My mother after not watching Babylon 5 for a while truly misremembered Susan Ivanova as Svetlana Ivanova
and in a stark case of headcanon is better than canon, I wish this was true but for some reason Lt Ivanova's very Russian parents named her Susan.

Just thinking about Katya calling Sophia “Sonya” and at first Sophia is confused cause she’s not Russian, but eventually becomes the only person allowed to call Katya “Yekaterina”.

Somewhat belatedly, the City of Kyiv is removing a Soviet-era statue dedicated to Russian-Ukrainian friendship. That statue must have seemed like a bad joke to most residents of Kyiv.
The dismantling of the statue has not been the only adjustment by municipal officials on Ukrainian streets and public spaces to the Russian invasion.
Ukraine to rename or remove street signs and public works associated with Russia
It’s surprising that it’s taken this long. Ukraine has been fighting a war against Russian proxies in Donbas since 2014. Thousands of Ukrainians have died in the conflict. And also in 2014, Russia seized Crimea.

Hi idk u and we don't follow each other so this is really random but I saw a post you made about soft names a Long time ago and I was wondering if you could help me find soft names for Natan/Nathaniel? I can't find resources anywhere :( TY in advance
Hey, thank you for your question, I loved it.
The thing is, the name Nathaniel isn't really used in Russia now, but used to be a... somewhat common (peasant, I guess, or religion-adjacent, I'm not sure, but it wasn't used in USSR and is picking up a bit now) name. It was Нафанаил, the short would be Нафаня. If someone would be trying to pick a Russian soft name for a Nathaniel they'd definitely go for Нафаня (Nafanya/Nathanya) and find it cute and hilarious.
The thing is, the most recent and well-known Nafanya in Russian culture is this little guy: http://cdn01.ru/files/users/images/e1/e1/e1e161cbb9842fc232e5af788ffe21be.jpg
He's a domovoy (a brownie? a kind of a house spirit) in this cartoon: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uHQ820mRocs . He's adorable, kind and the main character's 'adult' older brother :)
From that, one could derive multiple nicknames like Нафанечка, Нафанчик, Нафанюша and so on, but the connotation will always be there since Kuzya is one of the most well-known Soviet catroons.
