Audio Drama Sunday - 28th April ✨
Happy Audio Drama Sunday! I started two new shows this week and fell in love with both of them!!
👻 @tellnotalespod (S2E8.5) ohhhhhh I’m so emotional. The end of this series is going to make me cry so many happy tears, I can just feel it.
🌲 @hellofromthehallowoods (149) With the description this week, I think I truly realised just how scary-looking the pig man is 😰 Things are looking decidedly down for Shelby and Clem. Eek. God, Valerie!!! She’s such an interesting character because you can literally connect the dots of her trauma but still be slightly disappointed by the consequences on her behaviour! And the poor Mr Greenstreets ☹️ Raj is very Syrensyr coded?? Vincent as a grief counsellor makes me wonder… about who or what Voltaire is….
Also, I want the Auditor to be Polly so bad and I want Nikignik to get out of the interrogation by bargaining to reunite him with Yaretzi and Mort - PLEASE.
🧳 Travelling Light by @monstrousproductions (19) I loved seeing our Traveller stand up for themself!! It’s always so fun to see characters who are usually soft gain a backbone of steel because their core values are tested. And the discussion of the nanobots was so interesting!! The laws on nanobots elsewhere when they are literally required for survival makes the entire person illegal. And we all know that’s not right!!!
👁️ @malevolentcast (41) I’m thinking that maybe Rafters was an exception that proves the rule… Alexander the owl was creepy as anything and I hated the way he seemed to be guiding them towards the crack in the wall. Now we’re in a possible parallel universe, it feels like all bets are off and I’m scared to even consider what might happen to John and Arthur now!
⚔️ @camlannpod (8) OUGH. Oh my god. Can’t they just have FIVE MINUTES to RELAX?? I actually snorted out loud at: ‘you’re good with an axe, right’. Pere is a little shit and I love that for them. Morgan!!! 🫨 And Dai!!! I’m so hopeful that starting down this path will lead to good (or, at least, a whole load of shenanigans for S2!)
🖥️ The Magnus Protocol (13) It’s very interesting to me that we were able to listen in on Sam and Cecilia’s date… how did that work? There’s something here about gambling and chance with this story and the previous one about the dice rolling?? I’m connecting the dots (I’m not connecting shit).
🌞 Small Victories by @wgc-productions is so good, I wish I’d started listening years ago. I love the 90s sitcom vibe and the intro/outro are so unique. I absolutely love shows that centre around character studies. Marisol’s story is so gripping and I love how the writing takes us right inside her brain as she justifies every decision (good or bad). It’s so clear how loveable she is and how much people around her want her to be okay (mostly), but don’t know *how* to get her to that place given the shit they’re dealing with themselves! I got up to 1.09 so . . . bit of a cliffhanger there!! I’m very excited to see how the story progresses. I’m rooting for you, Tiny!!
🧋 I started @hinaypod and it’s safe to say that I’m in love already! Listening has given me the same amazing feeling of listening to Desperado - the sensation that the creators have opened up a door to a brand new world and I’m so happy to be in it! I adore Mari. Even from episode one, she has this quiet self-confidence in herself and her skills which is so refreshing. I also really like the horror writing here and I’m really looking forward to delving deeper into this story!
Hope everyone has a good week! 💙

Rules: List 10 of your favorite characters from 10 different fandoms and then tag 10 people!
tagged by @ladyyennefer and @simonxriley Thank you! 💕

Commander Lexa (The 100) — the love of my life, my number one from now until the end of time, deserved a far better ending and I will forever be bitter about it.
Ellie Williams (The Last of Us) — I would walk through fire for this character. I love her more than my own life.
Bix Caleen (Andor) — it was so hard to only pick one Star Wars character, but she really has a special place in my heart now. Also deserved better. Tony Gilroy I am in your fucking walls.
Arthur Morgan (Red Dead Redemption 2) — all I wanted to do was root and toot and yee and haw, but this game made me deeply love this man. I frequently cry about him.
Jessica Jones (Marvel) — she’s an absolute mess, she’s an asshole, but by god does she try.
Emma of Normandy (Vikings: Valhalla) — look, I’m usually strongly Team Viking in these shows, but her first scene made me switch sides in record time. I will also defend her actions in s2 with my full chest. I support women’s rights and women’s wrongs.
Senua (Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice) — I haven’t even played this game myself, but it completely altered my brain chemistry. Senua truly reached into my fucking soul. I cry when I think about her for more than a few minutes. “All she needed was a little help. A little hope.”
Villanelle (Killing Eve) — everything is wrong with her <3
Lestat de Lioncourt (Interview With The Vampire) — everything is wrong with him <3
Inej Ghafa (Six of Crows) — One of the most perseverant characters I’ve ever read. The end of her story is so beautiful and it makes me full on sob every single time without fail.

[THOUGHTS ON PEAKY BLINDERS, EPISODE 5 - SERIES 6, “THE ROAD TO HELL”]
sorry, i’m late. i suppose i have a life outside of fandom (*sigh*).
overall, i absolutely adored this episode. i think it’s the first this series where i was like “oh god, oh god, oh god,” in literally every scene and could not believe an hour had already gone by when the credits rolled. i know loads of people didn’t like it but to me, it felt like a fantastic blend of old school peaky blinders (the opening scene, all of the throwbacks, etc.) but staying true to the tone and darkness of this season. i just cannot expressed how much i loved it.
now, here are some more precise thoughts in no particular order, just as i’ve had them. obviously, spoilers ahead. if you missed my recaps of the previous episodes, see ep1, ep2, ep 3, and ep 4.
Tumblr media
first, i cannot stress enough how much i looooooved the intro sequence. the classic peaky walk, the music. back to the roots, are we? i love how, strangely, the fact that he’s dying seems to have brought tommy some peace and calm, this episode. he doesn’t really give any fucks anymore - it really reminded me of that quote after john’s funeral “everything afterwards was a bonus”. this is clearly his bonus - you can tell he’s enjoying himself in that scene with the chinese and i loved it.
also i loved how the scene was sort of a parallel to s2: when he's at aflie's and he pretends he’s ready to blow himself up. now, he’d totally do it 😆.
“by order of the birmingham district council” is possibly the quote of this series. there, i’ve said it. 😆
ada, my queen. i’d be furious as well if tommy had dragged me out of bed for this. ada and i are not morning people, she’s my spirit animal i swear.
finn is married 🎉🎉 congrats finn! double-congrats that the show remembered you existed lol.
this whole scene with duke being introduced was so cringe. bar for tommy, no one in this scene wants to be there. also, is it me or did duke sort of sounded like michael? like in tone and speech? and, god, i feel so bad for lizzie.
loved the little duke&arthur bonding moment, though.
linda is hustling. good for you linda. i respect it.
that whole scene in the church, though, knowing that tommy is dying. i just 💔. i like that linda thinks she’s doing him a favour when actually, he just wants to 1) protect arthur but 2), also buy himself a conscience. i’ve had this conversation with @uncontainedhybrid before but i really like how the show goes about showing that very catholic tendency to give money to the church/good causes to literally pay for your sins, and also the very obvious limits of that.
as the guys from the peaky blinders podcast pointed out, that lad in the liverpool warehouse is in the wrong trade and should charge for being the shelby men’s therapist.
“is that why you do it? for people to say thank you?” this. whole. scene. just - so many feels. i really don’t know who’s right. is it love and validation that tommy is really looking for? it is very likely. he’s the second born, the one who parents usually don’t care about, and tbh, they never really did seem to have parents to begin with. there's always been the almost pathological desire to prove himself, wanting more, showing that he was worth more than people were giving him credit for. it was outlined in that scene with jessie eden when he told the story about the coconut and the top hat and you do wonder if deep down, that was all he wanted. just nice things ("i still want things that feel nice") and a bit of recognition. for people to notice him, say thank you. there’s definitely been a recurring theme in the later seasons of the show (and specifically this one) of “what was it all for?” it reminds me of that scene in s1 when polly is praying for the boys ahead of the battle with kimber and she says: "he does what he does for us. i think."
this being said, when tommy counters “feel it? junk doesn’t even come close -” i’m pretty sure he’s lying to himself there. i don’t think it ever really was just power and control that he was after. there's definitely more to it than that.
on another note, i don’t know man that scene with the referee stressed me out. i’m glad it’s over.
additionally, huge congratulations to tommy for finally having sex with his wife, rather than literally anybody else 🙃. jokes aside, there’s obviously a lot to be said about this scene, so let me unpack:
+ first, i couldn’t help but think back to that scene last season, the infamous “lizzie/tommy ground rules” scene, where lizzie made him promise: “and this, always,” and the contrast between then and now just broke my heart 💔. obviously, their relationship has always been very much based on sex (“in my head i’m still paying for it,”) but when lizzie said: “there was a time we said nothing afterwards, because we didn’t need to say anything. now, we don’t have anything to say,” i just. 🥺. and i also wonder, is that entirely true, though? because when we first started seeing him having sex with her, he was just paying her and leaving. then, it was like "there's not much talking when you're bent over a desk" from s3. and, let's not forget that the day they conceived ruby, he was "fucking someone else inside [his] head." i love lizzie, but she is romanticising their story quite a bit, there. and, as i've said before, i love the two of them as characters but their marriage just hurts. i hurt for the both of them.
