I would just really like to read a fic where WWX regrets how he treated LWJ before dying (specifically with LWJ constantly warning him that demonic cultivation was dangerous and WWX brushing him off and turning down his offers for help etc). While I do want WWX to apologize and be held accountable, I absolutely want happy Wangxian to be together and a fluffy ending for them! (also please nothing with JC bashing, if anything I'd prefer a fic where they have a strong brotherly relationship and WWX apologizes to him as well but my main concern is Wangxian). hello!! 👀 (for the au ask game)?

Hello!! This is so extremely belated, I'm very sorry.

One AU I will never write is one I've outlined loosely in its entirety (so maybe I should just post the outline?) and it's the AU where Jin Ling is a cis girl. This is one of my earliest attempts to answer the question "what would actually make Jiang Cheng happy?" and it involved the conclusion of "Jin Ling living in Lotus Pier and inheriting without the sect being absorbed into the Jin." And I felt like I could make it happen for girl!Jin Ling!

Because the Jin Sect especially sucks, Jin Ling being a girl removes her from the line of succession. She's still given to Jiang Cheng to care for, and like canon Jin Ling, she splits time between both sects with the understanding that she still technically belongs to the Jin, despite them being unwilling to make her sect heir. After Jin Guangshan dies, Jin Guangyao and Jiang Cheng come to an unofficial agreement that she will marry a Jiang disciple of suitably high cultivation and rank and inherit the sect that way.

Jin Rusong, the only available male heir who's not Mo Xuanyu, is watched like a hawk and doesn't get murdered. (I am agnostic re: whether Jin Guangyao had him killed or not. Either way, needing a direct heir and there being more of a reason to expect Rusong to be at risk are both elements that could change the outcome there.) He's a very sweet kid, and much, much smarter than he looks, but he is spoiled to pieces, including by Jin Ling. That's her cute baby cousin! Of course he can have everything he wants!

Qin Su, having her son to protect, does not commit suicide despite finding out about the incest (although she ain't doing too good). The incest is also not revealed publicly. Unfortunately, an Evil Jin Elder—Jin Chan's grandfather—finds out about it somehow.

When Jin Ling returns to the Jin Sect to protect Jin Rusong and investigate Jin Guangyao's secret room, she gains access to—among other things—a treasure trove of blackmail material about the Jin elders.

The Evil Jin Elder, not wanting to be blackmailed or publicly dragged up on charges, blackmails Qin Su into using Jin Ling to fulfill an old written offer of marriage from the Lan sect. This solves a number of different problems for him: no more secret sect investigation, weakens Jin Rusong's faction, reaffirms now-shaky relationship with the Lan. So many birds with one stone! Qin Su is not about this but is also very, very desperate to remain in her position in order to protect Jin Rusong.

Jin Ling wakes up, bound hand and foot, in a carriage to the Lan sect, without her bow, Suihua, or Fairy. (Despite being all tied up, she still resists strenuously with her teeth. "Why does she even need that dog," says one of Evil Jin Elder's henchmen bitterly, as they haul her from carriage to palanquin.) Once there, she learns that the offer specifies a member of the inner family, but not who; and that a certain faction of elders is proposing that she be married to Lan Xichen, i.e. her uncle's secret boyfriend who killed him.

Jin Ling has never gone along quietly with anything she didn't like in her entire life. Her escape involves Lan Qiren, Lan Jingyi, Wei Wuxian, and Li'l Apple on a boat.

Story 1 is the story of how Jin Ling becomes the (still unmarried) heir to the Jiang sect, and it's pre-lingyi. Story 2 involves her eventual marriage, since, as Jiang Sect heir, Jin Ling needs to find a husband. She proposes (like the great-granddaughter of Genghis Khan) that any potential husband has to beat her in a contest that she chooses. Then she has to frantically brainstorm a contest of martial prowess that Lan Jingyi can beat her at. (Wrestling. It's wrestling. This is 100% because Lan Jingyi sucks at so many things and not an excuse for her to get wrestled to the ground by the goofy Lan boy with the very nice arms, Jin Rusong, how dare you insinuate things of that nature—)

Nobody asked for it but here are some Rapunzel/Imprisonment AU rambles

Backstory: Instead of Dying™️, WWX gets imprisoned underground by JGY for the low low price of torture and No Legs bc a prisoner that in every sense of the word can’t run away is easier to handle, right?

