Something I've observed that deeply saddens me: the lack of Nakanaka X Ren content.

Like, this is literally the rarest rare pair I've EVER shipped. It's so rare that it doesn't even have it's own page on the SHIPPING WIKI. And honestly, I'm quite surprised.

Like, imagine the amount of CONTENT you could make from these two, the amount of 'we can't fuck her, so we'll just fuck each other', a fake dating au where they try to make Komi jealous (or something, Idk), the adorable fanart of them being tsunderes for each other. Does any of it have even a smidge of canon? ABSOLUTELY NOT; but it's still fun to imagine

Would you ever make Kids for Jaune and his male ships? Like a rwbaby for Jaune x Ren or Jaune x Oscar or Jaune x Whitley?(I think that's the all the ones you do).

so for male ships theres, Ren, Oscar, Whitley, Scarlet, Lewis (Aged Up cuz he'd have stayed in the ever after with Jaune) there's also Tortuga who I made a pretty boy.

I find myself debating this every time I think of fun gay ships.

Giraffe's Eye View | Spy x Family REVIEW (Kind of)

Hello there people of today and robots of tomorrow! It's me, Clark, here with another rambling collection of my opinions. When last I did this it was in regards to Komi Can't Communicate, my favorite anime that actually originates in Japan. I have since watched all of Season 2 of the show, which amplified the adorable factor with all the times Komi had full conversations with Tadano. Seriously, my heart melted knowing whenever I saw her overcome her phobia. That said, Season 2 had by far the worst moment on the show, one I saw coming thanks to the manga. While on a school trip to Kyoto, Stalker McGee (Amai Ren to the people who somehow like her) plans to gaze upon Komi's breasts when they the girls have to share a bath house together. I was already annoyed by how Agari's seemingly gigantic boobs were once again acting as the butt of the joke, so seeing Stalker salivate at the idea of touching Komi's boobs made me physically uncomfortable. Heck, considering how much of a psychotic pervert she is, I'm surprised she even asked. To top it off, the next episode has Komi interacting with two very sweet students that I wish the show would focus on more. One's a busy body named Katou Mikuni and her yo-yo loving friend is called Sasaki Ayami. They treat Komi to a fun day at totally not Universal Studios Japan, never once trying to grope their new friend. Why this series puts so much focus on Stalker McGee as apposed to any of these characters is a mystery to me, but following this episode I pretty much fast forwarded through every scene she was in. Their White Day episode took place on Friday the 13th, leading me to hope Jason Voorhees could show up and shut this creep up! No such luck.

The one time this guy doesn't wanna introduce a horny teenage idiot to his machete, unbelievable! And no, I don't actually wish horrible things upon this character, I just wish she'd go away!

Needless to say I was feeling pretty annoyed when I decided to check out another anime that had been gaining popularity ever since it started streaming on Hulu.

Every where I turn on the Internet there's clip compilations of Anya being cute or inappropriate fan art of Yor on deviantART, and of course none of my friends on Discord will shut up about this show. Being the fan of the found family trope myself, I finally caved in and gave it a watch myself.

The show centers around Michael Weston, a recently burned spy who's forced back to his hometown of Miami, Florida due to unforeseen circumstances. There he's joined by retired Navy Seal Sam Axe, ex-girlfriend and explosives genius Fiona Glenanne, and even his mother, who all help Michael clear his name over the course of eight seasons.

No wait, I'm thinking of a different spy show.

It's called Burn Notice and all of you should totally watch it! If the compelling ongoing story of what happened to Michael doesn't draw you in, the promise of eight seasons worth of Bruce Campbell should!

Back to the show we were talking about, it centers around a super-spy known only as Twilight!

Out there is a universe where this guy has the codename Agent Rainbow Dash. In this universe Twilight / Loid Forger is tasked with stopping a war between two countries. How do they intend on him doing that? By turning him into a family man of course! In order to prevent war Loid has to deal with a man named Donovan Desmond, who only appears at social gatherings held at his son's super-elite school. Twilight accepts, adopting the most adorable little girl known as Anya, not knowing that the pink-haired cutie can read minds.