+ i think the “list of regrets” exchange also just felt like a continuation of those vibes. obviously, what we will probably all remember from that scene is tommy saying “i love you,” which doesn’t happen often (did he ever actually say it to grace?), and honestly, it really got me in the feels. i think he truly meant it. and, i’ve said it before but i think there’s a lot of love between him and lizzie, it’s just probably not romantic love, or at least not romantic love like it’s generally pictured. i wrote this quote in a non-peaky fic a few weeks ago, but it really is what comes to mind, here: ‘They certainly loved, but perhaps, not the way they should have.’ it’s like they love each other, but they’re not “in love.” they married because of ruby, because of happenstance and tommy wanting to do things right and perhaps, that was his downfall.
+ and, i’m surprising myself by talking past tense here, but isn’t it really what this scene felt like? just their goodbyes. tommy knowing he is dying and will have to do things that will drive lizzie away (perhaps he wants to drive her away before he becomes a burden, doesn’t want her to see him lose his mind), and her also knowing that she won’t be able to last much longer. just completely heartbreaking.
+ as a side note, i think it's very interesting that tommy seems to consider just letting the illness take him. i said it last week but the way they have chosen him to go is probably The Worst Possible Option for someone who values his own brain and intelligence as much as tommy. he's literally losing the one thing that's made him who he is. and i would have thought that that would be very much a reason for him to commit suicide in the end, because he wouldn't want to see himself basically "become a vegetable". and i find it interesting that he just seems to go with it, talking to lizzie about "what's to come" etc. i suppose he could be referring to his death, but it doesn't sound like it ("you'll need people who love you very much") and i find it interesting that he doesn't seem to consider suicide for the very natural option it is.
+ lastly, i really loved the camera work in this scene, the way it moved almost like it was “sea sick,” which obviously reflects tommy’s symptoms.
on another note, we got confirmation billy was the snitch. a very disappointing development, a very obvious one. i stay convinced that this was supposed to be a red herring prior to helen mccrory’s death and became the real thing once she did die and they didn’t want to bother with last year's black cat plot anymore. a real shame cause i truly loved that plot and considering it was the Main Plot in s5, i really feel like even with polly dying, the idea that tommy wouldn't have hunted down a snitch and risked keeping him within his organisation is So Unlikely.
that whole scene with billy and jack nelson, though. i mean, is it bad that i loved it? 😬😬
i will also include this direct quote from my notes: “omg arthur and linda. i’ve missed this trainwreck.” haven’t we all?
whilst i did say last week i would scream if duke really turned out to be tommy’s son, i am not actually screaming anymore. i kind of like duke. i like that he’s ambitious and very tommy-like, but also very different. “this boy has hills to climb,” and “people piss me off,” cracked me up. i also think this is meant to highlight that there is no "heir" for tommy, but for michael.
aside from the obvious of tommy/diana, i wanted to take note of something. when she tells him “it’s much harder to lie with your body than your words,” he says: “this, i have learnt.” first, when did he learn that? when was this ever a thing? but also, interestingly, it is the exact same turn of phrase that when jessie eden (i think?) points out to him in s4 that no amount of money or power can get you to transcend class and he sort of snorts and says: “this i have learnt.” i’m not sure what to make of it but i doubt it’s unintentional.
other than that, directly taken from my notes: “omggg he slept with her 😭😭😫😫😫 thank god it was quick.” thank god indeed.
on the topic of tommy’s seizures, the guys @ the bbc podcast pointed out that his guilt/visions are always strangely always related to france. like, tommy has killed countless people in the past ten years, but he always gets back to france. i think it’s definitely true and interesting, but i do wonder what to make of it as well.
the shot of him sat on the stairs, smoking under grace’s portrait. 💔. just loads of 💔 this episode. a very 💔 episode 🥺. and, again, i love how nothing is said. grace’s name is not spoken, not mentioned, but she’s just there everywhere and it’s peaky blinders as a show, entrusting its viewer to do the work. such clever writing.
i loved how they used that deleted scene with helen. again, way to tear my heart into pieces lads. i just miss her so much.
“it’s like the bomb’s stopped ticking and i’m waiting for it to explode” - the good thing about doing my recap three days late is that having seen all the gifs going around, i now know this is the quote everyone has retained from this episode, which is fair enough. such a beautiful quote and way to put it.
i wrote this in my notes: “omg what is wrong with mosley?!?!?” i’m not sure in reference to what exactly but for the record everything is wrong with mosley 🙄🙄.
also directly taken from my notes: “lizzie is dead inside,” and “tommy is bored.” both of those very accurate statements 😆
diana 🙄🙄. aside from the whole diana v. lizzie issue, i do wonder: fundamentally, why do mosley and diana want to break tommy and lizzie up? like, is it really only matter or public image? is it asserting their power? to fuck with tommy’s life? i mean, why do they hate lizzie so much?? i don’t get it.
this being said, omg. that whole sequence where tommy goes to get a whisky from behind the bar, i genuinely thought he was going to get a gun and shoot them all 😆😆. but then, his tirade of “you’re right, she doesn’t belong here, but i do. i belong with fuckers like you,” i loooooooved it. and i don’t think it’s literal. i don’t think tommy is genuinely a nazi. i think he’s just like, the three of them are complete nutters and in fairness, he kind of is as well. amongst these fuckers who have no morals is genuinely where (he thinks) he belongs, and lizzie doesn’t (obviously, debatable. i think he's a bit self-deprecating, here). i just absolutely adored the way this was written and framed. it was funny, but also oh-so-devastating. “for all i try to hide it, i’m just one of you,” - ouch. and indeed, “could there be a sadder ending?” loved that.
about michael, is he lying, is he not, i don’t know, and i don’t care. both options suit me. ultimately, i think michael will take over, but i'm not sure whether he will shoot tommy or not. first, i don't know that he has it in him/really wants to and second, i think tommy might be like "yeah, shoot, i'm dying anyway" and i don't think michael will want to shoot a dying man. i did really like, though, that a) he was visited by a priest (such a throwback… 🤢) and b) i like how he used the word “nevertheless.” i don’t know why but it felt like such a tommy word (“nevertheless, john, nevertheless. despite the bad blood, and the provocations, from the cavalry…” you know those people who can deliver monologues from memory on tiktok without seeing the screen? yeah, that's me with the No Fucking Fighting scene 😎). i don’t know if it was on purpose, but it really reminded me of why i used to love michael and why he was often seen as tommy’s heir, in a way. this season, tommy spent so much time looking for someone to “take over” and i think the show is making it very clear that there is a natural heir right there would you just look! and although he’s The Worst right now, we do still love him. he’s family. so, we’ll see.
overall, as i said at the start, i really, really enjoyed this episode. it really felt like a banger and one that reassured me on the rest of the season’s future. i am very excited about the finale this sunday, although it is a bit bittersweet, i will admit. i was talking to someone on discord (can’t remember who, sorry), but i was saying that when peaky blinders started in 2013, i had just turned 20. i am now 28 and this series, for better or for worse, has been such a staple feature of my 20s. it’s been my comfort go-to during the pandemic, an endless source of inspiration and thoughts, and seeing it end is a very nostalgic process. it's like i'm also slowly grieving that part of my life and i’m feeling the same way i was when the last harry potter film came out, saying goodbye to my childhood and adolescence.
obviously, knowing there is a movie coming up is a source of reassurance, knowing that it’s not really the end yet, but still, it is quite an emotional time. thank you all for reading these, and looking forward to next week’s (last 😭) recap!

Note
here’s a completely random question: what’s your fav song and your least fav song from each of the o.g. glee club members
Now, when you say "OG", do you mean "original 5", "original 6" or "original 12"?
Rachel Barbra Berry
Okay, I like when Rachel goes OTT but in an ACTING way, rather than her "I'm just too emotional, I have to let it build inside me" way... So to that end, I like songs like "Hello Twelve"; "Run Joey Run"; "Ding-Dong"; "Paradise by the Dashboard Light"; "Kiki/TLT"...
I'm picking "Hello Twelve, Hello Thirteen, Hello Love" as my favourite. This is a song that LITERALLY ELEVEN YEARS LATER, I am STILL pissed off that they cut. This song ESTABLISHES St Berry so well, and I didn't *GET* it until I saw it.
Least favourite? There's a song that comes to mind but I want to save it in case you send a second ask in this vain (hint hint).. So I think "Roots Before Branches". I told you, I really don't like Rachel over-emotionally singing, and this song really plays into that with the vocals AND I just don't like the song. I think this was, bar none, the WORST final number of a season.
Kurt Elizabeth Hummel
I find Kurt REALLY hard to pick for... I think Kurt is one of the characters that I have the BROADEST opinion of in terms of music. I can't pinpoint exactly what I do and don't like in his numbers, beyond "I hate when they force him to go WAY too high and it throws off the balance of the song". And I like when they let him PLAY with a song, rather than singing it straight.
So, candidates include: "Defying Gravity"; "Rose's Turn"; "4 Minutes"; "Bad Romance"; "Pure Imagination"; "NTBND"; "Being Alive"; "Kiki/TLT"...
Yeah, okay, I did actually know which song I was going to pick from the start. I have no choice.
It's "Not the Boy Next Door".
Now, least favourite? This is TOUGH. "Animal" bugs me because of the sheer AMOUNT of processing on that song. "Candles" has the "making Kurt go too high and throwing off the balance" issue.
Yeah, I think "Animal". I don't like Candles, but I REALLY hate Animal.
Mercedes Jones
Let's speed this up a little... Candidates include "4 Minutes"; "The Boy is Mine"; "Beautiful"; "And I am Telling You"; "River Deep"; "Dog Days Are Over"; "Human Nature"; "I'll Stand By You"...
