Tradition of "Name Day" in Different Countries
by languages.eu
Name Day is a celebration of an individual's given name and has been a tradition in many cultures for centuries. For example, according to the Swedish name day list, today — February 5, it's the name day for Agata/Agda. Tomorrow it's for Dorotea, Doris, and so on.
It consists of celebrating a day of the year that is associated with one's baptismal name, which is normatively that of a biblical character or other saint. Where they are popular, individuals celebrate both their name day and their birthday in a given year. It has become less popular nowadays in certain countries and only grandparents celebrate the name days of their grandchildren.
Name Day tradition is a common practice in France 🇫🇷 even though it isn’t celebrated the same way as in other coloured countries above.
Historically, this was a tradition in all regions of Europe practicing Christianity, including Germany, Ireland, Denmark, and so on.

More than a century has passed since Liliath crept into the empty sarcophagus of Saint Marguerite, fleeing the Fall of Ystara. But she emerges from her magical sleep still beautiful, looking no more than nineteen, and once again renews her single-minded quest to be united with her lover, Palleniel, the archangel of Ystara. A seemingly impossible quest, but Liliath is one of the greatest practitioners of angelic magic to have ever lived, summoning angels and forcing them to do her bidding. Liliath knew that most of the inhabitants of Ystara died from the Ash Blood plague or were transformed into beastlings, and she herself led the survivors who fled into neighboring Sarance. Now she learns that angels shun the Ystaran’s descendants. If they are touched by angelic magic, their blood will turn to ash. They are known as Refusers, and can only live the most lowly lives. But Liliath cares nothing for the descendants of her people, save how they can serve her. It is four young Sarancians who hold her interest: Simeon, a studious doctor-in-training; Henri, a dedicated fortune hunter; Agnez, an adventurous musketeer cadet; and Dorotea, an icon-maker and scholar of angelic magic. They are the key to her quest. The four feel a strange kinship from the moment they meet, but do not know why, or suspect their importance. All become pawns in Liliath’s grand scheme to fulfill her destiny and be united with the love of her life. No matter the cost to everyone else. . .

Canon Powershot SX730 HS Taken on 03/11/2019. Every now and then we need to unwind, get away from the downtown hustle and bustle and spend quality time with mother nature. The valleys in Friuli Venezia Giulia are a real retreat, as I found out when I arrived in Valcanale, which was annexed to Italy with the Treaty of Saint-Germain-en-Leye in 1919. Before then, most of the valley had been part of the Duchy of Carinthia for centuries. That's why you'll come across quite a few Carinthian-style churches along this valley. Camporosso in Valcanale is probably best known as a ski resort, but you can find interesting monuments in the town centre, such as the 12th-century white Carinthian church of Sant'Egidio — one of the oldest in the valley. The church poking out from behind in this photo is Santa Dorotea, which contains fascinating frescoes dating back to the 15th century. You'll be able to see a snapshot of this wonderful artwork if you tap the "Affreschi" highlight in my stories. In addition, Camporosso is an excellent place to go hiking in the summer. In fact, many people go on a mountain excursion to Monte Santo di Lussari that lies 1,790 metres above sea level. That's pretty high! Fortunately there's a cable car that takes you up to the village during the peak season, i.e. November–February and June–August. You can get to Camporosso from Udine by train on the Udine—Tarvisio line. However, only a few services actually stop at Camporosso, so you can instead take a train to Tarvisio and then take a bus with 'SAF' to Camporosso. Buses depart from the bus station in 'Via Vittorio Veneto' and you can check the timetables on www.saf.ud.it. Tickets can be bought on the bus with a small additional fee. ________________________________________ #camporosso #valcanale #ig_udine #italia #italy #treasureitaly #ilikeitaly #friuli #friuliveneziagiulia #fvg #fvglive #fvgphoto #total_italy #ig_italia #ig_friuli_vg #yallersfriuliveneziagiulia #volgofriuliveneziagiulia #volgoitalia #yallersitalia #volgofvg #prettylittleitaly #travelblogger #thehub_italia #italy_hidden_gems #neverstopexploring #travelawesome #lonelyplanet #solotravel #discoveritaly #divine_villages (at Camporosso In Valcanale, Friuli-Venezia Giulia, Italy) https://www.instagram.com/p/B_M3RD3oK8P/?igshid=1jwo2kfbkyhg6