Anyway, he gets threatened into compliance and is mostly solitary until JGY brings him a new guest.

“Not a prisoner,” he says with the same smile. “Just something to look after.” And dumps tiny toddler Jin Rusong on WWX.

He doesn’t want to kill his son, however misfortuned he is, and WWX’s reactions have been lacking lately. Giving him something new to care for is just the preferable method.

Jin Rusong becomes Wei Wuxian’s Lan Bao, a little treasure handed to him in a basket. It’s a different Lan, he’s not projecting, no. In any case, Lan Bao grows up in a small room with steady candlelight, but no daylight. His father draws on their walls and ceilings, everything he reads from books so that a-Bao has a vague idea of the outside world. He was too young when brought to the dungeon to recall much.

JGY visits… less. Xue Yang more. There’s a trade off there, somewhere.

Well, time passes and enter stage left: WWX’s longest fucking con. A minimal but perfected disguise talisman, something to fool the guards, and his kid is free to go. WWX isn’t but, he can’t walk and a ten year old can’t carry him, but that’s alright. He’s been dead to the world for a while.

Lan Bao escapes in a truly particular show of a child who already had some health issues and been raised under terrible conditions, is now out in the world again, and, against the original plan of living well somewhere far away, he hides in the departing Lan contingent.

Enter stage left: Lan Sizhui opening their luggage to find a ten-year-old squinting at him. Said ten year old won’t say where he’s from or how he got there or what is wrong with him (WWX did his best, but really, you can’t raise a kid like that).

Enter stage even further left: LWJ and his empty nest syndrome Need To Do Right By WWX’s Memory. The kid needs help and support and he can do that.

Now count down time until WWX finds his prison cell kicked in by his savior

LWJ will forever see it as fate that he got to raise both of WWX’s children, WWX is mostly bewildered neither child knew the meaning of stranger danger. Sizhui was a toddler and knew LWJ but Lan Bai really should’ve known better. They had a plan.

It's my birthday today so i decided to be super self-indulgent and to design and name all Xiyao babies for the Jiaoren AU UvU

You might recognize name from other chinese novel bc i suck at naming.

Anyways i blame the insomnia earlier this week for the absurd number of babies and all that follow :

-1st baby is Jingyi of course, very proud, like chicken the most, his tail is white and blue but his skin has a yellowish glow. You know Jingyi he is pretty much like in canon.

-2nd Baby will be Rusong, who is very long (longer than Jingyi) and has A-Yao's hair floof. He is a lot like his uncle Wangji, (come on king give us nothing!!) probably a bit on the autistic spectrum. He likes to bite and chew on people and float on the pond.

-3rd baby is Haojun (name is Meng Shi 's chinese voice actor) She is very much like her grandmother and her tail color has pink/purple hue like Meng Shi's (but you see more the yellow and the blue). She likes her fathers the most and when A-Yao tried to make her float like a baby otter she cried when he disappeared and LXC had to swim and get her back

-4th baby is Haikuan (name of LXC's actor in CQL), he is a lot like LXC but with A-Yao's colors (yellow for the tails and brown hair) He seems always happy enthusiastic / kind and encouraging. He can be a bit exhausting sometimes because he gives everything his 100% Picture Drunk LXC. He also has the longest tail of all the guppies.

-5th baby is Zanjin (Name of JGY's actor in CQL) he is a lot like his father (A-Yao) but with black Lan hair, he likes shiny things and tiny animals, peace and quiet. He keeps gifting the people he loves with pearls and shells.

-6th baby is Lingwen (name from TGCF, Ling Wen, i hope the contraction is okay) - She is a quiet child, looks a lot like her Lan grandma. Her tail is blue and greenish. She looks super composed but she is the one that can hisses and bites you without a warning.

-7th and 8th are twins Yueyan and Qiyan (Qiyan is from a girl's love chinese novel) their tail are yellow and blue. Yueyan is very much like Lan Xichen and Qiyan a lot like JGY, very close they speak a language only they understand sometimes.

And last ones are 9th and 10th, twins Fengxi and Fuyao. The first human pregnancy JGY got and he was like "finally a human baby !! and he got somehow a dragon baby first. It wasn't a fun time in the labor room. Then he got Fuyao and Fuyao looked very much human and while JGY tried to get his dragon baby undercontrol LXC tended to Fuyao and Fuyao opened his mouth and showed VERY NIT HUMAN FANG (like picture the dragon in how i met your dragon, toothless and then suddenly POOF SHARP TEETH AND CHOMP)

LXC : ...Hm...I'm afraid this one is not completely human like you wanted A-Yao.