Oof, this IS tough... I think it's "Beautiful"... Yeah, that's the number that comes to mind the most often when I think of Mercedes.
Least Favourite? "I Look To You"? I dunno, I think episode context is why for that one. She doesn't REALLY have a dud number that I can think of.
Tina Cohen-Chang
Hoo boy. First of all... Girl, you were SHAFTED by the producers. Only Original 6 member to have under 100 songs. Only one solo in S1.
Anyway, I like "True Colors"; "I Follow Rivers"; "Dog Days"; "Hung Up"; "3"; "I Kissed a Girl"...
I am fully aware I just named more than half of her solos and duets...
I think it's "True Colors"... or "I Kissed a Girl"... Let's go for True Colors
As for least favourite... is "My Funny Valentine" too obvious a pick? Because it's "My Funny Valentine". (Yes, I like "Gangnam Style". It's awful, but I like it.)
Arthur Abrams
Candidates: "Dancing With Myself"; "Safety Dance"; "Dream a Little Dream"; "Never Going Back Again"... Huh, I think that's all of the ones that stand out to me.
So, yes. I think it's "Dancing With Myself". That's two in a row where I've picked the OG solo...
Least favourite? No contest. "Boys/Boyfriend"... though "Scream" and "Feliz Navidad" get special mentions because I *HATE* "Artie walks!" dream sequences.
Finn Christopher Hudson
I already know my favourite Finn song. I have said it MULTIPLE times, and I stand by it.
My favourite Finn song is, no contest, "Paradise By the Dashboard Light". In fact, I think it's not only Finn's best song, but the best New Directions competition performance.
Now, least favourite? "Girls Just Want To Have Fun".
Wow, Finn was easy.
Lucy Quinn Fabray
Ah, Quinnie...
Candidates: "Papa Don't Preach"; "It's a Man's World"; "Lucky"; "Time of My Life"; "Pretty/Unpretty"; "I Don't Want to Know" (yes, I just listed ALL FOUR of her S2 leads...)... And then that's it??!? Wow, she got shafted after S2, huh?!
Yeah, I think it's "I Feel Pretty/Unpretty". What a surprise. A Faberry song.
As for least favourite? "Up Up Up", I think.
Santana Diabla Lopez
... This is tough. "Science Fiction, Double Feature"; "Valerie"; "Songbird"; "Back to Black"; "River Deep"; "Smooth Criminal"; "Girl on Fire"; "If I Die Young"; "Here Comes the Sun"; "Brave"; "Hand in My Pocket/I Feel the Earth Move"...
I *THINK* I have to go for "Songbird", actually...
Now, least favourite? Does Santana have a dud number? At least, one that's her fault? Okay, I don't like "Take My Breath Away".
Brittany Susan Pierce
There are precisely TWO Brittany songs I will listen to on their own. Those are "My Cup" and "Hand In my Pocket/I Feel the Earth Move".
So yes, it's HIMP/IFTEM.
As for least favourite... "Something Stupid". NOT because it's a Bram song. I actually don't have an issue with Bram, per se... But I just feel like it's bland and doesn't add anything to the show, and doesn't really stand on its own.
Noah Puckerman
"Lady Is a Tramp"; "Mean"; "Glory Days"; "No Surrender"...
I think it's "Lady is a Tramp".
As for least favourite... "I Wanna Sex You Up"... is an Acafellas number cheating? If not, then... No, it has to be "I Wanna Sex You Up", sorry.
Michael Robert Chang, Jr.
This was mean of me to include... "ABC" is my favourite, I guess? And... yeah, "Scream" has to be my least favourite.
Matt Rutherford
My favourite AND least favourite Matt Rutherford song is [THIS SPACE LEFT INTENTIONALLY BLANK]
Jesse St. James
There's no point doing the original 12 and ignoring my boy.
Favourite: "Bohemian Rhapsody"...
Least favourite: "Like a Virgin", I guess... He doesn't ACTUALLY have a dud number.

PART 2: 👋
Lucas: Ok, so Lucas's arc this season is connected to Eliott who has focus, instead of Eliott being connected to Lucas like always. His arc is a relationship one and he's also there as background in the insulated intimidating crew contrasted with the isolated lonely outsider in Lola.
So in S5 Lucas moves in with Eliott and we see them in love and domestic. Lucas has independence and has matured. The show really builds his connection with the group too. He is around a lot and basically boy solidarity to support Arthur's story. 🤘Lots of boy group instas fill Lucas's account. Friendship is just a huge theme this season. Lucas also was part of the girl group and had a special connection with manon in S3, Imane in S4 and was more loyal to the boy group in S5 (more on that later) in S6 he is seen having a special connnection with Daphne.
Lucas makes mistakes in this season 5 which i feel is genuinely consistent with who Lucas is. We saw Lucas in S3. And it was his story and a huge part of this story was his epic love with Eliott so he was loving, soft, vulnerable, hurt, angry over his identity. But generally it was exposed Lucas. In S5 we are in Arthur's narrative. Arthur hasn't been there for Lucas crying, spilling his heart, cuddling and loving Eliott. All the things that would make you see just how soft a person can be. In the boy group is how Arthur sees Lucas. That is stupid, silly, chaotic and affectionate. But they're boys so they're moody and annoying and prank each other and can act like assholes. All things we see. Also Arthur's Jerome is Bas and not Lucas.
Lucas is being set up for S6, so we see the slow creeping abandonment issues come back. We see him saying ignorant and prejudiced things. Again all consistent with the character and his behaviour. Things happen with how Lucas treats people and situations that crop up again in S6, and Lucas shows his moral line too. So first the prejudiced things. This time he acts inconsiderate and ableist to Arthur on Valentines. and Arthur tears him a new one. Lucas looks guilty but also strained (something is going on which comes up big time in S6- home issues) he lashed out and was a hedgehog (prickly and reactive)
He apologises some time later after he calms and thinks about it. We repeat this behaviour in S6 and Lucas dismissing Lola's problems, and Eliott calling him out for his judgement. He's prickly and reactive and then clearly calms down later. All consistent with wanting to protect yourself and your environment. Hedgehogs show their quills to the unknown. Lucas all over. 🦔
Lucas in his new home opens it up to the group. They sleep there, don't leave, have meetings, scream and play video games and Lucas joins in. It's a chaotic loud mess basically. This crops up in S6 when Eliott has a new friend Lola who needs a place to stay after a horrible ordeal and Lucas acts hypocritical and says to Eliott "This is not a hotel" and yeah she slept in their bed because Eliott is decent and respectful and gave her the bed, just like maya did too, because she needed it more. And yes i can see that Lucas felt blindslided but as i said before, the moral line with lucas. It is a pattern with him. If you are close and known it's a free for all. If you are unknown and an intruder have some quills. And i genuinely feel if Eliott copied Lucas and brought home loud friends who wouldn't leave. Lucas would not have that at all = Insider v outsider.
Lucas hides stuff from Arthur because he and the gang don't know how to approach Arthur and be honest with him. They love him but the HOH is a new world for them too, so they mess up a lot. They lie and attend a concert that Arthur sees them at. He calls them out in detention. But generally the mistakes are well meaning. They don't want to hurt his feelings. But they set Lucas up as someone who hides things to try to protect those he cares about. Sound familiar?
The big one the fanbase rioted about: Lucas's advice to Arthur about Alexia. Like i still feel this is consistent with Lucas and again the moral line. The 2 groups have merged but they clearly show the boy group is more tightly knit. So now it becomes about group v group. Arthur is a great friend of Lucas's and Alexia is a friend. Like Lucas isn't close with Alexia. So it becomes about Loyalty. He's already failed Arthur so when he gives the advice to keep the kiss from Alexia i feel it stems from him not wanting Arthur's world to implode and knowing the drama of Alexia finding out could bring to it. Like Arthur even says it to the girls. Don't punish the boys, they were just trying to protect Arthur. So i don't feel that Lucas was OOC because he's generally a dumbass in a group of guys chatting in that dynamic, and doesn't want his friend hurt. His moral line is Arthur is more important. I'm not in agreement with fans saying you learn from your mistakes and that's it. It's not though, your own issues can affect your mistakes, your environment can affect your mistakes, your feelings can even affect your mistakes. Like different circumstances can change how you view something e.g. eliott and his problems v lola and hers.
Finally the biggest development with Lucas, and that is the ongoing abandonment issues. So basically how Lucas's abandonment issues work is again very consistent. They stem in the show from S2 but overall it's a life thing. So Lucas's mum is mentally ill and has raised Lucas in that environment. That's trauma, and especially from a young age. The father and the mother obviously have an unhappy marriage. And enventually it breaks down and the mother is in a clinic and the father leaves the family. Lucas is abandoned and feels it too. He runs off to live elsewhere and in S3 he's with Mika and Lisa.
His father is dismissive and his mother very unwell. I don't know but i think the mother is schizophrenic. I'm unsure on that though. But Lucas has issues. But what he starts to do and how they manifest is that he projects them on to his environment, and if he feels a danger of someone leaving he twists it to him being unlovable and people getting sick of him. Now some of the things he does, he creates some of these issues for himself e.g. Mika and Eliott, and some are out of his hands e.g. Yann. But overall he's generally wrong and get's the wrong idea because of the reflection of how he sees himself.
So Yann leaving becomes about Lucas not being worth it instead of Yann leaving because he's hurt that several times over the season to that point, Yann cornered lucas and begged him to confide in him, and Lucas wouldn't. So lucas gets the wrong idea and Yann handles it badly.
