Season 2 of Russian Doll Steve Harrington-centric au

I have only some vague plot and just some scenes from the show down but I'll probably never write this and I need to get this out of my head so here we go! Another Dom's au idea dump! (I missed them)

Season 4 never happened btw but 1 through 3 did, also Eddie Munson never existed in Hawkins in this AU

Steve's mother is dying, Steve's mother is dying and he wishes he could feel something other than anger about it, he wishes he could be sad because his mother is dying but she hasn't really been a mother for him for a long time now

But she's dying and Steve still feels like the lanky teenager that observed and analyzed every breath of Cynthia Harrington to know why she hasn't loved him, or moreso why she loved him and yet it wasn't enough for her to care about him

He just wishes he had something to mourn a relationship that never was

She is dying and she's reaching out to Stevie after years of not talking after he packed his bags and moved with Robin to Chicago and haven't looked back since then

She wants him to come and he thinks it's cruel of her to want him there when all she's going to do is left him one last time

He is debating with himself whether to return to Hawkins or not when he takes his morning train to work

And that's when the time fuckery starts, he like Nadia becomes his mother(because we are keeping the gender fuckery that was Alan becoming his grandmother, like Stevie is just gender™ like that) who is very much pregnant, the baby is obvs him, unborn yet and they are in New York or some big city like that (for pain it could be Chicago and maybe Steve never knew she was born in Chicago, that somehow he followed in her footsteps) because Cynthia has always been a big city girl, it was Richard Harrington that wanted to move to Hawkins, to settle down there

When he figures it out he tries to change his fate, he thinks he is here to fix things, to give himself and his mother better life, one where she was happy, one where she maybe loved him enough to care

He knows he needs to leave, he packs her bags and tries to escape by taking the train and it just takes him back

He comes back to his apartment with Robin and spills everything to her, they have survived shit™ so she believes him, but tells him to not mess with time shit but he's determined that he can just fix it, fix everything

So he goes back and finds out that Cynthia is still with her parents, still to be married to Richard, he founds out that the escape did happen but she returned when she realized she was with a baby, has no money, no other people than her family that is pushing her to marry Richard since she is already carrying his child and she's so young, barely eighteen

She chicken out, so he tries other means and somehow somewhere there as his mother he falls for Eddie Munson, Eddie who he never heard of, Eddie who his mother never spoken a word of (his mother hasn't told him many things)

So he falls for Eddie because Eddie is so kind and free and different and he loves him, god he loves him, learns about his mother's past and it's all doomed anyway because the problem of Cynthia Harrington was that she was doomed from her birth and it's the same shit as in the show that every decision that Steve makes doesn't matter, they end up exactly the same anyway

Side plot is Robin taking the train and becoming her grandma and learning her grandma was the same as her, that she was queer, that she fell in love with Vickie, she falls in love with Vickie and it's a doomed romance, she comes back to her present time and learns that Vickie died just two years after Robin/her grandma met her and she tries to prevent that, she thinks she is there to prevent that, in the end she can't, in the end Vickie dies and Robin loved her god she loved her so much

There are obvs intermissions where Stevie and Robin are in the present together and talk and scheme and try to make it all right

Stevie like Nadia steals himself as a baby because he thinks he can raise himself better, that he and Robin can do a better job and the scene where Nadia gives Alan the baby-her and says think of all the things i could be if i was raised with love and as Robin holds baby-him "just what i was talking about" because Robin loves him and he knows she will love baby-him

Also maybe the rest of the party come to Chicago at some point because they heard the news and are there to support Steve and are sucked into the chaos but also meet a random baby and as Steve sees baby-himself surrounded by the party who even tho question from where the fuck did Robin and Steve have gotten a baby are taking care of it anyway

It's just- Steve finally learning his mother, gaining knowledge why she's like that, how she was before him, that him and her are quite similar, that they both loved Eddie Munson and lost him and it will hurt them for the rest of their life, Stevie coming back to Hawkins to say goodbye to his mom

Because he wouldn't chose her to be his mother but that's how the story goes and he knows her and understands her now and they both deserve to say goodbye

Current favorite song: Current as the song I've been listening on repeat for the last months, The Windmills of your Mind (every possible cover, including the French ones Les Moulins de mon Cœur), because it's the theme song for my longest current WIP. Favorite song ever, Feeling Good by Nina Simone, because it's the song that captures best this feeling when depression finally goes away and your brain is free to feel joy again.

Currently reading: Just finished the Captive Prince thanks to Phin's execellent advice! I loved it, mind the trigger warnings but read it if they are OK with you.

Currently watching: Witcher S3, Bad Batch S2 (late, because my partner had to catch up). Next on the list is Silo (I've read the books), then Good Omens S2 and Ahsoka when they're out.