JGY : *looks at Fuyao as Fengxi decided he was going to live inside his father's collar robe* they're human enough. No more children.

(they will have more children maybe in 20 years or so but for now it's enough)

Fengxi does not like human, he only tolerates family and hides in his fathers' robe and sleeve all the time. He attacks people who harm his siblings. He likes to steal things that belongs to his family and hoard them all like it's treasure. He probably shifted into his human form the lastest among the guppies, probably near adulthood.

PS : they all have dimples and LXC is the happiest about it.

I also decided for the epilogues children of all the others ship and let me tell you...insomnia was strong.

Wangxian is definitely competing to have as many babies as Xiyao but for now they just say they're competing against ChengQingSang so they can say they're winning (JC's competitive strike is calmed down by his spouses)

a wild concept because i got sad and i WILL practice zanzan levels of acrobatics to unsad myself: what if jrs lives and he’s a lan but he’s Not jingyi. like idk. jgy suspects something’s going to Happen and he puts a couple of neat little (but powerful) charms on him and has someone drop him off in some village. that way he has approximately as much of a chance of living as in jinlintai, in theory. here he can simply die of hunger, unnoticed, but if someone chooses to take him, they can be poor, he can fall ill, maybe someone murders him simply, because it just happens; in jinlintai, well. well.

so the boy who used to be jin (name) courtesy rusong grows up with elderly parents; he doesn’t remember his first dad or mom, although he can do the things a normal, healthy child his age could do; it’s as if he just came into existence at the age of (insert age), out of thin air. but he’s very thankful to the parents that found him, and he helps his father at work and his mother at cooking and taking care of their little house. for some reason, he also has a penchant for arts and books -- he always points it out when he thinks something’s pretty, and he has such a memory for stories and news, even though no one’s taught him that. outside of that, he’s a bit of an airhead and can be shy around other kids, but eventually he warms up to them and sometimes he goes with them to the river, or just wanders around (but he has to come back before it gets really dark). he doesn’t make many good friends, in fact, the other boys sometimes seem to forget he exists, or struggle with recalling his name, and the girls -- well, it’s almost like they don’t even notice he’s a boy! which is not something he’s telling his parents, but it’s a bummer either way. still -- it doesn’t stop him from hanging out with others, having fun and so on, so he lives on, why not.

so years pass and he’s maybe like around fifteen, and his father has passed away so he’s just living with his old mom. and he’s finishing it up in the field when he hears a scream from the house and he runs but there’s no more screaming and he hopes that it’s because it’s alright now, maybe mother has saw a mouse or slipped and fell--but someone grabs him by his collar and there are lights coming from inside his house, and more screams but those are definitely not his mother’s, and then it’s all blurry because sometime around being caught and being released he began to cry, but -- hello, we’re lan cultivators, there’s been a bloodthirsty fucking Thing and it chose your mother to feed, our condolences.

and maybe there’s some senior disciple with them who’s feeling particularly bad about this village dude who’s just lost his old mother -- if she was this old and he’s this young, then he must have been really, really loved, and the disciple just realizes how much it sucks, why isn’t hanguang-jun there to solve this problem somehow, aughhh he’s not that much older than this newly-minted orphan boy! anyway, they end up taking him with them.

well, he’s grieving, so he’s not the best partner for either conversation or travel, but in general, the senior disciple notices he’s kind of smart and listens with rapt attention when they talk about cultivator stuff -- for example, when he explains something to the juniors -- so he hopes that maybe he’ll do as a disciple, even though he’s like. old. too old. ohh god what has he done

also, he’s got something on his face. on his whole person, really, and the senior disciple isn’t sure what it is, but--it’s definitely something. if he had to be super specific, well, his features are pretty plain, but it’s unnerving how he can’t really describe his face once he stops looking at him. normally he’d be able to say -- oh, he’s had a round or square face, thin or bushy eyebrows, broad or thin nose, but with this dude? nothing. is wei-qianbei’s horrible memory starting to rub off on him? is this village kid who’s never interacted with a cultivator carrying a curse on himself? who knows! that is. probably hanguangj-jun will know. gotta bring it to him

Usually, they drop off clothes with a laundress in the nearest village, but that's not an option today. As Zewu-Jun clears a section of the forest floor and collects water, Jin Rusong fetches twigs and branches, enough to get a fire going. He stokes it and then flops down sideways on the gnarled roots of a nearby stump, sorts out rations from his qiankun pouch.

