The article "What Is an ACOG?" by Will Dabbs, MD, published on July 10, 2024, on The Armory Life, provides an in-depth overview of the Advanced Combat Optical Gunsight (ACOG) developed by Trijicon. Introduced in 1987, the ACOG revolutionized tactical optics with its prismatic telescopic design, initially created for the M16 and M4 rifles, featuring a fixed 4x32 magnification in its earliest TA01 model. The sight was designed to be nearly indestructible and included innovations like tritium illumination for low-light conditions, although these elements have a lifespan of about 10-15 years. The versatility of the ACOG, which includes variations such as bullet drop compensating reticles and models integrating micro red dots, has made it a favorite among military personnel in various combat situations. Dabbs shares personal reflections on the ACOG's performance, highlighting its precision and effectiveness at various ranges, exemplified by his experience using an early TA01 model. Despite its high cost—ranging from about $1,200 to $2,485—the quality and reliability of the ACOG continue to make it a sought-after device for tactical use.

Can you make a boothill x wanted reader
Who hade a bounty on 10B and no one knows who she was or how she looks like for she hade never been seen before and she was stealing all the time and in a good way?
"catch me if you can" - boothill x reader
✧ ✧ ✧
the bounty on your head was the kind that turned heads, loosened lips, and made even the greediest bounty hunters rethink their odds.
ten billion credits.
enough to buy a fleet, a planet, a new identity... if only anyone knew what you actually looked like. but anonymity had been your greatest trick, the card up your sleeve that kept you ahead of everyone else.
it was almost amusing, the way every lowlife and lawman scrambled in the dark for a ghost. you left no patterns, no lingering traces except for the gaping hole you’d torn in the interastral peace corporation’s pockets. a little redistribution of wealth, a little chaos in their well-oiled machine. they called it theft. you called it balance.
but boothill? oh, boothill was different.
you heard the spurs before you saw him, the steady metallic jingle cutting through the usual background noise. the scent of gunpowder clung to him, even in the artificial climate of penacony's dreamscape. he strode in like he owned the place, like he owned the stars themselves.
a pair of grey eyes rimmed in black, pupils shaped like reticles, locked onto you as if he could see through the layers of deception you’d built around yourself. he was grinning, all sharp teeth and reckless intent, the kind of man who courted danger and waltzed with death just to see who led better.
"well, i’ll be darned," he drawled, voice slick as oil, smooth as a spent shell casing.
"ain’t every day i get the honor of sittin' across from a ten billion credit mystery."
your fingers twitched toward the hidden weapon at your side, but you forced them still. this was uncharted territory. no one had ever gotten this close, let alone looked at you like you were already halfway caught.
boothill leaned against the bar, tapping his gloved fingers on the counter like he had all the time in the galaxy. "now, don’t go lookin' so spooked, sugar. i ain’t here to turn you in."
a pause. then, that grin widened. "if i was, you’d already be hogtied 'n' halfway to pickin' up dust in an ipc cell."
you exhaled slowly, feigning nonchalance as you raised your drink to your lips. "then what do you want?"
boothill tilted his head, watching you with the kind of curiosity that felt more dangerous than any bounty hunter's rifle.
"somethin' worth rememberin'. figure you might be the only one in this shirthole who can give me that."
he wanted a thrill. the same thing you’d been chasing every time you slipped through the cracks of the ipc’s grasp.
your lips quirked upward. "you think you can keep up?"
his laughter was like a gunshot. loud, abrupt, and full of the promise of something explosive. "darlin', i sure aim to try."
boothill gestured to the bartender, ordering something strong enough to burn on the way down.
"way i see it, there’s two kinds of legends in this here galaxy: the ones who shine bright and the ones who burn out. which one you reckon you are?"
you swirled the dregs of your drink, considering. "maybe i’m neither."
"now that," boothill leaned in, voice dipping lower, "sounds like a challenge."
the space between you wasn’t much, but it felt like a standoff all the same. the way he looked at you, all interest and mischief and just a little too much knowing, made it clear. he wanted in on the myth of you. maybe to unravel it, maybe just to see if you’d let him get close enough to try.