Anya uses her Professor X style powers to get out of a lot of scrapes, such as reading her potential new dad's mind in order complete a crossword puzzle. This convinces the super spy of the girl's intelligence, being the fifth person to adopt the poor little girl. Given how utterly depressing Anya's backstory is, rooting for her proves to be no problem, even when she does act somewhat bratty. If nothing else this show does a terrific job showing how unpredictable children are. She's never a little devil in disguise, nor is she a fallen angel. She's just a decent kid who loves peanuts, penguins, and anime. She also hates carrots and wishes bakery sold bacon. Heck, I'm with Anya on that last one, why don't bakeries sell bacon!?

She also figures out pretty easily that Loid is a spy, a factor she loves considering her favorite show is all about spies.

Her excitement only grows when she meets her new mother, an assassin known as Thorn Princess/ Yor Forger.

Behold, the subject of so much fanart online! I kid but honestly Yor's the most likable character on the show. Despite her night job as an assassin, she tries to be as good a mother to Anya she can be. She's nurturing, supportive, and kicks the ever-loving crap out of anybody who'd dare harm her baby. Yor Forger has the best Momma Bear Mode in all of freak'n fiction.

Along with her relationship with Anya, Yor's relationship with Loid is pretty sweet too. Like so many rom coms, the two get together under contrived circumstances. The school Anya needs to enroll in excludes single parents for whatever reasons, meaning Loid needs a mate in order to achieve world peace. Meanwhile Anya needs a cover up to her assassin job, plus she doesn't want her somewhat creepy brother Loid to find out she was lying about having a boyfriend. The two find each other with Anya's help, forming a fake bond with some very real at its center, regardless of whether or not they want to admit it. Yor gives Twilight the best advice she can, Twilight tries to navigate Yor out of awkward situations, and both act as protective parental units for Anya. A good example of this comes during Anya's entrance exam, one obnoxiously rude headmaster asking Anya if she prefers her new mom or her old one. With tears dripping down their baby's face, you can believe that Yor or Loid would've killed this pompous ass-wipe for saying something so cruel.

Luckily Anya is accepted, which is only half the battle. From there she has to contend with homework and Desmond's second son Damian. If my exposure to the DC Universe has taught me anything, it's that spoiled rich sons called Damian are the biggest brats of them all. While this Damian never gets his butt handed to him by the Ninja Turtles, Anya more than picks up the slack due to training from her mom.

As someone who was bullied extensively when he was younger, scenes like this always feel like karma finally being fulfilled. Unfortunately that's the one kid in school Anya has to befriend. And despite the weird feeling in his heart whenever he's around her, Damian refuses to play ball. Unlike Becky, the daughter of a military contractor who immediately forms a friendship with the Forger kid. Honestly it's so nice when anything good happens to Anya, considering this is the first time a family hasn't returned her. Seeing how all the Forgers help support each other despite continued claims that they're a 'fake family' is beyond heart-warming. It's easy to see why everybody's addicted to this show.

However, that brings me to a major problem. Not with the show mind you, but with Hulu. Back with my Princess Mononoke review I made a big stink about subs vs dubs, rambling on about why I prefer dubbing over subtitles. It all boiled down to me not wanting to read anything at the bottom of the screen when my full attention should go to the bigger picture as a whole. This wasn't a problem with Spy x Family, their first 12 episodes dubbed over. Then came episode 13 and all of a sudden every other episode was subbed. The heck? What happened to the dubs?

