“All I Can Feel” by DJ Sabrina the Teenage DJ

It’s taken a couple decades, but DJ Sabrina the Teenage DJ has finally answered the question no one asked: What would it sound like to build an entire career out of The Avalanches’ “A Different Feeling” and Daft Punk’s “Digital Love”? Turns out you get three hour albums exclusively made up of vibes: the perfect soundtrack for a party where no one wants to pay too much attention to the music, low risk and low reward. Like Jamie XX with any remaining edges gently sanded off. What’s notable about “All I Can Feel,” which takes its title from a Wilson Phillips sample, is the way it sounds like an evolution. There’s more structure here, even if it is spread over seven minutes. And there’s simply more density: compared to something like “New Year’s Resolution”, which runs its Camera Obscura sample into the ground and then backs over it a few times, “All I Can Feel” is positively nimble, fading in and out of multiple hooks before they lose their potency. DJSTTDJ weaves this mashup deftly, with an ebb and flow smooth enough that it’s possible to miss the way the song takes you on a journey and back again. I think "All I Can Feel” is the best song I’ve heard so far this year; it’s definitely the hardest to get out of my head. Maybe mashups really are back.

I can’t help but agree that “All I Can Feel” sounds like background music. Even “vibes” feels like too strong a descriptor for art that is little more than a cut and paste collage on top of a sturdy 4/4 beat. In fact, “All I Can Feel” strikes me as, unfortunately, sad. It’s as though instead of having that party where no one wants to pay too much attention to the music, DJ Sabrina the Teenage DJ embedded the din of the party into the track and then spent the evening alone and lonely. Maybe I’m intoxicated on fear of the AI future, but this stuff sounds so dystopian to me, like we don’t even need friends made of flesh anymore, like any voice beckoning to us from beyond the screen will suffice. If that’s the worst case scenario, the best one might be that “All I Can Feel” is lo-fi study beats for the kids who can’t focus when it’s too quiet.

Hot Vintage TV Women's Bracket - List of the Ladies!

As promised below is a full list of all 130 women in the Hot Vintage TV Women's Tournament! Thank you to everyone who submitted their favs!

Just a brief bit of cleanup before the list. Thank you for all the submissions. If your submission didn't make it into the bracket or some of your propaganda isn't used know that I still appreciated the submission even if we weren't able to use it. Some things got cut for being outside the bounds of the tournament, some things got cut because the links were broken, etc. Anything I wasn't sure about got brought to family and friends for a second opinion. I did my best to keep as much in as possible but some things just ended up leaning too far outside of our criteria. If you notice some stuff that seems outside the criteria slip by it's because I tried to be very generous so as long as something wasn't obviously outside of our time period or rules I usually gave it a pass.

Anyway, I am working on the bracket as we speak and apologize in advance cause I don't think there's any way to make round 1 completely painless, as you'll see we have a pretty stacked line-up so I'm excited to see how things work out! Weeby’s Random Thoughts #8 (The Barbie Series)

The Island Princess:

In a time long past, a young princess, Mylene (Ro) is shipwrecked on a remote island during a terrible storm. She’s found by Nino (Sagi), a red panda, Jean (Azul), the “Prince of Peacocks”, and Jesse (Tika), a young elephant, who take care of her. Mylene remembers nothing of her past but her own name, and grows up peacefully on the island for years, learning to speak to animals. But one day, a young prince, Ivan (Antonio), happens to land his ship on the island, and meets Mylene after she saves him and his good friend, Max (Frazier), the royal scientist, from crocodiles. He invites her back to the mainland with him to help her find her family, and Mylene agrees, taking her animal family with her. They meet Ivan’s parents and his little sister, Princess Sasha, who quickly bonds with the animals. But they also meet Princess Genevieve, or “Evie” (Luciana), the girl Ivan’s parents have arranged for him to marry, and her grandmother, Queen Lorena**. (Ariana) Lorena wants revenge on Ivan’s parents for a long-forgotten ‘slight’, and has a plot involving a poisonous herb. But Evie is very kind and recognizes that Ivan and Mylene have fallen in love, wishing to find that for herself. But Mylene has great trouble fitting in and often ends up embarrassing herself. After the engagement ball, where Mylene stuns everyone in a gorgeous dress her animal family and Sabrina (Tallulah), the queen’s pet monkey, helped her make, Queen Lorena realizes that Mylene is a threat to her plans, and plots to frame her own poisoning of the kingdom’s wildlife as a sickness that Mylene and her “wild animals” caused. This plan seems to succeed when all animals in the kingdom suddenly fall ill, but with the help of her friends and the prince she’s fallen in love with, the lost princess may be able to save the day!

Rapunzel:

In another kingdom, in a distant time, a young man with long, beautiful red hair named Nathaniel (Rapunzel) lives in an isolated manor deep in the forest, hidden behind a magic wall. He works as a servant for the master of the manor, Cash (Gothel), who raised him since he was supposedly abandoned as a baby. While a prisoner, Nathaniel has the comfort of his painting and his two best friends, the young dragon, Alix (Penelope), and Petra (Hobie), an anxious rabbit. One day, Nathaniel discovers a paintbrush engraved with a message from his parents, which confuses him, shortly after, finding a tunnel to a nearby village in the kingdom of Queens Penny and Alyssa Anciel (King Frederick). It’s here that he meets Prince Marc (Prince Stefan), after saving his younger brother, Kiran (Katrina) from a pit trap set by the Queen of a neighboring kingdom, Aya (Wilhelm). Marc explains the feud to Nathaniel, who must then rush back to the manor, but he’s too late. He was spotted in the village by Cash’s pet ferret, Phillipe (Otto). Cash turns Nathaniel’s room into a tower, keeping him confined, but the boy discovers the paintbrush from his parents is magic, and he can travel through the images he paints. He escapes once again, meeting Marc, who invites him to the royal ball. But Cash prevents him from going by cutting his long hair and disguising himself as Nathaniel. But with the help of Alix and Petra, Nathaniel is able to escape the now-enchanted tower in order to save the prince he’s fallen for…and his long lost mother…