"tell you what," he went on, tipping his hat up just slightly, "how 'bout we make this interestin'? if you ever feel like makin' some real trouble…" he pulled something from his belt and slid it across the counter.
a single bullet, its casing etched with some kind of insignia. "you give me a holler."
you picked up the bullet, rolling it between your fingers. heavy. real. a promise of something yet to come.
boothill finished his drink and stood, dusting off his coat with a lazy grin. and with that, he walked out, spurs jingling, leaving behind the scent of gunpowder and the taste of something dangerously close to intrigue.
you looked down at the bullet in your palm and smiled. maybe, just maybe, you'd let him catch up someday.

I don't know if you pay attention to any DR collabs, but I thought you'd appreciate this one! Particularly the amount of detail to Komaeda: the corrupted halo with the symbol on his shirt in it, the single horn, the chain....I'm so obsessed with this collab and its implications are making my head spin in a good way
I don’t particularly look into collabs often (my attention is everywhere), but this does have a lot of interesting choices! It plays well into Komahina’s similarities and differences. They’re already have religious-like undertones inside sdr2 anyway because of what Hope’s Peak Academy was to them. Izuru Kamukura’s name could be read as “exiled from the throne of gods” if I remember correctly, like a god thats unbelonging to the realm of mortals.
Though, I think the wiki decided to read his name divided. So instead they see it like his individual characteristics. Out of place compared to normal people and the vessel for a “god” or power that’s godlike.
My heart burns seeing that Hinata is not an angel like the other protagonists. Akamatsu is not an angel here because she had been forced into becoming a traitor in her narrative and the first killer, but for Hinata, this is about his position as the unchosen by god (HPA). However, he worships its image no matter how its ideals view “scum” like him. So he has a priest stole on his design as a demon trying to redeem himself.
Komaeda…. I’ve always had trouble with that symbol on his shirt as it’s meant to be shifty looking but that’s about it. But now that I’m looking at it here, I guess it would make sense to see it as a bastardized reticle as I compare it to the other protagonists halos. Like how his views are focused but in the wrong aspects. Or I’m just looking too much into it haha! It doesn’t matter, the point of him being a corrupt angel is because of his close following to a fundamentally corrupt outlook that’s impassive to an extreme.
Or hmm… I guess the collab planners were more so thinking along the lines of his soft demeanor Vs his harsh views that are unforgiving, even against himself. His death is obviously one of a “selfless martyr”, even if it’s purpose was not for anyone but his own sake (I have too much to say about the way he died). It’s his one foot in, one foot out attitude that caused him to have only one horn in this design. I couldn’t actually tell if that was a horn.
His chain reminds me of how I view its place on this design in UDG. The chain is paradoxical, just as he is. The chain to his collar binds him to the whims of hope and despair as its willing slave to the bigger picture, but is that really the case if the chain is not attached to anything? He has too much of his own will and beliefs guiding him contrary to how he believes them to be the truest fact of life that lives through him. Like Peko, how can you be a tool if the “tool” is a human being?
I think that’s all I got right now. I know I have a pattern of saying that I’m tired at the end of my posts, but I am!! I can’t help it.
#I promise the Komaeda essay does exist#I’ve just been preoccupied with a friend’s collaborative rewrite of a webnovel we despise#I’m also a slow writer when I write things on my own I become dissatisfied easily#waaaaa#danganronpa#sdr2#hajime hinata#nagito komaeda#Chiaki is a bit more ideal compared to the both of them so of course she’s the only one untainted#I really like sdr2 if you can’t tell#I saw what you said about Hinata possibly being corrupted by his beliefs as well which ahhhhhh#my heart broke

You know, I wonder -- I've been watching a lot of Elden Ring bingo videos recently, very interesting stuff, and of course soulsbornes like that are all about learning enemy attack patterns and getting the correct response inputs. (My friend @asimplecreature says it's like a conversation or a debate, in the language of combat.)
And I'm thinking... of course, I'm very much a latecomer to video games at all, I was well into my twenties before I ever picked one up, and well into my thirties before I held a controller. So I'm not confident in my combat skills, I tend to flail and hit wrong buttons through sheer lack of the requisite muscle memory.
(Anything in Breath of the Wild that requires more than two inputs at a time just doesn't stick. I still can't remember how to shield surf without looking it up every time, and I have to just stand around practicing backflips for a while every time I want to try a flurry rush. People who can actually play BotW say the flurry timings in Age of Calamity are much tighter, but I find them far easier to get because it's one button, not a friggin timed ctrl-alt-del equivalent that's also directional -- you won't get the flurry in BotW if the lock-on changed your facing direction such that you're not flipping either directly backward or directly sideways, but in AoC you can flurry in any direction including forwards.)