So Eliott ending the relationship and going back to his girlfriend is about him being a party/fuck boi and using Lucas, instead of Eliott leaving because lucas broke his heart and inadvertently revealed his skam to him.
So Lucas through the abandonment issues ends up twisting perception and judging people. Like i said before. No favourites here. Lucas had a lot of trauma so i understand what he carries. Roll on S4 and they're back and Eliott isn't ready to tell his story because it was so painful that he never told Idriss he was bipolar and cut the friendship in shame and ran away. "He was alone for a long time i think" and Lucas pushing out of insecurity and fear and they end up fighting. And yes i believe like Imane said it's Eliott's story to tell and he'll tell it on his terms. So i don't agree with what Lucas did there. But abandonment issues are irrational, so i get it. (Roll on S6 with it being Lola's story to tell)
Roll on S5 and there's a talk about cheating and perception. They're in a group and chatting at the van about cheating. And you notice each boy gives their version of their story. So Yann cheated but justifies it as he fell in love with Emma. Eliott is more realistic and calls it like it is. He cheated on Lucille and he's not proud of it but he found Lucas. (And roll on S6 and the mental illness talk with Lola focusing on the need for lucas to the point he hinges his mental health on it.) So pretty consistent with "but i got to be with Lucas" Bas is niave i feel, and gives a very black and white view of the topic. Just end it and move on.
But i've always had this view myself. I have experience with cheating. My dad cheated on my mum and yet i still feel this view. That sometimes it's not that simple. It's not that black and white, and in Eliott's case burying your mental illness in the relationship to the point you're afraid to leave. And in my dad's case. Being in a failing marriage with a mentally ill wife that you still love, children and a mortgage. I'll always maintain that cheating is wrong but i have sympathy and understanding in certain cases.
So anyway, Eliott in answer to Bas's POV does the Eliott thing. He comes at the topic in a empathetic and non judgemental way. He says generally sometimes human want more and are not satisfied so seek it. Now Lucas does the same thing again, twists the perception and projects his insecurities onto Eliott. Eliott who is petting Lucas's hair isn't even thinking of the relationship. It has nothing to do with Lucas at all. It's basically philosophical thinking in that hipster way. That humans are greedy and they want everything e.g house, car, money, job etc. And he's right. Humans have done horrible things to each other in the pursuit of what they want.
But it eats at Lucas because his abandonment issues are more than just a relationship. They are deeply rooted and a huge issue. In reality he should be seeking help. It has to get to the point where you can't blame others and you need to accept that they're bigger than you. And he confides in Arthur instead of Eliott out of fear (roll on S6 Eliott doing the same thing with Lola) this is the establishment of the love bubble and they're both doing it as we can see. So lucas tells arthur that eliott cheated on Lucille and he could do it to him.
My issue with that was, Lucas cheated too but he justifies with him being gay. But the simple fact is he played Chloe and he pursued Eliott behind her back. And when Eliott hurt or disappointed him he played her even harder. So i do find this hypocritical i must say. Then he acts panphobic, but the thing is lucas isn't panphobic. His abandonment issues project and he feels fear but it's really about Eliott leaving him. So he says Eliott goes down the street and he has more choice e.g. Both boys and girls. Add aliens and robots etc. Eliott is pansexual. So he's showing he's scared that eliott will get sick of him and eventually leave (roll on S6 and Eliott having a friendship with a girl, and Lucas scared to be real, and what is about to happen with the spoiler movie)
He very clearly says he hasn't confided these fears in Eliott for fear it may rock the relationship. Oh hi love bubble again. Arthur emphasises Eliott's love for Lucas and how greater it is than his love for Lucille. (Roll on S6 and Eliott emphasising the importance of Lucas and his need for him)
The last we see of Lucas is him crying looking at the friendship mural and Eliott in love and gratitude.
So guys i said this would be 2 parts but i think it'll be 4 because again length here. And i wanted to do Eliott in this post but it's too long now. Next part will be Eliott.

hey, I've been meaning to watch Legends of Tomorrow for AGES, and obviously your deep and abiding love for the show showing up constantly on my dash has only added to this desire, but I remember hearing not great things about season one when it was on. Would you recommend starting there anyway? Should I be completionist about this, or will it put me off the rest of the show? Thanks!
Um, first of all you should DEFINITELY watch Legends of Tomorrow, you’d legit love it and the themes of found family and the way it gently takes down the myth that someone can “be a failure” and gives people who have lived awful pasts a chance to find a home? ::chef finger kiss::
I am always torn about how to answer this question because as much as season one is not good, I also love it? Allow me to explain.
Season 1 of Legends of Tomorrow is, in essence, a season belonging to a very different show compared to Season 4.
Like, the casting alone has seen huge turnover: only three of the “original” Legends team from S1 are still series regulars. I struggle with saying that the new characters are “better,” because I love a lot of the S1 originals and I know that for “practical reasons” or “time constraints” you can’t have a core cast of like 25 people but my heart wants all the Legends to stay forever.
However, I will say: S2 sees the addition of Amaya, and starts to shift the momentum away from Men Screaming Important Things At Each other and provide more woman-driven storylines and this only continues improving as the seasons progress. S4 has six core characters (not all regulars) who are women and they’re all fantastic and that’s abouuut the right balance for me lol.
(I struggle also with being like. THIS SHOW ADDED WOMEN OF COLOUR as a proxy marker for it being good, because honestly the shift was more that they added those women and then let them have narrative space and wrote bettermaterial for them.)
(There is also, fair warning, one episode in early S2 and one in early S3 where the show tries to tackle Complex Issues Related To Non-White Cultures and it ends up going very poorly bc the show is Not Qualified For That Type Of Social Commentary. We as a collective just pretend these don’t exist but if you would like a heads-up let me know.)
I love Season 1 specifically because of a lot of the things that people criticized, to be honest. Like yes a lot of the narrative driving force is just Arthur Darvill jumping up and down and screaming utter nonsense rules about how time travel works, half of which they break in the following episode, but I find that truly excellent and hilarious to watch so maybe you will too?
(I will say that a lot of my soft spot for S1 comes specifically from the characters; I love Sara’s arc and I love love love love Kendra and she’s only in S1. I rewatch their best episodes from S1 all the time because their friendship was really lovely and I think is a big part of what I appreciate from the early seasons of the show.)
A lot of my affection also comes from the sheer dumbness of it - like they were really figuring themselves out, but a lot of the things that led to enduring show tropes (ie, the annual cowboy episode) did have their roots in season one and there’s something about the sheer madcap audacity of it all that’s really charming.
I will also say that like. If you are the type of person who likes when A Man Is Sad Because His Family Has Died And He Needs To Avenge Them Or Whatever, you will probably like S1. Rip Hunter’s feelings are largely lost on me, alas.
If you were going to skip the first season, I would recommend going back to it after you’ve fallen for some of the characters, and seeing if you like it more? I’m having trouble bc my instinct is to be like NO EVERYONE MUST SIT THROUGH SEASON ONE, WHEN TIME WAS LIKE PUDDING AND WE LIKED IT THAT WAY. But also I’m not the TV police, if you need to skip stuff to enjoy the thing then you should!!
If you do want to watch S1, it also relies somewhat on viewers understanding previous CWverse canon. You may have picked this up by osmosis at this point, and you don’t need to watch anything to follow S1!. However if you’re feeling truly completionist, here is my post of episodes you could watch to get background for S1.
Hypothetically if you were going to skip ahead, the season to start on depends on what types of characters you like. I really love S2, mostly for very obvious Sara Lance related reasons. They dial way back on the screaming about time rules bit, and the dynamic between Sara and Amaya is truly magical, and I forget what else happens but Sara has probably her best hair of the series and she wears a lot of great tank tops and sweaters.
If you are more interested in the show post-Zari, she doesn’t enter until S3. Adding her into the team was a really wonderful thing, and the balance of Zari and Amaya and Sara are when the show really started to hit its stride. I’d recommend watching at least S3 and S4 if you wanted to catch up to prep for S5. S3 is also when Sara starts to get a serious core love interest, and the way the show writes that is absolutely beautiful.
If you are really just interested in diving into the present, S4 does stand pretty well on its own, but I feel like it benefits from viewers who already know and love the Legends as they are in an intangible sort of way.
Anyway. The moral of the story is: watch Legends how you want, but I think you’d love it, pal.