Current favorite character: In which universe? Hob is probably my favorite from Sandman, Leia from SW (what, you could have guessed?), Ciri from Witcher. Across every universe, probably the Fool from Robin Hobb's Royal Assassin.

Current WIPs: Great question, thank you! 

#1 in my thoughts, Vortex Street, a fluid mechanics Sandman fic. It's probably the nerdiest thing I've ever written. The premise is : what if the fact that Vortices appear periodically in the Dreaming meant the Dreaming was a fluid? And what if Hob was a physicist set on solving the Vortex problem? It's nearly entirely written now, I hope I can release the first chapter soon.

#2 The King, the Fae and the Peasant: my Fake Date fic from the Dreamling Week 2023. Dream decides to fake date Hob in 1389 to drive Titania jealous after a lovers' spat. Hob enjoys the show.

#3 Descent to Hell a triggery fic where Hob chooses to die before Dream gets out of the Fishbowl. The fic explores why, and how Dream can fix this.

#4 The Prequel to A Happy Little Mistake, my first Dreamling fic. It explores how Hob and Johanna worked together to set Dream free from Burgess' basement.

#5 Only at the stage of idea for the moment, Russian Doll AU. Instead of healing from his wounds, each time Hob dies, he goes back in time to the previous 8th of June XX89. How can he use it to save Dream?

 #6 Probably after Vortex Street is done I'll adopt one of the Captive Prince AU we're brainstorming on Discord. Because I'll have a free slot again.

I'm rewatching S1 of Russian Doll, which I haven't seen since it came out in 2019, in preparation for watching the newly released S2. I liked it when I originally saw it, but it's even better on rewatching. It's giving me AU ideas. Like, I wrote a Groundhog Day inspired Good Omens project (it was a fusion, not a crossover) with @whatever-you-can-give-me a couple years back, and now I'm wondering what I could do with this show's spin on the living-the-same-day-over-and-over trope as a baseline. I'm tempted to try a fusion with Gotham; I'm already targeting what day is repeating for whom depending on who I choose as the viewpoint character. Something for after I finish my current WIP, maybe.

russian doll s2 [SPOILERS for s1]

I’ve seen people worrying about S2, like it might ruin things. But if they have a three season plan, then I say let them go for it? I don’t think S2 would overstretch the concept at all: we end in a place where, sure, the Nadia and Alan we know have done all this growing.

But they’re with each other’s AU self, who never did all that. And with that person they’ve only made the first step. There’s a lot of ground to cover. And even a lot that we still don’t know about out original Nadia and Alan.

There’s tons of directions they could take it, and clearly they know how to pull off some amazing writing stuff. The issue has never been that doing more than one season in tv is a problem, it’s been that US tv tended to go beyond what the writers had to say. That’s not happening here, so I’m excited for more!

I watched s2 of Russian Doll yesterday (fantastic show, one of my favourites, please watch it if you haven’t already) and of course my brain wants to strong arm an encanto au out of it

This one is just some thoughts for my kinnporsche time travel enjoyers and Queer Porsche Au enjoyers

So season 2 of Russian Doll Kinnporsche AU but the Alan plot.

So Kinn is Alan because that boi clearly has some issues™ of wanting to be the perfect son and heir. So he takes the tube and it takes him to the 80's america when Korn was studying abroad

And there he meets Porsche who is one of the fighters for queer rights.

And so he keeps going back and forth between the present and the 80's and let's say that for angst Kinn finds out that Porsche will die from aids and so his whole stick is trying to prevent that from happening.

So he falls even deeper and deeper in love with this kind passionate opinionated stranger while trying desperately to save him from this diasese, thinking that, that is the reason he gets sent back in time.

And the end is Porsche revealing he had aids all along and Kinn realizing that he could do nothing, absolutely nothing to prevent it and Kinn who always needs control just falls apart beside Porsche's bed because this man that he loves with his whole heart is dying and he was supposed to save him, and yet he couldn't, he can't control that.

Just think of Kinn's frantic "no, no, you can't die. Not now, I was supposed to save you"

And Porsche weak but still so bright laughs and is like "Some things you just can't control Kinn"

And like the end is Porsche dying and Kinn learning to live with that loss, realizing that it was better to love Porsche even just as briefly as he did then to never love him at all.