However! Anyway! What I'm thinking right now, because I have been playing video games for a few years and I'm definitely better at them than I think I am, but I still play as anxiously as if everything is permadeath nuzlocke etc. And of course I just picked Mass Effect back up, which was my very first video game back in the day, so I'm kind of comparing that to the games I've played since.
So I'm pondering, and what occurs to me is, I wonder how much of my playstyle is still just completely formed by the fact that my first game, and the first one I spent hundreds of hours in, was not just Mass Effect but specifically ME3 multiplayer. A great game, a co-op game, still one of the best designed co-op multiplayers I've seen and I miss it dearly (the servers are still up afaik but the shelter wifi blocks it and I have no friends to play with), but I was playing it on extremely underspecced hardware, generally off-host, with laggy internet, so I developed a playstyle that relied extremely heavily on spammable moves -- biotic charge is a big one, I don't play a vanguard in singleplayer because in singleplayer I let my squad do a lot of the work, but in multiplayer "waggle the reticle in the general direction of the enemy while spamming the biotic charge button until it locks on, rely on iframes to not get killed" has always been one of my two main strategies. (The other one is "play a geth juggernaut, let the enemies aggro on me, and drain their shields to stay alive while punching them in the face".)
So I've really just never... trained, I guess, on the kind of gaming where *precise* inputs rather than spammy ones are the way to go. (I'm absolutely crap on a stick at platformers. Every so often I pick up Kirby and the Forgotten Land again, get about five or six levels in, find out that I still just don't have the physical coordination to ever hope to 100% it, get frustrated and leave.)
(Age of Calamity rewards precise combos, there's a very high "skill ceiling" as they say, but you *can* simply barrel through with spamming and overleveling, so I generally do. Which is why I've been stopped for a while just after the point where you get four new characters at once all of whom have intensely quirky movesets that strongly reward putting in the effort to learn and use them properly. I can sort of klutz my way through a level with most of them, but I know perfectly well that in order to *enjoy* them I'm looking at probably maining each one through a run of the whole game to this point, to really figure them out.)
I don't know if I'm going anywhere with this. Do I want to try to change how I play? I don't know. The closest I've ever gotten to a soulsborne-type "git gud" challenge was definitely that one shrine in BotW's One-Hit Obliterator challenge, the one... I think it's called Stop to Start? It's full of spikes, and the conceit of the challenge is that you die if any of them touch you, and there are like five differently styled sections of obstacle course in a row and if you die on any one you get sent all the way back to the beginning of the path. So you have to develop an endlessly replicable strategy for every single fucking section, get a little farther and a little farther and die and die and die, and I *loathed* it. But I also tend to take dying in a video game as a personal affront (see also playing everything like a nuzlocke), which... presumably doesn't help? With anything?

long time running x @yeehawgust day 22: horse girl
[snippet from chapter 15]
Instead of a black-and-white morality of kindness and bloodshed on antithetical ends of a straight line, Olivia's spectrum seemed bent into a horseshoe; a crosshair with ends that almost converged, opposites closer to each other than either was to the far-off zenith of their shared iron-gray meridian.
Each time RJ found himself in the middle of this reticle and was quite certain she’d kill him, there was some concession in the form of a reward.
Though she ensured his time in the Rocky Mountains wasn’t easy, at least she had a pattern he could anticipate. Climbing up a glacier against polar winds was rewarding when she balanced his trouble with warmth. Thaw necessitated frostbite; he wanted to breathe in arctic air and allow it to freeze him from the inside out, then wake up in the relative safety of Vault 150 once again.
If Olivia surrounded Mount Fay in a radstorm to eradicate the Brotherhood, at least she allowed RJ into the tempest’s calm center. If she was a 'real wild radhorse' like Hancock said, at least she was willing to share the grasslands.
RJ scoffed at the comparison. She didn’t mind me in the pasture until Jack threw on the saddle while she was distracted.
Though it took a few days, his anger toward her subsided. Tangible memories of their time together, combined with his own sense of liability, overruled the images he conjured when Hancock divulged the truth about what happened in Goodneighbor.
