Another wonderful day with my dear friends visiting from school days to encourage and support me at the #NewDelhiWorldBookFair2020 . Govind Prasad and I were room mates in class 8th & 9th at Military School, Belgaum. We recalled how inspite of tough defence training we kept alive our creative gifts. Govind, is a gifted artist & painter and I was a budding poet & actor. Those were our flowers of free spirit... still hidden within armours of our professional and grahast roles. Ayushman Kaul and I studied hospitality together at IHM Goa. We were meeting after more than a decade. Remembering how hotel management transformed us from carefree students to hospitality professionals. And all the struggles we both had with culinary art! While we took different paths, we are grateful to hospitality industry for teaching us how to integrate masculine and feminine energies in a working profession! Some days, book festival build new relationships. Some days, they bring alive old connections. Filling my heart with deep gratitude to all my family, friends and alma mater who made me the person I am today! It was an honor to host Embodied Poetry Reading at Agami Summit with leading Law professionals, Judges, Police officers, Social Innovators, & Journalists. We read poems from the book “Trading Armour for a Flower” to reflect on deeper dimensions of sexuality & gender violence. We then created shapes with our bodies to represent how these emotions of stuck-ness show up in our lives. One of the powerful insight was— as a society, we need not just sex education but also acceptance and appreciation of sensuality within men and women-- to be more aware of our biological needs and boundaries. Perhaps this would heal the masculine and feminine energy and reduce sexual and gender violence. (This Embodied Poetry Dialogue was a part of a 2-day Agami Summit that I co-facilitated with the Agami team on Nov 29-30 in Bangalore. And here’s the title poem translated to Hebrew by Zohar from Israel. Interesting that she calls them “songs for healing the masculine-feminine divides”. That captures the essence of what this work is about. Zohar supports Red Tent women empowerment initiatives. Peter Senge’s recommendation on my book took me back to a memory 10 years back. When we gathered a group of innovative social entrepreneurs from around the world on a learning journey to Yucatan Mexico. In this pic Peter and I (alongwith Jimmy Leppert and Dennis Sandow) are admiring the magnificent pyramid of Uxmal. Photographer (Claudia Madrazo) has captured our awe, curiosity, innocence and wonder as we are confronted with a massive, ancient structure. It’s a perfect gesture for my journey with complex social systems that we are confronted with. I guess the Earth sensed my anxiety and brought me to this “flower”. She said “When it’s time, it will bloom and serve the whole.
