Memorable moments, lines, and my observations from season 4:
Smoke
-Howard saying “Jimmy, don’t” while standing in front of the coroner van right before it drove off made me gasp
-Jimmy’s reply to Howard bearing his soul about causing Chuck’s suicide sent a chill down my spine
Breathe
-Lmao at Jimmy fawning shock over the printer being so good it could counterfeit money. Bob played that so well.
-Kim goes OFF on Howard, like DAMN. I would watch this woman scream the phone book
-Kim kissing Jimmy on the couch 🥹
Something Beautiful
-Me when Jimmy opened the door for the twins at the Vet’s 😳
-I feel confident the Vet saying “can you not hit every damn pothole, please!?” was a Joe DeRosa ad lib
-The printer shop guy sleeping in his office specifies he wants his pizza sliced- in my head cannon that’s a Breaking Bad call back to the pizza place that doesn’t slice their pie
-HEY GALE!!!
Talk
-The cell phone store aesthetic is spot on. My dad had a few Nextel/Sprint stores in the early 00’s and like Jimmy I had to make my own fun while hanging out there for hours on end
-The twins raiding the compound was v Breaking Bad-esq
-Just realized the advice Mike gives Jimmy after Bag Man about realizing you can forget came from Stacy talking about Matty in group!
Quite a Ride
-We get our first flashback to the Breaking Bad timeline!
-Jimmy’s hair is SO fucking cute in phone selling montage
-I did not enjoy seeing Howard so broken in the courthouse bathroom
Piñata
-Fuck you, Jimmy
Something Stupid
-The “Need to call? Buy from Saul!” business card we see in the opening montage is just the next step in his catchphrase evolution. I wholeheartedly appreciate the attention and care that went into showing us exactly how Jimmy got to Breaking Bad Saul
-I love that you don’t know who Jimmy is giving the office tour to and it’s Huel lol
-You’ve been selling drop phones? On the street?
-KIM’S FACE when Suzanne Erickson refers to Jimmy as a scumbag disbarred lawyer
Coushatta
-SO many silly one liners:
-I’ll leave the bottle
-Are you prosecuting Santa Clause!?
-Clarence is going at the organ, I’m gonna step into the vestibule
-I will be with you PRESENTLY!!!
-The fake donations on the church website is some tasteful foreshadowing/calling back to Saul laundering Walt’s money through fake online donations
-The staircase kiss!!
-I love the painting in the boardroom at Mesa Verde. It’s called The Blue Rigi: Lake of Lucerne Sunrise
-PACA PACA PACA it’s LALO!!!
-Overall this episode is a 10/10. It’s silly and entertaining but also feels so pivotal on a rewatch because it sets the stage for everything else that will happen. The entire show can kinda be divided into pre and post Coushatta
Wiedersehen
-Slow down, I’m wearin flip flops!
-I didn’t know I needed an origin story for that fucking bell until I got it
-The! … suspense… ! They really make you think Werner is gonna explode and then he does but not how you expected
-Jimmy driving like a bat out of hell through the S&C parking garage is a vibe
-The way Jimmy’s voice quivers when he says to Kim “you look at me and you see Slippin Jimmy” 😭I just want to comfort him
Winner
-ICONIC karaoke scene
-Mike’s gum trick was so slick. What can I say the man knows parking
-Two details about Kristy Esposito reinforce Jimmy seeing himself in her: Howard’s question to her was about working with elders and she’s the only candidate wearing a fun funky shirt
-Michael, is that you? 😏
-I’ll do everything in my power to be worthy of the name McGill… changes his name 5 minutes later

me: okay im not got get my hopes up in terms of komahina content, ill just enjoy the new dr content
also me: ok but why was komaeda included with shuichi and kiyoko i mean what do those three have in common i mean i guess nagito invested with hajime a couple times therefore he could kinda be considered a detective. but that can be said about chiaki. if it was meant to be a trio of detectives, perhaps they shouldve had izuru or maybe just hajime. we all know that shuichi is keade's love intrest and kiyoko is makoto's, so would it be a stretch to say thats the common thread of the three? ykno what maybe its just random, maybe they picked three names from a hat and---
Dkfjksjdksjdkd I might be biased but I do think at least one person on the team knew what they were doing. Nagito’s only referenced as a “detective” once on his relationship chart, and I highly doubt they picked randomly, so that kinda just leaves the love interest thing? Or at least a slight theme of “characters who had some romantic feelings for a protag”

FIVE DAYS ft park jongseong
happy (almost) birthjay <33 + smut + 1277 words
Something about the clock striking from 23:59 on March 31st to 00:00 on April 1st had flicked a switch in Jay. Of course he sometimes tends towards being excited and giddy for no apparent reason but April apparently sees it fit to give him one. A birthday on the month’s 20th day, reason enough for Jay to spend almost 3 whole weeks anticipating it.
Seeing as it’s already April 15th, the switch has long since been flipped.
It's possible that Jay’s excitement may also be amplified as this will be their first time celebrating Jay’s birthday as a couple. Or, well, more accurately, celebrating his birthday together in any capacity.
YN’s stares, enviously, at Jay’s ass in his underwear as he stands up from the couch to go into the kitchen. Hair slightly ruffled from her fingers running through it, moving a little as he bobs his head from side to side. He leans on the counter, waiting for the kettle to boil.
When he finally returns, he gently sets down 2 (full to the brim) cups of tea on the table, lifting the blanket from over her to wrap it around his shoulders to lay down on top of her. His weight is comforting, warm, as he lets himself cuddle into her a bit.
Fixes the blanket to cover them both properly, letting out a satisfied hum from the feeling of the heater on his feet. The black TV screen stares at them, reflecting their position like a framed photo of domesticity - but despite holding the remote in his hand, he doesn’t hit play.
Choosing instead to fix his attention on her. Observing her as she looks back down at him.
Her own eyes are half shut. Tired - quite clearly.
"My birthday is coming up." He says finally.
YN nods, humming slightly as she draws circles on his back with her finger. "What's on your list?" She asks as if she hasn’t already gotten his gift. She hasn’t yet.
"Just you, babe." He puts emphasis on the word, enough to make her toes curl and her nose scrunch up. Not keen. At all. "What's on yours?"
"What's on my list? For your birthday?"
He hums. Giggles at the feeling of her shrugging her shoulders under him. Watches closely as she sighs - making fishlike sounds with her mouth for a little bit, furrowing her brows in genuine thought.
"I just want you to be happy, to have a good day."
“No.” He shakes his head. "No. Something tangible."
"Okay." She thinks for a moment. "How about a kiss?"
"But you can always have a kiss."
"And you can always have me." She pinches his side gently. You already have me, voice a whisper when she says it, hating the smile that comes with it.
He rolls his eyes. Cranes his neck up. Presses a kiss to her lips - though it’s a bit of an awkward angle for him. He loves the feeling of her nail tracing shapes on his back. Are you saying I could have you now if I wanted? Jay mumbles against her lips.
“Mhm.” A nod. “If that’s what you want.”
He wastes no time in letting a hand slip into her underwear, smiling at the way YN immediately lets her leg fall from the couch, spreading herself for him. Unable to resist, he presses his lips to hers, letting out a groan at the feeling of how wet she is.
Jay’s finger drags her wetness over her clit, tracing lazy circles over the bud. Tongue teasing at the seam of her lips, moving over hers with an urgency that his fingers lack. And he can’t help but feel proud of himself with the way she whines when he uses his thumb and index finger to pinch at her.
Thick, flexible, his finger pushes into her slit, pulling his lip between his teeth, in love with the feeling of her walls pulling him in, welcoming him home. Sound of her wetness louder than she’d expected, she pulls away from his kiss, hiding her face behind her hands.
“Don’t be shy, princess.” He coos, fingers picking up their pace. “Not with me.”
YN cries out when he adds another finger, curling them up towards her stomach, immediately finding her g-spot. Spongy, rigi-Jay, another cry and, she hates loves how good he is with his fingers.
It’s not long before her back is arching and her toes are curling, white behind her eyelids when she closes them. Blissful, perfect, Park Jon- “Whaaat are you doing?” YN whines, bucking her hips up (to no avail) in the hopes of meeting his touch again.
“I love this little pussy.” Jay mumbles into the skin of her neck and she can hear the smirk in his voice as he takes a break from sucking on it. “So, so much.”
Her chest rises and falls dramatically as she tries to collect herself enough to give him a response. Then touch it, is all she manages to say, voice trailing into a whine almost immediately.
He hums in response, pressing a wet kiss in the crook of her neck. Fingers coming down harshly, smacking her soaked clit - and it’s obvious she likes loves it given the way her whole body jerks underneath him.
“Again.” Her voice comes out in a whisper as she digs her nails into the exposed skin on his back.