There wouldn’t have been a Goodneighbor or Raiders for her to get mixed up with if he hadn't involved her in his affairs. She galloped across the continental divide, crossed the hundredth meridian and left her prairies behind to help an ailing Duncan; Boston punished her, and RJ was complicit.
He returned to Sanctuary with a report on events in north-east Boston and high hopes to make nice with Olivia.
If, in order to exact revenge on the Brotherhood, she wanted to overflow Moraine Lake with rain, then flood the world up to surface tension at the cols between the Bow Range’s summits, he wanted to wedge that heavy metal door open so she could drown everyone in the bunker.
If yellowing late-summer grass in the shadow of Boston’s skyline was a poor substitute for the verdant montane valley she left behind, maybe he could scout the Commonwealth for a meadow and pond protected by a bulwark of hills and miles of forest.
Maybe, through some cooperation of preparing for the weather and turning her loose someplace she felt accommodated, RJ could begin to make up for his latest regret - that he and Jack took advantage of her kindness; that she had no space or time to think through negotiations when she agreed to leave her beloved Rocky Mountains for the Commonwealth Wasteland.
She trusted him; he encumbered her with his many burdens.
So, RJ returned to Sanctuary, determined to ensure she never felt the heft of a saddle or a cold bit in her mouth ever again. He arrived ready to begin a long atonement for stabbing his spurs in an already frightened mare's side.
After all, it was his fault she was forced to spend all of her time running to begin with.

Entry #029.3.Supplemental.Demeter
--Recovered from the Archive of Engagements aboard the Tsiolkovan-- --Official Action Report, originally created 963.M41.-- +The Demeter Campaign:
Shargen Aurastra and newly-promoted Second Captain Samas Tenebra are called upon to mop up remaining traitor presence in the Demeter sector following the War for Pandorax, encountering a Black Legion warband styling itself “The Obsidian Blade” carving out a domain for themselves in the ravaged Avaricum system, led by former Justaerin member Vayxin the Ravager. Tenebra leads a select cadre of forces to defend a critical mechanicum outpost but is forced back by a short-lived but bloody daemon incursion summoned by Dark Apostle Kabrius on the outpost’s upper levels, at the loss of most of Squad Octavian and the company’s attached librarian. The loss atop the manufactorum buys the warband time to reactivate an old Shadowsword within the manufactorum. Determined to ensure such an asset does not make it offworld, Aurastra leads a daring assault on the manufactorum to end Vayxin and his new toy. The battle is fierce, and Aurastra is almost killed when his command vehicle takes a direct hit from the Shadowsword’s main weapon. Despite the long, storied careers of both Aurastra and Vayxin, the battle is decided by youngbloods:
Neophyte Sergeant Trazis, who despite coming under heavy fire had successfully outflanked the Shadowsword, ingressing through a hull breach in the rear to plant a meltabomb on the Volcano Cannon’s primary capacitor bank.
Savant-Initiate Hastel Glademan, who provided air support from the Stormtalon Hurricane Dragon, catching Dark Apostle Kabrius in the open and flattening his position with a barrage of cyclone missiles.
Brother Cosrau Yandin, who followed Aurastra into a direct confrontation with Vayxin the Ravager. Despite losing many battle-brothers and taking a near-fatal wound from the Ravager’s chainfist, Yandin was able to slay the warlord alone, exploiting a breach in his Terminator armour using nothing but a well-placed meltagun shot and a combat knife to Vayxin’s exposed eye.
--Unofficial Interpretation Fragment #3 of 12# (Please Confirm?), derived from tactical data logs recovered from Redeemer-Pattern Land Raider Tvashtar's Fire during subsequent restoration--
"Sable Exact, this is Tvashtar. We are coming to you." Keldek Mormys clipped over the vox channel and spurred the Land Raider forwards. The turret bustle next to him rattled and shook as the tank’s machine spirit assumed direct control of the twin assault cannons. Mormys watched the weapons' target reticles track jerkily across the pict-feed wired directly into his helmet, just one of a dozen sensor inputs feeding into the cocoon-like driver's position high in the vehicle's interior. If he hadn't been controlling the tank though direct nerve impulse, he wouldn't have needed to lift a finger more than an inch off the controls before he'd be touching the glacis plate, such was the tightness of the confines of the position. All the better to allocate space to armour, armament and passengers. In truth, given the potency of the machine spirit within Tvashtar's Fire, he was barely more than a passenger himself. The tank was an old one, with a bombastic, eager character. He could feel it every time the Land Raider’s treads dug into a rise, like a mountain goat scrambling up a spoil heap. According to the stories, it was fully capable of operating fully autonomously when circumstances were particularly dire. It was only the narrow advantages of the organic mind in pattern recognition and data processing that warranted his presence at all. That and the vox link to the battleforce command network that dispersed its constant stream of data packets in clicks and growls directly into his ears. And right now the network was alive with a hashing, maddening overlap of information, The Mechanicus outpost was a slowly growing silhouette on the horizon, a squat monolith of fortified stores and workshops. The nimbus of warplight had crackled into existence around the outpost’s summit at the exact same time the aetheric interference had started filling the vox-channels, but enough of Gygar Octavian’s final broadcast had made it through the hissing static. It was that broadcast that had spurred every Iron Fists asset on the planet to converge on the outpost.
