Song for December: Survival by America

~~~ For December I decided to pay homage to Edmund Blair Leighton's painting Accolade, as depicting the act of knighting felt like a nice conclusion to the sword-wielding Lubis I've drawn in the past few months (which are referenced in the stained-glass windows). I also really wanted to make a retro pixel piece, and I chose to stick with the CGA palette as seen in my beloved, the original King's Quest 3.

And thus the third year of my monthly experimentals is done. I'm glad I decided to stick with it in 2024, as I made some of my favourite pieces in a long time within this project. I'm really looking forward to seeing where my art takes me next year ❤️

Sunflower - adventure with little animals! Rabbit, squirrel, mole, frog!

Pixel art for today based on videogame Secret of Mana for game console Super Nintendo. This game is, already, about something like progressive game. It has so beautiful graphics. Just like you are at the country house in summer. In your summer weekend. And also, it is a super 16 bit graphics and well done sprites. And interesting action adventure.

And this is my drawing based on the same theme. You and your friend go to a tree. You search certain this tree in a garden. Frog told you to go to this tree. And you will go to adventure. But, you forget what certain tree. All the trees look similar in a forest, in the end. So, at first – it is good to find a tree.

Later, frog will show you a way to a rabbit. And, also, maybe, a squirrel will go with us. We will go across the field with sunflowers. And there, a clever mole give us a magic wands. Which has attack and defense spells. And, later, we all together will go next.

So, here there is a thing. Strange grey pests are eating the field. And, this way they will eat all this summer world. You need to drive away them with magic. Magic arrow, fire and ice. So, this spells make best effect on them. Grey pests are made of strong clay and stone. And they go from a hole portals. They live long in their caves and later they are hungry a lot and rage into such fields to eat them.

But, little animals and you never make this to happen. And turn this world into a wasteland. With using a sunny day and sorcery you will drive away grey pests from the field.

But, best of all to use magic of a green color. Tree will teach you this when you will be ready. You need a special training. And, then you can to do a spells without a magic wand.  And, magic wand – you need to all the time to charge it with magic ingredients. Just like a magic wands in Might and magic 6,7, for example. So, they can have 40 shots, for example. And then you need to recharge it. And before green color. You can to learn some other color magic.

It is like a picture for action rpg. You run by the fields. And enjoy the life! Just like at the country house! I also to remember green fields from YS. So, in first parts, it is top down view, for something like MSX2. And maybe MSX2+ with some upgrades will look close to Super Nintendo.

Castle Dargon

Pixel art for today based on videogame Gauntlet II for game console Sega MegaDrive. So, it is a point, that it was also a 16 bit version of this game. This is rather famous game. It is something like action rpg. I never played it for myself. I think that such games also should to be at the 8 bit computers. Like MSX 2.

I am sure that these little games are interesting adventures in dungeons. Ghosts. Team with a searchers for adventures. And this was very addictive in those times and this times it is interesting too.

And this is my drawing about the same theme. Explore of the dungeons – it is a whole set of computers games. A genre of games. Especially, in late 80s – first part of 90s. Top-down view. Something like isometric. And adventures – with style of fantasy. With dragons and skeletons. Search for treasures. Of course, it is a search for new armor, new spell, and new weapon. And walking the labyrinths. Level by level. Labyrinth after labyrinth. And it is all the gametime. And your characters are developing their skills.  Such process with progress and explore is very addictive.

You are exploring dungeon of Dargon. So here it is ruins of ancient castle. And a network of underground labyrinth. A many years ago this castle stands here, and more then a ten years, it defense land from a attack of sorcerers from south. And this castle defense land from  attack of dragons in different times. But it is ruined now. And land is wasteland now. But after some decades, some adventurers are start to visit this place.

By this moment, ruins of castle are already restored in some parts. But now it is place for ghosts and skeletons. And no one looks what is in the depth of network underground labyrinths. Nobody knows what is there. In one of old tower griffons are living now. And somewhere in a far there is a cave with a dragon. sorcerers from South have a trade route through this place and they have here a camp for restore powers during travels. Lizardoids also came to this place. And they lured with new spells. They are sometimes walking the lands, and search the spells. So now it is a new place. And it can be explored.