My friend Alec explained there are dubs for the rest of Season 1, all of them locked behind a paywall on Crunchyroll. Anybody who's about to type how I should join their premium service can stop right now. I'm addicted to four animes out a billion. Why would I sign up for a service I'd rarely use? Bad as I am with saving money, I ain't that financially foolish. Now I tried to watch the version with subtitles, but I realized how that wasn't gonna fly when a scene with multiple people talking at once played out. Yeah, nope. So for now I have to track down the mangas while waiting for Hulu to get the rest of Season 1. This is really a bummer considering I know who was joining the family come the later half of the season...

What a freak'n tease! For now though, I can confidently say that Spy X Family is fun for the whole family! Grab yourself a bag of peanuts and go check it out for yourself.

Fic Under the Cut

Najimi looked at themselves in the mirror, eyes filled with worry as they saw their form flicker again in the mirror, over and over again rapidly, until they faded into a slight transparency instead. They were dressed in a purple t-shirt with a white sweaters underneath, a scarf around their neck, horns, a tail, and some ripped jeans. The only thing that nobody would know, however, was that the horns and tail weren’t fake. They were real. Najimi Osana, well… Najimi themselves didn’t even know what they were. They were… a ghost. They sighed. “I don’t have much time, do I?” they mumbled to themselves as they watched their form shift from transparent to invisible to solid once more. “Ugh, I knew that lady from that weird spirit ship thing was right. Ghosts really do… disappear once they complete their regrets, don’t they?” they said regretfully, jumping when they heard a knock at the door. They smiled a little, fake smile before putting a hand on the doorknob, recoiling at even how physically touching objects burned, before finally swallowing their fear, shakily putting their left foot forward and stepping through the door, going to the front and opening the door best they could without touching it. “Oh! Hey Tadano! Hey Komi!” they said with a fake happy tone, bouncing around. “What’cha here for?” they said again, fiddling with their fingers as they racked their brain for anything that could've possibly been happening for them to show up.

Tadano smiled nonchalantly. “Me and Komi are here to help you prepare for that Halloween party you said you were gonna host, remember?” he said, stepping inside. Najimi mentally cursed themselves for forgetting about it, and for scheduling it on Halloween night, when they were at their weakest. “Are you alright?” Tadano asked, noticing the smaller student’s stunned expression. He put his hand on their shoulder, surprised when they jumped back, holding their shoulder as if it burned, before looking back up, pretending like everything was alright. “Aha, I’m fine! Come in, come in!”  they said, guiding them to the living room. The house was… surprisingly clean Tadano noted. “I’ll-uh-go make us some tea! Yeah!” Najimi said, tail swinging behind them as they exited the room, Tadano nodding along as they spoke. “Let’s get started, shall we, Komi?” he asked, momentarily forgetting she was there. Komi nodded enthusiastically before picking up a pumpkin, carved to look like a cat, and setting it on the coffee table nearby. “I’ll hang the decorations, and you can take care of everything on the floor. Alright?” Tadano said, and with a nod of confirmation from Komi, he got started, grabbing a stool nearby and shifting the coffee table so it wasn’t under the fan, shifting the stool over, grabbing some garlands, and getting to work, hanging the garlands on the still fan.

With Najimi

Najimi exited the room, wobbling as soon as they were out of sight and crashing into the wall, hanging onto it for support as they tottered into the kitchen.

“I’ll hang the decorations, and you can take care of everything on the floor. Alright?” they heard Tadano say in the other room. Najimi shook their head, slightly clearing the fog in their mind as they staggered over to the stove, pouring some water into the teapot, closing it, and beginning to carry it over to the stove, humming as they went along. “Baby shark doo doo doo doo doo, baby shark doo doo doo doo doo, baby shark doo doo doo doo doo bab-” They got cut off by them flickering, the teapot going through their hands and nearly crashing onto the floor before they dropped down to the ground and caught it, heaving a sigh of relief as they put it on the stove, waiting for it to boil. Immediately, their back started throbbing in pain, making them bite the inside of their cheek to keep from screaming, the metallic taste of blood flooding their mouth as they slammed into the counter, letting out a soft scream, quickly stopped when they slapped a hand on their mouth as wings tore out of their back, splitting the skin in painful ways as they grabbed a hand towel and bit down onto it tightly. When it was over, they looked at their new… appendages, walked over to the counter, grabbing a first-aid kit, and began bandaging the areas around their new, small black wings. Once they finished, they prepared the rest of the tea and set it on a dish, going to their room and changing their shirt, replacing the bloody ones with clean ones, hiding them under the purple hoodie they slipped on, and went back to the kitchen, wincing at the pain walking created, their wings being jostled under the hoodie fabric, grabbing the dish with the teacups on it and wincing again at the pain touching physical objects cost them.