Jay obliges, slapping her pussy again, harder this time and the moan she lets out turns him on more than he could have anticipated, dick twitching in his underwear.
He leans up off of her body, sitting back on his heels, arms wrapping around her thighs to pull her closer and he has to exert mental power to stop himself from drooling at the way her slick coats her folds, glistening as they catch the light.
She squirms as he thrusts three fingers in, filling her to the knuckle before slapping at her clit once again. With a few nudges to her g-spot and two more well timed smacks, YN’s hole clenches sporadically around his fingers as she reaches her release - finishing hard, hot all over his hands.
“Cock, Jay.” She pants, sitting up a little. Hands reaching for him and she moans at the feeling of how hard he is through his boxers. “Please.”
Desperation is so cute on YN and his face hurts from how wide he’s smiling. Jay chuckles. “I have something else for you.”
A shake of her head. “Only want you, daddy.” Her eyes are impossibly wide as she speaks, chewing at her bottom lip when she’s done.
“Behave.” Jay mumbles, trying not to show how affected he is though he’s sure the tips of his ears are bright red, and he hates the way he feels his dick leaking a tiny bit at the state she’s in.
But the grin on YN’s face as she watches him fastening the new jewellery around her neck in the mirror is worth the wretched promise he’d made her that they wouldn’t fuck or go any further than kissing for the next five days.
Which in Jay’s opinion, was not very “Cock, Jay.. Please” of her..
“Have I ever called you Jongseong?” She asks, leaning closer to her reflection, running a finger over the gold cursive that decorated her neck.
Jay thinks for a moment. “No.” He shakes his head, though he doesn’t sound so sure.
With a small laugh, she meets his eyes in the mirror. “Do you want me to start calling you Jongseong?”He shakes his head again, mumbling that he just didn’t like the way Jay looked on a necklace.

Age of reenchantment
“Credere, nihil aliud est, quam cum assensione cogitare.”
I have no idea what that means, I don’t speak Latin, but it does set the mood for some deep religious reading, doesn’t it? Anyway, now the mood’s set, let me just say that I’ve been doing a lot of thinking these past few years. Ever since my supernatural encounter on Mount Matterhorn, I have become obsessed with the subject of holy apparitions. Especially those in the great land of Toblerone, where I had my very own. Without any of you knowing, I have returned there and lived a scholar monk’s life. Studied history books, codexes, YouTube, and scriptures, all from the seclusion of an age-old abandoned hermit's cave. Today I return to you, and with me I bring...
The Truth.
To get to the truth, I shall start with a little background information to support my findings. See, what I found was that in the great and sacred land of Toblerone, there have been as much as eight Marian apparitions reported over the last hundred years! With only the last officially established as not supernatural. This means there are still a whopping seven could-be-real sightings of the Virgin Mary, there, where the Holy Triangle of Chocolate originated.
Regarding these seven sightings, the Catholic church remains ‘undecided’ whether they are anecdotal truths, or the mere figment of supposedly good-natured imagination. Herein it is important to mention that when it comes to the church's approval of any apparition's supernatural character, the verdict 'no decision' bears far more significance than a 'negative decision'.
So, done deal:
Seven sightings of the Virgin Mary since the year 1917.
Bearing that in mind my mere single sighting of the Virgin Miley at the top of mount Matterhorn seems miserly in comparison. However, I somewhat recently found out there was a second apparition.
They were exciting times, indeed.
It happened in Luzern, a city dead center in the great and utmost sacred land of Toblerone, situated between the mountains Pilatus (I kid you not) and Rigi (also known as Queen of the Mountains; believe me, I couldn't make this shit up). There, the Virgin Miley appeared in 2014.
Virgin Mary, 7 - Virgin Miley 2.
Now this is where it gets interesting.
Where the Virgin Mary's sightings mustered a whopping seven verdicts of 'undecided' from the Catholic church, and let me remind you, that bears far more significance than a 'negative decision', this admirable fact cannot top the reality that there is actual footage of the second Virgin Miley sighting in Luzern.
That's right. In this mind-boggling modern age of back-to-back technological advancements, the Chaste One; bringer of a brand new age of enchantment, has been recorded live on camera. You can even look it up in the sacred archives, or Youtube, it was at something called 'Bangerz Tour'... which of course is an anagram for 'Tau Brr Zen Go'. Which is a lovely little wink the Virgin Miley did to our encounter on Mount Matterhorn.
Allow me to explain.
Tau, in the Hebrew alphabet, is the last letter and represented the fulfilment of the entire revealed work of God. So obviously The Chaste One is hinting at the fact that our encounter left her fulfilled. Whether in this she means gratified or quite literally filled up I cannot comment on. I sent a registered letter to the Vatican, imploring clarification considering the question, but I never got an answer back. To my knowledge this means their verdict is 'undecided'. Tau was also the seventh letter of the ancient Greek alphabet, and used as a symbol for life or resurrection. Which of course is a nod at her bringing me back from the brink of death.
Combined with 'Brr Zen Go', the anagram of 'Bangerz Tour' is the shortest imaginable summary of the story I have already told you. The Divines, of course, waste no time and speak in the language of the universe. More than often this regards symbolism in dreams, suddenly sparked epiphanies, or the echoes of softly sung cherubim songs within the quietude of 3 A.M. However, in this case, an anagram so crudely plain in sight it has evidently been overlooked for all those years.
I praise The Chaste One, Queen of Toblerone.
She did it all for me.
She did it all for me because none of you believed my anecdotal narrative. It was dubbed fiction, or, even worse, comedy! Some even dared to cast it aside as a madman's rambling. And so you have hurt me. You have hurt me, and I turned quiet. Solitary. A castaway with little left to live for but his holy chocolately and Virgin Queen instilled faith. A faith, rewarded.
For today I return from the solemn grim of my hermit's cave of dejection, with renewed faith and vigour. Here I am, see, with indisputable proof, to write to you all, accursed non-believers and Miley deniers:
"Ha! Told ya."

Switzerland with Maria and Jane Barlow – Monday 1 October 1827
5 40/60
9 40/60
were awakened to see the sun rise – the bell rang for a considerable time – it had blown and rained hard all night – such a banging of window shutters almost impossible to sleep – 2 women came into Mrs Barlows room in the dead of night to fasten the shutter and frightened her exceedingly –
my feet were very cold – watched the sun as I dressed – rose beautifully – very fine effect on the high alps of the Berne Oberwald – Jungfrau Wetterhorn, (Eiger) Fulhorn just over Grindelwald etc. (Louis thinks the 3 finest views in Switzerland from the Rigi, the Fulhorn and the Salève at Geneva –
Dressed and all packed and ready, and out of doors at 6 35/60 – very cold, but well worth going out – Louis waited to point the different mountains – saw the lake of Zuric pretty plainly – breakfast at 7 –
off at 8 all on foot – instead of returning to the Rigistaffel, straight direct down a sentier and saved 1/2 a league (out of 3 leagues) in going to the hospice – a good path but steepish and steppy just down upon the hospice, a picturesque looking wooden house with a little garden before it – 3 auberges and close by the neat little white chapel of notre dame de la neige – got there at 8 50/60 – 5 minutes in the chapel – about a dozen people there  then priest administering the sacrement – gave the people white wine – the chapel full of little of little ex votos pictures etc. – so many pelerins, all the auberges sometimes over flowing –
beautiful descent along beatifully wooded (fir and beech beautifully mixed) traverse valley with a ruisseau from the Rigi running down it – in 1/4 hours from notre dame, a little chapel (left) our saviour in plaster, bending under the cross, and 2 or 3 more figures –
at 9 3/4 after descending several steps, at the ‘maison couverte’ or the shelter-house, a nice enough little wooden auberge at the meeting of the roads from road Rigi to Goldau and Ast, 1 lieue from each and these places – (Had we ridden down and had have had to pay 5 batz per horse at Goldau) – turn right and down to Goldau – from here to the bottom of the hill (got there at 10 10/60) that is into the valley of Goldau, steps almost all the way – don’t ride up or down, -the road from the shelter house down to Ast no better, and narrow – good road sentier or mule road) afterwards to Goldau – the range of Rigi beautiful wooded (fir and much beech) – the highest breccia mountain (vide Ebel) in the known world – fine view all along of the Rossberg (the very summit called SptizElibuhl?) and its fearful chute – not so tremendous looking now as at 1st first – some verdure up it – (vide Ebel article Rigi) – a little harmless fall last July 12 month – 8 days before the great fall or shepherd had made a little hole he could get his hand in at the top and on throwing stone down heard them fall into water – Rossberg a breccia mountain – huge masses of it lying all along –
got to Goldau at 10 3/4 – 2 or 3 good wooden cottages and the cheval blanc a nice little auberge where being thirsty we had 1/2 bottle vin ordinaire blanc and hot and cold water - lovely sunny day – got into a charabanc and off from Goldau at 11 1/4 – at 11 3/4  Lowertz -  very neat, pretty, new white washed church (the old one destroyed by the inundation of the lake at the great fall of the mountain), and 3 or 4 cottages – the Breccia range seems to end about here, and the calcareous range to begin – hight towering over the pretty little lake of Lowertz) Louis says it is not ‘riche en poisson’), and picturesquely wooded where a tree can fasten itself – tremendous over the road cut along its foot close upon and unguarded from the lake at 6 or 8 feet below – 1st and longest little island a cottage or 2, and then square tower (the rest hid by fine beech-cover) of the one of the Chateaus of Gesler, where his ‘intendant’ lived – the other little island very near to it, a mere speck with one or 2 little trees on it.
