I do not like Clementine. The way it handles playlists is totally non-intuitive, the user interface is clunky, and it's so easy to accidentally do something like wiping an entire playlist by holding down the right-click button too long. Rhythmbox is a much better experience. But Clementine lets me easily re-organize the files in my music folder and copy them to my Walkman, which I would otherwise have to do manually, so Clementine it is.

Kate Bush - Alone At My Piano was originally released as one of the many unofficial bootlegs that have seen CD releases over the years. The original CD release of these demo tapes from 1976 was in 1988.

This is the "modestly remastered and expanded" version, which includes other solo demos from a few other unofficial releases that have all been cleaned up to get rid of some of the noise. I wanted to release just the original CD release but most downloads for this album floating around the internet include the bonus tracks.

"The 22 demos which Kate Bush recorded all by herself and her piano in November of 1976 can be found, as a whole or in part, on a number of bootleg CDs. The most common ones are “Cathy’s Home Demos”, “Practice Makes Perfect (Piano Demos No. 1)”, “If You Could See Me Fly”, and “Passing Through Air.

As for the “expanded” bit: I have added six tracks which can be found on the “Cathy’s Home Demos” bootleg. They are two further solo demos from 1980 of “Babooshka” (the first with Kate alone on the piano and some vocal overdubs, the second with Kate at the piano and a rhythm box and vocal + musical overdubs) and five demos with band from 1977, the so-called “Kick Inside” demos."

None of the titles are really official, so I just left them unchanged but put brackets around the alternate titles.

Since there are a lot of these demos already compiled into albums I'll be uploading more of these every once in a while. There are a lot of good ones floating around in single videos and I want to try to clear up any confusion.

I'm not totally satisfied with either Rhythmbox or Clementine, so I'm going to try out a bunch of different music players from the snap store. First step: create a folder called "Shmusic" and copy over a small sample of my music library. I've chosen the "Various Artists" folder and all of Dylan Griggs's projects.

So I got my new laptop all up and running and after that I felt comfortable wiping and reinstalling the OS on my old laptop. It's a purple HP stream which has been running on Ubuntu 16 for like eight years or something. The touchpad has always been weird, so I've had tap-to-click disabled for pretty much that entire time, which made it work fine until recently when a) touchpad motion started glitching and I had to keep finding new ways to get it to reset and start behaving reasonably and b) the left click button started to wear out, probably from overuse, and stop registering clicks. So I was like "oh this machine is wearing out, it's on its last legs anyway, it's time to replace it" and anyway I like having a backup laptop that still mostly works, and the pink HP stream no longer counts because I killed its battery. I should hand that one in for recycling soon.

For a while I've had it in my mind that my next laptop was going to be a framework one, and maybe I could make it last longer because of the repairability factor. What actually triggered the purchase was the fact that the purple HP stream stopped getting updates for firefox on 16 LTS, and its specs are too low to upgrade to a later version of Ubuntu Desktop. Then the streaming services started refusing to work on the old firefox version.

The framework 13 model I built is great for streaming! The extra power really helps it stay smooth.

Anyway once I had that all set up and working, I looked at my old machine and was like "okay upgrading straight to desktop 22 is not going to work on this colorful toy of a laptop so I am going to try wiping the whole thing and replacing it with Ubuntu mate 22."

Well, now tap to click works fine, so the button wearing out is not such a big deal! There must be better drivers or something.

I chose a minimal install to save space, loaded most of my old files back on but no music, and I have 9gb remaining that I can choose what to do with. I could probably get both GIMP and LibreOffice on here, but the problem with that is then I start producing files. LibreOffice files are probably fine but GIMP ones can eat the space fast. I'm going to skip rhythmbox and do all audio things on my new laptop for now. I think I'll wait on the other downloads until I find I want them. It'll probably come up soon.

I downloaded redshift, because mate doesn't seem to have the night light utility that desktop 22 comes with, but it's not working. I might try and figure out how to fix it or I might just suffer through the blue light. It depends.

Anyway I think this purple one is going to stay as my default writing and fiddling around on the internet laptop for a while yet, so I can save the new one for streaming and other more processing intensive activities. Today I was watching a stream on discord on the new laptop and chatting about it on the old one! That was nice.

I've been too busy to write what with computer issues and helping my friend move, but it seems like those things have involved enough creativity to keep me from going bonkers so far! Still, I'm going to try to set aside some time for writing tomorrow after work, especially if I can't get any done the rest of tonight.

Csak nem tudom miért és hogyan.

Valamikor rá kellene szánni az időt és ki kellene debuggolni, hogy miért.

Eddig - hosszú évekig - tökéletesen tette a dolgát: lejátszotta a zenéimet NFS-en keresztül.

Az utóbbi néhány hónapban viszont 1-2 szám után hirtelen kilő a memóriafogyasztás. Olyan szinten, hogy önmaga is belezavarodik és elkezd szaggatni a zene vagy kihagy pár ütemet.

Gondoltam, hogy tartalom indexelésekor csinál ilyet, de nem.

Ami ennél érdekesebb, hogy Dobozka nem eszik sokat ilyenkor sem. A rendszer <100MB-ot jelez, ami semmi.

Mondanám, hogy nem Rhythmbox, hanem NFS bug. Ezt el is tudnám fogadni, ha más app is csinálná, de csak ő. Nincs gond nagy fájlok mozgatásával sem. VLC is jó, MPV is jó, minden jó.

Több NFS share van, mindegyiknél ez a tünet.

Az lenne a legegyszerűbb, ha megtalálnám azt, ami elfogyasztja a memóriát. De a htop/rendszermonitor teljesen használhatatlan. Azt megmondják hogy mennyi memória és swap van használatban, de nem látják azt, ami elfogyasztja.

Mármint, mutatnak valamit, de a legéhesebb app az 1.1%-ot evő Firefox. Jah, reális, amikor 32GB RAM-nál már sikerült közel fél giga swapot összeszedni.

A jó hír, hogy stabilan reprodukálható.

Szerencse a szerencsétlenségben, hogy csak kicsit kellemetlen, nem nagyon döglik meg tőle semmi. Mondjuk az SSD nem örül a swapnak.