top 5 fics you've written, and top 5 fics you've read!!
i just wanna say up top that i fucking cheated on the numbers
i did non-aucembers in tam’s ask, so here are my top 6 aucembers
a ten-year concussion (counter/weight, ghost!jace au) - by FAR my favorite thing i wrote that month. if you asked me i could outline the entire story right now, it exists so clearly in my head
the end of all things (skyjacks inception au) - i don’t go in for lyrical or dreamy that often, because i think it’s really hard to get right. but this is something where i’m really happy with the characterization, and while even though i don’t necessarily think my writing is up to the standard i’d like, i think it is evocative enough for what i was trying to do? and that’s pretty neat
apple cider i don’t mind (neoscum modern au) - the thing about aucember is when you try and write a complete story in one day, a lot of the time i can paint something with really, really broad strokes. but this is another one that is so clear and specific to me, and what’s more i think it comes across in the fic? and also it’s fuckin cute
now i’m a stranger (sp7 go on au) - this is my favorite one from that first year. the nbc sitcom go on is very dear to me for absolutely no reason beyond john cho and watching it with my mom, and it’s such a weird and specific premise that i was happy to play with it and come up with something
the neon limelight (neoscum band au) - me? liking a band au that i wrote told through a fictional magazine profile? unheard of
i know this makes six but i do want to shout out the neoscum/starship iris au, which was so fantastically niche that i was sure nobody would even read it, and which i’ve gotten a few very lovely comments on. the lesson here is that even if you are sure you’re writing just for you, there will always be someone waiting for it.
and top 5 fics i’ve read (this post is so long already that i will not wax rhapsodic but just know i Could at a moment’s notice)
limited release, an x-men first class white collar au which was formative for me in a number of stylistic ways and also is the reason i watched white collar
united states v. barnes, a post-tws fic about bucky going on trial for treason and terrorism told through news articles, court transcripts, text messages, and other such sources. so fucking good.
next thursday, a stiles/danny fic sometime after s2 of teen wolf, which - like, listen, i quote this all the time and nobody will ever understand, and i know that, and that’s okay, but i say “conversations in parking lots aren’t real conversations” all the time and nobody gets it. also it’s very cute and romantic and teenagery in the best/worst ways
i’ve got nothing to do today but smile, an arthur/eames coffee shop au and the only coffee shop au you’ll ever need. seriously.
asunder, the only spn fic i care about. you know what i was saying about good aus being thoroughly rooted in canon? that’s this
this sudden burst of sunlight, which is a cr1 fake dating fic where the two people who are fake dating do it fully as a joke and then have to deal with their romantic interests being really put out about it. really thoughtful and a fun new take on the trope
these lines of lightning mean we’re never alone, a c/w cass/mako “so you need a fake date to piss off your family during thanksgiving?” fic that features a waking-up-sharing-a-bed scene so lovely that i often go back specifically to revisit that scene. and then reread the whole thing because it’s maybe my favorite take on euanthe tbh?
keep talking, i’ll keep walking towards the sound of your voice, an it ch2 fix-it. wherein eddie and stan become ghosts and have to watch over the rest of the losers... unless they can figure out a way back to life. i’ve read a lot of fix-its and this is maybe my favorite, because it does the right thing and also brings stan back

Hello! I'm sorry if I'm bothering you, but have you watched the Alita Battle Angel movie? If not, the synopsys is that an old doctor finds a cyborg bust in a scrapyard of trash that is dumped everyday by the floating city above, called Zalem. In your latest musing you mentioned something about trash being dumped from Atlas. What would you think if Upper Atlas were similar and it would dump trash in a scapyard, in Lower Atlas? And the workers there making use of it however they can?
Tumblr media
‘SupYellow.Always a pleasure to hear from you so no worries there fam. Unfortunately I have notseen Alita. But I definitely want to since I’ve heard positive things about it; both themanga and the recent film adaptation. Despite knowing jack about the series, Ido like the idea you present here.
It wouldn’t surpriseme if something like that were possible with Atlas. It’s funny. Folks keepreferring to Atlas by Upper and Lower. Wouldn't Upper Atlas technically be just Atlas while the lower sector is the remnants of Mantle?
Tumblr media
That’swhat I assumed it was. The lower city being Mantle below, unless I am deeplymistaken. I like the idea of Atlas dumping their trashinto Mantle with the People of Mantle living the life of scavengers;only managing to survive due to their resourceful nature by crafting workingmachinery and equipment from whatever scraps of and parts they managed tosalvage and/or pilfer from the junkyards dumped from Atlas.
It’dbe interesting if Atlas has become rather snobbish and discriminatory towardtheir Mantlese brethren over the years to the point that they don’t even donate their broken or unused materials to Mantle’scitadel, only granting them use of whatever they can scavenge from the massivepiles of junk they dump into their kingdom periodically. Like the rich andelite only granting charity to the poor by allowing them to take what they canfrom their trash bins for the week and considering that an act of generosity.
Imagine if … the Atlesians are the typeswho have grown so spoilt from their riches that they no longer see worth in their products anymore. To Atlas, it’s allabout advancement.Forwardever, backward never and when theold outdates the new, the old is disposed of so that the new can rise up andthrive. Take over even and lead them successfully towards a bright future. Itwouldn’t surprise if that is the mantra of Atlas because that is precisely whathappened with Atlas and Mantle’s history. Atlas rose up to the point that it overshadowed Mantle and rather than aid those left behind intheir predecessor kingdom, it seems that Atlas has lost all touch with itsroots.
Allthe more reason why I’m digging the concept of the People of Mantle being scavengers—thegood kind who see worth ineverything around them, since their generations have been forced to survive onso little for so long and thus become more adaptive and more appreciative ofwhat they have and cherish.  And becauseof that, they are able to make wonders with what bit they can use from the UpperWorld.
Thisalso makes me think of a really cool hunch I have concerning Penny Polendina’sfather/creator. For the sake of my musings, I’m going to refer to him as Dr. Japheth Polendina until his official canon name is revealed. If mymemory serves correctly, Gepetto isthe Italian form of the name Japheth whichis a name of Hebrew origin meaning ‘expansion’.
I think Japheth is afitting pseudo-name for Dr. Polendina since my assumption is that he is a greatand well-renowned scientist and inventor in Atlas whose inventions hascontributed towards the kingdoms’ advancement. Makes sense, right? Beyond that, another theory I have is Dr. Polendina is unlike a lot of Atlesians . Itwouldn’t surprise me if Dr. Polendina, like many from his generation (MariaCalavera and Nicholas Schnee) was born after the Great War and contributedtowards Atlas taking over from Mantle.
Tumblr media
Howeverunlike other Atlesians who seem to have discarded theirMantlese heritage and traditions, Dr. Polendina still holds stubbornly onto his.I like the irony of Dr. Polendina being old-fashioned despite being the inventor of so many creationsthat helped Atlas move forward. I think that could be a cool contrast to hischaracter. I like the idea of Dr. Polendina being a smart yet modest and humbleold man (maybe even a lil cuckoo for coco puffs), who doesn’t just create foradvancement but rather help humanity because he genuinely sees wonder and value in everything around him. Despite it being a traditionhis younger associates don’t understand and have tried to beat out of him foryears, y’know since they all mostly consider him a fossil and only keep himaround for his unique genius. Nonetheless Dr. Polendina sees worth in everything—includinga lifeless robotic husk he treated and loved like a daughter. That’s my theoryfor Dr. Polendina if you or anyone who were ever curious.
Ithink an anon-ninja once asked me what elements of Gepetto/Pinocchio I think will be incorporated in V7. Well I thinkthat’s one of them. I’d love to think that Japheth also shares a history with Arthur Watts.I can’t help this nagging hunch I have that Arthur Watts was probably the formerapprentice of Dr. Polendina who he loved like a son.
Tumblr media
Inthe Pinocchio tale, Geppetto was an elderly woodcarver whoseemed to not have any former children of his own hence why he createdPinocchio and wished for him to be a real boy.
Imagine if it was the same for Dr.Polendina. Whatif… Japheth was a man who had dedicated his life so much toadvancing Atlas that he never got the chance to have the thing he wanted morethan anything—a family or at least someone to love him like one. Picture Japheth living a depressing life where he losttouch with his former family in Mantle and the closest thing to a family he hadin Atlas was a former apprentice who he cherished like the child he never had whoended up betrayinghim before disappearing entirely, believed to be dead (i.e. Dr. Arthur Watts) and lastly, Penny—the android heloved like a daughter but also ultimately lost.
Tumblr media
Ican go on and on about my theories for Dr. Polendina but that’s the theory Imainly wish to share here. As you brought up Alita, it made me think ofsomething interesting. I have this Penny-centric theorywhere as soon as our heroes arrive in Atlas, they soon discover, much toRuby’s shock and disgust that Penny was made into a line of sentient service androidswho was being mass produced and sold to the People of Atlas.
Tumblr media
Picture Detroit Become Human but with just Penny asthe sole android series. RWBY Chibi S2 kindof teased the concept of Penny being sold as a doll. So what ifthat will be the case for V7? What if…in current Atlas, Penny is now a popular brand of service androiddolls sold to the Atlesian public to perform many different roles insociety. Picture Penny being like the Barbie Doll of Atlas exceptthat she’s a life-sized sentient machine. Picture all kinds of Penny models beingsold each programmed with a series of different functions tailor made to fitwhatever role her user/buyer bought her to perform.
Imagine Ruby standing in acity populated with different Pennies—-Waitress Penny, Nurse Penny, Traffic Cop Penny, TourGuide Penny, etc.—who all look and sound just like Ruby’s Pennybut isn’t her. And what’s even more horrifying to Ruby is what Penny’s legacyhas dissolved into. Back in V3 I believe, Penny told Ruby that she wasoriginally made to protect Remnant. She was made to be a hero. The first of her kind tobe used to protect humanity.
Imagine howmuch of an insult it would be if this is what Ruby finds out Atlasdid to her friend after she was murdered. Not remember her as a hero butbasically a living toy to beused and abused as her consumers feel.
Tumblr media
That’sinsane!Which is all the more reason why I want this theory to come true. I was askedlong ago by a FNDM fam about how Ruby would feel if she saw Penny locked away insidesome pod inside a laboratory. I never got around to actually answering that questionbecause Tumblr buried the original response post I was going to edit. If thatuser happens to read all of my answer posts, here is my answer to your questionnow.
Rubyreacting to a rebuilt Penny being locked safely inside a pod? Ahahaa! How about I giveyou something grimmer?
Ontop of Atlas mass producing Penny and treating her like a plaything rather than the heroshe was meant to be, you wanna know my theory for what they did with originalPenny?