at 12 20/60 Seewen – mineral baths there – and about a dozen scattered neat white washed houses and neat church with red topped (painted boards?) steeple – at 12 1/2 leave (left) road to Einsidlen 5 lieues, and get to Schwytz at 12 50/60 picturesque pretty little white -washed ville with large very handsome church, and largish convent of Capucins Stop at the white horse – sent out things to the wash – engage rooms for tomorrow night, and all get a good dinner for 6/. on good egg soup, roast veal, bread and cheese, excellent pruneaux of last year warmed up in butter? and plums and peas and left 2 little cakes untouched.
off from Schwytz in one char (Schwytz very prettilly situated among green grass and orchards and picturesque scattered white houses), at 2 20/60 a pretty drive and in 35 minutes got to the large, good, white-washed village of Brunnen at 2 55/60 –
there was a cowfair at Schwytz, and a fête at Brunnen stalls about – went into the auberge to see the people dance (all waltzes) – the boat not being ready, stood watching the dances – the bateliers ouvriers and domestiques of the village really danced very well - particularly the land lady who civily stood up for our amusement – the land lord very civil – wanted me to dance – said I would with all my heart but could not dance in that way and besides had not time – 2 parties were shooting at different ends of the village at targets à la William Tell – the good people here and at Schwytz not yet spoilt by the English –
off, per boat, 3 rowers, from Brunnen at 3 40/6- - the green lake smooth hemmed in on both sides by high perpendicular, fine, wooded (chiefly beech wood) mountains – just beyond Sissigen – a little mountain fall into the lake in 1801 did considerable damage – Sittingen merely 3 or 4 cottages and a picturesque little church –
at 4 3/4 landed for 5 minutes at Tell’s chapel – oblong – 14 my common paces by 8 – open towards the lake, with a railing about a pace from the edge of the chapel floor and from the lake – 6 steps up to it – the history of William Tell painted on the walls within – just beyond the chapel (could not make the Chapel) Lady Byron and party (left her daughter 15 days with a femme de Chambre and valet at Küshnacht while she herself went across the Bruring to Meringen etc – carried in chaise) landed and stood for an hour till the wind abated and the lake was calm – on doubling the point of Tell’s chapel Fluelen white washed village 2 good Inns and Good church) and large white washed nunnery at the head of the other corner of the lake) in sight – landed there at 5 1/2 –
very comfortable at the Croix blanche – afterwards writing – very fine day -

Spectacular Switzerland - A Visit to Jungfraujoch, Top of Europe
Wondering what to expect when visiting Jungfraujoch, Top of Europe? Home to the highest train station in Europe, the largest glacier in the Alps, and incredible mountain views, Jungfraujoch – Top of Europe in Switzerland is an excursion in Switzerland that is not to be missed. It is truly one of the most beautiful places in the Swiss Alps. When the weather is clear, Jungfraujoch, Top of Europe is spectacular. We had a picture-perfect day visiting this famous European peak and we want to share exactly what you can look forward to when you visit this gorgeous viewpoint.
All About Jungfraujoch Top of Europe in Switzerland
Jungfraujoch is located in the region of Bernese Oberland in the Swiss Alps. With an elevation of 3454 meters (11,332 feet), you are going to feel the effects of altitude once you step off the highest cogwheel train in the world. So if you are sensitive to altitude, take your time as you explore, some people were feeling a wee bit dizzy at this elevation.
Here’s an interesting tidbit for you: Contrary to popular belief, when you visit Jungfraujoch, Top of Europe, you are not actually going to the top of Jungfrau Mountain, you are going to a viewpoint that is known as a Joch. “Joch” is Swiss is translated to Yolk in English, meaning you are basically wedged in the low end of a saddle between two mountain peaks, Jungfrau and Mönch. Trust me, you would rather be in the Joch than at the top of the mountain, the views from here are astounding.
How to Get to Jungfraujoch
To get to Jungfraujoch – Top of Europe, you need to make your way to Grindelwald Terminal in the Jungfrau Region of Switzerland. The best way to get around Switzerland is by train. you purchase a Swiss Travel Pass that will make it easy to get around anywhere in Switzerland by Train. To get to Jungfraujoch, you will need to make your way to Grindelwald Terminal by train.
A Swiss Travel Pass includes:
Unlimited travel by train, bus, and boat

Get your Swiss Travel Pass Here.
Two free informative apps to help plan your Switzerland journey are: Grand Train Tour of Switzerland app and the Swiss Travel Guide app
You can purchase tickets from Grindelwald o4 Interlaken or to Jungfraujoch, Top of Europe in advance at Jungfrau Railways. We highly recommend a Top of Europe Pass to allow flexibility for the weather. Passes start at 3 days for 239 CHF ($260 USD)
We have broken down the exact route we took from Grindelwald Station in Grindelwald Village all the way to Jungfraujoch – Top of Europe below.
Train to Grindelwald Terminal
There are two ways to get to Jungfraujoch, Top of Europe. Train only or via the new Eiger Express. The Eiger Express is a state-of-the-art gondola that shaves 42 minutes off the journey. We took the Eiger Express and it was awesome. Depending on where you are staying, you will hop on the Bernese Oberland Railway to Grindelwald Terminal. Once you reach Grindelwald Terminal, you walk through the brand new facility that feels more like an airport than a ski area. With moving sidewalks, boutiques, and restaurants, it has everything you need. But you aren’t going to spend too long here, because you are going to the top of Europe baby!
Bahn Eiger Express to Eiger Station (Eigergletscher)
The Eiger Express is the most modern tri-cable gondola in the world. This new gondola was built with little impact on the environment using only seven towers spanning 6483 meters. (miles) Plus, it is massive, the Eiger Express can hold up to 26 passengers per gondola moving a lot of people at a time. The windows heat up keeping the views clear in winter and it moves fast. The Eiger Express takes you from Grindelwald Terminal to the Eiger Glacier station in just 15 minutes.By taking the Eiger Express, you shave off 42 minutes of travel time and transfers making the journey an easy straight shot to Jungfraujoch with only one transfer to the highest railway in Europe.
Jungfraubahn – Jungfrau Railway
Once you reach Eiger Glacier Station (Eigergletscher) this when things get really interesting. From here, you transfer from the gondola to Jungfraubahn (The Jungfrau Railway) all the way up to Jungfraujoch. This historic cogwheel train is the highest cogwheel train in Europe. Not only that, it travels right through the Eiger and Mönch Mountains via a 7km long tunnel. It is steep and a very cool experience. There is also a little multimedia show to keep you occupied while you travel up for about 30 minutes.
Eismeer Sea of Ice
The Jungfrau Railway was completed in 1912 and is truly a feat of engineering. Imagine building a tunnel going through mountains at high altitudes more than 100 years ago! During the train journey, there is a stop in the middle of the mountain where you can get out of the train for views of the Aletsch Glacier. The Aletsch Glacier is an 80 square km ice sheet that is 22 km long and 1 km thick, making it the most powerful ice stream in the Alps. From here, you have a close-up view of Eismeer (“Sea of Ice”) of this mighty glacier. But the stop isn’t long because you are about to have your mind blown.
What to do at Jungfraujoch Top of Europe
Sphinx Terrace
Once you disembark the train, there is one more journey to take before you start exploring. It’s time to bard the ultra-fast elevator that takes you up another 117 meters to your destination, Jungfraujoch – Top of Europe. It is here that you are free to explore all the panoramic views from The Spinx Observation Terrace. Take your time here as you have extraordinary views of Jungfrau and Mönch peaks. You can also see the Eiger from here as well as the Aletsch Glacier.
Keep an eye of for the Alpine chough birds that soar through the air. These birds can only survive at altitudes of over 3000 meters. It is here that you are standing on the famous domed research station that you see in all the arial views of Jungfraujoch, Top fo Europe. Note, drones are not allowed to be flown at this UNESCO World Heritage Site so leave that view to the helicopter tour or the professionals that have a permit.