Wandering isn't much like he'd thought it be. Somehow, he'd imagined it would be a lot cleaner. He's grateful for the down time.

As the sun crawls towards its bed, Jin Rusong realizes that he hasn't heard Zewu-Jun's aimless humming for a while. Also, the bloody robe he'd hung over the branch is gone. He gets up and pokes the fire a bit more before calling out his uncle's title. Gratifyingly, Lan Xichen answers: "Only a few more moments!"

When he returns, it's with an armful of damp clothing. Befuddled, Jin Rusong helps him string up a length of twine between sturdy branches. They hang up the robes together: there's not a stain on them.

"Huh," says Jin Rusong, inspecting the arm of his outer robe. There's a few tears, but nothing Jin Rusong can't fix, thanks to hours of lessons. "I didn't know you knew how to do laundry, Uncle."

Zewu-Jun doesn't say anything, but there's a look around his eyes that tells Jin Rusong not to press. He's gotten good at not pressing.

They sit across the fire from each other once they've eaten. Normally they talk about the night hunt, and if they expect any problems, and where they might like to go next. At this point, they've been all through Gusu; it's time to spread out into another Sect's Territory. The question is just whose, since they should probably, like, ask permission. Tonight, Zewu-Jun is cleaning Shuoyue and his mien is... quiet.

Jin Rusong startles when Zewu-Jun asks, "Do you truly have no blame for me?"

His brow furrows. His mouth curves. It all happens before he can stop it. He wishes it hadn't. He wants to assure his uncle that there's nothing he blames Lan Xichen for, but that would be facile. He's trying to cultivate honesty alongside his golden core, lately. It's a good tool to have in one's arsenal.

"There's a Jin Sect precept," says Jin Rusong to the fire, "something about... not standing by your father's blood, I think. So, probably I should." And he shakes his head. There's something nebulous there, some kind of low resentment that brews in his gut when he thinks too much about the last months of his father's life. It doesn’t bear examination, because: "But he tried to kill you. Should I be trying to avenge that? Either way, I wouldn't have had him. Would it be better to lose you, too?" He shrugs. The gesture is lowborn and he’s not sure where it came from. It’s all he can think of to do.

Zewu-Jun looks away. "Of course," he says. "I understand." He says nothing more of it.

A) The first one begins with wei ying and lan zhan's death - mo xuanyu's core is not strong enough to help wei ying reach immortality just prolongs his life. lan zhan decided he does not want immmortality if wei ying is not with him so lan zhan shares/sustains wei ying and himself with his golden core until he runs out of energy and they die toghether in the jingshi. However, next thing you know they are in the past. That is all i can remember

B) The second one i don't remember much - just that there is a part in the fanfic where wei ying finds out about lan zhans scars and how he got them. They end up in the cold spring/cold pond and wei ying somehow heals all of lan zhans scars using energy? while there. Not sure if it is spiritual or resentfull? After i know Lan zhan ends up in front of the gusu lan elders i don't remember why ther find out that wei ying has cured him/healed his back scars because they are gone - his back is smooth again and wei ying appears in front of the elders to threaten them no to hurt lan zhan. I have no idea if this time line would work, but MYX and XY get attached to each other, so when the time comes that MYX and XY need to leave Koi Tower, JGY helps them get married in secret and run away to Dongu. Anyways, a few years latter, JGY has a kid that needs to go and people in a removed location that owe him favors! Isn’t that a wonderful combination! A Jin(?) Rusong raised by Uncles Mo and Xue, or whatever they go by these days, would be very chaotic. Bonus: they start a relatively safe demonic cultivation sect, maybe with some guidance from the Nie (has NMJ never been killed by the Jin in this Au?), or more specifically, Huaisang. SL and XXC who got a happy ending decide to check out this no blood line sect (it looks slightly dubious, but surely can’t be to bad! Right?) A-Qing at least is enjoying her new friend -🟪🦋

“I won’t,” Mo Xuanyu said, clutching Xue Yang’s arm. “I won’t, I won’t! You’re my only friend here!”