Myhunch is that originalPenny is put in the trash. Meaningthat after her body was returned to Atlas, there was a meeting between themembers of the Atlas Council debating on whether or not the military projectPenny was born from should be terminated or not. Even though Ironwood is the mainauthoritarian from Atlas that we’ve met so far, I’d like to think there is another topleader calling the shots whoIronwood actually serves under.
Ifthe Atlas Council is anything like Vale’s, then there are at least threemembers on the council governing the Kingdom. From what I remember back in V4,Ironwood says he holds two seats on the council. This leaves the third and lastseat and it’s here where I think we’ll have a new authoritarian character who Ironwoodlistens to.
Basicallyit was this Atlas Council Member introduced and signed off on the idea ofturning Penny into a doll to be sold to the public.  I don’t know of any puppet masters in any knownfairy tales but perhaps this Councilman, as I’ll refer to him in mymusings, could be based off of the Coachman from Pinocchio. In the 1883 book TheAdventures of Pinocchio, the Coachman was a villain who kidnapped children tobring them to Toy Island in which the bad children turned into donkeys.
Tumblr media
IfFNDM fam thought General Ironwood was a cross due to his deep authoritarian waysand leadership then imagine someone worse than Ironwoodbut lacking the compassion. Picture… the Councilman being the type to make ajackass out of the General Ironwood since Ironwood generally has torun everything by him and the Councilman has Ironwood wrapped around his pinkie, especially now that he hasn’t been well—psychologically. I actually kinda digthis idea.
Sothe Councilman convinces Ironwood that the best way to dissolve the mess the Vytalescapade left on the military and the People of Atlas following Beacon is to turnPenny into a doll series—allowing her to fulfil the purpose she was made for.Serving humanity by serving humanity as a service doll. There are even Penniesbeing used by the military.
WhileDr. Polendina wouldn’t sign off on something like this—imagine it being oneof those uncomfortable scenarios where one’s hand is forced because they arebacked into a corner by people trying to either bullyor manipulate them. In the case of Japheth, it was both theCouncilman trying to bully him into doing his job for the military and Ironwood, though sympathetic towards the doctor and his loss, still trying to somewhatemotionally manipulate the man into doing as he and the Councilman ordered byusing Penny and the reasons she was made in the first place as his motive.
It’snot a nice game but in the end, against his wishes, Dr. Polendina had no choicebut to hand over his research and the original body of Penny and concur as themilitary—mainly the Councilman did what they pleased with her.
Andin the end, once they were done, they didn’t even have the common courtesy toreturn Penny to her father. Instead, like many things in Atlas, Penny wasdiscarded and her remains ended up in the junkyards near Mantle. I even have away RWBY canincorporate Monstro into the Atlas Arc. You know how in Pinocchio,Gepetto got swallowed by the giant whale?
Tumblr media
Wellwhat if…at some point, the heroes visit Lower Atlas on their voyage towards Mantle. Mytheory is that at some point during the Schnee Family Affairsstoryline of the Atlas Arc, Weiss will go in search of her missing grandfatherNicholas Schnee and her searches will take her and her friends down from Atlasinto Mantle’s depth. During their voyage, the group end up in the junkyardsbelow.
Apparently, people aren’t allowed to go in the junkyards. Part of it is due to Atlas being stingy towards Mantle even with their junk and anotheris for the reason that there is a massive Grimm known to roam the junkyards. That monster is GrimmMonstro—a colossal land whale type Grimm that burrows undergroundand swims through the sea of garbage in the junk piles looking for anyunsuspecting victims to rise up and swallow.
I have this idea where Ruby andOscar are swallowed alive by Grimm Monstro and it’s in the belly of the Grimm where Ruby discovers Penny’s originaldestroyed body. Perhaps…as a better alternative, that’s how she and Oscargot swallowed in the first place. Ruby spots OG Penny while in the junkyard.Goes off on her own to retrieve her despite Oscar’s initial warnings that somethingfelt off about the junkyard however Ruby ignores hisadvice. Ruby makes it to Penny’s body in time for Grimm Monstro to rise up.Oscar jumps in to rescue Ruby. The two try their best to outrun the giant Grimmbut end up getting swallowed alive. That could be FREAKING EPIC!
Tumblr media
Little Red Riding Hood and PrincessOzma working together to escape Monstroand save themselves plus Pinocchio is a future RWBY episodeI’d love to see for Atlas. YES PLEASE! Sign my ass up!
Andif all that comes true, we could even get Ruby and Oscar working together to revive original Penny.
Ifmy theory about Oscarawakening his inner mechanic and inventor comes to fruition, imagine Ruby begging Oscar to help her revive her formerfriend using his skills. Knowing and fully understanding how much this means toRuby, Oscar accepts and the two rosebuds get to work together. I would lovethis so much!
Ithink this could be really cool especially if after Penny gets successfully restoredthrough Oscar’s know-how, she starts calling Oscar ‘brother’. I’ll give you three veryimportant reasons why I love this idea.
Firstly,I’ve seen some fans comparing Oscar to Penny so me, being the proud Pinehead and Polendiva (Penny Polendina fan) that I amstarted to dig the idea of Penny and Oscar having a brother-sister dynamic.Like after Oscar helps rebuild her, Penny starts treating him like he was her big brother. Not father since Dr. Japheth is her father.
Secondly,I like Penny calling Oscar ‘brother’ because of the obvious, very on the nosecall back to FMA. Come on! You know how much I love those.
Andlastly, I love this idea because it appeals to another Pinehead headcanon I have where Oscar becomes an apprentice under Dr. Polendina anddevelops a father/son bond with the old inventor. I did say I wantedOscar to have a godmother type character who adopts him in Atlas. Perhapsinstead of a fashion designer, it’s an genius inventor who acts as hisgodfather.
Penny andDr. Polendina both adopting Oscar into their family = HELLA FREAKING YES.
You know my mantra. #EverybodyAdoptsOscar
I’dlove to expand more on this idea some more but I think I’ll save it for anothermusing. This response post is long enough. But for what it’s worth, I hope youlike my answer Yellow.Let me know what you think if you can pretty please. Would like to hear yourthoughts on my thoughts.

omg i see you like the oa!!!! have you finished s2? the ending made me think of wish upon lol!
I just finished it about an hour ago, and I’m legit that Pikachu meme still haha! There better be a season three! Holy shit, I never saw the ending coming - just like last season haha! It’s so good and just downright bizarre at times! But yeah, I got the Wish Upon feels too. I love the idea of multiverses in general, so it’s kinda funny to think maybe in some world we’re all the fictional characters and Arthur is the person sitting at home rooting for us instead haha!

some story lines feel trapped in amber, sometimes
Okay, so this is not the usual meta about VLD per se, nor is it really much about writing or storytelling or whatever. It’s more pondering why I feel a subtle dissatisfaction with VLD. And I don’t mean of the hate-watch sort, or even the neutral ‘could care less’ sort.
More like, idk, hiking with a single seed down in my sock. Not enough of a pebble to be worth stoping to get it out. Small enough you sort of rearrange your foot to shove the teeny thing out of the way. Except even when it’s not bothering you directly anymore, it’s still there, and you know it. I’m feeling dissatisfaction of that sort.
And I think I’ve narrowed down what I think it is, and if I were to sum it up, I’d say it’s something like: the story is both too flat, and its twists are not rooted in the now.
But that’s probably way too encapsulated. Let me try again.
The first season felt... isolated. The main crew meets others but those characters don’t stick around for long, giving an episodic feel despite the forward momentum. They also don’t raise any major questions (ie, Shiro’s arm, history of the empire, rebellion efforts), let alone chase after answers. For a story set in space, it feels awfully... small.
Outside individual motivations (ie Hunk and the Balmera, Pidge and her family), the driving forces are backwards-facing. Allura wants to avenge her father’s death, which to the average person would be like having a personal vendetta about King Arthur’s fate. Zarkon’s motivation is equally backwards-looking, and frankly, “I want that lion because it’s mine” is just not that compelling to me.
Onto S2: the world starts expanding (finally). There’s questions about Shiro, and here the backstory makes sense, because it’s tied directly to the premise that opens the entire story: why were three exploring humans captured, how did only one escape, etc.
But the story then shifts backwards again, with Keith’s backstory, which both isn’t explained and is something he wasn’t even aware of. Add in Zarkon’s continued obsession, and I can’t shake the sense that while it’s all very well and good what’s happening now, this is a lot of sturm und drang when the rest of the universe has, frankly, moved the hell on.
If Voltron was a children’s story [per the Balmorans], Zarkon should’ve been a living god, and the military would’ve been ninety-percent bureaucracy. Except that’s not how it is, and the universe hasn’t moved on. Which makes it all feel incredibly... static, as a result. Like, everyone just stopped, when Zarkon took over.
No advances in technology. No expanding civilizations. No cultural dominance on the part of the Galra. No aristocratic (or even corporate) families turning into warlords and claiming their own pockets of rule. No bureaucratic morass that churns out battleships with regular upgrades.  Altean technology should’ve been the equivalent of banging rocks together, by the time Allura woke up.
In S3, with Shiro out of the picture, we lost the only protagonist driven by something that happened recently (and that addresses directly the story’s premise). While the world is expanding with rebels and whatnot, the new antagonist isn’t that compelling, for a different reason. Yes, it’s very interesting he’s got his own agenda, and that’s lovely, but his job as the antagonist is to be an obstacle for the protagonists.
