I started a new book today! BITTER SUN by Beth Lewis - recommended to me by my good friend @thecatladybooknook How is it so far? Well, I read 82 pages in one sitting…this from a girl who usually doesn’t do much reading on the weekends! SYNOPSIS (from Amazon): It all started when we found the body. Hello everyone! Hope you’re all well. Today I’m doing two very quick reviews for the books on my #wasitworththebump challenge for June 2021. Bitter Sun was recommended by the lovely @keeperofpages and Miss Benson’s Beetle was recommended by the also lovely @emmasbookishcorner @bestbookforward and @julia.lithappens 🥰 Thank you so much to ALL of you. Bitter Sun is a staggering and emotional read about a teenage boy who finds a young woman’s body in the company of his friends and little sister. We then see his struggles with some nefarious characters in the town as they try to solve the mystery of her death as well as his own personal struggles with his troubled family. It’s heartbreaking, raw, captivating and unputdownable. Miss Benson’s Beetle follows a woman called Margery who has had a difficult upbringing but has become obsessed with a rare gold beetle she has become determined to track and catalogue for the Natural History Museum. Step forward Enid Pretty, who responds to her advert for an assistant and as they set off on an epic adventure, both their lives change forever. This was a cosy, comforting and delightful read. It warms your heart, steadies your soul, fills you with hope and is a pure, beautiful story about an unusual but unforgettable friendship. I read this as a buddy read with my gorgeous friend @tarheelreader and my reading experience was only enhanced by our discussions! 🥰 So for both of these novels, #wasitworththebump ? Yes, yes, a thousand times yes!! 📖 BOOK REVIEW 📖⁣ ⁣ Hello everyone, hope you’ve had a wonderful Wednesday. Today I’m back with a book review of The Wolf Road by Beth Lewis, highly recommended to me by the gorgeous Janel from @keeperofpages a fabulous bookstagrammer whom I’m lucky to have as a friend in real life.⁣ ⁣ Janel actually made me get to this book a lot sooner than I would have done, assuring me that it was worth it. Boy, she was so right! This book was everything I had hoped it would be - enthralling from the very first page, dark, dangerous, fast-paced and beautifully written. I couldn’t ask for anything more from a novel.⁣ ⁣ The Wolf Road tells the story of a young girl Elka, who ends up alone in the world after discovering the man who has raised her for most of her life Trapper, is not whom she thought he was. This is the tale of her journey, the people she meets along the way and the strength she builds in order to face the demons of her past.⁣ ⁣ I couldn’t recommend this book enough, not only is it a stunning piece of writing, it’s so captivating that at times I couldn’t bear to put it down. It’s a tale of revenge and redemption and is so atmospheric that it’s just a joy to read. Hello everyone, hope you’re all well. Monday is book haul day!! Hello everyone and hope your Monday has got off to a good start. Today I’m back with three new paperbacks to add to my already enormous TBR. Hi everyone, apologies for the silence over the past couple of days, I’ve been quite busy. Have had a lovely two days in London watching two shows - Back To The Future the Musical and Pretty Woman the musical. Today I’m sharing what should have been my #stacksaturday post and it’s inspired by the Great British Bake Off and jammie dodgers 😋 Thank you to the lovely @smeets_x for tagging me in it! Now I didn’t actually have any jammie dodgers or biscuits close to hand but if you can forgive me for that, I’ve represented the colours of a jammie dodger and a sweet smelling candle - spiced vanilla and sandalwood. Hello everyone! Hope you’ve had a lovely Sunday and a relaxing weekend 😌 Today I’m bringing my bookshelf tour back. Swipe to see the second image! Last time I shared it was a pic of the back of this shelf and I’m here to admit right now that when required, I do double stack. Hey, when you buy as many books as I do, double stacking is a necessity! 🤣 Sure I’d love to be able to see all my books but I’d need another bookshelf or two and I just don’t have the room right now! Anyway, this is the front of my bottom shelf of my pine bookshelf which is my third one in my little library. Authors are arranged alphabetically and this shelf boasts authors with surnames from K to L. The Wolf Road is one of my favourites but I actually don’t have any room on my favourites shelf right now 🙈 so it’s staying in alphabetical order for a little while. From that stack I’m also eagerly anticipating Bitter and Blood Wedding. The second stack excites me even more, I’m chomping at the bit to read Miss Benson’s Beetle, Watch Her Fall, Ask Again, Yes and The Changeling in particular.