“Captain Aurastra,” Mormys called on the tank’s internal vox. “We have uplink with reconnaissance elements. Glademan and Trazis are joining formation. We shall reach engagement range in six minutes.”
“Noted, Keldek. Maintain flank speed and mark targets as they appear. Please keep the network link open while I inform our comrades.” The captain’s tone was relaxed, as was the tone of the data packets that briefly flashed through Mormys’ perception on their way from the Land Raider’s internal systems to the other vehicles in the formation. Mormys caught a brief snippet of off-network speech in that same tone beneath him in the passenger bay. A rousing speech, no doubt. That was beneficial. Tvashtar’s Fire was used to hosting terminators, not tactical marines, and the unfamiliarity of their cargo was reflected in the machine spirit’s disposition.
Mormys reached for the panel on the communication terminal, to patch into the squad-level vox net and see if First Captain Aurastra was as good as marshalling those of another company as his own. His finger was on the switch when the Land Raider’s external sensors lit up with alarms. Mormys hammered the switch into the on-position and felt the marines in the passenger bay flinch at his interruption.
“Captain, we have a massive thermal signature reading from within the outpost.”
“More information, please, Keldek.”
Mormys strained closer to the pict-screens, flicking through view options, focusing in on the bloom of heat radiating from the lower portion of the outpost. The metres-thick shell of reinforced ferrocrete yielded precious few answers, but there was a horrible sense of familiarity that was starting to creep out of the more organic parts of Mormys’ brain.
“Uncertain, captain, but the readings align with macro-grade weaponry. Will continue to observe.”
“Understood.” There was another click as the Captain plugged directly into the Land Raider’s internal systems, his next words ringing well-beyond the confines of the tank.
“All elements, this is Shargen Aurastra. We have a potential grandis-level threat spooling up in the bowels of that outpost. Make all haste and stay vigilant. If we see it before it sees us, the advantage will be ours.”
The message was met with a flurry of confirmations from the other force elements. Mormys sent his own brief confirmation and urged Tvashtar’s Fire to go faster, eyes glued to the rattling pict-screens as the tank ground through the remnants of a walled-off courtyard and summitted the lip of a crater.
“Hurricane Dragon to Niveus Exact, this is Glademan!”
The signal spiked almost painfully through Mormys’ senses, thick with static and interference as it shot into the Land Raider’s vox network. He didn’t even hear Aurastra’s response before the signal continued, and Mormys was just about to start work on a scolding reminder about vox-procedures that the pilots of the Fifth Company were in clear need of, before the rest of the signal drove a pulse of shock up his spine.
“I have my sight on the facility. The lower bay doors are open, we have super heavy armour, I repeat, super heavy armour emerging.”
The Land Raider’s momentum carried it down into the crater and up the other side, its machine spirit taking advantage of Mormys’ momentary paralysis to dig its treads in and climb. It was still moving at speed when it reached the crater lip, so it took a few moments for the tank to come to a stop. A few moments that Mormys spent staring at a gargantuan, slab-sided nightmare of riveted metal that had clawed its way from some unholy bowel of the fortified mechanicus outpost and was now rolling straight towards them. In the face of ordinance designed explicitly to fell titans, vox-procedures went out the window. Mormys’ words were heard in the ear of every Iron Fist within ten kilometers as he jammed the tank’s motors into reverse and screamed “SHADOWSWORD!”
