It's fine. I'm fine. It's just that Murderbot was giving Miki the silent treatment right before it died and realized too late that it actually had free will and wasn't programmed to be sweet and friendly. And that it genuinely considered Murderbot its friend.

One of my favorite parts of Rogue Protocol in the Murderbot Diaries series is in chapter 6, because it feels like such a relatable and genius move by author Martha Wells.

At this point in the story, Murderbot has a bunch of information about what's going on. There are some bad guys. There are some bad things that happened. But why? What's their goal? What are they going to do next?

And that's the exact thing that happens to me when I write a long fic. Even though I outline, I do enjoy letting the story shift and change as it goes. Eventually I reach a point where I have to stop and map out what the villain and other characters are doing, because they've gotten away from me. What do they want? What are they going to do to get what they want? How are we going to stop them?

It feels like the author took those questions and threw them at Murderbot to see what it would come up with. Murderbot created a decision tree and put it into the feed to crowdsource with the other characters. So we get to see the inner workings of the story plot as the characters figure it out.

I love that so much!

In early 2021, as talk of a Murderbot Diaries adaptation was underway, fans of the series started asking each other questions like, "What would we want to see from an adaptation of our favorite book series?" and "Wouldn't it be cool if this or that scene was animated?" and "Hey, don't YOU know some things about animation?" and "What if a bunch of fans got together to make a Murderbot fan animation?"

Two years of teamwork later, the Murderbot Diaries Fanimation Project presents our labor of love: a fully realized animation adapting scenes from the first four novellas into a trailer, dedicated to showcasing everything we love about the story of our favorite rogue SecUnit.