They went to the living room, where Tadano and Komi were already sitting down, finished with their work and chatting, although stopping when they saw Najimi. Najimi sat down and began passing out cups, trying their best to keep from showing how much pain it caused them. “Thanks, Najimi!” Tadano said, obviously worried about the purple-haired troublemaker as they received the cup with a small smile. “A-are you okay?” he asked them, worried. Najimi stared down at the table, disconnected from reality. ‘How long will I have left?’ they thought. ‘Will I disappear in the middle of the day?? When I’m sleeping?? What if I do before I can tell Tadano..? Or Komi??’ they thought worriedly. “Najimi? Najimi??” Tadano asked worriedly, standing up and bending down over them. “Najimi, are you okay??” he said whilst waving a hand in front of their eyes. Najimi blinked and snapped back to reality, a smile forming on their face. “Oh-sorry-uh-could you please repeat that, aha..” they said as happily as they could, with a smile that was most definitely not totally a fake smile? Tadano sighed with fake exasperation. “I said, are yo-” he was cut off by the doorbell ringing, making them all jump. “Oh, I’ll go get that.” Tadano said before exiting the room, coming back a few minutes later with their whole class. Yamai and Nakanaka were fighting about something, but both stopped as they saw Komi, going over to sit by her, and began chatting. Onemine and Otori came in next. “Looook! I foooollllowed you heeeere the whole way!” Otori announced, earning a small laugh from Onemine. “Kaede, you came with us again, remember?” she said, the two going to sit on the couch behind Najimi. Najimi smiled before silently walking into the kitchen and grabbing a tray of drinks, glad the pain had dulled… at least a little, before carrying it out to everyone, who cheered and all grabbed a drink. Najimi smiled, holding their drink up. “A toast! TO Halloween!” they said, a voice crack interrupting them, which made everyone laugh, and toasted. Eventually, they all found their respective groups and began chatting. Najimi began to walk back to the kitchen before overhearing something from one of them; the group was Shinobino, Shigeo, and Taisei. The three idiots. Shigeo spoke first. “Isn’t it amazing how Najimi survived that accident? They got hit by a car , head-on!” he said. Something clattered to the floor, surprising Najimi before they realized they had dropped the plastic plate the drinks were on. Everyone was staring at them. Normally, they would laugh and make a joke about it, but not now. They took a shaky step backward before sprinting out of the room, rushing into their bedroom and slamming the door shut, leaving a silent, awkward atmosphere back where they were. Tadano stood up quickly, rushing after them.

With Najimi (Again)