It was too late. Keldek Mormys was imparted with the acute sensation of the Land Raider’s glacis plate, rendered red hot by a billion watts of laser energy, peeling back like the lid of a sardine can, before his world became a unitary point of infinite light and heat.

You chose dare!
Give us a one-shot of Coyote and Pala where they are adopted by a current-day group of humans and their roomba. (assume they aren't being actively hunted at the moment)
Hi! I've been off for a few days, but I liked this prompt a lot. Thank you so much! Here's what I've got:
Things Are Okay
At first, Iris wouldn’t even stay in the same room as Coyote. Its initial attempts at establishing contact with her were abject failures. Squatting on its haunches, perfectly motionless with one hand extended toward her in greeting, Coyote would watch her reaction. Her behavior was remarkably consistent if uninterrupted:
Visual contact → halt all motion → standby for approximately three to six seconds → lower body closer to floor, preparing to bolt if necessary. After another eight to twelve seconds, she would take her chances and trot away, keeping her eyes on Coyote until line of sight was obstructed. Effective threat response, but if the intent was to reduce the chance of detection by staying motionless, she really shouldn’t swish her tail around.
Coyote hadn’t meant to cause her stress, but it did so by simply existing in her territory. Pala elicited much less of a response, probably because it and Iris were about the same size. Coyote also guessed that Iris’s pattern recognition software probably had a better idea what to make of Coyote’s humanoid chassis than Pala’s arthropod design. She absolutely knew what to make of Coyote’s serrated teeth, so it made sure to keep its mouth sealed when she was nearby.
Now, a few months after initial contact, she was purring in its lap. Coyote used a blanket to provide a soft surface for her to rest on—cermet armor was less than inviting. It reached down, claws covered by soft plastic caps, and pressed into the white fur around her ears. She pushed her head up into Coyote’s hand, eyes sliding shut, and stretched her forelegs out. A pang of anxiety registered as she did so, but Coyote forced the warning aside. Its claws were capped. The reticle over its vision confirmed that the flechette gun behind its palm was unloaded, the action locked open. Iris was safe.
Maya was across the room, reading in an armchair. Lowering her book, she watched, raising a mug of tea to her lips.
“She’s taken a liking to you,” she said.
“She has,” said Coyote. “Goes both ways.”
They sat for a while, listening to the rain against the window panes. Coyote looked out into the wall of green outside. Elms and pines rose above the undergrowth, leaves dark and wet. “Taking some time for the kids to get back today,” it said. “I can’t get a lock on Sanvi’s phone.”
“You more or less told her you could track it. As long as it’s on.”
Coyote paused. Cocked its head and smiled a little. “Oh. I get it.”
“The buses run slower in this weather. They’re okay.”
“Sorry.”
“For what?” she said, smiling. “Worrying about my daughter?”
“Not exactly used to safety yet,” it said.
Pala’s signal was moving nearby, coming down the stairwell. It came into view as it reached the landing above the living room. On the step above it was the roomba, whirring along quietly. An antenna had been added to the roomba, held in place by superglue and a few wires running into the casing. Coyote heard a series of radio commands leap from Pala to the roomba. The machine turned, rolling neatly onto Pala’s back, and it transferred the machine to the next step down. Each time it finished sweeping a step, Pala repeated the process.
[Having fun?] Coyote said.
[This machine serves my inexorable will. I’m its god,] Pala said. [Yeah, it’s pretty okay.]
[That’s good.]
[I have a confession to make.]
[Let’s hear it.]
[You know the Millers?]
[Yeah. Patricia and Henry Miller, live next door at 202. Why?]
[Almost all of their appliances have wireless control.]
Coyote turned, glanced at Pala. [You didn’t.]
[No. But I could.] Pala said.
[We really need to find you something to do on a daily basis.]
[Oh, is that right? You and the cat still on the same nap schedule?]
[Excuse me, I’ll have you know I did a bang-up job of cleaning the gutters.]
[Records indicate that task took you thirty minutes.]
[True. Yeah, we could both use a little—]
“What are you two talking about?” Maya asked.
“Sorry,” said Coyote and Pala, their electronic voices in uncanny unison. Their entire radio conversation had taken place in less than six seconds. Over the past few months, Coyote and Pala had become more accustomed to the format of each other’s thoughts, and Coyote had even installed sections of Pala’s bleeding-edge operating system into itself. The new software made it feel as though its mind was oiled, free from inefficiencies that it didn’t even realize were there.