Xue Yang looked down at him in what he thought was mostly exasperation, but might have also been a little fondness – after all, if it’d been anyone else who’d grabbed him, he’d have stabbed them.

He still didn’t know why he didn’t stab Mo Xuanyu, too, but in all honesty, he wasn’t that interested in exploring it. He did what he wanted, and right now, he didn’t want to murder Mo Xuanyu.

Irritating as he sometimes was.

“Little brat,” he said. “I have important business to go do.”

“It’s not something that he ordered, though!”

“So what?” Xue Yang bristled. “I don’t just do what hetells me!”

“But that means he won’t cover for you, and that means you’ll get in trouble!” Mo Xuanyu argued. “How can I let you go all alone to get in trouble? You have to take me with you! What will you do without me? Who’ll keep you entertained and sneak sweets for you if not for me?”

Xue Yang’s lips twitched. Okay, maybe there was a reason he kept the brat around.

“You don’t understand,” he said. “This is something I’ve got to do – something I’ve wanted to do for a long time. I’m going to kill a lot of people and get into a lot of trouble, more trouble than ever before. I’ll probably lose my life. How can I possibly take you with me?”

Mo Xuanyu scowled up at him. It was a very weak scowl – barely more than a pout. “You think that’s going to make me not want to come with you?”

Xue Yang’s eyebrows went up. “You cry at the sight of blood!”

“I cry at a lot of things!”

Xue Yang wasn’t sure how to respond to that. It was true, Mo Xuanyu cried at a lot of things.

“Maybe if I come with you, it won’t be so bad!”

Yeeeeah, Xue Yang wasn’t going to count on that.

“Or maybe you don’t have to go…?”

“I have to go,” he explained. “If I don’t go, I can’t get revenge, and I have to have revenge.”

Mo Xuanyu blinked up at him.

“I don’t really understand, but okay,” he said, and tugged on his arm. “Let’s go together, then. I promise I won’t cry!”

“Stop fucking crying.”

“Just – ugh. Listen. You’re ruining the mood.”

“If you can’t stop crying, go away. Now. Or I’ll stab you!”

“Okay, see, look, I just killed the leaders, see? Just the old men. Everyone else is just locked in their rooms. Once the sect leader comes back, I’ll kill him too, and that’ll be all. Okay? Everyone else lives. I promise. Now stop crying, okay?”

“I don’t want to know,” Jin Guangyao said when they got back. “I don’t want to know at all.”

“Good,” Xue Yang grumbled. “I don’t want to talk about it.”

“Enough people heard about the reason for what you did that opinions are mixed as to whether your actions were the Chang clan’s just rewards for their former misdeeds or if they were actually wrong,” Jin Guangyao said. He looked irritated. “But you still killed high-ranking members of a sect, and you left enough alive that they’re demanding your head on a platter. You’re going to need to run away.”

Mo Xuanyu hesitantly gestured as if he wished to speak.

“Yes, you can go with him. Now that my father is dead, no one cares where you are.”

Mo Xuanyu beamed.

“You’re just going to let us go?” Xue Yang asked suspiciously. “That seems unlike you. What’s in it for you?”

“Oh, I’m not just going to let you go. I’m going to give you money, too,” Jin Guangyao said. “And all you need to do for me is one little tiny favor –”

Pity that that was when Xue Yang stopped listening, too busy staring at Mo Xuanyu’s delighted face and counting all the way he was in for it now.

“I’ve always wanted to take care of a baby,” Mo Xuanyu said happily.

“Good for you,” Xue Yang said darkly as he stalked through the streets.

He would rather that Jin Guangyao had needed a body buried and a death covered up or something – and judging by the baby’s perturbed expression, it probably agreed with him. Fuck, maybe Jin Guangyao had meant for them to murder the baby once they got it far enough out of the way. It was just as plausible as Mo Xuanyu's assumption that they were supposed to take care of it.

Damnit, maybe he should have been listening.

“Listen, neither of us are equipped to handle a baby. Go find a woman to help us – someone poor and helpless who doesn’t have any other choice.”

“Okay!”

Xue Yang shut his eyes. “What exactly,” he said slowly, “did you think I asked you to get us a woman for, exactly?”

“To…watch the baby?” Mo Xuanyu guessed. “When we’re busy or sleeping? Anyway, what’s wrong with A-Qing, anyway? She’s nice!”