Najimi curled up in a ball in their room, their new wings acting crazy, tearing through the back of their shirt, broken and bloody as Najimi screamed into a pillow, flickering and obviously transparent. They jumped when a knock came from the door, covering their face with a pillow when the door opened. They didn’t want people to find out… but they did, all at the same time. They peeked out to see who it was, hiding their face again once they knew who it was. It was Tadano. Tadano stepped into the room, over all the things on the floor that were covering it, and knelt next to the shivering, sobbing, curled-up student who had their… wings flared out, giving them a small, awkward hug without touching their wings. “I-I don’t know what this is, but it’s alright. It’s fine. Just.. breathe. In. Out.” he said rhythmically, dramatizing his breaths loudly until Najimi’s breaths matched his. Finally, he spoke again, making Najimi jump. “Wh-what is… this…?” he breathed out. Najimi took in a deep breath, steeling themselves to tell them. Rip it off like a bandaid. They didn’t like band-aids, even though they had quite a bit of them from various scrapes. “I’m a ghost.” they blurted out, before slapping a hand over their mouth in horror, looking at Tadano. Tadano looked at them, before letting out an awkward laugh and staring at them. “No, you’re right here!” he practically screamed, the laughter in the background fading as they heard Tadano’s scream, as Tadano focused on Najimi as if he thought they would disappear at any moment. Najimi sighed. “I am a ghost,” they said as they let their physical form go, going practically transparent. “D-do you remember the car crash that day?” they said, looking at Tadano, who nodded. He remembered it clearly. He should’ve stopped Najimi from going out into the road-from getting hit head-on by that car-from getting hi- Najimi put a hand on his shoulder, reassuring him even though it burned to touch him. “I-I didn’t survive. I died… but I still somehow stayed alive.” they said. Tadano’s mind raced. How could this happen to Najimi?? It was all his fault-all his fault-allhisfaultallhisfault. As if reading his thoughts, Najimi spoke again. “It’s not your fault. I talked to some people-ghosts-and they said it was my time to die, b-but they can’t figure out when I’ll disappear. It’s like I’m stuck, between the living world and the afterlife. I-it’s painful, Tadano…” they said the last few words softly, looking down at the ground as their wings inadvertently tented around them, hiding them from the world. Tadano spoke, in a lower tone, lower and softer than Najimi had ever heard as he carefully parted the curtain of black, broken feathers and bones around Najimi. “Why haven’t you told anyone? We could help you with th-” he was cut off by Najimi. “You can’t. I’m slowly disappearing. I might go on to the afterlife, I might not. I might even just… be gone. It’s getting harder to stay here-harder to keep my physical form around my friends, and I’m even developing more… spirit-like traits… like these.” they gestured to their wings and tail, their tail up in a question mark formation. Tadano stayed there, shocked. “Do you want to tell anyone? Komi, maybe? Or Nakanaka? Yamai?” he said, listing off names. Najimi shook their head. “You can tell Komi, b-but… I want to tell everyone else myself.” they said. “You’re the first to find out about… this…” they mumbled the last few words softly. Tadano smiled. “Of course. You don’t have to tell them until you’re ready. Do you want to get back to the party?” he said, pulling himself down into more of a sitting position as Najimi sat up. “No… can we just… stay here?” Najimi asked, already comfortable being transparent. It was more comfortable than trying to keep their physical form in check. Tadano nodded before tackling them in a hug. Najimi grinned. It felt so nice… warm… not painful like it was earlier. They loved this moment. They didn’t want to let it go, wanted to stay like this forever, even with this… pain from staying here, in the mortal world. “Just for a little longer… let me stay like this, Kamisama.”

As promised last month, I’m going to use this post to delve into my top 10 anime of 2022. It ended up being long and I can tell that I’m not going to be able to do much about that without really cutting more details out and I’ve already tried to make it shorter so I’m just going to put it under a cut instead. Before the list, here are some honorable mentions: Summer Time Rendering, Delicious Party Precure, and Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch from Mercury. Really, GWitch should be on the list but I’m still traumatised from the disappointment that was the second half of Ranking of Kings so I’m being cautious. It’ll probably end up on next year’s list if all goes well with the second half.

10. Raven of the Inner Palace - I watched this one shortly after it finished airing and was very impressed. The story was really interesting and engaging, the characters were charming and I loved watching them grow, and the lore was fascinating. The only major issue is that it does end of a somewhat incomplete note. It feels like it wraps up Shoxue’s character arc satisfyingly but it’s clear that there’s more story to come. I definitely would be interested in reading the novels but I’d struggle a bit with some of terminology in Japanese so if I did read it, it would be in English.

