What is this?

It’s a Sam Wilson fan event.

Is there any pressure?

No pressure at all. Fill one prompt. Fill all the prompts on for the month. Do however many you please.

Can I fill more than one prompt with one piece of art/one fic?

Yes! You can fill one prompt with one piece of art or fic. You can try to fill all 30 prompts at once with one piece of art or fic. If you can fill every single prompt from every single day in one fill, that’d be wild but it’s okay by the rules. You can do any number in between.

Are there any prizes for making anything for this event?

Just the satisfaction that you made something cool.

Should the work I make be Sam Wilson-centric?

Yes. You can make a gen work or a piece with any ship with Sam Wilson in it, but the main focus should be Sam Wilson.

How long will this event run?

It will run from September 1st to September 30th.

I heard there are badges I can use for each fill?

There will be! They will come out daily.

Do I have to post my fic for the prompt on the day of the prompt?

You can if you'd like, but it's okay if you post a piece on a day other than the day of the prompt.

What are the guidelines for the event?

I will be borrowing some of this from the MYSU Valentine’s Day Bingo 2022 Guidelines, since they were fantastic.

For Everyone:

1. Remember to tag @samsseptember in the post as well as #samtember2023.

2. Please also tag the prompt you’re using (for instance, if the square is “Redwing”, use “#redwing” as one of your tags when posting about it on Tumblr).

3. If you’re uploading to AO3, please:

a ) Say somewhere which prompt you’re filling.

b ) Add it to The Samtember Collection (under Samtember2023).

For Artists:

1. Create at least one piece of new art that can’t have been posted anywhere else before this.

2. All visual art forms are welcome:

a ) Gifsets or photosets, at least 3 gifs or photos.

b ) Aesthetic boards or moodboards, at least 4 images each.

c ) Drawing/painting, that is not a sketch.

d) Fan video.

e) Graphics edit.

For Authors:

1. At least 500 words.

Things to be mindful of when creating:

For Sam

Avoid framing Sam only as a caretaker or emotional support for Bucky. Be mindful of Sam acting angry or aggressive in an out-of-character way and falling into the angry/sassy Black man trope (check out the MCU source material to help with character traits).

Avoid decentering Sam as a main character and refrain from focusing entirely on Bucky.

In art: avoid whitewashing Sam’s skin and research drawing Black characters.

General disclaimer: Race affects every aspect of his life, including interacting with police/government and the white structures of the world when it comes to performing his duties as Cap and simply being a Black man that lives in the U.S.

CA:TWS 10th Anniversary Event - Interest check!!

We ( @sparkagrace and I) have been thinking for a while about how to celebrate the upcoming 10th anniversary of CA:TWS’s release, and thought we’d see if people would be up for participating in an event around this anniversary.

Today is exactly 10 years since the LA premiere of CA:TWS! As good a day as any to release all of our prompts so you can plan for the anniversary event.

“Wanna walk?” he asked. “Just down to the lake.”

“Sure.”

“Race you there!” he said, tapping on your shoulder before he ran. You huddled after him, your speed would never match against his but you tried. 

You arrived at the foot of the lake, the blue waters shining like a sheet of mirror against the sun. You caught him by the lakeshore unfazed, you–catching your breath like your life depended on it. “Fuck, you know I’m not built for this,” you said, your words breaking under your breath. 

He laughs playfully, handing you the water bottle. You gulped all the contents of the bottle until your mouth ran dry, sweat drenching your back. You notice him take off his shirt, your eyes wandering to his buff body, sweat glistening all over the expanse of his chest and abs. 

“It is too hot,” you said, fanning yourself with the collar of your shirt. 

“I know. I’ll keep my distance,” he jokingly said. You gave him a side-eye before you saw him untie his shorts.

“What the hell are you doing?”

“Let’s take a dip!” 

He pulls his shorts down to his ankles, his body bare naked for anyone to see. He dips his feet at the edge of the water just around his toes. “Sam, someone might see us!”

He scans his head around to check. “No one’s here, plus the water is cold,” he shakes his body around as if he’s freezing. You tried to look around and see as well and sure enough no one was around. You took the hem of your shirt and pulled it off your body, the heat of the sun stinging your skin. Once you were fully unclothed you joined him in the water.

 He was right. The water was cold, the heat leaving your body as you walked deeper and deeper. The water hugged your chest as you stood in front of Sam, his hands on your waist as you tiptoed on the lakebed to meet his gaze.

Avoid phrasing “flesh/normal/human hand” to refer to the contrast between his prosthetic arm and his right arm. The phrasing is ableist. You can simply refer to his prosthesis when relevant, otherwise use “right/left arm/hand”.

I'm gonna say it, I think Disney's political message in TFATWS is really ironic considering their pro-Israel stance — in particular, the one in which Sam makes a speech calling out the governments purposeful ignorance towards the why behind the terrorism.

This might be a bit of a long one; I finished TFATWS yesterday and the whole show just really had me thinking. There was a lot of political undertones to unpack, but also some blatant hypocrisy from Disney (and their Zionist supporters) that I feel like mentioning.

I mean, come on. Sam's whole speech about how people need to consider why extremeists and/or terrorists feel the need to take the measures they do to change things? Why aren't they taking into consideration all the years of apartheid and occupation Palestinians had to endure to push Hamas to these measures? How are they able to promote sympathy/forgiveness towards the show's "terrorist group" but continue to enable Israel's actual terrorism towards Palestine?