Alpine Sensation
The journey continues through Alpine Sensation, a multi-media display showcasing the building of the Jungfrau Railway. As you enter, a giant snow globe welcomes you with scenes from Switzerland. It is in Alpine Sensation that you’ll learn of Adolf Guyer-Zeller, the creator of the Jungfrau Railway who had a vision of taking tourists to the top of the mountain via train. He never lived to see its completion but his legacy lives on.
As you ride the moving sidewalk you pass photographs taking you on a journey from the early days of the building of the railway to the hardships that the construction crews faced. It also pays tribute to the 30 men who were killed building the railway.
Ice Palace
We had seen pictures of the Ice Palace located at Jungfrau, Top of Europe, and expected a cheesy exhibit for kids. Boy, were we wrong! This glacier tunnel was dug in the 1930s with good old-fashioned chisels and hammers. I couldn’t wrap my head around the fact that we were walking under a glacier. I kept asking our guide Doris, “Are we under the glacier right now?” The long tunnel of ice is extraordinary.
There are ice sculptures scattered throughout the 1000 square meters of tunnels that weave under the Aletsch Glacier. From a Charley Chaplin ice carving exhibit (Charley resided in Switzerland after being exiled from the United States) to mountain animals, the ice carvings are works of art.
Glacier Plateau
It’s time to head outside to walk in the snow. It may be summer below in Grindelwald, but it is year-round winter up here at the Top of Europe. This viewpoint offers the best views of the mountains of Germany and France and on the other side an unobstructed view of the Aletsch Glacier.
There’s also a photo opportunity to hold the Swiss Flag as you stand at the top of Europe. We liked to pretend we had just summited a mountain holding the flag, however, it was the easiest ascent we’ve ever had in our lives with gondolas, trains, and elevators taking us to this phenomenal viewpoint. It’s worth the shot though to say you’ve been there, done that.
Hike to Mönchsjoch Hut
We didnt’ have time to do a glacier hike, but we did get to see groups hiking to Mönchsjoch Hut. Imagine hiking at an altitude of 3650 meters through the UNESCO World Natural Heritage Swiss Alps as you take in the panoramic views of the mountains. You can stay overnight at the hut to enjoy the sunset from the Top of Europe. (Make sure to book in advance)
Jungfrau Panorama
We were lucky to have a bluebird day during our visit to Jungfraujoch, but sometimes people go all the way up and are shrouded in clouds. If you happen to be at the top on a bad day, there is a 360-degree panorama display of the surrounding mountains. We didn’t spend too long here because we had the real deal in front of our very own eyes, but it is a cool film taking you to crevasses, through the clouds and overhead views of the Jungfrau Region. But you don’t have to stay overnight, the hike is only about 45 minutes one way, so you can make it out and back in about two hours.
Shops and Restaurants
Going up to the Top of Europe is an expensive excursion, so you don’t want to hurry back down once you’ve reached the top. Jungfrau Region has made sure to offer plenty of opportunities to make the most of your time at the top. Make sure to stop into Lindt Chocolate Heaven for a sample of chocolate and a chance to take home some delicious treats.
Also, like everywhere in Switzerland, you can purchase a watch if you want. I often wonder who buys a watch at the top of a mountain, but our guide Doris told me that many people buy watches here. You can even get a Victorinox Swiss Army Knife if you want.
Restaurants
And no attraction would be complete without a stop for a bite to eat. There are three restaurants at Jungfraujoch Top of Europe. Restaurant Crystal and Restaurant Aletsch offer traditional Swiss Cuisine while Restaurant Bollywood caters to those looking for some Indian food. There is also a Speedy self-serve restaurant for some dining as well. If you want to have a drink, there is a coffee bar or a cocktail bar. At the Sphinx Bar, you can enjoy a glass of bubbly as you make a toast from the Top of Europe.
Hike the Eiger Trail
We didn’t spend too long at the restaurants or shops as we had a big afternoon ahead of us hiking the Eiger Trail. You don’t need to hike the Eiger Trail when visiting Jungfraujoch, but we highly recommend it. Rather than taking the gondola back down, take the Jungfrau Railway beck to Eigergletscher (Eiger Station) and start hiking to Apliglen. The Eiger Trail is an easy 2 hour hike that takes you along a rolling footpath that passes by the Eiger North Wall offering astounding views of the Grindelwald Valley.
Cows
If you have ever wondered where those famous photos of Swiss Cows on mountains are taken, it is right here. While hiking along the Eiger Trail we came across a herd of cattle that are set free during the summer months to graze on the mountainside. The grass of the mountains create the perfect food to create delicious Swiss cheese. Along the route you’ll see beautiful flowers, waterfalls and views of the surrounding mountains. Don’t miss doing this hike!
Hot Tips for Visiting Jungfraujoch Top of Europe
Jungfrau Top of Europe Passes can be purchased at their website here. If you have a Top of Europe Pass you will receive a 10% discount. Your pass includes unlimited trips to Jungfraujoch on the day of validity.
Check the weather before going to Jungfraujoch – The experience really depends on the weather and if you are spending that amount of money to go up to the Top of Europe, you are going to want to be able to see it.
Start as Early as Possible – Time tables change depending on the time of year, but we made sure to go up the first gondola from Grindelwald Terminal at 8:00 am. Plus, the weather is usually better in the morning in the Jungfrau region. (don’t hold me to this, but it has been our experience)
Reserve Your Tickets – Make sure to reserve your tickets in advance so that you get on the first gondola and then first train. Other people had to stand in line to wait for tickets to become available.
Dress for cold weather – We saw people going up to Jungfraujoch in shorts and we knew they were going to have a horrible experience. It is cold up there. We had an outer wind layer and a warm fleece layer along with a winter hat and gloves that we could put on when we reached the top. It made for a very comfortable experience. Even the ice cave is cold, so you will want to be warm to truly enjoy it.
Hire a Local Guide – We had a guide with us and it was so helpful. We didn’t have to think about a thing as she led us through each step of the Jungfraujoch Top of Europe experience. Plus, she gave us insightful information and a guided history of the region. It truly was a special experience and one of our favorite days in Switzerland ever. (we’ve been to Switzerland three times!)
Where to Stay when visiting Jungfraujoch Top of Europe
We stayed at the Romantik Hotel Schweizerhof in Grindelwald. It was a fantastic location just one stop from Grindelwald Terminal. It’s only about a 3-minute walk to Grindelwald Station and the train from Grindelwald Station to Terminal is only three minutes. Within 6 minutes we were at the gondola getting ready to make our way up the mountain. This historic hotel has a lovely outdoor patio for dining, a fantastic buffet breakfast, and fabulous views of Grindelwald First.
So, Is Jungfarujoch worth it?
Yes, Definitely! We didn’t know what to expect when going up to Jungfraujoch, Top of Europe, but it exceeded our expectations. It was one of the most beautiful scenes we have ever laid eyes on. By going early in the morning, we stayed ahead of the crowds and had spectacular views. There is so much to do up at Jungfraujoch, we think it is definitely worth the price.
By riding the Cogwheel trains, taking the gondola, going through the Ice Palace, and having the views from the Sphinx Viewing Platform and Glacier Plateau, Jungfraujoch, Top of Europe is definitely worth every penny. You don’t often get an experience like this without having to trek for hours and our visit to Jungfraujoch – Top of Europe is an experience we will cherish for years to come.

5 40/60
12 1/2
tolerable motion ready at 7 1/4 – all went to the top? of the
Cathedral – too hazy to see the Pyrennees – home at 8 – breakfast –
off from the hotel de France Auch at 9 – very good Inn – small dinner on well cleaned plate yesterday and handsome china this morning and everything good – dinner well cooked – good vin du pays and champagne –
cathedral fine gothic interior and the richest in gilding (in the chapels) we have seen to say nothing of the magnificent boiserie and painted glass –– in the Sycamore tree and our saviour seeing him and some little white sheep the best of the glass the King Chief canon and has stall never used – the exterior very plain – the two west towers small and poor and the west front spoilt by the putting on of a Corinthian façade –
a pretty esplanade and all the roads having fine avenues many handsome promenades – 2 places – town seems large and pretty good but irregular – the Gers here as every where a narrow inconsiderable river –
man chef de maison in Paris and going per Diligence proper cause taken up by the police for saying the King had left Paris – no papers since dated of Monday last –
very fine sunny morning sortie by nice level flat road thro’ fine avenue of elms along the foot of rounded hill, forming one side the widish fertile valley of various cultivation – hills covered with vines – too little wood for beauty don’t see the river (Gers) – farms – cottages – hedges – Fahrenheit 74 1/2 at 9 a.m.
