My friend dropped the most galaxy brained star trek take on me while I was in the middle of the grocery store. I had to physically stop and breathe so I wouldn't start laughing like a maniac.

How would you react if someone invented a real "replicator", a device from the Star-Trek series that can produce anything instantly?
Maybe you'd be excited that you could finally get that guitar... or just having healthy food instantly without the cost of buying and cooking.... Then you realize that you could cut your work hours dramatically since any physical things you need you can just create instantly. But even more, this would be true for everyone! And not just here, in our affluent region, but anywhere. World hunger would be over. Lack of medicines would be over. Physical scarcity would essentially be over. As long as you have access to power, you can run this device. (And the device can help make things like solar panels and even more replicators!) In short, everyone will have all their physical needs met. It's a dawn of a new age. Perhaps still not a utopia, but much closer to one.
Seems pretty great. Some people are already cheering and popping the replicator-made champagne... however, others aren't so happy.
"But what about my pizza business?!" asks one guy. "This device will put me out of business! And you know what else, I don't like the implication that this machine can conjure a pizza that's as good as mine! But it won't matter, bc if people can get pizza for free, they're not going to pay me for my pizza! So this stupid device will put me out of a job!"
So the dude starts complaining: "Its products aren't as good as the real thing." And "you know, it uses a ton of energy to run." "What will this do to the moral foundation of work ethics and people's self-esteem?!" "You know, I hear our enemies are using this technology, so it can't be good!" And so the dude builds up a following of people who are anti-replicator. This movement grows and takes hold and manages to end the production of replicators. Everyone goes back to work the next day. The pizza maker is still in business - and lots of people still lack pizza, guitars, medicines, and the rest.

Looks like these are the last of my Destiny art that I have, they were drawn a good while ago. Definitely 2020 if not 2019. They were just early concepts but regardless even today they still apply to Nova, Azazel, and Adam-17.
Warlock: Initially called Duskblade (now Willstealer), this Darkness subclass commands the power of the Taken. The Super acts like a dark version of Daybreak, with the ability to fire out slashes from the sword, but also allows the ability to fire Axion Bolts from the free hand an even slam into the ground to deal heavy damage.
Hunter: Initially called Venomstrafer (now Venomstalker, or Wraith), this Darkness subclass harnesses the power of Hive soulfire and its toxic effects. The Super involves wielding corrosive blades that can be thrown and will boomerang back to you, or can be used to slash away at combatants, spreading noxious poison through the enemy.
Titan: Lazily initially called SIVA (now more appropriately renamed to Replicator), this Darkness subclass combines the power of SIVA with Guardians' paracausality. The Super involves wielding a nanite-forged battle axe, which can then be used to spread more nanites across the field to aid you in battle.
I have since refined the 3 subclasses (and even added 2 more SIVA-based subclasses for the Warlock & Hunter, + a Nightmare subclass for Titan), but I'll show those off whenever I get around to them :)

How would someone order a banana from a replicator (besides hot)? Like do you describe the color of ripeness? Is there a ripeness scale 1-10? Inquiring minds need to know

this thread is honestly a fascinating microcosm of our evolving relationship with AI over the last five years. the earlier posts reveal a pre-genAI slop world - a certain naivety - while our collective cynicism concerning this sort of technology creeps into the later posts.
i think everyone's sorta sidestepping one of the real issues here - in that it's not just Starfleet folk would be consuming base approximations of food - they'd be doing so via base approximations of their own bodies.
not only would their food be 'not quite right' - they themselves wouldn't be either. once you've had your atoms rearranged/reconstructed by the teleporters you're not even really you anymore - just a vague fuzzy shadow of yourself.
after many hundreds of these teleporter transits - you're now - on a molecular level - basically a memory of an approximation of a file of your original body. even if you ate your abuela's own tamales they wouldn't taste like home either cuz your mouth isn't even close to its original anymore!
they're all just ghosts who can't possibly ever hope to return home again.
As a side note… I am really annoyed by one thing about Star Trek.
“Replicated food is not as good as real food.”
That’s ridiculous.  In Star Trek, replicator technology is part of the same tech tree as transporters.  Replicated food would be identical to the food it was based on, down to the subatomic level.

Review - Replicator (2024)
Replicator, comes with a wonderfully comic book styled poster, a title that makes you think of From Beyond's Resonator, a plot that recalls Invasion of the Body Snatchers and lots of practical effects.

Replicator: Trash Turns into Treasure! ALLATRA AHEAD!!
Tumblr media
Imagine a world where trash is not a problem, but a valuable resource. A world where unwanted things don't pollute the environment, but are transformed into new, useful items. Such a world will become reality with the advent of the replicator and utilizer - a technology that revolutionizes our relationship with waste.
Tumblr media
(Pictured: Scenes from the film REPLICATOR)
How does the replicator work? The secret lies in the utilizer - a device capable of disassembling any object into elementary particles. These particles are then used by the replicator to create new items. Goodbye, landfills! We will be able to recycle everything: from old clothes to broken phones, from plastic bottles to dust.
Tumblr media
(Pictured: Scenes from the film REPLICATOR)
It's important to understand that elementary particles don't "remember" their former appearance. They have no smell or harmful properties of the previous object. They are simply "building blocks" from which any new things can be created.
But the replicator cannot create a living being. It cannot "print" a dog, a cat, or even a fly. The replicator only reproduces inanimate objects made of elementary particles.
This means that we will have unlimited access to delicious and healthy food! There will be no need to kill animals for meat. The replicator will be able to create any dish from elementary particles.
But the replicator is not just a revolution in nutrition. It is a change in our entire way of life. With the help of the replicator, we will be able to create beautiful clothes, furniture, toys, and many other things.
In the Creative Society, every person will have access to the replicator. This means that everyone will be clothed, fed, and able to live in comfort and abundance. Farewell, poverty and hunger!
Learn more about the REPLICATOR technology on the YouTube channel CREATIVE SOCIETY: Global Crisis. There is a Way Out | International Online Forum. April 22, 2023 (timing: 10:31:44 Film “Replicator”)
The replicator is not just a technology, but a symbol of a new world, a world of justice, well-being, and harmony. ALLATRA and the volunteers of the Creative Society are sharing this technology with the entire world. Join us! Together, we can create a better future!