By that measure, he’s absolutely a mediocre antagonist. If Lotor had shown up mid-S1, my reaction might be different. Then, he’d be a minor antagonist, providing episode-long obstacles, at most, for the paladins to overcome on their way to dealing with the ‘real’ antagonist.
By S4, we’ve been given question after question and the story has answered none of them. It’s been forty episodes and the only major payoff so far has been Pidge finding her brother.
We’ve got a backstory episode that changes absolutely nothing about the present. Its only conclusion is actually a massive non sequitor: Lotor’s goal is to re-open the rift. On what grounds? Where in that entire episode did we even see Lotor?
With Shiro stepping back into his former role, and Zarkon returning, it’s as though the entire story just hit rewind. Didn’t we go through this already?
Worse, now we have multiple questions about Lotor, too, and none of them are rooted in the here-and-now. Learning any answers about Lotor won’t change Lotor, because he already knows his own history. And beyond that, his sole motivation appears to be equally rooted in the past: his mother did X, and he’ll continue her work.
No surprise the foreground has flattened. There are no factions between the rebels, no ancient enmities between certain peoples. no disputes about what to do, because the story doesn’t have the time. It’s spending all its energy on scattering more and more backstory hints, until the foreground story almost feels like filler.
I mean: did the entire universe just put itself on virtual hold until all these people woke back up again? When are we gonna get the character who points out that, hello, ten thousand years ago, get the hell over it already. Deal with the world as it is, now -- except it’s clearly a world nearly identical to the one that existed when Allura went to sleep. Same technology, same political structure, even the same goddamn major players.
With the exception of Keith and Shiro -- both of whom are operating with some ignorance of their backstories -- the other paladins have no personal ties to any of this ancient history. Everyone else knows their own stories. Lotor knows where he came from; he’s just not telling. Haggar didn’t care to ask, before, then she learns, and... it doesn’t change a thing. Sendak knew and wouldn’t tell, Ulaz knew and the story wouldn’t let him tell, Kolivan might know but the story conveniently never gives him time to tell. Hell, the four generals probably know something but they’re not talking, either.
So we are left in the dark, like the paladins, but the point here is: why the hell should I care? It’s ancient history. Move the hell on, already.
It seems like the story that really interests the writers -- and for which they’ve come up with a seemingly complex history -- lies not in the story they’re actually telling, but in the story before this one. In which case, why not just tell the story they’re really focused on, instead?

What do are you thoughts re May function in S4. I’m a huge fan and would love to hear your thoughts. TY.
Hello anon! Thanks for the ask. I’ve done it again…
*******SPOILERS*******
Have a warning bc there are a couple not linked to the promos…
Honestly I’ve really no idea what to make of May’s role in s4. SK mentioned early doors that Charlotte Riley would be returning so there’s been no secret of it despite the fact she’s not in the trailer. There are a few bts shots from the Black Country Living Museum (this post from ofycm (x) which interestingly links to an article from which all but one of the images have been removed…). And there’s that Charlotte’s golden wrapped (from @burgessinthestreets (x)).
So, it looks like May heads back to Birmingham to collect a bay horse, purchased by Tommy, to train. Perhaps this is the scene that answers Tommy’s line of 3.06 about buying a racehorse and having it trained, perhaps it’s a thing that has become reasonably commonplace between s3 and s4. The horse seems about as representative of May’s character as Grace’s Secret was of her namesake so she’s probably a mare called the Ghost of Love or some such sentimental Tommy-type tosh. May is wearing a wedding ring so she has married sometime between the Epsom Derby and 1926. Not Tommy though, who doesn’t wear one. Are we looking at a revisit of the ‘old flames giving in to temptation’ plot? Perhaps. She’s in the brown/dun tones that seem to be a big costume theme for the series: Tommy has a brown suit for the first time, Arthur has a tie, John has his tweed; Aidan Gillen and Jack Rowan, the Golds, are also in brown. I’m not sure if it means more than just being a unifying aesthetic choice, but it does feel a bit like ‘team colours’ for Shelby interests, the men anyway. And May.
I don’t believe any filming was done at Chatsworth so it’s unlikely that May’s home is a location. There was however something filmed in the stairwell at Casterne Hall (x) which is clearly not subbing for Arrow House (they filmed at Arley Hall) so it’s possible she’s moved. Casterne also has stables which might have been used. This is all pure conjecture; Casterne would be a huge step down for her and she is dressed as pure wealth.
Now I guess we’re into reading between the lines of the script and it’s all a bit observational. I think we can discount the potential foreshadowing of the s2 lines: “I will win you” and “I will find you.” It seems very much to me based on that scene under the bridge that Charlie Murphy’s character (maybe Jessie Eden as we’ve been speculating for ages, who would tie in to the ‘return to roots’ idea as well as being Tommy’s match in terms of grit and ambition) is the one to receive Tommy’s affections. And if Charlotte’s not coming back that’s kind of a kibosh on the idea as well, at least in the ultimate sense. But when Tommy tells Tatiana that she ‘didn’t even come close’ in 3.06 the line is proximate enough to the racehorse-buying line to make the audience at least recall May. Whether or not she was immediately in Tommy’s thoughts. That Grace’s Secret was reasonably prominent in the s3 paintings also had the deliberately ironic effect of turning viewers’ thoughts to May. We never saw her in the flesh; where was she stabled? Was there communication going on about which we are unaware? I just don’t know. It’s a wait-and-see. I don’t think Tommy was sleeping with her because of the line to Lizzie her being the one who kept his heart from breaking - “no-one else.” It’s possible they’ve been hooking up since s3. May represented ‘business’ (or at least business as it stood in s2) and when Tommy doesn’t have love to look for, that’s where his attentions are directed. May might love her husband, she might not, her marriage might have been an alliance of business interests and money the way Tommy’s was of love. They have both now lost their first spouse who was also their true love. Tommy does have Charlie though who is a constant reminder of Grace…
Speaking of that, the other thing in s3 to recall May was the moment in 3.03 when Tommy put the photo of Grace and Charlie in the drawer in his office, like she did with her dead husband’s image. The gesture removed Grace from ‘business’ dealings forevermore, but she was almost omnipresent at home, to the extent of semi-reverence. Tommy’s grief stands very much in contrast to May’s iconoclasm. Whether or not that’s relevant going forward - who can say?
A Complete and Utter Theory: May’s influence is going to be useful to Tommy somehow in s4 and he might have to work to regain her trust to access that. His ‘business’ woman of the series. Again.
And a final thought:  I’m slightly intrigued by the fact that the only interaction May had with anybody not Tommy was Esme and their conversation made explicit how similar their backgrounds are. Although things have moved on, it’s striking that in relation to Tommy and John they are both a very good second choice even if affection lies elsewhere. Their relationships were both built on what is good for Shelby business. Even their names are similar. I wonder if that parallel is going to raise itself again with the fallout of what looks to all appearances like John’s death?

Hello! Just read your re watch post. Could you say more about "the moment when Finch admits defeat and lets Root out, and TM starts ringing the phone immediately as soon as Root is out"? I really want to hear your opinion about Harold, Root, and TM's dynamic and how it changed the other ep. (Also, there's another moment when Harold refused to answer TM's calls right?)(Also, if I remembered it right it's the same episode Root referred John as Finch's the greatest creation right? I was like OmG)
Hiya! *waves confidently like I’m not super late in replying to this amazing ask*
Oh my god I have so many thoughts about Root and Harold’s journey (like in general, but also definitely during s3 of the show when they went from enemies to allies). Their entire arc in s3 was absolute genius because you can see the gradual shift happening over the earlier half of the season even before the big event of Root Path.
We can already hear a difference in tone when Harold shares with Root his dreams about seeing every line of code he ever wrote for TM as compared to earlier in s2 when they had a pure enemies dynamic. We see a marked difference yet again in his body language when he snaps at Root at the end of Mors (”And how can you be so certain, Miss. Groves, that The Machine does not wish you to be precisely where you are?”) as compared to when he talks to her at the end of TDS (”You came back?”). Compare Harold’s panic when Root escaped the psychiatric facility in Lady Killer (3x03) to his terse “find them, Mr. Reese” when she kidnapped Shaw in Mors (3x06) to his reaction when she called him at the end of Aletheia (3x12). He’s not worried about her being out and free during the last instance. He accepts that she is going to work for TM to solve the problem of the Samaritan drives and doesn’t insist that she be brought back to The Library immediately.
If Root Path is the major turning point in their relationship, then here’s what I think is the minor one – Root coming back to the Faraday’s Cage of her own volition at the end of TDS when she could’ve just disappeared into thin air. Harold was forced to let her out purely because he needed to find John and clearly wasn’t comfortable with the idea whatsoever (”I know this is our only option Miss. Shaw, I just want to make sure we’re prepared for what may happen”). He never expected to see her in The Library again, and the fact that she chose to come back and outright stated that she did so because she wanted the chance to fight alongside Harold went a long way towards reassuring him.
I think that while Root Path is when Harold accepted that he himself could work with Root if need be, TDS/Lethe/Aletheia is when he accepted that Root could work with TM. It was when he shifted his focus from worrying about what may happen if Root and TM worked together, to what would happen if they didn’t with the new looming threat of SAM on the horizon.
(Hmmm I think Harold refused to pick up the payphone in Lethe because he got Arthur’s number via Root (HT @isagrimorie for reminding me which ep). And The Crossing was when Root referred to John as Harold’s creation. I totally went “omg!” at that too!)

Bluebird by waldorph (Star Trek; Spirk; 7k; Jim whipped around so fast most of his drink ended up on Spock, who was reaching for the phaser that wasn’t there. The Enterprise crew was parting like the biblical seas before Moses, and Jim could feel the temperature dropping. “Mom,” Jim croaked.)
