小袋成彬　ロンドンのパブクイズを語る

小袋成彬さんがJ-WAVE『MUSIC HUB』の中でイギリスのパブ文化のひとつ、パブクイズについて話していました。

（小袋成彬）最近……何したかな？　ああ、あれに行きました。パブクイズに行きました。パブクイズって知ってます？　僕もこっちに来て初めて知った文化なんですけど。週に1回、パブでクイズ大会やるんですよ。本当にビンゴ大会みたいな感じで各パブに「毎週○曜日はパブクイズの日」みたいなのがあって。で、たまたま入ったストーク・ニューイントンのパブで友達と行ったんですけど。パブクイズをやってて。初めて参加しました。

で、パブクイズってどんな問題が出るかっていうと、もちろんいろんなねパブによって違うと思うんですけど、僕が行ったのは全60問。60問のうち20問くらいが時事ネタ。たとえば「今週、14年ぶりにマスターズ優勝したアメリカのゴルファーは？」みたいな。正解は「タイガー・ウッズ」ですけど。それが第1問です。いちばん最初。で、そっからめちゃくちゃ難しくなるんですよ。第2問目がね、たしか答えが「ブラックホール」だったかな？　どんな質問かは忘れたけど。

で、3問目からだんだんだんだん難しくなって。6問目ぐらいに「今週、バーミンガムでオープンした衣料品店は？」。正解は「プライマーク（Primark）」っていうやつなんですけども。もう全然知らないし。まあ、たぶん日本に住んでたら、「鳥取でユニクロができました」とかだったらまだわかるかしれないけど、ちょっとね、こっちでニュースを見てないとわかんないような問題ばっかりでしたね。

さまざまなタイプのクイズ問題

で、そこならまだいいんですよ。「General」っていう問題があって。いわゆる一般知識なんですけど、それがめちゃくちゃ難しかった。僕が正解したのはルーレットの盤面の三色……「黒、赤、緑」。あとね、質問は覚えてないんだよな。答えも覚えてないし。うーん。めちゃくちゃ難しかったっすね。あと、何を言ってるかわかんなかったっていうのもありますし。で、それがGeneralっていうクイズ。

あとね、イントロドンもあるんですよ。でもね、そのイントロドンがエド・シーランとか出てくれればわかるんだけど、70年代、80年代のね、何か聞いたことあるような曲ばっかり出るんですよ。それはね、1問も答えられなかったです。それが10問。あとはA4の紙に有名人の顔写真が30枚貼ってあって、その人の名前を答えるんですよ。で、1問目がメリル・ストリープだったかな？　メリル・ストリープはわかったんですけど「メリル」のスペルがわからないんですよね。（※ Meryl Streep）。

あとは4問目にね、マリア・シャラポワがあったんですけど、「シャラポワ」のスペルがわからない。（※ Maria Sharapova）。で、結局僕ら60問中10問正解かな？　あ、そうだ。日本人の人と行ったんでもちろんわかんなくて。10問しか分かんなかったな。そう。第1位のチームが50問正解だったかな？　たしか。めちゃくちゃすごかったっすね。めちゃくちゃ面白かったです。パブクイズっていう、ちょっとね、おじいちゃん・おばあちゃんがよくやる文化なんすよ。だから若者が参加するようなところではどうもないらしいんですけど。まあめちゃくちゃ面白かったんで、来週も行こうかなと思ってます。2曲目に行きます。Pan Amsterdamで『All Kindsa Don’t』。

お聞きいただいたのはPan Amsterdamで『All Kindsa Don’t』でした。この人はですね、謎のミュージシャンで。なぜ取り上げられたかっていうと、イギー・ポップが見つけたんですよ。彼が語るにはマイアミ沿岸の出身なんですけど、ニューヨークでもジャズミュージシャンだったと。でね、ラフ・トレード・ブリストルでライブしてる映像を見て僕、ファンになったんですけど。最近新譜が出たので紹介しました。まあ、ちょっと前かな？　最近ではないですけど。半年以内ですね。で、『The Pocket Watch』っていうアルバムが出たのでぜひぜひチェックしてみてください。
