Jon McGregor is one of those authors that writes so beautifully and poetically that every book I sit down to read from him is a treat. Reservoir 13 is another example of literary fiction at its finest with sweeping, descriptive prose and a wonderfully weaved narrative told over thirteen years. ⁣ ⁣ As the novel opens, we are aware that a young girl has gone missing - Rebecca, Becky or Bex, however she was known. Search parties and the police swarm the area, posters are put up and the quiet country town is a hotbed of media interest. However, she is never recovered and although a group of teenagers may know more than they are letting on, life goes on. ⁣ ⁣ The novel then follows the community over the next thirteen years as life unfolds for the other inhabitants as normal. Babies are born, there are secrets and betrayals, relationships form and break up and each New Year, fireworks go off. Rebecca’s disappearance still continues to haunt the small town and those that live there with no real answers for her traumatised family over what happened to her. ⁣ ⁣ This is definitely a book that would benefit from a re-read. Hello everyone and hope you’re doing well. Today I’m sharing what I’m #currentlyreading (as always, a LOT) because clearly I enjoy a challenge! 🤣 On my Kindle I’m reading three things - Dead Head by @ceejayismeeejay the third book in the Sweetpea series which I’m buddy reading with the lovely @booksta.gem Then I’m also buddy reading Before Her Eyes by Jack Jordan with @buddyreadbooknook Our group read Do No Harm recently by the author and loved it so instantly wanted to read more! Finally on my Kindle I’m buddy reading Fugitive Pieces by Anne Michaels. This was the second ever winner of the @womensprize or the Orange prize as it was back then. Pictured book sleeve from @paperandword My audiobook listen is The Opposite Of Butterfly Hunting: The Tragedy and the Glory of Growing Up by Evanna Lynch (the actress played Luna Lovegood in the Harry Potter movies). I’m also continuing to make my way through Light Rains with Mr B which we’re reading together up until Feb 2023. Onto the books pictured! 😂 I’m just starting Reservoir 13 by Jon McGregor. One of my favourite authors do can’t wait for this. I’m finishing up Jude The Obscure with #thegreatthomashardyreadalong2022 it’s been both heartbreaking 💔 and epic! Voyager by Diana Gabaldon is the third book in the Outlander series and I’m about 150 pages in. My current re-read is Life After Life by Kate Atkinson. I’m loving being back in Ursula’s world so much! 😍 My current nonfiction is Women Don’t Owe You Pretty by Florence Given. Nearly halfway through this and the illustrations are brilliant. Finally I have the penultimate book in the @womensprize longlist, Creatures Of Passage by Morowa Yejidé. So intrigued by this one! So that makes it 11 books I’m currently reading. Hello everyone and happy Saturday! Sorry this #stacksaturday is a bit late, it’s been quite a busy day! I’m joining in with the #birthstonebookstack which the beautiful @emmasbookishcorner tagged me in. She was inspired by the lovely @acottagefullofbooks I was born in April which makes my birthstone Diamond 💎 This was a bit of a tricky colour for me as I’ve already done a white book stack recently. So I’ve chosen to go silver/grey in the hope it still counts!