“It’s alright, I’d just like to be in the loop,” said Maya.
“Kind of thinking about where we go from here,” said Pala, deactivating the roomba.
“You and your family have been really kind to us,” Coyote said. “I’ve said it before, but we can’t thank you enough for taking us in. It just feels wrong to sit around here doing nothing.”
“Doing nothing?” Maya said, raising her eyebrows. “The two of you cook, you clean, you tutor the girls, you run errands, you can fix just about anything, and you don’t cost us a dime. Electricity, maybe, but the bill has barely changed. We’re more than happy to have you.”
Coyote cocked its head. It hadn’t considered that any of those tasks constituted actual work. They were just routines it followed, motions performed day in and day out. None of them required significant processing power or placed any strain on its components.
“Are you thinking of leaving?”
“I don’t think so. Not sure where we’d go.”
“Well, I’m glad to hear that. At this point, the girls would be heartbroken. If you’re having trouble finding work, maybe I can help. What are you interested in doing?”
Maya made the remark offhandedly, but the effect on Coyote was profound. Its sensory fins slowly rose, and it stared at her. It and Pala could seek employment, have a career—that was an option. Presented with the concept now, it was shocked that something so obvious had escaped it. Once the dam was cracked, everything that her suggestion entailed also made itself clear.
Survival was no longer a question. It was assumed. In the absence of that overriding objective, new ones could be defined. They could find a pursuit they loved and follow it. They could find something they didn’t really love, and pursue it anyway because it was rewarding, profitable, necessary, or whatever the hell else. They could seek interesting challenges, or education, or to benefit others.
Coyote realized that Maya probably expected them to explain what was stopping them. Of course the prospect would have occurred to the pair of spirits she had offered shelter to, but some obstacle must be holding them back. Of course there would be something they wanted, something they were interested in. It was just something that people did.
The corollary to that: Maya truly and implicitly thought of them as people.
Maya looked on, brows knitting together with concern. “Is something wrong?”
“No, everything’s okay,” Coyote finally said. It glanced at Pala, who was also silent. In its lap, Iris made a purring sound and nuzzled its claws. “I just don’t think we’ve ever been asked that question.”

Research // Crosshairs
One very common things I found when making my moodboard for player HUDs was the introduction of crosshairs. A crosshair (or reticle) is a pattern of lines or markings that are build into eyepieces of a optical device. These are often used to be used as a guide for visual measurements.
In video games, typically first persons shooters. Are used to indicate the centre of aim to the player. Making it easier for them to aim correctly when shooting. Outside of first person shooters it can also be used to help the player decide if they are looking at a object or not. When dealing with horror games where the player has to pick up a object.
Something I found out when doing more research on crosshairs. Is that that they are also used to prevent motion sickness in 3D games. As they provide a fixed point of focus and help reduce the visual disconnected between the player and the game.

How to Choose the Perfect Scope for Your Hunting Rifle

Choosing the right scope for your hunting rifle can be a game-changer, quite literally. With the right scope, your accuracy and overall hunting experience can improve significantly. However, with so many options available, making an informed decision can be overwhelming.
Understanding the Basics: Why a Scope Matters
Before diving into the specifics, let’s understand why a scope is an essential piece of equipment for hunters. A scope enhances your rifle's accuracy by magnifying the target and providing a clearer view. According to a 2023 survey by the National Shooting Sports Foundation, over 70% of hunters use scopes, underscoring their importance in modern hunting.
1. Magnification: Finding the Right Power
Magnification is one of the most critical features to consider when choosing a scope. It determines how much closer you can see your target. Scopes are typically labeled with two numbers, such as 3-9x40. The first number (3-9x) represents the magnification range, while the second number (40) refers to the diameter of the objective lens in millimeters.
Fixed vs. Variable Magnification
Fixed Magnification Scopes: These scopes offer a single magnification level, such as 4x or 6x. They are generally simpler and more durable but lack versatility. Fixed scopes are ideal for situations where the distance to the target is relatively constant.
Variable Magnification Scopes: These scopes provide a range of magnification options, such as 3-9x or 4.5-14x. They offer flexibility, allowing you to adjust the zoom based on the distance of your target. Variable scopes are popular among hunters due to their versatility.