road as yesterday stoned – mended with gravel– Vicnau single house (farm house like) – changed horses and off at 10 42/.. –
in 3 1/2 minutes after at the top of the hill immediately above Vicnau first view of the Pyrennees – Louisa with me – delighted – could not have distinguished them from clouds – a longish line – none but an eye accustomed to mountains in such distance could have distinguished them – distinguished the pic du Midi, and some snow-clad summits, but the snow not seeming to Extend far down –
Extensive view from Vicnau hill over undulating country parserné d’hibilations under vine and plough – very little wood but in fence rows good farm houses, and hamlets – the last stage rather hilly at last, and this stage very hilly look down nicely up Mirande and enter it by fine long avenue of elms, cross good stone bridge over yellow ochreous Baize, and mount mount steepish hill into the great (splashed yellow on white) goodish picturesque old town – houses projecting largish church –
Fahrenheit 80° at 11 3/4 in shade in the carriage, and 92° in the sun on the cap case –
ground place arcaded as, in Italy and large arcaded building – all the people marched in the middle in their Sunday clothes standing about – nothing particular in costume – Basque or Ayrshire caps often crimson very picturesque town – admire it much –
fine range of undulating country but tops of hills more – generally very pretty one half wooded – few vines – much corn – avenue of elms to some distance beyond the Town –
the language quite different from French today and yesterday – but French spoken to us – Provencale –
Fahrenheit 109° in the sun at 1 p.m.
very undulating stage – from 1 3/60 long straight road and the Pyrennees right ahead – the best view since Vicnau – but they are seen thro’ mist –
the latter 1/2 this stage more wooded than the former and pretty nice little town of Miélan celebrated for its mutton which however is not now so good since the hills have been defriché, which used to produce aromatic 2 herbs
obliged to wait till our horses bait – from 1 1/2 to 2 35/.. walk about – come to the little hotel dawdle – then (2 35/..) Louisa and I sit down to write – had just got comfortably writing when off at 2 57/.. – mud-splashed little town – fine view from the church yard of Pyrennees –
drag down long traversing steep descent out of the picturesque town into wide ascending plain not much wooded – I could sleep very well at such an Inn as where we have been sitting close to the post house –
Fahrenheit 90° in shade in the carriage at 3 10/..
fine view of the Pyrennees stretching along in the distance (left) – very fine country but the summits bare, the snow in patches and to me the mountains not to be compared with alps seen from Berne, or Soleure or Rigi Culm – more wooded and mountainous as we go along hardly at all out of foots pace – asleep a while –
about 3/4 hour from Miélan – look down upon rich green wooded dell – hill covered with brackens richly wooded mountain tops hills – in the distance long curving line of lower Pyrennees backed by the higher – for ever up and downhill but views of green-wooded vales and vine clad hills and wooded summits – fine air too –
Fahrenheit 103° in the sun now at 4 from the Top of hill at 4 7/.. high Pyrennees very fine – the mist so far clearer as to allow us to trace their outline nearer to the bottom – got out and walked 10 minutes down the hill – look down upon the little picturesque town of scattered village of Villecontal? and pass stone bridge over little river Esteux? vines and Indian corn – hedges all along more or less – high mountains (left) very fine on coming down upon Rabasteins more dun cows – not well built, but picturesque little town – all the people at their doors in Sunday clothes but no particular costume –
our 3 carriages (I first) all together quite a sight for them – large place municipale with large odd looking marché in the middle looking like 3 rows of great cart sheds covered in – being square not arcaded, as at Mirande –
Fahrenheit 89° in the sun at 5 1/4 p.m. – hedges – and alder hedges alongside the road – as we near the high Pyrennees they are are certainly fine but there is so little snow mere spots (taches) specks), here and there that I cannot compare them with the high alps – as a range of mountains of course nothing in Scotland can be other than miniatures compared with them, but Ben Nevis as a mountain looked as fine as any of them – the nearer I approach the high Pyrennees the less I compare them to the if now clad Alps – but they are better approached – seen to more advantage? where can one so go up to from a wide plain the chain of alps – these are like a fine cathedral built up – the others like a less fine cathedral in a beautiful close –
road very pretty some time before Tarbes between alder hedges, and woods the high Pyrennees right ahead of us – but oh! no more like alps – not like Mont Blancs – a perfect garden of mais, and vines creeping round fruit trees – pretty neat cottages straw thatched tiled a blue slated house if whitish stone or splashed – out on 1 long wide street with gardens interspersed in front and at the sides up the houses – very pretty and picturesque no! this is not Tarbes but the very pretty village (St. Terreol Auvilbeaux? Aureilhan) and from here the high Pyrennees seen from their feet and very fine – but have I not seen scenery near Snowdon as striking?
lovely evening – no snow hardly on them – we cannot surely see the highest tops – cross handsome stone bridge over broad but almost dry Adom – a mere shallow running stream over its gravelly bed –
very neat wide streeted town – large neat white washed, grande place – nice town had her done – walked out an hour to the cathedral and Prado – the fête of the tutelar saint – 2 fiddles and one clarionet and dancing – great many people in their best, quite gay – the Prado reminded Lady S– [Stuart] of the Enghi at Berne –
dinner at 8 1/2 – came to my room at 11 50/..
Lady S [Stuart] and I tete a tete from ten talking of different things shewing I was knowing enough and she not observation on the contents of Gibbons Rome and all sorts of things being put in Latin and Greek she evidently has no objection to my conversa tion and I see likes to have me as little later than her at Pau tomorrow as possible – very fine day –
left margin:
Capital Inn at Auch
Excellent grapes – the 1st excellent
there were a few little black grapes in the market at Tonneins once some little bad black ones –
peaches and pears and green gages the common fruit

Chapter 1: Nothing Is My Job Until I Finish My Coffee
"Courier stopped by." Elena grumbled bleary eyed from behind her coffee, making Serana shake her head with a fond smile. "You should try sleeping when you come off the wall."
Elena set her mug down as she tugged Serana into her lap, nuzzling against her neck. "And miss spending time with my lovely wife?" Her arms squeezed tight around Serana. "Never." She met seranas eyes laughter dancing across her face. "Said lovely wife could stop being so damned beautiful and i wouldn't spend half the night making you forget your own name."
"Never." Serana laughed, catching Elenas lips with hers for a moment before leaning across the table to grab the letter. Elena grumbled behind her, forehead pressing between her shoulder blades. "Another dragon, out by Morthal." Elena made a rude dismissive noise and Serana leaned back against her head until she straightened. "It's your job, Dragonborn."
"Nothing is my job." She snickered at the look Serana shot her over her shoulder. "Until I finish my coffee."
Serana shook her head before wiggling to sit sideways in Elena’s lap again. "You are terrible." Elena made a low noise as Serana tangled her fingers in her hair, Elena’s hands smoothing around her waist.
Whatever Serana was going to say next was cut off by the front door banging open. "Mamas!"
Elena peered around Serana to see a haggard Lucia with a bruised and bleeding Runa, her arm slung over her shoulder as she half carried her younger sister. The two women were on their feet before it had fully sank in and Elena was checking Runa over as Serana ran downstairs for their healer's kit. "What the fuck happened?" Elena got Runa settled in a chair as Lucia hovered.
"She was stumbling up from the stables."
"Guards?" Elena hissed, taking a bottle from Serana as Lucia and Runa shook their heads. "Hold still, sweetheart, it's going to sting." Runa barely nodded and she tensed as Elena dumped alcohol over the cut down her arm. It wasn't deep or jagged and Elena let out a sigh of relief.
"Chest hurts." Runa rasped out.
"Here." Serana pushed her tangled hair back before helping her down a potion that left her spluttering. "Are you alright, Lucia?" Lucia nodded, swallowing several times but stepping into Serana’s arms when she opened them.
"What happened?" Elena wound bandages around her arm, careful to not make them too tight. Half of her thoughts were on strangling whoever was on the gate, Rigi and the new one she thought.
"Some man took Sofie." Elena blinked several times, her plots of windmill duty coming to a screeching halt. "I heard her talking to him outside Angeline’s, someone out in the marsh needing help. I followed them and he had friends waiting."
Elena nodded as she straightened with a sharp whistle. With a burst of black smoke and a squawk, Keir was lighting on Lucia's shoulder. Elena met his unblinking eye. "Get Maga, please." The raven nodded before flapping towards the ceiling and disappearing with another puff of smoke.
"I'll sit with Runa." Lucia shoved at Elena. "Get Sofie back." Elena stared over her head and Runa nodded, looking tired but less pale.
"Don't open the door for anyone that isn't Ma."
"We won't." The girls answered in unison, a shimmer of approval crossing Elena’s face when Lucia grabbed a kitchen knife.
"Mama?" Elena turned back again, Runa's dark shining eyes a mirror of the anger in her mother’s. "They had masks, like mudcrabs. Orange robes. Not from here." If she hadn’t been staring at her youngest daughter, she could have sworn she was hearing Odara, the hard clip of her information much older than her 14 years. Elena nodded sharply and slammed out the door.