9. Shadow House 2nd Season - The first season just missed out on being one of my faves of 2021 so I was pleased that it got another chance so soon and it more than earned it’s place on my top 2022 list. The plot of season 2 was consistently engaging and I appreciated the focus on characters like Rosemary/Maryrose and Barbie/Barbara who I was interested in from the first season. I hope we get more but I know I’m going to be reading the manga when I can either way.

8. Love Live! Superstar!! Season 2 - While I didn’t like the second season of Superstar quite as much as the first, I did still really enjoy my time with it. I was a bit iffy on the new characters at first but they did grow on me by the second half and I was able to enjoy it a lot better. I think the best part of this season is the introduction of Wein. She’s got such a cool character design and a lovely voice and her performances were so good. I was also incredibly fond of the episode about Ren’s gaming addiction. I was initially annoyed about the ending but now I just can’t wait to spend more time with these characters and see what’s in store for season 3.

7. Bocchi the Rock! - There were three things that stood out to me while watching this anime: the music, the visual gags, and the representation of anxiety. The music was great and the visual gags were hilarious and I really related to Bocchi. Aside from the relability, I also really liked that Bocchi was allowed to grow throughout the twelve episodes. Compared to something Komi Can’t Communicate, which I do like but it has flaws of course, where it’s been 2 seasons and Komi still can barely string together a sentence, it was nice to see Bocchi actually grow and be able to talk to others in ways that she couldn’t have imagined at the beginning. I really appreciated that. I think I will rewatch this one in the future as I wasn’t in the best of moods when I did watch it but I still enjoyed it and I really hope we get more.

6. Spy x Family - I don’t know that I have anything to say about this show that hasn’t already been said. It’s fun show and I enjoyed watching it every week, though there were a few dull moments. I enjoyed seeing the family grow and it’s such a good-looking show. I can’t wait for more.

5. Sasaki and Miyano - Sometimes a simple romcom is all you need. I’ve been a fan of the Sasaki and Miyano manga for years and I was so excited for the anime adaptation. While I was a bit wary of the adaptation choices at the start - like the awkward character designs and anatomy and the random cut-aways to cats doing stuff, it melted my heart by the end and became such a joy to watch. I loved seeing these two characters fall in love with each other week by week. It was just so sweet.

4. Lycoris Recoil - This anime was such a blast to watch each week and to look at all the new fanart of the characters and the ships. The animation was superb and I loved the characters and watching them and their relationships develop. I know a lot of people were disappointed that the story didn’t challenge it’s own flawed premise but I think it was satisfying as a story about Chisato and Takina and I appreciated it for that, though I do wish we had gotten more from characters like Fuki and Mizuki. I know we’re getting a sequel and I’m cautiously optimistic about it.

3. The Case Study of Vanitas: Part II - I enjoyed the first half of Vanitas well enough but Part II really surpassed my expectations. I was so invested in the story and the characters and it was such a pleasure to watch each week. I hope we get more of the anime at some stage.

2. Kaguya-sama: Love is War - Ultraromantic - To be honest, I wasn’t massive fan of the first two seasons of Kaguya-sama. It had some great visual gags but I wasn’t attached to the characters or anything and a lot of the gags fell flat for me. And then Ultraromantic came along and I finally fell in love with it. Each episode was hilarious and I was surprised by how invested I was in the romance aspect. I loved all the visual gags and this one stands out as being one of the most memorable anime that I watched last year. I can easily recall several scenes and that’s not something that I can say about most of the shows on this list. So I guess Kaguya-sama won this game.

1. The Orbital Children - This was one of those series that reminded me of how much I love sci-fi. There were so many interesting ideas and details. The plot was gripping and the characters were so much fun, especially Mina. I do think it got a bit convoluted at the end there but I still really enjoyed it and it ended up being my favourite anime of last year.