Hi! First I want to say that I love reading your blog/reviews, you always help me find something new to read. I was wondering if you can recommend me some books with a specific trope I usually enjoy and been craving to read lately. I don't know if you've read ''Just Imagine'' by Susan Elizabeth Phillips, but I really loved how the heroine was poor in the beginning and was kind of unrefined and an ''ugly swan'', but then grew up to be elegant and beautiful and smarter. Any similar recs?

Oh, thank you so much! That is extremely flattering. I try my best!

First off, if you haven't watched Sabrina (both the one with Humphrey Bogart and Audrey Hepburn AND the one with Harrison Ford and Julia Ormond, if I'm being real) you absolutely should, because those movies are EXACTLY that and pure romances. Heroine is the shy butler/driver guy's daughter who of course is not noticed despite being played both times by stunners, and she's in love with this cold, grumpy tycoon's playboy younger brother. She forlornly goes to Paris for a while and returns super chic and sophisticated. She immediately catches the attention of the guy she believes she's in love with, but he's engaged to this woman and his marriage would be strategically important for the company, so the older brother decides to distract Sabrina from him... and of course... falls in love for real.

When the Duke was Wicked by Lorraine Heath might hit for this! The main reason why the hero didn't notice the heroine is that she's a good bit younger than him (nine years) buuuut she was infatuated with him from a young age. Her father is a duke and her mother is formerly lower class, and she was brought up around a gambling hell, so she was seen as like... kind of a semi-tomboy card shark who spent a lot of time with her brothers. She asks the hero to help her find a good husband, and he's immediately like "well shit, she sure has grown up... a lot hotter". An all time favorite of mine--so romantic and passionate.

I hate to recommend this, because I don't... dislike it, but I have a lot of issues with it. But you might want to check out Romancing Mr. Bridgerton by Julia Quinn. Penelope is seen as gauche, largely due to her mother, but begins getting noticed (mostly by Colin) later. A thing I do dislike about this is that like... a part of this is that she lost weight. Lol, I often describe When the Duke Was Wicked as "Romancing Mr. Bridgerton if it didn't suck" so idk, proceed with caution.

Ever Yours, Annabelle by Elisa Braden. Heroine was this a tomboyish type who followed her brother and his best friend around, totally infatuated with the best friend. Then tragedy strikes and they're separated for yeeears. She and the hero meet up again, and he's like "oh. She's DIFFERENT".

I JUST finished Goddess of the Hunt by Tessa Dare, and it's so good. The heroine's parents died when she was young, and she was basically raised by her older brother, who's like, not super responsible and a really hands-off guardian. So she always tagged along with him and his friends and become this hellion known for riding horseback and running around barefoot and being a total tomboy. When her brother's rake friend is about to get engaged, she goes to his other friend and asks for his help in breaking up the relationship, because she's in love with the rake. Supposedly. The friend she asks for help is super exasperated, but begins realizing... Oh damn...... she's like.... super alluring now. It's very hilarious, because she still is super rebellious. She's not very elegant, but she is everything else.

Olivia and the Masked Duke by Grace Callaway may give this to you. The heroine is kind of a childish hoyden type, and the hero is a good bit (11-12 years) older than her and is a widower. When she's like, 18-20 she catches him..... disciplining.... a woman... very consensually. And she becomes determined to have him. Of course, she is all grown up now, so he finds it more difficult that expected to have him.

A Rogue by Any Other Name by Sarah MacLean. The heroine was this kind of wildish girl, who was best friend with the neighbor boy until he disappeared after losing everything while gambling. Years later, he finds her again and she's now this like... spinster, but elegant and very respected. He forces her to marry him for Plot Reasons and they kind of need to reconcile with their feelings. Bonus: this Penelope is plump and stays plump, and Bourne cannot get enough of her. One of those "they have sex and he lays there and has an existential crisis" books.

The Kiss Curse by Erin Sterling has elements of this! The hero and heroine first meet briefly when they're in college, and he's from this locally famous family and is sort of refined, whereas she has purple hair and is kind of a mess. They don't see each other again for about ten years, during which she becomes this very flirty, admired girl in town (if a bit of a wildchild). Not very elegant, but like--he doesn't even remember her as she was lol.

Some of these aren't exact matches, but I do recommend checking them out because they may hit the vibe!

Very much wanted to play out this family dynamic, to play out their fights, and see what can come from it all and see if they can ever get onto a page where they do all get along. Sister, brother in law, and mother are all on site!

Friends in Low Places - Chris Hemsworth/Tom Hardy/Tom Hiddleston/open wanted for a group of rowdy and rambunctious fellas (Chris Evans, Jensen Ackles, and Andrew Garfield) who have never fully grown up from their high school antics days - blue collar salt of the Earth type guys who never turn down a cold one or hanging out with their buddies. Expect lots of fun shenanigan posts, plotting, and group posts!