Serana followed her out. "Who would have taken her?" Elena shook her head breaking into a run and headed for the stables.

I don’t wanna rain on anons parade in any way, but stabbing someone was never Nagito’s original plan. His plan was to get HIMSELF killed by Teruteru. Imagine for a second. Hajime is at the party, having the time of his life with Nagito, but he seems to be focused on something else. The lights go off and when they turn back on Nagito is missing. Hajime is desperately running around checking every nook and cranny and then under the table, is Nagito’s corpse. His eyes go wide. Who did this? He’ll never forgive them! He searches around for evidence by himself, practically inconsolable. Fuyuhiko makes a remark how it was just some stupid idiot and Hajime snaps at him, and tells him never to speak about Nagito that way. At the trial, he screams at Teruteru when the revelation comes forth, how could he kill Nagito, but then Teruteru reveals that he was trying to prevent a murder. He tells Hajime about Nagito’s speech to him. Hajime can’t believe it. Nagito? Trying to kill somebody? Chiaki then pipes up. It’s less likely he wanted to kill somebody than it was he just wanted the game to start. And he used his own life to do so. Hajime has tears in his eyes. She’s wrong. They’re all wrong. Nagito wasn’t like that. He’d never do that! He runs away from the trial room his head in his hands. How much did he really know about Nagito Komaeda?

Coronavirus: It may be many years before New York is the same again
Tumblr media
NEW YORK (NYTIMES) - It took just a matter of days to shut down New York City, once the coronavirus took hold. Restarting it will take much, much longer.
The economic effect in the city from the global pandemic has been striking: Hundreds of thousands are already out of work; at least US$7.4 billion (S$10.55 billion) in tax revenue is projected to be lost by the middle of next year.
And the changes will be felt long after New York begins to reopen its economy.
How New York City, the epicentre of the United States outbreak, begins to recapture its vibrancy is a question consuming political, business and cultural leaders.
The very features that make New York attractive to businesses, workers and tourists - Broadway, the subway system, world-class restaurants and innumerable cultural institutions - were among the hardest-hit in the pandemic. And they will take the longest to come back.
Half of the hotels in the city are not operating, and with no reliable forecast for when tourists might return, many may stay shut.
Nearly the same portion of the city's smallest businesses - some 186,000 shops employing fewer than 10 people - could fail, city officials fear. Replacing them could take years.
The city's real estate and construction industries, major drivers of the local economy, have all but stopped. Millions of renters are struggling to make monthly payments, fuelling concern over a cascading crisis in the housing market if rent goes unpaid.
White-collar business and financial services companies, whose workers were mostly spared immediate layoffs in the shutdown, are forecast to see declining profits next year, and even losses. Some law firms have already pared down pay.
And with social distancing guidelines likely to be necessary for the foreseeable future, all facets of New York's work life will take on new rules, routines and costs.
"I don't think the New York that we left will be back for some years," said Mr Gregg Bishop, commissioner of the city's small businesses agency. "I don't know if we'll ever get it back."
New York is not the only metropolis in the world struggling with how to safely reopen businesses and cultural centres in dense urban settings, but no city has been more devastated by the pandemic.
The virus has claimed more than 13,000 lives in New York City, a figure that includes roughly 4,400 victims who had never tested positive for the virus but were presumed to have died of it.
President Donald Trump has sought swift re-openings across the United States. And on Monday, three Southern states moved toward doing so: South Carolina allowed retail shops to open with social distancing guidelines, and the governors of Georgia and Tennessee announced plans to soon ease restrictions on businesses.
But in New York City, interviews with more than two dozen business executives, city and state officials and industry groups revealed the depths of the difficulties in doing the same, especially when the coronavirus is still filling hospitals and hundreds are still dying each day.
The city's Independent Budget Office forecast that 475,000 people would lose their jobs over the next year; other economists have put the job loss far higher: 1.2 million by the end of April, mostly in low-wage jobs in restaurants, retail or transportation.
And whole industries, gone overnight, do not as quickly return.
In the late 1970s, "It took four or five years for a lot of the city to empty out," said Ms Kathryn Wylde, president of the Partnership for New York City, a non-profit business group.
"It took three or four decades to bring them back."
New York City has been the centre of calamity before - the Sept 11 terror attacks, the 2008 banking crisis, the 1970s fiscal crisis - and each time, economic life bounced back, stronger but also scarred.
"The obituary of New York City has been written more than once," said Mr James Whelan, head of the Real Estate Board of New York, an industry group. "And it's always been proven incorrect."
But no other crisis saw the city shut down as profoundly, or for as long. Nothing before has caused public life to simply halt, everywhere, at once, nor called into question the very thing that distinguishes New York City: its concentration of people and its street life.
Large and mid-size companies are beginning to plan for a return to the workplace, in phases. Some are thinking about how to use their existing office space when workers cannot be packed together as tightly, and questioning how much they should be expected to pay for it.
"Because of the need for social distancing, that space is far less valuable," said Mr Neil Blumenthal, one of the co-chief executives at Warby Parker, the glasses company headquartered in SoHo.
"We're all going to need more space, or use it less."
City officials and business leaders privately expressed concern that, with executives seeing just how well their companies could operate remotely, some might decide to downsize, or move out of New York City altogether.
Others worried that workers from around the country and the world would think twice about relocating to the city - for at least for a few years - and that those already here might move out.
"Nobody wants to get the economy going more than me," Governor Andrew Cuomo said on Saturday (April 18).
"The tension is when you start to open business, you start to have gatherings, you put people on a bus, you put people on the subway, you put people in a retail store," he said. "Then you're going to see more infections. You see that infection rate rise and then you're going to be back to where we were."
The economic pressure on the city's finances is stark: Last week, Mayor Bill de Blasio released a gloomy US$89.3 billion executive budget that slashed US$2 billion in municipal services; the Independent Budget Office suggested that the loss in tax revenue may be even worse than the city was predicting.
Because the city's economy is densely interwoven, reviving it is likely to be a halting process.
Swiftly shutting down the city's more than 25,000 restaurants and bars was one thing. But getting customers back may not be a matter of simply allowing them to reopen, even with servers in masks and gloves and diners ordering from an app on their phones.
"When are companies going to start hosting events at restaurants and bars again?" said Mr Andrew Rigie, executive director of the New York City Hospitality Alliance, a non-profit association for the restaurant and nightlife industry. "When are the tourists going to start coming back?"
That is a question that has been haunting Broadway and the rest of the city's entertainment sector as well.
As recently as February, New York City's tourism promotion arm, NYC & Co, had been predicting a record number of annual visitors in 2020. That forecast has since been scrapped, and no new projections offered.
"How are we going to come back? There's no playbook," said Mr Vijay Dandapani, the president of the Hotel Association of New York City, an industry group.
Tourists account for nearly 300,000 direct jobs in New York City, according to the Centre for an Urban Future, eclipsing the number of jobs in finance and nearly twice as many as in the city's tech sector.
But tourists are not likely to come back to a closed city, and the sorts of activities that draw crowds and visitors - parades, performing arts, museums, sports, festivals - are likely to be among the last parts of the local economy to reopen.
The Metropolitan Opera is weighing whether it can restart its programming in September. Broadway is bracing for a similar delay.
And a reopened Broadway could be a changed experience, said Ms Charlotte St Martin, president of the Broadway League, a trade organisation.
"We could see masks. We could see certificates of Covid-19-free status," Ms St Martin said. "We could see fewer shows."
There is broad agreement that the return of economic activity would rely heavily on expanded public health measures, including a huge increase in testing and a robust system for tracking down and isolating those who might be infected.
Commercial office tenants are already discussing how to implement temperature checks at building entrances. Companies are looking at staggered schedules and having fewer employees per square foot of office space.
The trouble is, business leaders and executives say, once those measures are in place, office workers in industries like financial services and technology may not feel the pressure to return quickly.
"We have the luxury; people are working well from home," said Ms Mary Good, chief people officer at Squarespace, a technology company headquartered in the West Village.
"What we're looking at are things like air flow, pathways around the office, conference rooms. Even things like elevators."
Another major factor in the city's ability to return is the city's subways and buses - and so far the Metropolitan Transportation Authority has not articulated a safe service plan.
Riders and transit workers have recently been required to wear a face mask on a crowded subway car or bus.
But the system is operating with less than 10 per cent of its ridership: On Thursday, the city's subway system had 470,000 passengers. The same day last year, it had 5.9 million.
Cities across Asia and Europe have added floor markings to encourage social distancing and provided hand sanitiser. In China, officials have limited capacity on buses to 50 per cent, and riders have their temperature taken at checkpoints in train stations.
"It's premature to make decisions, but we are looking at what the best practices are around the world in areas with transit agencies that have been affected by the pandemic," said Mr Patrick J. Foye, chairman of the MTA.