“I’m not nice,” A-Qing said. The damn brat was smirking – and for once it wasn’t his damn brat, but some blind brat with a cocky expression. “I stole your wallet and you burst into tears and it was really embarrassing.”

“He does that,” Xue Yang said wearily. At least he’d noticed the theft this time – all of his lessons in ‘how not to be a sucker and get constantly taken advantage of’ were maybe having something of an impact. Maybe. “For some reason I’m apparently into it.”

He couldn’t explain it any other way.

“…loser.”

“I will stab you,” Xue Yang threatened. “I don’t care if you’re blind.”

“Won’t someone tell me why A-Qing isn’t a perfectly good babysitter?” Mo Xuanyu demanded. He was holding the baby in his arms again – the baby liked him more than it did Xue Yang, which meant that between Mo Xuanyu and the baby, the baby had better self-preservation instincts – and he was trying his best stern scowl which was of course barely more than a pout and a so-called ‘fierce’ expression that made Xue Yang want to laugh.

Not even Mo Xuanyu’s horrific make-up skills could make thatface intimidating. Or maybe it was just that the person behind the face was just so completely unthreatening that there was no help for it?

“Well? Tell me!”

Xue Yan opened his mouth, then shrugged and shut it again.

A-Qing patted Mo Xuanyu on the shoulder. “I’m too young. No milk.”

“…milk?”

“You know. The thing babies eat?”

“…milk,” Mo Xuanyu repeated, only now he looked absolutely heartbroken at having failed the mission that Xue Yang had assigned him almost entirely just to get him out of the way while Xue Yang collected some spare cash and threatened their way onto a ride out of this piece of shit town.

“It’s fine,” Xue Yang said hastily. “We’ll just get a goat or something, I don’t know.”

“Okay, I actually only came here to laugh at you,” A-Qing said. “But now I’m legitimately worried about this baby. Don’t you two know anything? How’d you even get a baby, anyway?”

“Stop laughing. It’s not that funny.”

“Seriously. Stop laughing, or I stab you.”

“Don’t worry, A-Qing,” Mo Xuanyu said. “He doesn’t mean it! Threats are just how he expresses affection!”

“It most certainly is not.”

“That is absolutely amazing,” A-Qing said, wiping her eyes. “Best thing I’ve ever heard., if by best I mean worse-but-hilarious. I mean. If that’s what he considers affection, what must his flirting be like?”

“No one is flirting with anyone!”

“Are you going to leave at some point?”

“Obviously not,” A-Qing said. She’d caught the same ride as them, using Xue Yang’s cash no less – Mo Xuanyu had insisted that it was the least they could do after the whole milk misunderstanding, which was stupid, she ought to be paying them for wasting their time. Xue Yang couldn’t wait to get rid of her, although he had to admit that she’d been pretty useful in terms of putting on the ‘poor sad blind girl and her two brothers all alone in the world’ act to get them a room at the inn at prices even Xue Yang felt comfortable paying. “Are you joking? This is so much funnier than walking by myself. Anyway, I enjoy watching people crash and burn.”

“Aren’t you too young to be such a bitch?” Xue Yang hissed. “And, I don’t know, blind?”

“You know what I mean.”

“I don’t care what you –”

The sound of crying came from the other room.

It was quickly followed by a second set of crying.

Xue Yang felt the onset of a headache.

“…truce?” A-Qing suggested sweetly, as if she knew exactly how much it pissed him off and thought it was the funniest thing ever, which was…probably accurate, actually. “I’ll get the baby to stop crying if you do the same with Mo Xuanyu.”

Yeah, that was definitely a headache. The sort of headache called why do I like that brat.

Mo Xuanyu owed him so much candy for putting up with this shit.

“Fine,” Xue Yang said begrudgingly. “Truce. Temporarily. And then you leave!”

“So we live here now, huh?” A-Qing said, looking around the house they’d claimed. “That’s neat.”

“Why do you live with us again?” Xue Yang asked her, though by now he barely even meant it. A-Qing was clearly another one in the same mold as Mo Xuanyu: you just couldn’t say no to her…or, rather, you could, at length and top volume and with threats, only it just didn’t stick. “I definitely did not recall asking you to stay.”

Though it was nice to have someone else around that wasn’t going to get immediately ripped off by literally anyone who came their way. Mo Xuanyu’d started getting conned by the literal infant that they were taking care of – he was completely hopeless.

