is always within us

Growing up Christian in Cairo can be a unique experience, as Egypt is a predominantly Muslim country. However, Egypt is also home to a significant Christian minority, particularly in the capital city of Cairo.
Christians in Cairo often attend church services in Coptic Orthodox churches, which are the largest Christian denomination in Egypt. These churches are known for their distinctive architecture, including domes and steeples, and their rich history and traditions. Many Coptic Orthodox churches also offer Sunday school classes and youth groups for young people to learn more about their faith.

Lina grew up a minority Christian in Cairo, Egypt. Frustrated with the sexist society around her, she moved to Canada in her 20s. Here she discovered that, in the name of Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion, people in the West fail to realize that within every cultural community, there are some unique minds and souls that think differently, and they deserve an equal opportunity to be heard and to express their views. In order to try and correct this egregious wrong, she published a book called "Liberation – Secrets of the Soul,” it is a collection of short stories, revealing existential moments in the lives of ordinary women, from a variety of cultural backgrounds, as they journey to self-fulfillment.

In Islam, we respect every religion and practice religious tolerance. Whether you Christian, Hindu or Jew (Muslim, Atheist, or Buddhist), we support your right to believe what you what, behave in acts of faith and to practice your religion.
There is a verse in the Quran called the verse of the dis-believer. It says, in summary, while we do not believe what you believe, to you a religion and to me one. I truly believe that and hope that everyone does.

For us to understand why African Spirituality continues to remain so marginalised and misunderstood, we have to explore the role of Colonialism in creating falsehoods around it and how it continues today in the media and from other religious bodies...