Misethere by astolat (Witcher 3; Geralt/Emhyr; 46k; Emhyr was looking at him for once, with a strange expression. “I have misjudged you,” he said, sounding irritated actually: how dare Geralt surprise him.“I get that a lot,” Geralt said.)
Blooded Crown by astolat (Witcher 3; Geralt/Emhyr; 24k; “You need not thank me,” Emhyr said. “I have an ulterior motive.”It annoyed Geralt to be surprised. He should’ve known from the start. “Yeah?” The words came out with a little bite. “Have another daughter you need me to track down?”“If I wished to hire you, I would hire you,” Emhyr said. “No: I want you to come to my bed.”)
Cursed by astolat (Witcher 3; Geralt/Emhyr; 8k;  Geralt was reasonably sure this was the worst damn day of the worst damn month of his life, and it hadn’t hit bottom yet.)
July:
The War of Silver and Ash by astolat (Witcher 3; Geralt/Emhyr; 15k; He hadn’t come here with a contract. He’d come here to get the faces out of his head: the bloodless dead sprawled in heaps through the streets of Beauclair, the morning after the rampage Detlaff had unleashed; the blank eyes of the boy in the orphanage tilting his head to let Orianna drink from his throat, with the lullaby she’d been singing him still hanging in the air.Wasn’t working that well so far.)
A Year In Toussaint by astolat (Witcher 3; Geralt/Emhyr; 30k; Geralt had no damn idea what to do with a vineyard when Anna Henrietta gave him Corvo Bianco, but he figured it couldn’t be that bad.)
circling by xpityx (Witcher 3; Geralt/Emhyr; 5k; Emhyr sighed, as if Geralt’s lack of immediate understanding was a fundamental failure of his character.)
Running Behind by Asidian (FFXV; Prompto/Noctis; WIP;  There's a tag hanging on his storage pod, instead of the clipboard that documents his progress. On that tag, there's a single word stamped in red: defective.)
Toys by astolat (Lucifer; Lucifer/Chloe; 2k; “You want to fuck me!” he said gleefully.)
Emblazoning by astolat (Merlin; OT4; 19k; Morgana turned away from the high, barred window and rubbed her arms, chilled and bare. Arthur was sitting in the dirty straw at the very limit of his chains, which kept him a few inches too far away to touch Merlin's limp body. Outside they were putting up the stake.)
Redemption Merry Go-Round by astolat (Lucifer; Lucifer/Dan/Chloe; 8k;  Dan was deeply sorry for whatever he’d done in his life that had landed him in this mess, and also reasonably sure that despite all the shit he’d pulled in the last couple of years, he still didn’t deserve this.)
wild peaches by notbecauseofvictories (The Labyrinth; Sarah/Goblin King; 3k;  The morning after Sarah Williams defeats the Goblin King, she gets up and makes toast.)
where the weeds take root by beenghosting (Supernatural; Destiel; 30k+;  “Are you happy? Y’know. Just—being here,” Dean says, gesturing to the yard with his beer bottle. “Being with—I mean, you used to fight in celestial wars and—and save the world. Now you’re growing vegetables and talking about chickens.”)
damnatio memoriae by temporalDecay (Witcher 3; Geralt/Emhyr; 12k;  “May I walk the estate?” Emhyr repeated, and his nose crinkled in that familiar twitch of displeasure that Geralt had always secretly delighted in causing, despite how downright suicidal it was to invoke it on purpose. “I'm not going to run away,” he added, with a slight glare. “I'm merely bored.”)
Heart and Home by lc2l (Les Mis; Enjolras/Grantaire; 97k; In an alternate Paris, werewolves occupy the majority of the ruling classes, making and adjusting policy to suit their interests. The punishments for a human attacking a werewolf can be brutal, unless they have the protection of a wolf pack. How this translates to 'claim Grantaire as your mate to get him out of prison' is something Enjolras is still trying to get his head around, but he's never been one to give up on a cause even when it's sleeping on his sofa.)
August
How the Future's Done by barricadeur (Les Mis; Enjolras/Grantaire; 12k;  "Grantaire," he says slowly. "What do you have in that box?")
vocal ink by sarahyyy (Les Mis; Enjolras/Grantaire; 3k; “Officially, we don’t have a leader, everyone here is equal,” Courfeyrac says, keeping his voice low as Enjolras starts his speech, “but if we did, and we don’t, it would be Enjolras.” He looks over to Marius. “Do not approach him. Let him come to you, let him be the first to initiate conversation, and for the love of God, do not mention soulmates.”)
Years Since It's Been Clear by lady_ragnell (Les Mis; Enjolras/Grantaire; 10k;  Grantaire really doesn't expect Enjolras to force him to move in with him when he hears how shitty Grantaire's apartment is. And he definitely doesn't expect Enjolras to want him to stay, or how easy it turns out to be, or the way Enjolras has a habit of doing his studying in the sunshine on the living room floor ...)
Tolerable (Inuyasha; Sesshomaru&Miroku; 30k; “The scent is not entirely unpleasant.”)
Silence Is the Speech of Love by lady_ragnell (Les Mis; Enjolras/Grantaire; 50k; Grantaire's life has a pattern: he pays his respects to Aphrodite, he goes to work, he loves Enjolras and provokes him because he can't bring himself to do otherwise.)
The Five Year Plan by Neery (Les Mis; Enjolras/Grantaire; 16k;  Enjolras loses his memory. Thankfully, nothing unexpected seems to have happened to him in the five years he can't remember. Well, except for the boyfriend. The boyfriend's kind of a surprise.)
dance this silence down (the emergency room remix) by Fahye (Les Mis; Enjolras/Grantaire; 54k;  He's sitting in a car with all of his belongings in the back seat and his hands wrapped around the steering wheel, admitting to himself that a stupid, dizzy firework of a one-night-stand with a man he'd barely known is one of the only bright memories he has right now.)
World Ain't Ready by idiopathicsmile (Les Mis; Enjolras/Grantaire; 185k; Enjolras presses his lips together. He already looks pained, and Grantaire hasn't even opened his mouth yet. That's got to be a record, even for them."I need a favor," he says at last)**
The Ghost of You by luchia (Les Mis; Enjolras/Grantaire; 25k; Grantaire moves into an apartment inhabited by a poltergeist. Enjolras haunts him, and Grantaire should really win an award for most complicated relationship status ever.)
box of secrets by nightswatch (Les Mis; Enjolras/Grantaire; 53k;  Grantaire leaves his doodles all over the place. Enjolras collects them without knowing who drew them.)
Yes, Sir by mikkimouse (Voltron; Sheith; 8k; "Are you all ready to get started?""Yes, sir!" twenty voices answered in unison.Shiro's stomach flipped at the words. Oh, no.The soulmark on his right wrist burned, confirmation that his soulmate was one of the twenty people who'd just uttered the phrase.)
despite what you've been told by caseyvalhalla (Yuri On Ice; Yuuri/Viktor; 14k; When Victor falls, he goes down hard.)
these things take time by sonhoedesrazao (Les Mis; Enjolras/Grantaire; 63k;  He’s always wary of making assumptions; even more so when Grantaire is concerned. He knows he’s not the easiest person to deal with. People either like him or can’t stand him, and it’s easy to respond to those reactions, but Grantaire—Grantaire is hostile and mocking, Grantaire scorns his beliefs, and Grantaire stays.)
In the End We Have Each Other by samyazaz (Les Mis; Enjolras/Grantaire; 50k; what startles Enjolras the most is that he manages approximately half a step through the door into the back room where they all meet before Grantaire rattles his glass down on the table in the back that he's taken for his own and drawls, "Is there something you forgot to tell us, Apollo?"That silences the room, predictably enough. Everyone breaks off their conversations and swivels to stare at him. At him, and at the baby carrier that he's got hooked over one arm.)
True Colors by lady_ragnell (Les Mis; Enjolras/Grantaire; 4k;  The first thing that catches Enjolras's eye when he enters the Musain Cafe for the first time is the walls. They're a dull black that it takes him a moment to realize must be chalkboard paint, because near the tables there are words and doodles, and all over, even the erased sections are stained with faint colored marks like the walls have soulmarks.)
Hit Me With Your Best Shot by tellthemstories (Les Mis; Enjolras/Grantaire; 10k; Fourteen times Grantaire tried to kill Enjolras. And one time he fell in love.)
RSVP (+1) by tellthemstories (Les Mis; Enjolras/Grantire; 21k;  When Enjolras is invited to Marius and Cosette’s wedding, he fully intends to ignore the ‘plus one’ on the invite. He’s busy at work and he has a lot on - he doesn’t have time for relationships. What he doesn’t expect is for Grantaire to invite himself along and then hit it off immediately with all of his friends.)
always there to remind you by estora, taywen (Dishonored; Corvo/Daud; 8k;  Later, after he had killed a number of people for coin, but before he killed so many that he lost count, Daud was glad he had no mark. No soulmate deserved to have his words marked on their skin.)
( Watercast by Fishwrites (Voltron; Lance/Keith; 96k; WIP;  Shiro has been a Galra prisoner for over a year; with his flight feathers clipped and unable to fly. Desperate to escape, he jumps overboard while being transported to the capitol on a Galran ship. Lance is a merman who saves him from drowning. Keith thinks Shiro is about to become mermaid dinner. Hunk just wants Lance to stop going to the surface all the time, dammit!))