Also, questionably blind or not, at least A-Qing had no hesitation about beating people with her stick if they struck her the wrong way, which was a life approach Xue Yang agreed with wholeheartedly.

“She’s going to learn to cultivate!” Mo Xuanyu chirped from where he was applying his make-up. “Demonic cultivation, too! We had a whole discussion about it while you were out getting groceries!”

That made a certain amount of sense, Xue Yang supposed. You didn’t need talent to be a demonic cultivator – technically speaking, given his bloodline, Mo Xuanyu was more naturally gifted in cultivation than Xue Yang, which was just wrong on all sorts of levels – and it was certainly more effective a defense mechanism than A-Qing’s stick. If there were two of them, they could protect Mo Xuanyu and the baby more effectively, taking shifts when needed, and Mo Xuanyu, who was also going to learn demonic cultivation no matter how many times Xue Yang had to hammer it into his head, could be the last line of defense, largely since no one would ever expect him to be able to do…anything…and they’d be right, too.

So it wasn’t the craziest idea in the world, only…

“…who is she going to be learning from, exactly!?”

“Have you ever considered charging for your skill in teaching cultivation lessons instead of your skill in stabbing people?” A-Qing asked one day. They were lying on the ground and having the corpses they’d raised fan them to try to reduce the temperature – it was that sort of day. Also, Mo Xuanyu, who might’ve objected, wasn’t around. “You’re not actually that bad at this. Might be more profitable, and less work. Just a thought.”

“Shut up. I’m great at stabbing people.”

“Yeah, but then after a while we have to move because people get annoyed at that, and it’s getting a little annoying to have to pack up all the time.”

“We’d have to move anyway. We’re wanted criminals, remember?”

“We could be wanted criminals with a house. Besides, wouldn’t you like to be called Teacher Xue?”

“What? No. Gross.”

“So you see, it turns out that they were teaching demonic cultivation in a safe and organized fashion,” Xiao Xingchen explained enthusiastically. “They’d even gathered up their own little sect! And of course everyone heard what the Chang clan did, so there’s no need to worry about them going around and murdering people at random – it was a targeted revenge scheme.”

“We’re working on teaching them regular cultivation,” Song Lan agreed, nodding. “To help mitigate the negative effects of demonic cultivation…well, we started out by just teaching them.”

“It turned out that they’d been secretly teaching all of the local delinquents, too, or at least Mo-gongzi had been teaching a few and Mistress Qing was teaching a few others, and even Sect Leader Xue had a few disciples,” Xiao Xingchen said, politely omitting or possibly having not noticed the fact that Mo Xuanyu had been teaching his ‘friends’ (read: scammers trying to take advantage of him), while A-Qing and Xue Yang had each been trying to form competing gangs and/or obtain lackeys. Xue Yang didn’t mind the oversight, largely on account of the fact that A-Qing had been winning, damn her – he’d kept getting distracted by inventing new things. “And a few of them had real talent – and you know that Zichen and I have always wanted to start a sect of our own, with no bloodline ties –”

“We’re joining their sect,” Song Lan said. “We’ll be leading the orthodox side, while they lead the demonic cultivation aspect – safely, of course.”

“I guess it’s better than them being crazy,” Jiang Cheng said. He sounded dubious. “I don’t like it, but at least all the demonic cultivators can be in one spot, you know?”

He made it sound like they’d be dropping off new ones there in the future.

Like they’d opened up some sort of pet rescue and were taking in unwanted puppies or something.

“Agreed,” Nie Mingjue said. “To the extent that they aren’t causing active harm, containment seems an appropriate remedy here. Who seconds the motion?”

“I do,” Lan Xichen said, and smiled at the newly agreed-upon sect. “Welcome back to the cultivation world, Sect Leader Xue.”

“I don’t want to know,” Jin Guangyao said, glaring.

“Don’t worry,” Xue Yang told him. “This comes as much of a shock to me as to you.”

The glare intensified, but that was fine. Jin Guangyao’s facial expressions, however minor and generally overlooked, had been the only thing getting him through that awful, awful meeting just now where people kept trying to salute him and make him salute back and if he didn’t then he was letting down Mo Xuanyu (who would send him a sad look) and A-Qing (who would hear about it from Mo Xuanyu later and then find a way to step on his foot right when he was concentrating on something).