In the construction industry, union officials and builders are discussing how to maintain health and safety standards when the city's roughly 35,000 dormant construction sites reopen.
State officials believe construction could be among the early sectors to return to work, along with manufacturing, because steps can be taken to keep factories and job sites safe and because working from home is not possible.
But just lifting restrictions does not guarantee a return to the way things were.
"We believe that there is a way for them to mitigate any risk of transmission in their workplace," said Mr Robert Mujica, the state budget director. "But you need to have demand."
On the real estate side, brokers have yet to figure out how to navigate a new challenge to their work: Buildings are not allowing potential buyers to tour homes for sale, depressing interest and sales.
"The market is non-existent," said Mr Richard Steinberg, a real estate broker at Douglas Elliman.
More immediately, hundreds of thousands are now struggling to pay bills and meet the rent; some activists have called for a rent strike next month.
Local Democratic politicians, including Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and state lawmakers in Albany, have sought more governmental assistance for renters.
Industry executives and budget watchers fear the effects massive non-payment of rent would have on the ability of some landlords to make routine payments, increasing the risk of delinquency and possibly foreclosure.
"Rent is part of the lifeblood of the economy," said Mr Andrew Rein of the non-profit Citizens Budget Commission.
At Warby Parker, the re-opening is going to come in at least three phases, said Mr Blumenthal.
The company - part technology firm, part retailer, part manufacturer - provides a kind of blueprint for how to return.
The first phase has already begun at its factory for cutting and fitting lenses just outside the city, considered essential business under state rules.
"We've even rearranged our production lines to ensure social distancing," Mr Blumenthal said.
There are staggered lunch hours, and mandatory hand-washing every hour.
The next phase would involve reopening stores, of which the company has 10 in New York.
The last people to return to work, Mr Blumenthal said, would be the company's roughly 300 corporate office workers, based in its SoHo headquarters.
Even then, life will be different.
"We're not going to be able to have 100 per cent of our team show up to work every day at the same time," he said.

Neutral Element - Outside the Castle
Installment Masterlist
Characters: Rescue Party, Gil, Klaus, Lucrezia, Agatha; Relationships: Wulfenbachs, Agatha/Lars and Agatha/Gil; Length: 2k. Immediately after no bless obli cheese.
The Jägers are definitely going to go after Agatha, so Zag jumps them before they’ve even started conferring. Because he knows Jägers well from working with the ones crashing with the Empire, and once they decide to plot the turnover rate from plan to action is functionally nonexistent. He sneaks up where they’re listening in from a wagon roof like creepy gargoyles and leans over the silent trio. “You’re going to get her, yeah?” he says. “Take me with you.”
They exchange looks. “He iz hendy,” says Oggie.
“He iz Miz Agatha’s friend,” says Maxim.”
“Yah, you iz coming, keedo,” says Dimo.
“Ve couldn’t schtopp you enny vay, yah?” says Maxim, grin fierce.
“Come on den,” says Oggie cheerfully. “Toot-sveetie!”
“Nobbles and wobbly cheese, honestly,” Dimo mutters to himself for some reason.
 *
Circling the castle doesn’t tell them anything good. Zag scouts around and then shares the rundown of what people are saying, and what they aren’t, and how no news is bad news.
“And I’ve heard things around,” he adds, nodding up at the Keep of Storms. “About that place. Things I do not like.”
“Hyu mean like, in repports from somevere, mebbe?” says Ognian, trying for sly.
“Yes, alright, I get news from damn reports to my father,” says Zag. If they’re asking leading questions, they already know. They smirk at him sharply, but it seems approving. “That doesn’t matter right now. Right now we have to get her out of there. And that means we have to get in there.”
“Hm,” hums Dimo, looking through the arcs of lightning barring the way to the keep. “Hyu know, ven she was out-like, the other day, Miz Agatha met op with a pretty gorl — hoo, she looked like she could rilleh fight! — mit a verreh pretty little airship.”
“No, Hy dun tink dat vould be enny good,” says Oggie.
“Dot ting, hit looked pretty small, yah?” adds Maxim. “How many pipple you figure it fit?”
“Hy dunno, brodder,” adds Oggie, doing a show of looking Maxim up and down speculatively, “mebbe if ve start cotting bits off uf hyu —”
“Hoy dere!”
“She could get in, though,” Dimo reasons, demonstrating seasoned experience ignoring tomfoolery. “Hy think ve should be tellink her habout dis, before ve go in. Hyu know, in case she vants to help Miz Agatha, like.”
Zag stares up at the sky above the castle. “Hm. I think they would still notice a dirigible, even a small one. It’s dark out, and the lightning moat is going to kill visibility a bit, but this is a town square. It’s not that dark.”
“Iz not a dir-rigy-bill, zo much,” says Oggie.
“Hyu’s be growink op in de sky, yah?” says Maxim. “Mebbe hyu will like it.”
 *
“They have Agatha?!” says Gil, looking overwrought, and Zag thinks, Hmm, to himself, quietly. His friend should have options, is all. Lots of options. Lars is a real sweetheart, and the wild woman Agatha apparently found in the Wastelands does not look like a sweetheart, but she’s a spark, and Agatha is giong to need someone who can keep up with her….
Zag regards Agatha’s friend (hee) as she waves her hands and explains that her flying machine definitely would not get off the ground carrying five people and a lobster. “But I could make modifications,” she says, staring at it speculatively like she’s considering ripping it apart then and there. She was patting it earlier, so it’s kind of unsettlingly like watching someone turn that look on a baby. Sparks, amirite. Sparks in ~love~, possibly. Zag is assessing.
“See, the vertical blades spin to get it off the ground straight up, and then I basically drop it and then it stays airborne.”
“Iz dot…safe?” Oggie asks, goggling.
“So!” Zag cuts in before Gil can find some acceptable-to-her way to say, Well, no. “I’m glad you’re going to help us help Agatha! Apropos of nothing, how do they feel where you’re from about having three or more people in a relationship? Good? I’m asking for a friend.”
Gil drops the wrench she was gesturing with on her foot.
“You don’t have to answer!” Zag calls back to her when they finally take their leave. “Just think about it!”
 *
“Huh,” Gil says to Zoing after the odd party of Agatha’s friends starts  back the way they came, getting into some sort of scuffle that involves a lot of gentle elbow-checking, as she starts to prep her ship. “I didn’t think you got that hair color around here.” She looks at the Jägers. “Uh, in humans.”
 *
The way back is a trudge, but Dimo seems pleased with the results of their detour. “She iz definitely good beckup for Miz Agatha to keep hendy,” he says. “En mebbe also odder things.”
Oggie leans over into the green Jäger’s personal space. “Hyu tink she can help her vit dot vagon she kept svearing at de odder day?”
“Dot vos some spicy language, dot vas,” muses Maxim. “Vere hyu tink she learn dot?”
Dimo shoves at them both. “Hy am sayink —” He breaks off into a gusty sigh. “Zott, hyu are so dense.”
“Hy am not dense!” says Oggie, dramatically offended. “Hy am very schooled in matterz of luff! See? Hy even knew vat hyu vas tokking about. Hend you thot hyu vas beink schneaky. Heh.”
Dimo rolls his eyes. “Yez, yez, hyu heff shown me op. Woe, woe.”
“Not that I don’t appreciate the free entertainment,” says Zag (the Jägers shrug, sheepish at being caught at it), “but when did you three see that ship, anyway? She was explaining it to you like she’d never met you before.”
Dimo rubs the back of his neck. “Oh, hyu know.”
“Ve vas in de neighborhood,” says Maxim, eyes on the sky.
“Hy vas not op to ennything!” Oggie insists, distressed. “Honest!”
“…So you were following Agatha,” says Zag.
Maxim shifts, uncomfortable. “Vell…mebbe.”
Zag meditates on this, then reasons that the wild Jägers are pretty good guys and are also turning out to be surprisingly adorable about their real master. They were spying on Agatha on her dates. “Take me next time,” he settles on.
“Ey, vusn’t very interestink,” says Oggie, trace readings of shame gone. “Dey mostly tokked science schtuff.”
“Dot type, dey tink de interestink part iz de science schtuff.”
Everyone present groans.
 *
When the assembling rescue party gets back to the middle of Sturmhalten, again, they practically miss Lars. Also again, apparently.
“Been following you,” he says, breathing hard. “You keep moving around.”
Yeah, Zag can’t imagine an actor, capable point man or no, moving as quickly as three Jägermonsters and him, especially since he seems to have acquired a furry legwarmer, hooked into his leg for dear life. “You brought Krosp.”
Lars shrugs, a stage gesture. “He wanted to come!” Then he grimaces with his whole body when Krosp responds by flexing his claws. Also a stage gesture. Zag loves the Circus people, he honestly does. He thinks he could be at home in their “the world is a stage, so why not mug for the audience” mindset.