So yeah, that's my little au idea of the day, hope y'all enjoyed this thoughts

Basically Dave lives and Klaus stays. They move into a place in upstate New York, end up adopting 2 kids (Libby & Benji) and basically live in domestic bliss

Sissy is a single mum who lives nearby. Her and Klaus are BFFs. She babysits their kids, Klaus and Dave babysit Harlan & it’s very wholesome

When the rest of siblings time travel after S1 they end scattered across New York in the early 70s. Most of the plot point remains the same - Allison meets Ray who’s a civil rights lawyer/activist; Luther gets involved with the mafia; Diego gets sectioned for going on about how he’s going to time travel and save JFK; Vanya meets sissy & moves in with her

Klaus has a few near misses where he almost finds his siblings (i.e. Dave is reading the article about Diego getting arrest & Klaus jokes about it sounding like his brother. Sissy mentions Vanya living with her/looking for her family - Dave suggest it might Klaus sister but he shuts its down bc how did Vanya time travel??)

Klaus finds Vanya first, but have no idea about that the apocalypse or that their siblings are

Ben gets stuck with another sibling (probably Vanya or Diego) he rips Klaus a new one when they reunite for not wanting to find the rest of their siblings

I don’t really have much of plot details settled but there’s the usual shinanigans of commission and FBI shit. They don’t find Reggie bc someone suggests maybe telling him about the umbrella academy might screw the timeline

I have a few ending including

Super happy ending no ones hurt, Klaus and Dave either stay or go to 2019 but everyone ends on good terms 

Dave get shot again, they all go back the future. It’s a close call but Grace is able to save him. Five gives Klaus the briefcase & the option to stay or go back to the 70′s

Super sad ending of Klaus going back to 2019 to help on the promise he can then go back to 1970′s once apocalypse is stopped but something happens and he gets stranded. He has to deal with the consequences of abandoning Dave and his kids. (Maybe Klaus end up meeting his now-grownup kids. They grew up on stories from Dave about how their dad was a superhero who had to leave to save the world, but hold a lot of resentment against Klaus)

Russian doll AU

This one is actually on AO3 but on an indefinite hiatus

No powers AU - Klaus gets stuck in time loop of constantly dying on his birthday.  He meets Dave who is also stuck in the loop and they team up to try and solve it

Commission AU

Handler finds Klaus after Dave dies but before he leaves Vietnam. She offers him a deal - work for the commission & they’ll save Dave. Klaus and Dave become partners in the commission

The handler sends them to 2019 and manipulates them to help trigger the apocalypse

She basically pits Klaus and Vanya against the others with the intention of getting the Umbrella Academy to kill Dave & triggering Klaus to start the apocalypse 

Post-S2

After a fight with the sparrows the briefcase gets damaged & Klaus ends up in an alternate timeline where Dave wasn’t killed the two of them settled down together.

The longer he stays the more memories he accumulates from this timelines version of himself & the more he forgets about the original timeline (to the point where he convinces himself it’s all just a reoccurring dream)

He runs into Lila who has been hopping across timelines to avoid the sparrows and the umbrellas. She figures out that Klaus is in the wrong timeline but Klaus just brushes her off

The rest of the umbrella academy eventually find him & Klaus has to choose between his siblings and Dave

Vanya & Klaus role-swap AU

Pretty self explanatory set up - Vanya was a full member of the umbrella academy, Klaus grew up thinking the ghost were just hallucinations

Klaus and Dave (ex-soldier) are already in an established relationship

When five turns up in 2019 he has dog tags instead of an eyeball but they’re too damaged to read the full name/ID number

After he gets kidnapped he gets shot by hazel & cha-cha. After he dies he speaks to Reggie before coming back to life

Patch and Dave save him. No one dies or time travels. Klaus finally has a conversation with Ben and tell Dave about his powers

More shinanigans and basically the apocalypse happens when Dave is shot which triggers klaus’ powers

Could also lead into a sequel following season 2 where Dave ends up in Dallas. Klaus has no memory and his only clue is Dave’s dog tags. Dave also has no clue what’s going bc he was unconscious/bleeding out and just wakes up in a hospital in the 1960s

Actor AU

Hargreeves siblings are ex-child stars who all took fame differently and are spread across the spectrum of ‘continued successful career and avoided major scandal’ (Allison) and ‘developed an addiction as a teenager and completely fell off the rails’ (Klaus)

As kids they all stared in a show about the umbrella academy and all reunite to film a gritty reboot (aka things are super meta)

Dave is cast as in a minor role of Klaus’ love interest and they basically end up falling in love on set as well

S1 fix-it

Klaus brings Dave back to the future after he gets shot

The briefcase screws up and they end up in 2018. Basically an excuse for Klaus and Dave to go on a road trip without dealing with the apocalypse

Probably some comical shinanigans involving Klaus and Dave trying to avoid the past versions of Klaus/the rest of the siblings (could get angsty when they find past Klaus and see what an absolutely mess he used to be)

Ben knows and is just kinda done with Klaus shit
