Since war began outright in 1775, Bethiah Rogers has learned how military events may impact the everyday lives of those with no ties to the military at all. In addition to the rising tensions before the outbreak of the war, Bethiah has witnessed the recent occupation of Philadelphia by the British army. The war has also postponed her expected marriage to her longtime friend, Levi Finley, who has been establishing his role in his father's business interests in Boston with the expectation to move her there once settled. It is an arrangement that benefits both Bethiah and Levi, allowing Levi to remain with the man he loves and Bethiah to not endure the usual intimate expectations of a wife. As the war continues seemingly without end, Bethiah and Levi choose to cease postponing the wedding, allowing Bethiah to join Levi and his partner, Jasper, in Boston. There she takes up the operations of the shopfront where acquired goods are sold, and she becomes a partner in the ownership of a privateer known as the Scot.

Yet, as Bethiah is enjoying her new life and the family they have created for themselves, it becomes clear that the war may disrupt their happiness yet again. Soon they are beset by those seeking to be paid the bounty for capturing Levi, a bounty put on him for his association with the Scot, a vessel that had been a ship in the British Royal Navy before being taken to serve as a privateer. By the time they discover the identity of the master behind the plot against them, it may be too late for Bethiah's family - both the family in Boston and the father she left behind in Philadelphia - and it may also prove too late for the Continental Congress and Washington's army.

REVOLUTION is a queer historical fiction series set during the American Revolution in which all protagonists find happiness at the end of their harrowing journeys, regardless of whether or not their stories include romance or of which side of the war they are on. SERIES CONTENT WARNINGS: war and violence, 18th century social norms and prejudices (including those regarding gender, race, ethnicity, and sexuality)

I think I made a decision that I didn't want to make, but it was coming.

I've been struggling hard with writing Book 4 because of the constant need to fact-check every single detail of every aspect of the plot.

At this point slogging through it at my current pace means I won't have it ready to go by July 2024 (taking multiple rounds of editing into account). This is because I have multiple projects going on and, despite loving my characters and the idea behind it, this is not my favorite project to work on because of how constrained I feel. I think it's time to shift my focus.

I'm still going to work on it bit by bit, but I'm going to make it my 2025 release. So then what can I write fast enough to draft and rewrite and edit before July 2024?

A romance. I can write a romance real fast. The historical aspect is then the backdrop instead of the major focus. (Let it Begin Here had a romance subplot, this will be romance first and foremost.)

Yes, I'm going to begin the enemies-to-lovers romance between the American and British officers.

So here are the adjustments:

Book 3 (Treasonous Practices, asexual main character married to a merchant who is involved with a privateer, disrupting the plans of someone working with Benedict Arnold) - releasing July 2023

Book 4 (enemies-to-lovers romance between a wounded American officer and a British officer who is technically a prisoner but on parole) - releasing July 2024

Book 5 (genderfluid soldier-by-accident-kinda within the defending forces of Fort Schuyler in August 1777) - releasing July 2025

Meaningful Highlights from Kakashi Retsuden:

Minato catching Kakashi before he falls, the same way Kakashi always does for his students. And Kakashi, even at eight or nine years old, straight out of his father's funeral and before being his student, immediately relaxing when he runs into Minato: His feet tangled beneath him and he pitched forward. Into someone’s back. “You were really strong back there,” a voice told him, and he suddenly saw bright golden hair. He felt his breathing become a little easier. The Yellow Flash of Konoha. Namikaze Minato.

Kakashi describing his current feelings about his father: Now he felt proud from the bottom of his heart to have been born the child of the White Fang of Konoha.

Kakashi wanting to help the people of Redaku in a way that they can sustain themselves, even as he actually is providing a great deal of support through the process: The people of this country had to learn how to stand up and walk under their own strength. Give a starving person bread or teach them how to grow wheat. As Hokage, Kakashi had always chosen the latter.

Kakashi reflecting on his time as Sixth Hokage he eschewed tradition to build something that developed beyond shinobi: A never-ending peace. That was what Kakashi had sought as the Sixth Hokage. An orderly society that would go on and on even when he was not the Hokage, even when the day came when the role of Hokage disappeared. To create a framework so that they would never again fall into the quagmire of war.

The way Kakashi shows that he still views all of the former students taught by him and his friends in a parental and protective way: They had long since reached adulthood, and some were now parents while others were active on the front lines as shinobi. Even so, no matter how many years passed, to Kakashi, they were his precious students and the next generation who needed to be protected. Seeing them having so much fun was enough to ease his heart.

How does he do it?? No, really, he cooks delicious food (it seems every day), grows flowers (look at that garden), has very beautiful long hair (I'm envious) and is very successful at work. There's only one explanation - he's not sleeping. Otherwise, where would he have taken the time to do all this?...

He reminds me of Sirius… the same mama-vibe.

So… From now on, I'll call him MamaVi (in one word). I think he likes that…
