im sure it's been said before, but i truly believe that the most logical conclusion for bucky's story arc after tfatws would've been for him to retire quietly in delacroix and spend the rest of his days living that civilian life and helping out where he's needed. it would be a great way for him to reconcile his time as the winter soldier in a healthy and productive way bc it would show him that, despite the decades of violence that he still feels guilty for (which he SHOULDN'T bc he was also a victim), his hands are still capable of doing good!

like, give me bucky continuing to help sarah with the heavylifting!!! give me bucky volunteering at the community garden!! give me bucky hearing about an 18 year old inheriting their parents' old home and immediately buckling on his toolbelt and going out there to help fix it up. give me bucky who agrees to foster miss mary's old bloodhound bc she's getting on in years and cant give her dog the care he needs.

and yk what? give me bucky using the respect his name garners for some chaotic good. the director of the cia is starting a team of gov-sanctioned "new avengers"? well, as sergeant james buchanan barnes of the 107th, longest serving POW of all time, he can and will tell folks exactly where the gov can shove their "new avengers". there's already an avengers team led by captain america and they're the ones who have his support!! the gov and pr hate him, and he's at peace with that.

like ofc im sure bucky would be ready to answer the call if there's a world-ending event and he's able to help. but also, he knows sam is out there and has it covered. bucky is happily retired.

I'm not gonna look at this episode as a midseason finale.

Can't remember if this was confirmed or not, but I'm pretty sure Tim didn't intend for 8x08 to be the actual finale for this half of the season. Given the episode count, it would've made more sense for it to be either 8x09 or 8x10.

So with that said, I'm gonna go in with no expectations.

I'm just gonna treat 8x08 as just another regular episode that's more than likely gonna contain some filler and unwanted plot lines, but whatever. And any Buddie interactions or mentions of Chris are gonna be scarce at best and non-existent at worst. But that's probably because the real Buddie/Buckley-Diaz content is gonna be in the episodes after this one.

So yeah, that's how I'm gonna approach things.

I think acting like Jimmy’s struggles on Earth were like legal or related to being a criminal are so odd. Not in a bad way but just odd.

Like don’t get me wrong, I personally believe he’s had a run in with the law but I feel like it’d be minor, not even something that would get him a record. It could’ve, but it was dropped, not worth the time to pursue someone that down on their luck, probably not a dime to his name.

He’s a bad guy don’t get me wrong but it’s seems like his issues were with not being well-adjusted? In the whole sense, he’s snarky and unnecessary rude. He’s quick to anger and says things to pit people against each other. He likely doesn’t have many friends and we know he’s not financially well. I think tacking on bad traits diminishes the fact of what he did. Trying to fit him to that obviously evil arch type is a little bland to what he actually is. He’s normal enough to be a minor blip on the radar and that’s how he gets away with what he does.

Jimmy is ultimately scared of being in trouble. He gets into it but panics. He hates being confronted and he just doesn’t do things were he knows or perceives a bad outcome will happen to him.

Canonically his dad is a cop and there are a couple jokes about his parents not loving him, dudes dad straight up said "actually, do we love you?" Like sir damn anyways im taking that and running with it SO

Giving him a fucked up situation of him and his dad always butting heads and both of them escalating things constantly, and as he got older the ends to the arguments went from getting grounded or punished to getting kicked out or Duncan just leaving, probably escalating to his dad kicking him out semi regularly and eventually his mom or dad telling him to come back home to make a kinda fucked up cycle

And like i know they gave the convict kid a cop dad for the laugh like its not that deep at ALL

but like that sets up sucha fucked power dynamic and i want to use that

and we never find out what got Duncan sent to juvie for the first time, its said off screen while some characters are spilling embarrassing or dark secrets and in my fucked up world either he accumulated a couple charges while he was kicked out, indirectly the fault of his dad

or worse but more tempting

he got kicked out and his dad arrested him for trespassing

so like idk i just love the idea of a pyromaniac, vandal convict who has no respect for authority or mutual trust having the tragic backstory that his first time getting arrested was at the hands of his father