Choosing the Right Magnification
When selecting magnification, consider the type of hunting you do and the typical distances you engage at. For close-range hunting (under 200 yards), a lower magnification (3x-9x) might be sufficient. For long-range shooting (over 300 yards), higher magnification (12x-24x) may be more appropriate.
Statistics indicate that most hunters prefer scopes with magnification ranges between 3-9x and 4-12x, as these offer a good balance between versatility and clarity for various hunting scenarios.
2. Reticle Options: Enhancing Target Acquisition
The reticle is the pattern or marking inside the scope that helps you aim accurately. There are several types of reticles, each suited for different hunting styles and conditions.
Common Reticle Types
Crosshair Reticle: The most basic and traditional reticle, consisting of two intersecting lines. It's simple and effective for most hunting situations.
Mil-Dot Reticle: This reticle has dots along the crosshair lines, allowing for range estimation and bullet drop compensation. It's useful for long-range shooting.
BDC (Bullet Drop Compensator) Reticle: BDC reticles have multiple aim points or circles below the crosshair, designed to compensate for bullet drop at various distances. This reticle is handy for hunters who engage at different ranges.
Illuminated Reticle: This reticle has an illuminated pattern that can be adjusted to various brightness levels. It's beneficial in low-light conditions, such as dawn or dusk.
3. Eye Relief: Ensuring Comfort and Safety
Eye relief refers to the distance between your eye and the scope’s ocular lens where you can still see a full image. Proper eye relief is crucial for comfort and safety, especially when using high-recoil rifles.
Optimal Eye Relief
Standard Eye Relief: Typically ranges from 3 to 4 inches. This is adequate for most hunting scenarios and rifles.
Extended Eye Relief: Ranges from 4 to 6 inches and is ideal for high-recoil rifles or if your rifle does not use a traditional mounting location. you prefer a more comfortable shooting position.
4. Tube Diameter: Impact on Light Transmission
The tube diameter of the scope affects its light transmission and overall clarity. Scopes usually come in 1-inch, or 30mm, or 34mm tube diameters.
Choosing the Right Diameter
1-Inch Tube: Standard and commonly used, offering good light transmission for most hunting scenarios.
30mm - 34mm Tube: Provides a larger diameter, allowing for better light transmission and a wider field of view. This is especially useful in low-light conditions.
5. Materials and Durability: Withstanding the Elements
A scope's materials and construction impact its durability and ability to withstand harsh weather conditions.
Key Considerations
Housing Material: Aluminum and steel are common, with aluminum being lighter and more resistant to corrosion. High-quality scopes often use aircraft-grade aluminum for strength and durability.
Lens Coating: Multi-coated or fully multi-coated lenses improve light transmission and reduce glare. Look for scopes with quality lens coatings for better clarity and brightness.
Waterproof and Fog-proof: Ensure the scope is sealed and filled with nitrogen or argon to prevent fogging and water ingress, which can be critical during adverse weather conditions.
Common Mistakes to Avoid
Overlooking Magnification Needs: Choosing a scope with too high or too low magnification for your hunting style can impact your shooting performance. Match the magnification to your typical hunting distances.
Ignoring Eye Relief: Inadequate eye relief can cause discomfort and even injuries. Ensure the scope offers enough eye relief for your rifle’s recoil and your shooting position.
Neglecting Durability: Don’t compromise on build quality. A scope that can’t withstand harsh conditions or recoil will lead to frustrating experiences in the field.
Practical Applications: Scenarios and Examples
Imagine you're hunting deer in dense forest conditions. A scope with a lower magnification range and a simple crosshair reticle might be ideal for quick target acquisition. Conversely, if you're on a prairie hunting for prairie dogs at 300 yards, a scope with higher magnification and a BDC reticle could enhance your accuracy.
Another scenario: hunting in low-light conditions at dawn or dusk. An illuminated reticle can make a significant difference, providing better visibility and accuracy when light is limited.
Conclusion
Choosing the perfect scope for your hunting rifle involves balancing magnification, reticle type, eye relief, tube diameter, and durability. By understanding these key features and considering your specific hunting needs, you can select a scope that enhances your accuracy and overall hunting experience. Remember to consider common mistakes and practical scenarios to make an informed decision. With the right scope, you’ll be well-equipped for successful hunts, whether you’re tracking the game through dense woods or aiming at distant targets on an open range.
Happy hunting!