Not to mention their two new resident lovebirds, who looked so righteous and proper from the outside but who also may or may not have accidentally full-on actually resurrected some dead asshole cultivator more or less the first time they’d joined Xue Yang in his demonic cultivation laboratory – which would have been fine, you know, that happened in demonic cultivation though not normally to quite such a wow-is-he-actually-alive extent, except that the guy’s intermittent moments of clarity suggested that his two new sect members might have just brought back the Yiling Patriarch himself, which was going to make all of them wanted criminal again the second anyone found out about it.

Ugh.

Being called sect leader was completely not worth this shit.

Xue Yang comforted himself with the reminder that later today he was planning on publicly introducing Jin Guangyao to the Xue sect’s head junior disciple “Xue Song” and announcing loudly that the brat needed some lessons in manners, that he’d heard that that was Lianfeng-zun’s specialty, and nominating him to take care of the kid while they were visiting.

See how the fucker liked that.

“I always knew Xue-gege could do great things!” Mo Xuanyu said, clapping his hands as A-Qing rolled her (by now, Xue Yang was almost definitely sure not actually blind) eyes behind his back. “As long as I went with him!”

Prompt 87: Remembrance

AU in which all Cultivators come back in time shortly before the start of the Sun shot Campaign. It happens ten years after the death of the Yilling Patriarch. Or, how the 5 Great sects fares in the face of an upcoming conflict, armed with foresight of the Sunshot Campaign and what was to come afterwards. + The Dafan Wens. __ 1. Wen Ruohan murders both Wen Chao and Wen Zhuilu, and offers their severed head to the Jiang sect leader in order to negotiate a Pact of Non-Aggression, unaware that Wei Wuxian has been banished. Then he slaughters them up to the last one, when he learns he has been duped. __ 2. Jiang Fengmian and Yu Ziyuan have mixed opinions about their first disciple. On one hand, they were told he has been a powerhouse, and the main force behind the Sunshot Campaign. On the other, he apparently brought the ire of the World with his actions afterwards. He also has no memories of the War, as if he came back just after Jiang Cheng’s golden core was restored. Finally their son, with whom he was always attached to the hip, suggests that it is better for all parties involved if he leaves. __ 3. Jin Guangyao, hunted down by both his father and Wen Ruohan, seeks asylum in Gusu Lan. Xichen grants it. Then the Nie breaks their alliance and decades of friendship, on the ground that the Lans conspired to kill their sect leader. The Collection of Turmoil is mentioned, so do accusations about Jin Rusong’s murder (courtesy of Qin Su), and questions about the true involvement of the Lan sect start to emerge. These are ill news, especially since Gusu needs the support of all of their allies in the incoming conflict. In the end, Xichen looses support, Lan Wangji disappears, leaving only a white ribbon behind to look for Wei Wuxian, and the Lan sect succumbs to internal conflicts. __ 4. The Jins were in a precarious position. That son of a prostitute lent them in hot waters with both the Nie and the Wens, and they couldn’t help but feel as if their days were numbered. The World remembered they played both sides against the middle, (and came out on top), so unsurprisingly they lost the support of most of their allies once they came back. They still tried to restore their image by leading the Sunshot Campaign, this time around, however their inexperience in battle and inaptitude to lead showed, and they suffered heavy losses. (Jin Zixun was the first to die under a Wen blade. Most of the sect followed.) Gone were the Glory Days of the Jin sect. __ 5. Unstoppable, the Wens took one sect after the others. The Sunshot Campaign was nipped in the bud, and desperate the Cultivation World tried to look for the Yilling Patriarch as a last resort. Some in hope he’d even out the scales. Others for his favour and his protection. He was unfortunately nowhere to be found. But Nie Huaisang persevered. He knew they wouldn’t manage to win this War on their own, despite his brother’s insistence to count on no one else.

(Of the great sects, they were the only one left to oppose Wen Ruohan’s tyranny. But for how long?) __ +1. Meanwhile, the Dafan Wens hid Wangxian in the southern wing of the Wen Palace in Nightless city under the nose of their own sect leader. Clad in White and Red, faceless in the sea of Wen cultivators, they lived in Peace far from the horror of the War, dedicating their lives to the well-being of commoners. (They had given enough and settled all of their debts. The World could save itself, let the Cultivators squabble, that was no concern of theirs, insisted Wen Qing.)