“So if you grabbed the Jägers because you knew they would come after Agatha,” says Lars, shaking out his cat-burdened leg (no joy) “— Uh, how did you know that?”
They’re Jägers, and she’s the Heterodyne. “They seemed to like her!” Zag says. He grins (leers, he leers) and nudges Lars with a playful elbow. “You like ‘er too, don’tcha?”
“I — !”
Tormenting Lars is a delight. Zag hasn’t known him very long, but he’s certain the guy isn’t normally this easy to fluster. Except about matters of life and death, which, whatever Agatha obviously privately thinks, is perfectly reasonable.
Krosp groans. (Krosp trying to make traditionally low human noises always sounds adorable, and this is no exception.) “I thought catching up with all of you might be better than being stuck with this genius, but I was wrong.”
Zag looks down at him. “…You’re gonna have to tell me what happened on your way here sometime, buddy.”
Lars and Krosp exchange a look of mutual, recent horror. Which is just the look of a half-decent story, so no regrets.
“Sewers,” Krosp whispers to himself quietly, his expression haunted.
 *
The Baron is framed by a brightly colored circus wagon, and it only makes him look more menacingly enormous. His swathe of silver hair is a chin-length version of Zag’s fluff without the two strands that frame his son’s face like thick ribbons. His gaze is riveted on Agatha and Zag, cutting out the rest of their crowd of allies. The Jägers finger their weapons; Lars looks like he’s on the edge of panic; Gil landed on the field nearby earlier but hasn’t approached. Krosp’s flicking tail detracts from the severity of his expression, and the Sturmhalten Sewermen look like they’re only still on the scene because bolting just then would make them the only moving things around, and if they were that dumb they wouldn’t have lived to be Sturmhalten Sewermen. To a one, they all stand around awkwardly. Gil hovers awkwardly to the side, and everyone else hovers awkwardly in the center. It’s not a brave day for rescue parties. The Baron’s speech to Agatha swallows up impetus for action.
“My son trusts you,” the Baron says meaningfully. His eyes cut back and forth between the swordsman and Agatha at this point, but Zag has always responded to Klaus’ allusions toward his romantic prospects by upping the ante and making the conversation as awkward and graphic as possible, so by this point Klaus is too subtly well-trained to ask about his motivations in running off with Lucrezia’s daughter. “If you both come back —”
Zag shakes out his shoulders, tense. “…You talk like it’s a given that I’m coming back with you, father.”
“Oh, no,” says Klaus. “The Lady Heterodyne, should she agree to talk terms, has her own responsibilities, but you will return. It’s time we had a long talk, young man.” The Baron looms forward, expression forbidding, and wraps his massive hand around Zag’s wrist.
And then chokes on something.
Agatha springs into action before anyone can blink. “Why are you all standing around?!” she shouts. “He’s choking! Let me through, I can help him!” The footsoldiers confer frantically and okay her, and she darts in.
“I’ll help, I’ve got medical experience!” says Gil, leaping forward.
“Oh, great!” chirps Agatha. Turning, she elbows Gil in the nose. “Oh, sorry! Here, I’ll just deal with it,” she says as the princess reels away, clutching her face.
She kneels to the ground, pressing a hand to Klaus’ chest.
“Stay back!” shouts Agatha. “He’s, uh, fructivorous!”
“Wot’s dot mean?” Oggie asks Gil, leaning over to consult her.
“Fzzrk,” says Gil, possibly trying to set her own nose. Her inarticulate response has a whistle in it.
Then the tide of the entire negotiation flips over in a breath, and everyone is moving.
 *
There’s a storm of motion. Lars and Agatha form its eye. The Jägers have leapt into the fight. The Sewermen  have vanished. Gil, her nose purpling, is bent over her ship ranting, and appears to be trying to refit it to use as an impromptu crowd disperser.
Klaus has given up on subtlety and negotiation, grabbing for his son. “You cannot stay with her!” he shouts at Zag, who grimaces and barely dodges. “You do not understand how dangerous — !”
“Hey!” says Gil, abandoning her ship and lunging forward with something she grabs from its backseat gripped in her right hand — it looks like a big fork with electricity dancing on the end — and one of her swords fisted in her left. “Get away from him!”
“Do NOT interrupt — !” starts the Baron, only half-turning from Zag. Gil darts into the space Zag has put between the two Wulfenbachs, fork thing aimed at the Baron’s torso, sword up to defend. Klaus raises his sword arm, his greatsword dripping crimson, then hesitates, eyes snagging on Gil’s snarling brass circlet, then darting to the bifurcated blade of her katar. His complexion turns from a red fury to an only arguably better putty color. “You — Djorok’ku Skifandias von?!”
Gil looks like she’s been smacked. “What — S’vek? Zur bakken Skiff?!”
“Kar!” The Baron presses a hand to his chest, greatsword mostly forgotten. “Mor bakken Skiff!”
“Morbukinskif vok!” says the blue coat by the Baron’s leg, which really puts a cap on Klaus’ day.
“What —” he says, and then is interrupted when the entire battlefield is overtaken by an upset like someone has picked it up and shaken it. The Baron and the Skifandrian dodge debris in opposite directions.
 *
The debacle with the chicken house and assorted other circus wagons ends with the Baron’s son, the Heterodyne Girl, and the mysterious foreign spark all unaccounted for.
Gil: What — What? You speak Skiff?! Klaus: Yes, I speak Skiff! Zoing: I speak Skiff too! Klaus: Augh what the shit
I do not feel bad about adding more pointless doubling back to the Rescue AT ALL, because the Rescue Party mostly runs in ineffective circles and facilitates a lot of really great comedy.
Lars’ arc is not significantly impacted by this AU. Unfortunately? I tried to scootch events surrounding “Showtime!” around to save him, but it didn’t work out.
Why did I structure this so I have to make up Skiff and then render it in Zoingspeak. @ me: What is this. Oh, right, Zoing is present and color-inverted, I’ll get into it later/earlier. Learlier.
When asked in an AMA whether all Skifandrians had green hair, both Foglios answered differently. For the purposes of this AU, the answer pretty much has to be no.

The NYC Hospitality Alliance held a press conference with six restaurant owners today demanding that Mayor de Blasio and Governor Cuomo propose a timeline and plan for indoor dining in NYC.
Indoor dining was originally set to begin on July 6th, as part of New York City’s Phase 3 reopening plan. Since then, indoor dining has been put off indefinitely and thousands of New York City restaurants are now operating their businesses outdoors. Many have also closed down permanently.
Beyond Mayor de Blasio stating that, “The most important thing is to get to a point where we have a vaccine,” there has been no further mention from either the mayor or Governor Cuomo about the possibility of indoor dining in New York City. Now, some restaurant owners are demanding a transparent plan.
NYC Hospitality Alliance Executive Director Andrew Rigie had questions: “Why can you eat indoors in Yonkers in West Chester County but you cannot eat indoors 100 yards down the street in the Bronx? Why are restaurants open indoors in Nassau County on Long Island but not in Queens? ”
Massimo Felici, the owner of Vinum in Staten Island, says, “It’s very frustrating that I have friends and people I know on Long Island - which is not far from where I’m at - that have been operating for the past six to eight weeks with partial inside and the outdoors, which I wish we had. We could use that revenue.”
Many of the restaurant owners on the call stressed that they don’t expect indoor dining to start immediately. One of them was Tren’ness Woods-Black, the owner of Sylvia’s in Harlem: “There is simply no way that we, being the greatest city for dining in the world, can continue going on like this...We’re not asking to open tomorrow, we’re asking for the simplest thing. A plan. Some input, some direction, some light at the end of the tunnel, some answers to questions that so many of our employees have.”
Chef and Owner of Casa del Chef Bistro in Woodside Queens, Alfonso Zhicay, stressed the ability to properly budget for the future of his business. “I would love to invest more in the future business-wise, but I have no idea what will happen in the next month, in the next two months.” He says he already spent money buying equipment on outdoor dining. “Were not making enough money back.”
Almost all of the restaurant owners on the call mentioned staff layoffs as a result of the pandemic. George Constantinou, the owner of Bogota Latin Bistro, said that he laid off 100 out of 130 of the employees at his three restaurants in Park Slope. He noted that he’s still paying rent at “pre-Covid rates” and paying off business loans.
The question of indoor dining is especially urgent as restaurant owners anticipate the fall and winter, when outdoor dining will likely no longer be feasible. The owner of Anella in Greenpoint, Blair Papagni, said, “The most difficult part of looking at anything past November is the idea of having to lay off my staff again.” She also noted that there has been no guidance from the government regarding the types of outdoor heaters restaurants can use. “Given that we now have examples of what’s working, give us a plan.”