Sam points out that the government's so-called "Peace Keeping troops" are also carrying weapons and forcing millions of people into settlements while the government only condemns the Flag Smashers, and he's right. But does this logic and morality only exist in fiction? Because it feels eerily similar to the praise and pity the IDF gets despite the constant oppression of Palestinians. Carrying weapons? Forcing people into settlements? Gee, wonder where I've seen that before...

"I mean, this girl died trying to stop you, and no one has stopped for one second to ask why. You've got to do better, Senator, you've got to step up because if you wont the next Karli will — and you don't want to see 2.0. People believed in her cause so much that they helped her defy the strongest governments in the world. Why do you think that is?"

Hamas' actions were terrible, but they were not unprompted. How can Disney recognize this in a TV show in such a explorative and impactful way but not apply it to real life? Critical thinking, guys.

Just something to think about. Remember to keep putting pressure on Disney, and free Palestine 🇵🇸.

A/N: Welcome to day 7 of Book Places 12 Days of Christmas Celebration

The elevator just couldn’t go fast enough.

You were rocking back and forth on your heels and drumming your fingers against the side of your leg in anticipation as you bit down on your lip.

What was only less than a minute, had felt like an eternity for you in that elevator.

You had been away on a last mission for about a week by yourself, only your specific skill set needed for it, so you had to leave your team behind and ended up missing Christmas.

It devastated all of you for you not to be able to spend it with together, or even be able to call due to the seriousness of the mission.

Of course, you had reassured them though, that it was alright and to not pause any of the festivities like they wanted until you got back, not wanting to ruin the holiday for them.

When the doors finally did slide open, you practically jumped out, only to be tackled to the floor by a swarm of bodies.

“Y/n!” Your entire team cheered as they greeted you with a large hug and even larger grins.

Your mouth gaped a little bit as you looked around you at all of the decorations that they had put up in your absence, and all of the presents that had been left untouched under the tree.

“What is…” You were at a loss for words as Steve helped you stand up.

“We know you told us not to,” Nat said with a teasing smile.

“But we decided to wait to have Christmas until you got back!” Tony announced proudly, standing with his hands on his hips as if it were his brilliant idea.

Bucky rolled his eyes playfully, “Don’t let him fool you, n/n, it was the twins' ideas.”

Wanda and Peitro each gave you a wink and a wave from off to the side as a way to confirm the man’s words.

Your eyes began tearing up slightly at the sheer kindness of it all, “Guys, you didn’t have to…”

“Of course we did!” Thor called bouncing up and down excitedly like a child.

“We couldn’t have Christmas without you, n/n!” Sam added from the couch.

“Let’s get this party started!” Clint cheered with a grin, coming around to swing an arm over your shoulder.

You laughed and allowed the man to lead you over to the tree where everyone had begun to pass out their gifts to one another, and you got right to work as well.

“I love Christmas!” Thor shouted excitedly as he looked at the wrapped box you had handed him with eyes that held nothing but joy and pure excitement.

You all laughed again at his words and continued to pass out your carefully planned out presents that may or may not have taken all of you at least three months to pick out.

When that was finished and everyone was practically bursting at the seams with gratitude for what they had gotten, Bruce and Tony quickly ushered all of you into the dining room, where a feast fit to feed an entire army sat. But you all knew that it wouldn’t take much for it all to be devoured within seconds by the team.

So the celebration continued as everyone ate, shared stories, and laughed to their heart's content.

“And then…” You trailed off because you couldn’t fit any words in between laughs, “And then he just disappeared!”

All at once, fits of giggles exploded from the room, practically shaking the walls with how loud and booming it was from everyone.

You couldn’t help but look around at your team- your family- with a soft smile, because you never could have asked for better people to be sharing the holidays with.

Once all of your plates had been cleared, Pietro had excitedly jumped up and exclaimed, “Movie time!”

You all chatted happily as you made your way to the movie room/ theater that Tony had installed for moments like this.

You all took your seats, you between Nat and Wanda, as the control screen popped up and Tony began scrolling through movie ideas.

“Elf?” He questioned.

“Yes!” Sam called.

“No!” Bucky responded at the same time.

The two glared at each other as Steve ran a hand down his face with a sigh from in between them.

“Home Alone?”

“Yes!”

“No!”

It happened again and you all rolled your eyes, “How about someone else decides?” Bruce asked tirdley, slumping back into his seat.

“Let’s just watch Christmas Vacation!” You exclaimed from your seat, wanting to put an end to their bickering already.

This time, both the men agreed and everyone was finally able to settle back and enjoy the film.

There was, of course, the occasional, “Get your hand away from me” and “I swear to god, I will feed you to pigeons” from the two of them, but that was to be expected.

All in all, you had just the day you needed after the mission that had taken away your holiday, and you had a team that cared for you very much. So much, that they had planned this entire day for you and made sure it had gone perfect.

Which it did.

Thank you so much for the incredible response to our interest check! We were overwhelmed with over 200 responses and we’re delighted to announce that the CA:TWS 10-year Anniversary Event will be going ahead from March 26th to April 4th 2024. 

Based on the response to our interest check, this will be an open event, meaning we will allow any content related to CA:TWS. We will provide daily (thematic) prompts to help inspire you, the use of which are optional. We will be releasing the prompt lists two weeks beforehand so that participants will be able to prepare creations for posting on the appropriate day. 

Prompts can be interpreted however you wish, though we request that they are focused on CA:TWS (whether canon or canon divergent). Creations permitted will include – but are not limited to – fanfic, gifsets, podfics, fanart, moodboard, playlists, fic rec lists, crafts, etc.  

Full rules and FAQs will be published shortly.
